Bug#319881: subversion: [psvn] cannot type in passphrase for svn+ssh

Not in Emacs 21.4, nor in emacs--multi-tty--0--patch-426.
In pcvs-parse.el, cvs-parse-ignored-messages holds a regexp
with which pcvs skips messages where ssh reports it is starting
ssh-askpass. But pcvs itself never runs x11-ssh-askpass.

I don't decide how Subversion is packaged for Debian.
I only hack psvn.el in the upstream repository.

In my opinion, the best course of action would be to find out why
psvn.el was compiled in your computer, and how likely it is that
other people are suffering from the same problem. If it was
caused by a Debian package, whether subversion or something else,
it would make sense to make the Debian subversion package remove
the file. To get the file removed as soon as the new version of
the package is installed, it should be done in postinst or
perhaps preinst, rather than postrm.

Do you have other /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/*.elc files?
I believe there shouldn't be any; if Emacs Lisp files of other
packages have become compiled there as well, the emacsen-common
package might be a better place for the *.elc removing script.

Bug#336417: haskell-cabal: unlink files before copying over them

2005-10-29 Thread Isaac Jones
Package: haskell-cabal
Severity: normal

From: Frederik Eaton
Subject: cabal installation

It would be nice if cabal would unlink destination files before
installing over them, rather than just calling "copyFile". It appears
that when "copyFile" finds that a destination file already exists,
rather than removing it, it tries to open and truncate it, which leads
cabal to fail with the following error message when a new version of a
running program is installed:

*** Exception: bar: copyFile: resource busy (Text file busy)

The commonly-used 'install' command does not suffer from this bug.

Frederik

Bug#336416: upgrade-reports: 'Conflicts/Pre-Depends' error when upgrading e2fsprogs

2005-10-29 Thread Yitzhak Grossman
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Trying to upgrade e2fsprogs from version 1.35-6 to version 1.38-2 failed with a
'Pre-Depends / Conflicts' error and a suggestion that enabling
APT::Force-LoopBreak might work. According to man apt.conf(5):

 Force-LoopBreak

doing. It per-
mits APT to temporarily remove an essential package to break a
Conflicts/Con-
flicts or Conflicts/Pre-Depend loop between two essential
packages. SUCH A
LOOP SHOULD NEVER EXIST AND IS A GRAVE BUG. This option
will work if the
essential packages are not tar, gzip, libc, dpkg, bash or
anything that those
  packages depend on.

I therefore report this 'GRAVE BUG' :).
I subsequently enabled Force-LoopBreak and the upgrade proceeded smoothly. I
posted to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and another user reported the identical experience
with his e2fsprogs upgrade.

Thanks for pointing this out, I'm guessing its actually a problem
in linux-2.6's packaging (the stuff in debian/) rather than
kernel-packaging. In any case it shouldn't be too hard to resolve
and it should go into -2, soon.

Bug#336412: linux-headers-2.6.14-1-686: missing links on headers' tree render package unusable

2005-10-29 Thread Mau
Package: linux-headers-2.6.14-1-686
Version: 2.6.14-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

many links in the headers' tree are not created by the package; every package
installation gives unpredictable results, sometimes a link was made, sometimes
not.
Furthermore an include/asm link to not existing asm-i386 dir is present
(the package only supplies asm-generic?).

These problems make compilation against these headers impossible, so
this package is now in an unusable state.

Bug#336411: mozilla-firefox: Crashes with segfault after installing certain extensions

2005-10-29 Thread Edward J. Shornock
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.4.99+1.5beta2.dfsg-1
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

After installing some extensions (at least colorzilla and FoxyTunes cause this
problem),
Firefox/Deer Park will segfault when it's restarted, even after creating
a new profile. After restarting Firefox/Deer Park 1-2 times, it will
come up and work fine until another extension is installed. Removing
those two extensions stop the segfaults.

Attached to this report is the results of an strace on the FF/DP process
from just before the segfault.

Note: I have not filed the bug upstream because I do not experience
this problem within Windows with 1.5b2, nor with the binary build from
http://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-1.5b2&os=linux&lang=en-US,
so it seems to be a Debian-specific bug. This segfault is reproducible
on two different computers.

Bug#224077: xsnow licensing

2005-10-29 Thread Randall Donald
A couple of things:

1) I do know an address where the author can be contacted

2) This package is in the middle of being adopted by Cai Qian who I
believe is trying to resolve this issue. (see #329485)

3) From discussions with the author I discovered he has permission to
use toon_root.c under the xsnow license, he just never stated that
anywhere.

4) You should have asked the maintainer where the license status was
before duplicating discussions with upstream.

Regards,
randy

It seems that "run_command" is not defined in the line:

of the file "debian/ruleset/local.mk" in the kernel source tree.

A simple fix is to switch the following two lines in the command section
of target "clean" of the file
"kernel-package-10.002/kernel/ruleset/local.mk".

Ok... this is weird. It compiled fine with gcc 4.0.2-2 in my pbuilder

Bug#336264: Option to turn off IPv6 for innfeed

2005-10-29 Thread Henning Makholm
tags 336264 + patch
thanks

I looked a bit more at my problems with IPv6. It turns out that the
connection eventually gets established, but it takes a looong time.

The peer I'm connecting (news.szn.dk) to has two records and one
A record in DNS. That makes getaddrinfo(3) return a list of nine
separate address blocks:

   2001:1448:89::1/tcp  (SOCK_STREAM)
   2001:1448:89::1/udp  (SOCK_DGRAM)
   2001:1448:89::1/raw  (SOCK_RAW)
   2002:d99d:1ca::1/tcp (SOCK_STREAM)
   2002:d99d:1ca::1/udp (SOCK_DGRAM)
   2002:d99d:1ca::1/raw (SOCK_RAW)
   212.157.1.202/tcp(SOCK_STREAM)
   212.157.1.202/udp(SOCK_DGRAM)
   212.157.1.202/raw(SOCK_RAW)

Because the lookup code in innfeed/host.c does not look at the
socket type component, it only tries the IPv4 entry after all of
the first 6 results have been tried. That takes well above half
an hour on my machine.

I attach a patch 'antiudp.patch' for that makes the code ignore
non-SOCK_STREAM results. This makes the useful address be tried
sooner and somewhat mitigates the problem.

I also attach a patch 'avoid-ipv6.patch' which adds a per-peer
configuration option in innfeed.conf that, if set, will make
innfeed completely ignore IPv6 addresses, unless there are no
IPv4 addresses for the host at all. Setting this option on machines
with no IPv6 connectivity should eliminate the problem entirely.

The two patches overlap and must be applied in succession. The first
one fixes what is arguably a bug in the existing code; the second one
is more a feature addition that one might conceivably want to
implement in a different way instead.

--
Henning Makholm "... not one has been remembered from the time
when the author studied freshman physics. Quite the
contrary: he merely remembers that such and such is true, and to
explain it he invents a demonstration at the moment it is needed."
This patch fixes a problem with the IPv6-mode address resolution
in innfeed. The getaddrinfo(3) function in glibc reports each address
for the hostname thrice: one with each of SOCK_STREAM, SOCK_DGRAM and
SOCK_RAW. The upstream code ignores this difference, and therefore an
address that is unreachable will be tried three times before innfeed
goes on to try another address.

With this patch, hostIpAddr() skips results that oar not of the
SOCK_STREAM type.

This patch must be applied after 'antiudp.patch'.
It fixes Debian bug #336264, by adding an innfeed configuration option
'avoid-ipv6' that suppresses IPv6 connections unless IPV6 addresses is
all we have.

In the interest of being non-intrusive the option is off by default,
but it should be mostly harmless to have it on for all feeds (such
that user configuration would in most cases be necessary for using
IPv6 transport); after all there are no documented guarantees about
the order in which which getaddrinfo(3) returns alternative addresses.

Created by Henning Makholm <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 2005-10-30.
This patch is in the public domain.

Bug#336406: g++-4.0: problem when string function fails to return string

2005-10-29 Thread Ross Johnson
Package: g++-4.0
Version: 4.0.2-2
Severity: normal

In the following 4-line program, Test() fails to return a string
(as promised) and no compiler warning is given. If executed,
this program seg faults. It seems to me that either the compiler
should provide a warning or the string library should not crash.

2005-10-29 Thread LI Daobing
Package: libswt3.1-gtk-java
Severity: normal

eclipse3 depends on libswt3.1-gtk-java
libswt3.1-gtk-java conflicts libswt-gtk-3.1-java
azureus depends on libswt-gtk-3.1-java

so, if I install eclipse3, I can't keep azureus.

How about let libswt3.1-gtk-java provide libswt-gtk-3.1-java, so I can
both of them. Thanks.

I found another crash caused by the gcc incompatibilities. KWrite crashed
when trying to save a php file using Save As. It is remarkably easy to
reproduce:

1) $ touch ~/empty.php
2) start kwrite
3) Bring up the File Open dialog
4) Make sure Automatic Previews are enabled
5) Select empty.php
crash

2005-10-29 Thread Cristian Ionescu-Idbohrn
Package: socklog
Version: 2.0.2-2
Severity: wishlist

Pretty much found a grown-up date site that you can use without paying.

Tons of girls, guys, and couples are there messaging and meeting eachother.

And I'm sure there is someone (or more than one :P) for you.

Although most of them want one-night-quickies, there are also those who like it
serious.

Whatever floats your boat :)

Bug#327414: bash: no completion for invoke-rc.d

2005-10-29 Thread Grégoire Druant
I found out that service command which is not present in debian and make quite
the thame job is handled by bash_completion.

I looked into the script an I've seen that there's a function almost ready to
use : service() .

I changed a few lines and it seem to work, with all /etc/init.d script as
first parameter and with {start|stop|reload|...} in second parameter when
available.

I hope you will use it :-)

Here is the patch :

Bug#336400: emacs-goodies-el: please add xdvi-search.el

2005-10-29 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: emacs-goodies-el
Version: 25.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi there. A second request filed separately from the first one.

As you probably know, Emacs is used quite a lot by people that use LaTeX
and in the usual workflow of generating a LaTeX document, one usually
goes through the compilation of the source and then sees the output
using a variety of modes, the most common of which is seeing a DVI
output file.

Since LaTeX supports source specials and the xdvi in current Debian
versions support forward and backward searching, it would be a very good
addition if the file xdvi-search.el could be added to the package
emacs-goodies-el.

The xdvi-search.el file can be obtained from:

Bug#336399: tdb-dev: should handle read-only errors properly

2005-10-29 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: tdb-dev
Version: 1.0.6-13
Severity: normal

Hi,
I just spend some time searching for a really stupid bug...
I had opened a database O_RDONLY, and then tried to set a key in the DB.
This resulted in a segfault inside libtdb:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

As soon as I used O_RDWR it worked just fine. TDB should handle that

Bug#336391: please remove symlinks in /usr/share/doc

Oups, this was my fault. The symlinks are still installed in current
package versions.
However, these package ship their own /usr/share/doc directories and
content overwriting files of the other packages or being overwritten
theirself. This, in turn, leads to errors in md5 checking of the
packages (which, in turn, did point me to the wrong assumption above :)):

# debsums -s rmail sendmail sendmail-base sendmail-bin sendmail-cf sendmail-doc
sensible-mda
debsums: checksum mismatch sendmail file /usr/share/doc/sendmail/buildinfo.gz
debsums: checksum mismatch sendmail-base file

debsums: checksum mismatch sendmail-cf file
/usr/share/doc/sendmail-cf/buildinfo.gz
debsums: checksum mismatch sendmail-doc file
/usr/share/doc/sendmail-doc/buildinfo.gz
#

Which of the files in which package are overwritten by which others
is more or less random.

So, if you think it is a good idea to continue shipping the symlinks,
please make at least sure you don't ship equally named files with
different contents in different packages then.

Bug#336395: move mindi-kernel to Recommends: instead of Depends:

2005-10-29 Thread Rogrio Brito
Package: mindi
Version: 1.04-7
Severity: wishlist

Please, would it be possible to move mindi-kernel to Recommends instead
of a Dependency?

I see that mindi recommends no packages, but suggests some and,
actually, I would always prefer to use my own kernels to generate my
backups.

I think, BTW, that it would be nice to mention in the documentation that
if you don't have ext2, cdrom and iso9660 compiled into your kernel (not
as modules), you might have problems and *then* you should use
mindi-kernel instead (unless you know what you're doing).

I would like to keep my system minimal and moving this one from a
dependency to recommendation would be a good step towards that goal. I
always want my backups to fit onto exactly one CD.

Oh, BTW, thanks for the fixed version of mindi. It has now propagated to
testing (which is what I use).

Bug#336390: pterm: on 64 bit machines, on startup, doesn't display text until mouse event or focus loss

2005-10-29 Thread pmaydell
Package: pterm
Version: 0.58-1

Symptoms:
I start pterm. It brings up its window, which is cleared to black
with the cursor in the top left corner. After this, nothing happens: the
expected shell prompt isn't printed. Pressing keys has no visible effect.
When I click the mouse on the window or use the window manager to switch
away this causes pterm to suddenly update, printing the shell prompt plus
any characters corresponding to keys I had pressed earlier (and if say
I had pressed 'ls' I also get the ls output now).

Complications:
I only see this on Alpha. I'm using the ratpoison window manager, which
is prone to showing up bugs in applications because it tends to map them
and give them the first Expose event very early.

Interesting things:
If I put a sleep(5) just before the call to gtk_main() at the bottom of
gtkwin.c then the problem goes away: pterm sleeps for five seconds and
then displays the prompt fine.
If I put a call to term_invalidate(inst->term) just before gtk_main()
this also causes the problem to disappear.

---begin true but irrelevant stuff---

I thought that the the problem was that the gtkwin front end quietly
drops any drawing events that occur before we've managed to map the
window, but this doesn't seem to be what's actually happening when
I insert debugging printf()s. Still, maybe the code should be changed?

get_ctx() just returns NULL if inst->area->window is NULL, in which
case the code in terminal.c will do no redrawing (but will clear
its internal flag to say no update is required). This is decidedly
unfortunate because the gtkwin's Expose event handler does a blit
of its internal pixmap onto the window: and the pixmap is blank
because we never drew onto it. (Note the completely bogus comment
in expose_area(), incidentally.)
Probably the correct approach is to have get_ctx return NULL only
if inst->pixmap is NULL. The code in do_text and do_cursor which
copies from inst->pixmap to inst->window will have to be conditional
on inst->window not being NULL. Dropping drawing events before
inst->pixmap is created will be fine because in configure_area()
where we create the pixmap we subsequently do a term_invalidate().

I also notice that we call gdk_draw_pixmap() for what looks like
a whole screen blit after every call to do_text() or do_cursor().
Wouldn't it be better to just do that once in free_ctx()?

---endit---

Actual problem:
The gtkwin.c timer code implicitly assumes sizeof(int)==sizeof(long).
On alpha, long is 64 bit, so timer ticks as returned by GETTICKCOUNT()
are 64 bits (and at time of writing well overflowing into the high
word). However, we pass this through to the timer_trigger() routine
with GINT_TO_POINTER() and then retrieve it with GPOINTER_TO_INT().
Unfortunately on alpha GPOINTER_TO_INT(x) is defined as
((gint) (glong) (x)), which truncates the count to 32 bits.
The upshot is that the next timeout is scheduled for aeons in the
future, and we never actually draw anything.

Disclaimer: works for me on the Alpha, but totally untested on
32 bit machines. Almost certainly won't work on systems where
pointers are 32 bit but long is 64 bit.

I think that we only ever have one outstanding timer (since
timer_id is a single global, not an array), so we could just
keep 'next' in a global, rather than trying to stuff it into
a pointer and pull it back out again; maybe that'd be cleaner?

Or we could force timer ticks to be 32 bit integers on all
platforms...

Bug#336392: linux-image-2.6.14-1-686: 2.6.14 doesn't boot after dist-upgrade from 2.6.12

2005-10-29 Thread Olaf van der Spek
Package: linux-image-2.6.14-1-686
Version: 2.6.14-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

After apt-get dist-upgrade the kernel was upgraded to 2.6.14-1.
I rebooted and the boot failed. Booting the old kernel (2.6.12) still works.
I'm not sure which logs to include, could you tell me what info you need?

Greetings,

Olaf

Bug#336391: please remove symlinks in /usr/share/doc

2005-10-29 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: sendmail
Version: 8.13.5-3

Hello,

it seems that older versions of the sendmail packages (rmail,
sendmail-base, sendmail-cf, sendmail-doc, sensible-mda) installed
symlinks in /usr/share/doc pointing to the sendmail directory.
Newer versions ship their own directories there.
Since dpkg doesn't remove symlinks if they are replaced by directories,
you should handle that on your own and remove these symlinks.

Thanks for your work & regards

Bug#336386: "man: command exited with status 13" weird pipe oriented bug.

2005-10-29 Thread A Costa
Package: man-db
Version: 2.4.3-3
Severity: normal

Piping weirdness. This might even be a 'grep' bug, I dunno.

This works OK:

% man dpkg | grep deinstall
Reformatting dpkg(1), please wait...
   deinstall
The package is selected for deinstallation (i.e. we want
to
of install, hold, deinstall or purge. Blank lines and
comment
removed, it will be marked selected for deinstallation.

...but add an innocuous switch and:

% man dpkg | grep --quiet deinstall
Reformatting dpkg(1), please wait...
man: command exited with status 13: /usr/bin/zsoelim /tmp/zmanuLp4sT |
/usr/bin/tbl | /usr/bin/nroff -mandoc -Tascii | /usr/bin/col -b -p -x |
/usr/bin/pager -s

What I can't understand is why a change to 'grep' should affect 'man'.

Attached is a debug output file, made like so:

% man --debug dpkg 2> /tmp/man.dbg | grep -q deinstall

Hope this helps...

Bug#268362: Not only a problem for DNS-RR

2005-10-29 Thread Christoph Hohmann
Hi,

I noticed the same problem, when the IP address of my NTP server was
changed. The DNS record was updated to the new address, but my NTP
server kept using the old IP until i noticed that my clock drifted and
restarted it. So it is not only problem for DNS-RR but also when DNS
records are changed to reflect IP changes of NTP servers. It would
probably be a good idea to resolve the hostname again when the NTP
server is unreachable.

actually change the deps.

Try edit /usr/lib/yaird/perl/Parser.pm and include "@" in the two lines

Bug#336383: caudium: please remove files created in postinst

2005-10-29 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: caudium
Version: 2:1.4.7-5

Hello,

purging caudium leads to some warnings:
dpkg - warning: while removing caudium, directory `/var/log/caudium' not empty
so not removed.
dpkg - warning: while removing caudium-modules, directory `/usr/lib/caudium'
not empty so not removed.

While not removing /var/log/caudium is probably okay somehow,
/usr/lib/caudium could not be removed because of a caudium-images
symlink created there by postinst, which should be removed, too.

While tracking this down I found that postinst does also create
directories in /usr/local/share, which IMHO you could at least try to
remove...
rmdir /usr/local/share/caudium/modules || true
rmdir /usr/local/share/caudium || true
...should in question point the user to the right locations to look at.

And btw... regarding the question in the postrm script: IMHO you should
at least tell the user that you left a backup of the config-files in
/var/backups although he decided to purge the package (and thus also
decided to remove it's config-files) :)

And regarding the caudium-images symlink in /usr/lib/caudium: in your
prerm script you do:
if [ -d /usr/lib/caudium/caudium-images/auto ]; then
rm -r /usr/lib/caudium/caudium-images/auto
fi
This will remove the package-shipped /usr/share/caudium/caudium-images/auto
when prerm is called. This should usually be okay, however I had at least
one case (after initial install of caudium) where these files were lost.
I just cannot reproduce it until now. So probably extending the
condition to some -a -d /usr/lib/caudium/caudium-images could be a good
idea.

regards

However I would note that packages in extra are not in violation of

tk_octave in particular is public domain. I think the problem is with
conflicts and stability. For instance tk_octave has compilation errors
when linked against the current version of vtk (line 705 of
tk_interp.cc

has an ambiguous function call).

Please do send patches upstream. Nobody is actively maintaining this
package and it is not installed by default so few people compile it.
I'm not surprised that bit rot is setting in.

This bug seems to be due to libgda freetds provider being linked against
an old version of libfreetds. It was fixed on libgda version 1.2.2-1.

Bug#336267: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#336267: octave-forge: Extra packages not installed ?

The extra packages of octave-forge are not installed . I
was in particular looking for tk_octave. I couldn't find
a note in /usr/share/doc/octave-forge explaining why the
package maintainer decided to drop the extra packages.

Kindly include extra packages ( that are "free" ) and
put a note in the debian README file for octave-forge,
listing the packages being dropped for whatever reason.
Hopefully you would agree the only pertinent reasons may
be violation of DFSG or some sought of dependency problem.

I think you are right, but I do not know exactly what to answer. The
octave-forge package is being currently maintained in a collective
project hosted at Alioth (The Debian Octave Group,
http://pkg-octave.alioth.debian.org). I do not know if any of the DOC
members can explain why tk_octave (and other components) is not
included

in the package. Perhaps Dirk can enlighten us on the issue.

I stopped installing tk_octave because at the time it
required that octave itself be compiled with threads
otherwise octave segfaulted with a complaint about X11.
This may not be the case on recent versions of Debian.

tk_octave also has race conditions when accessing
octave matrices. There is no lock around the code
to decrement and test the reference counter, and it
may be that one thread deletes memory after another
thread grabs its pointer.

soctcl is a tcl package which calls octave through a
socket. It isn't installed because I didn't bother
figuring out how to properly install tcl scripts. Both
it and the perl package could be installed by an
ambitious dog.

Any udeb with priority standard will be included in the menu.
If you don't want it included, make sure you change the priority to
optional or extra.

This should really be done ASAP...

Not host or date.def probably means that no X tree build was probably
done.

If the layout of the build under 6.8 is the same as under xfree86 4.3,
then you should find an xmkmfable tree it under
xorg-x11-6.8.2.dfsg.1/build-tree/xc/

Hmm, I wouldn't know how to determine the version number. It was the
last Etch version before the one I have now, i.e. it broke after the update.

I moved this file out of the way. This didn't make a difference.

H. Is the simple fact that I now have a udeb for inital-passwd
automagically adding the item to D-I menu ?

If so, deeply sorry for this and this is somethign I still have to
learn: I imagined that some voluntary action was needed, so I figured
out that uploading inital-passwd-udeb was harmless.

Or does the problem just happen on fjp's built images ?

/me puzzled...and sorry if I broke something.

This is a known error for the AMD64 netinst CD image.
The businesscard image should work OK, but please see [1] for current
issues.

Cheers,
