Well, that means you've cathed this (git commit):
b2ea401bac39e75ebb64038609ed22efbc799905

Maybe it's worth to ask to be in next 2.6.17-stable ?

Bug#388315: eeprom SIGBUS

2006-09-24 Thread Daniel Smolik

Jurij Smakov napsal(a):

Hi,

This crash happens because the buf2 buffer declared on line 656 of eeprom.c ends
up not aligned on a 4-bit boundary. One simple solution is to declare it as

int buf2[1024];

then compiler enforces the alignment and it does not crash anymore.

Eric, if you don't have access to a sparc workstation, perhaps you would be
willing to accept me as a comaintainer?

Best regards,

Jurij Smakov[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Key: http://www.wooyd.org/pgpkey/ KeyID: C99E03CC

Hi,
when I compile eeprom.c with gcc-3.3 works without fix. May be this isn't
problem in eeprom.c but in gcc or gcc usage. What do you mean ?

Regards
Dan

Bug#389265: kernel-patch-relayfs: Obsolete, keep it out of Etch

2006-09-24 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: kernel-patch-relayfs
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This kernel patch has been filed for removal in sid. As processing
of ftp.debian.org removal bugs can take some time I'm filing a
bug to keep it out of Etch before the freeze.

#386811 - RM: kernel-patch-relayfs -- RoQA; RoM; outdated; merged in to
mainline kernel

Bug#385403: aspell-ru: hash file is not created

The error message

postinst log===
? ? aspell-ru (0.99g3-1) ...
aspell-autobuildhash: processing: ru [ru]
??: /usr/lib/aspell//ru_affix.dat:1246: The condition "???" does not

aspell-autobuildhash: processing: ru [ru]
??: /usr/lib/aspell//ru_affix.dat:1246: The condition "???" does not
guarantee that "" can always be stripped.
===

suggests that rule described in line 1246 of ru_affix.dat is wrong, and
cannot always be executed for the given string. Indeed, looking at that
rule, I see something that, expressed in terms of 7bit chars, looks like

SFX L estn as stn

that means, if you find 'stn' strip 'estn' (Buggy!!!) and replace it by
'as'. But if you have something like 'astn' rule is matched, but you cannot
strip 'estn', hence the error.

I have blindly modified that line to something possible and I then find a
different set of errors and warnings,

-
Warning: The word "???" is invalid. The total length is larger than 240
characters. Skipping word.
...
Error: The word "?" is invalid. The total word length, with
soundslike data, is larger than 240 characters.
-

which disappear if I use the .wl file instead of the .cwl for building the
hash (I also removed the offending number from the first line of the
wordlist). I tested this in a aspell personal sarge backport, so I cannot
confirm if this means only that my backport is buggy or if is a general
problem. I hope to try that tomorrow with a current aspell.

Regarding the original problem, the right ru_affix.dat fix is definitely
something for rus-ispell upstream, or at least for somebody fluent with
russian.

I am attaching a patch with the changes I used here to test that the rule
was failing. Do not consider it a real patch, I do not speak russian, just a
dummy test.

Hope this helps

this one on our radar.

If it is, probably only indirectly.

The system was installed as 32 bit system, fresh install of debian etch,
some week ago. (I remember, that beta3 of installer was only one day old).
Runned good, but I have decided to migrate to 64 bit. All drives except xfs
one are reformatted, only xfs has been kept untouched. Even if the xfs was
probably clean unmounted, installer had some problem with mounting xfs into
/target. So I deciced not to mount xfs automatically. After first boot,
while mounting xfs manually the kernel oopsed and was not able to shutdown
correctly, so the next boot was unclean and the ext3 (/) has to be
recovered. I have made the bugreport after second unsecssful boot.

The instalation was made by nightly snapshoot of installer from 24-Sep-2006
02:33. I didn't use beta3, becouse beta 3 is missing xfs libs.

Don't know exactly, as written above.

The problem was solved by using my own kernel, 2.6.18.

gmame is currently down:

"""
Couldn't contact deer:8010
The web interface is down for maintenance.
"""

This machine has 2GB RAM and 1,1TB xfs filesystem, it will be bacula sd
machine. Main problem I see here is, that testing is using in freeze phase
kernel, which oopsed instead of just returning some error message from xfs
layer. It can occur, that my xfs filesystem was broken in some way, but xfs
should say, bye bye to my data and no oops whole kernel.

cheers
dan

I'm not sure there is an active upstream listening to this request but
it would be great if there were more sizes and an inverted version of
these cursors. Similar to what Fedora and SuSE seems to provide.

As these are the default cursors in Debian now, this would be good both
for the vision impaired and those of us who simply prefer our cursors
large :)

(See attached screenshot if isn't clear what I mean)

Bug#389267: CVE-2006-4294: Directory traversal vulnerability in TWiki

2006-09-24 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: twiki
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

A vulnerability has been found in twiki:

Directory traversal vulnerability in viewfile in TWiki 4.0.0 through 4.0.4
allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the
filename parameter.

I could not find information about version 20040902, so this has to be checked.

Bug#295258: Good idea to close it: it's packaged now

2006-09-24 Thread Enrico Zini
Thanks Damog for automatically closing this: the Italian voices for
Festival are now packaged, as:

festlex-ifd - Italian support for Festival
festvox-italp16k - Italian female speaker for Festival
festvox-itapc16k - Italian male speaker for Festival

I'm sorry we forgot to close the ITP bug.

Ciao,

Bug#388315: eeprom SIGBUS

2006-09-24 Thread Daniel Smolik

Jurij Smakov napsal(a):

Hi,

This crash happens because the buf2 buffer declared on line 656 of eeprom.c ends
up not aligned on a 4-bit boundary. One simple solution is to declare it as

int buf2[1024];

then compiler enforces the alignment and it does not crash anymore.

Eric, if you don't have access to a sparc workstation, perhaps you would be
willing to accept me as a comaintainer?

Best regards,

Jurij Smakov[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Key: http://www.wooyd.org/pgpkey/ KeyID: C99E03CC

This fix works for me. Sorry but I don't understand how it works. How Can I
declare char buf2[4096] to be aligned to 4-bit boundary ? Is it gcc bug on sparc
or is possible use some gcc option to do this ?

Regards
Dan

Bug#389170: coreutils: mv -v fails on hardlinked files

2006-09-24 Thread Eric Blake
> And the result would be correct wether x is removed, or y was replaced (I
> see this similar to rm not doing the same thing as unlink to achieve removal
> of a name, but resorting to a variety of syscalls).

This corner case is problematic in POSIX. The fact that GNU even removes
x is counter to a strict reading of POSIX, which requires that mv defer
to rename(2), and that rename is a no-op when the old and new name
refer to the same file (even when it is two different names of a hard
link). But this is so counter-intuitive that GNU has chosen to break with
POSIX on this regards (except perhaps under POSIXLY_CORRECT; I'd
have to re-read the source to be sure). So I'm not sure if Jim should
spend much more effort improving the verbose output; the fact that it
is different already goes to show that hard links are a special case.

Bug#388691: License does not explicitly permit modification and distribution, but....

2006-09-24 Thread Nathanael Nerode
severity 388691 serious
thanks

Yes, this is the *whole* GTRC license statement:
} Copyright ? 1989 by Georgia Tech Research Corporation, Atlanta, GA
} 30332.
} All Rights Reserved. GTRC hereby grants public use of this
} software. Derivative works based on this software must incorporate
} this copyright notice.

Other problematic code appears to have been removed or relicensed: the *only*
problematic license left is the Georgia Tech Research Corporation license.

GTRC has not been willing to change their license: see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=321178

Their license is stupid, because it doesn't explicitly permit modification or
distribution, and we require those permissions: if they aren't granted, they
are prohibited, by law.

However, it says
"Derivative works based on this software must incorporate this copyright
notice."

This seems to be an implicit grant of permission to modify (create derivative
works),
because otherwise this line would be pure, meaningless surplusage.

There also *might* be an implicit grant of permission to distribute modified
works,
but it's very very unclear.

I would not feel comfortable distributing this without getting clarification
from
GTRC. I advise asking the following questions:

(1) Under this license, can I make a modified version of this code?
(2) Under this license, can I redistribute that modified version to other
people?
(3) Under this license, can I sell a CD which includes a copy of that modified
version?

If you get "YES" answers to all three, then you're fine. If not, obviously
you're not.

To save you some time, I sent an email asking exactly those questions to the
contact
address I found. I'll tell you if I get a reply. I certainly hope the answers
are
"yes".

Bug#282075: WNPP bug retitle

2006-09-24 Thread David Moreno Garza
retitle 282075 O: libunicode -- The GNOME Unicode library
noowner 282075
thanks obrigado

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to retitle the ITA you have reported or
are involved with.

Your ITA wnpp bug is being orphaned because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 250 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be managing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be orphaned, for
example if the ITA is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please retitle the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily recover
their bugs ;-).

To retitle it, you simply have to mail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
with a body text like this:

retitle 282075 ITA: libunicode -- The GNOME Unicode library
owner 282075 !
thanks bts

Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would be truly welcomed.
Anyway, if you have any kind of problems when dealing with
the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help
you on this: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

A similar process is being applied to other kind of wnpp bugs.

Thanks for your cooperation,

If this problem appeared very recently I can only agree. No such updates
have been made to vnc in a very long time.

Bug#389232: linux-image-2.6-amd64: mounting xfs filesystem causes kernel oops

More details, please.

What happend before this boot?

Why ext3 is recovering?

And why XFS does ?

In upstream there are very hidden bugs with XFS, which are very hard
to find, because they are rare and are showed on big machines:
huge RAM, many CPUs. Maybe you can help.

Bug#333516: grub2 manpages

2006-09-24 Thread Robert Millan
tags 333516 upstream
tags 333516 wontfix
thanks

Hi!

Diverging from upstream to add manpages in grub2 means more work in maintaining
these manpages (specialy since grub2 is experimental software with rapidly
changing interfaces), and we don't have the resources for that.

Please take this to upstream. If upstream is willing to include (and hence
maintain) a manpage you write, then it's no problem for us.

Bug#389260: icu: please apply patch to avoid unnecessary linkage with libpthread

2006-09-24 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: icu
Version: 3.6-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

The ICU shared libraries are all linked against libpthread, but the only
pthread functions ICU actually uses are:

libicuuc.so: U pthread_mutex_destroy
libicuuc.so: U pthread_mutex_init
libicuuc.so: U pthread_mutex_lock
libicuuc.so: U pthread_mutex_unlock

On a glibc-based system, these functions are all in libc, so the ICU
libraries can safely be built without linking against libpthread.
It is desirable to avoid libpthread, because glibc attempts to ensure
that single-threaded programs are not subject to the overhead of thread
safety, and it detects multi-threadedness by checking whether libpthread
is loaded at runtime. Thus, any single-threaded program that uses ICU
is currently subject to unnecessary overhead.

It's possible to avoid linking ICU against libpthread by a clever trick
which does not involve any modifications to the upstream source, and
this is what I have done in the appended patch. It applies relative
to the top level of the directory you get by unpacking the source deb
(*not* to build-tree/).

Bug#389262: ripit: tray close hack causes IDE errors

2006-09-24 Thread Johannes Stezenbach

Severity: normal

At startup, ripit causes a number of the following errors:

  hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }

Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 1
Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 2
Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 3

After I have ripped a few CDs, the kernel finally says:

cdrom: dropping to single frame dma

and after that CD ripping is extremely slow until reboot.
My CD drive is a TEAC DV-W50D DVD+/-RW.

This is caused by the following code in ripit:

else { # Ugly hack to close the tray.
   system("more $cddev > /dev/null 2> /dev/null");
}

I suggest to either replace "more" with "eject -t", or omit
this command altogether (ripit will then wait for the user
to close the tray manually).

Regards,
Johannes

Bug#389261: apt: Progress strings not translated when using APT::Status-Fd option

2006-09-24 Thread Frans Pop
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.46
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

During new installations using Debian Installer, we are seeing some
strings that are not translated during installation of tasks. This has
long puzzled us, but I think I've finally been able to narrow it down to
apt.

The log below shows the issue (test language was Dutch). As you can see
all strings are translated, except for those in the 'pmstatus' lines.

It would be great if this could be resolved before Etch (or even before
the next Debian Installer release candidate). For the installer this is a
fairly important l10n issue (and one of the very few remaining).

I suspect this to be a bug in apt-pkg/deb/dpkgpm.cc.

TIA,
Frans Pop

Wow, cool!

Well, I didn't suggest anything, to be exact, but I would prefer if mv gave
the same message as when moving other files. The fact that the destination is
a hardlink of the source file should not make any difference, and the fact
that mv removes the first file, while providing more information, is likely
confusing to users. As a heavy shell user, I often depend on the output of
mv, and be able to select both filenames has been very useful.

And the result would be correct wether x is removed, or y was replaced (I
see this similar to rm not doing the same thing as unlink to achieve removal
of a name, but resorting to a variety of syscalls).

It doesn't make much sense to me that hardlinks are such a special case
when I basically want to replace one named file by another.

However, it certainly fixes the bug that mv doesn't display anything,
which is rather scary, so I am content even with that message :)

Thanks a lot for fixing this :)

Severity for FTBFS which never build before is important only. Not an

I am aware of the alignment errors but don't know what to do about
them short of rewriting half the upstream code. Maybe there is some
attribute or something one can use to get gcc to do the right thing?

Anyway. Could you remove the -Werror flag and see if it builds and
more importantly if it works then please? The package has never been
run on !i386/amd64 so anything could happen. Don't use any important
data for it.

I've fixed that. Though it doesn't print what you suggest.

Etch will ship 2.6.17 or 2.6.18, so the patch should be updated
to these kernels or be removed from Etch.

Bug#387173: xvnc4viewer: Terminal password entry broken when 0 to 7 characters in length

2006-09-24 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

Correction is now on the way. When it is shorter than 8 characters
a newline character was included...

It is now corrected and upload is on the way. Compiling now.

In this tiny corner case, GNU mv violates POSIX even when
POSIXLY_CORRECT is set. And I want to keep it that way.
The POSIX requirement is simply too counter-intuitive.

Bug#389258: FTBFS with -O3: assembler symbols redefined

2006-09-24 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: memtest86
Version: 3.2-1.1

When you compile test.c with -O3 it fails because some assembler symbols
are redefined. This is because your sources define them but so does the
compiler at -O3. According to the GCC people this is allowed, see
http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=29204 in which Andrew Pinski
writes "This is not a bug as asms can be duplicated even if they are
volatile. The way to fix this is to use .1 and 1f lables."

Note that this is not a concrete problem in Debian since it's compiled
at -Os but it would be nice if this could be fixed upstream.

Workaround:

add:

chan_capi.so=yes to the [global] section of modules.conf.

Better yet: we need to get rid of the chan_capi modules of bristuff. It
was probably a bad choice of me to add them. Anybody acually uses them?

The bug log is rather confusing...

Well, a first thing would be to configure SquirrelMail to access the
IMAP server directly and not through perdition.

Are you using any SquirrelMail plugins? If so, you might try to disable
them all and see if that helps. Are you perhaps using the vlogin plugin?

You can check the SquirrelMail authentication settings (like SSL/TLS)
and whether you've set the IMAP Server Type correctly.

Are you sure that you're using exactly the same login credentials as
your other IMAP client uses?

If it used to work and now doesn't anymore, something must have changed.
What did you change?

> S, is there a debug setting for Squirrelmail to see exactly what

SquirrelMail is designed to be good at its own function and leave for
other programs what they do best. Hence, the logging of IMAP calls is
left to the IMAP server: you'd best check the log of Cyrus for the exact
commands executed.

> However, it stills needs to be determined what is happening.

As you can see - without access to your system it's mostly guessing for
me.

But this is the way to go, I'm afraid. Or something could be
implemented at the PHP level, I guess. If it's only possible to get a
conforming 304 reply by stripping the trailing newline from the .php
file, PHP really needs to be fixed, IMHO.

Hi Guillem, if I put out `libreadline5' then fails to build, `bc'
suggests `libreadline5' so it's not installed in clean builds
enviromments like with `pbuilder'. So I _need_ to put explicit
 `libreadline5' as Build-Depend.

I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't compliant.

Anyhow, as we're starting to notice, bug 387752 has nothing to do with
cups-pdf per se, since we rely entirely on Ghostscript for producing the
Postscript document and on CUPS for printing it.

My gut feeling is that Ghostscript is beginning to show its age on two
counts: improper UTF handling and default fonts that don't cover a wide
enough segment of the Unicode namespace, resulting in missing glyphs.

I have CC'ed the Ghostscript maintainer here for comment on that assumption.

Twinkle fails to respond to Proxy-Authentication challenges of PRACK

Bug#389254: gksu: xxxx

2006-09-24 Thread Matthijs Melchior
Package: gksu
Version: 1.3.6-1
Severity: important

Subject: "gksu xterm" fails when using ssh X forwarding
Package: gksu
Version: 1.9.4-1
Severity: important

There is a difference in behavoiur of 'gksu xterm' depending on the
type of X display connection. 'gksudo xterm' works fine.

When logged in on the local display, with DISPLAY=:0.0, both 'gksu'
and 'gksudo' work as advertized.

However, when using the Cygwin X-server to display a Gnome desktop
on my Windows machine and connect through ssh to an X session on a
Debian Linux machine, giving DISPLAY=localhost:10.0, then gksu fails
with the following message:
"X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server
shutdown)."
The apparant reason for this is available on the ssh stderr:
"X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication."

The simplest way to demonstrate this on a local console desktop is
to use 'ssh -f -Y localhost xterm" and use both gksu and gksudo in
that xterm.

Please make 'gksu' work independent of the type of X connection.

Bug#389250: udev: does not always rename wireless interface

2006-09-24 Thread Brice Goglin
Package: udev
Version: 0.100-1
Severity: important

Hi,

Since udev has been upgraded from 0.093-1 to 0.100-1 on my Debian
testing, I have problems with my wireless interface (ipw2200 driver).

/etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules contains the following
rule to rename it:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTRS{address}=="00:12:f0:12:05:03",
NAME="wifi"
This rule has been automatically added by the system, I just changed
"eth0" to "wifi".

Since 0.100-1, the rule is very often _not_ applied. The interface
remains named "eth0". Additionnaly, wpasupplicant and network-manager
have strange behaviors when dealing with this interface.

The problem seems to appear with both 2.6.17 and 2.6.18.
But not always. Sometimes it works just fine. I didn't find anything
that seems to cause the problem to occur. For instance, sometimes,
I load ipw2200, the interface becomes "wifi", but if I change nothing
on the system, unload and reload ipw2200, the interface would be
"eth0".

In case it matters, note that I always load ipw2200 manually after
the boot.

I have a similar rule for the wired interface, it seems to always
work fine. The corresponding driver (tg3) is loaded during the boot
(through /etc/modules).

Let me know if I can do anything to help debugging. I didn't find
a log file describing which udev rules are applied.

Thanks,
Brice Goglin

Bug#389251: coreutils: date's -d switch doesn't honour locale

2006-09-24 Thread Paolo Benvenuto
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.97-5
Severity: normal

Issuing the date command with the -d switch, I would expect that date interprets
the -d argument according to locales.

If I have a date as 21 Set 1996 (Set is the abbreviation
for italian settembre = english september), I expect the behaviour

$ env LC_ALL=it_IT.UTF-8 date -d "21 Set 1996"
sab set 21 00:00:00 AST 1996

On the contrary it gives

date: invalid date `21 Set 1996'

apparently there isn't a way to tell date that the -d argument is in italian
locale.

Bug#387748: merge hylafax-client bugs

2006-09-24 Thread Dan Jacobson
G> I think there is easy solution so I had a quick email exchange with
G> upstream authors. They suggested to use textfmt as text converter.

$ w3m -dump http://jidanni.org/index.html | /usr/sbin/textfmt |gv
$ w3m -dump http://jidanni.org/index.html | /usr/sbin/textfmt -D|gv

All I know is the Chinese UTF-8 becomes mangled.

The textfmt man page says "ASCII". So it doesn't support Unicode.

G> Would you mind to test the suggested change described in bug #363464?

I looked at the bug but I don't think you have any way to support
Chinese UTF-8.

I just tried it again and it seems to have been a timing issue. After
pressing the "Next" button the "Screenshot" button is still available for
about a second. If I click on the "Screenshot" button very quickly then
the installer (component) segfault. Before the actual partitioning happens
the "Screenshot" button gets deactivated. So I think we can blame it on
the timing. Most people won't encounter this effect. So if it's a real
effort to fix this I'd suggest to leave it like it is.

Bug#379846: "libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal" isn't anymore (was Re: Bug#379846: Patch for NMU )

2006-09-24 Thread Chaskiel M Grundman
This patch causes libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal to use mit gssapi
libraries, becoming equivalent to libsasl2-gssapi-mit.

if this build-depends change is the only way to make building cyrus-sasl2
work, then it should probably be arranged that libsasl2-gssapi-mit is
built from the cyrus-sasl2 sources, and libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal is
built from a separate source package, as libsasl2-gssapi-mit is now. Of
course, this requires finding someone to maintain said source package.
Alternatively, libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal could be phased out,
replaced with a transition package that depends on libsasl2-gssapi-mit

Bug#324442: WNPP bug retitle

2006-09-24 Thread David Moreno Garza
retitle 324442 O: libunicode -- The GNOME Unicode library
noowner 324442
thanks obrigado

To retitle it, you simply have to mail <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
with a body text like this:

retitle 324442 ITA: libunicode -- The GNOME Unicode library
owner 324442 !

WWWOFFLE doesn't make a persistent connection with anything, client or
server. WWWOFFLE tries to cut the connection as soon as it can.
Perhaps the error is that cups is not breaking the connection even
though WWWOFFLE asked it to (the 'Connection: close' header).

Description: The GNU bc arbitrary precision calculator language
GNU bc is an interactive algebraic language with arbitrary precision which
follows the POSIX 1003.2 draft standard, with several extensions including
multi-character variable names, an `else' statement and full Boolean
expressions. GNU bc does not require the separate GNU dc program.

I don't see anything wrong in the package, it's listed as a Depends, so
please check your local environment, there's something fishy there.

Thanks, fixed by making cg-commit -p imply -e.

Ok, I'm sending as attachment my build-log, I use debuild-pbuilder, I
have removed `libreadline5' from Build-Depends.

Please take a look, and tell if I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks and Cheers!!

Bug#389115: squirrelmail: Cannot login: reports "cross-realm login [EMAIL PROTECTED] denied"

2006-09-24 Thread Jeffrey B. Green
Hi Thijs,

The question is where is the "screw up"? Like I said, IMAP mail
retrievals work just fine. The only other possibility that I can think
of is Perdition, however Perdition is mainly just routing, though it
does do the regular expression matching to identify which server to send to.

S, is there a debug setting for Squirrelmail to see exactly what is
being sent to the IMAP processing? And at the least, if there is a
touchy situation with virtual mailboxes and Squirrelmail, a heads up in
the install process would be good. However, it stills needs to be
determined what is happening.

Your fix reduces an error to a warning, allowing _all_ sorts of bad
characters in user names. I am not sure whether I like that. Actually,
I hate the idea.

I think that we should

(a) investigate whether @ in a user name can cause serious harm, and
if not,
(b) add @ to the list of allowed characters.

I've prepared a new version of libetpan package, that has this patch
applied. It's currently on temporary location at
http://zigzag.lvk.cs.msu.su/~nikita/debian/tmp/libetpan-0.46-3/

Before I upload it to debian archive, could someone please confirm that
this version really closes the issue?

Nikita

It could do 'if I am root, then act as proxy.proxy (like wwwoffled?),
else act as myself' which wouldn't need to be setuid I assume.

Maybe this would eliminate the need for chown -R which is done each
Debian upgrade no matter how big one's cache is.

  All correct.

> * 1 space + bullet + whatever -> standard rendering - no list entry
> * 2 spaces + bullet + whatever -> list entry

Ah. The problem is that aptitude parses indented regions using the
standard grammar, but with N spaces stripped from each line before
applying the grammar. This allows multi-paragraph list entries, like:

  * One list entry
  * Another list entry.
.
Here is some more text describing the list entry.

The result of treating the last line as part of the list entry is that
it will be indented to exactly the same level as the rest of the entry,
and it will be word-wrapped instead of being treated as verbatim text.

Using the standard grammar also allows verbatim text in lists. This
was another reason for always stripping exactly one space after the
bullet; it allows you to write

  *  Homepage: http://some.url.example.com

and have it not get word-wrapped. (previously this would be considered
a normal bullet point with 2 spaces of indentation beyond the bullet)

Removing the ability to write multi-paragraph list entries is not
appealing to me. Now that I look at this from a fresh perspective,
though, there is one other choice. I could consider text following
a bullet that's at the same indentation level and separated only by
blank lines to be part of the bullet, as in:

  * One list entry
  * Another list entry.
 .
Here is some more text describing the list entry.

This syntax is also more compatible with older readers like dselect.

I just searched through
http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/manual/de.i386/apa.html and didn't find it.
Googling for it revealed one thread where this installation procedure was
mentioned as a sidenote. Even if it were in the official docs I doubt a
newbie would find it. The people I know just take the installation CD and
expect a guided installation. My intuition would expect at least a choice
within the "Desktop" task. Be it XFCE, Gnome, KDE or whatever. We are not
Ubuntu - we give the users the choice. I doubt that "Gnome" is the
official Debian desktop manager. I don't mean to offend anyone but I'm not
happy with the current solution. And my personal 2¢: in my own experience
newbies get along much better with KDE than with Gnome.

Kindly
 Christoph

Ah, I see: unix-status-server assumes that one is using a 2.4 kernel (?)

That would be possible to do, but since I don't use cowbuilder, I have
no use for it myself, and thus someone else will have to write the
patch.

I don't wish to do that; using a local mirror, or an HTTP proxy, is a
better option, and keeps piuparts much simpler.

2006-09-24 Thread Jaakko Hyvätti

Hi,

Thanks Jan for collecting feedback on this and debugging things, as well
as thanks for all users for interest in getting it to work.

I guess any variable clockrates very common in laptops and recent
AMD64 cpu's will also not work.

I implemented --nordtsc and --slow options, and put out 1.8.2 version..

http://www.iki.fi/hyvatti/pic/picprog.html

I just tested them once, so .. they may not work well. Simple changes
though.

I hope maybe next summer I'll have more time to use on this :-) As it is,
when it works it is a good enough solution for many, and a starting point
to microcontroller hobby.

Bug#389200: po4a-translate: wrong wrapping, if PO file in the UTF-8(char is 2 and more bytes)

2006-09-24 Thread Yuri Kozlov
Package: po4a
Version: 0.28-1
Severity: normal

Hello.

/usr/bin/po4a-translate -k 0 -f sgml -m ../en/release-notes.en.sgml -p
release-notes.ru.po -l
release-notes.ru.sgml -o ignore-inclusion="dynamicdata shareddata"

If PO file is used an UTF-8(where one character has occuped 2 and more bytes,
Cyrillic
for example), then the lines of the resulting file(release-notes.ru.sgml) is
too
short(less then 60 symbols).
It happens because of wrong calculation of length of a UTF-8 lines.
Attached patch is solved this problem, but only with wrapping.
I have not searched all places where a lenght calculation is may affected too.
