Bug#394280: bootsplash: post-installation script exits with error code 10

2006-10-20 Thread Nick Dickerson
Package: bootsplash
Version: 3.3-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When attempting to install bootsplash I get the following errors.
I have also tried to reinstall bootsplash and botsplash-theme-debian and
someone stated this fixed the issue in a previous version of bootsplash
with a similar bug, but it did not help. Also note this bug seems to be
similar to bug #375372 which is marked as fixed.

Bug#383747: Font appearence should be consistent with upstream

2006-10-20 Thread Daniel Ruoso
I think the patch should be reverted because it's unreasonable to divert
library behaviour from upstream.

I would consider that as critical just because the bug is bad enough for
being released in stable (but that is up to the maintainer).

No, fan control does not work on the installed system and it too

Bug#394290: zim: Autosaving broken after upgrade

2006-10-20 Thread Magnus Therning
Package: zim
Version: 0.16-1
Severity: normal

Since the latest upgrade one of my Wikis have been having problems. I
keep on getting a dialogue everytime Zim tries to autosave the current
page:

 Could not save page
Can't create Zim::Page::Text object without page name!

There are two ways of getting rid of the dialogue, discard changes or
save a copy. Clicking the former results in all changes being saved
and no loss of data. Clicking the latter leaves the original page
unchanged, so no loss of data there either.

This only happens in one of my 4 wikis.

Bug#391342: [RFS]: jsMath:TeX equations in HTML documents

2006-10-20 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
Dear All,

For the sake of reference I am replying to my ITP bugreport.

Please consider next packages for sponsoring or for commenting on.
(I am 1 person away from DAM approval in NM queue... 1,2 months
more and I might become a DD myself ;-) For now I need sponsoring)

Sources:

Binaries available from my repository:
 deb http://itanix.rutgers.edu/rumba/ sid perspect

This is the 1st packaging, thus it would close an ITP.

Packages are lintian/linda clean. Worries might be due to use of
debconf in jsmath to configure web servers. gallery's scripts were used
as a start point. I might in future disable botton in jsMath menu to
look for updates (although it can't hurt so people could buzz me to run
uscan ;-))

Thanks everyone in advance for looking at.

Description : TeX equations in HTML documents
The jsMath package provides a method of including mathematics in HTML
pages that works across multiple browsers under Windows, Macintosh OS
X, Linux and other flavors of Unix. It overcomes a number of the
shortcomings of the traditional method of using images to represent
mathematics: jsMath uses native fonts, so they resize when you change
the size of the text in your browser, they print at the full
resolution of your printer, and you don't have to wait for dozens of
images to be downloaded in order to see the mathematics in a web
  page.
  .
There are also advantages for web-page authors, as there is no
need to preprocess your web pages to generate any images, and the
mathematics is entered in TeX form, so it is easy to create and
  maintain your web pages.

Bug#394288: apt segfaults when Reading packages lists...

2006-10-20 Thread Helge Hafting
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.46.2
Severity: normal

First, apt-get dist-upgrade started failing due to unwriteable /usr, and
I killed it with CTRL+C

Then I remounted /usr, but now apt-get never get further than
Reading package lists... and then it segfaults.
Some actions also manages to print 0% before segfaulting.
The segfault message comes on top of Reading package lists...
making it hard to read.

I installed the newest apt using dpkg, this did not help.
dselect failed too because it uses apt.

I guess the package database has become corrupted somehow,
it'd be helpful if apt at least would point out the
bad file before dying. :-( No more apt for me it seems.

The Chinese (both simplified and traditional) display in the GTK

just as boxes with the unicode number in it. This can be easily seen
in the Choose Language step, as both simplified Chinese and
traditional Chinese entry have one glyph missing.

Japanese and Korean don't seem to be affected. The text-mode installer
 for Chinese is also okay.

Reassigning to the package where we take the glyphs from.

Can you identify which glyphs are missing? A list would be helpful.

Bug#393949: This bug is no longer RC after my NMU

2006-10-20 Thread Frank Küster
severity 393949 normal
retitle 393949 Need mechanism to automatically enable TTF fonts for dvipdfmx et
al.
clone 393949 -1
reassign -1 tex-common
thanks

With the upload of my NMU, latex-hangul-ucs_3.1.1-1.1_i386.changes, the
fiddling around with other packages' conffiles is disabled. However,
I just documented in README.Debian that local admins should do the same
what the maintainer scripts did previously - this is not a satisfying
solution. Somehow we need a mechanism to merge the information into the
map files, maybe just by enabling updmap to treat TTF map lines. The
updmap script is in texlive-base-bin or tetex-bin, but since I don't
know yet how this merging is going to be accomplished, I'm assigning the
clone to tex-common.

Bug#256285: rdesktop and xinerama support

2006-10-20 Thread Philipp Kolmann
Hi,

thanks for the update. But rdesktop still spans over the whole screen.

It may be interesting to have it span accross, so I think it might be useful
to add a new option for xinerama to only span accross one screen.

thanks

valid.

This seems to be some font mapping, because when I copy and paste

  Issuing reset fixes the issue.

I am the new maintainer of ethstatus.

I believe you, but I am concerned to read you talking about
ethtool... Are you sure you file this bug report against the right
 package?

Yes, see explanation above.

If you did right and you really talk about ethstatus, I would be
interested in more information: precisely, the terminal you used and
whether you were under a X terminal or under a console?

Plain good old console. No framebuffer, no X (not even running). I use
mingetty instead of getty, if this matters (cf. #221290 for details).
Please tell me which other information you need. I do not (yet) use
UTF-8, though I probably need to switch after the release of Etch. My
system is Etch (I typically update daily).

Doing exactly what your instruction tells me to do, is proceeding

I utilize your advanced reporting services to find all items which can be

I can take a holiday when ever I have a whim to do so. Hawaii and Brazil

Bug#394300: beta4 incompatible to most plugins

2006-10-20 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: gaim
Version: 1:2.0.0+beta4-1
Severity: important

Hi,

beta4 needs changes in the static plugin description of the various
plugins, see
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=30747628forum_id=33079

This makes this upload incompatible to all plugins. I have uploaded a
fixed version of gaim-thinklight right now :-), but what about the rest?

Options are:
 * Re-Upload beta4 with a new epoch, to not satisfy the versioned
   dependencies of the plugins. Ugly.
 * Re-Upload beta4 with versioned conflicts against all non-compatible
plugins. A lot of work and ugly.
 * File bugs against all plugins, make this bug depend on these bugs to
track the progress and tell any conmplaining users that what
they are using is called “unstable” for a reason
 * Do nothing. Then we just need to make sure that all plugins are
   upgraded before we release etch.

Greetings,
Joachim

The man page mentions a -P, but all of

 $ pilot-xfer  -p /dev/pilot -P
 $ pilot-xfer  -p /dev/pilot --Purge
 just give
ERROR: Must specify one of -bursimfdlC.
Thank you for using pilot-link.

Exact. The manpage is badly written. It looks like --Purge cannot be
used alone.

You must do pilot-xfer --list --Purge --port /dev/pilot or change
--list by another command from -bursimfdlC

Also I see -p is mandatory, just having PILOTRATE and PILOTPORT in the
environment is not enough. Maybe we don't have to carry them around in
the environment all day and some defaults can be used, or read ~/.*rc.

PILOTPORT and PILOTRATE are no more used.

Also how can one get a long listing with -l, with more than just the
names? I recall there used to be a way to get dates and sizes or something.

I don't think I ever saw dates and sizes or something.

Bug#394295: FTBFS: Build-Depends: automake does not exist

2006-10-20 Thread Goswin Brederlow
Package: littler
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

Hi,

littler has a Build-Depends: automake which has been replaced by
automake1.4 for a long time now. The buildds still do some magic
fixing this issue ('Note, selecting automake1.4 instead of automake'
in the buildd log) but 'apt-get build-dep littler' or a manual
'apt-get install automake' will fail with:

Package automake is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  automake1.4
E: Package automake has no installation candidate

Please update.

MfG
Goswin

Bug#394251: gui-apt-key: Please add a desktop file

Hi!

* Martin Schulze [EMAIL PROTECTED] [061020 16:24]:

PS: Forgot a small nice to have in the
gui-apt-key-desktop-icon.patch: If you like the icon, you should add an
32 bit xpm version of it too, and add it to the menu file. Sorry, I can

Please provide the icon to include. I thought you knew me a little

Okay, here it is, as well as an other patch depending on the other two,
adding the xpm :)

Bug#394293: discover: Should support architecture specific kernel module loading

2006-10-20 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: discover
Version: 2.0.3-3

There should be support in discover and discover-data for specifying
kernel modules specific to some architectures. This is supported in
discover1 and discover1-data using the pci-arch.lst files, and
similar support should be implemented in discover v2 as well.

The discover-data bug #394032 list one such case, where PCI device
1011:0019 should use tulip instead of de4x5 on ia64 and hppa.

When monitoring php generated web pages no report sent if php module not

think websec don't retrieve this file because of Last-Modified http

Bug#394301: make-live: Problems with multiple initrd images

2006-10-20 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: live-package
Version: 0.99.10-1
Severity: important

When somehow there are multiple initrd images generated, in particular when
update-initramfs decided that a backup should be made, the command to move the
image into the isolinux directory fails. The command is in
/usr/share/make-live/scripts/21image.sh, lines 224, 228, 237 and 240 (for
several situations). The lines all look like this one:

mv ${LIVE_CHROOT}/boot/initrd.img-* ${LIVE_ROOT}/binary/isolinux/initrd.gz

The problem is that when there is more than one file which matches the
pattern, mv gets more than two arguments and wants the last one to be a
directory. Obviously it isn't, so it breaks with a not a directory error.

I've seen this happen when updating the initrd from my hook script (creating a
backup). The obvious workaround is to remove the backup. The reason I've set
the severity to important is that it also happened when trying to build an
etch image (flavour minimal). In that case I didn't do any related things in
the hook script. Making an unstable image instead solved the problem.

Thanks,
Bas

Bug#394308: casper: Wait for usb device to be detected

2006-10-20 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: casper
Version: 1.71+debian-1
Tags: patch, important

When booting from a usb device, some time is needed before the device is
actually visible for the system. Casper seems to solve this by trying to
detect the device 20 times. However, if there is no slow part in the
detection (which happens if there is no other device to mount, for example),
those 20 detections are done real fast, and all finished before the device
shows up. The attached patch adds a sleep 2 in the loop, so it takes at
least 40 seconds. That should be enough for everyone. ;-)

At least in my case, where I was booting off a usb hard drive, it didn't work
without the patch, but worked fine with it.

The patch also fixes a bug which led to non-wrapped systems being unable to
boot (that is, the test would always fail). [ A || B ] is interpreted by bash
as two commands, the second of which will only be executed if the first fails.
In this case, it always will, because the [ does not have a matching ]. To do
OR in test, -o should be used. I don't think anyone would encounter this
though, due to the rareness of non-wrapped live systems.

Thanks,
Bas

2006-10-20 Thread Alexander Schmehl
Hi!

* Martin Schulze [EMAIL PROTECTED] [061020 15:06]:

I needed a couple of seconds (and an dpkg -L gui-apt-key) to find out,
that the binary is called gak, and not gui-apt-key as the package is
called. Adding that to the package descritption should IMHO be enough
(a symlink would be perfect ;)
 Are symlinks allowed at all?

Yes, they are (but not always absolute or relative symlinks are allowed;
but that isn't important in that case; see Policy 10.5 Symbolic links
for details).

Yours sincerely,

Bug#327110: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the mailgraph package

2006-10-20 Thread Tobias Toedter
Dear maintainer of mailgraph and Debian translators,

On 13 Oct 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the mailgraph Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS (bug #327110).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer did not respond in a week so I will proceed with the
NMU.

The package is currently translated to: cs fr pt sv

The following translations are incomplete: cs sv
(even after applying pending l10n bugs, of course)

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get a
copy of this announcement BCC'ed to you. Please review the translation.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for
this package. Once completed, please send them directly to me so I can
incorporate them into the package being built.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is 27 Oct 2006.
If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

You can download the pot, and any po, files from:

  http://people.debian.org/~lwall/i18n/pots/mailgraph

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

13 Oct 2006 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
 20 Oct 2006 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
27 Oct 2006 : deadline for receiving translation updates
29 Oct 2006 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
31 Oct 2006 : NMU uploaded to incoming
 01 Nov 2006 : NMU enters unstable

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Regards,
Tobias

No, this is wrong. DO NOT run udevtrigger for no good reason.
If you need to trigger a specific event then tickle $DEVPATH/uevent,
e.g:

echo add /sys/block/md0/uevent

But still, I can't see why this should help: if /sys/block/md0/ exists
then the MD array has already been activated, so its uevent should have
been generated too.
Manually creating /dev/md0 will not activate the device and no uevent
will be generated, so running udevtrigger cannot help.

Bug#177523: reopen

2006-10-20 Thread Dan Jacobson
J This should really be a bug against individual packages; it doesn't make
sense
J to include it in policy (its obviously not ideal to include trailing
J whitespace), or devref (people writing syslog code won't think to look there,
J and it clutters the Debian practices content), or aging in the BTS. Dan,
J what are the relevant packages? Have you cloned this bug against them yet?

All I know is almost any package where the author doesn't have e.g.,
show-trailing-whitespace turned on all day in emacs will have trailing
whitespace. Check with grep -c ' $', or better, pcregrep -c '\s$' on
all the non-binary files in the package. So I was hoping there was a
central place to mention it.

Here I pick some place on Debian at random, and sure enough:
$ cd /usr/share/doc
$ find mencoder/ -type f|xargs zgrep -c \ $
mencoder/copyright:0
mencoder/examples/codecs.conf.gz:10
mencoder/README.Debian.gz:24
mencoder/changelog.gz:0
mencoder/changelog.Debian.gz:2

Probably 99% of other packages are similar.

Bug#393642: Patch for FTBFS with ghc6 6.6

2006-10-20 Thread Arjan Oosting
tag 393642 patch
usertag 393642 supplied-patch
Hi,

I have prepared a little patch to fix the FTBFS with ghc6 6.6.
The patch is attached.

Greetings Arjan

 haskell-src-exts (0.2-5.1) unstable; urgency=low

   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * Fix FTBFS with ghc6 6.6 (Closes: #393642)
 - src/haskell-src-exts/Language/Haskell/Hsx/Lexer.hs: hide isSymbol
   when compiling with GHC 6.6.
 - src/haskell-src-exts/haskell-src-exts.cabal: add CPP extension which
is needed for the change above.
 - /src/haskell-src-exts/Language/Haskell/Hsx/{Transform.hs,Pretty.hs}:
modify some strings to keep cpp remove an invalid UTF sequence which
   upsets GHC 6.6
 - debian/rules: call ghc-pkg with --force-files when the
haskell-src-exts library is registered during as some directories
   are missing.

Bug#394192: Security: integer overflow in pixmap handling (CVE-2006-4811)

2006-10-20 Thread Fathi Boudra
Trolltech today announced the release of Qt 3.3.7, 4.1.5 and 4.2.1 - patch
releases that incorporate a fix for a security issue identified in the Qt 3.x
and Qt 4.x series. While no exploits for this security issue are currently
known, it is recommended that Qt users upgrade to these latest versions.

A security flaw was recently discovered in the way Qt 3.x and 4.x handles
pixmap images. This issue can occur only when transforming specially
prepared images from untrusted sources. Qt 3.3.7, as well as Qt 4.1.5 and
4.2.1 correct this flaw.

Bug#394311: libgl1-mesa-dri: i965_dri.so miscompiled with current gcc

2006-10-20 Thread ryan
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri
Version: 6.5.1-0.2
Severity: normal

The current build contains a faulty i965_dri.so causing all GL clients
to crash and lock up the display. This is apparently caused by a
miscompilation with gcc-4.1. Rebuilding with gcc-3.4 fixes the problem.
