Bug#366660: gzip unlinks input before closing output, results in data loss

2006-11-25 Thread Paul Eggert
This bug has now been fixed upstream, here:

ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/gzip/gzip-1.3.6.tar.gz

The upstream version should have all the fixes in Debian's 1.3.5-15
package. However, upstream doesn't have functionality improvements
like --rsyncable; just bug fixes for now.

Bug#400429: mozilla-livehttpheaders: typo "Is is" in package description

2006-11-25 Thread Filipus Klutiero
Package: mozilla-livehttpheaders
Version: 0.13.1-2
Severity: minor

The last sentence of the package description starts by "Is is", which
should read "It is".

Note that the first sentence "This extension allows the user to see HTTP
headers exchanged during an HTTP request." could refer to HTTP
connections rather than HTTP requests, since livehttpheaders also allows
to see headers from an HTTP response.

Sorry for failing to mention this in my previous report, and thanks for
the quick fix.

Sorry for the annoyance, Angus, but I have a litte understanding
problem here (mostly because of my limited English skills). Does the
above mean that you're OK with the NMU or that you prefer me not to do
it.

Sorry for double checking but I want to be sure we avoid any
misunderstanding...:-)

My current understanding is that you welcome the NMU, mostly because
you would have given more explanations if you reject it.

OK, now that I have this working, I can verify that with 0.7, after
enabling the mailing, the messages appear to come from
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (obscuring actual domain).

Is it the case that there is no option to set the sender anymore
(short of editing the command that sends the mail)?

Should fail2ban include some kind of dependency on a package that
provides the mail command (I have mailx, which is priority important,
and provides mail-reader)?

P.S. mail-whois.conf includes

# Destinataire of the mail
#
dest = root

I think the desired English is "Destination" not "Destinataire".

2006-11-25 Thread rf83
Package: k3b
Version: 0.12.17-5

k3b is unable to burn mixed mode CD (audio+data). I've configured "data on

Bug#400416: fail2ban: Better Documentation

Cyril,

One point in this reply of particular relevance to you is a possible
feature request, marked with a *** below. I'm hoping it's only a
documentation issue.

Thanks for your work on fail2ban.

I thought /etc/fail2ban/ was read by the server, but the site you
mentioned further down in your response says it is read only by the
client. So I guess the client can do all configuration. For
automatic persistence, you need to edit the conf files, I assume.
When I thought these files were done by the server, I thought the
server might respond to client commands by writing stuff into /etc/.

One "detail" that is important is what types of file names are read in
the split config. Many programs that use such a scheme ignore certain
file names (e.g., they read "foo" but not "foo~").

If fail2ban reads all files, it would be nice if it didn't! If it
doesn't skip editor backup files, for example, the result will likely
be obscure bugs.

I meant "how does it interact" in a different sense, although the
sense used in your reply is important too. I meant it more in the
sense "if you're using fail2ban, is it also safe to use x (e.g., some
firewall frontend) at the same time? In particular, is it safe to be
making modifications through that other channel? As a limiting case,
I expect that if a user manually clears iptables then fail2ban's
settings will be lost, and it might encounter errors when it can't
find chains. My speculation may be inaccurate; the point is that
definitive guidance on these topics would be helpful.

Another housekeeping issue is the level of reloading that is required
if you change the configuration files. Some of this may be
debian-specific, because of the init.d scripts.

Tom,

I looked in /var/lib/dpkg/info/solfege.prerm and found the line:

 update-python-modules -c -b /usr/share/solfege /usr/share/solfege

This is the line causing the error, I think. In 3.6.3 this line reads

 update-python-modules -c -b solfege.dirs

Running the following command as root fixed the problem for me.

#sed -i 's!/usr/share/solfege /usr/share/solfege!solfege.dirs!'
/var/lib/dpkg/info/solfege.prerm

Ron

Package: libx11-6
Version: 2:1.0.3-3
Followup-For: Bug #278984

I can reproduce this bug both with this Debian package and with a
current git checkout from X.org. It's an upstream bug: at most 65,533
colors may be queried in a single QueryColors request without using
BIG-REQUESTS, but XQueryColors doesn't check its argument.
(Theoretically the limit could actually be lower: Xlib needs to adapt
based on the maximum request length provided by the server.)

I've filed a bug upstream.

Forgot to mention that between install of fileutils and successful
running of firefox, I also did:

dpkg --purge firefox; dpkg --purge iceweasel
 apt-get --reinstall install firefox iceweasel

Which presumably reran the preinst and postinst scripts

Bug#400423: iceweasel vs. chrome vs. fileutils dependency

2006-11-25 Thread Peter Jordan
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

I installed a new system using debootstrap sid.
I installed firefox aka. iceweasel.

I tried to run it. firefox or iceweasel simply exited with code 1.

I ran strace -f on my new machine and the old one. Filing the report on
the old one. Saw weirdness with chrome and greprefs not being found in
strace of new deboostrapped box.

I compared dpkg --get-selections on both boxes...

.. and guessed.

apt-get install fileutils
firefox

AND NOW IT WORKS!

So it seems someone missed a dependency in an install script somewhere.
Why am I always the one to find these kinds of bugs.

Well, then I think I still don't understand what's the problem, if
exim_tidydb is not daemonizing, then s-s-d will just exec it, and
you'll get its exit code if it terminates.

zulo:~# start-stop-daemon --start --exec /bin/true --chuid bin:bin;echo $?

Tejun Heo has written a patch that should fix the problem reported here;
he writes:

* -d ata : patch not merged yet but once the patch is applied, this
should work for all libata drivers. Provided that the patch is applied,
I recommend this method because it has been stable longer than sat

* -d sat : there have been several recent sat bug fixes but sata_sil on
both 2.6.18 and the current devel tree work fine.

Since this is in flux it's too early to document.

sbuild never looks past the first branch of an or'ed build-dependency. This
is a known, long-standing behavior, and is fairly desirable in this case
anyway because we don't want a package uploaded to unstable that's built
against an obsolete libsdl-ttf1.2-dev package.

At minimum, please reverse the order of these or'ed build-dependencies; at
best, please drop libsdl-ttf1.2-dev from the list, since it's obsolete.

Thanks,

Bug#399571: mozilla-mplayer: plugin does not handle media types in mozilla (and firefox)

2006-11-25 Thread José Alburquerque

Alvaro Martinez Echevarria wrote:

The bug specifies that firefox does not work either.
Should that be confirmed before closing the bug?

Please accept my deepest apologies for missing a small parenthetical
remark in the subject of the message that wasn't mentioned anywhere in
the body of the actual report.

Sorry if I came off too harsh: but I still maintain that many
people may choose to use mozilla for a while, for whatever
reasons. I don't think support should be dropped yet.

On that note, what exactly happens when you try to use the plugin in
Firefox? Is it the same behavior as in Mozilla? Is the plugin listed if
you type "about:plugins" in the URL bar? What happens after you upgrade
to iceweasel?

I wouldn't know, as I didn't try it with firefox like the
original bug reporter. Maybe José Alburquerque can explain?
In any case, as of today, once iceweasel is installed,
things mostly work, with the exception of the divx plugins that
seem to have slipped through the cracks (unlike the other
plugins, the mplayerplug-in-dvx.* files are not linked from the
iceweasel directory on 3.31-5).
Regards,

I really only use mozilla for browsing, but on 11/14 when I updated to
version 3.31-3 of the mozilla-mplayer package, I noticed that the
plug-in was no longer available for mozilla so I tested it in with the
version of iceweasel (the latest) I was running at the time and it also
failed to work.

I later upgraded to version 3.31-4 and I noticed that it was still not
available for mozilla so I filed the bug and assumed that it was
persistent problem which also included iceweasel (I called it firefox in
the bug report).

When the maintainer so abruptly closed the bug, I really did not want to
argue so I decided that I would just "downgrade" to version 3.21-1 (in
testing) which did not present problems for me in mozilla. I figured
that once iceape/seamonkey was included in debian these problems would
be addressed and I would simply upgrade to iceape/seamonkey with no
problems whatsoever.

Before downgrading, I tested version 3.31-4 with iceweasel and noticed
that this version worked just fine with iceweasel so I decided to
simply ignore the closed bug report because I felt like mozilla was
being "marginalized". It didn't really make that much of a difference
to me because as I said, I downgraded to a version that worked just fine
with mozilla and think that when iceape is available for debian the
plug-in should work fine then.

In truth, I thought of asking if the plug-in would work with iceape in
the future, but I sort of figured that it would and really did not want
to make a big deal about the reasons that the developer gave for
removing support for mozilla.

My opinion is that if mozilla is available for other branches such as
unstable (sid), which I'm running, I don't think that mozilla support
should disappear. I don't understand if there is some licensing issue
(as I'm still new to the licensing problems that debian faces), so my
opinion is probably worthless, but I think that as long as mozilla is
available for unstable, support for mozilla should *not* be removed.

If however, this desire cannot be met, I would hope that the plug-in
will work with iceape (when available) in the future. In the meantime,
I'll stick with version 3.21-1 until all this is resolved.

Sorry if I sound a bit irate, it's just that it's frustrating when
support for something that's still available in the branch that I'm
using disappears because of some issue (licensing maybe?) that I simply
don't understand. I will however continue to make the best of the
situation as I really do like the way the debian paradigm is designed.
This is simply a minor "drawback" for me. Thanks.

Hi Robert,

It's good to see you're still here! I'd like the functionality of the
programs, but in their current shape they consistently crash and leave
your machine vulnerable. Anyway, the decision is yours.

Bug#400422: netselect-apt doesn't use user's "infile"

2006-11-25 Thread Jeff Peters

Package: netselect-apt
Version: 0.3.ds1-8

Greetings:

netselect-apt uses the mirror_full file as input even if the --infile
parameter

is used in the command line.

to reproduce error
0. switch to su
1. cd /etc/apt
2. netselect-apt -osources.test -nsf sid
3. mv mirrors_full mirrors_test
4. netselect-apt -i mirrors_test -o sources.test -nsf sid
if mirrors_full had been in the directory mirrors_full would be
used
even though the output claims to use mirrors_test. But since we
have renamed
mirrors_full the program claims to use mirrors_test (and doesn't
download a new copy )
but gives an error ( though not the right one ) when it doesn't
have a list of Sites

this appears to be a mistake in the netselect-apt script.

Bug#400421: mount doesn't warn of absence of fsck.vfat (found in dosfstools) when mounting vfat filesystems

2006-11-25 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: mount
Version: 2.12r-15
Severity: normal

mount has built-in support for mounting certain filesystems, but does
not complain about the absence of a filesystem-specific fsck program
when mounting these filesystems, nor does the mount package suggest or
recommend the packages providing the fsck program for the filesystem
types with built-in support in mount.

I do -- its complicated because the initscript takes care of various
corner cases, but I've worked something out with vagrant on IRC and have
committed a fix to SVN.

Given that this happens when changing the CPU, and that this does not
happen anywhere else, I'd say it's a hw or kernel problem. Also given
the mails[0] in debian-sparc about past state of HyperSparc support I
would say this is not related to dpkg, and the bug would need closing
or to be reassigned. But I've CCed debian-sparc for comments.

Sorry, I cannot reproduce it. Today I've installed etch using RC1
netinst image, ran apt-get update; apt-get upgrade (udev and klibc
stuff got upgraded, among other things), and rebooted. The system
booted without problems, and I'm able to run the klibc-provided
utilities (true, fstype, sleep, cat were the ones I tried) without any
problem. If you have any ideas about what causes it for you, please
let me know. In the meantime, I'll tag the bug unreproducible.

Thanks,

Yes, there isn't really anything special except deleting /pagefile.sys
which is __highly__ unusual.

Quite probably this means that the pagefile.sys format has changed and
Vista stores information there for faster boots. It boots like Linux
softsuspend.

Could you please also test that whether Vista boots if you remove
/pagefile.sys after ntfsresize? You can use ntfs-3g for this, it's in
Debian unstable. Usage: http://www.ntfs-3g.org/index.html#usage
Or use a LiveCD which has both. The above page lists several of them.

Thanks,
Szaka

Bug#398699: mutt: Debian custom my_hdr setting in /etc/Muttrc contradicts manual

2006-11-25 Thread Michael Wardle
Yes, I had to set use_from=yes in my ~/.muttrc. This directly
contradicts the documentation, which says:
1) The value of the "from" setting is used unless "use_from" is disabled
2) "use_from" is enabled by default

It should be removed from /etc/Muttrc, because this change is not a good
idea for many users, is incorrectly documented, and is not the same as
the official version of Mutt. Why should it be retained?

At the very least, the documentation should be fixed, but even then,
there must be consideration given as to why the upstream defaults were
changed.

Hi Christian,

I was not the translator, but I'm updating the translation. The
most important thing is that I converted it from ISO-8859 to UTF8. And,
of course, attached (and gzipped) you will find the Brazilian Portuguese

An upload has already been made today. I felt it important to go
ahead in that this release includes a fix for a RC bug. That said,
I'll be happy to put together another update in 7 days if new
translations come in. Please just forward to me any that you

Bug#400416: fail2ban: Better Documentation

2006-11-25 Thread Ross Boylan
Package: fail2ban
Version: 0.7.4-3
Severity: wishlist

I'm tempted to give this higher severity. It's very hard to figure
out how to use this package, or at least to customize it, with current
documentation. Even after reading the provided docs (both man and
/usr/share/doc) and visiting the web site, I'm pretty baffled. And
I've been using earlier versions of the program!

One can make informed guesses, but it shouldn't be necessary to guess.

More overall orientation is needed. The docs do provide the overall
purpose of the program, but the next level of detail down is missing.

What are the parts of the system (client, server, entries in iptables,
apparently--some of this becomes apparent on the man pages)? Some of
the documentation seems to imply local customization can be done
entirely from the client. Is that true? Is that preferred?

What are the basic concepts of the system? What's a jail? What is
the difference between the configuration subdirectories (some help on
http://fail2ban.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/MANUAL_0_8)?

What is the syntax of the configuration file? There is clearly some
template system at work--what is it? It also looks as if there are
some global options that may be overriddent for the monitoring of a
particular application.

What are the keywords and what do they mean?

How does fail2ban interact with other systems (e.g. firewall front
ends) or administrators who might mess around with the iptables? For
example, are such combinations a no-no? Do they risk blowing away
fail2ban's settings?

How do the overrides work? I first had the impression that to
override foo.conf you copied it to foo.conf.local and then modified
it--foo.conf would not be read at all. However, comments in
jail.conf,
--
# Default action to take: ban & send an e-mail with whois report
# to the destemail. Copy/paste+uncomment next 2 lines into jail.local
# to activate
#action = iptables[name=%(__name__)s, port=%(port)s]

2) that file supplements foo.conf;
3) apparently foo.local overrides variable definitions without needing
to comment out the original.

The advice in that comment is also wrong. I followed it and got
ConfigParser.MissingSectionHeaderError: File contains no section headers.
file: /etc/fail2ban/jail.local, line: 1
'action = iptables[name=%(__name__)s, port=%(port)s]\n'

when I tried to restart. Adding a [DEFAULT] header got it going,
though I'm a little unsure whether I should have copied the other
entries over as well.

The comments in the configuration files are cryptic:

# Option: fwstart
# Notes.: command executed once at the start of Fail2Ban.
# Values: CMD
#
actionstart = touch
-
Huh? What's fwstart? And again, what's the syntax.

The man page, among other places, uses syntax like . Is that a
number? A string?

The Debian package suggests python-gamin, and the web site mentions
gamin as well. Neither provide much indication of how it's used. I
guess from the Debian packaging it's not required, and I guess from
the gamin site that fail2ban can monitor more efficiently if the
package is present.

The web site is a mixed blessing. For example,
http://fail2ban.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/FAQ_english#Configuration
says "There is only one configuration file, where Fail2ban can be
whole configurated, this file is located at: /etc/fail2ban.conf". Not
true any more (or is that just a Debian thing?).

As a specific example, I doubt I would have found where to customize
the email notification without your specific guidance (from a
different bug).

BTW, TODO.Debian includes moving to a split config; it's probably time
to remove that item :)

Bug#400333: wormux - FTBFS: Build-depends on unavailable package libsdl-ttf1.2-dev

as you can see here, there's another package that could be used to build
the wormux package, which is (according to rmadison), also available on
s390.

libsdl-ttf1.2-dev is indeed obsolete but the other package should be
fine. I don't really know why apt-get doesn't get it, but I guess that
the first package could be dropped from the `or' statement, since it's
only available for stable & oldstable.

Bug#400408: Modules in different udebs depending on the same module == problem

2006-11-25 Thread Jurij Smakov
Package: kernel-wedge
Version: 2.29
Severity: normal

Hi,

I've recently encountered a situation in which both SCSI module and a
NIC module depend on firmware_class.ko (on sparc). Since they go into
different udebs, kernel-wedge complains about duplicate modules in
udebs. Looks like we need something like common-modules udeb for
situation like this. Or is there some existing workaround?

Best regards,

I agree with the hwclock maintainer, there is no point in having two

Bug#400405: gretl: Desktop menu entry

Hi Jakson,

Thanks for taking the time to report a bug, and making these suggestions!

Ok, so you just install the pixmap, and didn't have to change the desktop file?
I could surely do that too. In fact, it looks like it already gets installed
as /usr/share/gretl/gretl-logo.xpm.

| Another problem is that gretl is "Lost & Found" in KDE menu. Looking

It looks like the .desktop file is written by upstream, so I'll CC Allin on
this.

I also like better menus so this may well help -- so thanks!

| KDE recognizes the category "Science" (I have Stellarium installed

Sorry if I came off too harsh: but I still maintain that many
people may choose to use mozilla for a while, for whatever
reasons. I don't think support should be dropped yet.

Bug#400410: #includes in example files are not Debianised

2006-11-25 Thread Jordi Gutierrez Hermoso

Package:libnoise-dev
Version: 0.9.0+1.0.0-RC1-1
Severity: Low

In the /usr/share/doc/libnoise-dev/examples and
/usr/share/doc/libnoise-dev/noiseutils, it is necessary to change the
#include statements to point to Debian include directories.

Instead of

#include

put

#inclue

It would be good if the HTML documentation was also changed to reflect
the Debian directory structure. Also, the documentation should go in a
separate Debian package, as it's large enough to warrant optional
separate installation.

Bug#400409: powerbutton event should be handled by gnome

2006-11-25 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Subject: powerbutton event should be handled by gnome
Package: acpi
Version: 0.09-1
Severity: normal

Powerbutton events should be handled by gnome, if gnome-power-manager
is running. It pops up a nice dialog that asks if the users want to
suspend, hibernate, shutdown, etc.

Currently, /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh checks for presence of powersaved and
kde, but not for gnome.

Bug#400406: libvtk5: fails to correctly read multiblock (Fortran unformatted) PLOT3D solution files

2006-11-25 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: libvtk5
Version: 5.0.2-4
Severity: normal

Hi!

A bugreport submitted to upstream (bugid=4041)[1] addresses the main
issue that I detected and fixed in bug #397186 (see [2]).
The purpose of the first patch ('plot3d.patch') that was submitted to
upstream in bugid=4041 is indeed to fix the reading of two-dimensional
PLOT3D solution files.

In bugid=4041, there's a second patch ('plot3d_2.patch') that also
fixes a second issue, namely the failure to correctly read multiblock
(Fortran unformatted) PLOT3D solution files.

[1] http://vtk.org/Bug/bug.php?op=show&bugid=4041
[2] http://bugs.debian.org/397186

I verified the presence of this second problem, and I can confirm
that the problem is present in version 5.0.2-4 of the Debian package.
The test case I prepared is based on a little PLOT3D grid ('tiny.xyz')
and solution ('tiny.q'), generated by a simple Fortran program
('gen_tinyplot3d.f') on a little-endian machine.
The PLOT3D grid is composed of 5 blocks, each one of which consists
of a single cubic cell. The PLOT3D solution has uniform values
(Q1=0.9, Q2=1.17, Q3=1.08, Q4=0.99, Q5=7.703).
In the test I attempt to read the PLOT3D file pair with a Python script
('list_plot3d.py') that writes to stdout every read value.
You should find these four files in the attached gzipped tar archive.

With vtk version 5.0.2-4, I get the following output:

$ ./list_plot3d.py
ErrorCode:0
NumberOfOutputs: 5

Bug#400405: gretl: Desktop menu entry

2006-11-25 Thread Jakson Aquino
Package: gretl
Version: 1.6.0-1
Severity: minor

Hello!

Gretl shows no icon in the menu. The source package has a 43x48 icon
(pixmaps/gretl.xpm). I put it at /usr/share/pixmaps and the icon
appeared in KDE menu (the solution worked even though the
gretl.desktop says that the icon is a png file).

Another problem is that gretl is "Lost & Found" in KDE menu. Looking
at freedesktop.org, it seems that the category "Scientific" in the
file /usr/share/applications/gretl.desktop should be changed to
"Science", which is an already registered category:

  http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html

KDE recognizes the category "Science" (I have Stellarium installed
here and it appears in the "Science & Math" sub-menu).

Thank you very much for your time!

Jakson Aquino

Hi,
it would be nice if you checked whether a bug has already been reported
before you reported it again (this one had already been reported twice).
This bug will be fixed in the next upload.

Bug#400109: lucene: FTBFS: random, different build failures

2006-11-25 Thread Jeff Breidenbach

While trying to autobuild lucene, I ran into several different failures.
Over 16 builds, it failed 3 times and timeouted once.

And succeeded 12 times? Sounds good enough to me. Let's leave
this alone until etch is released, then can look into switching to a Sun
JDK build (once the Sun JDK gets into main under the GPL)

Given that the announcement has been sent to debian-i18n, it is quit
elikely that new translations come in. Would you mind waiting for the
announced delay, during which I'll gather incoming translations, put
them together, send you the whole patch and then I can sponsor the
upload..:-)

That would just mean not uploading today bu in 7 days

Bug#317018: postfix and virtual develery with mysql

Hi,

Another possible solution is to bind mount the mysql directory if
postfix-mysql is installed. Here's a quick hack that does just that.
You'd probably want a better way of checking whether postfix-mysql is in
use, and perhaps some sanity checking to make sure bind mounts are
actually supported under the host OS.

Could you please switch to VT2 after booting the installer (using alt-F2)
and give us the output of 'lspci -nn'?
We'll need at least the full lines for your harddisk controller and any
network cards.

You may also be able to use the "save logs' option from the main menu of
the installer to get this info (use the button until you see
the menu).

Cheers,

2006-11-25 Thread Jason Harrison
Package: ca-certificates
Version: 20061027
Followup-For: Bug #387089

Greetings,

I have tested the patch for c_rehash submitted in this bug report. The patch
seems to work. Here is what I did.

I patched c_rehash in the openssl source with the patch provided in the bug
report. I then rebuilt the openssl package. Then I installed
ca-certificates_20040809_all.deb, libssl0.9.7_0.9.7e-3sarge4_i386.deb, and
openssl_0.9.7e-3sarge4_i386.deb.

I then created a CA certificate for linuxbs.org which I placed in
/usr/share/ca-certificates/linuxbs.org/Linux_Bahamas_Public_CA.crt. I then did

'bash# dpkg-reconfigure ca-certificates'

and found 'linux bahamas ca' in the list. I enabled it and found the symlink
was created in /etc/ssl/certs/. When disabled by reconfiguring ca-certificates
the symlink was removed.

However I went over the bug report again and found that according to the bug
report the certificate being affected was placed directly in /etc/ssl/certs/.

To emulate this I moved
/usr/share/ca-certificates/linuxbs.org/Linux_Bahamas_Public_CA.crt to
/etc/ssl/certs/linuxbs.crt. Then I did

'bash# rm -rf /usr/share/ca-certificates/linuxbs.org/'

I then did

'bash# openssl x509 -hash -fingerprint -noout -in linuxbs.crt'

to find the hash value for the certificate.

This returned 'e19be4d3'. So I created the symlink

'bash# ln -s /etc/ssl/certs/linuxbs.crt e19be4d3.0'

Then I proceeded to upgrade to the pacakges in etch
ca-certificates_20061027_all.deb, libssl0.9.8_0.9.8c-3_i386.deb, and
openssl_0.9.8c-3_i386.deb. The upgrade removed the symlink
/etc/ssl/certs/e19be4d3.0. I then upgraded to the packages I built with the
patch for c_rehash. These packages were libssl0.9.8_0.9.8c-3.1_i386.deb and
openssl_0.9.8c-3.1_i386.deb. With the new packages in place I upgraded
ca-certificates again and the symlink /etc/ssl/certs/e19be4d3.0 was preseved.
Also update-ca-certificates being run did not remove the symlink
/etc/ssl/certs/19be4d3.0. Previously when update-ca-certificates was run
without the patched openssl/c_rehash the symlink was removed.

This leads me to conclude the following.

1) If the custom certificates are placed in /usr/share/ca-certificates the
symlinking in /etc/ssl/certs should be created through upgrades. Not entirely
sure if this is fool proof but thats how it seemed to work for me.

2) The patch provided in the bug report will fix the problem of the symlinks
being removed for custom certificates NOT placed in /usr/share/ca-certificates.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Jason Harrison

Well, here is the problem. For some reason I took out the leading /
in /blam, so it won't work for people that don't already have it
installed.

Here, have a patch. I'm building a package with the fix to upload to
Debian, but my connection is very slow today, so it may have to wait
until tomorrow.

Bug#333724: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the libapache-sessionx-perl package

2006-11-25 Thread Angus Lees

On 11/20/06, Christian Perrier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:> Dear maintainer

On 13 nov 2006 I sent a notice to the maintainer of the
libapache-sessionx-perl Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS (bug #333724).

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer
upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

By all means, NMU away. Thanks for your assistance.

Bug#400395: postfix: Please include MySQL defaults file patch

2006-11-25 Thread Micah Anderson
Package: postfix
Version: 2.3.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Postfix's mysql support is good, but it is lacking some key elements,
namely SSL support, default-character-set (yay japanese) and
connection timeout settings. These are all supported in the mysql
libraries that postfix-mysql is built with, but there is no support
for setting these configuration values.

Fortunately there is a real simple way to add this support by adding
the ability for postfix to make a call to mysql_options() which will
read the /etc/mysql/my.cnf file and use the values specified there.
Its an amazingly simple solution which adds some incredibly useful
enhancements to the postfix mysql support. The patch is very simple.

The referenced patch[1] adds this functionality, as well as the ability
to specify a different config file than /etc/mysql/my.cnf. For
example, in main.cf you might have:

smtpd_client_restrictions = mysql: /etc/postfix/client_access.mysql

in client_access.mysql:

default_group = postfix
hosts = host
query = SELECT dest FROM aliases WHERE source = '%s'

The "default_group" in that file allows us to specify options for
postfix in my.cnf.

/etc/mysql/my.cnf:

[postfix]
default-character-set = ujis
connect-timeout = 15
user  = username
password  = password_for_username
database  = dbname
ssl-ca= /etc/certs/roots/cacert-root.pem
ssl-cert = /etc/certs/cert.pem
ssl-key = /etc/certs/key.pem

You'll note that you can specify the user, password here (instead
of in the postfix map file), you can set a connect-timeout, a default
character set, and by specifying the SSL certs and keys the mysql
connections will be encrypted.

Thats some good simple magic.

This patch comes from [EMAIL PROTECTED] (I unfortunately do not have this
person's name).

Micah

How does this break? The system crypt() function also supports md5 hashes,

and there are no guarantee that rebuilding the package create the exact
same package.

Does the file /usr/share/python-support/solfege.dirs exist?
If not, does it help if you create the file by running

# echo "/usr/share/solfege" > /usr/share/python-support/solfege.dirs

as root.

I am not sure what is causing this bug, but I think it is my fault doing
stupid things with python-support while trying to learn the new python

For ntpd to really work properly you need a static IP address.

Well... I'd say "stable" rather than "static". If the local IP
address changes once a week, an NTP client will have little trouble
weathering the change. Once an hour would be problematical. Once a
day is in the grey area. Depending on the details, it may be
desirable to restart the ntpd daemon when the IP address changes.

For an NTP *server* to be effective as a server, a very stable IP
address is, of course, mandatory. But most Debian users don't run
NTP servers, and those who do know what they're doing and what is
required to do it right.

Just about all of the programs in netdiag have been abandoned upstream.

You are welcome to submit patches or offer to take over maintenance of one of
the programs. Personally I'm tempted to ask ftp-master to remove it from
Debian.

FWIW, I disagree with this bug's severity.

Bug#400386: debmirror: File exists

2006-11-25 Thread Baurzhan Ismagulov
Package: debmirror
Version: 20060907.1
Severity: normal

Hello Goswin,

Sometimes debmirror complains like this:

mkdir failed: File exists at /usr/bin/debmirror line 1563.

It doesn't print the same message after restarting.

Thanks in advance,
Baurzhan.
