Bug#432648: eclipse: FTBFS [powerpc]: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ljawt

2007-07-10 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: eclipse
Version: 3.2.2-1
Severity: grave

Hi!

The 3.2.2-1 version of eclipse doesn't build on powerpc anymore it
seems. See [1]. As it did build on that architecture and a package of
it is in testing this is a regression.

Please fix it, or get the powerpc package dropped by the ftp masters
(the former is far more the way to go, though). Maybe it is just a
missing Build-Depends, I'm not sure.

 So long,
Rhonda

Bug#432645: hmm

2007-07-10 Thread Jim Paris
On closer inspection, the upstream 0.9.6 package seems a broken: it
doesn't include features listed in CHANGES (like usb capture) and the
VERSION file still says 0.9.5. Hopefully 0.9.7 will fix these.

Does gtk-window-decorator run without errors? Is the decorator plugin
loaded?

Is that with Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"?

It could also indicate a broken framebuffer device. John, which one are

Bug#432647: beagle-search: always exits with Segmentation Fault

2007-07-10 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Package: beagle
Version: 0.2.17-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
When I close beagle-search it always dies with Segmentation Fault.
While I use it, the program seems to be working well, it just faults
when it quits. This is not a problem for me, but I think it would be
better if beagle-search exited normally.

That looks like a case of this.

Dan, can you please show exim log entries of the rejection you claim?

Yes, certainly. I don't have much time these days for this and I'm
maybe missing some skilled background to discuss the issue with

Bug#432646: zoneminder depends on apache2-mpm-prefork

2007-07-10 Thread Craig Sanders
Package: zoneminder
Version: 1.22.3-6

even if zoneminder really does require a non-threaded apache (and is that
certain, seeing as it depends on "php5 | php4"???), apache2-mpm-itk ALSO
providers a pre-forking, non-threaded MPM.

so, zoneminder should depend on at least "apache2-mpm-prefork |
apache2-mpm-itk", if not just plain apache2.

Bug#432645: please update to 0.9.6

2007-07-10 Thread Jim Paris
Package: libpcap0.8
Version: 0.9.5-1
Severity: wishlist

Please update libpcap0.8 to 0.9.6, released April 25 2007. It adds
some useful new features like support for the Linux usbmon interface.

The .diff for 0.9.5 still applies cleanly to 0.9.6 and the resulting
package seems to be fine.

Hi,

about a year after we implemented some measures to avoid the entropy
issue, the bug has not been reported again in a long time. This leads
me to the conclusion that the issue does not occur any more.

Can you guys please confirm this? I'd like to close these bugs by the
end of October 2007 if the issue does not occur for you.

"Bad destination system" does not look like an exim error message.

Bug#356492: RFS: Spout, a tiny but wonderful black and white game (ITP with Bug#356492)

2007-07-10 Thread Javier Candeira
Damyan, Thanks so much for answering, and thanks especially for agreeing to
work with me on the package.

Here are my answers to your requests. I have taken some time in replying to
your email because I wanted to finish everything first.

Fixed.

Upstream is very loose on licensing. His 1.1 release had no license
whatsoever, and I had to ask him to put a license in the code. He finally
put the MIT license in license.txt in the file and changed version to 1.1a.

I could hound him to put the header in every source file, I suppose, but I
have the email exchange proving that he really meant to license the game
this way. I hope this is enough.

Done.

Tried to, but I can't make it work. For some reason, spout gets installed
with user:group root:root instead of root:games. Is that something I am
doing wrong?

Thanks again!

err, that means your package is uninstallable in sid, as tetex is gone,

Package: libgpgme11

Currently, the i386 package is the only one linked with libpth20.

Whether the package is linked with libpth20 depends on the build
environment, and this shouldn't happen.

Please ensure that libgpgme11 is either always or never linked
with libpth20.

Bug#432636: 'grep --color -x -v pattern' ignores -x when coloring

2007-07-10 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: grep
Version: 2.5.1.ds2-6
Severity: normal

'grep --color -x -v pattern' displays only the lines that do not exactly match
pattern; thus, some of the displayed lines may match pattern, just not
exactly. On these lines, grep highlights the pattern, ignoring -x. For
example:
printf "foo\nfoosball\n" | grep --color -x -v foo

will display "foosball" with the "foo" highlighted. I think the simplest fix
for this would just turn off --color when given -v; by definition, when using
-v, no displayed line should ever match, so no displayed line should ever have
highlighting.

Bug#432633: esmtp: overwrites /etc/mailname on first install

2007-07-10 Thread Fabian Pietsch
Package: esmtp
Version: 0.5.1-4.1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3

On first install of esmtp -- even when not installing esmtp-run, which
lets esmtp be the system MTA -- the postinst overwrites /etc/mailname,
even when answering the (default) "no" to "Automatically overwrite
configuration files?".

This is highly unfortunate when mailname was already set and in use by
other programs (e.g., the real MTA in case of nullmailer), and violates
the spirit, if not the wording, of Policy 10.7.3, "local changes [of
configuration files] must be preserved during a package upgrade".
Policy continues:

| The other way to do it is via the maintainer scripts. These scripts
| [...] must not overwrite or otherwise mangle the user's configuration
| without asking[.]

Extract from the postinst:

  db_get esmtp/overwriteconfig
  OverwriteConfig="$RET"

  if test -s /etc/esmtprc -a "$OverwriteConfig" = "false"
  then
  exit 0
  fi

  db_get esmtp/hostname
  HostName="$RET"

  if test ! -s /etc/mailname -o "`cat /etc/mailname`" != "$HostName"
  then
  echo "$HostName" > /etc/mailname
  fi

So if automatic overwriting is disabled *and* no non-empty esmtprc existed,
the postinst will exit without further configuration file tampering.
This would be okay for creating an esmtprc alone, but also overwrites
/etc/mailname (if it doesn't match the answer to "SMTP server hostname").

IMO, even if updating /etc/mailname would have been in order, *at least*
a single backup of each automatically overwritten configuration file
should be preserved.

Furthermore, putting the "SMTP server hostname" into /etc/mailname seems
to be a bad idea at all, cf. a value of "smtp.example.org" in a setup
that would likely need a mailname of "example.org".

Hi there,

it seems to me that the issue with never-closed file descriptors also
affects Ubuntu Feisty AND they got many confirmations for this bug (also
from me).

Bug#432631: hotwire: Builtin ls and cd always show one item per line

2007-07-10 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: hotwire
Version: 0.556-1
Severity: normal

The builtin ls and cd always show one item with details per line, like ls -l
(but with less detail than ls -l). That makes even small listings exceed the
size of the screen. Please consider switching to a default listing format
similar to the style of a short ls, with many items per row, keeping each row
about the height of a line of text. This would allow even large directories
to fit on the screen.

OK, now that I've been awake longer, I can see that I got this
backwards -- aptitude thinks for some reason that this dependency is
broken even though it apparently isn't! That's more worrying; anyway,
hopefully I can figure out what's happening with a little more data.

Bug#432629: amarok: Clicks playing MP3 stream

2007-07-10 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.6-1
Severity: normal

When I play a certain MP3 stream, I get very noticeable "clicks" in the sound
output. They seem to be at their worst when the music is at its loudest
parts. The stream is at http://www.live365.com/play/zebby ; unfortunately, I
think you might have to register for an account with Live365 to try it.

XMMS plays the same stream with no problems. One thing that might have
bearing on it is that the stream is using some enhancement they
call "MP3Pro", but as I said XMMS has no problems with it.

Hey, Troy! I'd sorta forgotten you were on this team :).

Peter Samuelson wrote:

Yes. Works fine -- I've no proxies configured on the subnet, so I
expected that to be the case. Everything is NAT'd, but if that was
the problem, I'd expect to see that on all the boxes on the same subnet
-- but I don't.

Or, if it's a transparent proxy, telnet won't necessarily reveal the
problem. What will show the problem is to try https, which transparent
proxies have to leave alone (or server certs wouldn't be valid):

  $ svn ls http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn
  $ svn ls https://svn.collab.net/repos/svn

If the second one works and the first does not, you've found your
problem.

Neither works:

svn: PROPFIND of '/repos/svn': could not connect to server

Very strange indeedtomorrow I'll try bringing all of
the installed packages up-to-date. just in case. It's
only been since Saturday, but there's 76 updated packages
in the queue already.

It's definitely regarding with the output from libxml* ;-)

I already make changes in the 'tests' and the package build fine.

The new revision is available on the SVN, so if someone could have a
look and if posible upload the package.

BTW, the same bug was reported a couple of weeks ago at CPAN[0]

Bug#418516: kqemu-modules-2.6-686: look at #412698

2007-07-10 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Package: kqemu-modules-2.6-686
Followup-For: Bug #418516

Hello,

The solution to this bug is found in #412698

The kqemu-common package adds the file /etc/modprobe.d/kqemu
which contains the line:

options kqemu major=0

It is thus enough to add the module with
modprobe kqemu major=0
in order to create the /dev/kqemu device.

Regards,

Kapil.

Your mirror is not completely up to date :

- http://mirrors.uol.com.br/pub/debian/dists/unstable/ lists also

Please check your logs. Something may prevent the update to be

Bug#432625: Feature suggestion: Put message to root window and exit

2007-07-10 Thread Juhapekka Tolvanen

Package: sm
Version: 0.6-1
Severity: wishlist

I suggest you add this option to your software: Put message to root
window and exit. When that option is used, edit field and exit-button
must not be seen, of course. That option could be used for example for
using fortune-messages as wallpaper. It would be quite killer application
when used with my software called tausta.ksh.sh :

Nah, I was using dpkg in the sense of "source package". dpkg-dev has no
maintainer scripts currently. dpkg itself has very extensive ones,
though.

Bug#430024: Gnome should not depend on totem-mozilla

2007-07-10 Thread Nima

Hello,

Becore Recommends are currently not enforcer properly. We will change
the dependency when APT enforces recommends properly.

How are recommends not enforced properly? They are installed if the
user chooses to install recommends, and not installed if the user
doesn't want them.

I don't think totem-mozilla is high-quality enough to be included with
gnome. It's unstable, unpolished, and slow, and I would strongly
prefer to just watch videos with an external player. Having gnome
depend on it also prevents people from choosing mozilla-mplayer, but I
don't think it needs to depend on either of them.

Thanks,
Nima Khazaei

Bug#432623: less: Mistakes some files for RAR files.

2007-07-10 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: less
Version: 394-4
Severity: normal

Hi Anibal, how is it going ?

I just found this annoying bug in less: just touch a file foo.r52 (or
any other number), and try to less it. You will see the following message:

UNRAR 3.51 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2005 Alexander Roshal

  toto.r11 is not RAR archive

It is annoying because files with that extension are typically created
when a svn update commande fails because of conflicts.

I hope that it can be fixed in Etch as well as Lenny...

Have a nice day,

Bug#424634: Incorrect usage

2007-07-10 Thread Andrew Ferguson
Martin --

You are not using rdiff-backup properly. The correct scheme is something
like `rdiff-backup /path/to/files/to/backup
[EMAIL PROTECTED]::/srv/backups/seamus/rdiff-backup/`

as in `rdiff-backup source target`. You were only providing a target,
greatly confusing rdiff-backup. You also should not need the force
parameter.

Bug#358818: status?

2007-07-10 Thread Peter Palfrader
Hey,

what's the status of this bug? I had to compile the ubuntu package for
my etch system to work. It's a shame that this fix didn't make it into
etch, but if you uploaded a fix soon then at least we could do
backports, and maybe even bribe one of the SRMS...

On the one hand this is a upgrade issue for some ancient version of
dpkg-dev. On the other hand the current maintainer scripts handle
upgrade issues for even more ancient versions. So I'm a bit reluctant
to close this outright.

One thing I neglected to mention when I wrote in about this bug is that I do NOT
have a "dual head setup" as the original reporter, and the title of this bug
say. I am experiencing this on my laptop, only using the built-in LCD.

I do occasionally plug the laptop into S-video out to display on a TV or

Or, if it's a transparent proxy, telnet won't necessarily reveal the
problem. What will show the problem is to try https, which transparent
proxies have to leave alone (or server certs wouldn't be valid):

  $ svn ls http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn
  $ svn ls https://svn.collab.net/repos/svn

If the second one works and the first does not, you've found your
problem.

Bug#398613: overlooked bug: tiff2pdf -p results in empty page

2007-07-10 Thread Jay Berkenbilt

Martin --

I accidentally overlooked bug 398613 that you reported against
libtiff-tools back in November, 2006, and I had fallen out of the
habit of regularly checking all my packages as my life got much
busier. In any case, I'm catching up on all the bugs I'd overlooked.
Unfortunately, in this bug report, you included a link to a tiff file,
but that link is no longer valid. I tried to reproduce the bug with a
few of my own tiff files and was not able to do so. Do you have any
more information about the problem or can you recreate the tiff file?

tiff2pdf is a very buggy piece of software. There have been lots of
bugs reported on it. To recreate the bug, I just tried creating an
image that was larger than the paper size and then using the command
you specified, but in that case, I got a valid PDF file.

Anyway, if you can shed any more light on the problem or update the
link to the tiff file, I'll follow through with upstream and actually
take care of this bug properly. Thanks!

As Raphaël pointed out, dpkg-dev probably contained a real directory
eons ago (I'm sure I must have done at least one full re-install since
bo, but I couldn't say when was the last one), and dpkg doesn't cope
well with that. Removing and installing worked out fine, obviously.

Bug#432613: xkb-data: virtual keys missing from evdev keycodes, breaks modifiers

2007-07-10 Thread Yann Vernier
Subject: xkb-data: virtual keys missing from evdev keycodes, breaks modifiers
Package: xkb-data
Version: 0.9-4
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Upon switching from kbd to evdev driver, and thus from xorg to evdev
keycode mappings, my window manager bindings stopped working. I
eventually traced this down to a weird part of the keycode files.
In keycodes/xfree86, there are mappings for seven keys including
to codes that never occur. I added similar lines to evdev:
// Fake keycodes for virtual keys
 =   241;
 =   242;
  =   243;
 =   244;
 =   245;
 =   246;
And now my bindings do work. In linux/input.h keycode 240 is called
unknown and the range 241-255 are not defined.

xmodmap output with this change:
xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Alt_L (0xf3), Meta_L (0xf4)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0xf5), Hyper_L (0xf6)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x6c), Mode_switch (0xf1),
ISO_Level3_Shift (0xf2)

xmodmap output witout it:
xmodmap: up to 2 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x6c)

The left logo key is mapped to Super_L and mod4, but without the fake
keys that fails somehow.

I didn't notice it before, but there is a FAQ that seems relevant:
. You
don't use mod4, but you have two Alt_L keys listed for mod1. I have the
same misconfiguration, though as I said I don't often see the problem.
You should be able to fix this by running:

xmodmap -e 'keycode 0x7D ='

If you use gnome-settings-daemon, you can add the "keycode 0x7D =" to
~/.xmodmap-$(hostname) and it will be applied in every X session;
otherwise you can probably work out how to include it in X session
startup. Please let me know whether this works for you.

Ben.

|
| Ah, you've got "libfortran1" not "libgfortran1" in multcomp's dependencies.

Uh-oh. Fixed and rebuilding.

| I think the solution here for R packages is:
|
| Build-Depends: should not mention fortran at all; r-base-dev should
| pull in a fortran compiler and runtime anyway, and any r-cran-* that
| need a libgfortran should already depend on those.

Yes.

| Depends: for packages including binary libraries (architecture: any;
| has a src directory) need ${shlibs:Depends}

That is the better fix, and *I* think has come up before, I simply haven't
rebuilt enough packages yet which is how we got here with the old mvtnorm.

| Depends: for packages that are R code only (architecture: all; all
| code is in the R directory) don't.

Correct.

| So: multcomp should go back to not requiring fortran anywhere; mvtnorm

Once mvtnorm is rebuilt. Yes. maybe I should do it this way.

| should build-depend on r-base-dev and depends: ${shlibs:Depends}; and
| all will be fixed once mvtnorm (and any other binary R packages that
| didn't have shlibs:Depends before) is rebuilt everywhere.

Yes, I'll fix mvtnorm, have multcomp depend on that new version and we should
be all set. Likewise for pscl at your end. Ok?

Will I see you in Amex next month?

Bug#429060: seahorse: Reproduces on every login

2007-07-10 Thread Mark Brown
Package: seahorse
Version: 1.0.1-5
Followup-For: Bug #429060

I appear to be seeing this bug reproduced on every login. During the
login seahorse-agent will generally prompt me for the passphrase for my
SSH key and then segfault with what appears to be a very similar
backtrace. This behaviour appeared within the past week.

In my opinion this bug should at least be important - no matter how
malformed the data it is dealing with the application should not crash,
especially given that it is a security sensitive application.

Hi.

Since nobody so far seems to have encountered the same problem I'm
inclined to close the bug report. If you still think there is really
a bug here please provide the output of "dpkg -s dpkg-dev" and
"dpkg -L dpkg-dev"

Also it would be interesting if the symlink is still missing
after a reinstall of 1.14.4 or an upgrade 1.14.5

Bug#432609: xsane: Saving files is too slow

2007-07-10 Thread Joris van Rooij
Package: xsane
Severity: wishlist

Saving files using xsane is really slow. It's caused by the high frequence of
updates to the progress bar. Here's a patch to fix this problem.

According to the upstream developer a fix for this problem will be included
in the next release of xsane, although he can't say when it will be released.
So this patch should only be temporary.

Bug#428923: FTBFS: ezusb.c:32:25: error: linux/usb.h: No such file or directory

2007-07-10 Thread Jim Paris
The chroot probably has the newer "linux-libc-dev" installed instead
of "linux-kernel-headers". It looks like "linux-libc-dev" is missing
the usb.h file.

This package could do what libusb does, and just include its own
version of "usb.h". Or it could be rewritten to go through libusb
instead of using the usbfs interface directly.

This is not supported. .ilist file is mmaped, and is essentially
architecture-specific.

Funny... this is what I have (with 0.7.5-1):

| That seems icky... at least on AMD64, gfortran2 seems to be the default.

I'm missing something. We *did* switch to gcc-4.2 which *defaults to
gfortran2* which is why you had this bug because you only have gfortran2 and
not gfortran1.

Ah, you've got "libfortran1" not "libgfortran1" in multcomp's dependencies.

I think the solution here for R packages is:

Build-Depends: should not mention fortran at all; r-base-dev should
pull in a fortran compiler and runtime anyway, and any r-cran-* that
need a libgfortran should already depend on those.
Depends: for packages including binary libraries (architecture: any;
has a src directory) need ${shlibs:Depends}
Depends: for packages that are R code only (architecture: all; all
code is in the R directory) don't.

So: multcomp should go back to not requiring fortran anywhere; mvtnorm
should build-depend on r-base-dev and depends: ${shlibs:Depends}; and
all will be fixed once mvtnorm (and any other binary R packages that
didn't have shlibs:Depends before) is rebuilt everywhere.

Hello. Thanks for reporting this problem. I am able to reproduce it
and will report it upstream and track its progress.

I really apologize for waiting so long to respond to this, especially
considering that you sponsored several of my uploads while I was still
waiting to become a DD! :-) My life has been busy (in a good way), but
I'm trying to get caught up on by debian work now.

Hopefully I can upload a new patched version soon.

I do not believe this is firefox/iceweasel/whatever-specific. rPath Linux

we seem to be using 2.6 glibc - perhaps there is a bug in the new malloc() code?

rpl is tracking this issue at https://issues.rpath.com/browse/RPL-1531, for

When using the "-vvv" option to increase verbosity of fxload,
the lines read in from the hex file are modified in such a way
that they then fail a later length check, and the error
