Bug#444104: Kernel crashes on boot on IP32 (SGI O2)

2007-09-26 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.20-1
Severity: serious

Our IP32 kernel crashes on boot since 2.6.20. This is because we use
CONFIG_BUILD_ELF64 tha accidentally got broken upstream. There's a
fix upstream for this in 2.6.23.

I'll backport http://www.linux-mips.org/g/linux/db423f6e to 2.6.22 and
put it into SVN.

Bug#444105: no-ip: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-09-26 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: no-ip
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, September 08, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for no-ip.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading no-ip with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Saturday, September 29, 2007,
when I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Saturday, October 20, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed
or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around DAY25, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#444035: xkb-data: latam layout: no dead_tilde

2007-09-26 Thread Christian Perrier
Recently (as in etch's 0.9-4 vs lenny's 1.0~cvs.20070721-1), the Spanish
layout has changed one of its asciitilde to dead_tilde. The chosen key was
AE04, because that's the one that has the tilde printed on the key.

 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9763

In the Latinamerican case, the printed one is AD12, thus, I'm suggesting
changing that one to dead_tilde. Similar as to what the original bug
report showed, the ibm globalization site, cites this key as combining
 tilde:

 http://www-306.ibm.com/software/globalization/topics/keyboards/KBD171.jsp

I'm not sure about AE04. It could be good to have it as dead too, for
consistency (Spanish and Latin American are both common in many Spanish
speaking countries), but having 2 out of 3 as dead might be overkill.

Side question while reading this bug report:

Would this make sense to change the es.kmap and la-latin1.kmap keymaps
from console-data (which are used at the console, and during D-I)
accordingly:

[EMAIL
PROTECTED]:~/src/debian/console-data/console-data-1.03/keymaps/i386/qwerty
grep -i tilde es.kmap
! Spanish keymap, note the spanish IBM keyboard lacks an ascitilde (~), I

keycode 5 = four dollar asciitilde
keycode 13 = exclamdown questiondown asciitilde
keycode 39 = +ntilde +Ntilde
shift alt keycode 43 = Meta_asciitilde

Bug#435126: dpkg-source please ignore vcs dirs for native packages too

The problem with generating WP format is that you need to provide
more information about how the package is constructed than is given to
an invocation of dpkg-source -b which has only the .orig dir or
.orig.tar.gz and the current dir. Given those basic input, the most
sensible output is v1.0 format.

So, while dpkg-source needs to be able to parse WP format, the task
of creating it should fall to tools better suited to the job: think
git-buildpackage and other such tools which should have knowledge of a
discrete set of patches/changesets.

Note that parse support in dpkg-source still allows for a package to
be unpacked/edited/rebuilt (albeit in a lossy way) by a local admin,
the security team or whoever using only dpkg-dev tools.

  dpkg-source -x pack.dsc # unpack v2.0

Is there a problem with the postinst script?

Bug#444115: general: network interface (eth0) gets undetected after restrat checked using ifconfig -a

2007-09-26 Thread Antano Solar
Package: general
Severity: important

When the cmos battery is removed and power unplugged and the system booted .
I press f2(load defaults) in the cmos screen and the syetm boots very slowly
and detects my lan card. i.e ifconfig -a lists eth0.
But after this if I shut down the computer and start again or even restart
it , the network card is not detected . when the network card goes undetected
even if I boot into windows it remains undetected in windows also. To make
the netowrk card appear again I need to rerun the procedure of removing the
batters and unplugging power cable.

It seems like when shutting down the system the OS is setting some flag or
something like that in the bios which makes the network card go undetected.

I have tried this in debian etch , lenny and sidux.

The results are the same irrespective of the debian distribution.

havent checked it with other distributions yet.

Also about booting up , when I restart or shutdown and start the computer it
boots prettu fast , but when I clear the bios and boot it takes nearly 3 - 5
minutes to boot.

Bug#440358: New upload encoded as iso8859-1

2007-09-26 Thread Ruben Porras
Hello Colin,

I send last week a new version of the package with the manpages
encoded in latin1.

However the maintainer that normally uploads the package is probably
busy because he didn't respond yet and I'm waiting in the meantime for
him to upload the package.

Bug#443375: error found but not jet solved

2007-09-26 Thread Christian Gogolin
I was able to track down the error to a single line of code used by the
program chvt.

The Problem is the call

ioctl(fd,VT_ACTIVATE,num)

that uses the VT interface to switch consoles.

I would suggest to close this bug report, I am going to open a more
specific one.

Bug#444117: scim: Can't see Chinese characters clearly on 12-inch 1024x768

2007-09-26 Thread clayton
Package: scim
Version: 1.4.7-1
Severity: normal

SCIM is an outstanding piece of software, except for a little eye-strain

I have a thinkpad X20 with a 12-inch 1024x768. When I use SCIM to enter
simplified Chinese, I REALLY cannot see the characters in the tiny little
character selector window (the one with the numbered list of
characters) clearly. I also can see no way for me to change the font size in
that window.

For the record, I have another 14-inch 1024x768 thinkpad where visibility is
better, but the characters are still smaller then I personally would like.

Especially for us non-native Chinese users, it would be better to err on the
side of a font that is too big then a font that is too small. If I could
control it, I would make that character selector VERY big.

Bug#424908: gcstar: Format may be incorrect loading error

2007-09-26 Thread Alexander Wirt
Oleksandr Moskalenko schrieb am Donnerstag, den 17. Mai 2007:

Hi Alex,
I just made another attempt to use gcstar instead of gcfilms, but I think I'm
hitting https://gna.org/bugs/?7885 or something similar. I can import my
collection from gcfilms, but after saving the new gcstar file I cannot open it
anymore. I get a Cannot open items list. Format may be incorrect error; the
main window greys out and I have to kill the program. On the next open only
few records seem to be in the saved .gcs file, so it looks like it's hitting
something it doesn't recognize during opening the file and truncates it on
that record. Anyway, as far as I am concerned the package is unusable with
 this bug.
Is this behaviour still existing in recent versions? I can't reproduce this
bug here.

I can't upgrade pidgin from version 2.0.1-1 to 2.2.0-1, it would get

I have encountered the problem initially when trying to full-upgrade the
system. There is only one pinning policy (for mplayer), nothing else in
/etc/apt/preferences.

Any hints are appreciated!

Andre

Can you try 1:1.9.99.dfsg.1-1 currently in experimental? It's the new RandR
1.2 driver. It is supposed to make dual head management easier (but it is
not very stable yet). You'll have to update your xorg.conf for RandR 1.2,

Good-o. I'll send a message to debian-devel before too long, informing

chance to argue in favour of leaving it in. I'll then remove it a week
or so after that, closing this bug.

The problem with generating WP format is that you need to provide
more information about how the package is constructed than is given to
an invocation of dpkg-source -b which has only the .orig dir or
.orig.tar.gz and the current dir. Given those basic input, the most
 sensible output is v1.0 format.

Up to now yes, but we could define debian/source (or new headers in
debian/control) to contain that supplementary information.

BTW, do you have pointers summing up everything what's already defined
concerning WP ?

So, while dpkg-source needs to be able to parse WP format, the task
of creating it should fall to tools better suited to the job: think
git-buildpackage and other such tools which should have knowledge of a
 discrete set of patches/changesets.

I'm not sure I like this idea... I'd rather have those tools generate the
debian/source file (or more generally interface with a dpkg API to define
how the package should be built).

Cheers,

2007-09-26 Thread Andreas Balser
Hmmm, have you tried hitting Enter to select the drive that's

*That* should show you the partitions to display, IIRC.

Not quite: He asks whether it is okay to generate a whole new
partition table (but I can still undo that). If I agree, I see one
more line underneath the drive saying that all 40GB are FREE SPACE

Didn't the -o nolock option solve the problem without adding nfs-common?

caused by the hardware or the firmware - either the BIOS or the network

Bug#444121: bugs.debian.org: Acknowledgement mail could include link to web interface

2007-09-26 Thread Marc Fargas
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
For people that send a bug report by the very first time when they receive the
acknowledgement mail they are provided with ways extend the bug report and
even close it. But they're not told two things:

- You will receive any follow-up messages to yours.
- You can check the status of this bug report and any following comments
  on the bugs.debian.org website:
http://bugs.debian.org/$your_bugno

At least the second one could be added to the acknowledgement template, that
would tell the user that bug reports do not fall on a black hole but that
they're public and that he/she can always see how the bug is.

Just 0.02 ;)

Bug#443375: error found but not jet solved

Hi Christian,

Thanks for issuing this bug report, and for all the additional
debugging (you did my homework!). ;)

Christian Gogolin wrote:
I was able to track down the error to a single line of code used by

Good, it is great to find the reason for such strange behaviour.

 The Problem is the call

 ioctl(fd,VT_ACTIVATE,num)

that uses the VT interface to switch consoles.

I would suggest to close this bug report, I am going to open a more
 specific one.

You simply do not need to. The package base is a placeholder for all
these bug reports that we don't know where they belong yet. Usually what
we do is find the package that has this bug and then reassing it to it.

I am very happy to do this for you now, there is no further action you
need to take, except for working with the console-tools maintainer in
fixing this bug :)

Happy hacking!

Bug#444128: crash against python2.4

2007-09-26 Thread Alan Baghumian
Package: sabayon
Severity: important
Tags: patch

* Package name : sabayon
Version : 2.20.0-1

Sabayon 2.20 should be built and run against python 2.5. It gives the
following error:

# sabayon

Building against python2.5 and runing with python2.5, or backporting
the source for python 2.4 fixes the problem.

Bug#444009: Vim with language plugins (python, ruby, perl, tcl) requires X11.

   vim-gtk -- All currently supported language bindings, X11 w/Gtk
vim-full/nox -- All currently supported language bindings, no-X11

Is this one package proposal or two? I guess one, since otherwise there
would be no differences among vim-full and vim-gnome, right? So I would
go for vim-nox, which makes clear the purpose of the variant directly
from the package name.

Thanks for your investigations, I agree with this split idea.

Bug#442912: Ре: #442912 -- libmail-box-perl: autodetection of MH folders not working correctly

Hi,

This problem is claimed to be fixed in the new upstream release 2.075.

However, building now requires TAP::Harness, which is not in Debian, so
the upload may take a some time. Help is welcome :)

Changes:

- Replace Test::Harness by TAP::Harness to run tests, which
  is cleaner and faster.

Fixes:

- recursively opening folders with manager involved, retriggers
autodetect each time, sometimes coming up with an unexpected
  folder type. [Celejar]
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=442912

- Mail::Box::Locker::POSIX should not include POSIX.pm, but
  requires Errno.pm [cpan-testers, perl 5.10]

Bug#444138: Support for other xservers than xvfb in xfvb-run

2007-09-26 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Package: xvfb
Version: 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/xvfb-run
Tags: patch

I had the need to use the xvfb-run script with another xserver. With the
attached patch, you can choose e.g. Xephyr over xvfb, to actually watch
your testscript. This way, it is more easy to debug the testscripts.

Find attached my modifications to xvfb-run and the manpage, both as
derived versions x-run and x-run.1 in full and diff format.

Feel free to submit this upstream and/or apply this to the debian
package.

Bug#444139: no effect in X-Session changing ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp in kdmrc

2007-09-26 Thread Paul Coray

Package: kdm
Version: 3.5.7-3

I want to start X-Session capable to display X-Apps from remote hosts.
Commenting out the '-nolisten tcp' Option in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc like this

[X-:*-Core]
#ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp

does not have the expectet effect. X keeps starting without listening to
remote connections:

$ pgrep -lf X
10023 /usr/bin/X -br -nolisten tcp :0 vt7 -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-bfneHR

BTW: I DID set xhost [hostname] locally and the DISPLAY-variable
correctly on the remote host...

Thx
Paul

Bug#443964: java-package: javaws also crashes

2007-09-26 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: java-package
Followup-For: Bug #443964

The reason in my case is that I simple didn't know about the prepackages
version. Anyway, it doesn't make a difference in this case - I've
installed sun-java6-jre and the same thing keeps happening. I have some
new information however: javaws -viewer also crashes. I conclude that
there is a problem with javaws.

Attached you will find the BugBuddy report from javaws crashing, minus
the .xsession errors which didn't contain anything useful and did
contain some personal information.

I hope this new information is helpful.

Bug#444114: WFM

2007-09-26 Thread Peter Schwindt
With some help from #debian-x (thanks, guys) it's now WFM for me. What
did I do:

1) install xserver-xorg-video-mga from experimental (1:1.9.99.dfsg.1-1)

2) remove xorg.conf

3) change the display plugs (DVI - VGA)

4) use xrandr --output DVI --left-of VGA

I had to do step 3) since --right-of only blanked the right (the DVI
one) display. Xinerama existed, I could move the mouse onto that display
(but it also blackened)

I'll add xrandr output as well as the Xorg.0.log

joystick builds fine on powerpc, and both jscal and jstest work fine (at
least for usb joysticks), so I think it should be available.

I hope this new information is helpful.

These bugs are not in java-package. The bug is in SUN JDK packaged by
java-package. Please try the latest package from SUN and report the bugs
to SUN when not fixed yet.

I will close that bug now as we can do nothing about that proprietary

java-package does something wrong with packaging SUN JDK.

Sorry for that bad news.

I suspect that 1.0.rc15-2etch1 contains bugs that produces the

Bug#444142: joystick: Adding axis and button remapping capability to the included jscal tool

2007-09-26 Thread Dr . László Kaján
Package: joystick
Version: 20051019-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Motivation

I found no simple tool that would remap the joystick axes
and buttons on the device driver level (joydev module), while the driver
clearly provides the interface for this. My patch extends to
capabilities of jscal in order to remap axes and buttons. While
remapping in the X configuration file is possible, that mapping does not
seem to help in all games.

Detail

I bought a Trust GM-2550 Predator joystick the other day, and I noticed
that the axes were mapped incorrectly: the throttle in place of the
rudder, and the pinky button's axes were shifted up 1 slot in the axis
map. I found no tool to re-map the axes on the device driver (joydev)
level. While remapping is possible in the X config, this did not solve
the problem for - for example - SearchAndRescue.

Also I found no way to remap joystick buttons on the device driver
level. This is quite necessary for example for tuxkart, because some of
the buttons the game uses are unfortunately unreachable while holding
the joystick comfortably (some buttons are too far on the stick).

I found that the joydev kernel module does provide the API for axes and
button remapping. I added two command line options to jscal and two
corresponding functions that utilize the API and remap buttons and axes.
I have tested the axes and button remapping, and it works as intended. I
can swap buttons and axes as I wish.

Implementation

Please find the diff of jscal.c in joystick attached (joystick.diff).

The modified jscal.c adds two command line arguments:

-q --print-mappingsPrint the current axis and button
mappings as a jscal command line

and

-u n_of_axes,axmap1,axmap2,...,
n_of_buttons,btnmap1,btnmap2,
... --set-mappings Sets axis and button mappings to the
 specified values

An example output of -q looks like this (./jscal -q /dev/input/js0):

jscal -u
10,0,1,2,5,6,16,17,40,41,42,13,288,289,290,291,292,293,294,295,296,297,298,299,300
/dev/input/js0

The joystick has 10 axes and 13 buttons. If now one is to switch axes 2
and 5 (to get the rudder and the throttle right), one has to execute:

jscal -u
10,0,1,5,2,6,16,17,40,41,42,13,288,289,290,291,292,293,294,295,296,297,298,299,300
/dev/input/js0

changing 2,5 to 5,2 on the line.

Remapping buttons is done the same way.

2007-09-26 Thread Ben Armstrong
Package: libxxf86misc1
Version: 1:1.0.1-2
Severity: normal

After upgrading to xorg 7.3, xpilot-ng-x11 dies as soon as I click the mouse
with the following error:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 137 (XFree86-Misc)
Minor opcode of failed request: 3 (XF86MiscGetMouseSettings)
  Value in failed request: 0x260017b
Serial number of failed request: 513231
Current serial number in output stream: 513231

This happened with two different implementations of xpilot, one in Debian and
one not (but from a common ancestor, so it also uses XFree86-Misc to get mouse
settings) and on two different systems that had been upgraded to xorg 7.3,
one with the proprietary nvidia driver and the other with i810.

If I start xpilot inside a VNC session which lacks the XFree86-Misc extension,
xpilot does not die when I click the mouse (of course, the graphics performance
plunges, so this isn't really a workaround -- but it confirms where the
problem is happening.)

What exactly? Borders? Will the dialogues get opened with the Border

I can't reproduce this on any arch *except* on amd64, but then only with

Interestingly not for the other archs and neither for 1:2.3.0-1.

Bug#444144: RFP: adanaxisgpl - FPS game in 4 spatial dimensions

2007-09-26 Thread Andy Southgate
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name : adanaxisgpl
Version : 1.2.0
Upstream Author : Andy Southgate [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.mushware.com/files/adanaxisgpl-1.2.0.tar.gz
* License : GPL
Description :

Adanaxis is probably the first real time shooter in four spatial
dimensions (so that's four not including time). Information and reviews
can be found at:

http://www.mushware.com/ (Developer site)
http://www.linuxgamingworld.com/2007/07/adanaxis
http://happypenguin.org/show?Adanaxis

This is the GPL version of the full commercial game. It's stripped of
material that can't be GPL'd, but it's not a demo - it does contain all of
the levels and has no artificial limitations.

Much of the packaging work is already done. You can unpack the tarball
and type ./configure ; make debian-release (or use dpkg-buildpackage
directly) and, with a bit of luck, get a .deb at the end. The code is
64-bit and big/littleendian clean. The binary .debs built for the
commercial release are already available at mushware.com/x11 if you'd like
to take a look.

I am the upstream developer and available to support the packager, modify
the upstream, etc. You will need sound and hardware-accelerated 3D to
meaningfully test the build, and it does take about 15 minutes to compile
on a modern single core. Language is C++ and ruby.

Bug#444015: kdegraphics: CVE-2007-5049 stack based buffer overflow

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
  in your changelog entry.

You can find a patch on:
  ftp://ftp.foolabs.com/pub/xpdf/xpdf-3.02pl1.patch

I'm overlooking something? Because that patch changes the same code than the
 patch:

 ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/security_patches/post-3.5.7-kdegraphics-CVE-2007-3387.diff

 applied to fix CVE-2007-3387

This patch is not the same. Look at the difference, your
patch just changes the values in between the if statement.
But the other patch changes also the place of the statement.
I think the diff format used is a bit confusing, look at:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/diff/?id=c240daefe660ac3456dc0c5f5dc82aa53ebc3313id2=1ba884b6b98ac8d755c9adc9f23a7a68d8b17b54

However I wonder that the changelog just mentions CVE-2007-3387 because
mitre says they are not the same. I wrote them a mail about the exact
difference.
Anyway, the patch from freedesktop.org is correct.
Kind regards

Bug#444145: /usr/share/man/man8/ld.so.8.gz does not document the $ORIGIN, $PLATFORM and $LIB feature

2007-09-26 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Package: libc6
Version: 2.6.1-1+b1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
File: /usr/share/man/man8/ld.so.8.gz

Raphael Hertzog noticed in [1] that the openoffice.org package is using
the undocumented $ORIGIN feature of the linux ld.so. See [2] for a
documentation of that feature.

[1] http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.general/119923
[2] http://linuxreviews.org/man/ld.so/

See the following irc query in #debian-devel:

12:42:05 MadCoder according to http://linuxreviews.org/man/ld.so/ it does
12:42:20 MadCoder (understands $ORIGIN)
12:43:04 MadCoder siretart: linux seems to support it
12:43:12 MadCoder it's just not in the man page
12:43:21 MadCoder let me look at ld code
12:43:21 siretart MadCoder: oh. then we should have that documented :)
12:43:31 buxy siretart: anyway, thanks for the info!
12:43:53 MadCoder siretart: yeah, stupid glibc maintainers
12:44:27 _rene_ siretart: their goal is to get rid of LD_LIBRARY_PATH (which
they currently use, too because some internally shipped libs like libxml,
python, .. (sic!) don't have the RPATH)
12:44:53 _rene_ siretart: and they indeed used $ORIGIN since ever.
12:45:08 MadCoder siretart: the code shows that $ORIGIN and $PLATFORM are
supported
12:45:27 MadCoder and $LIB
12:45:31 MadCoder not sure what they do
12:45:40 _rene_ MadCoder: ah, so it's an ld feature? good to know...
12:45:58 MadCoder yeah I'm looking at glibc-2.6/elf/dl-load.c right now :)
12:46:02 * _rene_ didn't really look that deep into what $ORIGIN is for at OOo
12:46:23 MadCoder and it seems that you can put $ORIGIN $PLATFORM and $LIB
in your rpath
12:46:38 MadCoder $ORIGIN is the absolute path the binary in question live
12:46:44 MadCoder $PLATFORM is your elf platform
12:46:58 siretart MadCoder: cool!
12:47:10 MadCoder I'm not sure to understand what $LIB is yet
12:49:39 MadCoder siretart: and it seems linux supports it at least since
glibc 2.1
12:49:43 MadCoder so it's hardly new
12:50:15 _rene_ .oO ( that also explains why OOos configure script
explicitely checks for glibc being = 2.1 )
12:51:02 MadCoder probably
12:51:29 MadCoder $LIB is defined it seems to a safe path where to find
libraries when building the glibc
12:51:32 MadCoder it's odd
12:52:16 MadCoder though $ORIGIN and $PLATFORM are definitely nice features
12:52:33 MadCoder buxy: so you shouldn't have such a hard time to deal with
it
12:53:00 MadCoder for a library path/to/libfoo.so $ORIGIN has to be replaced
with path/to
12:54:25 buxy MadCoder: yeah, that's easy, however I think I'll ignore
$PLATFORM and $LIB for now
12:54:31 * siretart goes to file a bug about documenting the $ORIGIN feature
12:55:14 MadCoder $LIB is likely to be never used

Hi Julien

Yes you are fully correct it is fully possible to do that.
Today there are no good checks. Patches to correct this
are welcome.

There a number of checks that can be done.

Best regards,

Debarchiver as released in etch allows people to upload to a
distribution that is not listed in @distributions. It should reject the
deb and send e-mail to that affect to the uploader.

Bug#138752: please at least document this limitation

2007-09-26 Thread bremner

I just spent a little while understanding why help2man -h '-h' foo
was returning

help2man: can't get `-h' info from foo

In order to save the next person the trouble, I have a suggestion.
If you plan to not handle output on stderr, could you please document
this in the man page (and the help output)?

Also, it might be nice if a more suggestive error message was printed
when stdin is empty but status is OK. Something along the lines of
Oh, your program probably prints its help message to stderr. help2man
does not support this.

Bug#444147: Generated images are *much* larger

2007-09-26 Thread Faidon Liambotis
Package: graphviz
Version: 2.12-4
Severity: grave

It appears that the newest graphviz in unstable creates some much
cleared images (antialiazed etc.) by the use of pango.

Unfortunately, this means that the generated images are *much* larger.
This may be not a very serious problem by itself but doxygen uses
graphviz and many packages in Debian generate their -doc packages using
doxygen.

asterisk-doc images were 13MB and with the newer graphviz this figure
gets to 112M (10 times more!). The package size gets from 28MB to 122MB.
I can't imagine what would happen on bigger software suites.
This will affect seriously all Debian mirrors!

I'm not sure what the proper solution -if any- would be and if this bug
would need to be reassigned to doxygen, but I'm filing this here since
the graphviz maintainer would know the situation better.

The severity may seem a bit inflated since there is no actual defect;
however, there is a need for a workaround or fix ASAP before this
seriously hits all mirrors.

Regards,
Faidon

If the problem appears in other operating systems, it sounds like it is
caused by the hardware or the firmware - either the BIOS or the network
 card's.

The problem occurs in windows only if I do a shutdown in linux.
When i boot in windows and restart again or shutdown and start it is fine.
But the card disappears only after I boot into linux and shutdown
