But, but, but - doesn't the texlive-games package completely replace tex-skak
(and probably conflict with it)?

Bug#58735: Shipping Clerk - flexible time work-at-home opening

2007-09-28 Thread Angelica

Our company is looking for energetic and accountable individuals to occupy
Shipping Clerk positions throughout the USA. These vacancies are entirely
home-based and do not require any travel or relocation. They are also
suitable for students and senior citizens who are able to dedicate up to
three business hours per day to their duties. No special qualifications are
required, although previous shipping or customer service experience is a
plus. We are an international company providing mail/internet order
opportunities for a global clientele since 1997. We are based in Russia, and
also have offices in Latvia and Kazakhstan. Our business provides
online/Online Order facilities for those who are unable to benefit from the
convenience of e-commerce due to lack of a banking relationship with an
internationally recognized bank or because major online vendors will not
ship to their location. We have domestic purchasing agents who place the
orders on behalf of our clients, and the goods are then shipped to the local
shipping clerks for further sorting and international shipment. We also
provide escrow services for high amount and/or web auction orders, and offer
assistance with customs clearance, if required. Currently, we are looking
for individuals to fill in the positions of shipping clerks throughout the
USA. Your duties will include receiving, sorting, repackaging and re-sending
the orders made on behalf of our clients using the pre-paid USPS shipping
labels that you will receive via email. You will be paid $20 for each parcel
that you ship, plus $5 for each order that you will need to re-sort or
re-package. We will also cover any other authorized expense, such as extra
insurance or shipping materials. Your remuneration will be remitted to you
via Western Union twice a month. You can expect to handle 5-15 incoming
packages weekly, following a 2 week probation period. You can perform your
duties from the convenience of your home. You will generally be re-shipping
the orders on same day or next day basis, so you will not need to sacrifice
your home space to storage. You will only be receiving orders placed with
reputable online vendors and delivered by major courier services, such as
FedEx and UPS, who pay great attention to ensuring that they are not
involved into trafficking any illegal substances or hazardous materials.
Thus, there will be no risk on your end. We also encourage you to open and
inspect each package that you receive to ensure the legitimacy and safety of
itsâ content. In order to fill the shipping clerk position, you need to be
aged 18 and above, have a permanent address where you are available on a
regular basis and also have access to phone and email. In order to ensure
that you can be entrusted the client merchandise, we will need to verify
your identity and confirm that you do not have any previous criminal
convictions. To apply for this position and for more information on our
company, please fax your resume and (optionally) cover letter to: (309)

Bug#444458: fbset tries to create /dev/fb device on upgrade

durting upgrade, I get this:

Setting up fbset (2.1-20) ...
error making /dev/fb: File exists

Errors were encountered while processing:

I guess this is MAKEDEV's fault, because it shouldn't be trying to
mess with udev. In any case, fbset's postinst shouldn't fail if it
can't create the device. Is there any reason for fbset to create the

Bug#444459: fails to create /dev/fb in udev-handled /dev/

2007-09-28 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Package: MAKEDEV
Version: 3.3.8.2-0
Severity: normal

I use udev, which created the fraembuffer device /dev/fb/0. Now,
when MAKEDEV fb is called (for example from fbset's postinst), it
fails, trying to overwrite the directory /dev/fb with a symlink:

| [EMAIL PROTECTED]/dev sudo ./MAKEDEV -v fb
| symlink fb - fb0
| error making /dev/fb: File exists

Shouldn't MAKEDEV just ignore such a call when it detects udev and
just exit with exitcode 0? Or maybe just create the device in
/dev/.static/dev/ or so?

Bug#444446: race: fakeroot: error while starting the `faked' daemon.

Since version 1.8, many (but not all) of my daily debian-installer

| Database load failed

| kill: usage: kill [-s sigspec | -n signum | -sigspec] pid | jobspec ... or

Seems like the change in 1.8 introduced a race.

I just noticed that this bug has already been reported and fixed
upstream [1].
Imho it would be better to *not* fallback to loading libtracker.so. As I
mentioned earlier, the name libtracker was already taken and we might
end up loading the wrong lib.

Cheers,

Net::DNS::Resolver::Programmable is a Net::DNS::Resolver descendant class that
allows a virtual DNS to be emulated instead of querying the real DNS. A set
of static DNS records may be supplied, or arbitrary code may be specified as a
means for retrieving DNS records, or even generating them on the fly.

The source package would generate a libnet-dns-resolver-programmable-perl

mowgli is a development framework for C (like GLib), which provides high
performance and highly flexible algorithms. It can be used as a suppliment
to GLib (to add additional functions (dictionaries, hashes), or replace some
of the slow GLib list manipulation functions), or stand alone. It also
 provides
a powerful hook system and convenient logging for your code, as well as a high

Extremely minor nitpick: In English, the first letter of a sentence is
always capitilized. Thus, the beginning of your long description should
be Mowgli is a devlopement framework for C

(The short description, OTOH, is not a sentence, and so should NOT be
capitalized. Isn't English fun?)

Bug#444416: Searching for reports by eMail-address has case-sensitivity issues

2007-09-28 Thread Don Armstrong

Searching bdo for bugs submitted from a specific eMail-address currently
 forces all addresses to lower-case.

 Compare:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This behaviour is wrong. Two possible fixes:

 1) Make the search case-insensitive. Technically not correct, but
 probably the user-expected behaviour.

Whether or not the addresses are case sensitive or not is dependent on
the receiving MTA; whether the BTS chooses to do seaches which are
case sensitive or not is entirely its choice. What it must do is
preserve the case of the email address when it is *sending* mail or
similar. So in short, #1 is not technically incorrect and is the
method that will be utilized.

change in some future release (see the exception Patches Heading

Fedora users started to build lots of 64 bit shared libraries linked
with -lcamlrun I could end up maintaining it separately forever.

[I meant to say -lcamlrun_shared here]

I think you misunderstood my proposal. I don't want to apply your
initial fix which changes libcamlrun.a into libcamlrun.so. I want to add
a libcamlrun_shared.so, so there would be no ABI change, just the added
   possibility to link against it.

Or maybe you're concerned about having to drop in the future support for
libcamlrun_shared.so, but I think the user impact of that new library
would be quite low. In fact I don't think anything else that
mod_caml-like projects will need it ...

That would also need to go upstream before Fedora could accept it.

Why? I would have thought it is close to *policy* to provide
libraries for both static and dynamic link.

Please don't get me wrong here: I want the patch in OCaml, I want
Fedora to follow Debian's packaging decisions where possible, and I
want to have mod_caml ocamlnet + Apache working. But this patch is
a big potential change to the API and it can't go in to Fedora unless
INRIA accept it upstream, and that concern overrides other issues.
Hopefully INRIA will indicate that they want to accept this in which
case it can go in to Fedora straightaway.

Bug#444414: yelp hangs, no help contents shown

2007-09-28 Thread Roderich Schupp
Package: yelp
Version: 2.18.1-1
Severity: important

When I try the following

$ yelp
ghelp:///usr/share/gnome/help/user-guide/C/user-guide.xml?nautilus-server-connect

yelp comes up, but the main help pane remains empty and yelp hangs
showing the watch cursor.
On the console I see the following errors:

xmlXPathCompOpEval: function has-same-node not found
XPath error : Unregistered function
xmlXPathCompiledEval: 2 objects left on the stack.

Looks like there's a problem with EXSLT functions (has-same-node
is from http://exslt.org/sets). strace'ing the above shows
that yelp never attempts to load /usr/lib/libexslt.so.0 and
instead tries to load a non-existing
/usr/lib/libxslt-plugins/exslt_org_sets.so.

Cheers, Roderich

Did you receive any sort of response for the Info-Zip bug submission?
The forwarded URL is just their submission form, and I was unable to
bring up anything resembling a public mailing list or web-based bug
tracker where the bug would be ending up. Perhaps you could at least
ask them to Cc: this bug if they respond to your report?

AFAIK grub does not support LVM on top of md raid1 whereas lilo does?
The installer allows to setup LVM on top of raid and as far as I
remember then suggests usage of lilo.

Just as explanation / usage scenario:
I use lvm on top of raid1 on a laptop and run the raid in degraded state
most of the time. From time to time I attach an external usb disk and
resync it. (incremental resync that is)

IMHO lilo should provide an option in lilo.conf corresponding -H.

  Version : 1.0-RC9
Upstream Author : Thomas Bernard [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.example.org/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C, C++
Description : UPnP IGD lightweight daemon

The UPnP protocol is supported by most home adsl/cable routers and Microsoft
Windows 2K/XP. The aim of the MiniUPnP project is to bring a free software
solution to support the Internet Gateway Device part of the protocol. The
MediaServer/MediaRenderer UPnP protocol is also becoming very popular but here
we are talking about IGD.

Miniupnpc aims at the simplest library possible, with the smallest footprint
and no dependencies to other libraries such as XML parsers or HTTP
implementations. All the code is pure ANSI C. Compiled on a x86 PC, the
miniupnp client library have less than 15KB code size. For instance, the upnpc
sample program is around 20KB. The miniupnp daemon is much smaller than any
other IGD daemon and is ideal for using on low memory device for this reason.

  Version : 1.4-1
Upstreem Author : Terence Way [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.wayforward.net/pycontract/
* License : Python License, GPL-3, Artistic
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Programming by contract for python

This package provides a means for programming by contract in python.
Programming by contact is a methodology whereby a API designer can
define checkable preconditions and postconditions for method calls,
and invariants for classes and methods. The most famous use of this
methodology is in the Eiffel programming language.
 .
This implementation of programming by contract has the developer
write constraints in the docstrings of methods and classes that can
be optionally checked at runtime. If the constraints are not met,
 an exception is raised.

Bug#444387: bash completion for mpc update

2007-09-28 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: mpc
Version: 0.12.1-1

mpc update takes the same kind of optional argument as mpc ls.
The bash completion snippet seems to only tab complete the latter; it
could usefully complete both.

Bug#444278: [Linux-HA] Re: [Linux-ha-dev] [ANNOUNCE] Interim heartbeat packages refreshed (2.1.2-4)

2007-09-28 Thread Simon Horman
On Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 02:15:26PM +0900, Horms wrote:
 Hi,

I have made packages of this interim release, with a view of uploading
them to Debian. They are version 2.1.2+hg.11310.702e4f418ca8-1. And they
 can be found at http://packages.vergenet.net/sid/heartbeat/

I have not uploaded these packages to Debian as the BasicSanityCheck
fails on Debian Sid. Could someone take a look at the attached log and
see if this is anything that I should be worried about; If not I'm happy
to upload the packages as is.

Log snippet:

heartbeat[557]: 2007/09/28_17:17:26 ERROR: glib: Error sending packet:
Operation not permitted
heartbeat[557]: 2007/09/28_17:17:26 ERROR: write failure on ping 127.0.0.1.:
Operation not permitted

On further analysis it seems that this problem also manifiests
when 2.1.2-2 is recompiled against the current sid. So I suspect that
the problem lies in the underlying libraries.

As libopeniompi10 has now disapeared from Debian Sid, rendering
heartbeat uninstallable, I have decided to upload anyway.
In a nutshell, due to circumstances beyond my control
the hearbeat package has become broken. Hopefully this
upload moves it closer to being fixed.

Anibal, if you are so inclined, feel free to make uploads as you
see fit in my absence. I'll be back on the 15th - though likely
very tired.

There is a dependency problem in the current openipmi package, so if you want
to install heartbeat 2.1.2+hg.11310.702e4f418ca8-1 on Debian Sid then you
will need to use the openipmi 2.0.11-1.1 packages that I have available
in http://packages.vergenet.net/sid/openimpi/ . For details of the
 dependency problem see: http://bugs.debian.org/444089

Lastly, on a personal note, I will be more-or-less off-line for about
two weeks as of tomorrow as I will be taking my honeymoon. Please excuse
a lack of responsiveness during that time.

Ran test again via XDMCP and it worked.
This X server was SRSS on Solaris sparc.

The problem only happened when I used ssh -XC.
These X servers are Etch on powerpc and sparc.

When I XDMCP from the same box I used ssh -XC on I also have the
problem. It looks like there are some X server side deps I do not
know about.

I posted this in wine because I have never had this problem before.

Hi Bart,

I'm using the ipw2200 driver in my X40 Thinkpad, as per:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_PRO/Wireless_2200BG_Mini-PCI_Adapter

I'm looking at notes I made here last month and if the laptop is running
on battery (and hence a powersaved wireless) and is then hibernated, put
on AC, then awoken, laptop-mode-tools doesn't switch it back to the
regular power mode. This action first got me interested in the
powersaving behaviour, with later tests showing that it didn't switch it
back at any point however I would feel better if someone else out there
could replicate this point.

The code is from a bigger project but I could reduce it to a few

It seems to be a problem with the garbage collector

on non x86/X86_64 machines.

Or maybe you're concerned about having to drop in the future support for

Bug#443824: libtrackerclient0: should be linked with -Bsymbolic

 Le vendredi 28 septembre 2007 à 11:43 +0200, Michael Biebl a écrit :

 Hi Joss,

the ld manpage was not particularly helpful regarding this topic. Could
you please elobarate a bit more what -Bsymbolic does, why it is needed
and if it has any downsides.

 Hi,

this will avoid a kind of horrible bugs we have met with some GTK+ theme
 engines.

Let's say that libtrackerclient contains symbol foo - even if isn't part
of the public ABI. If there is a function named foo in a binary linked
to libtracker, calls to foo in other libtrackerclient functions will
instead use the binary's foo symbol.

If the client is directly linked to the library, this behavior is
desirable, so that foo can be overridden. If there is something wrong
with this override, it will fail in all cases and will be quickly
 spotted.

However, as the library is dlopen()ed, it has the potential to come in
the global symbol table of virtually any GTK+ application, but not all
the time. If for some reason, another binary has a symbol named foo
which has nothing to do with libtrackerclient's foo, it will be used
instead and will lead to bugs that are very hard to understand and
reproduce as the stack looks corrupt and the library is not always
 dlopen()ed.

This is why it is a good idea for *all* Pango and GTK+ plugins to be
linked with -Bsymbolic. This option guarantees that a function in
libtrackerclient that calls foo will obtain the function foo defined
 in libtrackerclient, nothing else.

There are also clients which directly link against libtrackerclient
(like nautilus or tracker-search-tool). Would this have a negative
effect for them?

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#438179: getaddrinfo() behaviour

2007-09-28 Thread Anthony Towns
So here's my understanding of where we're at.

First, fact finding. Everything here should be able to be agreed by
everyone.

getaddrinfo() is a new interface that replaces gethostbyname(). It
hasn't different semantics that are intended to make it superior
to gethostbyname() and other functions, both in supporting IPv6 and
potentially other ways (such as resolving foo.bar.com:http differently
to foo.bar.com:https).

The most authoritative document for how getaddrinfo() will order
its results is RFC3484, which is a Proposed Standard on the Internet
Standards Track and seems to be being implemented by the major vendors
including glibc and Windows.

The sorting behaviour of getaddrinfo() cannot be relied on in today's
Internet, and it behaves differently in different implementations --
particularly due to RFC3484 having been proposed only after getaddrinfo()
had already been in wide use. Further, RFC3484 specifically indicates
that the sorting behaviour may be overridden if a better order can be
determined locally (see the last paragraph of section 6). Beyond that,
determining optimal address selection appears to be an open area of
research, and modifications to RFC3484 are still being discussed and
proposed both within and outside of the RFC context [0].

Note that RFC4294 (IPv6 Node Requirements) indicates RFC3484 MUST be
implemented, at least in the context of dealing with multiple addresses.

The sorting behaviour specified in RFC3484 has not been in common
use within the IPv4-based Internet. Instead, by far the most common
behaviour has been to use the ordering presented by the DNS, usually
simply selecting the first returned result. This behaviour has allowed
client address selection to be influenced by the DNS system and thus the
provider of the service being addressed, as described in RFC 1794. This
has most commonly been implemented by having the DNS servers provide a
cyclic, round-robin selection of addresses, such that each address is
returned as the first result equally often.

This is not the only method for load balancing, though it is one of the
simplest and most easily deployed on today's Internet. Others include
giving entirely different results to different people doing DNS queries
such as described in the supersparrow architecture [1], or doing dynamic
load balancing of http queries via the 302 redirect response.

The primary expectations for load balancing are generally one or more of:
- that load be evenly distributed across hosts
- that load be biassed to the closest/cheapest host for the client
- that load distribution be controllable by the service provider

The prefix-matching procedure described in RFC3484 does not meet those
expectations in a number of cases.

First, responsibility for destination selection is assumed entirely by the
client, so that the only choice the service provider has is to list or
not list a host. As such the service provider is faced with a choice of
providing only the best servers to the client, and not giving the client
the possibility to failover to other servers that might be available;
or having the client select a server entirely on its own judgement.

Second, when NAT is in use, a relatively small range of prefixes (10/8,
192.168/16, 172.16/12 and potentially 169.254/16) will have a high
number of users, thus leading to a bias towards servers matching those
prefixes. Further, those prefixes by design do not bear any relationship
to their actual position in the network, removing the possibility of
the bias being towards close/cheap servers.

Third, when round-robin DNS is in use, the ordering procedure described
by RFC3484 will not ensure that all servers with the best matching
prefix are given equal time as the first address returned, but instead
may be biassed towards one address depending on the exact ordering of
the addresses presented by the server [2].

Each of these objections apply to the mechanism described in RFC3484
whether applied to IPv4 or IPv6 addresses.

In addition, with particular regard to IPv4 addresses, in the present
day Internet:

- round-robin DNS is normal
- NAT is extremely common
- the average prefix length in BGP tables is 22 [3], and
matches on shorter prefixes do not provide a strong correlation
  with locality

...

Is the above all reasonable and uncontroversial?

If so, conclusions that could potentially be drawn:

(a) Using prefix matching to select IPv4 addresses isn't useful
(b) Using prefix matching to select IPv4 addresses is harmful
(c) Using prefix matching to select IPv4 addresses is harmful enough to
be an RC issue for Debian
(d) Prefix matching IPv4 addresses provided the match is at least 22 bits
(or similar) might be reasonable
(e) Choosing the best address isn't a job for the client, and is better
left to the service provider and DNS system
(f) Given the existance of round-robin DNS, if prefix

Bug#444451: with-colons output does not include fpr for subkey-less keys

2007-09-28 Thread Werner Koch
Hi,

The reason for this is that you did not used --fixed-list-mode:

   Do not merge primary user ID and primary key in @option{--with-colon}
listing mode and print all timestamps as seconds since 1970-01-01.

--fixed-list-mode is required to fix a flaw in the original format of
the colon listing. It has been there since 1.0.5 (April 2001) and I
will enable this option by default for one of the next releases of gpg2.

messages helpful. Warning messages when running apt/aptitude on the
cache size reaching Cache-limit would be helpful, as well as the
suggestion to increase the Cache-limit when apt/aptitude fails due to
Cache-limit being too small.

Best of all would be to make it completely dynamic so that users don't
have to bother with Cache-limit at all.

It doesn't matter if I'm using the nv or nvidia driver. Using
xserver-xorg-core from testing (2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12 at the time of this
writing) X won't crash on the same presentation.

 I've attached the corresponding Xorg.0.log.

Looks like the pixman crash from the above URL.

Raphael Hertzog writes (Accepted dpkg 1.14.7~newshlib (source i386

 [stuff]

I'm very pleased to see all of this work being done on the Perl
scripts - I'm hoping for big compatibility improvements from Raphael's
shared library management changes.

But I did want to comment on this:
* After 'prerm remove' fails and while doing the error unwinding, if
the 'postinst abort-remove' call succeeds, preserve the old status
instead of unconditionally setting it to 'Installed'. Closes: #432893
  Thanks to Brian M. Carlson.

I don't think this change is correct. If the documentation wasn't
clear then it should have been clarified.

If the postinst abort-remove is executed and completes
successfully, the package should be regarded as installed.

NB that this can only happen if the package was previously at least
unpacked. The way that a package is moved from unpacked or
failed-config to installed is by running the postinst. That the
postinst is informed of the specific circumstances - aborted removal -
doesn't mean that it shouldn't do its job.

Ian.

Bug#444419: libpam-mount: umount fails and login count not decremented if last logout is done from 'su'

2007-09-28 Thread ingo
Package: libpam-mount
Version: 0.28-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

when logging in as root and then su-ing to a user account everything works fine.
But at logout the su-command seems to have dropped root privileges, so umount
fails.
The login count is not decremented.

The decrement of the login count does work if 'su' is not the last session
to go away (and thus no umount attempted). I suppose this is most often the
case.

Ah, and i noticed that when the mounting of the crypto loop device
fails (such as when root is guessing the wrong password when su-ing to
the user account) a loop device is leaked.
Anyway this setup is rather useless so i only would make another
detailed bug report if you want me to.

Regards, ingo

It was fixed on upstream version 0.27. It was released 2 years ago

Please update package, it is too old and buggy. Current upstreem

I'm sorry that I neglect that long time.

If you don't have enough time to maintain this package now, I
wish to take over this package or to be co-maintainer for it.

Thanks lot!
I'd like to ask you to take over the package...

Are there something I have to do for passing it to you?

Yep, that was the case, here is a link to the corresponding entry in the
 caml BTS: http://caml.inria.fr/mantis/view.php?id=3866 .

Apparently upstream do not care a lot about this issue, but I think the
final solution hinted by Richard is the right one: leave libcarmlrun.a
as it is and additionally provide a libcamlrun_shared.so which we can
use where PIC code is required.

Any comments / objection to add something like that to the ocaml package
 in Debian?

Richard: do you perhaps already have a patch for this in Red Hat?

No I don't actually. It's strange because I didn't hit this bug at
all when compiling ocamlnet for Fedora.

Unfortunately Fedora policy stops me from incorporating this fix:
http://caml.inria.fr/mantis/view.php?id=3866
into our OCaml. It would have to be accepted into upstream (INRIA's)
OCaml first.

But it's desperately needed, so please vote for INRIA to include it :-)

Bug#444394: filename completion does not allow arrow keys to be used

2007-09-28 Thread martin f krafft
Package: vim-latexsuite
Version: 20060325-4
Severity: minor

If I type \input{fF9 then latexsuite presents a new window with
files from the current directory, but unfortunately does not filter
them according to the leading f*, like it does for \cite and \ref
completion.

What's worse though is that I cannot use the arrow keys in the
directory view window. If I press down, the window closes and vim
executes OB (inserts a line with a B before the current one), which
is very reminiscent of the ancient compatible vi implementation,
although compatible is not set in the window. I can use the hjkl
keys as expected.

Please let me use the arrow keys too. And please pre-filter the list
according to the prefix.

Bug#444416: Searching for reports by eMail-address has case-sensitivity issues

2007-09-28 Thread Maik Zumstrull
Package: bugs.debian.org

Searching bdo for bugs submitted from a specific eMail-address currently
forces all addresses to lower-case.

Compare:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/[EMAIL PROTECTED]
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This behaviour is wrong. Two possible fixes:

1) Make the search case-insensitive. Technically not correct, but probably the
user-expected behaviour.
2) Keep the search case-sensitive, but compare to the actual submitter
address, instead of the all-lowercase version of it.

To avoid weird crashes caused by namespace conflicts, libtrackerclient

Hi,
as per Debian Perl Policy, the package should be named libmail-spf-perl.

You could join the Debian Perl Group, please take a look at

http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org

Maintaining a package in a team is easier than doing all the work all alone.

The source package would generate two binary packages: libmail-spf-perl
and spf-tools-perl, the latter of which would ship the executables
included with the Mail::SPF upstream package (currently spfquery and
 spfd).

This could let you name your package mail-spf-perl: there's a discussion about
this on [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Please take a look at the
archives. (In two words: one could name the source package other than lib*-perl
if it brings something other than the Perl Module -- as the spf-tools in this
case -- but not everyone agrees)

Kindly,
David

Bug#444400: vmware-package: examples needed in a manual and interoperation with module-assistant

2007-09-28 Thread Marius Mikucionis
Package: vmware-package
Version: 0.15
Severity: wishlist

Thanks for the nice packaging tool.
I am amased about the modularity and many features supporting many VMware
products,
but it was a quite cumbersome for the first time building vmware-server:
1) in order to get it working one needs several packages from various archives:
vmware-server, vmware-server-blobs, vmware-server-console and
vmware-server-kernel-modules.
This is not abvious, hard to remember and is not documented anywhere.
Moreover the sequence of downloading, building and installing various packages
is important
(i.e. one cannot install vmware-server without installing
vmware-server-kernel-modules
which cannot be built if vmware-server-kernel-source is not installed).

2) module-assistant is not mentioned anywhere (had to google a bit to discover
this,
even though I knew it for nvidia modules).

3) the target name vmware-server-kernel for module-assistant is hard to
remember
(I allways try vmware-kernel and wonder why it does not work), moreover
vmware-server-kernel is not mentioned in the list of module-assistant modules.

To fix all these, I suggest adding a sequence of example commands in the
make-vmpkg
manual with correct order. I realize that this is hard to cover all possible
combinations,
but at least one example clearifying possible dependencies and solutions would
be of great
help.

Thanks!

Bug#351962: aterm: copypaste fails with firefox and non-ASCII characters

2007-09-28 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
can you please test if this bug still persists in 1.0.1?
1.0.1 should have a bugfix for high ascii characters so I
hope this has been fixed.
Kind regards
Nico

Also, moving your ~/.purple directory out of the way and trying again
might help, as will attaching the output of pidgin -d.

I've attached the output of pidgin - d as pidgin.out. I already had
libgtk2.0-0 installed. The debug build doesn't help as pidgin exits
normally without crashing. It just doesn't display a window and exits.

Bug#443647: xkb-data missing some characters in gurmukhi (gur) keymap

Thanks for the patch. The line change for the character 0A5C works (for

CTRL-, CTRL+ALT, and these two keys on the right hand side of the space
  bars. None worked.

Please could you test and find the correct fix, so that I can forward it
 upstream?

I just tested your fix. The problem with the unicode character 0A5C was
already resolved. Now the character 0A571 works too.

I just had to specify the keyboard modifier key in KDE's layout applet.
Perviously, no key was configured as the 'third level chooser' in the Xkb
option in the applet configuration. I chose Menu key to be the third level
chooser and now I can put addak (ੱ), key 0A571, successfully: Menu + key B02
(x key in US keyboard) gives A571 in guru variant of in layout.

As an aside, I would like to point out that the two keyboard keys to which I
suggested the mapping of the two characters are just what I guessed should
be. I am not aware of any standard based on which the keys should be
assigned to the characters.

thanks for all your help,
-HS

Bug#444134: incorrect icon fields in Debian menu directories

Located the bug. It is in menu-xdg but not in the icon fileds.
  /var/lib/menu-xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu refers to *.directory files
with spaces in their file names, e.g.
  debian-applications-data management.directory
but the file names in /var/lib/menu-xdg/desktop-directories/menu-xdg
have spaces where debian-menu.menu uses spaces.

I mean hyphens. Sorry for the typo.

Thanks a lot! I was so blind not seeing the hyphens.

Could you try the package below before I upload it ?

I removed it immediately before starting and it still does the same thing.

Bug#444360: ocamlnet_2.2.8.1-3(hppa/experimental): FTBFS: tries to link non-PIC static object into shared object

Aaaarggh, right! IIRC that's an upstream issue for which exists a patch
(by Richard Jones maybe ...), isn't it? What about applying it in the
 OCaml Debian package?

Yep, that was the case, here is a link to the corresponding entry in the
caml BTS: http://caml.inria.fr/mantis/view.php?id=3866 .

Apparently upstream do not care a lot about this issue, but I think the
final solution hinted by Richard is the right one: leave libcarmlrun.a
as it is and additionally provide a libcamlrun_shared.so which we can
use where PIC code is required.

Any comments / objection to add something like that to the ocaml package
in Debian?

Richard: do you perhaps already have a patch for this in Red Hat?

What happens if you rename your ~/.purple directory?

Please install the pidgin-dbg and libgtk2.0-0 packages, and get a

Also, moving your ~/.purple directory out of the way and trying again
might help, as will attaching the output of pidgin -d.

I've attached the output of pidgin - d as pidgin.out. I already had
libgtk2.0-0 installed. The debug build doesn't help as pidgin exits
normally without crashing. It just doesn't display a window and exits.
