Bug#446569: gforge: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-10-13 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: gforge
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Monday, September 03, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for gforge.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading gforge with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Wednesday, October 17, 2007,
when I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Wednesday, November 07, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed
or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around , I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#443532: heimdal: General update after the debconf review process

2007-10-13 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Friday, September 07, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning of
a review
action on debconf templates for heimdal.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Friday, September 07, 2007. If your package was
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Applied. As well as the greek_subdivisions patch.

Now you can translate them into Greek..:-)

PS: as you're apparently a French speaker as well, some help in the

Bug#446567: kqemu-common: Group for handling access to /dev/kqemu

2007-10-13 Thread Andree Leidenfrost
Package: kqemu-common
Version: 1.3.0~pre11-6.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi Daniel,

It would be great if you could consider creating a new group 'kqemuusers' in
package kqemu-common and making

crw-rw 1 root kqemuusers 250, 0 2007-10-14 15:18 /dev/kqemu

I noticed this is what package virtualbox-ose does and find it really easy to
use. For example, I can use Gnome's 'Users and Groups' applet to give access
rights to using virtualbox. It would be cool if I could do the same with kqemu.

Thanks a lot & best regards,
Andree

Unless something has changed (again) between the version of udev that
you have and the version that I have, this would not seem to be the
reason for what you are seeing... it works just fine here for me.

Does `udevcontrol reload_rules` help you?

Bug#390029:

2007-10-13 Thread Michael Gilbert
$ mount /cdrom

$ mount | grep cdrom
/dev/hdb on /media/cdrom0 type udf (ro,noexec,nosuid,nodev)

$ ./disc-test /dev/hdb
/dev/hdb contains a Audio CD

$ ./disc-test /dev/cdrom
/dev/cdrom contains a Audio CD

$ ./disc-test /media/cdrom0/
/media/cdrom0/ contains a DVD
URL for directory is dvd:///media/cdrom0/

looks like "disc-test" is incorrectly detecting the dvd as an audio
disc when using the device files, and correctly detecting the dvd as a
dvd when using the mount point. anything else i can do to help?

Hi,

The packaging for this will be done tomorrow. One of the open bugs required a
code change which wasn't released until last weekend when I was out of town,
followed by a busy week this past week. When I originally was contacted
regarding these packages, I made the code change and checked with our lead
developer to see when he wanted our next release. I was told it would be 2-3
days so I delayed uploading an updated package so that it could include the
latest version. Obviously that didn't happen, but every time I asked when it
would be released, it was just going to be another couple of days. In any
case, I do apologize for the delay but I had been trying to avoid
unnecessarily wasting time updating the package only to do so again a couple
of days later.

Wes, I haven't received any emails from you beyond the first couple we
exchanged three weeks ago. I'll double check to make sure they weren't
misfiled by my filters, but nothing came up when I just did a quick check.

Regards,
Ervin

Bug#429226: Debian xmonad packages

2007-10-13 Thread A. Christine Spang
Hey,

I gave your packages a whirl since I'm an xmonad user and have just been
building in my home directory for the time being, and things seem to
work fairly well so far. I like how you've put in the thought to design
a package system so that users who want to customize xmonad (probably
most of them given the intended audience) don't have to abandon the
Debian packages.

One thing that seems vaguely sketchy to me is using ~/.xmonad/xmonad as
the default location for custom-built binaries. Dot directories are
intended for configuration, and it seems very weird to put binaries
there. I would prefer ~/bin/xmonad, personally. However, these are just
my personal thoughts.

Anyhow, I haven't done extensive testing but for the most part I like
what I see so far. :) Are you planning on packaging common xmonad
accessories like e.g. dzen2 and xmobar as well?

Cheers,
Christine

Bug#446556: openswan installation takes a very long time without any warning

2007-10-13 Thread Uwe Storbeck
Package: openswan
Version: 1:2.4.6+dfsg.2-1.1

The key generation during the openswan installation took more than 40
minutes on my system without any warning. The installation hung between
the following two lines:

  Setting up openswan (2.4.6+dfsg.2-1.1) ...

No CPU time was used and it looked like the postinstall script hangs.
A lot of other packages already warn you if a step takes only some
seconds, so openswan should print a warning that this step can take a
very long time.

Bug#446555: dovecot: please provide mechanism to discover if ssl client certificate is verified

2007-10-13 Thread Stephen Gran
Package: dovecot
Version: 1.0.5-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi there,

I have an (admittedly baroque) authentication mechanism for LDAP, with
some users being system users and some being in LDAP, although in many
possible trees. In order to handle this reasonably smoothly, I've
written an auth helper script.

I am trying to transition to SSL based auth for at least the system
users, but I've found this to be impossible for now. There is currently
a mechanism to fail authentication for users that prevent an invalid
client cert, which is good, but too strong for my needs. I'd like to
just allow verified clients to log in without sending a password if they
have a working cert.

Ideally, I'd like to do this by checking an environment variable in the
script (SSL_CLIENT_VERIFIED ?) and proceeding without an auth check.
Admittedly, the client will still need to send something to proceed from
the master to the auth process, but I could at least get down to sending
USER '' and PASS '', and just get the CN out the cert.

Perhaps this is just a crazy idea, but it seems reasonable at the
moment.

Thanks,

svn-inject is in a better shape that it ever was.

The new package still hasn't the version number bumped and it can be found at
the same location:

http://users.alioth.debian.org/~eddyp-guest/upload/svn-buildpackage_0.6.22-experimental/

Or you can dget it directly:
http://users.alioth.debian.org/~eddyp-guest/upload/svn-buildpackage_0.6.22-experimental/svn-buildpackage_0.6.22.dsc

Please test and report. If everything is ok, I'll make the proper adjustments
and ask for an upload to experimental (due to the big number of changes made in
this release).

Also, I want to apologize for the delay of this release.

Bug#446552: keyjnote is unusable slow

2007-10-13 Thread Torsten Wiebke
Package: keyjnote

Severity: important

Hallo,
I have a AMD Athlon with 2 GHz. Keyjnote is with a 248KB PDF
presentation so slow that it is not possible to present it by this
programm.
I think the idea of the programm is great but it has to be mor quick. Is
there a possibility to fasten it?
Thanks,

Hi !

Thanks for the report, but this certainly not a serious bug.

Current roundcube works with current db-config, so there's no bug.

If you need a proper dependency for your backports, do it there.

Bug#446551: amarok: Amarok causes bursts of high CPU usage in X-server

2007-10-13 Thread Shai Berger
Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.7-1+b1
Severity: normal

While using Amarok to manage podcasts episodes on my MP3 player, I noticed
bursts of high CPU usage (I have noisy fans to alert me of this). When I
investigated, I found that the process responsible is the X server. Now,
Amarok was essentially idle -- I wasn't playing any music, just transfering
already-downloaded episodes to the player.

I think -- but can't be sure -- that the bursts were synchronised with
the "wave" Amarok puts in the visualization area every few seconds (when
there's no music and no visualization set). Each such burst sent the
X server to a couple of seconds of 100% CPU usage.

The one thing I am really sure of (and I tested again while writing the
bug) is that these bursts startes when I started Amarok, and stopped when
I quit it.

Hamish Moffatt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (14/10/2007):

I'm sorry for that. I'm usually tempted to make the packages I upload
lintian-clean, which is often required, or at least strongly recommended
by the sponsors.

Since last upload happened in 2006, and since the maintainer didn't
answer on an RC bug, I thought that a bit of help would be welcome,
which is the purpose of an NMU.

Again, sorry for being so intrusive, but I didn't encounter any
reticence about my previous patches &| NMU until now (I was given green
light several times), and I'm not that confident about separating the
fixes for only-important-bugs in several patches, and posting them on
individual bugs where there's been no answer for hundreds of days, even
when the patch is already included (I'm not speaking of this bug, or of
this package, or of this maintainer in particular, just a general remark
on the RC bugs I already looked at/worked on).

Shall we open bugs for each and every problem encountered, with
individual patch, and then check them regularly through the QA? Or fix
them all while we're at it, and then be slapped by the maintainer, and
eventually some of them reverted or fixed in a different way? I took the
second road until now, increasing my blame counter from 0 to 1.

ACK. I must confess I don't even remember why I did that this way…

Bug#446550: mysql is not ipv6-aware

2007-10-13 Thread Steve Langasek
Source: mysql-dfsg-5.0
Version: 5.0.45-1
Severity: important
Tags: upstream ipv6

The current version of mysql apparently doesn't support IPv6 at all. The
5.0.32 (etch) server I have running only listens on IPv4 sockets, and
libmysqlclient 5.0.45 uses gethostbyname_r() to look up hostnames, which is
not IPv6-aware.

I don't know if mysql 5.1 in experimental does any better with this, but it
would be nice to have IPv6 support in mysql for lenny; IPv6 is not just for
in front of the firewall. :)

Admittedly I don't use MSN through pidgin that often but I just turned
it on and its sitting there working through its third song with no
problems at all.

What version of pidgin are you running and also what other plugins are
you running? I've got about 5 different protocols running.
My pidgin is version 2.2.1-1
I've got libnotify popups and musictracker enabled.

Thanks for your NMU Cyril. However I think the above is excessive for a
simple FTBFS NMU for an otherwise maintained package.

For example the Makefile.{am,in} COPYING change: this is purely
cosmetic. I disagree that your solution is the best; maintaining patches
to upstream sources is a nuisance, while fixing things up afterwards in
debian/rules is easier.

Bug#418596: nfs-common: Can not nfs-mount using second interface during boot

2007-10-13 Thread Roberto C . Sánchez
Hi,

I just got bit by #418596. In my case, my NFS server is on an RFC1918
subnet off one interface and my nameservers are in the public network
off the other interface. For some reason, no matter what order the
intrfaces come up, the NFS mounting hangs. So, I have set the NFS
mounts noauto and just mount them in rc.local.

I'm not crazy about that solution, but I also agree that trying to fix
this in stable is probably overkill and too risky.

Regards,

-Roberto

packages if done right).

Bug#411676: package adoption progress

2007-10-13 Thread Raphael Geissert
Hello Franz,

Has there been any progress in the adoption of this package?
I'm looking forward the new 1.4.x version so I can package a program.

If you are not interested anymore in adopting it, sending the following
commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it:

retitle 411676 O: geoip -- A non-DNS IP-to-country resolver library
thanks

Note that this is just a QA ping, I'm not interested in adopting it myself.

Duh, but still a bug in openoffice:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ set | grep MALLOC
MALLOC_PERTURB_=11854

If I unset MALLOC_PERTURB_, openoffice behaves fine. So it seems
ooqstart is using uninitialized memory somewhere (and I completely
forgot I had this env variable set).

Bug#446546: geoip: should this package be orphaned?

2007-10-13 Thread Raphael Geissert
Package: geoip
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Hi,

While attempting to package a program I've noticed this package's version is
old and more and more programs require the 1.4.x version of the library.
There's also a security-related bug report which is almost one year old (fixed
by a NMU from the security team).
Because of these reasons I think this package should be orphaned.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: --
thanks

For more information, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-archive-manip
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Thank you,

Which is of course a wrong bug number in the changelog, gpredict/444514
instead of grig/444509. Sorry for the noise.

Bug#444518: "embedded code copies"

2007-10-13 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Hi.

(The following is just some not-so-random bits of a Debian maintainer,
interested by tracking release-critical bugs. Neither the maintainer of
ardour, or a member of Debian's Security Team.)

Paul Davis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (13/10/2007):
> i would like to make it clear that if Debian attempts to distribute a
> version of Ardour that builds without internal linkage, we (the ardour

> problems of any kind.

That's why the Debian Bug Tracking System (BTS) is for.

> we have notified Gentoo of the same thing, and have so far had to tell

Depending on the package and on the maintainers, but usually if a
package gets a lot of bugs reported, one can easily add a -dbg package
so that the backtraces are meaningful. That's also the case for the
depended-upon libraries.

> while i understand the theoretical and practical reasons for your

I guess I can understand that, but just direct the $distro users to the
$distro bug tracker.

> even on systems like debian, where theoretically the system copies of

Then, either they are to blame because they are doing bad things w/o the
appropriate knowledge. Or there's a bug in the packages they are using,
in which case a bug of the appropriate severity should be opened on the
Debian BTS.

> the embedded version of libsndfile exists because we have patched
> libsndfile and thus far erik (libsndfile's author) has not accepted
> our patches.

Then I guess the Debian maintainers of ardour might know about that and
talk to the Debian maintainers of libsndfile. Being a maintainer is also
about talking with other maintainers, not just pushing a new package for
each upstream release — which happens, sadly.

> far more people follow ardour.org for support issues than go to
> debian-specific channels, and we will not be railroaded into silently

> compiler with the same compile-time flags.

Again, either the users are doing something bad, or there's a bug in
$distro, which shall be reported. And that happens. A lot. And we —
either the maintainers, or people doing QA globally — fix them.

Cheers,

Options for setting a background image, as referenced in README.Debian
(-x -y -z) are missing. None of them appears in the documentation or in
the help message from the command line and they all get recognized as
invalid options by the binary. Option -x used to be available in
the sarge package, which was the same upstream version and all of
them are now available in lenny, so the problem seems to be specific
to the etch package.

The bug is there if I use ucs.sty and it goes away when I switch

ucs.sty in and use utf8,utf8x as argument to the inputenc package.

Package: libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio

The pulseaudio specific package for libsdl (libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio)
does not appear to work at all. Using libsdl1.2debian-all and specifying
SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulse on the command line, however, works just fine.

As an example, this works just fine with libsdl1.2debian-all installed:

Using libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio gives the following error:

Bug#446536: xfce4-panel: Dies with SIGSEGV on "Remove Panel"

2007-10-13 Thread Simon Walter

Package: xfce4-panel
Version: 4.4.1-1
Severity: normal

If you remove a panel with the Panel Manager xfce4-panel crashs
with a segmentation fault afterwards. The panel is removed, but the
redraw or what ever the Panel Manager does, fails.

If you restart xfce4-panel by hand, the removed panel is gone and
everything is fine.

Bug#446534: package short description is missing !

2007-10-13 Thread Vincent Fourmond
Package: sshguard
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: normal

  Hello,

While browsing the new packages, I found sshguard, and I was struck that the
short description doesn't make any sense:

Protects networked hosts from the today's widespread

  What does that mean ???

Keep in mind that the first line of the Description field is the short
description, and it should be self-consistent. Something like that
would be much better:

Description: protects against brute-force SSH attacks
sshguard protects networked hosts from the today's widespread
brute force attacks against ssh servers. It detects such attacks
and blocks the author's address with a firewall rule.

  Regards,

Vincent
