Still, you are the maintainer, so you are the one supposed to find a way
to fix it ... Have you tried contacting the people who could help you?
Like the X.org team, or the upstream author?

If the bug only affects a small number of systems, you also have the
solution to downgrade its severity until you can figure out exactly
what's needed to reproduce it...

Last time I tried skippy, it was very slow. So, on machines where
compositing doesn't work reasonably fast, skippy is also probably very
slow...

Fine, but please try to fix the problems: the package hasn't migrated to
testing for over a year and wasn't included in etch. There's not much
point in keeping in Debian if it's broken...

Yeah, I know. It *is* on my todo list and will hopefully be looked at in
the next few days. As you probably know, I've just returned from my
vacation, so I'm still settling in again. Be warned, though, I'll spend
time on all other Gtk2-Perl packages before looking at this FTBFS
(especially the unfiled FTBFS of libgnome2-wnck-perl with libwnck22)

It's probably a removal candidate in the long run because upstream
support is, ehm, simply isn't there. And FWIW, I'm not really insulted
if you poke when I ignore a problem for too long, I do know that I'm
currently not spending enough time to get all things done.

Bug#443648: openslp: General update after the debconf review process

2007-10-14 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, September 05, 2007, I sent you a notification about the beginning
of a review
action on debconf templates for openslp.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch-nopo file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s).

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Wednesday, September 05, 2007. If your package
was updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this.

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to
fix this.

Bug#446254: Korean translations for ISO-3166

Quoting Sunjae Park ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

> Hello Christian. Thanks for letting us know. I have attached an updated

> will this be imported upstream?

Pretty easily. Debian *is* upstream for iso-codes.

So, as soon as we apply this change, it is included in upstream.

iso-codes translations are both available to Debian translators
(through the normal package distribution system which makes everybody
entitled to sumit trranslationsas long as they don't conflict with
existing ones) and Translation Project translators.

We try to maintain consistency between both...which works pretty well.

Bug#446724: SAME SITUATION - initramfs-tools: creates broken initramfs image as reported on Bug #445688

2007-10-14 Thread Miguel Martins Feitosa Filho
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.90a
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hi,

I have the same situation described by Beojan in one of my boxes but
not the other two - all three are debian testing.
His solution - yaird - also worked for me.
Reading the bug report I came about an interesting point in
that the phrases below do not apply to me as my systems always were/are
debian:

"
i'm sorry but your initramfs-tools is not from debian,
we _never_ shipped with an modprobe -Q argument in those boot scripts.
"

"
>You may wish to know that I switched to Debian from Feisty using
> dist-upgrade, and udev
> didn't get upgraded.
"

A call to
egrep -r modprobe /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/
shows some modprobe commands, all are without options such as:

tatarana:/etc/default# egrep -r modprobe
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/ | head -2
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/ps3:modprobe
ps3_storage
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-premount/ps3:modprobe gelic_net

I run apt-get dist-upgrade regularly on these systems.
Yesterday - oct 14 2007 - I brought all three up to date.
Only one maintained the problem. The other two booted ok with new
2.6.22-2 kernel.
My systems differ only in installed packages and initial install date.
I do not get any deb files outside of apt.
At the end of this message is my sources.list for reference.

My current initramfs is also 0.90a.
tatarana:~# ls /var/cache/apt/archives/ | grep initram
initramfs-tools_0.89_all.deb
initramfs-tools_0.90a_all.deb
initramfs-tools_0.90_all.deb

Since apt installed kernel 2.6.21-2 on my system I get the
"Waiting for root filesystem" at boot time error.

What is amazing is that my other two boxes have also up to date kernels
and
never had this problem.

I initially reported this error as a kernel error but was unable to do a
good follow-up on it. I imagined that as the kernel evolved the problem
would dissapear. Since it did not I resumed trying to figure out the
situation. Beojan's report reproduced my error.

His modprobe -Q explanation though does not seem to apply to my
computer.

I hope a comparision of my three systems will help in finding the cause
of this problem.

Thanks for your help, I am available to supply any necessary
information.

Bug#446700: hal: /etc/init.d/hal starts with user 113 and not haldaemon

It is well known that ps does not display user names which are longer
than 8 characters, so this is perfectly normal.

Those ar group IDs, not user IDs. It is perfectly valid for user and
group IDs to not be identical, and in fact this is the common case.
Can you please do

  id haldaemon

and check whether the UID there is actually 113?

Bug#446719: sane: Scanner group addition is not handled

2007-10-14 Thread Josef Spillner
Package: sane
Version: 1.0.14-4
Severity: normal

After the installation of sane, there was no choice given to add any
user to the scanner group. Instead, I had to figure out the name of the
group first (as I thought it'd be saned first) and then add myself with
vigr/vigr -s. The package should somehow inform about it.
At the very minimum, there should be a README.Debian entry about it.
A better choice would be generic Debian way of letting the user add
logins to the group which handles the most common situation (single-user
machines) without annoying those who have hundreds of users.

How to promote group additions to currently running processes (i.e.
within the user's session) is probably not possible without kernel
modifications. However, such modifications should be advocated
medium-term for increased user friendlyness, it affects many packages
which add groups at installation time. Maybe a wiki page is in order
(didn't check this yet).

To summarise, most of the info contained in this report is probably
wishlist (want to hear feedback first), but at least the missing
README.Debian entry is of higher severity and should be fixed soon.

Sorry, i got stalled at "missing manpage", ie. the package is ready
and working, i just need to write and include a manpage, which
shouldn't take much, but still. If anyone has a workable manpage, i'd
be happy to take it and upload this week. Otherwise, i still try to
make it this week, but i cannot promise...

Bug#231116: how to implement without changing gdb

2007-10-14 Thread Peter Moulder
I too dislike the idea of gdb unconditionally setting a particular
environment variable. My first suggestion is that if you want to do this,
then do

   alias gdb='IN_GDB=yes gdb'

Note that both with this implementation and the implementation proposed
by the submitter, it only works for processes initiated by gdb, not when
one uses gdb to attach to an existing process.

I suggest that the program test this variable only on startup, and set a
variable, and subsequently test that variable rather than call getenv.
This isn't just about efficiency, this is to cover the attach case: when
attaching to a program, you can do

  p in_gdb = 1

and then

  p in_gdb = 0

when detaching.

See section ‘User-defined command hooks’ in the gdb manual
(http://www.delorie.com/gnu/docs/gdb/gdb_190.html) for how to have these
happen automatically every time you attach or detach the program.

(See also section ‘Command files’ for description of .gdbinit
processing, and section ‘User-defined commands’ for the general
syntax for defining functions in gdb. If you implement this, then I
suggest posting the resulting .gdbinit file/fragment to this bug report
for the benefit of anyone else looking at this bug report and wanting to
do the same thing.)

Finally, if you really want to test for being debugged without help from
.gdbinit files or any other user help, man ptrace and see what it says
about how gdb becomes effectively the parent for many purposes. If
using Linux, then man 5 proc and look at the descriptions of the stat
and status files. However, I don't recommend this: it's harder to
implement than .gdbinit files, and it probably only serves to mystify
the person using the debugger rather than help them.

I suggest closing this bug.

1) It seems that /usr/bin/aplay is in the package alsa-utils. I don't
use it because I don't have an ALSA system. Is aplay better that sox
   on an ALSA system?
2) Do you need libsox-fmt-alsa if you have aplay?
3) I don't think both libsox-fmt-oss and libsox-fmt-alsa are needed
on one system. One of them will be enough.
4) If the right library is installed, does sox work without an additional
   command line option?

Okay, I poked at this some more and a bunch of the noise was due to a bug
in the lintian check leading it to not check desktop entries of an unknown
type. I've now fixed that, which should help a lot.

The kruler applnk desktop file still will produce errors, but it still
looks rather broken to me.

It may be that going forward, we'll have to have a blessed list of
directories in which desktop files should be checked and ignore any
outside those directories, but let's see how matters go with the next
upload. It should be quite a bit better and at least reduce the problem
to a dull roar.

I've just submitted it to Andrew and it should be in 2.6.24. I don't
think it warrants a patch to 2.6.23.y.

Bug#446718: foomatic-gui: Fails to detect network printer

2007-10-14 Thread Jerry Quinn
Package: foomatic-gui
Version: 0.7.7
Severity: normal

I thought I would try the automatic gui printer config to do an
initial setup of my Dell 1815dn network postcript printer. This
printer supports every network printing standard I'm aware of, but
autodetect does nothing.

I assume this is likely due to underlying cups losage, but am starting

Well, the package kdegraphics produces no warnings at all. But I assume
that you actually meant the binary packages generated by the kdegraphics
source package. (It just took me a moment to figure out what you were
talking about.)

I can, but I'd like to understand why KDE is generating so many invalid
desktop files. For example, the kruler applnk desktop file contains
essentially nothing at all and looks completely pointless. What is that
file actually accomplishing? Does it need to be installed? And if it's
supposed to be there, why doesn't it have the mandatory Type and Name
entries? They aren't always missing from applnk files; other packages do
provide them.

It's not clear to me that these aren't actual bugs in the desktop files
that have just gone undiagnosed because no one has checked the desktop
files against the desktop standard.

The next release of lintian will deal with X- categories and Actions keys,
which should significantly reduce the warnings that you see. Maybe you
could take a look at what's left and check with the KDE upstream and see
if the desktop standard really is wrong?

Bug#428186: Breaking packages is not ok.

2007-10-14 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Brandon schrieb:

Severity: serious
Justification: makes package unusable (by its dependencies)

bumping SONAMES is a good thing for often needed packages and if
upstream provides SONAME support, I will include it.

That is good.

The current solution (with conflicts) is okay.

No, it is not. You break every package that depends on guichan every
time you upgrade. Fixing this is too much to ask of those maintainers.
You have forced balder2d and sear out of testing.

I have asked debian mentors about this last month. I sent you a link to
the thread archive a while ago. Here it is again, in case you didn't
get around to reading it:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2007/09/msg00223.html
They recommended that bugs such as this be kept as serious or grave.

I think the best way to fix this would be to only include a static
library. It is sort of like washing your hands of the issue. I would
also recommend not upgrading the version more than once a year, unless
a new upstream version fixes a glaring bug.

If compiling statically, depending packages will still break when the
API changes, and it has changed before. I am not sure how acceptable
this is. You could fix it by following upstream's recommendation, which
would equate to not having a guichan package at all. Depending programs
would instead include the guichan source.

If you need advice on what to do next, I recommend writing to the
debian-mentors mailing list. You can learn more here:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/

-Brandon

Good morning,

please stop now changing every hour the severity, that's kind of playing
and stops us from work.

If you read for what is the testing and unstable pool, then you would
know, that such kind of things are OK, because we don't break anything
with the new package names and if a author doesn't upgrade his package
after some weeks, then it is his problem.
Michael Koch (sear maintainer) is my sponsor (he's a DD) and he knows
exactly every upgrade and in his opinion it's the best solution for guichan.
If you want a very clear pool, stop using testing and unstable and use
Debian Stable (Etch).

Hi,

Please, find attached the Brazilian Portuguese translation for
the wacom-tools package. It is UTF-8 encoded, tested with msgfmt and
podebconf-display-po.

I'm sorry for the delay, I hope pt_BR can still get included
in the next upload. :)

Bug#276948: package 'vncserver' should be removed from amd64

Where does it fail to build? The package is up to date on all archs.

"Not working" is a problem, of course, and is what the cited bug report
talks about.

> Because of this I propose to be removed from unstable (and automatically
> from lenny). Maybe the 'vnc' source package should be removed along with
> all the binary packages built from this?

Why, what's wrong with the other binary packages built from the vnc source?

Anyway, debian-release is not the right place to propose such a removal.
Binary-only package removals need to go through the package maintainer or,
at least, an NMUer; only once the source package is fixed up wrt this
removal should the binary removal be requested through the ftp team.

As a first step, let's fix the severity of the bug. This should have been
RC all along - amd64 is not our only 64-bit architecture, so if vncserver is
not 64-bit-clean, that needs to be dealt with (one way or another) instead
of leaving broken binaries in the archive.

> The same package(s) is(are) included in the stable/etch release. Is it
> possible to remove a package after the release?

Yes, though of course fixing the package would be far preferable.

Thanks,

Oh, sorry, never mind. I see now. This actually is another (subtle)
manifestation of the same bug and should now be fixed.

I've fixed both of these for the next release. They were two very
different problems (the first because the doc-base code chases links and
wasn't doing it properly for hard links, and the second because tar
reports hard links as empty). lintian in general does try to handle hard
links, so I don't think there are any general structural problems. If you
run into any other mistaken warnings, please do submit additional bugs.

You are going to have to be more specific for lintian to be taught to tell
that, since the package build infrastructure itself certainly doesn't
require that python-all be installed for the clean target. :) What
specific program are you running or action are you taking in the clean
target that requires python? lintian tries to detect such usages, so I
need to know what it's missing.

If you run it at all, yes. However, given that this transition was

probably to just remove any reference to it entirely.

Hm, nothing that I can think of. I'll add that. Thanks!

OK. Changing the package name since we don't still want to be dragging
around a 3.4 release of Shorewall when Lenny releases. This package
will provide the upgrade path to those who are using the current
shorewall 3.x packages.

It's only superseeded by skippy-xd on systems where composite runs
reasonably fast, witch is only a little share of all.

I've been thinking about orphaning/removing skippy, but I still feel

This is most likely a bug in hal.
Please install libsmbios-bin and edit
/usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-killswitch-get-power-linux

and change the path /usr/bin/dellWirelessCtl to
/usr/sbin/dellWirelessCtl.

Please let me know if this fixes your problem.

Bug#446705: libimlib2: imlib_get_text_size() and imlib_text_draw_with_return_metrics() return different width

2007-10-14 Thread Robert Smeikal
Package: libimlib2
Version: 1.3.0.0debian1-4
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

imlib_get_text_size(..) and imlib_text_draw_with_return_metrics(..) return
different width when the text to be drawn contains
characters with code points not supported by the current font. i used utf-8
encoded text with 2-byte characters (cyrillic), i.e.
code point 0x0439, corresponding bytes d0b9. when a font is loaded with support
for the code points, the two functions return the
same width, otherwise imlib_text_draw_with_return_metrics(..) returns the
correct value, whereas imlib_get_text_size(..) returns a
small number (e.g. 17) which seems to be uncorrelated with the text.

The list that you found in the archive doesn't show any variation in case.
I'd rather make the test as restrictive as possible to avoid false
positives, so for right now I'm just checking for Thumbs.db and
Thumbs.db.gz. If you do see ones with a variation in case, let me know.

Note that u->file contains just the "file" portion of the URL, so should
generally contain the same thing as whatever's past the final / in u->url.

What things is it "often wrong" about for crawling?

Bug#381128: argouml: That works, but then menu launcher doesn't

2007-10-14 Thread Jude Anthony
Package: argouml
Version: 0.19.6-2.1
Followup-For: Bug #381128

I have several versions of the JVM installed; I started with gij, and
that wasn't found, either. I used update-alternatives to set that to
the Sun JVM, and that works if I set the environment variable JAVA_HOME
by hand.

However, the menu launcher silently fails in either case. From the
command line, I get the "set JAVA_HOME" error mentioned above.

For reference:
$ sudo update-alternatives --list java
/usr/lib/j2sdk1.4-sun/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java
/etc/alternatives/kaffe-system/bin/java

Sorry, I actually thought I had written about it in the previous mail.

It wasn't set in stone, but as I wanted to do an -rc1 today, I thought
it was worth adding it just in case.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to report and following this up. If you
have any further bugs, questions or comments, please let me know.

Bug#418500: doesn't work with authdaemond but works with proftdp (Etch)

2007-10-14 Thread Stepan Ton
I am using pam-mysql authentication for both ftp and email in Etch, and
with proftpd it works just fine, while for email (courier - authdaemond)
it doesn't work.

Maybe the bug is actualy in authdaemon (or maybe some PAM clients in
general) related rather then PAM itself? Or it works with proftpd just
because it uses pam-mysql only in the "auth" stanza, but not in the
"account" stanza (see the config files below for details)?

The already mentioned LD_PRELOAD export hack in
/etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon solves the problem, but it's nasty.

Failure log entries:
Oct 15 01:36:44 tallis authdaemond: PAM unable to
dlopen(/lib/security/pam_mysql.so)
Oct 15 01:36:44 tallis authdaemond: PAM [dlerror:
/lib/security/pam_mysql.so: undefined symbol: pam_get_item]
Oct 15 01:36:44 tallis authdaemond: PAM adding faulty module:
/lib/security/pam_mysql.so

Packages versions:
courier-authdaemon 0.58-4
libpam-mysql 0.6.2-1

related libpam config files:
/etc/pam.d/proftpd (Works fine despite it uses pam-mysql!):
auth required pam_mysql.so user=pamuser passwd=pampass host=127.0.0.1
db=userdb table=ftp usercolumn=username passwdcolumn=password crypt=1
account required pam_mysql.so user=pamuser passwd=pampass host=127.0.0.1
db=userdb table=ftp usercolumn=username passwdcolumn=password crypt=1
auth required pam_listfile.so item=user sense=deny
file=/etc/ftpusers onerr=succeed

/etc/pam.d/imap (same as pop3, doesn't work due to the bug):
auth required /lib/security/pam_warn.so
auth required pam_mysql.so user=pamuser passwd=pampass host=127.0.0.1
db=userdb table=email usercolumn=username passwdcolumn=password crypt=1
account required pam_unix.so

Your point, anyway you're the upstream ;-)

Thank you for the explanation.

And after considering your point, this is fine as well.

I just discovered that you fixed this upstream with patch:
=
Sun Oct 14 17:42:34 CEST 2007 Alberto Bertogli <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
  * Add /etc/darcsweb after '.' in sys.path.

Add it second place, so it goes after '.' but before the normal path. This
allows per-directory config files (desirable for multiple darcsweb
installations on the same machin), and avoids name clashing if there's a
  config.py in the standard path.

This was reported by Philipp Kern <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> in Debian bug 399751
  (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=399751).
=

Thus, I accordingly tagged the bug.

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Bug#428186: Breaking packages is not ok.

2007-10-14 Thread Brandon

To unexport /tv01, you would need to individually unexport each of
those export. Or edit /etc/exports to remove those lines and
   exportfs -r

No, it would not export anything as that is asking to stop exporting
it to the wildcard host (matches anything) and it is not currently
exported to the wildcard host.

No. You cannot currently export a filesystem. You can only unexport
an 'export' which is a host:filesystem combination.

If you
  exportfs -f ; umount /tv01
there is a chance that a request will arrive between the two, so the
umount will fail.
You could instead
   umount -l /tv01 ; exportfs -f

which will avoid the race and be just as effective.

> I would prefer to have individual control; I export a dozen other drives

"exportfs -f" will not exactly unexport them. It just removes cached
information from the kernel so that it has to ask mountd again.
So the most you will notice is a slight pause, and you probably won't
notice that unless the system is very busy and there are lots of
mounts - or hostname/netgroup lookup is very slow.

Bug#446703: listarchives: Could you provide a way to create/show localized pages like www.debian.org?

2007-10-14 Thread Kenshi Muto

Hi list maintainers,
Thank you for keeping Debian mailing-lists well.

Well, I think it would be better if lists.debian.org pages, such
as http://lists.debian.org/, were translatable.

It will be great that these pages become translatable by using webwml
or something via SCM.

Thanks,

Hi Luca,

please check your (nsswitch) configuration. You are probably getting the
nss data from a different source than /etc/passwd (e.g. ldap).

What does "getent passwd | grep hal" say?

Using the chuid option of s-s-d is superfluous, as the hal (and dbus)
daemon internally already call the chuid () syscall.

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks. Using inline attachments is also fine by me.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't believe this is worth breaking backwards
compatibility. If it's just to avoid creating a directory that in the
future might even be necessary or desirable, I don't think it's worth
it.

> I don't know anything about python, but what if the first place in

The first place is always '.', that's why it works: it looks in the same
directory as darcsweb for a config file, and if it can't find one, it
looks in /etc/darcsweb.

That way you can have multiple darcswebs on the same machine with
different configurations, and avoid the name clashing with other python
modules.

Thanks,
Alberto

The next version of lintian will not warn about Homepage headers in
packages and will warn (at the info level for right now) about Homepage
pseudo-headers in the extended description.

I'm still not sure that the original patch in this bug report (trying to
guess at whether a random URL found in the extended description should be
a homepage) is really a good idea.

Bug#446702: Can not change keyboard controls using gui.

2007-10-14 Thread Brandon
Package: balder2d
Version: 1.0~rc1-4
Severity: Important

In the latest version of balder2d, you can no longer change the way the
keys function using the gui. Go to Player Setup, and click on
Rotate/Stick/Fire, and the text just disappers. If you play, you notice
that the controls are still the way they were before.

This bug seems related to #422766. It no longer segfaults at the Player
Setup screen. But it doesn't function either. Perhaps the maintainer
disabled this functionality to prevent segfaults? Or perhaps this is
just another symptom of the same bug.

You can change the controls by manually editing ~/.balder2d.conf

I am using Debian Testing, with a few packages from Unstable, such as
balder2d, and boost. Here is my version info for balder2d and it's
dependencies.

Bug#446476: [texhax] Bug#446476: Bug#446476: natbib cannot handle utf8

2007-10-14 Thread Karl Berry
it is not clear where they get their advice from.

Sebastian decided as best he could, many years ago. Very little has
changed in the set of "recommended" TL packages for a long time now.

Anyway, the main point here is not the classification of ucs, but rather
the possible bug in it. I see on
http://www.unruh.de/DniQ/latex/unicode/ that Dominique Unruh is no
longer able to maintain the unicode package (which contains ucs.sty),
and a new maintainer is welcome.

Perhaps someone here would like to take it on ...

Best,
Karl

I must admit, however, that I've only tested it once since the last reboot.
Might it be that it was upgraded, a new keyring is created, and _from there
on_ it's supposed to be OK?

Bug#446699: debcommit uses debian_version_ for git tags

2007-10-14 Thread Joey Hess
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.9
Severity: normal

I think it must be accidental that debcommit uses "debian_version_" in
the name of git tags it creates. It does that for CVS because CVS has
limitations on tag names that require it not start with a number (IIRC).
But for svn and other vcses, it just uses the debian version number as
the tag, and I think it should do it for git too.

I plan to change it to do that, unless someone has a reason for the
current behavior..

I'm sorry, but I've tried to read this a couple of times, and I really cannot
understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying that an expired ticket

Bug#446697: tomboy: Fails to sync via SSH if PATH does not contain 'modprobe'

2007-10-14 Thread matteo acerbi
Package: tomboy
Version: 0.8.0-2
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Hello.

I was trying to set up the SSH Synchronization Service (sshfs FUSE)
via Tomboy Preferences but it didn't work. When I pressed the 'Save'
button I got an error dialog such as:

   Error connecting :(

   Sorry, but something went wrong.
Please check your information and try again.
The ~/.tomboy.log might be useful too.

In ~/.tomboy.log I found the following message:

10/14/2007 11:59:23 PM [DEBUG]: Unexpected error calling
sshfs.SaveConfiguration: SyncUtils cannot be used because one or more of
the required system tools could not be found.
  at Tomboy.Sync.SyncUtils.CheckToolsValid () [0x0]

  at Tomboy.Sync.FuseSyncServiceAddin.SaveConfiguration () [0x0]
  at Tomboy.PreferencesDialog.OnSaveSyncAddinButton (System.Object
sender, System.EventArgs args) [0x0]

So I had a look at the apt-get source'd code and it looks like the
problem is at line 59 (and 89) of SyncUtils.cs: method SetUpTools
looks for a 'modprobe' command in PATH, but in a default user's PATH
on Debian it won't find it (it's in /sbin/, and I don't have that in
my PATH... Should I?).

I tried again by running tomboy with a modified environment containing
/sbin/ in PATH and the synchronization worked OK.

As it looks like a Debian-specific problem, I'm posting it here, even
if I'd suggest a solution upstream (it doesn't seem to me to be a good
practice to look for commands in PATH and fail *that way* if they
can't be found!).

Anyway, thanks all for this really useful piece of software. :-)

Best regards,
Matteo

Bug#446696: gjots2: some toolbar icons fail to display in icon-only mode

2007-10-14 Thread Neil Williams
Package: gjots2
Version: 2.3.4-2
Severity: normal

If gjots2 is set to icon-only mode (turning off View|Toolbars|Show Icon
Text), closed and restarted, all subsequent starts of the program fail
to show 6 of the icons in the vertical toolbar. Only the arrows and the
sort tree dialog icon show up.

The tooltips do display.

To re-enable the icons, I need to switch on Icon Text and then turn it
off again - everytime I start the program and it's getting to be a pain.

Note that turning the Tree Toolbar visibility off and on does not cause
the icons to re-appear.

My problem with having the icon text displayed is that it makes it
necessary to have a very large gjots2 window in order to use all the
tree toolbar buttons. In fact, gjots2 has to be 90% of the screen height
or maximised. This impairs the usefulness of the program, for me at
least.

Thanks again for the extra info. The reboot should have reset any hung
thread issues, so now I'm not sure why it wasn't working.

Looking at this log I was able to get some more insight on your
previous issue. The previous problems seem to be related to a
temporary network issue you were having with security.debian.org. It
looks like you were unable to resolve their DNS entry properly, as
shown by these log entries:

After that, all future attempts resulted in:

Which may be a bug or not, I'm not sure but I'll investigate it further.

Given all the problems you've been having with security, and the lack
of problems with the main archive, I decided to make this bug a
wishlist item for DebTorrent to support security.debian.org. I'll add
it to my sources.list and try and track down any errors that come up.
I'll close this bug when I feel that the support is fairly stable.

Thanks,
Cameron

Bug#428186: Consider offering only a dev version.

2007-10-14 Thread Patrick Matthäi

Severity: normal

Brandon wrotes:

You might want to consider only offering a dev version of guichan, and
require that packages using guichan link statically. This is
recommended by the debian policy manual in certain cases, such as for
"libraries whose interfaces are in flux or under development."
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-sharedlibs.html#s-sharedlibs-static

Guichan upstream recommends that every project that uses guichan
includes the source files manually in their project. I think the end
effect is the same thing as linking statically. Although with this
solution, there would be no libguichan* or libguichan-dev package.
http://guichan.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Getting_started

-Brandon

Hello,

bumping SONAMES is a good thing for often needed packages and if
upstream provides SONAME support, I will include it.
The current solution (with conflicts) is okay. So I set the severity of
this bug to 'normal' and I will close it if upstream (and after that
this package) provides the support.

Bug#446695: nautilus: Fills up logs with "volume/drive = 0"

2007-10-14 Thread Javier Kohen
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.20.0-1
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Nautilus outputs burts of some debugging messages, causing .xsession-errors to
fill up. This difficults tracking unexpected problems in other applications,
since their logs are not saved due to the log file being too long already.
Please stop logging them; they are useless, since they never ever change from
this:
** Message: drive = 0
** Message: volume = 0

They always come in pairs and I'm not sure what causes them, but from looking
at a nautilus-debug-log.txt I have in my hands, I see that they seem to occur
when I'm sitting in front of the computer. From this file I was able to
determine after months of seeing this problem that the culprit was actually
Nautilus.

In a nautilus-debug-log.txt spanning only 4 days I see short of 15000 of these
lines, amounting for almost 800kB of output and 98% of the size of said file.

Ooops, the ITA line on the PTS should be in bold :-) I missed it.

I'm perfectly fine with keeping the package in Debian for now, if you
are working on packaging the new version.

Thank you for the very detailed information.

Bug#446693: uclibc: should this package be orphaned?

2007-10-14 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Package: uclibc
Version: 0.9.27-1
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

 * 4 RC bugs opened for a long time, with no action from the maintainer
   on 3 of them.
 * several new upstream versions available.

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal

For more information, see

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

and I can still reproduce it. See e.g

libgstreamer-perl shows up in my list of packages that should maybe be
removed/orphaned, but I would prefer to avoid filing such bugs on your
packages ;)

Hello
Thank you for your prompt answer Steinar

The reason I suspect that the problem is with NFS is that the problem comes
out with users (designated by B) other than the user that have is ticket
expired(designated by A). That is to say, a user B, with a fresh and valid
ticket, can not access is own home at the nfs mount until the user A (that
have is home mounted at same nfs server and is ticket was expired) does not
refresh is (the user A) ticket.

For me, it seems that a lock condition is generated, somewere in the client
machine NFS code, when the opened files of user A become unreachable due to
ticket expiration.
The lock condition does not interfere with mount and unmount (made by the
automounter or other mean) for the home of any user B on the nfs server. Read
of directory entries on the user B home is also possible showing that the
user B have valid credentials. Only user B processes reading and writing on
files (or writing directory entries) hang on a locked state.
After user A refreshes is ticket he can access the opened files again and the
NFS lock condition is removed, letting the locked processes of the user B
proceed on the read (or write) operation.

Until now, I failed to figure out a subsystem other than NFS that can be
responsible for this behaviour. However, I am only guessing becose I have not
traced the code execution, so, if you have reasons to assign the bug to other
package please let me know.

Thanks again

Pedro
