Bug#452786: mkvtoolnix should not recommend: mkvtoolnix-gui
Package: mkvtoolnix Version: 2.0.2-1 Severity: minor mkvtoolnix currently Recommends mkvtoolnix-gui. This indicates, according to the debian policy manual, that they "would be found together [...] in all but unusual installations". However, having the command-line tools only is not at all unusual. Indeed, popcon shows that mkvtoolnix has 712 installations, and -gui has 543; and some of those 543 likely pulled it in via aptitude automatically. Moreover, with recommends being followed by default now, care should be taken to avoid pulling heavy GUI dependencies in recommends like this. I suggest that the mkvtoolnix -> mkvtoolnix-gui relation be relaxed to a mere Suggests: rather than a Recommends: to avoid this automatic installation. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I like that one, except maybe that it still doesn't really says that there will be nothing like a GUI installed. At the beginning of this thread, the point was saying that for most users, "a minimal operating system" is pretty likely to implicitely mean something with a GUI ( whether they're wrong or not is not really relevant, indeed). Anyway, the problem is *also* that, IIRC, the description of a task has to be short enough to fit "on one line". signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hi emacs-w3m developers, The attached mail is forwarded from Debian bug tracking system: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=447728 (If possible, please preserve [EMAIL PROTECTED] in replies.) --- Begin Message --- Package: w3m-el Severity: wishlist Tags: patch In w3m.el, the W3M-RETRIEVE-AND-RENDER procedure *always* prompts the user, modally, when transitioning from an https url to a non-https url. This is useless and annoying when one enters a URL explicitly (e.g. w3m-goto-url, w3m-search) -- the user KNOWS that the new URL isn't using https, because she entered it explicitly. It is also annoying when using w3m-view-previous-page -- for example, when flipping between google search results (using http) and help.ubuntu.com (using https). I would like this y-or-n-p to either be smarter about when it asks me, or to support a customize option that would make it use MESSAGE instead of Y-OR-N-P. To learn more about what is going on here, I built both PSPP 0.4.0 and the latest version from CVS on pergolesi.debian.org in a 64-bit chroot. On "make check" on 0.4.0, about half of the tests failed. With the latest CVS snapshot, however, all tests passed, and the example program worked fine. I don't think that PSPP 0.4.0 is going to perform satisfactorily on x86-64. The upcoming release, and the current CVS for that matter, should be much better. (I am currently fielding a few problems with support for big-endian systems though. Ugh. I have no idea how this passed my test before, but it couldn't have. Apparently I forgot that the shell (of course) requires a token before the closing paren, so I need to do "$DOXYGEN", not $DOXYGEN. (the condition that has the syntax error will never execute, but that doesn't help if it doesn't parse) Sorry about that. I've been distracted by visiting relatives and wasn't as careful as I should have been with this fix. Daniel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#452775: gpib: package description is too large and contains useless information and instructions
Source: gpib Version: 3.2.09-2 The description of the binary packages contain way too much information that probably doesn't need to be included or at least summarised. Also, the description is not clear by stating it contains different bindings. E.g. php5-gpib: --- ... The Linux GPIB Package is a support package for GPIB (IEEE 488) hardware. The package contains kernel driver modules, and a C user-space library with Guile, Perl, PHP, Python and TCL bindings. The API of the C library is intended to be compatible with National Instrument's GPIB library. ... This package contains the bindings for php. --- And finally, it contains instructions which should better be provided in the README.Debian file: -- To use these packages you have be using a 2.6 kernel, install gpib-modules-source, compile a gpib-modules-KVERS package out of it, install that and libgpib0 as well a libgpib-bin. Documentation and headers are contained in libgpib0-dev. Language bindings for python, perl and php are available in separate packages as well. -- Please fix this issues in your next upload. Would be nice if you could upgrade to it and verify that bug 304365 is still an issue. I still can't work out how to reproduce it. Are you sure you haven't got something in a profile file. Hello Kurt Yes I think this is possible. But I can't do that. Maybe contact the developers at irc.gnu.org (freenode) in #freebasic and help them? Bug#452772: wireshark: strptime() implicitly converted to pointer
Package: wireshark Version: 0.99.7~pre1-1 Severity: important Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. string.h only exposes the strptime() prototype if _XOPEN_SOURCE is defined. Bug#452695: d-i manual: please add some more info about using defrag on windows partitions
While preparing this, I noticed that there is no hint in the manual, that in such cases man should use the defrag program to put all data on the ntfs partition together to one block. (defrag program is only mentioned in chapter about non-debian partitioning, but using defrag is also important, when d-i ifself does the partitioning job, isn't it?) It shouldn't be nessacery with any reasonablly modern tools including those included in d-i. Indeed windows XP defrag does not consolidate free space anyway so using it before install is really just a waste of time. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#394542: Bad default editting option in Dr Scheme
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Alt-F opens File menu in most gui applications on ubuntu, so it is reasonable for drscheme to do the same to integrate better with the rest of the desktop. The fact that emacs doesn't is emacs' bug. In fact drscheme fakes emacs keybindings, because it doesn't respect Meta at all, but only listens for Alt - which breaks user expectations when Meta is mapped to some other key (e.g. a Win key). The reason is probably that wxWindows and hence MrEd don't support Meta modifier. But as usual in emacs - Meta modifier can be emulated by pressing Escape and then the key to be modified. Actually, liferea-xulrunner is just a dummy package for transition from etch. The xulrunner plugin (and thus, its dependencies) are included in the main liferea package. I'm not sure I want to reintroduce separate plugin packages, since I'm not sure webkit itself and the plugin will be in good enough shape to be released when lenny is. The clean solution would be to avoid loading one plugin if the other is present, but I see no easy way to do that. I'd have to declare some sort of "priority" for them. Bug#452769: slbackup-php: Useless build-depends: php5-cli
Source: slbackup-php Version: 0.3-1 Severity: important Tags: patch This package build-depends on php5-cli but php5's binary is never used at build-time. On the other hand the build process calls the missing tsmarty2c.php binary which is provided by the smarty-gettext package. In case smarty-gettext is added as a Build-Depends make sure php5-cli is kept as a build-dep, otherwise the php5 package is installed as a dependency of smarty-gettext causing apache to be installed on the build system. It might probably be a good idea to patch the Makefile so --language=PHP is passed to xgettext when called. Bug#452758: nfs-common statd not registering - prevents automount from working
Package: nfs-common Version: 1:1.1.1~git-20070929-1 Summary: nfs-common will have rpc.statd start itself before the networking subsystem. If this is done rpc.statd will not register and therefore preventing the use of automount to work after bootup. If you restart nfs-common after bootup automount will then work. The solution to this is to move nfs-common init script to start at a later time after networking. I'm surprised no one had reported this before. Details: rpc.statd will fail upon bootup with: Nov 24 16:12:59 (none) rpc.statd[2284]: Version 1.1.0 Starting Nov 24 16:12:59 (none) rpc.statd[2284]: unable to register (statd, 1 udp). This prevents automount from working. This is cause because of the order of init scripts: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Sep 18 12:13 S20nfs-common -> ../init.d/nfs-common lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 20 Aug 23 2004 S35networking -> ../init.d/networking Moving S20nfs-common to something above S35 will correct this. I've set it to S40 and this resolves it. Luis -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#452756: xen-delete-image should report success or failure
Package: xen-tools When using xen-delete-image, I am always confused about what it really did, as it doesn't report any info about success or failure of it's run. For example, I can run xen-delete-image grml-live-testing as often as I want, it's output is always plain nothing - no way to differentiate if I got the name right the first time, and that the second and third time, I try to delete a VM that does not exist (anymore). I think, it should tell "Deletet VM " at the end, if it really found a config file and lvm's for that domain, and those where correctly deleted, and it should report problems if any of these was not there, or could not be deleted. Maybe you have GIMP versions in both /usr and /usr/local ? ---8<--- So I had to apt-get install libgimp2.0 to make sure it gets upgraded, and then it works. This situation was reached by installing gimp 2.4.1 and, some time later, install again to get 2.4.2. (i'm pretty sure this used to be the default behaviour of xargs. whatever, it's not now) in fact, i'll use 'xargs -r' wherever it makes sense to do so in the rest of dlocate. i've also changed numerous tests for "file exists" ('-e') to "file exists and is not empty" ('-s'). this works in my dev version of dlocate (which has a few other minor fixes). i'll upload soon. craig -- craig sanders <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The only excuse for God is that he doesn't exist. -- Stendhal -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Now it looks like the Ralink drivers do not allow setting most wireless parameters while they are down (though rt2500 alone seems to be more flexible). Unfortunately, when using ifupdown and wireless-tools, this is exactly what is attempted - see bug #403983. Is this what you were trying to work around, Piotr? I think a better workaround would be include a pre-up script that does something like: if [ x"$(basename "$(readlink /sys/class/net/"$IFACE"/device/driver)")" = x"rt73" ]; then ifconfig "$IFACE" up fi We should consider applying this to some or all of the other legacy drivers. I can see what's going wrong here. In the previous version of the package I changed the controller (RT) revision checks in rt2500usb and rt73usb so that they would each reject devices that the other should handle. (Normally the device id table determines which driver should be used, but at least one device id has been used for devices with different chipsets.) A similar change was then made upstream, but it looks like the check was initially reversed in rt2500usb, resulting in this error. This has since been fixed upstream. I will probably make a new upstream snapshot, as there are some other significant bug fixes in it. If upstream isn't stable enough I will just patch this in the Debian package. Either way, this should be fixed soon. Ben. -- Ben Hutchings Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Package: epiphany-webkit Version: 2.20.1-2 Severity: normal i am unable to copy or paste in the browser frame when using epiphany-webkit. ctrl-c, ctrl-v, ctrl-x, and middle-click do not work. also, the right-click menu is completely missing (which may be a separate problem altogether). note copy/paste works just fine in the address bar and other parts of the epiphany-webkit application window. only the main browser frame has the problem. this is a pretty obvious problem, but i am posting this because i don't yet see it in the BTS. hopefully it helps to track/resolve the problem. thanks for all the hard work. mike -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (400, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages epiphany-webkit depends on: ii dbus1.1.2-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii epiphany-browser-data 2.20.1-2 Data files for the GNOME web brows ii gnome-icon-theme2.20.0-1 GNOME Desktop icon theme ii iso-codes 1.6-2ISO language, territory, currency, ii libart-2.0-22.3.19-3 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.20.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-02.20.1-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.20.0-1 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.7-1GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.10-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.1.2-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.74-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libffi4 4.2.2-3 Foreign Function Interface library ii libfontconfig1 2.5.0-2 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.20.1-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.2-1library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-02.14.3-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-desktop-2 2.20.1-1 Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome2-0 2.20.1.1-1 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.20.1.1-1 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeui-02.20.1.1-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.20.1-1 GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.12.1-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.7-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.18.3-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-3 PNG library - runtime ii libpopt01.10-3 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libstartup-notification 0.9-1library for program launch feedbac ii libstdc++6 4.2.2-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libwebkitgtk0d 0~svn27674-1 Web content engine library for Gtk ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.6.30.dfsg-3GNOME XML library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.4-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxslt1.1 1.1.22-1 XSLT processing library - runtime ii python2.4 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-7 compression library - runtime Versions of packages epiphany-webkit recommends: ii yelp 2.20.0-1 Help browser for GNOME 2 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Ok, that might be better. (At least I don't have to come up with some translations. :-) Descriptions should be enough by themselves. Bug#452625: amarok: rebuild for libgpod 0.6.0 (new ipod support)
Nico Golde wrote: I have upgraded to libgpod3 0.6.0 to get support for the new ipods, but I can't seems to make amarok use it (probably because it depends on the different soname libgpod2?). The new ipod works with gtkpod but not amarok (and I much prefer amarok). We already asked for binNMUs, see: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2007/11/msg00074.html So this should be fixed soon. My last 'aptitude upgrade' pulled in a version that works (and removed libgpod2). Thanks very much! -Chris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#451954: Subtle problem with gettext.info
INFO-DIR-SECTION GNU Gettext Utilities START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY This is gettext.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.11 from gettext.texi.
