Well, no. The bug is marked as fixed for version 1.12.3-1. When this

resolved on bug.debian.org.

the network control panel can create configurations that confuse the
network manager. Perhaps if network manager could be made to notice
existing connections (since it apparently does not require X and
therefore should be able able to play nice with other non-X networking)?

If it is already *supposed* to do this, then this is a different bug
than I thought. If that is the case, is it fixed in lenny? (It doesn't
do this in etch on my system, and from google I'm not the only one).

The upcoming 0.7 release will have support for static IP configurations.
It will also feature a component called nm-system-settings, which allows
to pass configuration to NetworkManager without a logged in user.
nm-system-settings will have a plugin to parse /etc/network/interfaces
and provide basic support for static IP configurations, wpa and wep
settings.

Did you upgrade that recently? And would be possible to try with a
non-EABI (normal arm) kernel, in case you have that chroot in a
different partition, or maybe transfering it beforehand?

Anyway, I don't think this is a problem related to dpkg in any way.

Bug#462909: O: bmv -- PostScript viewer for SVGAlib

2008-01-27 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I just orphaned the bmv package. I can transfer the ownership of
the alioth project to the next maintainer, just ask for it.

The package description is:
BMV is a frontend for GhostScript. Using BMV you can now preview your
PostScript files comfortably. You can also use it for viewing rawPBM
image files. It uses SVGAlib and it is intended for Linux users who
cannot run X. It is particularly suitable for previewing PS files from
dvips. It is small and fast.

The Debian version of bmv is patched to include a rotate option and
 further keybindings.

This is a rather interesting problem. I have built rake in both,
pbuilder which runs on an XFS partition, and in my home directory which
is ext2. In both cases, I have not seen this problem.

I just tried that particular unit test in irb and it worked. The data
was always in alphabetical order and not in reverse order as you seem to
be seeing.

Now, I tried the exact same thing on ext3, and I get a reverse order as
you are seeing it! I'll alert upstream regarding this issue... So far
seem to be dependent on the filesystem.

Thanks for the report!

- Adam

PS. I'm guessing that the problem is that FileList does not order the
list, just fetches file system order. This causes the problems above.

Bug#462908: gtk-theme-switch: should this package be orphaned?

2008-01-27 Thread Raphael Geissert
Package: gtk-theme-switch
Version: 2.0.4
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

 * many bugs without comment from the maintainer
 * no recent upload from the maintainer
 * new upstream version available
 * package still builds libgtk1.2-dependent binary

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

For more information, see

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Trying to send ObjC messages on the prompt fails:

A syntax error in expression, near `[@"l" class]'.

Note that it would also fail with variables.

Does "set language objective-c" help?

Indeed it does, that's great!

(gdb) set language objective-c
Warning: the current language does not match this frame.
(gdb) p [@"" class]
$1 = (struct objc_class *) 0xb7cef1a0

Note I just tested this from a breakpoint within an ObjC file:

Breakpoint 1, -[Application autoActionsForBundleNamed:] (self=0xb713e010,
_cmd=0x84d7500, bn=0xc073598) at Application.m:5520

So I suppose it's just minor bug in the automatic language detection.
Let me know if I can give any further information...

Hello,

It would be nice if the lighttpd package included a conf snippet in

- upgrade slapd
- let the postinst fail
- edit the ldif file under /var/backups/slapd-$oldver to remove the invalid
  entries
- re-run dpkg --configure -a

That should do the job.

Well, yes; there's generally no rollback support in Debian packages. By the
time the new package is being configured, the old binaries have been
entirely replaced by the new, so any attempt to start the server will fail
with this error; and detecting this particular problem is not something that
would be straightforward to do from a maintainer script.

As discussed in
http://blade.nagaokaut.ac.jp/cgi-bin/scat.rb/ruby/ruby-talk/275177, the problem
is that REXML stopped accepting non-String objects as content.

The following patch against /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rexml/text.rb fixes the problem:

You can see that this change was already applied in upstream's trunk, cf:

http://svn.ruby-lang.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/trunk/lib/rexml/text.rb?r1=14826&r2=15141

Bug#462898: netatalk: Netatalk install half-configured if it fails to start during install

2008-01-27 Thread Daniel Dickinson
Package: netatalk
Version: 2.0.3-7
Severity: normal

When I installed netatalk it failed to start during the installation process
(probably because of multiple network cards) and this resulted in the package
being half-configured, and trying to going through postinst every time I
installed other packages.

Once I fixed the problem that caused netatalk to fail to start (by adding
appropriate router lines to atalkd.conf) the problem remained because the
attempt to start netatalk failed because it was already started.

Only shutting down netatalk and doing an install from aptitude (that is the
re-running the postinst step) solved the problem.

Dear Robert,

many thanks for your prompt reaction. We will update MUSCLE in Debian
soon.

It is slightly inconvenient for us that you did not increase the version
number for this revision: once an upstream source is registered in the
Debian archive, we can not change it. We would therefore need to use a
version number such as 3.7-gcc-fixed that is not existing in your site,
or to convey your changes as patches to the original 3.7 version. Could
you for instance publish the corrected version as 3.7.1? (Also, in the
past, you used version numbers such as 3.42, which technically are
higher than 3.7 or 3.7.1, and also cause minor trouble to us. I would
recommend 3.7.1 if you would distribute the revised version of 3.7 with
an additional minor number).

Have a nice day,

Bug#462897: signing-party: does not update key used for signing from the main keyring before starting

2008-01-27 Thread Paul Wise
Package: signing-party
Version: 0.4.13-1
Severity: important

I wanted to sign Steffen Joeris' key after I met him in Alice Springs,
but I couldn't do that because the version of my key in
~/.caff/gnupghome/pubring.gpg had expired, but I had updated the one in
~/.gnupg/pubring.gpg ages ago and republished it. It took me a while to
realise that "unusable secret key" meant that the public portion had
expired. Simply exporting it from the gpg public keyring and importing
it into the caff public keyring.

So, I think it would be good if caff could either update the signing key
from the keyservers, or from ~/.gnupg/pubring.gpg before proceeding with
signing.

Also, I asked micah about this and he said this:

you around? I need some help with caff
it thinks my key is expired because the one in the public keyring
in /home/pabs/.caff/gnupghome didn't get updated from /home/pabs/.gnupg/
I guess I should just import from one and export to the other?
ah, nevermind, that seems to have worked
weird it doesn't do that automatically
yeah I've noticed odd things with caff like that
for example, I tried changing my signing key to a new key and it
didn't notice it
I think I'll report a bug about that
and the only way I figured it out was by moving my .caff
directory out of the way and then it re-made it with the config
yeah, I meant to when it happened to me, but I was confused
about what happened so I should have gone back and re did it all to
figure out what exactly the problem was and report a but, but ... i
didn't :)
so if you do report that bug, thanks, because you reported it
for me too :)
and I'm sorry I didn't report it sooner so you didn't have to
micah: mind if I paste your problem in the bug too?
 no go ahead

Bug#462895: Colors are all wrong when drawing on YCbCr images

2008-01-27 Thread Steinar H. Gunderson
Package: perlmagick
Version: 7:6.2.4.5.dfsg1-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

Image::Magick (and probably ImageMagick proper) seems rather broken when
working in non-RGB colorspaces. Witness for instance the following
script:

  use Image::Magick;
  my $m = Image::Magick->new(size=>"200x200");
  $m->Read("xc:green");
  $m->Set(colorspace=>'YCbCr');
  $m->Draw(primitive=>"rectangle", fill=>"white", points=>"0,0 100,100");
  $m->Write("test.jpeg");

The resulting background is correctly enough green (showing that the
colorspace conversion worked), but the square is pink. This is because
#ff in YCbCr is, of course, pink, not white.

I can work around this to some degree, by giving explicit hex codes
to Draw() instead of color names. However, I cannot find a reasonable
way of drawing FreeType text, since drawing black text on a white
background yields ugly green fringes where there should have been grey
pixels (ie. the antialiasing doesn't understand YCbCr either).

metamail -w is supposed to write parts to files but acts exactly as
metamail
In a terminal

run metamail -w mailmessage

where mailmessage has mime parts such as pdf or html.
metamail will ask to launch evince or browser instead of
asking to write the part to a file.

The man page says that -w ignores mailcap, but this is not the case.

Hi,

The version of util-vserver you are using is from sarge. If you do not
know, this version of the Debian operating system will no longer have
security support starting in April of this year. The problem you are
reporting has been fixed in subsequent versions of the initscript (in
fact vservers-legacy doesn't exist any longer).

I would encourage you to upgrade at least to etch in the near future.

I could be wrong, it was a very long time ago. :) The debian version
dates from '94, not sure if you're saying if the gnu one was written in
'96 or that's when you became involved.

and hasn't been updated to recognize certain
   directives in newer info files.

The main directive (START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY) has been there basically since
the beginning of Info, not just install-info. I am pretty sure Debian
ii recognizes it, otherwise it wouldn't do anything useful at all.

I think the issue is that it only groks one START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY, and
isn't aware of what to do when there is more than one wrapped in
INFO-DIR-SECTION directives.

I am aware of the effort to unify the two, and that's definitely a good
thing. I'm also not going to count on all the stars aligning before the
next debian release, hence my search for a workaround. :-)

This does seem to do some pseudo-intelligent handling based on how many
characters are present. This could probably be improved to require
escaped commas.

As noted in ":help option-backslash", backslashes need to be doubled if
they're to be considered literal. Your experimentation reflects this
properly.

> - '"' needs to be escaped too
> set langmap="a -> no error, it just does not work

" is Vim's comment character which is why the first one does nothing and
the second one works as expected.

the supplied patch caused ldm to fail to start without also using the
patch from debian bug #462760 to allow autologin.

with the autologin patch, it worked when setting LDM_USER to the user
and LDM_PASSWORD to an invalid password (although it still *required*
setting LDM_PASSWORD to something). so it definitely used the ssh key.

it needs more work, but it's a good start. :)

Package: makedev

Hi! First of all, thanks for closing #437329.

In message #22 [*], I asked if you would object to putting /dev/cbm in
the $floppy class, as this would be (IMO) the most natural permissions
for that device. I see that you added it to $system in 2.3.1-85, but
I'm not sure whether you disagree or just missed that message. Instead
of reopening the old bug, I figured I'd file a new one instead.

 [*]

If you're interesed, I made the case for this in #437520, which
requested a udev rule to relax the current root/0660 permissions, and
Marco seemed to agree. Please take a look, and let me know if you have
any objections.

Bug#462232: gsl: Please build depend on libblas-dev instead of refblas3.dev

2008-01-27 Thread Dirk Eddelbuettel

Hi Doko,

I think I have it sorted out.

On 28 January 2008 at 01:12, Matthias Klose wrote:

| Dirk, there are some problems:
|
| - the current build doesn't use any external blas library, the build
|dependencies seem to be bogus.

That seems to be the same for all gsl builds, not only the newest. I have
logs of my builds here all the way back from 1.3 in 2003 to 1.10-{1,2,3}.

So I think this is an upstream choice,

See the program below. You can build it with _either_ the supplied blas, or
the regular blas, or Atlas. Your choice. I think that is good:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/src/progs/C> gcc -Wall -O2 -o blas_sgemm_gsl_blas
blas_sgemm_gsl.c -lblas
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/src/progs/C> gcc -Wall -O2 -o blas_sgemm_gsl_gslblas

I don't understand.

| - gsl cannot use the optimized blas libraries provided by atlas, it
|really should use the external libs. Or is there a reason not to
|do so?

It can. You'd use it when you build apps against GSL, and by changing your
Makefiles to point to Atlas instead of the default fallback libgslcblas.

Gsl being a library, it doesn't actually use blas itself which is why there
is no depends.

Does this make sense now?

Hope this helps, Dirk

while the provided patch makes autologin work, it appears to break
normal login where the user supplies a username and password.

so, this patch doesn't really work, though it may be a starting point
for someone i to get it working for both autologin and normal logins :)

Bug#462888: reportbug: should comsider architecture when querying p.d.o

When querying for newer packages at p.d.o reportbug is showing newer
packages from all architectures.

The desired behaviour would be to consider only those packages

buggy package to the newest installable version.

Bug#434765: related to changes in linux v2.6.22

2008-01-27 Thread Martin Waitz
hoi :)

Discussions on lkml[1] hinted the Linux NFS client being at fault,
so I bisected it and found the commit which makes cfs break:

1c710c896eb461895d3c399e15bb5f20b39c9073 is first bad commit
commit 1c710c896eb461895d3c399e15bb5f20b39c9073
Author: Ulrich Drepper <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Tue May 8 00:33:25 2007 -0700

utimensat implementation

Implement utimensat(2) which is an extension to futimesat(2) in that it

a) supports nano-second resolution for the timestamps
b) allows to selectively ignore the atime/mtime value
c) allows to selectively use the current time for either atime or mtime
d) supports changing the atime/mtime of a symlink itself along the lines
   of the BSD lutimes(3) functions

[...]

I don't know how this can influence cfs, but before this commit cfs
definitely worked and after it it does not.

I'm Cc:ing the kernel guys, please have a look if this really breaks
NFS in some strange ways or if it simply uncovers an old cfs bug.

And thanks in advance for any help in getting cfs working together with
current kernels again! :-)

Bug#462886: smb4k: wrong netbios name and user account name when mounting shares

2008-01-27 Thread Walter B. Rasmann
Package: smb4k
Version: 0.9.1-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Smb4k sends system username and system hostname instead of a neutral
account name and the user configured netbios name when mounting shares.

This is bad behaviour.

I attached a simple patch.

Best Regards,

Walter

What? That makes no sense to me at all. Info doesn't look inside every

2008-01-27 Thread Karl Berry

That wasn't my understanding, but I never actually researched it. I was
not aware of any Debian ii at the time that rms wrote GNU ii (I was
maintaining Texinfo by then -- 1996), but then, I probably wouldn't have
been. Anyway, whatever. The situation is what it is.

and hasn't been updated to recognize certain
directives in newer info files.

The main directive (START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY) has been there basically since
the beginning of Info, not just install-info. I am pretty sure Debian
ii recognizes it, otherwise it wouldn't do anything useful at all.
Something else must be going on. Like, they don't install the coreutils
manual. Whatever ...

Unfortunately, the gnu install-info isn't a drop in replacement for
debian one, either.

Fortunately, after years of talk between me and various Debian people, a
new volunteer (Ben Asselstine) has implemented all of the Debian ii
behavior in GNU ii. I'm working towards a new Texinfo release now,
primarily because of that work.

Of course Debian ii will continue to exist for many years, in all the
existing releases at least.

From information provided in a follow-up installation report (#462809, now
merged with this report) it looks as if partman-auto may be somehow
creating an invalid partitioning setup. Reason I suspect this is that using
the "manual partitioning" option in partman, submitter _was_ able to create
a valid setup.

Tracking down this issue will most likely require porter effort, therefore
tagging help.

Bug#462591: FTBFS with GCC 4.3: missing #includes

2008-01-27 Thread Paul Cager

Martin Michlmayr wrote:

Package: msp-webserver
Version: 0.8.11-1

Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.3

Your package fails to build with GCC 4.3. Version 4.3 has not been
released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors
and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header
dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that
programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually
need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should
do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler
other than GCC). There's some more information about this at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.3/porting_to.html

You can reproduce this problem with gcc-4.3 or gcc-snapshot from
unstable.

Thanks for the report.

There are 3 errors all in all:

listen_threads needs to include bits/stl_algo.h
hash_map needs to include string.h
mem_buff needs to include string.h

I'll send this to upstream, rather than patch it, as they release quite
frequently.

Bug#462885: postrm fails, if vboxusers group is not a system group

Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Somehow I've managed to have a vboxusers group, which is not system group.

In this case, the postrm of virtualbox-ose fails, because
/usr/sbin/delgroup --quiet --system vboxusers
returns error status 3 and the postrm script uses "set -e".

This prevents the package from being purged.

The attached patch fixes this, by using "|| true" to ignore the error.

It's my opinion that the current behavior is not a bug, and that letting the

I can see your point of view, but when I ran the upgrade it didn't roll back,

Bug#462232: gsl: Please build depend on libblas-dev instead of refblas3.dev

2008-01-27 Thread Matthias Klose
reopen 462232
thanks

Dirk, there are some problems:

 - the current build doesn't use any external blas library, the build
   dependencies seem to be bogus.

 - if the external libs are used, you have to change the name of the
   library package.

 - gsl cannot use the optimized blas libraries provided by atlas, it
really should use the external libs. Or is there a reason not to
   do so?

Matthias

Bug#441947: Debian Bug report logs - #441947 ITA: freeguide -- Displays TV listings

2008-01-27 Thread Shaun Jackman
Thanks for your interest in adopting freeguide.

The upstream author is interested in making it work with free tools,
thus facilitating a move from contrib to main. After your initial
adoption upload of the package, moving freeguide to main would be a
worthy project.

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi,
This looks like an app I'm interested in using, as well as a fairly
easy package to maintain. I'm in the UK and, as such, have a free
source of TV listings.

As a result of all the above, I'd like to take over maintaining this
package. :)

Cheers,
Dan

What filesystem are you using for /var/run? Do you get the same error if you
manually stop snort (i.e. not on system shutdown). This message is quite
strange since root runs the stop script. That "permission denied" message
does not make much sense.

Javier

Bug#462882: Sending ObjC messages on the gdb prompt fails with syntax error

2008-01-27 Thread David Ayers
Package: gdb
Version: 6.6.dfsg.90.20070912-1
Severity: normal

Trying to send ObjC messages on the prompt fails:

(gdb) p [@"l" class]
A syntax error in expression, near `[@"l" class]'.

Note that it would also fail with variables.

The workaround is quite nasty so I'll document it but not include it by
default. I will reassign this bug to flashplugin-nonfree as I think it
has useful information about what it's doing wrong.

One of the nice things about standards is that there are so many of them.

Up to you then. I don't have a Pocket PC anymore either, so you're no
worse off than I am.
