Subject: aplus-fsf: A+ crashes at start
Package: aplus-fsf
Version: 4.20.2-5
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Like bug #422970, aplus crashes immediately upon
hitting F4. However,after reading bug #422970, I
installed xfonts-kapl before starting xemacs and
trying to start A+. I get the following result in
xemacs:

I don't know either but the problem seems to be a) that seeking does not
work properly (either gstreamer or wildmidi bug) and b) that the error
reporting of the plugin for failed seeking is a bit too strong :) It
should continue to play back from the old position instead of exploding
that hard.

Bug#468130: python-gobject-dbg: There is no convenient way to *use* the debugging pygobject library

2008-02-26 Thread Nathaniel Smith
Package: python-gobject-dbg
Version: 2.14.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Most -dbg packages are set up so that when running under gdb, the
debugging libraries are automatically used. Not so for pygobject.
After flailing around for a while, the *only* way I could come up
with to cause the debugging-enabled .so to be loaded was by going
in and renaming
  /var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/gobject/_gobject_d.so
to
  /var/lib/python-support/python2.4/gtk-2.0/gobject/_gobject.so
(overwriting the existing _gobject.so symlink that dpkg and friends
generated for the python-gobject package).

Requiring users to rearrange files installed by dpkg is just
awful. Failing to document how to do so makes it even worse.
(Of course, perhaps there is some other way to magically get
at the debug version of the library. If so, maybe it could be
more prominently documented?)

Package: kismet
Version: 2007-10-R1-2
Severity: normal

I was shocked to discover a dependecy from kismet to gtk2 when I updated
one of my systems and it tried to pull down a few dozen extra packages.
This is unneeded bloat on atleast one of my machines that I have kismet
installed upon.

I propse the gpsmap feature be split into a seperate binary package
kismet-gpsmap(?) so that the entire X and graphics library dependency of
the basic kismet software can be removed.

Bug#459948: Not really a gmailfs bug

2008-02-26 Thread Uwe Barthel
This redirect 'bug' is not really a gmailfs bug itself.
On my account this 'bug' grows one day before.

Yesterday I've worked with this acocount well... today I've become the
302 too.

So, what I found is:

* This is a feature of the liburl of the installed phyton package:
http://docs.python.org/lib/module-urllib.html -- see class
FancyURLopener

The libgmail registered it's own handler for http_error_302 but the
counter of the 10 retries is handled by the liburl.

So a first fix will be to set the maxtries on greater value than 10.

Sorry. No patch attached. I'm not a python developer. ;-)

Bug#459611: & Bug#461349: swish++ and resource limits

Kapil Hari Paranjape <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

If there was no update script or 'cron' job in 'swish++', I'd agree
with upstream. But a system wide weekly update script is a Debian
thing, and default package settings shouldn't overburden a system.

If you don't have time to fix it, please just let it sit; that's
what the 'wontfix' tag is for. I'm not (yet) sold on the current 'minor'
severity.

> ...Users should make judicious use of "ulimit" which is defined in
> all Posix shells in order to set resource limits for child processes.

The wiser maintainers can't generalize a 'ulimit' solution, yet
expect ordinary users to figure out specific ones. How? No
general solution means no standard for "judicious users" to apply.
Result: clumsy trial & error, plus duplicated user effort.

(BTW, I never installed 'swish++' on its own, it was a dependency of
'dhelp' or 'dwww'; both help viewers are perhaps most needed by
novices who are the least able to cope with config problems.)

Is this a new problem? As package 'cron' demands increase, I'd expect
it to become a bigger problem. Clearly it's not up to 'swish++' to fix
all of Debian, but it should play nice, and it's as good a place to
start as any, a working particular solution may eventually lead
to a general solution.

It's about finding practical formulas for two variables: the proposed
job load, and the system speed. It's virtually truck driving**,
complete with freight limits, speed limits, time limits, mechanical
failure, spoilage, traffic, and driver fatigue.

(**any means of hauling would serve as a metaphor; freight trains, cargo
ships, horse drawn wagons, donkey carts, dog sleds, bicycle baskets,
rickshaws, etc.)

Relevant unknowns, the "freight": how much resources needed to do a
weekly 'cron' indexing. The worst case. Which single package, and
which file, is "heaviest".

The worst case would be if the user had the maximum number of
indexable Debian packages installed. A few experiments with 'apt-get'
suggest that finding this maximum is an interesting problem --
installing everything makes for conflicts, so thousands of packages
must be whittled away. How to choose which packages?

Fuzzy algorithm: come up with an average somehow, (e.g. my system,
2879 packages, I'm not sure how many can be indexed), multiply by 10.

Kludge maximum package algorithm: scan all possible Debian packages,
conflicting or not, for indexable files. (Either by searching the
'.deb' archives without installing, for by 'forcing' installation on a
dummy system.) Multiply average "weight" by 4.

Relevant unknowns, the "truck": the user's system resources. if the
maximum was feasible, even on a 386sx-16 with 32 megs, (or whatever the
minimum Debian platform is), the problem becomes easier. If the
minimal system can't make it, then we'd estimate how much it can do,
and fail when necessary.

Eventually, (should this be abstracted into a general solution), all
Debian packages with cron jobs might be required to provide "freight"
figures, (not necessarily actual numbers, perhaps just some partial
formula invariant enough to work with), which would then be used
at install-time, (or perhaps before downloading), to calculate whether
the user's "truck" can haul some "freight". A "freight" figure
would also be a useful metric for comparing the efficiency of similar
packages.

HTH...

Ok. This is somehow related to #465811: same source of problem but
another effect.

When you swap windows, awesome receive an EnterWindow event from the X
server if your mouse if over the windows you are swapping, indicating
that the mouse pointer entered a new window, and then switch focus to
this window.

There's a crappy hack in awesome to drop this EnterWindow events just
after swapping windows, but it does not work so well.

This still need a proper solution.

This error appears in a current cupsys bugreport on the ubuntu bts:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/183110

If I restart the printer a second time, and try to print another test
page I get the original error:

"Unable to open parallel port device file: Permission denied"

Is there more information I can provide?

Bug#468123: Please bind pkgCache::DepType, pkgCache::CompType, and pkgCache::CompTypeDeb.

2008-02-26 Thread Daniel Burrows
Package: python-apt
Version: 0.7.5
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

  pkgCache::DepType, pkgCache::CompType, and pkgCache::CompTypeDeb are
handy for printing user-readable information about dependencies; it
would be nice if they were bound. I've attached a patch that does just
this.

Bug#467335: libxsloader-perl: FTBFS with Perl 5.10 (fragile tests)

2008-02-26 Thread Ivan Kohler
5.10 already includes a newer version of XSLoader.pm.

I have filed a bug against perl-base for appropriate Provides/Replaces
entries (Bug#468121).

I have filed a bug against ftp.debian.org for removal of the
libxsloader-perl package (Bug#468122).

Presumably, this original FTBFS bug report (#467335) will autoclose when
the package is removed. :)

Bug#468121: 5.10: Please have perl-base 5.10 Provide/Replace libxsloader-perl

2008-02-26 Thread Ivan Kohler
Package: perl-base
Version: 5.8.8-12
Severity: normal

Hi,

perl 5.8 includes XSLoader 0.06
perl 5.10 includes XSLoader 0.08

As I understand 5.10 will be uploaded to unstable shortly, I am requesting the
removal of the libxsloader-perl package (currently at version 0.07 with
upstream 0.08). Please include an appropraite Provides/Replaces in perl-base
5.10 so that any libxsloader-perl 0.08 or below is removed upon the perl 5.10
upgrade.

I have filed this bug against perl-base as XSLoader.pm is included in
that package unlike most other modules in perl-modules.

Thanks.

Hi,

please find attached the patch for my NMU, fixing this bug. It'll
probably get uploaded to DELAYED/5 so that you can still react and
eventually proceed to a MU.

Cheers,

Bug#468120: git-buildpackage: Import of .dsc is not repeatable

2008-02-26 Thread John Goerzen
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.4.16
Severity: wishlist

git-import-dsc appears to only import a .dsc once at a time.

if run from within an existing git repo, it would be nice if it would
import the given .dsc on top of what's there. Import the upstream (if
it isn't already there) atop the upstream branch. Commit a merge onto
the main branch, then adjust it as needed based on the unpacked Debian
source tree. see hg-buildpackage and darcs-buildpackage for examples.

It would be nice for git-dch to have an option to include the full
commit message in the changelog. It would of course have to re-wrap

the commit message for future reference and also have it appear in the
changelog -- sort of debcommit in reverse.

Bug#468114: Loopback file system support.

2008-02-26 Thread Luke Yelavich

Severity: wishlist
Version: 0.91e
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch hardy ubuntu

Attached is a patch to allow an initramfs to use a root filesystem as a loop
device, on top of another file system. A good example and use of this code is
for Ubuntu's Windows installer, which creates a loopback filesystem on top of
the Windows NTFS partition. The Windows partition is mounted, then the loopback
filesystem is mounted from the Windows partition. The patch applies against git
head.

Bug#468115: Support for mount failure hooks.

2008-02-26 Thread Luke Yelavich
Package: initramfs-tools

Attached is a patch to allow scripts in either local-top or init-premount to
register hook to perform specific actions in the event the root device cannot
be found. A good use for this is when an attemt is made to find the device that
contains an LVM volume. If the root device cannot be found, lvm can then be
queried to present the user with information about what may be wrong with their
volumes. This patch applies against git head. This is part of the Ubuntu

Are you still having this issue?

Please use this script:

And replace /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh in your system. That should fix

Bug#468111: dpkg: glade sid -> etch does not convert directory into a symlink

2008-02-26 Thread Paul Wise
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.14.16.6
Severity: normal

I downgraded glade from sid -> etch to get code generation functionality
back, and then upgraded it from etch -> sid, which failed because dpkg
was doing rm on an empty directory instead of rmdir. Initially I thought
this was a bug in glade for not supporting upgrades from etch, but it
turns out to be due to a bug in dpkg where downgrading from glade
3.4.1-1 in sid to glade 2.12.1-7 in etch does not convert the glade doc
directory from a directory to a symlink as it should:

Hi Jiri,

Thanks for sending along these reports. I have checked in your suggested
patch regarding cdebootstrap into my Darcs repo already.

In truth, it has been a long time since I have dabbled with the dfsbuild
code, and it is in need of an overhaul in several areas for sure. One of
the main things I want to do is to add many more opportunities for arbitrary
hooks into shell commands to replace some of the hard-coded configuration
assumptions.

I need to find some time to get back into the dfsbuild code before I can
comment on this particular thing though, I'm afraid.

If you are interested in taking over dfsbuild, or becoming a contributor to
it, I would be happy to work with you or hand it over to you.

Bug#379682: mercury: should this package be removed?

Any idea what that is for and if it is even necessary or what it is
supposed to be doing?

As for maintaining this in some VCS system, that shouldn't be an
issue. Just make sure you keep the debian and VCS dirs/files out of
the tarball.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Barry,

It seems that about 3 of us are creating packages independently.
Please allow me to coordinate everybody's efforts. I have a darcs
repository[1] of what I've achieved so far (the dh_install step fails
atm). If you'd like please check it out, make any changes and use
'darcs send' to e-mail them to me.

Otherwise e-mail what you've done so far and I'll take a look.

I expect you've gotten a little further than me, however I don't know
what approach you are taking and what outcomes you're aiming for, so
accepting your work may take longer than expected.

I'm building mercury for a single grade initially just to get
something working, this will be asm_fast.gc. I'm also building
separate packages such as mercury-dev mercury-asmfastgc1-dev mercury-bin.

I'd be very interested to see what you have achieved.

1: http://www.digitalerection.com/~paul/mercury-0.13.1-debianization
This is the debian directory. There are also some patches for mercury
that aren't published yet.

Paul,

Ah great, I didn't know you were actively working on it. I will stop
then since I'm not that familiar with mecury.

I've uploaded my source package that you can pull from here:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/m/mercury/mercury_0.13.1-1.dsc

I'm happy to help with any packaging issues you have (if I can help).

Thanks,

Bug#426581: meshlab - anyone still working on this

2008-02-26 Thread Ian Jackson
Paolo Cignoni writes ("Re: Bug#426581: meshlab - anyone still working on this"):
> We use QT with QSettings mechanism for saving config files in a portable way

Can these files be written other than by Qt ? Our configuration
management systems often need to write to configuration in situations
where the application in question is not available. Often there will
not be a graphical display and sometimes not even a user to interact
with (eg, preloading for automated operating system installs).

> (i would like to avoid to put any OS specific code inside meshlab)

I understand that view.

If you make a hook that we can use to control the behaviour, we can
happily add any necessary Debian-specific code to our version.

I think this isn't the right answer for Debian. We wouldn't want it
popping up its own dialogues. But it sounds like it would provide a
place for us to plumb in our own configuration. So if you do it that
way then that's fine by us but we will adjust the configuration
arrangements a bit for our users. I hope that's OK with you.

The beauty of Free Software is that we can all have the version we
want.

Ian.

well this is very easy. It was a script with some formulas which are

Because I thought this is a problem of evince I tried Acrobat Reader

Bug#464118: rm -r broken: Function not implemented

2008-02-26 Thread Michael Stone

On Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 05:09:31PM -0700, you wrote:

So, this seems to be restricted to either older kernels, or kernels with
a specific config.

Since my last email I've had my primary development machine die from bad
capacitors, replaced it, put a new test qemu environment together, tried
a variety of kernels working backward from 2.6.24, 2.6.18, 2.6.17,
2.6.16, and finally had a failure with 2.6.8. (woo-hoo!)

I compiled & ran the test.c I attached earlier in the bug log, and it
fails with the same "function not implmented error" & strace. In my
mind, that suggests that this is a bug in the libc syscall emulation
code rather than coreutils, and my inclination is to reassign to libc.
Anyone have any other thoughts? (One other thought is that it should
simply be downgraded since this shouldn't fail on any kernel released
since etch, and we don't support skipping releases.)

(As for reassigning, the logic is that coreutils checks to see if
unlinkat(2) is present in libc, and it is, so coreutils uses that rather
than its own emulation code. That function works at build time, and
works at run time if /proc is mounted. If proc is unmounted, unlinkat(2)
suddenly fails. I don't think it's reasonable to expect coreutils to
work around that. I do think that coreutils *would* work around that if
unlinkat(2) wasn't present.)

Reproducing this is fairly easy if you install sid into a qemu image &
then install the 2.6.8-4-686 kernel from sarge, as long as your machine
doesn't have puffed up and knocked over capacitors. :-)

Was not sure if this was to be in this bug, my apologies if it shouldn't

I don't think so: one can use xterm without xauth (if one doesn't
use ssh). Moreover openssh-server suggests xbase-clients (I thought
everyone who uses X11 had that), which depends on xauth. But perhaps
openssh-server should recommend xauth.

Bug#468107: gedit: ignores .ssh/config when opening files

2008-02-26 Thread jasen
Package: gedit
Version: 2.20.4-1
Severity: normal

apparently some disagreement over SSH urls between nautilus and gedit
produces recent files that can't be reopened by gedit.

to reproduce:
put settings in ~/.ssh/config aliasing a host name or overiding the default
username etc then open that server using nautilus and then open a file in
gedit, then close the file and attempt to reopen it using the entry in the
file menu.

example .ssh/config:
host thatbox
hostname thatbox.example.com
user someone_else

the remote SSH server in my case is configured to only use publickey
authentication (not password interactive)

Sure, but the configured governor is restored on resume. So what's the
problem?

We want to suspend/hibernate as quickly as possible.
Running 30 secs at fullspeed instead of 60 secs in battery saving mode,
is likely not making a difference in the total energy consumption. So
I'm totally for hibernating as quickly as possible.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#468078: pm-utils: Sets always performance governor on suspend

2008-02-26 Thread Kai Weber

Michael Biebl wrote:

performance governor on suspend. A quick look into the last release of
pm-utils (0.99.4) seems to have fixed this error.

Why is that wrong? Using the performance governor is the most sensible
choice over any over governor.

Two reasons:

1) The user's configuration and preferences should not be ignored.
pm-utils should respect the configured governor or else any
configuration option for the governor (like you can configure it
directly as an option in the kernel or with help of a package like
cpufrequtils) is useless.

2) When it comes to energy/battery saving the performance governor is
the last sensible option.

Please consider packaging this new version?

We will skip 0.99.4 and directly go with the next major upstream release.

Ok.

We use QT with QSettings mechanism for saving config files in a portable way
(i would like to avoid to put any OS specific code inside meshlab)

The mechanism i am going to implement is the following
An asking dialog popup at first run.
The result of the dialog will be saved in a persistent place using qsettings.
If this value is already set No dialog will never popup (so an
installer can set these values before first run)

Hopefully this should suffice :)

Please consider adding an option to dpkg-scanpackages to suppress the
'packages in archive but missing from override file' warning. It would be
useful for repositories that don't have a need to maintain an override file.

Bug#468105: hardinfo: installs modules under /usr/lib64 on amd64

2008-02-26 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: hardinfo
Version: 0.4.2.3-2
Severity: important

hardinfo places its modules in /usr/lib64/hardinfo/modules on amd64
systems, presumably to cater to biarch-style distributions (such as
Red Hat, IIRC). This placement is inappropriate on Debian, where it
can interfere with upgrades of libc6, which owns /usr/lib64 as a
symlink to /usr/lib; could you please disable the relevant logic?

Thanks!

Dear maintainer,

It is not a good idea for this package to be including its own

Sure it does, but I thought that a daemon like sysrq to send kill
and restart commands to a remote computer would be the best
location to implement this functionality, which I think differs from
ssh login in the following situation:

I want to automate this process. Say machine A is my main PC and machine B is
connected via network to A, but should only run when A is running.

With automated shutdown through ssh, you either need a no-password key for B on
A or
you need to make a sophisticated restricted shell set up, where the receiving
end on B
will be of similar complexity as your sysrqd.

Well I'm fine with that and, of course, I can manage my own fork.
I just thought this would be a nice thing to send upstream.

No. But using ssh -v might give some clues. One extra potential
reason:

the target box does not have (the utility) xauth on it.

That was it. I did
aptitude install xauth
and everything was fine.

It looks like the xterm package needs to depend on the xauth package

What package should a bug report for this go to?

Bug#468102: gap-matrix-schreiersims: doc-base file misencoded (Latin-1 vs. UTF-8)

2008-02-26 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: gap-matrix-schreiersims
Version: 0.9.20041122-3
Severity: normal

gap-matrix-schreiersims's doc-base file uses a legacy 8-bit encoding
(ISO 8859-1 or a close variant) to encode the non-ASCII characters in
its Author field. However, some tools assume/expect UTF-8 (or pure
ASCII, which is a subset):

/usr/share/omf/doc-base/gap-matrix-schreiersims-doc/gap-matrix-schreiersims-doc-C.omf:5:

AFAIK, there's no way to arrange for the generated .omf file to
specify a different encoding, so reencoding the original doc-base file
is definitely the way to go; could you please take care of it when you
get a chance?

I know what RDF means. RDF is an abbreviation for radio direction finder. I
guess there are digital RDFs now, and you're packaged python utils for
dealing with then.

Or maybe it's python utils for manipulating a Reuters Data Feed.

Or for a Radial distribution function.

Or one of half a dozen other possible meanings for RDF. [0]

Even though a package is highly specialised, you should make a package
description as understandable as possible by everyday users.

Consider the following (made up) example.

feamodel-utils - utils for manipulating FEA models
Utilities for manipulating FEA models. It supports ABACA, FEDME and FrEA
format models.

feamodel-utils - utils for manipulating Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models
Utilities for manipulating Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models. It
supports ABACA, FEDME and FrEA format models.

The first is pure gobbledygook to anyone who does not recognise the key
acronym. Because they can't understand what you're talking about, you run
the risk of alienating them.

By expanding the key acronym, the second is much more understandable. As
such it's much less alienating. By limiting the key sentence is to words
everybody can understand, it provides all users with sufficient information
to decide whether the package is interesting to them/someone they know.

> I took a look at the current state of affairs w/r to RDF:

Short and long descriptions use RDF in context.

> liblrdf0-dev - liblrdf0 development files
Short description refers to liblrdf0, long description provides context.

> librdf-perl - Perl language bindings for the Redland RDF library
Qualifies RDF in short description, expands RDF in long description.

> librdf-ruby - Ruby 1.8 language bindings for the Redland RDF library
Qualifies RDF in short description, expands RDF in long description.

> librdf0 - Redland Resource Description Framework (RDF) library
RDF expanded and qualified in short description.

> librdf0-dev - Redland RDF library development libraries and headers
Qualifies RDF in short and long descriptions.

> php5-librdf - PHP5 language bindings for the Redland RDF library
Qualifies RDF in short description, expands RDF in long description.

> python-librdf - Python language bindings for the Redland RDF library
Qualifies RDF in short description, expands RDF in long description.

> python-rdflib - RDF library containing an RDF triple store and RDF/XML
Short and long descriptions provide context.

>
> Only one of these packages is expanding the acronym RDF.
>
All of the above either provide context or qualify RDF. Most expand RDF in
the long description.

If you are going to use an acronym from a specialised field as a central
part of the package description, you should either expand or explain the
acronym.

At the absolute least, you need to provide enough context so that the
acronym won't be confused with other possible meanings. Anything less is
just begging to be misunderstood.

> I really don't see the use case here.
>

Package descriptions should as clear as possible to all users. Resource
Description Framework is plain English that all readers can understand.
They may not be familiar with the subject matter, but at least they can
understand the words that you're using. That way you avoid alienating them
with unnecessary jargon.

Bug#468095: dfsbuild: it would be nice if mirroring the repository was optional

2008-02-26 Thread Jiří Paleček

Package: dfsbuild
Version: 1.0.2.0
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I think it would be a useful feature to make downloading the package files
(the first call to cdebootstrap) optional. Basically, on a CD which won't
be used as installation CD, the package files are useless and only take
precious space. Also, cdebootstrap will happily bootstrap a system without
the need of local mirror, and, if you are for example using apt-cacher, it
won't be any slower.

The needed steps to implement this are: allow empty "dlrepos", pass the
real mirror to cdebootstrap when bootstraping (maybe conditionally) and
conditionally skip the step of copying the local repository to the target.

What do you think about this?

Regards
Jiri Palecek

Bug#467515: broken dependency

2008-02-26 Thread Daniel Baumann
As said some hours before, I am back..

Are you familiar with git? I would like to keep maintain the two
packages in their git repositories - this is the easiest way of
collaboration (where we both can merge from each other). If not, I'll
happily teach you what you need to know to get it working for you.

I've looked at your javascript-common package and corrected a few errors
I found, and some cosmetic things (and I replaced cdbs with debhelper,
as cdbs is in my eyes a really big mess; but that's not important now).

However, I would like you to have a look at both the current git
repositories of prototype and scriptaculous (I have changed them to make
use of javascript-common and added you as co-maintainer), and also my
proposed javascript-common changes.

You can check them out with:

git clone
git://git.debian.org/git/users/daniel/debian-daniel/prototypejs.git
git clone
git://git.debian.org/git/users/daniel/debian-daniel/scriptaculous.git
git clone
git://git.debian.org/git/users/daniel/debian-daniel/javascript-common.git

I also would be happy to sponsor a later javascript-common upload.

Did you also had a look at other javascript libs you want to package for
debian?

What are your plans about massbugfilling against other packages having
an embedded copy of prototype or scriptaculous?

Let me know what you think..

Regards,
Daniel

Thanks for the patch.
Does this patch work? --extralib will probably be broken with this patch since
it does:

echo "$(dirname ${REALSO})/${SONAME} usr/lib" >>
"${INSTALLFILE_SHLPKG}"

So, $SONAME shouldn't be lowercased. Only the ${PK} et al.

I assume the following is enough to get this working:

Offhand, and without any other info, this sounds like it might be a DNS
timeout. Do you have domain names in your sudoers file that aren't
resolvable? Running an strace might be instructive.

Bug#379682: mercury: should this package be removed?

Any idea what that is for and if it is even necessary or what it is

As for maintaining this in some VCS system, that shouldn't be an
issue. Just make sure you keep the debian and VCS dirs/files out
of the tarball.

I'm also building
separate packages such as mercury-dev mercury-asmfastgc1-dev mercury-
bin.

I'd be very interested to see what you have achieved.

Hi,

libffcall1-dev is not installed.

+1 here. Currently debian and all other major distributions use unicode
locale, provides applications translations to a lot of non English
languages. And setting font that has no non-latin characters as default is
not so good idea, since there is easy-to-use workaround. As for me, it
should be at least described in README.Debian.

Bug#468088: myspell-pl: please use 'pl' rather than 'pl_PL'

2008-02-26 Thread Piotr Engelking
Package: myspell-pl
Version: 20080222-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch l10n

Currently, myspell-pl installs its dictionary into pl_PL.{aff,dic}.
Including the ISO 3166-1 code in the filenames is, however, unnecessary
here, since Polish language doesn't have competing regional spelling
standards. Please use pl.{aff,dic}, instead.

As an additional benefit, this change allows Iceweasel and other Mozilla
programs to display the dictionary name correctly.

Bug#466879: liferea: date format still not quite right

Liferea reuses code from Evolution to solve certain locale problems
that usually only US users experience because they don't set a locale.
Without a set locale strftime format codes like %P and %l cannot work
because they cannot decide wether 12 or 24h format is necessary.
The workaround code from Evolution does automatically replace %P
with AM and PM according to the current time and also replaces
%l by %H which causes the leading zeros.

This code is 1:1 copied from Evolution and due to it's complexity
I don't intend to change it. I consider the leading zero only a minor
glitch for a workaround due to a incorrect local setup caused by
the user.

Please check your locale and set it to a real one if necessary.

IMO this is no bug.

> Also, is there any way to specify a different font for the date

Liferea has no way to change the font of this column. But you can
use GTK rc-files to set fonts of specific widget. I'm not sure if you
can set only a single GtkTreeView column though.

Best Regards,
Lars

Why is that wrong? Using the performance governor is the most sensible
choice over any over governor.

If crtc1 is already on, why touch crtc0 at all? (Also, if crtc0 is in some
state other than 'on', why switch it off?)

(Tweaking gxine to take more notice of DPMSInfo()'s output should fix one
side of this bug...)

Bug#468086: beagle: cron.daily script not well behaved if package removed but not purged

2008-02-26 Thread Hamish Moffatt
Package: beagle
Version: 0.3.3-2
Severity: normal

If you remove but don't purge beagle,
/etc/cron.daily/beagle-crawl-system remains. The script fails to run
each day because the package has actually been removed, resulting in
cron error emails to root.

Most such cron scripts detect that their binaries are missing and
quietly exit.

Thanks
Hamish
