Bug#472074: Should annoyance-filter be dropped?

2008-03-24 Thread Thomas Scheffczyk

Christoph Berg schrieb am 03/22/2008 02:54 PM:

When fixing GCC 4.3 issues I ran into annoyance-filter. I believe
it should rather be dropped from Lenny:

Speaking as the guy who uploaded the last NMU of that package, I'd
even drop it from unstable.

I didn't manage to contact the author for years. Even the initial
contact was difficult to establish.

I think annoyance-filter should be removed entirely.

Ok, thanks for your opinion. Would you be interested in helping maintaing
tkman?

My problem with tkman is that I don't speak tcl/tk. Upstream development is
stalled, main author is reachable through mail.

Bug#441994: Please update psvn.el

2008-03-24 Thread Андрей Парамонов
Hi!

I add my vote for including newer files from
http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/contrib/client-side/emacs/ into
the package. It will fix some annoying bugs, most notably this one:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/subversion/+bug/113977

Please, consider the possibility to "pull it in" ;-) Thanks!

I don't see the file there, maybe you forgot to upload it?

btw, I can twiddle the state myself but it would be maximally
convenient for me if you could take a snapshot when the problem is
reproducible (i.e., with xfonts-mathml not installed). Either way is
fine, though.

Above is part of the output of "ls -l" on a machine running Unstable with
SE Linux. The directories in question have SE Linux contexts but no ACLs.

There is no point to indicating that a filesystem object has a SE Linux
context as in modern versions of SE Linux every file will have one and
therefore you just get one character of the ls output wasted for no good
reason. Also it makes it less obvious when a file has a POSIX ACL.

I tracked down the problem.

The .shlibs file of libept should be:

  libept 0 libept0 (>= 0.5.15)

instead of:

  libept 0 libept0 (>= 0.5.11)

So that both libept and debtags are built with a newer version of
libwibble, which introduced the need of an extra compiled symbol.

Also, both debtags and libept should build-depend on libwibble-dev >=
0.1.15

I now need to integrate the 1.7.3+nmu1 NMU patch then rebuild the chain
of packages from libept up. I'll see if I can do it later today.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#472587: sysvinit: managing the order of /etc/rc* symlinks is a slowing nightmare

2008-03-24 Thread alex bodnaru
Package: sysvinit
Version: 2.86.ds1-54
Severity: wishlist

hi,

sorry to bother, but here's a snipet of out of box thinking:

instead of setting the number of starting/killing of each init.d
entry, i'd suggest each init.d script should name the processes
it needs to run in order to be started. a list for each runstate
may also help.

from here, package dependencies may be also deduced, like with
shlibs. anyway, guessing the correct number for a new package is
highly problematic.

an user may alter the order by adding processes to the list in a
script.

at init time, a scan of the dependencies should generate up to a
few lists of processes that are unrelated to each other, that may
be run as threads, to save time.

best regards,

alex

Hi everyone,

sorry for the long overdue release, but I (we) tried to address all the
issues directly upstream (so every distro will benefit). A new pm-utils
version is scheduled to be released very soon. We will upload this new
pm-utils as soon as possible.

You don't have to worry that lenny will ship with a buggy pm-utils release.

Cheers,
Michael

P.S: Debian's hal version is also using pm-utils as backend. But I'm not
really sure what you tried to say with that.

Bug#469493: apt-listbugs: 'w' to show list of bugs in browser fails

2008-03-24 Thread Frans Pop
Hi,

Although I understand from the bug report that there are reasons for this
change, it does have quite a large size impact:

--\ Packages being removed because they are no longer used
dA libintl-gettext-ruby1.8 -65.5kB 0.11-110.11-11
idA liblocale-ruby1.8-61.4kB 0.1-6 0.1-6
--\ Packages being automatically installed to satisfy dependencies
piA irb1.8+557kB 1.8.6.114-
pi libgettext-ruby-data +2885kB 1.90.0-1
piA libgettext-ruby1.8+259kB 1.90.0-1
piA libreadline-ruby1.8 +299kB 1.8.6.114-

So, from a very nice 126kB we suddenly go to a whopping 4MB, a factor 32!

Could you please check again if this is all really necessary or that there
are other alternatives?

TIA

In the past, -crop was resizing the image, at least when -geometry
was given. This no longer works. For instance,

  display -crop 88x100+0+4 -resize 176x200 \
/usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/frame.jpg

and

  display -crop 88x100+0+4 +repage -resize 176x200 \
/usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/frame.jpg

both give the cropped image, without resizing, whereas

  convert -crop 88x100+0+4 /usr/share/doc/imagemagick/images/frame.jpg - | \
display -resize 176x200 -

gives the expected result.

I downloaded the certificates, look at their fingerprints with

The SHA1 fingerprint was the same as the one in the PDF document
I wrote the MD5 fingerprint that I got with openssl.

Actually, I'll note down here the procedure to upgrade, so that people
won't be too confused.

'libgettext-ruby1.8' is the culprit, so you have to remove that
package first before upgrading apt-listbugs.

dpkg --remove libgettext-ruby1.8 # (it will break a few things, but force it)
apt-get install apt-listbugs # (it will pull in libgettext-ruby1.8 alongside
with newer apt-listbugs)

Bug#472579: udev: fails to start on rootfs because bind and move mounts don't work

2008-03-24 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: udev
Version: 0.114-2
Severity: minor

When running udev on rootfs (i.e. from initramfs) it fails to start
because all --bind and --move mounts from /etc/init.d/udev will fail
(the kernel gives -EINVAL). Therefore the script stops (set -x) before
udev is started resulting in more severe problems. This problem can
easily be worked around by setting no_static_dev. I suggest detecting
this automatically. Otherwise please forward this bug to the kernel.

Bug#441406: ia32-libs: please include libfltk1.1 libraries

2008-03-24 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: ia32-libs
Version: 2.2
Followup-For: Bug #441406

As fltk1.1's maintainer, I probably ought to comment on this report.
On the one hand, there should be no technical difficulties: FLTK's
libraries are trivial to relocate, as they don't dlopen() anything;
they also don't depend on anything ia32-libs doesn't already provide;
and they're even decently small, adding only about 1M to the package's
size. On the other hand, they're only moderately popular, so I'd
still advise holding off until somebody (Matija?) points out a
concrete example of an interesting application published only as a
dynamically-linked 32-bit binary. (FWIW, I have no intention of
adding biarch support myself, though I'll be happy to participate in
the symmetric multiarch transition if and when that ever occurs.)
