Could you repost the templates file to this bug report to make this
easier ?

I also suggest to not update the templates file without calling for
translation updates/new translations. That may take some time.

Bug#474082: gitosis: couple of new options

2008-04-02 Thread Paul Wise
Package: gitosis
Version: 0.2+20080319-1
Severity: wishlist

I'd like to be able to use a different name for the admin repository
than gitosis-admin.git.

I'd also like to be able to specify a different username for the initial
key/user than the [EMAIL PROTECTED] embedded in the ssh key.

Well, the entire template is pretty big, so I'd like to be sure about
what you propose. We had:

Template: snort{PACKAGE}/address_range
Type: string
Default: 192.168.0.0/16
_Description: Address range that Snort will listen on:
Please use the CIDR form - for example, 192.168.1.0/24 for a block of
256 addresses or 192.168.1.42/32 for just one. Multiple values should
 be comma-separated (without spaces).
 .
If you specify 'any', Snort will listen on all available networks.
 .
Please note that if Snort is configured to use multiple interfaces,
it will use this value as the HOME_NET definition for all of them.

Do you propose:

Template: snort{PACKAGE}/address_range
Type: string
Default: 192.168.0.0/16
_Description: Address range for the local network:
Please use the CIDR form - for example, 192.168.1.0/24 for a block of
256 addresses or 192.168.1.42/32 for just one. Multiple values should
 be comma-separated (without spaces).
 .
Please note that if Snort is configured to use multiple interfaces,
it will use this value as the HOME_NET definition for all of them.

This omits the explanation about 'any', doesn't it?

Bug#474081: command-line option to specify a config file that will be used to contain the default gitosis.conf

2008-04-02 Thread Paul Wise
Package: gitosis
Version: 0.2+20080319-1
Severity: wishlist

Since I want to use URLs like git://foo.bar/git/foo.git and git-daemon
does not support having those style URLs without having a 'git'
directory in its --base-path, I need to hack init.py to be able to set
repositories = git. It would be nice if I could set an arbitrary
gitosis.conf as a template for the real one committed to the
gitosis-admin.git repository.

I filed #474079 for the dpkg-shlibdeps problem we discussed yesterday
on irc. I still have to decide the best course of action while waiting
this to be fixed. (Maybe understanding what goes wrong with
-Wl,--as-needed in ssl-nss.so case could be a good thing, too)

Bug#474080: mpfi: Please add shared library support

2008-04-02 Thread Timothy G Abbott

Package: mpfi
Version: 1.3.4~rc3-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I'm working on packaging SAGE for Debian, which links against libmpfi.
However, I'm getting linking problems on amd64 because libmpfi in debian
is not compiled with -fPIC (as it should be).

The right solution to this is that I should link against the shared
library version of libmpfi which would be built with -fPIC.

Making mpfi build a shared library requires some minor changes to the
Makefile.am and configure.ac files and running autotools (patch attached).
There's additional work that needs to be done in terms of setting up the
right shared library versioning and making the new shared library package
(and ideally convincing upstream to include the shared library), but I've
attached the patch I constructed to build the shared library for my
development use in case it saves you some time.

Bug#474079: /usr/bin/dpkg-shlibdeps: Wrong shlibs when linking a library without using its symbols

2008-04-02 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.14.16.6
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/dpkg-shlibdeps

When a binary links against a library without using its symbols, and the
library is in a package providing .symbols file, dpkg-shlibdeps does put
a reference to the package in shlibs, but without a version number.

e.g.
$ dpkg-shlibdeps -v debian/libnss3-1d/usr/bin/test
Scanning debian/libnss3-1d/usr/bin/test (for Depends field)
Library libxml2.so.2 found in /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2
Library libc.so.6 found in /lib/libc.so.6
Looking up shlibs dependency of libc.so.6 provided by 'libc6'
Found libc6 (>= 2.7-1) in /var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.shlibs
Using symbols file /var/lib/dpkg/info/libxml2.symbols for libxml2.so.2
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: debian/libnss3-1d/usr/bin/test shouldn't be linked
with libxml2.so.2 (it uses none of its symbols).

$ cat debian/substvars
shlibs:Depends=libxml2 , libc6 (>= 2.7-1)

This is what happens without symbols file:
$ dpkg-shlibdeps -v debian/libnss3-1d/usr/bin/test
Scanning debian/libnss3-1d/usr/bin/test (for Depends field)
Library libxslt.so.1 found in /usr/lib/libxslt.so.1
Library libc.so.6 found in /lib/libc.so.6
Looking up shlibs dependency of libc.so.6 provided by 'libc6'
Found libc6 (>= 2.7-1) in /var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.shlibs
Looking up shlibs dependency of libxslt.so.1 provided by 'libxslt1.1'
Found libxslt1.1 (>= 1.1.18) in /var/lib/dpkg/info/libxslt1.1.shlibs
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: debian/libnss3-1d/usr/bin/test shouldn't be linked
with libxslt.so.1 (it uses none of its symbols).

$ cat debian/substvars
shlibs:Depends=libc6 (>= 2.7-1), libxslt1.1 (>= 1.1.18)

While this is not really a problem in such a simple case, it can become
problematic when library packages contain several different libraries,
one of which was not in previous versions of the package.

This is what happens in #474007: /usr/lib/purple-2/ssl-nss.so is linked
against libnssutil3 without using any of its symbols, but libnssutil3
doesn't exist before version 3.7.0~beta2-1 of the libnss3-1d package.

So dpkg-shlibdeps calculates the version dependency without taking into
account libnssutil3 and ends up writing a dependency on older versions,
which don't contain libnssutil3.

Surely, the nss.pc file could be enhanced to do the right thing, but that
won't prevent people linking against libnssutil3 anyways. And strangely,
in this case, -Wl,--as-needed *is* being used when linking
/usr/lib/purple-2/ssl-nss.so, but sadly, it still keeps the dependency
on libnssutil3 while not using its symbols.

Anyways, I think when using no symbol, the minimum version of all symbols
from the library should be used instead of not version. Or maybe the
symbols file should be ignored and the standard shlibs used.

Okay - i grabbed the image from the CF card - this vanilla image has
set:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/exiftran$ exiftran -d 2008040113421201.jpg | grep Orien
  0x0112 Orientationleft - bottom

which is wrong as the image is okay as it is ... After running through
exiftran the image is rotated and the orientation gets set to Top-Left
which seems to be correct thing (although i find the name confusing -
shouldnt it be Top-Top?).

Guess i was just producing noise produced by a strange orientation and
some confusing naming scheme ...

Sorry ...

I downgraded to

ii exiftran 2.05-2 transform digital camera jpeg images
ii libexif12 0.6.13-5etch2 library to parse EXIF files
ii libjpeg62 6b-10 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG runtime li

no success - the orientation flag is still "top - left" but exiftran does
not rotate the image. More interestingly i found exifautotran from the
libjpeg-progs and it also does not rotate the image ...

My best guess is now that somethings broken about the image. Probably
i still have it on the CF Card so i'll try to grab the image again.

Here is the image:

http://silicon-verl.de/home/flo/tmp/test-multiple-exiftran-trys.jpg

This went through "exiftran -ai" multiple times ...

Bug#473927: testing-proposed-updates update fixes problem

2008-04-02 Thread Jack T Mudge III
I hope this is the right spot to post this.

Whatever update to arts was placed in the testing-proposed-updates
repository suggested by the last poster works perfectly to solve the
problem.

Arch: i686, `uname-r` = 2.6.24-1-686
Lenny, with all updates as of April 2, 22:42PST including those from the
testing-proposed-updates repository.

My error was identical to the first poster, to the character.

Hi Manoj,

unfortunately, the problem persist. I can start and stop daemons
without run_init (they run as "root:system_r" instead of
"system_u:system_r", but I guess that is ok?), but run_init still
fails to set the context.

Interesting lines from the strace:

 open("/proc/self/task/3651/attr/current", O_RDONLY) = 3
 read(3, "root:sysadm_r:run_init_t\0", 4095) = 25
 [...]
 open("/proc/self/task/3651/attr/exec", O_RDWR) = 3
 write(3, "system_u:system_r:initrc_t:s0\0", 30) = -1 EINVAL
 close(3) = 0
write(2, "Could not set exec context to sy"..., 61) = 61

I have policycoreutils 2.0.44-1, selinux-policy-refpolicy-targeted
0.0.20080314-1.

Bug#435062: linux-image-2.6.22-1-k7: nforce2 firewire unsupported in new stack, please enable old fw stack

2008-04-02 Thread Frans Pop
A post on lkml today [1] by one of the people working on it makes clear that
the new firewire stack will not get into shape in time for lenny.

At the same time, there is quite a big demand from users for the old stack
because there hardware is not supported by the new one. Some of the
relevant BRs are: 436267, 449272, 450836, 441206, 441179, 435224, 435062,
434551.

Could the kernel team please reconsider making the enabling the old stack
again and use that as the default stack. The new stack could remain
available, but blacklisted for modprobe.

Doing so now would still allow time for feedback from users after the switch
and to document the issue for Lenny (e.g. by creating a wiki page).

Cheers,
FJP

From the Mercurial book[0]:

"The changelog style hints at the expressive power of Mercurial’s
templating engine. This style attempts to follow the GNU Project’s
changelog guidelines"

You can find the reference about the changelog format in the GNU Coding
standars manual[1].

The changelog style is intended to be an automatic way for developers to
create changelogs, based on the repo history. So, the branch data is
totally irrelevant in this case.

If you want to use your custom format, just make your own style
template[2].

Hi,

lintian complains about missing dependencies on update-inetd for some
of the inetutils packages. When fixing those I used inetutils-inetd
instead of openbsd-inetd, as those are part of the same suite, but it
kept complaining (even if inet-superserver was specified as an
alternative dependency).

Attached a patch that adds inetutils-inetd and xinetd to the list.

However, this does not mean that you should support bash2.
It is just a wishlist from bash2 user.
And bash2 user still continue to use the dpatch software at his-own-risk.

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

* Package is seriously out of date.
* Maintainer appears inactive. (Possibly MIA?).
* RC buggy.

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.
Also, you can study the possibility of taking co-maintainers.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, send the following commands

Bug#474075: java-gcj-compat: Should not Provide: java5-runtime-headless

2008-04-02 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Package: java-gcj-compat-headless
Version: 1.0.77-4
Severity: important

Hello,

This bug is related to #471837 against tex4ht which I maintain.
I am planning to close that report by replacing the existing Suggests
with "Suggests: sun-java5-jre | java5-runtime-headless".

Here is the information that is relevant to the maintainers of
java-gcj-compat.

A .jar that was compiled with java-gcj-compat-dev fails to run
to completion with "/usr/bin/java" as installed by this package.

The same .jar runs fine with sun-java5-jre.

To reproduce the error you can download
  http://www.imsc.res.in/~kapil/problems/xtpipes_failed.tar.gz
After unpacking the files and changing to the unpacked directory, you run
  java -jar ./tex4ht.jar xtpipes -i ./xtpipes/ -o junk.out xtpipes_failed.tmp
You can also use "-trace" option to xtpipes to get more information.

Regards,

Kapil.

Hi,

This should have been fixed in the latest set of releases of

That is exactly what Vim does by default. The problem is that you're
specifically telling Vim to ignore the environment for 'encoding' and
therefore need to tell Vim to use a different, possibly incompatible,
encoding when displaying the buffer and interpreting input.

Vim takes the safe choice and always bases 'termencoding' on 'encoding'
unless you tell it to do otherwise. Your suggestion would be to remove
the middle-man ('encoding') and simply have 'termencoding' directly use
the the environment?

Current Vim warns "CONVERSION ERROR" and does NOT write out the file.

Encodings aren't exactly a simple topic. It's not easy to offer good
advice for what to do since Vim basically knows "There are
bytes/characters in this buffer which are not valid in the buffer's
encoding." Those may be valid in more than one encoding (other than the
current one, obviously) and it's up to the user to tell Vim what to do.

Based on the "CONVERSION ERROR" message, Vim is attempting to convert to
the native encoding of the buffer. Automatically changing the buffer to
another encoding is presumptuous of Vim which is why it simply fails.

The typical way to solve this is to tell Vim which encoding you actually
want to use when writing out the file:

  :set fenc=...
  :w

  or

  :w ++enc=...

This still relies on all the characters in the buffer being able to be
represented in the new encoding.

There's an item in Vim's todo list to improve the error message so that
it tells you which column in the line has the conversion error so the
user has more information on which to base their decision

I don't really see a better way of handling this.

Hi,

The documentation is old, obsolete, incomplete, and downright
wrong in parts, and is being abandoned upstream. The documented version

years ago, and the last substantive change was from even earlier.

This is not longer a resource, it is a liability.

Could you elaborate why you think the the tempfile creation is insecure.
FWIW the filters were written after consulting
http://www.linuxsecurity.com/content/view/115462/81/#mozTocId831427

One downside of mktemp -t obviously is, that not all mktemp
implementations support it (admittedly that doesn't affect the one in
Debian).

Bug#474065: Lift the 64000-byte restriction on the size of messages sent to subprocesses.

2008-04-02 Thread Daniel Burrows
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.12
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

This is related to #473874, my patch to lift the 1024-byte limit on
configuration lines. It turns out that once apt is able to parse those
lines, it's unable to run any download or install commands; it generates
this error message:

E: Method http has died unexpectedly!

I tracked this down to a problem in communicating with the subprocess.
The subprocess isn't able to parse the configuration block sent by apt,
and so it dies. The culprit is ReadMessages in contrib/strutl.cc: it
assumes that no single message block is more than 64000 bytes long, and
apparently dumping the apt configuration with some of these translations
included requires more than 64000 bytes.

A patch to fix this is attached. I've tried to preserve the existing
behavior, including (as noted in the patch) what looks to me like a bug
in the parsing algorithm. I have a notion of how to fix it, but that
will take another bus ride's worth of time.

  Daniel

You should file an RM bug against the "ftp.debian.org" pseudo
package. It's usually handled quickly.

Yeah, that part I don't think there's any good fix for,
unfortunately. Schema languages (RELAXNG and W3C XML Schema) don't
really support entities. You have to use an "internal DTD subset"
in each document in order to be use them at all (which then screws
with trying to include those same files by (system entity)
reference into another (parent) doc.

> The other
> part, though, is that nxml doesn't know I'm editing a DocBook file, so

Ah, OK. That at least I know there's a way to handle.

yeah, I understand what you mean now. I should have read your
original mail more carefully...

> You mentioned having the schema "set" to DocBook. I went through the
> nxml-mode help yesterday and didn't see a way to do that; is there an
> Emacs function I have to call to set the schema manually?

The way to do it is a bit opaque/arcane (as is most Emacs stuff I
guess), but there is a way at least:

You need to set the value of the "rng-schema-locating-files"
variable to include the path to a file that contains a custom
"locating rule" that tells Emacs to how to do associations of
files to particular schemas. One way to set that is by including
the following in your .emacs:

  (setq rng-schema-locating-files
(append
  '("~/locatingrules.xml") rng-schema-locating-files-default))

Then, create a ~/locatingrules.xml file (of course you can name
the file whatever you want and put it wherever you want) with the
following content:

  http://thaiopensource.com/ns/locating-rules/1.0";>

That tells nxml-mode that any file which has a refentry element as
its root element should be validated against the DocBook schema.

With the file in place and with the rng-schema-locating-files
variable set to point it, nxml-mode should automatically set the
schema for the manpage.xml file to "DocBook" when you load it.

If the above doesn't work for you, definitely let me know.

  --Mike

P.S. FWIW, there's a system-wide file installed along nxml-mode
that has a default set of locating rules:

  /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/nxml-mode/schema/schemas.xml

hi,

a conflicting package of "nvidia-glx", due to some odd thing with
${shlibs:Depends}. it ends up inserting nvidia-glx in the Depends:.
probably needs to edit anything nvidia- stuff out so it doesn't conflict
with co-uninstallable packages, and also add a Conflicts: on other similar
packages (e.g. nvidia-glx, nvidia-glx-legacy-96xx).

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * Last maintainer upload was in 2003
 * Uses the ancient standards version 3.5.9
 * There are some packaging issues (lintian report)
 * Very few users
 * Uses the deprecated debhelper compat level 1
 * It has bug reports with no maint response for five years

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):

I'm currently using GStreamer and probably will for a while since it's
being used by an application currently in production. I could help out
and take over maintenance, as long as it becomes part of Debian Perl
Packaging Project [1].

I created a separate file for each of these scenarios and verified that
they were iso-8859-1 encoded. I then opened each file using this
command:

env LANG=es_ES.ISO-8859-1 vim -u NONE -U NONE testfile

Running the Vim command ":set enc? fenc?" I verified that Vim detected
each file as latin1 since 'enc' was set to latin1 and 'fenc' was empty
(and therefore the same as 'enc').

I tried the steps above 3 more times with LANG set to es_ES.UTF-8,
en_US.UTF-8, and en_US.ISO-8859-1. When LANG was set to a UTF-8
encoding, 'enc' was utf8 and 'fenc' was latin1 as expected. In other
words, every permutation I tried work properly.

The one "problem" I ran into was when I was using the ISO-8859-1
locales. The file did not display properly but that was because I was
running xterm in utf8 mode and had to set Vim's 'tenc' option to utf8.

Are you still able to reproduce the problem? If so, could you tell me
what piece of the puzzle I'm missing here? :)

Thanks for the patch. Unfortunately, there are a couple issues...
First, other files, such as .changes and .dsc, do not follow this
convention, so the behavior should be limited to Release files. Second,
the behavior itself isn't consistent across archive tools. It appears
that dak behaves as you describe, making the size field as long as the
longest size. However, apt-ftparchive makes the field 16 characters
long, regardless of the longest size.

I don't have a particular preference -- perhaps it'd be nice for the
Release class to have some attribute defining which behavior to use. It
would also be nice for the input parser to detect this, so that a
Release object made from a Release file would dump the exact input...

I'll see what I can come up with...

The problem is probably with librapi2-tools (my package).
I'll sort this and upload it ASAP.

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply; I'll wait about a month for anyone to come up and adopt
elog (Nico: unless the testing/ security team really doesn't want to see this
package in the archive any longer :). If after a month nobody shows up I'll

I was wondering, why elfsh should not be orphaned (or even removed) before
eresi is packaged?

If you really don't want any action to be performed on elfsh, could you then
please provide some information about your erasi ITP?

Note that, just like Lucas, I'm not interested in inform myself, but just
checking packages that should probably be removed.

It would be nice if you could provide some status information or even closing

Bug#473973: [pkg-boost-devel] Bug#473973: libboost-python-dev: rdeps fails to built - python packaging seems weird

2008-04-02 Thread Ben Burton

Hi Sune,

> but we test afterwards if it is actually build.

As an aside, what I've done with regina-normal (which also uses
boost.python) is make debian/rules check the config.log immediately
after configure finishes, to see whether it plans to build in
boost.python or not. This means it can detect the problem (and abort
accordingly) at the beginning of the build, which could be useful
if kdeedu still takes as long to build as I remember it used to. :)

Bug#474053: python2.5-minimal: looks like Python 2.5, but isn't

2008-04-02 Thread Simon McVittie
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: python2.5-minimal
Version: 2.5.2-2
Severity: normal

python2.5-minimal contains /usr/bin/python2.5 but does not provide a
normal Python 2.5 environment. This is likely to cause anything that
automatically detects the "best" version of Python to behave strangely.

python2.4-minimal and python-minimal have an equivalent bug.

A possible fix would be to move the executable to, for instance,
/usr/lib/python2.5/python, and have the full python2.5 package provide a
symlink /usr/bin/python2.5 -> /usr/lib/python2.5/python.

Packages using the minimal variant of Python could either use this path
directly (all the rdepends appear to be very Debian-specific, apart from
gramps which is probably a mistake in the dependencies), or rely on
new symlinks like /usr/bin/python2.5-minimal -> /usr/lib/python2.5/python in
the python*-minimal packages.

For a concrete example of the problems this can cause, get
telepathy-sofiasip 0.5.6~pre20080402-0 (an upstream prerelease, with the
same packaging as the current sid version) from experimental, and compile
it in a sid chroot where there are initially no Python-related packages,
as follows:

$ apt-get build-dep telepathy-sofiasip
$ apt-get install python2.5-minimal
$ dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc
[the build fails]
$ apt-get remove python2.5-minimal
$ dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc
[the build succeeds]
$ apt-get install python2.5-minimal
$ dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc
[the build fails again]

The failures look like this:

(sid)[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp$ cd telepathy-sofiasip-0.5.6~pre20080402/
(sid)[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/telepathy-sofiasip-0.5.6~pre20080402$ debuild -us

This is controlled by the -L flag. -LLL will give you pure LDIF without

And to be very clear, ldapsearch already sends its errors to stderr:

Hi,

Since the status of this package has not evolved, I am now orphaning it.
I still plan to request its removal in the near future, but this orphaning
could allow someone to adopt the package if appropriate.

Please reply to this bug report either if you feel that this package should
not be removed or you think it _should_ be removed, as this will allow to make
the process quicker.

Are you still interested in adopting this package? if so please provide some

Is there anyone in the perl group interested in adopting this package?
Is there anyone in the gstreamer maintainers list interested in adopting this

Bug#474051: libhdf5-serial-dev: libhdf5 appears to write uninitialized memory to file

2008-04-02 Thread Jason Kraftcheck
Package: libhdf5-serial-dev

Justification: user security hole

valgrind reports writes of unitialized memory in hdf5 library. This

As I said above, I think almost any practical use of the library will
cause this. But just in case the error is due to a gross misunderstanding
of how I should use this library, here's the test code I used to generate
the above output:

int main()

Bug#474052: [checks/manpages]: cannot adjust line, ... issues are not considered on localized man pages

2008-04-02 Thread Daniel Leidert
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.46
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

We were wondering, why lintian did not complain with a
manpage-has-errors-from-man warning for a localized manpage, that showed a
"cannot adjust line" warning. The problem seems to be, that the
if-statement, that should avoid the "cannot find numbered character"
warning for localized manpages also excludes the other issues, although
they are IMO not a locale problem. Insteda they are a GROFF issue, that
can be fixed indendent from the locale.

I attach the patch to show the problem and the possible fix.

If I'm wrong with my guess, please simply close this report.

Regards, Daniel

Bug#474050: RFP: jaxer -- headless iceweasel

2008-04-02 Thread OuoU
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: jaxer
  Version : 0.9.6
  Upstream Author : Aptana
* URL or Web page : http://www.aptana.com/jaxer/download
* License : GPL
  Description : iceweasel headless

A headless web browser is important for running JS applications on
a server and for testing applications.

>From the web page:

Modern web sites and applications use Ajax to create engaging user
experiences: the HTML and CSS are set in motion using JavaScript
running in the browser and calling back the server. To achieve this,
the server needs to prepare the web page appropriately, and to know
what to do when the JavaScript calls it. But the server knows nothing
about the HTML and CSS DOM, nor how to handle JavaScript data, and you
can't code it in JavaScript...

...Jaxer changes all that. Jaxer is the world's first true Ajax
server. HTML, JavaScript, and CSS are native to Jaxer, as are
XMLHttpRequests, JSON, DOM scripting, etc. And as a server it offers
access to databases, files, and networking, as well as logging,
process management, scalability, security, integration APIs, and
extensibility.

It should be "alsaplayer -d hw:PCM2702 ...", which seems to be the
normal naming convention within alsa. (e.g. aplay recognizes the same
device string.) So I don't know if this is something that should be
documented in the alsaplayer manpage.

Bug#474048: isdnbutton: should this package be removed?

Source: isdnbutton
Version: 2.6-970413-16
Severity: important

Usertags: proposed-removal

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * It is up for adoption since 2002, with no input on the report ever
 * It seems to be dead upstream (couldn't find it anywhere)
 * It has very few popcon users (12 insts, 1 vote; 20 insts being the max)

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):
severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug.

Thank you,

Bug#415056: mercurial: Install examples systemwide

2008-04-02 Thread Gerardo Curiel
The scripts provided in the contrib/ directory aren't official part of
mercurial. Some are useful, but others have some problems or are
worthless to be added.

About the examples:

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/vim/:

I agree with having the vim files installed system-wide by default. I'll
work on it.

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hgweb.cgi
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hgwebdir.cgi
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hgwebdir.fcgi:

I think the web stuff must be keep in the examples dir, not everybody
uses it, or at least, not in every host(I have it enabled in a server,
but not in my desktop or laptop).

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/git-viz/:

Git-viz use the now deprecated hgit command, and add additional
dependencies, so it's worthless to add it.

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/rewrite-log
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hgdiff:

Completely undocumented scripts.

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/zsh_completion.gz
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/tcsh_completion:

Debian's default shell is bash, so those completion files are useless in
a default system.

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hgeditor:

Can't be installed in /usr/bin, this script lets you adjust the default
editor and settings when committing, using the the HGEDITOR environment
variable. So, it's intended to be customized.

/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hg-relink
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hg-ssh
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/hgsh/
/usr/share/doc/mercurial/examples/simplemerge:

I can't say much about those scripts(hgsh is a C program):

* They are Poorly documented
* They have just a reduced set of features, Read the comments(if any)
for more info.
* Just cover a reduced set of cases, IHMO.

And the darcs2hg and convert-repo script are deprecated, it's encouraged
to use 'hg convert' now.

I'll finish the new package form mercurial 1.0, and work in the vim
addons for the next revision.

Do you agree about just use the vim stuffs system-wide?

Bug#472148: Causes FTBFS on mips (because it uses gcc-4.3 now)

2008-04-02 Thread Thiemo Seufer
severity 472148 serious
thanks

This bug causes a FTBFS on mips (and presumably for any clean-chroot
build which already uses gcc-4.3).

Thiemo

Bug#471458: Fixed!

2008-04-02 Thread Alex Seidanis [Deja Vu]
I had a similar error with version 2.3.0 of Calc, on a previously Excel
file that I had later saved in ods format. It started happening right
after I renamed the Excel-defined ranges of data into something more
meaningful for me (Greek names). The file then could not be saved in any
of my PC's (all running Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon), but I also couldn't
rename those ranges back.

What I did to fix it was:
1. I unzipped the ods file
2. I used nano to open the content.xml file for editing
3. Using Alt+R I searched and replaced all the names I had given to data
ranges, with others, using latin characters this time
4. I saved the content.xml file and exited nano
5. I zipped everything back together and changed the .zip extension back
to .ods
6. I opened the file in OO and everything was working like a clock.

I hope this helps.

Alex Seidanis

Bug#474047: RM: rosegarden2,rosegarden4 RoM; NBS - no longer needed transitional packages

2008-04-02 Thread Mike O'Connor
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

rosegarden2 and rosegarden4 were transitional packages for users
upgrading from sarge->etch to give them the rosegarden package. The
rosegarden source package is no longer building them; please remove
them from unstable.

Thanks,
stew

Hi !

Ok.

Again, did you submit upstream ?

Again, no, but I have now done so. :)

Same question; was it submited upstream ? :)

This issue had already been reported on their wiki (
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:LDAP_Authentication#error_in_creation_of_dn_for_new_user ) by someone else, and is apparently fixed in
the next version.

Bug#470684: can't upgrade

2008-04-02 Thread jidanni
OK, now apt is OK. I hate those windows of time when apt acts like
that and wish someone who knows why would fix apt or the mirroring system.

Bug#472283: Ack..

	Hi

Ok, it seems a good fix, I'll consider it.

Did you submit it upstream ? It would be much more easy for me to have it
fixed in the SVN..

No, I generally file Debian bugs before going upstream, as I don't know what changes the maintainers make to the source. Some devs get uppity when you
file a bug that isn't in their code :)

I've reported the issue as in my email on their wiki.
