Honestly, I would prefer to see this package in the hand of specialists
(hello, Debian Perl :) On the other hand, I do not want to rudely dump
packages in their hands...

I will ask for a Debian-Med sponsor in one week if nobody touched the
package.

Thanks for your work Charles. I added it to bio-dev task. Was the
remark above intended a first comers first serves matter so whoever
it takes over in his repository wins? To be honest I do not really
care about whic team finally "wins" as long as the package is inside

Both we are sure of that is not very coherent, but a Debian testing release
calls the programs in the directory if-up.d with this value when the
interfaces are started from KDE Network Manager.
in this case the problem could be of Network Manager ?

I don't know the difference between reload and restart,
Is that reload scans for new interfaces without closing active connections,
and restart finishes the daemon and starts again the program ?

In some daemons, to send a reload signal causes that immediately is executed
the process of verification, instead of wait for exhausting a certain
interval of time.

In the case that this daemon works in this way, to send the reload signal
should cause that the program will respond immediately to the changes of the
network.

I think hppa still uses it.

The -D_REENTRANT might also be used in other libraries that can be
compiled to support threads or not. But those might also be using some
other options. I think we should just say that all libraries should
get build with thread support if they support it.

Bug#475335: ITP: libbio-mage-perl -- Container module for classes in the MAGE package: MAGE

2008-04-09 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Charles Plessy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

  Package name: libbio-mage-perl
  Version : 20030502.3
Upstream Author : © 2001-2006 The MicroArray Gene Expression Database Society
(MGED)
  URL : http://mged.sourceforge.net/
  License : MIT/X11
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Container module for classes in the MAGE package: MAGE

MAGE-TAB (MicroArray Gene Expression Tabular) format is a standard from the
Microarray Gene Expression Data Society (MGED). This package contains Perl
modules in the Bio::MAGE hierarchy to manipulate MIAME-compliant (Minimum
Information About a Microarray Experiment) records of microarray ("DNA chips")
 experiments.
 .
The Bio::MAGE module contains the following Bio::MAGE classes:
* NameValueType
* Extendable
* Identifiable
* Describable

Although I have Debian tasks of higher priority, I made this package at work
because
I need it for work.

I sent a copy of this email to the Debian Perl team: this package is perl-only
and
and available from SourceForge and CRAN. If you are interested by maintaining
it in
your repository, just hijack it :) I have upladed it to Mentors:

Bug#475333: FTBFS on parallel build (dpkg-buildpackage -j)

2008-04-09 Thread Robert Millan
Package: qt-x11-free
Version: 3.3.8b-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Fails to build from source on parallel build (dpkg-buildpackage -j2) due to
a race condition in debian/rules.

The first hunk fixes that, the rest fixes improper use of "make" that discards
make flags, making -j parameter useless.

I must have misunderstood the comment. My understanding was that it
would only crash in some settings and for some users/machine types,
not every time the state was non-normal. If it crashes every time the
state is non-normal, I agree that it is a grave issue, as it make the
package unusable or mostly so. Does it? These are the definitions I
use to decide which severity it deserves:

  grave
makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes
data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the
accounts of users who use the package.
  important
a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package,
without rendering it completely unusable to everyone.

Happy hacking,

Bug#475130: eats first Received header

2008-04-09 Thread Mike Markley
Are you seeing any "found possible spoofed header" messages in your
syslog (facility mail, level notice)? Looking through the source code,
it doesn't appear that spfmilter even attempts to delete other
Received-SPF headers unless it detects ones it thinks are spoofed, and
even when it does decide to do so, it specifies Received-SPF as the
header name to delete. The Milter function that actually deletes the
header (smfi_chgheader()) actually takes a header name to act upon, so
even if the filter was detecting (or mis-detecting) a spoofed
Received-SPF header, the only way it could request the deletion of
a Received header is if you've changed HEADER_NAME in spfmilter.c.

I'd like to learn a little more about your test setup to see if I can
reproduce this locally. Can you send me the relevant snippets of your
postfix main.cf or master.cf?

Bug#475331: plib1.8.4c2: Shared libraries are not linked with their dependencies

2008-04-09 Thread Ove Kaaven
Package: plib1.8.4c2
Version: 1.8.4-8
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.2

If you really insist on building shared libraries for plib, they should be
done properly. Ideally, it should be possible to build against it without
having to tweak any makefiles to compensate for unexpected inter-library
dependencies. After all, authors will expect that only pieces of an .a file
gets pulled in, but if you link against a .so, you end up linking the whole
thing, including parts you don't need or want, and that may depend on other
libraries.

Currently, makefiles typically do need to be tweaked, because the plib shared
libraries are currently not linked against whatever they're depending on.

And that last thing is a policy violation, as, starting with policy version
3.6.0, section 10.2 has been saying:

"shared libraries must be linked against all libraries that they use symbols
from in the same way that binaries are."

For example, libplibssg.so seems to use symbols from libplibsg.so,
libplibul.so, and libGL.so, but isn't linked against them.

Now, my own simgear package currently suffers from similar problems, but
I've been working on a build system to fix it, it will be in simgear 1.0.0-3.
If you don't want to invent your own system, you could probably look at and
adapt my system if you like. My simgear upload is probably stuck in NEW
right now (I renamed the package), but I also put it up at
http://people.debian.org/~ovek/ just in case.

Bug#474115: aptitude: Got SIGABRT, dying..

2008-04-09 Thread Daniel Burrows
On Tue, Apr 08, 2008 at 07:02:43PM +0400, Aleksey Midenkov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
was heard to say:
> Have posted aptitude-create-state-bundle output:
>
> http://midenkov.narod.ru/aptitude_state.bz2

OK, I can verify that the abort happens and that it's fixed by the
patch I wrote. For future reference for myself or anyone else: to
reproduce the bug you have to set APT_CONFIG to point at the apt.conf in
this test case and edit apt.conf to include an absolute path to the
desired include file (or add a literal include). This is a deficiency
in aptitude-run-state-bundle, but also in apt (there doesn't seem to be
a combination of path overrides that will cause it to read a different
apt.conf, so a-c-s-b can't cause the configuration file in the bundle to
be read).

I haven't figured out why apt is behaving this way yet and I haven't
verified for myself that it is preserved across updates, but I can
confirm that sections are coming up empty. "apt-cache show gsfonts-other"
prints:

Package: gsfonts-other
Section:
Installed-Size: 1728
 (...)

Bug#474115: aptitude: Got SIGABRT, dying..

2008-04-09 Thread Daniel Burrows
To follow up to my last comment, about not knowing why the Section
field was empty, it appears that I was confused about the earlier
report. I had gotten the impression that the Section field wasn't empty
in the package list file, but that's not true:
/var/lib/apt/lists/local/_var_local_mirror_..._Packages contains this
stanza:

Package: gsfonts-other
Section:
Installed-Size: 1728
 (...)

  This seems to be from

deb file:/var/local/mirror/debian/ unknown main contrib non-free

  in sources-local.list.  So in fact apt is not buggy in this case;
the Packages file is just unusual and hitting a bad corner case of
aptitude's grouping code. (in case you're curious, it looks like
the ldso stanza also has an empty Section)

This should work in the next upload of aptitude. Thanks for the
report.

  Daniel

Bug#462236: Please support very large tiff files

2008-04-09 Thread Jon Bernard
Can you make your large tiff file publicly available?

Do you see any errors from feh? This could possibly be a bug in imlib2,
but it's too early to tell.

Any additional information you can provide (error messages, return code,
etc) would be much appreciated.

Bug#475329: iceweasel: "Report Broken Web Site" is broken

2008-04-09 Thread Ted Percival
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.0~b5-1
Severity: normal

The "Report Broken Web Site..." option in the Help menu seems to be
nerfed, maybe as part of Iceweasel rebranding. There are two problems:

- The Privacy Policy pane is empty.
- The dialog does not actually submit a report. It seems to be missing
a second dialog where the user provides more information before
  submitting the report.

Possibly related to upstream bug #374666:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=374666 where a user reports
that the Privacy Policy is blank on Mac OS X.

I checked the extensions.reporter.privacyURL setting as mentioned in the
upstream bug report and it is set to the default,
http://reporter.mozilla.org/privacy/

Hi,

This looks like a kernel issue / incompatibility. Try one of these at
the boot prompt:

install pci=nomsi
install pci=nomsi pci=noacpi nolapic noapic acpi=off

Bug#474648: seccomp is zero runtime overhead

2008-04-09 Thread Andrea Arcangeli
Hello,

The story about seccomp is that as long as there are users CPUShare
will support it because it's a more efficient and more secure
computing model.

About the seccomp overhead, that is zero. It adds zero overhead to the
fast path of the scheduler. It never added any overhead on x86-64. For
x86 I added a tsc_disable feature that wasn't zero overhead initially
and so that was used as argument against seccomp (despite it really
had little to do with the seccomp core), it is zero overhead now that
I optimized that little tsc_disable feature.

So you can always enable seccomp on x86-64 without performance
worries (I guess it only adds an hundred byte of .text).

On x86 you can enable seccomp as safely as on x86-64 if you find a
TIF_NOTSC implemented in your x86 32bit kernel. TIF_NOTSC is zerocost
and so after implementing TIF_NOTSC, I changed seccomp to use it to
avoid any overhead in all archs.

In the latest kernels the only overhead generated by seccomp is a bit
larger .text image, everything else is false or obsolete.

Bug#475326: dirsplit: filter cannot exclude (contrary to doc)

2008-04-09 Thread Martin Stolle
Package: genisoimage
Version: 9:1.1.7.1-1
Severity: normal

the documentation incorrectly states that the "filtering" parameter ( -f
) can be used to exclude specific files by prepending it with an
exclamation mark. That is incorrect and will in fact result in the
matching pattern to become "1". It doesn't seem to be possible to
exclude directories with any matching pattern!

Bug#475327: evince maps window with incorrect size

2008-04-09 Thread Ivan Jager
Package: evince
Version: 2.20.2-1
Severity: minor

I'm having some trouble reproducing this, but here is what happened:
 1. I clicked on a pdf in galeon, and let it open it with evince.
 2. Evince popped up and got placed by the window manager (AFAICT)
 3. Evince loaded the document, and resized itself, such that it's placement
was stupid. (a good chunk of it ended up on the other monitor)

When I try to reproduce it, it now opens the window with it's previous
geometry, and stays that way after loading the PDF.

After further experimentation, it seems that it uses the previous geometry
for a document of the same page size (remembering multiple
geometry -> page_size mappings) and only does the stupid resizing when it
encounters a document with a new page size.

Sorry, but I think xpdf does the right thing here...

Bug#472675: SuperTuxKart didn't start

2008-04-09 Thread Joerg Henrichs
Hi,

googling for the error messages shows a lot of threads. Apparently there are
at least three different reasons:
1) problems with mesa (esp. redhat 7.0/7.2)
That's probably not the case here
2) problems with the opengl installation
(mixture of header files and libs)?
3) different pthread implementations, e.g.:

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=20041230225951.L51485%40c1518.nl.compuware.com
"glIsValidContext() fails when there is a mismatch in the pthread
implementation between different libraries used by Plib."

and:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=20050112024345.L67287%40c1518.nl.compuware.com
"When I configure ttt3d with
#!/bin/sh
prefix=/usr/local/cvs-plib
env LDFLAGS="-pthread -L$prefix/lib" \
CPPFLAGS="-pthread -I$prefix/include" \
./configure --prefix=$prefix --with-GL=/usr/X11R6
gmake

it runs just fine.
"
Note the -pthread.

Does adding -pthread to plib/STK compilation (not sure that STK needs it though)
solve this issue?

Otherwise: I don't think that this is a SuperTuxKart problem, it looks more
like a plib issue to me. But if there is anything we can do to help, please
let us know.

Cheers,
   Joerg (STK admin)

Thank you for the information. In future, do mark the version in which
the closure occurred using the "Version" pseudo header, while mailing

Thanks again.

Bug#475323: netgen: Undefined symbols in libraries

2008-04-09 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Package: libnetgen-dev
Version: 4.4-12

Hi,

There are a couple of missing symbols in netgen while building Salomé:

/usr/lib/libnetgen_interface.so: undefined reference to `netgen::vssolution'
/usr/lib/libnetgen_interface.so: undefined reference to `netgen::tcl_interp'
/usr/lib/libnetgen_visualization.so: undefined reference to
`netgen::AddVisualizationScene(std::basic_string,
std::allocator > const&, netgen::VisualScene*)'

These are all defined in ngtcltk/ngpkg.cpp which is unfortunately not
included in any of the libs.

I don't quite understand why this is a problem now; 4.4-9 did not have
this problem before February, but developed it sometime in March.
Perhaps the toolchain now checks the entire lib for dependencies,
instead of the symbols in use?

I'm investigating a patch, hope to have one by tomorrow.

Regards,
-Adam

Asheesh,

I've been using this patch on two servers for over a year and have had

The same seems to happen for any input, not just /dev/null. The only
oddity I know of in my tex setup is that I've "equived" out tetex-bin to
avoid dragging in the whole of texlive (through those packages still
depending on tetex-bin).

There's some problem with mediatomb's web UI using the new prototype.js, so
this won't be a quick fix. The prototype.js embedded in mediatomb is version

Bug#451791: [965G EXA] Fonts and many other items fail to render legibly

2008-04-09 Thread Sam Morris
Hi, I think I may have run into this bug. No anti-aliased text renders
on my display, but if I hit alt-f2 I can run xterm fine.

My video card:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a02] (rev 03)

Putting 'Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"' in xorg.conf fixes the problem.

Please let me know if I can help debug this!

There's an annoying regression in this version of wine. Some control
elements (at least list views and combo boxes, but not text fields or
command buttons) cannot be left with the Tab, Return or Esc keys any
more, that's a major usability problem for mouse haters like me. :-(

fyi, this is pending in the stable-queue so should propagate into
Debian's 2.6.24 as a matter-of-course.

Bug#475266: third iteration

2008-04-09 Thread Kevin B. McCarty
Third iteration of mbox folding: take into account that header field
names (Subject, From) are case-insensitive, and allow tab(s) as well as
space(s) to follow them.

Sorry for all the noise, this should be the final version.

best regards,

I don't understand why, but even with the correct version of libcairo2-dbg
installed, gdb still isn't identifying those crucial Cairo functions (see
attached). Any suggestions as to why, and how to get more information?

ipw3945 didn't create that file; this should be handled in udev, which needs
to be able to correct the rules there that are only compatible with old
modules.

There is a corresponding (release-critical) bug in Ubuntu about this issue;
please see .

Ahem. This was because you split up the package, and I did not have
network-manager-vpnc-gnome. Are there plans to make
network-manager-vpnc depend on network-manager-vpnc-gnome or otherwise
make sure users don't get trapped by this? The error message is quite
unobvious.

This one doesn't try to do folding if the mbox file doesn't start with a
"From" header. Also it deals correctly with blank header fields that
have no space immediately after the header name (like "Subject:" rather
than "Subject: ") and accounts for line numbers in Vim starting at 1
(not 0).

In case a license statement is necessary: I hereby release the attached
file fold-mail.vim to the public domain.

best regards,

Bug#475316: git-import-orig: automatically rename upstream tarball

2008-04-09 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.4.22
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/git-import-orig

Hi,

this has happened for me already twice, so I thought it might be time
for a bug report:
I downloaded the new upstream tarbal, forgot to rename it to
_orig.tar.gz and ran git-import-orig on the upstream tarball.
In such a case, git-import-orig should be clever enough to automatically
rename the tarball to _orig.tar.gz (or abort the import).
Otherwise, what ends up in the pristine-tar branch is broken.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#475312: Might other "integer-overflow vulnerabilities in malloc() calls" be the cause of #475312?

2008-04-09 Thread Sylvain HITIER
Hello,

I've just reported the bug #475312 against iceweasel:
"iceweasel crashes with SIGPIPE when rendering a SVG file"

However this looks like a bug against libcairo2...
I suggest that other "integer-overflow vulnerabilities in malloc() calls" be
the cause of it.

As you've just NMU'ed a security fix for this lib, I suggest you have a look
at my bug report: you're surely able to investigate deeper than I did!

(BTW, the bug exists with the NMU'ed lib.)

Regards,
Sylvain HITIER

Bug#475312: iceweasel crashes with SIGPIPE when rendering a SVG file

2008-04-09 Thread Sylvain HITIER
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.13-0etch1
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

=== What I did... ==

I created the "iceweasel-bug-svg-user" pristine profile.
I installed iceweasel-dbg package.

I disabled the plugins:
prompt$ ls -l ~/.mozilla/plugins /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins
ls: /home/sylvain/.mozilla/plugins: No such file or directory
ls: /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins: No such file or directory

I stopped the network interface.

MALLOC_CHECK_ and valgrind see no problems.
strace shows an interesting thing...

=== I can send more files ==

I can send the SVG file (9 MiB, 2.9 MiB bzip'ped), if ever you distrust your
download despite of all the checksums I provided... :-)

I can send a core dump (187 MiB, bz2: 11 MiB).

I can send the strace files of all threads (tar.bz2: 274 KiB).

I didn't include these files because of their size.
If you want them, please tell me how can I send them to you.

Bug#446062: zaptel-source: Module build fails for cross compile

2008-04-09 Thread Adrian Bridgett
the kernel-image builds just fine with this FWIW so there might be
some useful stuff there.

The information is certainly a little thin on the ground, drbd8 has
some stuff, but that then tries to call amd64-linux-gcc (which
admitedly I did actually have from
http://www.debian-administration.org/users/jonesy/weblog/1)

http://wiki.debian.org/DebianAMD64Faq says that this is how the kernel
should be built.

What would be interesting is what the correct calls are (the
amdwrappers tarball from the first URL calls objcopy and objdump as
is, but adds "--target=elf64-x86-64" to nm, "-melf_x86_64" to ld and
adds "-m64" to gcc (removing -m32 if it is present).

Perhaps it's be worth asking the kernel maintainers for some guidance?

Adrian

Bug#464580: Seeing the Same with NVIDIA Cards

2008-04-09 Thread sheridan
 Hi Brice,
I was googling this exact same backtrace and though I would share my
findings.
It seems that this exact same backtrace happens on my desktop with
it's NVIDIA 8800GT proprietary driver installed.
Given the same backtrace is seen on a machine where the intel driver
package isn't even installed let alone used, doesn't this place the
blame with some certainty on the xserver itself?
It's a really annoying bug that shows up at least 4 times a day if
not more for me.
 See this as a reference:

Bug#475310: ipw3945d: clear udev rules after remove

2008-04-09 Thread hedges
Package: ipw3945d
Severity: normal

Cannot upgrade to iwl3945/iwlwifi without removing
/etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules, which will be regenerated,
otherwise udev leaves interface as wlan0_rename in a half-zombie
state that keeps network-manager from running scripts appropriately. So
the purge rules for this package should clear that file and recommend
reboot, or edit that file appropriately to remove the entry inserted by
udev when ipw3945 is loaded. See Bug#465471. Thank you.

Mark

Excellent! Interface is now wlan0. I will file a bug on ipw3945d
that it should clear that file when it is removed.
