Bug#487254: manpages-dev: *scanf may set errno to ERANGE

In the GNU and UC versions of the libc (at least), the
scanf/fscanf/sscanf... functions seem to be calling strtoxxx
 internally for number conversions.

In doing so, errno may be set to ERANGE when the input doesn't

figures not in the requested base.

For information, dietlibc's scanf doesn't exhibit that behavior.
On other Unices, it seems to vary, and it doesn't seem to be
 often clearly documented.

Hi Stephane,

Thanks for the note. I will look at this a bit more. I see you sent
a note into the Austin list about this. Two things: it's alway worth
CCing me on such notes, since I do follow Austin. second: you may
make more headway by raising a proper bugreport against the standard
-- these bug reports are called Aardvarks. Look on the Austin site
for info.

Cheers,

Michael

Bug#487485: postgrey: domains in whitelist_recipients file no longer being matched

2008-06-22 Thread Bob Cox
Package: postgrey
Version: 1.31-2.1
Severity: important

Entries in /etc/whitelist_recipients which are just a domain are no longer
working. This problem was not present prior to my
upgrading to 1.31.

This bug has been reported in the postgrey mailing list but apparently not
acted upon: see
http://lists.ee.ethz.ch/postgrey/msg02135.html - this report also includes a
fix which works for me.

Bug#480818: Don't build depend on libxul-dev

With pkg-config libxul it almost works. The embedded browser seems to
load because it replaces the Loading... splash screen that Azureus
displays, but all I get is a white background. It seems to be almost
working though. I don't see any error messages on the console.

Where do I go from here?

It looks like all you need is to add the xpcom initialization code. The
embedding variant needs explicit xpcom loading. You can check how it is
  done in impl_init() in mozilla-embed-single.cpp in epiphany-browser
source, or xulrunner_init() in mozilla.cpp in kazehakase source.
You will need to #include gtkmozembed_glue.cpp in the source file
  doing the initialization.

 Hi Mike,

Thanks for your help so far. I'm starting to get the impression that
modifying SWT-GTK to support xulrunner 1.9 is not a trivial amount of
work, and that it may be a better plan until upstream supports
xulrunner 1.9 explicitly. Since they'll be doing this work anyways,
it's a duplication of effort for me to be doing it now, and they'll
certainly do a better job of it than I will hacking and slashing code
 together.

How close do you think I am to fixing this? If you'd care look at it
yourself, the function that is failing is

 XPCOM.NS_NewLocalFile in Mozilla.create in Mozilla.java:332.
 which calls
 NS_1NewLocalFile in xpcom.cpp:94
 which calls
 NS_NewLocalFile
 which returns
 Browser: org.eclipse.swt.SWTError: XPCOM error -1041039359
 which corresponds to NS_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED.

I couldn't immediately see the relation between this function and
 impl_init from mozilla-embed-single.cpp from epiphany-browser.

Could you send your current patch against the last version of swt-gtk in
unstable ?

Mike

Bug#487487: libpam-unix2: package is compiled without blowfish support

2008-06-22 Thread Drew Hess
Package: libpam-unix2
Version: 2.5.0-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

libpam-unix2 is broken when used with blowfish passwords. Neither
users nor root can change passwords, and the module complains that
it's been compiled without blowfish support:

# passwd dhess
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
crypt_r: Don't know 0
Error: Password NOT changed.
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error
passwd: password unchanged

Syslog output:
Jun 22 07:26:49 [passwd] pam_unix2(passwd:chauthtok): Unknown option: `blowfish'
- Last output repeated 5 times -
Jun 22 07:27:37 [passwd] pam_unix2(passwd:chauthtok): No blowfish support
compiled in

Password auth (e.g., via sudo) works fine, strangely enough.

blowfish passwords were working fine prior to the recent package
update, and the PAM configuration on this machine hasn't changed.

Bug#487490: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686: USB_PERSIST is enabled, but does not work

2008-06-22 Thread Astrid S. de Wijn

Package: linux-image-2.6.25-2-686
Version: 2.6.25-5
Severity: normal

In 2.6.25 debian kernels, USB_PERSIST has been enabled, to make it possible to
suspend with mounted usb storage
filesystems which lose power during suspend. Even though the interface in /sys
exists, and I write 1 to every
device's persist file, I still lose the usb storage devices after resume as if
I had suspended without USB_PERSIST.
The result is journal commit I/O errors and risk of filesystem corruption. The
storage devices in question are a
usb SD card reader and a usb stick attached to a usb hub, which contains my /
filesystem.

I've done a little bit of digging and found someone who reported a suspiciously
similar problem. In the thread
a patch is mentioned:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/2031/match=usb+persist+issue
The patch was supposed to be submitted for 2.6.25, but the 2.6.25
debian-patched kernel sources don't seem to
have it. I have not been able to test yet wether this patch fixes my problem.

Kind regards,

Astrid

Well i tried that.. re-installing it but still retain the Runtime

It turns out the opensync python module loads every file in the plugin
 directory. Therefore, the actual .py plugin was loading absolutely fine;
it was the .pyc file spewing out the RuntimeError. It depends on the
python version opensync-module-python was compiled with which is probably
another bug with the python module packaging (the module should be
compiled for every version in pyversions -s) but I'll ignore that
 here.

Therefore this is a problem in opensync-module-python. I have set the
severity to normal and not wishlist because .pyc files will have the
same name as their .pyc counterpart, therefore causing name collision
 etc.

This has been fixed upstream in the 0.30 branch[0]. I have taken the fix
from there and made a patch for the 0.22 version that I think should be
 used until 0.30 hits Debian.

 Thanks,

 0. http://opensync.org/changeset/1753#file2 (what a horribly long diff)

Yes I noticed this when after un-installing that particular module I
realised that the command had been adding members all the time and so
the command did not exit with and error. I agree it is a somewhat
misleading error message, but I am not sure how else you could handle
it. Better than the application exiting with an error because it can't
run a broken plug-in, no?

Cheers for your help :) The irony is I don't even have a WinCE device,
but that I loaded all modules by default. So for me running without it
is no biggie. But thought I'd mention it for others just in case.

However, your package doesn't depend on anything, which kind of defeats

Bug#487475: xsane: Control/menu selection problem with epson backends via net driver [patch]

Brad Sawatzky [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi,

From what I found, I think it really is a bug in xsane. (xsane assumes a
memory structure is static but this is not guaranteed when the network
 backend is used.)

Thanks for spending time on this one!

However I am a bit doubtful as to the origin of the bug. I'd expect
the problem would manifest itself with other backends too.

Anyway I'll look into that and check the handling of the option array
inside the net backend.

I'm running Debian lenny amd64 on a Gateway ML6720 laptop with 1024 MB
RAM. The Intel video in this laptop works well in 2D mode with either
acceleration engine, but when I use 3D, things get trickier.

If I start scorched3d with default settings, the X server will
eventually crash and leave the screen in a corrupted state. Depending on
what state the crash leaves the hardware in, it may also leave me with a
black screen. The console is black and unusable, but SSH still works.
Turning scorched3d down to either Safe or Fastest modes seems to avoid
the crash.

Does it occur with intel 2.3.2 and libgl1-mesa-dri 7.0.3-4 from unstable?

Brice

I installed the new packages and tested again. Here's what I found:

Normal mode: scorched3d crashes, X is not affected.

Fastest and Safe modes work as before.

HOWEVER:

No matter what mode I have loaded, if I tick Disable GL extensions,
the game runs perfectly (if a bit slow; this is an X3100 after all).
This seems to be an important clue. If I untick it with the Safe or
Fastest settings loaded, scorched3d itself will crash before it can
change to 3D mode, as with the unadorned Normal mode.

You reported a bug against the Linux kernel (version 2.6.8) that was
shipped with Debian 3.1 (sarge). Since Debian 3.1 is no longer
supported and the kernel has changed so much that it would be very
difficult to verify every outstanding bug from 2.6.8, I'm hereby

If you still see this issue with the kernel from the upcoming release

Bug#487494: icedove: body text of messages sometimes doesn't get displayed after viewing html format message body

2008-06-22 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: icedove

Sometimes after displaying an html formatted message, subsequent message
viewing fails until icedove is restarted.

This problem has been ongoing over several versions of icedove.

Is there any straightforward way to trace what calls are failing in the

Bug#487496: findutils: wrong use of quotes in the error message

2008-06-22 Thread Alexander E. Patrakov
Package: findutils
Version: 4.4.0-2
Severity: minor

To reproduce, run this (stupid) command (the contents of the current directory
don't matter):

find . -name phc/\*.tex

The output is:

find: warning: Unix filenames usually don't contain slashes (though
pathnames do). That means that '-name `phc/*.tex'' will probably
evaluate to false all the time on this system. You might find the
'-wholename' test more useful, or perhaps '-samefile'. Alternatively,
if you are using GNU grep, you could use 'find ... -print0 | grep -FzZ
`phc/*.tex''.

However, the backtick has special meaning in bash, and thus should be
replaced with a single quote in the second and the last lines of the
error message. I.e., the error message should suggest to run

find ... -print0 | grep -FzZ 'phc/*.tex'

I solved the problem by removing all the packages (about 15) that were

Bug#487475: xsane: Control/menu selection problem with epson backends via net driver [patch]

2008-06-22 Thread Julien BLACHE
reassign 487475 libsane
retitle 487475 libsane: net backend option descriptors handling incorrect,
breaking SANE standard
tags 487475 - patch
merge 487475 307088
thanks

Brad Sawatzky [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

The problem occurs in xsane when accessing an epson/epkowa driver through
the network backend. Trying to change options like binary/gray/color,
resolutions, etc., in xsane results in a dialog box with 'Failed to set
value of option mode: invalid argument'. Playing with various controls
for a while (and dismissing the errors) eventually results in the problem
fixing itself, after which xsane behaves normally. There are no problems
when accessing the same driver directly (ie. xsane + epson backend on the
 same host).

After checking the net backend code and the SANE standard, the bug is
definitely not in XSane. XSane is correct in its assumption that
option descriptors remain at the same memory location between the
sane_open and sane_close calls.

That being said, it's still a bit unclear how many bugs we are
encountering here.

The net backend only memcpy()s the option descriptors, so it's very
possible that the various strings in the option descriptors end up at
different memory addresses after a reload of the option descriptors.

Why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, and why this happens
pretty much only with the epson backends is not entirely clear, though
part of that can be attributed to sheer luck.

Now, I'm not entirely sure the epson backends are clear of bugs in
their handling of the option descriptors.

Unfortunately, while the opt structure is built once and is then stable on
the remote (epson, epkowa, whatever) backend, that memory space is NOT
stable with the net backend. The pointer returned by the 'opt =
xsane_get_option_descriptor()' call in xsane.c seems to point to a
general purpose memory buffer used by the sanei_* network routines used
 by the net backend.

The above is only partly true. The net backend allocates memory for
local option descriptors on its own, but then only memcpy()s the
options descriptors, instead of performing an in-depth copy and
duplicating the strings too.

Thus the option descriptor itself is stable but its content is not,
and the string pointers actually do point to memory allocated by
sanei_wire, as you noted.

I'm cooking up a test patch for the net backend for you to test, and
cross-checking with SANE standard lawyers :)

JB.

The directory /sys/class/thermal does not exist.

The directory /sys/class/power_supply is empty.

The directory /proc/acpi/ is populated with the files I'd expect to be there,

Bug#487475: xsane: Control/menu selection problem with epson backends via net driver [patch]

2008-06-22 Thread Brad Sawatzky
On Sun, 22 Jun 2008, Julien BLACHE wrote:

However I am a bit doubtful as to the origin of the bug. I'd expect

Yeah, I had though so too...

AFAICT the opt pointer that xsane used was directed into a generic buffer
that sanei_* used for its net traffic. In some circumstances the buffer
would get 'refilled' with the same opt structure prior to menu_list[].label
getting dereferenced so the right data would be at that location and
everything would just work. However, if you use gdb to break on writes to
the memory location stored during the initial menu_items[i].label =
str_list[i]; line (in the unpatched xsane-front-gtk.c:xsane_option_menu_new()
function) you should find that it gets overwritten regularly as data are
transferred through the net backend.

I'll admit to getting a little lost in the sanei_* calls that do the dirty
work though...

Bug#487502: fusion-icon: Knows startup won't work, but issues no warning

2008-06-22 Thread James Youngman
Package: fusion-icon
Version: 0.1.0-1
Severity: normal

If I start fusion-icon (using the menu option) its stderr output is
not visible, just as for all other X apps launched from the menu.

Selecting the compiz window manager results in no window borders
because compiz doesn't work on my machine (in this configuration).
However, I get no error message; my window borders just go away.

However, the software knows there is a problem - this is printed to stderr:

~$ fusion-icon --no-start

That actually indicates you still have some sanity left :-)

Anyway, yes, the string list in the option descriptors are not stable
and can change over time, which is what we're seeing.

Now fixing that is a bit tricky because there's a loophole in the
standard and I really hope nobody EVER exploited it in a backend.

I wanted to trace communication between msmtp and the SMTP daemon in
order to isolate a fault (bug #487269). AFAICT, the only debugging
information that msmtp can generate is the one-line-per-message
 entries in --logfile.

I wish there was a --verbose option that would show EXACTLY what msmtp
sent and received from the SMTP server. I imagine the output would
look like curl -v (example below). IIRC fetchmail -v -v does
something similar, but I'm too lazy to make an example since I don't
 have fetchmail configured right now.

You can use the --debug option for this purpose; it will show the
complete communication between msmtp and the SMTP server.

OK that really nails it down. fetch_options() in the net backend
totally does the wrong thing.

I'll fix that up tonight or tomorrow.

Bug#229357: Build-Options

2008-06-22 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Hi,

On Sat, 21 Jun 2008, Felipe Sateler wrote:
Attaching a version against current master (since this can't make it to lenny
 anyway).

PS: an (N)ACK would be nice.

We have received your patch. Your patch would be even better if it was
complete: please update the documentation of dpkg-buildpackage accordingly.
But I have some other remarks, see below.

Last time we discussed this idea within the team, Frank wanted to
handle it, but it's been a long time since we had this discussion. Frank,
do you still have time/plans for this?

 +my $source = Dpkg::Control-new()-get_source();
 +if (defined($source-{Build-Options}) ) {
+# The build options are comma-separated, with optional spaces
 +my @build_options = split( / *, */, $source-{Build-Options} );

Please use \s*,\s*.

 +if( grep(/\bbuild-arch\b/, @build_options)  $binaryonly eq -B) {

Please match the keyword in its entirety: /^build-arch$/

 + $buildtarget = build-arch;
 +}
 +}

As we will probably add more Build-Options over time, we probably want to
move this processing in a dedicated module... but we already have
Dpkg::BuildOptions which handles DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS.

I don't know if we want to put both in the same module or if we need to
come up with a different name (or a sub-module maybe).

The discussion in the bug log also suggest to use Standards-Version as a
source of implicit build-options. If policy 4.0 mandates the build-arch
target, then the simple fact that Standards-Version = 4.0 can be assumed
as having Build-Options: build-arch. I like this idea and would like to
see it implemented in this patch.

(Yes there are reasons why your seemingly simple patch dit not yet got
merged, and I'm sorry for my lack of explanation up to now)

Cheers,

When you said that you purged all TeX packages and reinstalled, did that

that might lead to problems in the future.

Bug#487507: ImportError: No module named wikiconfig, in moinmoin 1.7.0

2008-06-22 Thread Franklin Piat
Package: moinmoin-common
Version: 1.7.0-1
Severity: important

Hello,

I've just migrated to the new moin 1.7.0, i get the error :

 ConfigurationError

Check that the file is in the same directory as the server script. If it
is not, you must add the path of the directory where the file is located
to the python path in the server script. See the comments at the top of
 the server script.

Check that the configuration file name is either wikiconfig.py or the
module name specified in the wikis list in farmconfig.py. Note that the
module name does not include the .py suffix.

 Error in your configuration file
 /var/lib/python-support/python2.5/MoinMoin/config/multiconfig.py
 around line 45.

I could solve it by adding this in /usr/share/moin/server/moin.cgi :

sys.path.insert(0, '/etc/moin')

Thanks for bringing moin 1.7 to Lenny.

Franklin

Its in the attachment. Had to kill it inbetween, looks like an endless loop.

Shouldn't be, it's just waiting for joystick activity until the time is
up. plib uses gettimeofday() to check the time, and it seems kind of
like this is not actually working on your system, for some reason.

I don't know, maybe try: echo 0 /proc/sys/kernel/vsyscall64

(should in theory make gettimeofday do a proper kernel call, which might
show up in the strace, but perhaps also force time to be measured
properly; this looks like it's probably a Linux kernel bug)

Bug#487269: from (-f) doesn't preserve comments in email address.

2008-06-22 Thread Martin Lambers
I tested the following commands. In all cases, the mail arrives, but
the header reads From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Nowhere does the
 comment Comment appear.

They generate the following logfile entries.

   Jun 21 03:00:15 host=mail.internode.on.net tls=off auth=off [EMAIL

Also find attached an mbox containing the three emails as they appear
at the receiving end. AFAICT, msmtp is stripping the comments, and
 IMO it shouldn't.

The -f option only sets the *envelope* from address, i.e. the address
that is sent in the MAIL FROM command. Therefore it should be a mail
address without additional information or comments.

The From: header is completely independet of that; you cannot set it with -f.

If a mail does not have a From: header, most MTAs will generate one
using the envelope from address and the name of the user, but that is a
different thing. Msmtp never generates a From: header; if you want one,
you have to generate one yourself or let the MTA (that msmtp sends the
mail to) do it.

One could argue that msmtp should generate a From: header if it is
missing, using the envelope from address and possibly the information of
the -F option (if present), but I'm not sure if that is the right thing
to do. Maybe that's better left to the real MTA.

Martin

Bug#487505: texmacs: does not support filenames in UTF-8 correctly

2008-06-22 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: texmacs
Version: 1:1.0.6.14-1
Severity: normal

Texmacs does not display filenames in UTF-8 correctly in the F2 Load... file
dialog regardless of the language setting. If such a filename is typed in the
File: field of the dialog it is displayed correctly (when the language is
set as needed), but the file is not loaded. If I click on the garbled name
instead, the file is loaded (however, one has to be a proffesional cryptoanalist
to be able to find the needed file in the list). The file is also loaded and
later saved okay if called as a parameter on the command line.

There is a similar problem with S-F3 Save as dialog: a russian filename can
be typed in and it is displayed correctly but when it gets saved to disk
it gets garbled.

The program should pay attention to locale settings and convert filenames
respectively.

A screenshot illustrating the problem is attached.

Bug#487475: xsane: Control/menu selection problem with epson backends via net driver [patch]

2008-06-22 Thread Julien BLACHE
Brad Sawatzky [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

everything would just work.

Hmm, on second thought, it doesn't nail it down that clearly after
all. It's actually OK to have this memory overwritten when the net
backend is refreshing the option descriptors.

What's not so much OK is that the net backend can refresh the option
descriptors behind XSane's back in sane_control_option(). I think it
shouldn't do that and just error out.

But if the option descriptors are invalid (ie the backend told the
frontend that it needed to reload the options after setting an option)
at the start of sane_control_option() that's a bug in XSane that
failed to acknowledge and act upon the backend's request to reload the
option descriptors.

Could you try to check if that matches what you're seeing?

Other than that, I think the net backend does the right thing. It
presents a local copy of the option descriptors to the frontend,
providing a stable memory address for the option descriptors.

Anything in the option descriptor can change after the backend tells
the frontend to reload the options, and I think that's what you're
seeing with gdb when the net backend refreshes the option
descriptors. But the memory allocated by sanei_wire for the option
descriptors and their content should not get overwritten unless
there's been a call to sane_get_option_descriptor().

The code flow looks roughly like this:

frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() for first option
net backend loads option descriptors (fetch_options())
frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() a few more times to load all options
frontend sets an option value by calling sane_control_option()
net backend forwards to underlying backend
underlying backend replies with info containing SANE_INFO_RELOAD_OPTIONS
net backends marks local copy as invalid, forwards to frontend
frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() for first option
net backend loads option descriptors (fetch_options())
frontend calls sane_get_option_descriptor() a few more times to reload all the
options

Pity I don't have the hardware to reproduce this issue here.

Now, two scenarios:
 - there's a bug somewhere and the memory allocated by sanei_wire gets
overwritten for some reason, which shouldn't happen

 - there's a bug in XSane not acting upon SANE_INFO_RELOAD_OPTIONS

Do you think you can try to determine which one is actually happening?

JB.

Bug#487510: python-pam: Example code is incorrect

2008-06-22 Thread Wolfgang Schnerring
Package: python-pam
Version: 0.4.2-10.4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The example code examples/pamtest.py is incorrect, it references the
non-existent constants PAM.PAM_PROMPT_ERROR_MSG and PAM.PAM_PROMPT_TEXT_INFO.
The correct names are PAM_ERROR_MSG and PAM_TEXT_INFO, respectively (without
PROMPT).

While this does not affect the example itself (the if-branch in question never
runs), it causes hard to detect errors in application code that relies on this
wrong example. This conversation function seems to somehow run in a plain-C
context, so the usual Python error, 'module' object has no attribute 'foo'
will not propagate to the user -- who is left scratching his head about
inscrutable PAM conversation errors.

Since this example file effectively is the only documentation available on the
python-pam module, it would be nice if it were correct. ;-)
The attached patch to fix the documentation is of course trivial, but
might potentially save a lot of bug-hunting.

I'm ok if you upload a NMU for this one, you're right lenny should not
ship with that bug under any circumstance. If you could commit your

that'd be extra nice, but not strictly necessary.

Bug#487514: fonty-rg: missing dependency on console-tools

2008-06-22 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Package: fonty-rg
Version: 0.5
Severity: normal

Hi,

I was trying kbd instead of console-tools, and looking for a way to use UTF8
fonts on the console. I tried utf8 command from fonty-rg, and it failed
because consolechars was missing. consolechars is provided by console-tools,
which I removed in part of the transition to kbd. If fonty-rg wants to use
consolechars, it should depend on console-tools.

Cheers,

Bug#487287: acpi: Negative value is show for temperature, fan constantly on

Which kernel do you run? Looks like a strange configuration here.

 Look at the temperature!

 $ cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature
 temperature: -73 C

Yes, it reports a negative temperature. But this is reported by the
kernel. acpi only reads this information and displays it. The problem
doesn't seem to be in acpi, but in the kernel itself.

Bug#487515: lintian.debian.org: doesn't show results for package in contrib

2008-06-22 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.28
Severity: minor

Hi,

My lintian.debian.org page doesn't list the package 'msttcorefonts' I
maintain which is in contrib. I guess this is because contrib and
non-free packages are not checked. I see no good reason to not do that;
other Debian QA tools list those packages aswell.

This is somewhat between a wishlist to add contrib packages and a bug
since my page in some way suggests that the report is comprehensive
which it's not, so I've chosen the 'minor' middle road.

cheers,
Thijs

That's an odd thing. I've undone my changes in default.pa to reproduce

following message twice:

asound.conf available in /etc, the shipped default.pa works fine (except

Bug#487421: Early boot-time kernel panic with linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64 (2.6.25-5).

 Hello all,

I experience early boot-time kernel panic with linux-image-2.6.25-2-amd64
 (2.6.25-5)
 on my amd64 box.

After having read tons of posts on forums, and particularly:

   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=482773
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=479101
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=479607
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=479607#96

I know that the bug I discovered is closely related to already reported bug
 #479607
 which apparently concerns lilo because:
The bug - kernel panic - happens just before any piece of userspace code
 being
loaded from initial RAM disk :

 ===
RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0.
 List of all partitions :
 010065536ram0 (driver?)
 ..
 ..
 ..
 010f65536ram15 (driver?)
No filesystem could mount root, tried:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on
 unknown-block(22,65)
 ===

But I have to add food for thought:

Here follow key files on my Debian_amd64 system:

ls -l /boot gave: ( cropped the list to meaningful parts )

Bug#486500: webgen0.4: diff for NMU version 0.4.7-1.1

2008-06-22 Thread Vincent Fourmond
tags 486500 + patch
thanks

  Hello,

Attached is the diff for my webgen0.4 0.4.7-1.1 NMU. I've also fixed
some various Build-Depends/Build-Conflicts issues in the process.

I plan to upload that to a 3/4 days delayed queue as soon as I
upload a new SSH key to the debian machines ;-)...

  Cheers,

Vincent Fourmond

Arthur,

I was just also receiving a code=12 error message and by adding myself to the
scanner group. I am now able to access the device correctly through
hp-toolbox.

Could you try this?

Mark

Yes, this fixed the problem.

code=12 was a bit obtuse for you are not a member of the group scanner

When running hp-toolbox and checking on ink supply levels I received the
following errors:

In 2.6.25 debian kernels, USB_PERSIST has been enabled, to make it possible
to suspend with mounted usb storage
filesystems which lose power during suspend. Even though the interface in
/sys exists, and I write 1 to every
device's persist file, I still lose the usb storage devices after resume as
if I had suspended without USB_PERSIST.
The result is journal commit I/O errors and risk of filesystem corruption.
The storage devices in question are a
usb SD card reader and a usb stick attached to a usb hub, which contains my /
 filesystem.

I've done a little bit of digging and found someone who reported a
suspiciously similar problem. In the thread
 a patch is mentioned:
 http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.usb.general/2031/match=usb+persist+issue
The patch was supposed to be submitted for 2.6.25, but the 2.6.25
debian-patched kernel sources don't seem to
have it. I have not been able to test yet wether this patch fixes my problem.

 Kind regards,

 Astrid

Bug#266273: Matthew 6:33

2008-06-22 Thread Ehi Eraghabo
Dear Friends in Christ,

I greet you out there in Jesus Lovely name.

I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by me
John 14:6. Jesus Christ is our salvation! I was searching for a study material
when I came across your email and convinced you are a Christian.

Please do not be angry at this letter and undermine me because I am reaching
you through the internet. God led me to your email and I know I’m blessed
having to know you. I am a member of Grace Bible Church in Benin City, Nigeria.
By His grace I’m a believer born again and blood bought( blodd of Jesus). I am
married with four children and six grand children. I have a great passion doing
the work of the master especially now I work on my own having not to be
disturbed like when I was working 10 hours in the clerk office work.. I am not
rich in this worly riches but rich spiritually in Christ. I came to know Christ
in 1986 and since then serve Him with commitment. I live in an area where there
is much hunger and crisis but the Lord keeps us from them all.
Our church is a small church with about twenty people. I am the assistant
pastor to pastor Kalu who is a very committed man of God. As you can see I can
speak and understand English well as we are British colonised country. I have
assess to internet through a relative who works in an office with internet so I
can check and receive my email here.

I am writing you because I need your help for bibles. Bibles are costly here
and many Christians do not have bibles. Most get theirs from people in other
countries when they can reach to other Christians there. My friends name Furi
told me to go internet where I can get some to help and I know God has directed
me to you. Please kindly send to us 7 bibles in giant print, king James
Version. I am using one while the six others are for six mothers and fathers in
our church who cannot buy the bibles because they are costly. The giant print
bibles are the ones we need because they come in large letters words good for
those who are aging or having reading problem. Please kindly help us and sow
this seed to our lives here. Where a seed is sown, harvest will surely come and
it will come to you.

”But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these
things shall be added unto you” Matthew 6:33.

The Lord blesses you richly as you continues to walk in his ways. Please write

Bug#487518: packages.debian.org: 'current' changelog is most recent overall, not most recent in sid

2008-06-22 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

When I want to view the 'current' changelog of phpmyadmin, as linked
from the PTS:
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/p/phpmyadmin/current/changelog
I get the stable changelog while I expected the unstable one. The
problem seems to be that the software that decides what is current
always takes the very newest package version. Because we released a
security advisory after the most recent upload to sid, that advisory is
considered to be current:

Index of /changelogs/pool/main/p/phpmyadmin

Bug#487517: indent: [rfe] better support for gettext macros

2008-06-22 Thread Hamish
Package: indent
Version: 2.2.9-7
Severity: wishlist
Tags: l10n

Hi,

At the GRASS GIS project (grass.osgeo.org) we are preparing to re-indent
our c. 1M SLOC codebase. Trials have shown that indent sometimes does
not do well with the _() gettext macros used for i18n of messages.
For example,

indent produces:
 G_fatal_error
(_
(Can't get projection info of current location

better would be to break lines like:
 G_fatal_error(
_(Can't get projection info

CLI rules used:
$ indent -bad -bap -bbb -br -bli0 -bls -cli0 -ncs -fc1 -hnl -i4 \
-nbbo -nbc -nbfda -nbfde -ncdb -ncdw -nce -nfca -npcs -nprs \
-npsl -nsc -nsob -saf -sai -saw -sbi0 -ss -ts8 -ut main.c

Example code which upon indent'ing shows the behaviour:

Bug#487519: ITP: xmltask -- XML editing task for Ant

2008-06-22 Thread Yann Rouillard
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Yann Rouillard [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: xmltaks
  Version : 1.15.1
* URL : http://www.oopsconsultancy.com/software/xmltask/
* License : Apache 1.1
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : XML editing task for Ant

Xmltask provides the facility for automatically editing XML files
as part of an Ant build. Unlike the standard filter task provided
with Ant, it is XML-sensitive, but doesn't require you to define XSLTs.
 .
 Uses include:
* modifying configuration files for applications during builds
* inserting/removing information for J2EE deployment descriptors
* dynamically building Ant build.xml files during builds
* building and maintaining websites built with XHTML
* driving Ant via a meta build.xml to abstract out build processes

I intend to package this software for Debian.

Bug#487151: subversion 1.5.0 released

2008-06-22 Thread Alexander Hvostov
On Saturday 21 June 2008, Peter Samuelson wrote:
Debian's default Java build environment, at least on most platforms,
takes 'javac' from ecj (the Eclipse Java compiler from Sun)

I hate to be pedantic, but ecj is from the Eclipse project, which not
affiliated with Sun.

and 'javah' from gcj (from gcc). The libsvn-java build process calls
javah to generate some C++ header files to be used in the JNI. But gcj
javah does not produce all the same filenames that Sun's javah produces.
For example, given the source file:

   org/tigris/subversion/javahl/ConflictDescriptor.java

 Sun javac produces:

   org/tigris/subversion/javahl/ConflictDescriptor.class

and from that, Sun javah produces:

   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor.h
   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor_Action.h
   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor_Kind.h
   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor_Reason.h

However, the ecj version of javac produces four separate files, because
 there are some nested classes:

   org/tigris/subversion/javahl/ConflictDescriptor.class
   org/tigris/subversion/javahl/ConflictDescriptor$Action.class
   org/tigris/subversion/javahl/ConflictDescriptor$Kind.class
   org/tigris/subversion/javahl/ConflictDescriptor$Reason.class

Huh? Sun javac somehow doesn't produce additional class files for nested
classes?? Are you sure about that? That sounds very incorrect.

and if you run javah from gcj on those:

   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor.h
   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor$Action.h
   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor$Kind.h
   org_tigris_subversion_javahl_ConflictDescriptor$Reason.h

Oh great. Perhaps you could write a script that renames generated header
files containing $ in their name, replacing $ with _?

Said script would probably have to search through the contents of those
generated files, looking for instances of those filenames and rewriting
them as well. I think some JNI headers #include each other, but I
honestly don't remember.

So, I have to work through the build scripts and source code to figure
out how to reconcile this mess. And once I've done that, I still don't
know if that is the only problem with the Java bindings.

I certainly hope so. Please do let us know if you run into any more
perplexing problems.

 Yes, this fixed the problem.
code=12 was a bit obtuse for you are not a member of the group scanner

Arthur,

Excellent, glad we have made some progress. But you are right the error
message isn't sensible and the scanner group doesn't make sense for running
hp-toolbox. The reason is that the USB device ownership is set lp.scanner,
this is a Debian/ Ubuntu modification.

Arthur. Wrt your ink supply Traceback, please file a new bug report, with
upstream preferably, as you will see if you try and file a report with hplip
2.8.6.

Till, the upstream file ./data/rules/55-hpmud.rules sets the USB device
OWNER=root, GROUP=lp, whilst the debian/ubuntu version
debian/55-hpmud.rules sets OWNER=lp, GROUP=scanner.

This has the effect that everyone trying to use hplip needs to be a member of
group scanner to use things such as hp-toolbox, rather than the expected lp
group. How would you feel if we reverted 55-hpmud.rules back to the upstream
default of OWNER=root, GROUP=lp.

Mark

PS. I suspect we should open another bug report 483205 is a locale issue.

Bug#487523: RM: smssend -- RoQA; RC-buggy (license issues, not released with Etch), upstream dead, not maintained

2008-06-22 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

see subject.
Also as the program relies on webpages and filling out forms there, I
guess it is completely broken anyway.

Thanks,

Bernd
