Bug#488717: [devscripts] [debcheckout] (optionally) fall back to apt-get source if Vcs-* is missing

I prefer rather not doing this for various reasons.

The main one is "social", as debcheckout was also meant as a way to
diffuse the culture of using Vcs-* fields. Transparently falling back to
apt-get will defeat this purpose. Similarly, it will make less evident,
no matter how you warn, the information/pointers about Vcs-*
documentation.

I suggest either just printing out the alternative (but are there cases
of people knowing about debcheckout but not apt-get source?), maybe
printing out something like "you can do apt-get source ...".
Alternatively we can provide a fallback switch that it is not the
default and when given enables transparent fallback to apt-get.

Cheers.

Bug#488712: [Fwd: twiki 1:4.1.2-3.2: Please update debconf PO translation for the package twiki]

2008-06-30 Thread Eddy Petrișor

Hehe,

Fortunately, I only had to run a msgmerge -U ro.po new-ro.po.

Please use this translation.

 Original Message
To: Eddy Petri??or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, Romanian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
From: Christian Perrier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

(2nd version of this call for translations. The former one was using an
incorrect templates file with too many strings. If you already began working
on it, that shouldn't be a problem, though)

Hi,

A l10n NMU will happen on twiki pretty soon.

A round of translation updates is being launched to give all translators
a chance to get their translations in for that package.

Please send the updated file as a wishlist bug against the package.

The deadline for receiving the updated translation is
Tuesday, July 08, 2008.

Thanks,

I change the format of http://qa.debian.org/data/ddpo/results/bugs.txt a
few days ago. For icu we have this now:
icu:0(0) 2(2) 0(0) 0(0) 1(1)

It means 2 (non-merged) bugs and one with patch. It looks like ddpo is
somehow confused by the supplementary figures. Myon was watching any error
resulting from the change but he didn't saw any at that time.

Cheers,

I created the external journal without specifying the blocksize, not
realizing that I needed to. Perhaps the blocksize parameter should be
mandatory when creating an external journal...

We still have to activate the file trigger if we're effectively modifying
the configuration file (i.e. in all cases except if the user decides to
keep the old file IMO).

So it could be argued that it's right to activate the trigger. After all,
even if the user choose to keep the old configuration file, he might have
merged some of the changes by hand (using the spawned shell).

Do I miss something here?

so in other words a char* from the previously modified macro is being assigned
to the size_t *p, which is then possibly not aligned and passed to memcpy.
i'll try changing these to a char * too and see if it makes any difference.

Bug#486400: [Splashy-devel] Bug#486400: Splashy works with hibernation, but ...

2008-06-30 Thread Eric Doviak

Just to clarify (in case my previous message was unclear) ...

In the "/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top" file, the lines:

for x in $(cat /proc/cmdline); do
   case $x in
   single)
   SINGLE=true
   ;;
   splash)
   SPLASH=true
   ;;
   nosplash)
   SPLASH=false
   ;;
   vga=*|video=*)
   FBMODESET=true
   ;;
   esac
done

should be immediately followed by a test to see if a resume image is
available. If one is available, then "SPLASH=false"

Hope this helps,

Bug#488148: findimagedupes: missing perlapi dependency

Well, the versioned dependency was required to fix #479731 so a
simple ${perl:Depends} is not sufficient in this case. But thanks
for the dh_perl - cdbs issue.

Despite the similarity with ${shlibs:Depends}, ${perl:Depends} doesn't
handle the Perl libraries, only the dependency on the Perl version
(including perlapi-$Config{version}). You still have to list the
libraries manually. See #81547.

I admit I fail to understand what exactly I should specify in the Depends.
My Perl knowledge is quite weak and I would immediately offer the package
to somebody who understands things better than me - I just saved it from
removal by taking it over. I cant find any package perlapi-* and don't
know really what to do here. So a real patch would be very helpful.

Kind regards

Andreas.

I know this happened long time ago, but do you happen to remember if
you diverted those conffiles? Otherwise it could be that some other
package diverted those, but that'd be a bit more difficult to research
at this point in time.

Thanks for the patch! There's a problem with it though, namenodetouse
has as a side effect to activate a file trigger. I'll probably be moving
the side effect outside that function before applying this patch.

Bug#486400: [Splashy-devel] Bug#486400: Splashy works with hibernation, but ...

2008-06-30 Thread Eric Doviak
I think I know how to fix this bug. ... Of course, knowing how to fix
the bug and being able to fix the bug are two totally different things.

If I understand correctly ... When the "vga=791 splash" arguments are
passed to the kernel, some of the first scripts that the initial RAM
disk runs is a script that starts the framebuffer
("init-top/framebuffer") and a script that checks to see if Splashy
should start ("init-top/splashy").

Later, the initial RAM disk checks to see if there's a hibernation image
from which to resume "local-premount/{resume,uswsusp}". If it detects a
resume image, then it loads the resume image. The trouble then occurs
because the resume image also contains Splashy.

So if you could move (some of) the checks for the resume image into the
the "init-top/splashy" script and cause the "init-top/splashy" script to
exit if it detects a resume image, then:

   * on a boot following a complete shutdown, the "init-top/splashy"
 script would start Splashy
   * on a boot following hibernation, the "init-top/splashy" script
would exit and allow the resume features to start Splashy

That would provide the best of both worlds! A userspace bootsplash that
starts early in the boot sequence and a bootsplash that is capable of
working with hibernation!

I hope this helps! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do!

Thanks,
- Eric

I can reproduce these crashes using kfreebsd in QEMU. Though even if I
use custom Tcl 8.5 build with symbols enabled I can't see anything
meaningful in a dumped core (using GDB). So, I can't immediately tell
what's wrong. I'm going to investigate further.

Is it possible to see get this .libs/libdevhelp_1_la-Yelper.o file ?

Well, yes, animated gifs, are uglier than APNGs, but we can't support

I won't have time to take a look before tonight, or even later, but here
is a quick take: you don't need rpath. Link against the standalone glue
(libxul-embedding or libxul-embedding-unstable) and be done with it.

Maybe they did like Fedora and disabled offscreen pixmaps by default.
IIRC, this is going to be the case on debian.

In the end I got sick of this; it occurred to me that you probably
aren't re-generating the manpage from the pod data every time you
build a .deb, so I might as well just hand-write the replacement
manpage. See attached for the finished version.

.SH DESCRIPTION

.B rt
allows you to interact with an RT server over HTTP, and offers an
interface to RT's functionality that is better-suited to automation
and integration with other tools.

Each invocation of this program must specify an action (e.g. edit,
create), options to modify behaviour, and other arguments required
by the specified action. (For example, most actions expect a list of
numeric object IDs to act upon.)

The details of the syntax and arguments for each action are given in
\f[I]ACTIONS\f[R].
Some actions may be referred to by more than one
name (`create' is the same as `new', for example).

You may also call `rt shell', which will give you an `rt>' prompt at
which you can issue commands.

Objects are identified by a type and an ID (which can be a name or a
number, depending on the type). For some actions, the object type is
implied (you can only comment on tickets); for others, the user must
specify it explicitly.

Every object in RT has a type (e.g. `ticket', `queue') and a numeric
ID. Some types of objects can also be identified by name (like users
and queues). Furthermore, objects may have named attributes (such as
`ticket/1/history').

An object specification is like a path in a virtual filesystem, with
object types as top-level directories, object IDs as subdirectories,
and named attributes as further subdirectories.

A comma-separated list of names, numeric IDs, or numeric ranges can
be used to specify more than one object of the same type. Note that
the list must be a single argument (i.e., no spaces). For example,
`user/root,1-3,5,7-10,ams' is a list of ten users; the same list
can also be written as `user/ams,root,1,2,3,5,7,8-10'.

.SH FORMS

This program uses RFC822 header-style forms to represent object data
in a form that's suitable for processing both by humans and scripts.

A form is a set of (field, value) specifications, with some initial
commented text and interspersed blank lines allowed for convenience.
Field names may appear more than once in a form; a comma-separated
list of multiple field values may also be specified directly.

Field values can be wrapped as in RFC822, with leading whitespace.
The longest sequence of leading whitespace common to all the lines
is removed (preserving further indentation). There is no limit on
the length of a value.

Multiple forms are separated by a line containing only `--\\n'.

.\" A more detailed specification will be provided soon. For now,
.\" the server-side syntax checking will suffice.

.SH QUERIES

RT3 uses an SQL-like syntax to specify object selection constraints.
See the documentation for details.

.\" I'm going to have to write it, aren't I?

.SH TYPES

You can currently operate on the following types of objects:

.SS Tickets

Tickets are identified by a numeric ID.

In addition to the generic operations list, show, edit and create, the
following ticket-specific actions exist: link, merge, comment and
correspond.

The following attributes can be used with `rt show' or `rt edit'
to retrieve or edit other information associated with tickets:

.TP 24
links
A ticket's relationships with others.
.TP
history
All of a ticket's transactions.
.TP
history/type/
Only a particular type of transaction.
.TP
history/id/
Only the transaction of the specified id.
.TP
attachments
A list of attachments.
.TP
attachments/
The metadata for an individual attachment.
.TP
attachments//content
The content of an individual attachment.

.SS Users and Groups

Users and groups are identified by name or numeric ID.

In addition to the generic operations list, show, edit and create, the
following type-specific actions exist: grant and revoke.

The following attributes can be used with `rt show' or `rt edit'
to retrieve or edit other information associated with users and
groups:

.TP 24
rights
Global rights granted to this user.
.TP
rights/
Queue rights for this user.

.SS Queues

Queues are identified by name or numeric ID.

Currently, they can be subjected to the following actions: show,
edit and create.

.SH "COMMANDS (ACTIONS)"

You can currently perform the following actions:

Bug#455501: dpkg-architecture doesn't recognize arm-none-linux-uclibcgnueabi

I think producing this kind of packages with overloaded architectures
is really bad, might give really confusing errors, and you'll have to
migrate at some point to use the new architecture name as they are
going to be incompatible anyway. It was a pain to move the arm with
eabi binaries to proper armel at Nokia...

Right (except for s/generally/always/. :)

> Therefore, it would be reasonable that a uniform naming scheme would
> exist in the architecture names.

There's already one, it is probably not well documented though. The
Debian architectures are now internally handled as triplets (which
are more or less the reversed GNU triplets), so for armel we have:

Debian arch Debian triplet GNU triplet

  armel gnueabi-linux-arm arm-linux-gnueabi

The most common arches right now are GNU/Linux based so those do not
include the abi nor the os, they are implicit, and the cpu might get
mapped to make it distinguishible, in the previous case we have to
merge the eabi and arm info into a single arch name.

Ideally those would be called linux-, which is less confusing
(people would not assume any kernel running on , but for
historical reasons I don't see this changing).

For the new "common" ones we use -, like in:

  kfreebsd-i386 gnu-kfreebsd-i386 i386-kfreebsd-gnu

And in this case the abi is implicit, if we wanted a different libc,
then we'd have to include it explicitly.

And for really uncommon ones we'd use something like --
for example:

  uclibc-linux-armeluclibceabi-linux-armarm-linux-uclibceabi

I'm attaching a patch which should make uclibc based architectures
work.

regards,
guillem

Bug#458573: Announce of an upcoming upload for the twiki package (2nd version)

2008-06-30 Thread Christian Perrier
(2nd version: the original call for translations was using an
incorrect templates files with too many strings, some coming from the
old version of templates)

Dear maintainer of twiki and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the twiki Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

The package maintainer and I agreed for a translation update round. At
the end of this period, I will send him|her a full patch so that
an l10n upload can happen.
The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fr gl nb nl pt pt_BR ro ru sv ta vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: cs de es eu nl pt pt_BR
ro ru sv ta

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the twiki package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, July 10,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

Schedule:

Saturday, June 21, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Tuesday, July 01, 2008 : send this notice
Thursday, July 10, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Friday, July 11, 2008 : Send a summary to the maintainer. Maintainer
uploads
 when possible.

Thanks for your efforts and time.

ACK, thanks.

Could the fix be considered for backporting to etch?

Yes, and after that warning I've assumed that `-name \*/\*' will
always be false. Surprisingly, it won't.

 > If you want to find *directories named "tmp" in /tmp simply use "find

Actually, I wanted to find files and directories, whose names
contain contain characters not in the specified set, e. g.:

$ find directory/ -name '*[^a-z]*'

And I was quite surprised that this command line /shows/
`directory' itself (which, of course, /doesn't/ contain any
characters out of the `a-z' set.)

This is actually not a problem of whether it is bash or dash, return takes
an unsigned integer as an argument.

> already_running() {

should be as simple as:

Because the function returns the exit status of the last command executed
(start-stop-daemon in this case).

This is not correct, echo -e prints a new line at the end (unless -n or \c
is used).

It should read:

Bug#488756: openoffice/OpenOffice is wrong

2008-06-30 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: docvert-openoffice
Version: 3.4-3
Severity: important

There's no "openoffice" and neither is there a "OpenOffice".

Please name the program as it is named in the description
(OpenOffice.org - yes, really, the .org belongs to the application name,
guess why the packages are called so?) and fix the package name.

Regards,

Rene

Bug#488754: initscript should wait for pulseaudio to stop

2008-06-30 Thread Aron Griffis
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.10-2
Severity: normal

Sometimes pulseaudio takes a second to stop. This can cause
restart to fail:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart
Stopping PulseAudio Daemon.
Starting PulseAudio Daemon/usr/bin/pulseaudio already running.

This can be fixed by using the --retry option to
start-stop-daemon. With the following patch, the initscript will
wait 3 seconds for pulseaudio to stop, and report the final status
appropriately. Note this is *up to* 3 seconds; start-stop-daemon
will poll regularly and exit early if possible.

Bug#488753: ITP: libapache2-mod-passenger -- Rails and Rack module for Apache2

2008-06-30 Thread Filipe Lautert
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Filipe Lautert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: libapache2-mod-passenger
  Version : 2.0.1
  Upstream Author : Phusion <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.modrails.com
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : Rails and Rack module for Apache2

Phusion Passenger — a.k.a. mod_rails — makes deployment of
applications built on Ruby on Rails web framework a breeze.
Passenger is an Apache2 module and it's ability to automatically
manage Rails server processes lowers system administration,
while retaining stability/robustness and performance.

There is a guy (Neil Wilson) who already started to package
passenger to Ubuntu. I'll contact him and see what we
can do to have this package in Debian/Ubuntu.

So what happened is that you created the external journal with some
blocksize other than 4k. I'm guessing 1k, perhaps? There is a
requirement that the blocksize of the external journal device matches
the blocksize of the filesystem using the external journal device. So
what mke2fs tries to do helpfully is to create new filesystem with the
blocksize used by the external journal device, if it exists. So when
you specified -J device=/dev/mapper/vg11-loebas--journal, it did an
implicit -b 1024. Unfortunately, with a 6.1T filesystem, using a 1k
blocksize, the number of blocks needed to cover 6.1T don't fit in
2**32 blocks.

You're right, we should have better error message for this case.

I'm curious though --- why did you create the external journal with a
1k blocksize? Was this deliberate? Or accidental?

- Ted

I've written valid sentences before containing "that that" and without
obvious rephrasings, although alas I don't have an example at hand. And
of course there's the famous saying "there's no there there," but that
probably isn't going to occur in a package description. :)

That's possibly also a good idea, but I think \s is still better than \W.
Was there a use-case that you had for using \W over \s?

I'm worried about blah-foo foo-baz sorts of cases, although I don't have a
specific example in mind.

on a package description? I believe there are none (but I'm always open to

Bug#488751: qa.debian.org: developer.php showing incorrect information for merged bug count

2008-06-30 Thread Jay Berkenbilt
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: normal

Over the last few days, I've noticed that when I go to my developer
page at http://qa.debian.org/[EMAIL PROTECTED], the
"icu" package shows "2(3)" as the number of bugs, indicating that two of
three outstanding bugs are merged. In fact, there are no open merged
bugs, and there has been no bug activity since the display changed
from "2" to "2(3)" (or, as of earlier today, "2\n(3)"). I do have two
resolved merged bugs, but they've been there for a long time. Their
archive days count isn't dropping for some reason, but they've been
closed for a long time.

Thanks!

Unless someone objects, I'm inclined to make this info-level instead of a
warning, since there are valid English constructs where this is a false
positive and it's a fairly minor bug.

I think also requiring \s instead of \W on either end of the repeated
words would be safer; that way we wouldn't warn on "foo foo", and the
general rule of thumb I've been applying with description checks is that
if they're quoting it, it's probably intentional.

Bug#482100: linux-image-2.6.25-3-686-bigmem : Complete system freeze

2008-06-30 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

maximilian attems wrote :

okay thanks for retesting.

please checkout 2.6.26-rc8 from debian linux images,
see apt trunk lines http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel

if those are also freezing please send in the working config
for 2.6.26-rc8.

kind regards

It's a bit too early to tell, but seems like 2.6.26-rc8-amd64 from
Debian is working as fine as is the vanilla kernel. It's currently
running on two clones of the "problematic" system and no freeze so far.
One is stock kernel just installed from trunk repository, running in
console mode without x started. The other one has been rebuilt (but with
strictly the stock 2.6.26-rc8-amd64 configuration file) from trunk
linux-source-2.6.26-rc8 with gcc 4.3 (Lenny default), and is running
with x and nvidia's latest beta driver, doing equally good.
Looks like the problem is strictly a 2.6.25 issue. I would really like
to understand what's going wrong in the equation Debian Lenny - my
hardware - 2.6.25 kernel ... I tried once again the 2.6.25 , using the
working 2.6.26 config to build it, but only to freeze the system after a
mere 30 minutes. The cpu seems to be idling even though there is
activity on the box, and never coming up again. Nothing works, keyboard
(ps2) and "magic" keys are useless, just a message telling "cpu stuck
for xx seconds" for a while, then even this freezes and I have to
hard-reboot.
Exact same system and hardware, I really can't settle for a
configuration problem or some weird cpufreq governor ill behavior since
it's working perfectly with 2.6.24 and 2.6.26... and even the vanilla
2.6.25 is crashing the same way.

Anyway, I can live with not knowing as long as my system works again and
I am able to upgrade the kernel when needed.

If you need anything else, or if there's a way I can rebuild a 2.6.25
with debug on to help gathering information I can do it, but I doubt it
would be of any interest since we've already moved on to 2.6.26 . Of
course if 2.6.25 is to be the next Stable default kernel you may come
across weird problems like mine again...

Best regards,

Tom

Bug#488750: evince: Crashes when PDF file is changed while being viewed

2008-06-30 Thread Dylan Thurston
Package: evince
Version: 2.22.2-1
Severity: normal

If, while viewing a PDF file, the PDF file is changed on disk, evince
gives lots of messages about missing font tags and fails to display
anything. Asking for the file to be re-opened often results in a
crash. More helpful behaviour when editing documents would be to
behave like (eg) xdvi: notice that the file has changed and attempt to
re-open it; but in any case it shouldn't crash.

Hi Michael,

thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Anibal, what is the best way forward with this?
Should we just make the packages conflict until such time
as there is a new release of heartbeat that uses pacemaker?

Bug#488747: libpoker-eval: #include "game_joker.h" shows few `redefined' warnings.

2008-06-30 Thread Morita Sho
Package: libpoker-eval
Version: 134.0-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

I'm trying to use JokerDeck as default deck instead of StdDeck.
To achieve this, I wrote following code:

#include "poker_defs.h"
#include "game_joker.h"
int main(void) {
  /* actual code here */
  return 0;
}

While compiling above code, I have few `redefined' warnings:

$ gcc -Wall `pkg-config --libs --cflags poker-eval` test.c
In file included from /usr/include/poker-eval/game_joker.h:26,
 from test.c:2:

IMHO, it seems that #undefs to these macros are missing in deck_undef.h.
Thus, adding
#undef CardMask_NOT
#undef CardMask_XOR
#undef CardMask_AND
#undef CardMask_UNSET
to deck_undef.h solves the problem.

Regards,

Hi,

In Ubuntu, we've fixed two bugs in the guidedog package that we thought
you might be interested in adopting. The patch is attached for your
consideration.

  * Symlink .desktop file to correct location so GNOME can read it [0]
  * Patch guidedog.cpp with quilt to work with non *sh shells [1]

Thanks,

Bug#488745: cariomm.h at wrong location

2008-06-30 Thread UnioN NoinU

Package: libcairomm
Version: 1.0-0

The header "cairomm.h" is located at "/usr/include/cairomm-1.0/cairomm/"
instead of "/usr/include/cairomm-1.0/".
Here's a snippet of the file "cairomm.h" where it tries to include another
header:
#include
so it searches in the sub-directory, which doesn't exist in
"/usr/include/cairomm-1.0/cairomm/"

a simple "mv /usr/include/cairomm-1.0/cairomm/cairomm.h
/usr/include/cairomm-1.0/cairomm.h" solved the problem.

I've now got a much clearer idea of how to add experimental tag support.

I need to do some more checking and testing but am planning to use this
test as a test-case, as Russ (indirectly) suggested.

Bug#488743: netbeans-platform: should not be available on platforms that don't have a sun jre

2008-06-30 Thread Jan Hülsbergen
Package: netbeans-platform
Severity: important

The package netbeans-platform depends on
sun-java5-jdk | sun-java5-jre | sun-java6-jdk | sun-java6-jre
all of which are not available on ppc (and probably other architectures).

Once I have the time to 'hack' my java-package to work with recent versions of
the IBM JDK (see #487631) and compile libstdc++5 for ppc, I will check if
netbeans works with this so maybe there is an alternative.

I think the real issue we've identified is that Debian (at least, and
probably Ubuntu et al) has a standard "one stop" place to configure
the default paper size per host (/etc/papersize) or per user/process
($PAPERSIZE).

Application-specific mechanisms for setting the paper size are
interesting, but I think tangential.

Bug#432561: valgrind backtrace

2008-06-30 Thread Chung-chieh Shan
Hello,

Since around when I switched from Firefox 2 to Firefox 3 (or perhaps
it is a coincidence), Polipo often crashes, especially when I go to
nytimes.com. Setting dnsUseGethostbyname to false or true didn't help,
but it wasn't hard for me to get a backtrace under valgrind; see below.
The page is http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/01/business/01epstein.html .
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ken

Bug#488706: 5.0beta2 netinst laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000 RTL-8169 ethernet PCMCIA not recognized

2008-06-30 Thread Jean-Bernard Addor
Thanks for your answer!

From memory, it detected the CD and after made a message (I remember
very well the message, I was really surprised) that it was not able to
detect the ethernet card. I continued and it blocked definitively when
it needed something it was not able to find on the CD. I tryed again
but I have not been able to even boot the kernel, I have the impression
the CD driver is finished (ie the computer).

Have a nice day,

Jean-Bernard

Yeah, I think that's the way that they should be, since experimental
status is orthogonal to severity or certainty.

Bug#450510: apt: Hash Sum mismatch

2008-06-30 Thread Donald Davis
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.11
Followup-For: Bug #450510

When I try to apt-get update I get a Hash Sum mismatch error.
"W: Failed to fetch

This does not happen with aptitude. If I remove deb-src (no sources) it
works.

A little more digging around (also known as reading the manual :-)
suggests that experimental tags are simply "normal" tags with an extra
flag. That also looks a lot easier to implement.

This appears to not be the case. I don't think that any consideration was
given, when this code was written, to the possibility that a failure to
slapcat a database would be anything but a fatal error that should cause the
upgrade to abort.

This should be corrected in the Debian package. back-sql clearly needs to
be excluded, since we have no way to slapcat it; back-ldap should as well, I
think, because the backend storage format is obviously stable. ;) What
other backends should be excluded?

(I think this should be a list of exclusions rather than inclusions, because
I would rather assume by default that we *should* back up a directory unless
we have a concrete reason to believe this isn't needed.)

Which was what I was trying to do :-) Would it be possible for this to
be added to the next upload anyways? Because it's not required for
general use, it's obviously not important enough for an upload of it's
own, but if it could be added in next time you're doing other things
that would be nice!

That's perfectly reasonable. I think it's ok to not cache these even if
they are good, because it prevents running debootstrap later with an out

Yeah, it sounds like an ideal candidate for an experimental tag.

One thing I wasn't entirely clear on from a quick look at Tags.pm - are
experimental tags intended to be declared as "Type: experimental" or as
a "normal" tag with an "Experimental: yes" field? The comments
describing %tags appear to suggest there might be a difference between a
tag being experimental and it having a type of "experimental".

Bug#488736: gkrelltop: ignores -s option to listen to remote gkrellmd server

2008-06-30 Thread Chris Carr
Package: gkrelltop
Version: 2.2.11-2
Severity: important

On my system I run three instances of gkrellm: one to monitor the local
machine and two monitoring different remote machines. The gkrelltop
plugin works fine monitoring the local machine, but it seems to ignore
the fact that the other instances are listening to remote machines (both
of which have gkrelltopd installed and loaded). If I enable the
gkrelltop plugin on either of the remote monitors, it shows me the top
processes on the local machine!

Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Well, that can only prove that it's no longer vulnerable, right, not that it
still works after the fact? ;)

I'm still inclined to wait until I see upstream bless this patch before
pushing out a fix to unstable.

Yes, there is. udev basically renames _any_ network interface...

No. *Any* renaming is done by udev and only by udev.

Udev got that idea from the installation where the driver assigned the
eth1 name for the interface, so it tries to preserve that. And in fact it
almost succeeds, were it not for the fact that it gets confused by the
fact that the hostap driver creates two interfaces instead of just one.

Sorry, I'm a moron.

The correct line should be:
SUBSYSTEM=="net", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="00:d0:59:bd:d5:c5",
ATTR{type}=="1", NAME="eth1"

Change the second line to that and remove the third line. (Or remove the
second line and change wlan0 to eth1 in the third; same difference :-)

I have to check why the newly generated line gives "wlan0" instead of
"ethX" as I'd expected, but that's not that relevant for you.

Cheers,
FJP

Hmm, I can understand that some people don't want to see the experimental
changelog, and to fix that at some point might be nice, I really don't
see why you wouldn't want to have the newest version from
stable/testing/unstable?

Bug#488735: dc: notice read and write errors on input and output

Package: dc

Hi,

The attached patch by Ian Jackson is used in Ubuntu to make
dc notice errors on its input and output. Please consider
applying it.

Thanks,

James

+bc (1.06-19ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
+
+ * Make dc notice read and write errors on its input and output.
+I grepped for mentions of the strings `putc', `print', `getc', `FILE',
+`stdin', `stdout' and `stderr' and added calls to new error-checking
+functions unless it was clear from the immediately-surrounding code
+that the program was exiting nonzero, or would exit nonzero if the
+call failed. I ignored hits in lib/getopt*, which seems to
+pervasively ignore write errors when printing usage messages, in the
+hope that these were correct. I _think_ I got them all. -iwj.

Bug#488733: [libcairo2] about the directfb backend

2008-06-30 Thread Riccardo Magliocchetti
Package: libcairo2
Version: 1.6.4-6
Severity: wishlist

I'm trying to figure out if is possible to use the cairo directfb in
debian sid.

I've installed libcairo-directfb2 because i thought this was an
additional backend, tried to compile swfdec-directfb but i get:

/usr/lib/libcairo-directfb/include/cairo/cairo-directfb.h:64:3: error:
#error Cairo was not compiled with support for the directfb backend

After reading with more attention the long description of the package,
it seems that is a version of libcairo with _only_ the directfb and
should be used instead of libcairo2. Is it right?

Is possible to add the directfb backend to libcairo2 package?

thanks,
Riccardo Magliocchetti

I can't at present think of a good reason for the current behaviour;
it was probably done to make it look tidy, but that's completely wrong
in this case! I'll delete the line as you have done.

Bug#488731: acct: 'sa' manual needs correction for 'real time' and 'cpu time' fields

2008-06-30 Thread Dominique Brazziel
Package: acct
Version: 6.4~pre1-6
Severity: normal

 From 'man sa':

The output fields are labeled as follows:

cpu sum of system and user time in cpu seconds

re "real time" in seconds

<* snip *>

-j, --print-seconds
Instead of printing total minutes for each category, print
seconds per call.

The default units are, in fact, minutes. I think the following patch
clears things up:
