Bug#507945: Acknowledgement (tuxonice: on resume kills /dev/random working.)

2008-12-10 Thread Bob Fast
Yes, i am not sure what triggered it in any case and i cannot reproduce it.
I was using samba4 alpha 5 (i think that version at least) at the time when
it occurred. The laptop is rather old and half dead in any case. Please
close this bug. I did not mean to report it without testing it again / being
able to reproduce it .

Bug#506586: Bug #506586 kernel crash on accessing remote cifs

2008-12-10 Thread Johannes Wiedersich
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

[Please cc me, I am not subscribed to debian-kernel]

I have tried to further investigate the problem leading to a system
freeze on connection to a remote cifs share.

On one occasion I was able to take a screen shot. Unfortunately, my mail
with the attached screen shot (100 kb) did not make it to the bts or the
list. (Is there a prefered way of handling this?)

On another occasion I found the excerpts in syslog, that are attached.
I'm not sure if this is really relevant, though, since I could not
reproduce the syslog entries or the on screen output of the panic.

I am told that the remote system that kills my debian box on connection
is running a Netapp 6070 with Data OnTAP 7.2.4 (what ever that is).

As far as I could tell, the problem does not occur, if the remote system
is accessed with the fuse tools (kde konqueror). Unfortunately, these
lack some of the functionality I require (synchronisation with unison or
rsync).

I don't know how to proceed from here. I could try to capture and post a
trace of the network traffic leading to the kernel crash, if that is
considered useful.

I'm not sure if that has any security relevance (system freeze on
connecting to remote computer).

Cheers,

Johannes

If yes, fixing them is probably not worth it. If not, I don't think

Bug#508327: debian-installer: restart loop triggered if booting without "-- quiet"

2008-12-10 Thread Teodor
Package: debian-installer
Version: 20081029
Severity: important

I've tried to install Debian GNU/Linux using the daily built image for
netinst/amd64 from 20081208,#2. I can reproduce the following test
case every time on my HP nw8440 laptop. I think you can imagine how
hard it was to read the messages at the console since it was
continuously switching from the text console (F1 or F4) to the
graphical console (F5) every 1-2 seconds displaying the following
crash messages.

Thanks

Select "Graphical Install", press the TAB key and modify from:
 /install.amd/vmlinuz video=vesa;ywrap;mtrr vga=788
initrd=/install.amd/gtk/initrd.gz -- quiet
to
 /install.amd/vmlinuz video=vesa;ywrap;mtrr vga=788
initrd=/install.amd/gtk/initrd.gz

and press ENTER.. loading ..
(just by deleting "quiet" but preserving "--" there was no crash)

On the first window "Choose language" just press "Continue" for the
default selection "English". This will create an infinite loop when
the graphical installer crashes and is trying to start!!

On terminal console #1 the crash message is:

(!) [ 1887:0.000] --> Caught signal 6 (unknow origin) <--
Aborted
(process:7596): INFO: kbd-mode: setting console mode to Unicode (UTF-8)

On terminal console #4 the repeating messages are:

Bug#434925: suikyo-elisp should list emacs22 as a dependency

2008-12-10 Thread Sven Joachim
severity 434925 important
thanks

Although suikyo-elisp byte-compiles fine for emacs22, it still needs a
different emacsen flavor, since neither emacs22 nor emacsen is listed as
a dependency.

Bumping the severity of this bug accordingly.

Bug#508329: libnotify-dev: notification.h includes non top-level header

2008-12-10 Thread Eugen Dedu

Subject: libnotify-dev: notification.h includes non top-level header
Package: libnotify-dev
Version: 0.4.4-3
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Hi,

/usr/include/libnotify/notification.h, lines 27-28 are:
#include
#include

GTK+ is moving toward a model where it is only allowed to include the
'toplevel' headers: only , ,
and can be directly included.

So please remove the line
#include
which is by the way already included by gtk.h (but please check it).

This allows programs defining -DGTK_DISABLE_SINGLE_INCLUDES to compile
with libnotify.

Cheers,
Eugen

Attached. It looks like xscreensaver is not actually seeing :0.1
despite the fact that some brief action happens on it.

Should I be able to run it twice, once for -display :0.0 and once for
display :0.1 (I got the impression that was the wrong thing to do from
the the docs which say that all screens of a display are supposed to be
managed). If I am I can't because trying crashes X (X dies and I have
to log in again).

Daniel

Bug#508330: Argument structure is non-standard; does not allow tab completion of directories

2008-12-10 Thread James Sams
Package: mhddfs
Version: 0.1.12-1
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
The current option parsing is, as you know, as such:

mhddfs /dir1,/dir2[,/path/to/dir3] /path/to/mount [-o options]

This is highly non-standard and may be subject to breakage (e.g. if one of the
paths themselves contain a comma, untested).

Using a more standard syntax, perhaps making use of the GNU parsing libraries
(http://www.gnu.org/software/libtool/manual/libc/Parsing-Program-Arguments.html),

would allow for the standard argument format e.g.:

mhddfs /dir1 /dir2 [/dir3...] /mountpoint [-o options]
or
mhddfs [-o options] /dir1 /dir2 [/dir3...] /mountpoint

which would also allow for the directories to be tab-completed, as expected.

Neat fuse file system though.

Bug#508272: gnome-splashscreen-manager: Refuses to start, undefined symbol: gtk_file_system_error_quark

I've exactly the same which means that this symbol is... undefined.
Right?

I've tried to downgrade libgtk2-ruby1.8 but there are many (too much)
dependencies and this break other packages. There are also only few
available and installable versions.

I've exactly the same message with gnome-art but this is not really a
surprise.

I tried to get available parts of gnome 2.24 and newest version of gtk2
on experimental without more success.

I've nothing is my path (i.e /usr/local/bin) which can interfere with
that command.

Jean-Luc

Bug#508331: Evince and others keep crashing when opening a certain PDF

2008-12-10 Thread Alexander Kurtz
Package: evince
Version: 2.22.2-4~lenny1
Severity: normal

Evince keeps crashing when opening this PDF:

http://kreis-ed.info/komxpress/DynDox/0BFA1B15-5FE7-484E-934D-9264D893901B/Antrag_auf_Papiertonne.pdf
(MD5SUM bc03024e60a5f047540063e30ff1517b)

I've tried some other pdf viewers, they all failed (see output below).
Okular managed to print out a back-trace after installing the
debugging symbols. It has been attached.

I _guess_ that either the PDF isn't valid (which shouldn't be a reason
for a crash) or that libpoppler or some other common library contains a
bug. Therefore this bug should soon be reassigned.

Bug#508332: seahorse: won't add personal SSH key to authorized_keys file

2008-12-10 Thread Sébastien Villemot
Package: seahorse
Version: 2.22.3-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

When I go to the "Properties" dialog box of my personal SSH key, seahorse
refuses to let me tick the checkbox entitled "The owner of this key is
authorized to connect to this computer".

In other terms, seahorse refuses to copy the content of ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
into ~/.ssh/authorized_keys.

When I do the copy manually, the checkbox becomes ticked in seahorse. I can
untick it, but I will then be unable to tick it again.

Best,

Sébastien Villemot

i could not test it with the same kernel...

Bug#507674: Patch to use threads instead of processes

2008-12-10 Thread Haas, Franz
Hi,

Since the code to use threads is already sitting there, I activated it
with this little patch.

This solution is not beautiful, but works for me as far as I can tell.
IMHO the much cleaner solution
would be to find out what is causing the problem, and "ifing" on that,
just like it is done for
the windows port.

I am willing to participate further in this bug hunt.

Franz

(/me hates legal stiff)

From what I see, the tango icons are taken from the Tango project.
From the tarball I downloaded from tango.freedesktop.org, the license
is CC-SA-2.5.

One problem with it is that it is not compatible with GPL (AIUI,
because it poses additional restrictions).

Another -- that CC-SA requires that derivative works include the full
license text as well as the list of authors. This is something Padre
does not.

More[1], it fails the Debian Free Software Guidelines[2], therefore
cannot be part of Debian. (There is Debian package named
tango-icon-themes in non-free).

[1] http://evan.prodromou.name/Debian_Creative_Commons_Workgroup_report
[2] http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines

So, as I see it:
* Padre is not distributable, as GPL and CC-SA-2.5 conflict[3];
* Padre is breaking CC-SA-2.5 by not distributing the full license
 text and authors list;
* Debian cannot ship Padre with CC-SA-2.5-licensed material in it.

[3] I am not sure how CC-SA-2.5 interoperates with Artistic
license

Is chosing another icon set an option?

The problem is not that the file IS NOW in libdb-dev in Debian but
that IT WAS. At least I don't believe I ever compiled my own libdb.

As you can see from the above once libdb-dev was updated from 4.6.21-8
to 4.7.25.2 the installation of libdb4.6-dev succeeded.

I'm assuming libdb-dev was renamed to libdb4.6-dev when 4.7 was
uploaded and then a "Replaces: libdb-dev (<< 4.7)" is needed.

^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+[[:space:]]+: \(pam_[[:alnum:]]+\) session

pam_[[:alnum:]]+\(xdm:session\): session closed for user [[:alnum:]-]+$

Of these, the first two haven't got anything to do with xdm and should be
removed.

The last two on the other hand never matches, as current log lines are
formatted like:

Dec 9 10:21:28 tac xdm[6130]: pam_unix(xdm:session): session opened for user
wferi by wferi(uid=0)
Dec 9 19:09:20 tac xdm[6130]: pam_unix(xdm:session): session closed for user
wferi

So I recommend replacing the xdm rules with:

^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ xdm\[[0-9]+\]:
pam_[[:alnum:]]+\(xdm:session\): session opened for user [[:alnum:]-]+ by
[[:alnum:]-]+\(uid=[0-9]+\)$
^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ xdm\[[0-9]+\]:
pam_[[:alnum:]]+\(xdm:session\): session closed for user [[:alnum:]-]+$

Thanks,
Feri.

Bug#508062: P-a-s: Update unstable entry for gluezilla

I am not convinced that this should be done. Packages like gluezilla
and libgdiplus should IMHO not encode the architecture list in their
debian/control but instead rely on the build-dep on libmono-dev, which
would block them from building on all architectures until it comes
available.

Kind regards,

Bug#508339: cdrom: 'no common CD-ROM was detected' during 'detect & mount CD-ROM' step

2008-12-10 Thread clive
Package: cdrom
Severity: important

i'm trying to install 4.0r2 (etch) from DVDs on a Toshiba Satellite L-300
laptop with a Pentium Dual T3200 processor,
& using default boot (ie no parameters).

i seem to get some error msgs (from the bios, i think, which is an Insyde H2O
BIOS version 1.20), but end up
with the 'choose language' screen. i choose 'english', then 'united kingdom',
then 'british english'.

i see it's 'detecting hardware', then i get 'detect & mount CD-ROM' screen
telling me:

'no common CD-ROM drive was detected, you may need to load additional drivers
from a floppyetc'.

obviously i have no floppy & i reply: NO. i get: 'manually select CD-ROM
modules & drive'.
replying: YES here gets me a list i don't understand, & replying: NO gets me
'installation step failed'.

i can try to skip this installation step, but it won't allow this
(unsurprisingly, i guess).

the drive is a TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633A (S4) & i guess that this is what's
causing the problem as it isn't on
the list of known models?

Bug#482503: Problem still present also in S390

2008-12-10 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva
Hello,

Gustavo Noronha Silva <> helped me testing the actual
version (0.9.13-4) in raptor.debian.org, which is S390, and the bug is
still present. So, just by using --disable-split-objs was not enough to
fix it in this architecture. I haven't tested in ARM with
--disable-split-objs, but I don't think it'd work, since it haven't in
S390.

I have no ideas about this by now, so I'm mailing also Duncan Coutts to
help us.

It's at least in two arches now, and the ghc split-objs option is not
the problem, so is it a linker/toolchain bug?

Greetings.

For the default, the manual page says, "don't do anything in PostScript,
use the printer default."

For one -t, the manual page says, "force printer to do duplex."

For two -t options, the manual page says, "force printer not to do it."

For thre -t options, the manual page says, "force printer to do duplex."

All of the -t states in Debian's mpage 2.5.6-1 are exactly the opposite
of what they should be. Please swap them around.

Btw, don't forget to mark the basic constraint as critical as well. See
RFC 5280:

4.2.1.9. Basic Constraints
...
Conforming CAs MUST include this extension in all CA certificates

package of gdm doesn't install any .desktop files to
/usr/share/gdm/applications; they're all in /usr/share/applications. So every
application which searches XDG_DATA_DIRS searches gdm's directory for no
benefit to anyone.

I guess that either the package should install the .desktop files under
/usr/share/gdm/applications, or this should be patched out?

Bug#492506: Fix from the upstream maintainer

2008-12-10 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Chris

Thanks very much for looking into the issue, I'll prepare the latest version
with the mentioned patch.

Cheers,
Guerkan

I started a thread on rec.games.roguelike.misc and the maintainer of POWDER
stepped in and solved the problem. I won't repost the entire thread, but
here's the final summary:

The patch would be simple. Ignore the cstring.h issue which should be
just changed to string.h, you can in source.txt change the line

TILE_VOID 0

to

TILE_INVALID 65535
TILE_VOID 0

This will then cause the proper enums to be generated. Fortunately I
have no meta data on tiles so there is no consequence to having such a
large number. Note that this must be done BEFORE TILE_VOID since if
it is done at the end NUM_TILES would become huge.
--
Jeff Lait
(POWDER: http://www.zincland.com/powder)

(The reference to string.h and cstring.h is to a separate set of compiler
warnings, not to the segfault bug.)

Maybe this will mean that the latest version (1.09) can now come into
Debian, if it works?

Bug#432350: Packaging eclipse 3.4.1 for debian/ubuntu

2008-12-10 Thread Andreas Tille

On Wed, 10 Dec 2008, Pantelis Koukousoulas wrote:

I 'm interested to (help) package eclipse 3.4.1 for debian / ubuntu.

Great.

This is quite a big task so I 'd like as much help as I can get
if this is to succeed. The plan is to start by copying as much as
possible from what Fedora and Gentoo have already done
plus whatever debian/ubuntu work is already there and improving upon those.

Would you be willing to help?

I have to admit that I'm very frustrated about the responsibility of the
maintainer, namely the Debian Java Team to bug #432350 and the failure to
even send a single response to the bug report. The consequence that I
have to draw from this fact is that this team either does not have a single
member which is working on Eclipse at all.

If this assumtion is true - I hope at least this can be confirmed by any
member of the team, if not I have to assume that there is no such team at
all - I think we should add more staff to the team. So my first action
now was to subscribe to the list. I never felt competent to do so in the
past because ma Java knowledge is basically zero - but as I said, I have
some packaging experience and if there are some testers I might be helpful.

I also asked to add myself to the alioth project to be able to commit to
the development svn.

I would advise anybody who really intends to be helpful to follow these
two steps.

For the concrete packaging I would at first suggest to clean up the source
packaging. Currently the source tarball contains three zip archives from
completely separate upstream projects. IMHO this is no optimal packaging
strategy and I would start by packaging icu4j and jsch separately and
once this is done create a proper get-upstream-source target for debian/rules
to enable newcomers to drop in by providing a defined state of work.

In case there is some reason to merge separate upstream projects in one
source tarball which might have been introduced by Michael Koch (icu4) and
Vladimir Lapacek (jsch) I would like to hear these reasons and whether they
are valid until today (=with the new Eclipse version).

Kind regards

Andreas.

Bug#508011: starting the hal daemon makes the device accessible

2008-12-10 Thread Ludovic Rousseau

Jelle de Jong a écrit :

some update,

I remembert some thing I forgot to do:

It seems I need HAL to be able to access the device as normal user, I
still think this is a bug. Why do I need HAL for this? root can access
the device fine without hal, and the device group seems not to be set to
scard. Can the system be fixed so smartcard is usable without HAL?

pcscd uses HAL to detect reader insertion and removal (USB plug and play)

/etc/init.d/hal start
/etc/init.d/pcscd start

I confirm that if hal or pcscd are not running you may have problems
using GPG as a normal user.

Maybe you should report the bug to gnupg.

I'll do all my work as root, I don't have a regular user !
I don't think I am the only (stupid ;-) ) who use root to work, so this maybe
will help others.
So please let me watch my movies as root too !!!

This is not true: I already worked on the new version around two weeks
ago [1], but then I had stopped because of real life work (and other Debian
stuff) and I have already planned to finish this week :-)

FWIW, a new *unofficial* package is already available for people to be
tested (see bug #466758 [2]) and I am adapting all the quick changes I
did in that package to the official one.

The above should be -> SYMLINK+="hplj1000-%n" .

This is probably the major problem: the lenny version is outdated and it
does not work with some printers [3]. OTOH, I am not really sure if at
this point of the release process a new upstream version will be ever
accepted into lenny. I cc:ed the d-release mailing list to know how to
proceed here: porting the fix to the outdated package or updating the
new version, asking for a lenny exception.

Thx, bye,

Bug#508343: libpt2.4.2: compiled with unixodbc support on i386 only, -dev doesn't depend on unixodbc-dev

2008-12-10 Thread Werner Pantke
Package: libpt2.4.2
Version: 2.4.2-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 3.5

Dear VoIP team,

on i386 systems ptlib compiles with unixodbc support while it doesn't on other
archs (as far is I can see). Since the Deps of the -dev package are hardcoded,
it doesn't mention unixodbc-dev as dependency on i386, though.

Due to this bug, packages like ekiga, that depend on ptlib, cannot be built on
i386 ("/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lodbc"). See this build log for more details:
http://experimental.debian.net/fetch.php?&pkg=ekiga&ver=3.0.1-1&arch=i386&stamp=1227948861&file=log&as=raw

I suggest to build ptlib with --disable-odbc option as odbc isn't compiled in
for other archs anyway. (Alternatively, you may want to check why odbc support
isn't built on those other platforms or whatever you can do to make apps which
link against this lib build again on i386.)

I was told to set this bug >= important, but feel free to change the severity!

Best regards,
Werner

Wait - you disabled oggflac, but the oggflac code was included in the
MPD binary? That shouldn't happen, I'll check that. Please send me
your config.log and config.h.

The "oggflac" plugin attempts to decode all .ogg files, but will see
that it it does not contain a FLAC stream, and quit.

But before that, the oggvorbis plugin should have taken over this
file. I assume the oggvorbis plugin got disabled on your machine,
maybe because we broke tremor support.

Gilles or Decklin: any chance that I can get shell access to an armel
machine? That way, I could eliminate all build problems very fast.

Bug#508340: Plugin location has become hard to detect

2008-12-10 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: gdal
Version: 1.5.1-4
Severity: normal

Hello,

thanks for packaging gdal.

The 1.5.1-4 upload has introduced this change:

 * [PATCH] gdalpaths.dpatch added to use the same plugins directory
used currently in gdal-grass. It would require a much better approach
upstream. See #2371 upstream bug. Also changed path for share dir path
to /usr/share/gdal15.
(closes: #481263)

Now I'm trying to write autotools support to install a GDAL plugin into
a system. Upstream documents the use of /usr/lib/gdalplugins, but after
1.5.1-4, Debian has diverged from that. Now, I can only think of three
ways to find out whether I should install to /usr/lib/gdalplugins or
/usr/lib/gdal15plugins:

1. Test for which of the two directories exists.
2. Mess around with dpkg, to see if I am in Debian and what version of
gdal is currently installed.
3. Use /usr/lib/gdalplugins unless overridden by a new ./configure
option (and therefore, leave it up to the user or the .deb
packager)

So, basically Debian has now diverged from upstream in a nonstandard
way, that requires all plugin install systems to have custom install
procedures especially for Debian.

Upstream has updated bug #2371 about this problem.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#508341: lintian: Dropped html color output

2008-12-10 Thread Adam D. Barratt

Hi,

lintian had a nice --color html which we ftpmaster used. Now in 2.1.1
thats gone. Please put it back. Thanks.

HTML colour output was dropped in 2.1.0 as part of the reorganisation of
Lintian's output methods. I assume no-one had realised that it was in active
use. :-/

Reintroducing it shouldn't be a problem, although I'm debating whether that
should be directly (by readding the original option) or as an alternative
output format (i.e. "lintian --exp-output format=htmlcolor" or similar).

Adam

It's at least a bad interaction between ghc and the toolchain on that
platform. It'd need more investigation by ghc experts.

I suggest you file a ticket in the ghc bug tracker with full details of
the problem. To keep things simple, only report the problem in the
default case of not using split-objs. Adding split-objs into the mix
only makes things more complex.

I don't understand either why your tarball didn't match upstream.

It might be related to my errors in the past of improper use of
pristine-tar, leading to non-virgin tarballs being uploaded. But exactly
how that could lead to current problem I don't know.

Another problem is that your posts to our mailinglists got rejected. And
it seems I've lost my admin password to that list. I am working on that!

Bug#490999:

2008-12-10 Thread Max Dmitrichenko
>> * When a newer compiler package is available for a distribution, is

>No.

But this is definitely non-sense. IIRC potentially every library is a
subject to be affected by the compiler's bug. The fact that other libs
don't cause such a destructive behavior (as Qt with kicker) is just a
matter of luck.

Personally I noticed that Konqueror on sparc is also VERY unstable.
Every third site opened by it crashes the Konqueror (or KJS). This is
not reproducable on i386. So, IMHO, this is somehow related to this
bug.

I think that investigate weather each crash is related to compiler's
bug or not is quite expensive an ineffective task. I think that
everything should be recompiled.

So is it not a pcscd related issue, that the smartcard is perfectly
accessible as root, but not as normal user when hal is not running? I am
also kind of curious why the usb device permissions are not set with the
group scard.

I will try to figure out some more info how gpg uses the smartcard...

I tried to port the patch, but I failed. Asterisk compiles but core dumps on

Bug#508334: Fix for non-LVM cciss-based root

2008-12-10 Thread bugreporter
I have (not fully tested) patch to make mkinitramfs generate the image
for non-lvm cciss-based root too.
Previous patch only fixes situation with root on lvm-on-cciss_partition.

I have not tested the image, generated by patched mkinitramfs,
but I am sure, it was generated without error.

Somebody else should try boot it.

Bug#508336: output empty lines after timer expiry

2008-12-10 Thread martin f krafft
Package: monkeytail
Version: 0.3.0-1
Severity: wishlist

I think it would make more sense to print the empty lines right when
the timer expires, not only when the next log entries come in.
I often enter a few newlines while waiting for more log lines, and
it's comforting to see the newlines at the end and to know that
nothing has happened.

I agree with you, chossing the icon in nautilus isn't as friendly as in
gnome-panel.
The bug wasn't quite relative to the upstream bug #325024 as the reporter
wishes to have a friendlier chooser dialog.
For what concerns the Icon position in the properties, the "Icon:" label has
been dropped both in gnome-panel and in the recent upstream #325024.
Latest nautilus versions have cleaned up the "Basic" tab and now the icon
is more visible.
Lowering to wishlist as it doesn't affect the program functionality.

Bug#363524: Additional information + testpackages

2008-12-10 Thread Durk Strooisma
Hi,

I encountered the same issue; the unnecessary question for overwriting a
conffile that does not exist anymore, because it's already diverted. But
in contrast to the original bug poster, removing the package in question
wasn't a problem, unless the dpkg-divert removal statement in put in the
right postrm target.

Another observation is that if the overwriting package has the new
configuration file not marked as conffile, no question is asked (as it
should be).

I created some test packages (all attached) to demonstrate the issue.

test-pkg-c
--

Installs /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file as conffile.

test-pkg-d
--

Diverts /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted
and installs a different /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file (also) as conffile.

test-pkg-e
--

Diverts /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted
and installs a different /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file, but not marking it as
conffile.

Demonstration
-

First we install test-pkg-c:

# dpkg -i test-pkg-c_0.1_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package test-pkg-c.
(Reading database ... 15719 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking test-pkg-c (from test-pkg-c_0.1_all.deb) ...
Setting up test-pkg-c (0.1) ...
# ls -l /etc/test-pkg-c
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9 2008-12-10 11:04 config-file

Okay, everything seems fine. Next, test-pkg-e:

# dpkg -i test-pkg-e_0.1_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package test-pkg-e.
(Reading database ... 15724 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking test-pkg-e (from test-pkg-e_0.1_all.deb) ...
Adding `diversion of /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to
/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted by test-pkg-e'
Setting up test-pkg-e (0.1) ...
# ls -l /etc/test-pkg-c
total 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 19 2008-12-10 11:35 config-file
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9 2008-12-10 11:04 config-file.diverted
# dpkg-divert --list /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file
diversion of /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to
/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted by test-pkg-e

Okay, seems fine. As said before, if the overwriting file is not marked as
conffile, no question is asked. Let's remove/purge test-pkg-e:

# dpkg -P test-pkg-e
(Reading database ... 15727 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing test-pkg-e ...
Removing `diversion of /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to
/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted by test-pkg-e'
Purging configuration files for test-pkg-e ...
# ls -l /etc/test-pkg-c
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9 2008-12-10 11:04 config-file
# dpkg-divert --list /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file
#

Okay, package was nicely removed, nothing left and original file restored.
Now we're going to install test-pkg-d:

# dpkg -i test-pkg-d_0.1_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package test-pkg-d.
(Reading database ... 15724 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking test-pkg-d (from test-pkg-d_0.1_all.deb) ...
Adding `diversion of /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to
/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted by test-pkg-d'
Setting up test-pkg-d (0.1) ...

Configuration file `/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file'
==> Deleted (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** config-file (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? Y
Installing new version of config file /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file ...
# ls -l /etc/test-pkg-c
total 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13 2008-12-10 11:07 config-file
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9 2008-12-10 11:04 config-file.diverted
# dpkg-divert --list /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file
diversion of /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to
/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted by test-pkg-d

Everything went alright, but as said before the question is pointless here.
Even more strange: if chosen to do a diff (D), dpkg diffs the new file
against an empty file, which doesn't make sense. Chosing N instead of Y
will leave an inconsistent system, we will demonstrate this later, first we
need to remove/purge test-pkg-d:

# dpkg -P test-pkg-d
(Reading database ... 15727 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing test-pkg-d ...
Purging configuration files for test-pkg-d ...
Removing `diversion of /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file to
/etc/test-pkg-c/config-file.diverted by test-pkg-d'
# ls -l /etc/test-pkg-c
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9 2008-12-10 11:04 config-file
# dpkg-divert --list /etc/test-pkg-c/config-file
#

Okay, package was nicely removed, nothing left and original file restored.
Now we're going to install test-pkg-d and answer N:

# dpkg -i test-pkg-d_0.1_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package test-pkg-d.
(Reading database ... 15724 files and directories current

I have no idea why, but the XFCE desktop reliably blurs wallpaper images, even

Bug#504042: perl-doc recommendation

Exactly.

On reflection, this is really a UI issue and an additional control
field should not be necessary. More complex UIs like aptitude, or the
venerable dselect handle this by punting the choice on a case-by case
basis to the user... apt-get is a bit more coarse.

Perhaps APT::Install-Recommends should be a tri-state: "always | never
| direct" rather than a boolean to achieve the same result. With
"direct" of course selecting only recommended packages which are
direct dependencies of the packages given on the command line.

Or, as you say, it may not be worth the effort. Disk these days is
relatively cheap, and perl-doc is all of 8M. Special cases require
special handling--If disk space, or network bandwidth is really of
such a premium, then perhaps a more judicious manual selection is
required by the user.

here's the final summary:

(The reference to string.h and cstring.h is to a separate set of compiler
warnings, not to the segfault bug.)

Maybe this will mean that the latest version (1.09) can now come into
Debian, if it works?

Yes, I got the same, using the above sequence of steps and this
command line:

 strace -fo /tmp/dnsmasq.strace dnsmasq --no-daemon --conf-file
--bind-interfaces --listen-address=172.23.0.1

--dhcp-authoritative

Since you did not assign the IPv4 address in the above, and I didn't
either, IPv4 wasn't bound either, which was expected.

I think, in my case, the problem is that the "tentative" flag is set on
that address. I have no idea how that happened, but adding new addresses
to the same interface doesn't set the tentative flag and doesn't see the
error on bind().

Are you seeing that too?

I'm out beyond my IPv6 comfort zone here: Is it possible to take this
somewhere where IPv6 experts hang out?

Simon.

Thanks for stepping in. My upload was REJECTED. (I don't quite
understand why, so I used the option in the reject mail to ask for help

Yeah, you might be right in this. Popcon shows it has some users:

It doesn't have any bug report (just a minor one asking for a proper watch file
and the homepage)

Bug#508355: texlive-latex-recommended: Current Koma-classes break xkeyval behaviour

2008-12-10 Thread Johannes Werner
Package: texlive-latex-recommended
Version: 2007.dfsg.1-4
Severity: important

The current Koma-script included in testing (lenny) redefines the
commands and , thus breaking the
latex-package
"xkeyval". This is an issue with version 2.95 of Koma-script.
Starting from 2.96, this problem is resolved by a new definition
making the commands compatible to the earlier version.

I hope for a "newer" or a "fixed" version of either texlive or the
included Koma-script to be included in the upcoming release "lenny".

Sincerly,
Joe Werner

Bug#508357: python-foomatic: Fails to detect USB printer

2008-12-10 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: python-foomatic
Severity: normal

Hi

detect_usb_printers() in detect.py fails to detect the USB printer, if
it doesn't exist on /dev/usb/lp0 . If I have two USB printers attached
and then remove the first one, udev removes /dev/usb/lp0, but keeps
/dev/usb/lp1 for the second one. The attached patch checks for such
cases and tries to specify the first lp device it finds.
Please consider including it into detect.py.

Cheers

Bug#508011: starting the hal daemon makes the device accessible

some update,

I remember some thing I forgot to do:

It seems I need HAL to be able to access the device as normal user, I
still think this is a bug. Why do I need HAL for this? root can access
the device fine without hal, and the device group seems not to be set to
scard. Can the system be fixed so smartcard is usable without HAL?

pcscd uses HAL to detect reader insertion and removal (USB plug and play)

/etc/init.d/hal start
/etc/init.d/pcscd start
I confirm that if hal or pcscd are not running you may have problems
using GPG as a normal user.

Maybe you should report the bug to gnupg.

Bye

So is it not a pcscd related issue, that the smartcard is perfectly
accessible as root, but not as normal user when hal is not running?

You have NOT answered any of my questions.
- Is pcscd running when you can't acces the smart card as a normal user?

- Have you installed pcscd? It is a Recommends: for libccid and should
be installed by default.

- Have you manually stopped or disabled the execution of pcscd?

I am
also kind of curious why the usb device permissions are not set with the
group scard.

It is planned in future versions. Se
https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=310905&group_id=30105&atid=410088

I will try to figure out some more info how gpg uses the smartcard...

Good idea

Bug#508359: Does ltsp-client-core work with tftp too?

2008-12-10 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: ltsp-client-core
Version: 5.1.10-2

I discovered this when trying to install debian-edu-config together
with ltsp-client-core in a ltsp chroot. The debian-edu-config package
depend on tftp, while ltsp-client-core depend on tftp-hpa, and
tftp-hpa conflict with tftp. This resulted in ltsp-client-core,
ltsp-client and tftp-hpa being removed from the LTSP chroot when
installing debian-edu-config. I'm fixing this by changing the
dependency of debian-edu-config from 'tftp' to 'tftp | tftp-hpa'. Is
this an idea to do for ltsp-client-core too?

Happy hacking,

How did you add the address to the iface in the first place?

Is there anything in dmesg? Could it be that another iface has the
same address, even on another host?

No.

I am trying... anyway, it's not the tentative flag, that should
really not influence the problem at hand, I think.

Hello,

This is a test of a peer-review system for proofing debian/copyright files.

http://wiki.debian.org/CopyrightReview

I think that libnet-amazon-s3-tools-perl is ready for upload to the Debian
archive. The sources can be downloaded with the following command:

svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-perl/trunk/libnet-amazon-s3-tools-perl

Normally one should review first and request after, but this is the first
package. I will of course review pakcages when new requests will come :)

Have a nice day,

Bug#508342: ant: Ant dependency

2008-12-10 Thread Onkar Shinde
Ant itself does not need java compiler to run. Following is the message I get.

$ ant
Unable to locate tools.jar. Expected to find it in
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/lib/tools.jar
Buildfile: build.xml does not exist!
Build failed

You can see that while tools.jar is not present, ant tried to lookup
build.xml in current directory. Which means ant is running fine.
You will need tools.jar only when you decide to use tasks that are
accomplished with JDK ex. compilations, javadoc generation etc. For
the tasks which don't need JDK ant will work just fine without
tools.jar ex. creating directories, copying files, archiving
directories etc.

java2-compiler can be added as 'Recommends' to ant as javac is in my
opinion most frequently used task. But the decision needs to be taken
by package maintainers.
