Bug#514055: debian still not working on PS3
On Sat, Mar 21, 2009 at 06:38:20PM +0100, Wouter Verhelst wrote: The correct installer is chosen based on a set of rules for the subsystem. I'm assuming that there's no rule for PS3 here. Similar things are true for the partitioner. Nope, there isn't. Hrm. Does the PS3 boot with yaboot? If so, you should have been able to select yaboot, and have it be installed to the system. That should also have created your yaboot.conf. PS3 is booted with kboot, which is able to interpret yaboot.conf. Thus, the correct behaviour on that platform would be to create yaboot.conf, but without bootloader installation itself :) (as Debian does not have kboot, and I presume hardly ever will). I'll continue working on this stuff, this was just a test image to make sure kernel modules were loaded fine. -- Regards, Vartan. Bug#514674: audacious: Segfaults when opening ape file
If you have a version of mplayer which can actually play the bad sections of that file, all I can say is that I want to know how it does it. The squeeze version, which crashes, has code very similar to the existing Audacious code. The sid version adds some fairly simple error handling, which looks like it would skip over the bad sections just like Marillat's lenny version does. (But I can't run the sid version, so I can't verify that that is what it actually does.) I'm no expert in .ape decoding, so I think that the patch that just plays silence over the bad sections is the best that I can do. Those are the Default fields of debian/templates as they are still marked as translatable in what you uploaded while the review unmarked them. Another suggestion is using the comment we did put at the beginning of the templates file (reattached to this mail): # These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english # team # # If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask # debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. # # Even minor modifications require translation updates and such # changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. It is very useful to spot packages that already had a review, particularly in the future (reviews are a slow process and we might still be reviewing package descriptions in 10 years...). This is a reason for which I tend to discourage uploads related to the Smith reviews before the full review cycle is completed. By experience, it is likely to add confusion, particularly in cases (that happen) where translators spot remaining glitches in the reviewed templates. # These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english # team # # If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask # debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. # # Even minor modifications require translation updates and such # changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. Bug#520648: Emacs Occur-Mode usability regression (Focus switching)

Impossible to bring focus into Occur-buffer with mouse. This bug should be dealt with by upstream. Note that you can enhance the chance for this by reporting the issue upstream with M-x report-emacs-bug instead of hoping that someone forwards your report. Previous versions of Emacs would handle the left and middle mouse button differently in an occur (or grep) buffer. The left mouse button would place the cursor/focus into the occur buffer, while the middle mouse button would jump to the point of occurrence. Latest Emacs has changed that and will also jump to the point of occurrence on left mouse button. The effect is that it is impossible to place the focus in the Occur buffer (for scrolling it) with the mouse. One has to use C-x o. Please read the section ** Mouse changes: in the NEWS file why this was done and what you can do. In the working context of checking many occurrences, not all of which need looking up, this is very tedious. It would be nice to bring the previous behaviour back. Bug#520647: Emacs GUD-Mode usability regression (Buffer switching)
On 2009-03-21 16:42 +0100, Claus Fischer wrote: Package: emacs22-common Version: 22.2+2-5 Summary: Latest Emacs will switch buffers away from gud buffer when reaching a breakpoint. Extremely annoying. This bug should be dealt with by upstream. When debugging with gdb under Emacs in gud-mode, the latest Emacs has the annoying habit of switching buffers away from the *gud...* buffer. This happens mainly when the execution flow reaches a breakpoint, and when no other screen or window shows the code listing of that breakpoint. Previous Emacses would then split the screen, and show the location of the breakpoint in the other half, while input focus remains in the gud buffer. Current versions still do this, at least for me. The latest Emacs has changed that, it will replace the gud buffer with the buffer showing the code. I cannot reproduce that. Could you please give a precise recipe starting with emacs22 -Q? Bug#520503: ttf-beteckna: Created new characters (euro, umlaut u), clean up of existing characters
Hello Alexander In ttf-beteckna the German umlaut ü (u with 2 dots - U+00DC, U+00FC) was missing. I created the characters for each set (bold, italic, etc). And while I was on it, I also created the circumflex, acute and grave versions of that letter. The bold (and some italic) versions of c, the sharp sz (ß, U+00DF), beta (U+03b2), right curly bracket (U+007D), inverted exclamation mark (U+00A1) and $ were screwed up a little bit. Obsolete points removed. Created the EUR sign (U+20AC) for each set. ttf-beteckna looks very similar to Futura. Its euro sign can be found on wikipedia websites: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurozeichen (German version). However I do not know about copyright issues and hence did not redesign the displayed euro sign. I thought, I design one which fits into the overall layout instead. I also replaced some umlauts and letters with acute, grave, etc. with references. E.g. the umlaut ü is generated by the reference to u and dieresis. Some existing characters were simply copied and not referred. Fixed the vertical line (U+007C) and introduced the borken pipe (U+00A6) in each set. The generated ttfs (generated by fontforge) are attached to this bug report. Please let me know, if the file format is suitable for you. That's very nice of you. Since I am also maintaining the webpage and upstream releases. Would you mind sending me your original sfd files? Maybe you've seen I only edit one sfd, and generate the others? Bug#520709: awesome: Client windows does not regain focus if it is the last client in tag
Package: awesome Version: 3.2-1 Severity: normal Description: After upgrade to awesome-3.2-1 I noticed that client windows -- terminals and terminal applications as far as I can tell -- stay unfocussed even if they are the last client on a particular tag. This only happens when tag has one of the following layouts: * awful.layout.suit.tile.left * awful.layout.suit.magnifier * awful.layout.suit.tile.top -- or if I start a floating application (mplayer for instance) and exit this floating app. By stay unfocussed I mean that I can work inside such an terminal fine but everything that indicates an unfocussed terminal client window (faded color, cursor is not a block but a rectangle) is present. I checked if it could be something inside my rc.lua by renaming it und let awesome use shipped rc.lua but without success. I.e.: this annoying behavior occurs with the shipped rc.lua, too. Steps to reproduce: - choose layout awful.layout.suit.tile.left - open first terminal - open second terminal - close second terminal = the first terminal is the only client on this tag but does not gain focus I played arround a little bit and it seems that every terminal with an uneven 'number' shows this behaviour. - choose layout awful.layout.suit.tile.left - open four terminals - close term 4 - terminal 3 gets _active_ but stays unfocussed - close term 3 - terminal 2 gets active and gets focus - close term 2 - terminal 1 gets _active_ but stays unfocussed In addition I also noticed that sometimes a client window that is the only one on a particular tag does not gain focus if I switch to this tag. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages awesome depends on: ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.8.6-2The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libev33.43-1.1 high-performance event loop librar ii libglib2.0-0 2.18.4-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libimlib2 1.4.2-4powerful image loading and renderi ii liblua5.1-0 5.1.4-2Simple, extensible, embeddable pro ii libncurses5 5.7+20090228-1 shared libraries for terminal hand ii libpango1.0-0 1.22.4-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libreadline5 5.2-4 GNU readline and history libraries ii libx11-6 2:1.2-1X11 client-side library ii libxcb-atom1 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-aux0 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-event1 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-icccm1 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-image0 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-keysyms0 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-property1 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-randr0 1.2-1 X C Binding, randr extension ii libxcb-render-util0 0.3.3-2utility libraries for X C Binding ii libxcb-render01.2-1 X C Binding, render extension ii libxcb-shm0 1.2-1 X C Binding, shm extension ii libxcb-xinerama0 1.2-1 X C Binding, xinerama extension ii libxcb-xtest0 1.2-1 X C Binding, xtest extension ii libxcb1 1.2-1 X C Binding ii menu 2.1.41 generates programs menu for all me Versions of packages awesome recommends: ii x11-xserver-utils 7.3+5 X server utilities awesome suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#520715: hpijs-ppds - Photosmart D7260 doesn't accept papersizes DIN A5 and DIN A6
Package: hpijs-ppds Version: 3.9.2-3 Dear Maintainers, I have an up-to-date Sid System and problems with my HP Photosmart D7260, which I had not with an older version of hpijs and other hplip stuff in version 2.8.6. I configure a printer Queue with hplip and give it a fine tuning with cups webinterface, A6 printing, Photo Paper, Full Bleed etc. When I try to print a DIN A6 testpage from cups webinterface, then the printer starts the job but interrupts it suddenly with a message on the touch screen of the printer, that there is the wrong paper type or wrong paper format in the printer tray, but thats not true, its DIN A6, original HP Photopaper and the printing side is at the bottom. The same behaviour with DIN A5 paper. Only DIN A4 paper my printer accept. With older version of hplip and hpijs stuff, there is no conflict. Could this perhaps have to do with another package too? Here I think, its a little bit difficult to find out, if it has to do with an issue in cups, foomatic or hplip and its stuff? cups stuff: 1.3.9-15 foomatic-filters: 4.0-20090311-1 Please tell me, if you need further information. However 'dpkg -S -- -pic' does not work because dpkg actually call 'dpkg-query -S -pic'. The attach patch make dpkg to add a -- delimiter after the options, to avoid this issue. I was worried that this could have been on purpose in some cases for example to also pass supplementary options. But my reading of the code and the usage of dpkg-deb/dpkg-query suggest that this is not the case. So I'll apply your patch shortly (and your other one for #386197). In the future, please create patches with git format-patch so that you take care of writing the git log entry and we can apply it with git am. Hi John, You are right - I'm adding a licensing to bnx2x_init_values.h similar to the bnx2 license that you quoted. However, I'm not sure if now is a good time to send such a patch to netdev for net-2.6 so I'm sending it to net-next - please let me know if this is not enough. Bug#476377: Please port to new libmpcdec API
Am Samstag, den 21.03.2009, 17:54 +0100 schrieb Max Kellermann: On 2009/03/21 09:59, Sebastian Dröge sl...@circular-chaos.org wrote: Of course the older library (libmpcdec3) will still exist (for some time) and old packages will continue to work *but* libmpdec-dev will be the new version with the new API which will make mpd and other packages fail to build if they're not ported to the new API. That's because you chose not to add the SO version number to the name of the -dev package, forcing everybody to migrate to the new API. That is absurd. This is common practice for libraries that are not made for parallel installability (gtk+ 1.2 and 2.0 for example) and was done for many other packages in the past too (example: dbus), especially when the API didn't change that much. It doesn't make much sense to keep an old, unmaintained library around for a long time IMHO. Also porting to this new API will give you a lot of bugfixes and support for the new musepack streamversion 8, which is the musepack file format that is created by the new encoders. Your application won't be able to handle those files otherwise. signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil

Bug#518893: Lost gfortran and f95 support regression
Hi, You mentioned in a private email that you mis-filed the version, that this bug is already fixed in 0.16 and you found it against 0.15. Can you verify? At Mon, 9 Mar 2009 11:52:39 +0900, Andrew Buckeridge wrote: Package: binfmtc Version: 0.16-1 It had Fortran 95 support for a while, but now it has gone. Porting back to the Old Fortran character set would be unlikely anyway. The interpreter looks for g77 which is no longer available. You may as well get rid of c BINFMTF: and support for g77. In Old Fortran you could use '*' or 'C' in first column for a comment. In Fortran 95 comments start with '!'. In my earlier patch I recommended the magic ! BINFMTF95: and the interpreter used gfortran. You could use the shorter ! BINFMTF: if it is not being reserved for g95 -std=F use. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#520735: mutt: Threading does not work with certain message IDs
Package: mutt Version: 1.5.18-6 Severity: normal I recently received mails with message IDs of the form 000301c9aacc$fbf88bb0$f3e9a3...@censored@web.de (where the account name of the guy in question has been replaced with censored by me). The message was generated with Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0. With these messages threaded display does not work because of the second @. The replies to such messages are attached to the replied-to messages father instead, or are put into their own thread if the replied-to message has no father. Thread editing works only until the next time the Mailbox is reopened. It's only the display part that does not work, if I reply to such a message with mutt the message ID of the replied-to message will appear in the In-Reply-To: and References: fields of the reply. While such message ID are of course not standard-compliant it would be nice it mutt could support them. I don't know whether Outlook or Web.de is the culprit, but either way a substantial amount of sent mails is affected. (Web.de is a big german freemail provider) If you believe it helps I can create a sample mbox demonstrating the problem. Bug#386197: dpkg: strtol checks don't fail when given a null string
On Fri, 20 Mar 2009, Bill Allombert wrote: This is easy to fix by checking (s==end), or by setting errno=0 before calling strto* functions, and checking (errno!=0) afterwards (see the recently-updated manpage example). Given enough time, I will eventually provide a patch for this, but I don't know that I'll get to it anytime soon.. The attached patch should fix that and is conformant with man strtoul: In particular, if *nptr is not '\0' but **endptr is '\0' on return, the entire string is valid. Bug#427947: tomcat5.5 and tomcat6 behaviour
Not sure if this is still the same, but since moving to jsvc, stdin and stdout have been redirected to syslog, so the logging shouldn't be going catalina.out and catalina.err, so shouldn't get anywhere as large and shouldn't need rotating. Package: cups Version: 1.3.8-1lenny4.1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable As of late I cannot print with brother HL-2030 anymore. Bug#495095: Cause of this bug
I finally worked out what was causing Xchat to quit when Ctrl+X was pressed. It was caused by the bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162726. Basically, if you have both QWERTY and DVORAK keyboard layouts configured at the same time, then keyboard shortcuts from both layouts are in effect. I guess that in the DVORAK layout, pressing the X key on a QWERTY keyboard gets you a Q and hence Xchat quits. -- Sam Morris https://robots.org.uk/ PGP key id 1024D/5EA01078 3412 EA18 1277 354B 991B C869 B219 7FDB 5EA0 1078 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#520651: GDB crashes on watchpoints with illegal addresses
On Sat, Mar 21, 2009 at 04:59:34PM +0100, Claus Fischer wrote: With the latest gdb, a watchpoint which points into allocated memory that is not available at process start, will not only cause the program but also gdb to crash and abort. Can you show me an example debug session where this happens? I've used this feature as recently as yesterday. It worked fine, and in fact I was very happy with it - you used to get GDB errors on startup but now it will detect the first write even if memory was previosuly unmapped. -- Daniel Jacobowitz CodeSourcery -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#494133: Catalan translation for Serpentine

Many thanks. Hi David, I'm sorry for not responding sooner. The Serpentine upstream seems inactive these days and I am considering orphaning the package since it has been replaced in newer GNOME releases by Brasero. Regardless, can you tell me if it is sufficient to drop the right .po file into the source directory? The Ubuntu changes to the package include a lot of translation-related stuff which I frankly don't understand. Bug#493951: libpkg-guide: recommendations are contrary to accepted best practices
tags 493951 +help thanks On Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 07:32, Steve Langasek vor...@debian.org wrote: Package: libpkg-guide Version: 0.0.20070413 Severity: serious The libpkg-guide that has been packaged and is now in the archive gives recommendations regarding -dev package naming which are not at all representative of a consensus in Debian. We already have problems with library maintainers inserting sonames into their -dev package names based on the unclear/misguided advice of this document; shipping it in a stable release would be seen by many as an endorsement by the Debian project, and no such endorsement exists. There *particularly* isn't such an endorsement from the Debian release team, for whom gratuitous -dev package name changes make library transitions more difficult by orders of magnitude. This package should not be included in a stable release until the recommendations have been revised to reflect best practices. I waited long, then I finally decided to ask for help to fix this bug. Sadly, I don't have the time to properly read all the documentation and forge a patch to the current package (and Junichi is in the same situation). So I'm here to ask for your help in fixing it.
