Bug#514055: debian still not working on PS3

things are true for the partitioner.

Nope, there isn't.

Hrm. Does the PS3 boot with yaboot? If so, you should have been able to
select yaboot, and have it be installed to the system. That should also
 have created your yaboot.conf.

PS3 is booted with kboot, which is able to interpret yaboot.conf. Thus, the
correct behaviour on that platform would be to create yaboot.conf, but without
bootloader installation itself :) (as Debian does not have kboot, and I presume
hardly ever will).

I'll continue working on this stuff, this was just a test image to make sure
kernel modules were loaded fine.

Bug#520701: caret: FTBFS on 32bit archs -- incompatibility with VTK = 5.2

2009-03-22 Thread Michael Hanke
Package: caret

Severity: serious

Caret still seems to have incompatibilities with VTK = 5.2:

.../caret_files/libCaretFiles.so: undefined reference to

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

It looks like this is related to a datatype issue, and maybe due to the
use of int and long instead of vtkIdType.

Bug#514674: audacious: Segfaults when opening ape file

2009-03-22 Thread John Lindgren
If you have a version of mplayer which can actually play the bad
sections of that file, all I can say is that I want to know how it does
it. The squeeze version, which crashes, has code very similar to the
existing Audacious code. The sid version adds some fairly simple error
handling, which looks like it would skip over the bad sections just like
Marillat's lenny version does. (But I can't run the sid version, so I
can't verify that that is what it actually does.)

I'm no expert in .ape decoding, so I think that the patch that just
plays silence over the bad sections is the best that I can do.

And that apparently failed in some wayMy trackers just notified me
that gitosis translation is incomplete

The -12 package has two untranslated strings for all
languages. Those are the Default fields of debian/templates as they
are still marked as translatable in what you uploaded while the review
unmarked them. One is an account name and the other one is a path on
the filesystem.

Another suggestion is using the comment we did put at the beginning of
the templates file (reattached to this mail):

# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english
# team
#
# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask
# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice.
#
# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such
# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers.

It is very useful to spot packages that already had a review,
particularly in the future (reviews are a slow process and we might
still be reviewing package descriptions in 10 years...).

This is a reason for which I tend to discourage uploads related to the
Smith reviews before the full review cycle is completed. By
experience, it is likely to add confusion, particularly in cases (that
happen) where translators spot remaining glitches in the reviewed
templates.

This bug should be dealt with by upstream.

Note that you can enhance the chance for this by reporting the issue
upstream with M-x report-emacs-bug instead of hoping that someone
forwards your report.

Previous versions of Emacs would handle the left and middle mouse
button differently in an occur (or grep) buffer.
The left mouse button would place the cursor/focus into the occur
buffer, while the middle mouse button would jump to the point
 of occurrence.

Latest Emacs has changed that and will also jump to the point of
occurrence on left mouse button. The effect is that it is impossible
to place the focus in the Occur buffer (for scrolling it) with the
mouse. One has to use C-x o.

Please read the section ** Mouse changes: in the NEWS file why this
was done and what you can do.

In the working context of checking many occurrences, not all of which
need looking up, this is very tedious.
It would be nice to bring the previous behaviour back.

Setting mouse-1-click-follows-link to nil should give you the same
behavior as in Emacs 21.

This bug should be dealt with by upstream.

When debugging with gdb under Emacs in gud-mode, the latest Emacs
has the annoying habit of switching buffers away from the *gud...*
 buffer.

This happens mainly when the execution flow reaches a breakpoint,
and when no other screen or window shows the code listing of that
 breakpoint.

Previous Emacses would then split the screen, and show the location
of the breakpoint in the other half, while input focus remains in
 the gud buffer.

Current versions still do this, at least for me.

The latest Emacs has changed that, it will replace the gud buffer
with the buffer showing the code.

I cannot reproduce that. Could you please give a precise recipe
starting with emacs22 -Q?

Bug#520503: ttf-beteckna: Created new characters (euro, umlaut u), clean up of existing characters

2009-03-22 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello Alexander

In ttf-beteckna the German umlaut ü (u with 2 dots - U+00DC, U+00FC) was
missing. I created the characters for each set (bold, italic, etc). And
while I was on it, I also created the circumflex, acute and grave
versions of that letter.

The bold (and some italic) versions of c, the sharp sz (ß, U+00DF), beta
(U+03b2), right curly bracket (U+007D), inverted exclamation mark
(U+00A1) and $ were screwed up a little bit. Obsolete points removed.

Created the EUR sign (U+20AC) for each set. ttf-beteckna looks very
similar to Futura. Its euro sign can be found on wikipedia websites:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurozeichen (German version). However I do
not know about copyright issues and hence did not redesign the displayed
euro sign. I thought, I design one which fits into the overall layout
instead.

I also replaced some umlauts and letters with acute, grave, etc. with
references. E.g. the umlaut ü is generated by the reference to u and
dieresis. Some existing characters were simply copied and not referred.

Fixed the vertical line (U+007C) and introduced the borken pipe (U+00A6)
in each set.

The generated ttfs (generated by fontforge) are attached to this bug
report. Please let me know, if the file format is suitable for you.

That's very nice of you. Since I am also maintaining the webpage and upstream
releases. Would you mind sending me your original sfd files?

Maybe you've seen I only edit one sfd, and generate the others?

Yours,
Guerkan

Thanks,
Alex

 Hi,

Use the large-memory option to fix this.

 William

Hi William,

Thanks for your quick response, but I just checked and the large-memory
option is set as first option in the /etc/lilo.conf file. So it looks
like this is not the solution.

After running lilo again, everything works, so I assume the problem has
to do with a change that is initiated by installing a new kernel version.

../09.09-tree_insert

I got following error message:
   ** (gtkdialog:3209): WARNING **: create_tree(): A TreeView with no label.
   **
   ** ERROR:(automaton.c:1754):connect_tree_signals: assertion failed:

   ./09.09-tree_insert: line 31: 3209 Аварийный остановgtkdialog
--program=MAIN_DIALOG

Script doesn't work.
Now I add string 'labelcolumn/label' inside of tree tag. And launch the
script again,
and see following:
Script now works, but improperly - when I enter some text, for example 'new
item',
in text entry field, and then press 'add' button, new item added to tree,
but without any text. In console I see the following warning:
(gtkdialog:3217): Gtk-WARNING **: could not load image: Icon 'new item' not
present in theme

I supposed to see that when I press the button, text item will be added to tree.

Brgds,
Eugene.

Bug#520708: not installable - depends on libpoppler3 and libpoppler-glib3 which are unavailable

2009-03-22 Thread Rafal Czlonka
Package: inkscape
Version: 0.46-5
Severity: normal

Hi,

Inkscape depends on libpoppler3 and libpoppler-glib3 which are
unavailable. I believe that libpoppler4 and libpoppler-glib4 are their
newer replacements. Please rebuild inkscape to use the newer ones.

Kind regards,
Raf

Bug#520709: awesome: Client windows does not regain focus if it is the last client in tag

2009-03-22 Thread maus . david
Package: awesome
Version: 3.2-1
Severity: normal

Description:

After upgrade to awesome-3.2-1 I noticed that client windows -- terminals and
terminal applications as far as I can tell -- stay unfocussed even if they are
the last client on a particular tag. This only happens when tag has one of the
following layouts:

 * awful.layout.suit.tile.left
 * awful.layout.suit.magnifier
 * awful.layout.suit.tile.top

-- or if I start a floating application (mplayer for instance) and exit this
   floating app.

By stay unfocussed I mean that I can work inside such an terminal fine but
everything that indicates an unfocussed terminal client window (faded color,
cursor is not a block but a rectangle) is present. I checked if it could be
something inside my rc.lua by renaming it und let awesome use shipped rc.lua
but without success. I.e.: this annoying behavior occurs with the shipped
rc.lua, too.

Steps to reproduce:

   - choose layout awful.layout.suit.tile.left
   - open first terminal
   - open second terminal
   - close second terminal
= the first terminal is the only client on this tag but does not gain focus

I played arround a little bit and it seems that every terminal with an uneven
'number' shows this behaviour.

   - choose layout awful.layout.suit.tile.left
   - open four terminals
   - close term 4 - terminal 3 gets _active_ but stays unfocussed
   - close term 3 - terminal 2 gets active and gets focus
   - close term 2 - terminal 1 gets _active_ but stays unfocussed

In addition I also noticed that sometimes a client window that is the only one
on a particular tag does not gain focus if I switch to this tag.

I've managed to get it working as follows:

 1. Copy /sbin/dmsetup to sbin in the initramfs.

don't get why it wasn't there in the first place.
which version of the lvm2 package are you using
dpkg -l lvm2

 2. Add lvm=vg0 to the kernel commandline

no we won't add additinal cmdline arg,
the scenario you described works, you may have
to pass relevant rootdelay=X param

or if you are using lilo use it's append arg
with correct root arg there.

Bug#520671: Fwd: Bug#520671: openswan: Unable to specify a specific MTU on a vpn tunnel

2009-03-22 Thread Rene Mayrhofer
Hi Openswan and strongSwan teams,

I recently received a wishlist item in the Debian BTS and fully agree that it
would make sense to support setting the MTU on a per-tunnel basis. What do you
think?

best regards,
Rene
---BeginMessage---
Package: openswan
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

It sould really be a nice feature to be able to specify lock the mtu
for a specific tunnel when having issues at some ISPs.

For the time being I had to override the mtu in /usr/lib/ipsec/_updown

 parms3=$parms3 mtu lock 1412

Thanks

Laurent

Bug#520713: init script start hangs

2009-03-22 Thread Peter Palfrader
Package: schroot
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: critical

On goetz (our alpha buildd) the init script's start action hangs, causing the
system to not boot up cleanly.

Since the init script is run in rcS/75, before there is an sshd or
anything else useful this breaks the system completely, requiring remote
hands from a local person if no OOB access is available.

Why am I the only one having this problem?

I don't know. I can't reproduce it so it is hard to get a handle on.

Can you run apt-get update with -o Debug::Acquire::http=true and let's
try to see what is the difference between the requests sent with the
different LANG settings.

Bug#520715: hpijs-ppds - Photosmart D7260 doesn't accept papersizes DIN A5 and DIN A6

2009-03-22 Thread Holger Wagemann
Package: hpijs-ppds
Version: 3.9.2-3

Dear Maintainers,

I have an up-to-date Sid System and problems with my HP Photosmart D7260,
which I had not with an older version of hpijs and other hplip stuff in
version 2.8.6.

I configure a printer Queue with hplip and give it a fine tuning with cups
webinterface, A6 printing, Photo Paper, Full Bleed etc.

When I try to print a DIN A6 testpage from cups webinterface, then the printer
starts the job but interrupts it suddenly with a message on the touch screen
of the printer, that there is the wrong paper type or wrong paper format in
the printer tray, but thats not true, its DIN A6, original HP Photopaper and
the printing side is at the bottom.

The same behaviour with DIN A5 paper.

Only DIN A4 paper my printer accept.

With older version of hplip and hpijs stuff, there is no conflict.

Could this perhaps have to do with another package too? Here I think, its a
little bit difficult to find out, if it has to do with an issue in cups,
foomatic or hplip and its stuff?

cups stuff: 1.3.9-15
foomatic-filters: 4.0-20090311-1

Please tell me, if you need further information.

With best regards,
  Holger

That line works as expected when your awk is `gawk`, but produces no output
with `mawk`. This leaves the system unbootable (in my case) because none of
the kernel drivers are copied to the ramfs image. Easy workaround is to
 replace it with this:

 grep '^insmod' | sed -r '/insmod\s+//'

well i'm sorry but i can't reproduce your trouble:

Bug#520719: pcre3: Stack Overflow with repeating Look-Aheads

2009-03-22 Thread Benny Baumann
Package: pcre3
Severity: important

When running a regular expression where a look-ahead is used to
tell two possible paths apart and this choice is done in a
repeating group you will get a stack overflow if the string
you are matching is long enough.

More information can be found at:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcre3/+bug/334107

Installed debug symbols show the call producing the load on
the stack to be at pcre_exec.c:775. Also pcre_exec.c:1311 is
found in the stackdump once in a while (about every 10th stack item).

 Hello,

 thank you for packaging SDL.

Attached to this mail is a simple test program. When run on amd64 it will
 moo,
but on armel it will not. Also, the audio_mix callback is not called on
 armel.

I unfortunately do not know enough SDL to debug this issue further, but this
 is
 causing openmoocow (http://www.bitwiz.org.uk/wizblog/openmoocow.html) not to
moo on the FreeRunner, and this, you will agree, makes the phone basically
 useless :)

Which libsdl1.2* package do you have installed? Also which SDL audio
driver(s) are you using? You may want to force some of them with
SDL_AUDIODRIVER= to see which ones are working. Depending of the
libsdl1.2 package you have installed, possible values are esd, oss,
alsa, pulse, nas, arts, disk, dummy.

Hello

This is also in lenny perl 5.10.0-19
A somewhat related bug about NULLs is #356700
I can not see that the call syslog($level, %s, $msg); in
/usr/share/perl5/Mail/SpamAssassin/Logger/Syslog.pm is the problem here.
This also messes up logcheck for spamassassin that will not match correctly
with added EOL whitespace in syslog.

This is the second mail, the first have not yet been processed but it was
received yesterday by the Debian server. I'l retry from a different server.

This make the local /var/log/syslog work as expected by commenting out the
command that add the newline in the sprintf mask, later converted to space
after the message.
It will still add another newline when sending to a remote host. I will try to
find that one also. Another way to fix this would be to filter the EOL
whitespace at some later stage.
Could also be a ksyslogd bug that it should strip EOL whitespace. But I think
the system should not alter log messages too much if not really needed.

Bug#293163: dpkg -S to handle -- argument

Nowadays, dpkg-query and dpkg use the same option parser.
 'dpkg-query -S -pic' no more work, but 'dpkg-query -S -- -pic' does.

However 'dpkg -S -- -pic' does not work because dpkg actually call
 'dpkg-query -S -pic'.

The attach patch make dpkg to add a -- delimiter after the options,
 to avoid this issue.

I was worried that this could have been on purpose in some cases for
example to also pass supplementary options. But my reading of the code
and the usage of dpkg-deb/dpkg-query suggest that this is not the case.

So I'll apply your patch shortly (and your other one for #386197). In the
future, please create patches with git format-patch so that you take care
of writing the git log entry and we can apply it with git am.

That's because you chose not to add the SO version number to the name
of the -dev package, forcing everybody to migrate to the new API.
 That is absurd.

This is common practice for libraries that are not made for parallel
installability (gtk+ 1.2 and 2.0 for example) and was done for many
other packages in the past too (example: dbus), especially when the API
didn't change that much.
It doesn't make much sense to keep an old, unmaintained library around
for a long time IMHO. Also porting to this new API will give you a lot
of bugfixes and support for the new musepack streamversion 8, which is
the musepack file format that is created by the new encoders. Your
application won't be able to handle those files otherwise.

Bug#520724: snmpd: fails to set the group (gid), this will be a security problem in some configurations

2009-03-22 Thread Russell Coker
Package: snmpd

Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

The following output of ps shows that the group is root:

ps -eo pid,user,euser,suser,fuser,group,egroup,sgroup,fgroup,comm|head -1 ; ps

snmpd

This means that it can write to /dev/mapper/control, /dev/kmsg, and
/dev/xen/evtchn, as well as probably some files and directories that are
created by the sysadmin. If for example the /root directory had more 0770
then this would permit the snmpd to take over the root account.

While it would require that the snmpd be compromised to take advantage of this,
I believe that it's a security flaw to run code with GID 0 when there is no
need for it.

In the schroot code, we don't use futexes directly. The code is

fcntl file locks and signals, which have short timeouts.

It could be waiting on a child process such as a setup script to
complete. Knowing exactly what's stuck would help greatly.

where it stops?

with just --verbose it hangs and there's no output.

With --debug=notice also it aborts:

Bug#518893: Lost gfortran and f95 support regression

2009-03-22 Thread Junichi Uekawa
Hi,

You mentioned in a private email that you mis-filed the version, that
this bug is already fixed in 0.16 and you found it against 0.15. Can
you verify?

At Mon, 9 Mar 2009 11:52:39 +0900,
Andrew Buckeridge wrote:

 Package: binfmtc

It had Fortran 95 support for a while, but now it has gone.

The problem with the magic c BINFMTF: is that 'c' is not in the
 Old Fortran character set
 +-0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQR/STUVWXYZ='.)$*,( ,
but neither is ':' or the compiler options. Porting back to the
Old Fortran character set would be unlikely anyway.

The interpreter looks for g77 which is no longer available.
You may as well get rid of c BINFMTF: and support for g77.

In Old Fortran you could use '*' or 'C' in first column for a comment.

In Fortran 95 comments start with '!'.

In my earlier patch I recommended the magic ! BINFMTF95: and the
 interpreter used gfortran.

You could use the shorter ! BINFMTF: if it is not being reserved for
 g95 -std=F use.

Bug#520735: mutt: Threading does not work with certain message IDs

2009-03-22 Thread Jö Fahlke
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.18-6
Severity: normal

I recently received mails with message IDs of the form
000301c9aacc$fbf88bb0$f3e9a3...@censored@web.de (where the account name of
the guy in question has been replaced with censored by me). The message was
generated with Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0.

With these messages threaded display does not work because of the second @.
The replies to such messages are attached to the replied-to messages father
instead, or are put into their own thread if the replied-to message has no
father. Thread editing works only until the next time the Mailbox is
reopened.

It's only the display part that does not work, if I reply to such a message
with mutt the message ID of the replied-to message will appear in the
In-Reply-To: and References: fields of the reply.

While such message ID are of course not standard-compliant it would be nice it
mutt could support them. I don't know whether Outlook or Web.de is the
culprit, but either way a substantial amount of sent mails is affected.
(Web.de is a big german freemail provider)

If you believe it helps I can create a sample mbox demonstrating the problem.

Thanks,
Jö.

Bug#386197: dpkg: strtol checks don't fail when given a null string

2009-03-22 Thread Raphael Hertzog
On Fri, 20 Mar 2009, Bill Allombert wrote:
This is easy to fix by checking (s==end), or by setting errno=0 before
calling strto* functions, and checking (errno!=0) afterwards (see the
recently-updated manpage example). Given enough time, I will
eventually provide a patch for this, but I don't know that I'll get to
  it anytime soon..

The attached patch should fix that and is conformant with man strtoul:

In particular, if *nptr is not '\0' but **endptr is '\0' on return, the
entire string is valid.

Your patch doesn't compile:
../../src/main.c: In function ‘setinteger’:
../../src/main.c:296: error: invalid type argument of ‘unary *’ (have ‘int’)
make[3]: *** [main.o] Erreur 1

You added an unwanted * in the check. I'll commit it soon after tests.

Cheers,

Bug#520736: squid pidfile problem

2009-03-22 Thread Ruud Baart
Package: squid
Version: 2.7.STABLE3-4.1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

If in squid.conf the location of the pid-file is non standard, squid will not
restart and the
logrotate will not work correctly.

I propose to move some parameters form the start-stop script to
/etc/default/squid.

1. Add to /etc/default/squid:
...
NAME=squid

SQUID_CONF=/etc/squid/squid.conf
SQUID_ARGS=-D -YC -f ${SQUID_CONF}

PIDFILE=$(awk '\
   BEGIN { FS= ; pidfile=sprintf(/var/run/%s.pid, NAME) }
   $0 ~ /^pid_filename/ { pidfile=sprintf(%s, $2) }
   END { print pidfile} ' $SQUID_CONF)

SQUID_UID=$(awk '\
   BEGIN { FS= ; squid_uid=proxy }
   $0 ~ /^cache_effective_user/ { squid_uid=sprintf(%s, $2) }
   END { print squid_uid} ' $SQUID_CONF)

SQUID_GID=$(awk '\
   BEGIN { FS= ; squid_gid=proxy }
   $0 ~ /^cache_effective_group/ { squid_gid=sprintf(%s, $2) }
   END { print squid_gid} ' $SQUID_CONF)

2. Change /etc/init.d/squid to

DAEMON=/usr/sbin/squid
LIB=/usr/lib/squid

[ ! -f /etc/default/squid ] || . /etc/default/squid

. /lib/lsb/init-functions

Bug#427947: tomcat5.5 and tomcat6 behaviour

2009-03-22 Thread David Pashley
Not sure if this is still the same, but since moving to jsvc, stdin and
stdout have been redirected to syslog, so the logging shouldn't be going
catalina.out and catalina.err, so shouldn't get anywhere as large and
shouldn't need rotating. I think this isn't really relevant to tomcat5.5
or tomcat6, but should be tested, just to make sure.

ntop init script parses ifconfig for valid interface names. However,
ntop allows none as an interface name, signalling that no interfaces
should be used for direct monitoring. Patch below adds a check for
 none as the interface.

Bug#520739: cups: printing with brother hl-2030 does not work

2009-03-22 Thread henry atting
Package: cups
Version: 1.3.8-1lenny4.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

As of late I cannot print with brother HL-2030 anymore. I assume an
upgrade of cups must be the reason for I did not change any setting.
The print job stay for some time in the print queue, then disappear
and are regarded as completed.
The printer is idle, accepting jobs.
From a debian/lenny which uses the same printer in the network,
printing is still no problem.
Reinstalling the appropriate drivers did not help either.

Bug#495095: Cause of this bug

2009-03-22 Thread Sam Morris
I finally worked out what was causing Xchat to quit when Ctrl+X was
pressed. It was caused by the bug at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162726. Basically, if you
have both QWERTY and DVORAK keyboard layouts configured at the same
time, then keyboard shortcuts from both layouts are in effect. I guess
that in the DVORAK layout, pressing the X key on a QWERTY keyboard gets
you a Q and hence Xchat quits.

I've used this feature as recently as yesterday. It worked fine, and
in fact I was very happy with it - you used to get GDB errors on
startup but now it will detect the first write even if memory was

Hi David,

I'm sorry for not responding sooner. The Serpentine upstream seems
inactive these days and I am considering orphaning the package since it
has been replaced in newer GNOME releases by Brasero.

Regardless, can you tell me if it is sufficient to drop the right .po

include a lot of translation-related stuff which I frankly don't
understand.

Bug#493951: libpkg-guide: recommendations are contrary to accepted best practices

2009-03-22 Thread Sandro Tosi
tags 493951 +help
thanks

On Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 07:32, Steve Langasek vor...@debian.org wrote:
 Package: libpkg-guide
 Version: 0.0.20070413
 Severity: serious

The libpkg-guide that has been packaged and is now in the archive gives
recommendations regarding -dev package naming which are not at all
representative of a consensus in Debian.  We already have problems with
library maintainers inserting sonames into their -dev package names based on
the unclear/misguided advice of this document; shipping it in a stable
release would be seen by many as an endorsement by the Debian project, and
no such endorsement exists.  There *particularly* isn't such an endorsement
from the Debian release team, for whom gratuitous -dev package name changes
make library transitions more difficult by orders of magnitude.

This package should not be included in a stable release until the
recommendations have been revised to reflect best practices.

I waited long, then I finally decided to ask for help to fix this bug.

Sadly, I don't have the time to properly read all the documentation
and forge a patch to the current package (and Junichi is in the same
situation).

So I'm here to ask for your help in fixing it.

Thanks in advance,
