Bug#535247: gnome-panel: shutdown button exhibits erratic behaviour

2009-07-01 Thread Norbert Preining
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: normal

Pressing the shutdown button and selection Shutdown currently exhibits
a very erratic behaviour: Either it shuts down the computer, or it just
logs me out and goes back to the gdm welcome screen.

I am checking that now since weeks, and I couldn't find any pattern
in they way it behaves. The only idea (but without being able to
actually check that) was that if I su-ed a few times the shutdown
was only a logout.

All the best

Norbert

Bug#535248: padre: Please drop unnecessary build dependency on locales-all

Hi,

The package builds fine without locales-all, and as Ubuntu does not have
locales-all, it would be great if you could drop this unnecessary build
dependency.

Thnaks,

Bug#535249: linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64: fails to work when hda is rerouted to hde

2009-07-01 Thread Micronius
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64
Version: 2.6.26-15lenny2
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: renders package unusable

My desktop owns 1 IDE-controller on the motherboard and 2
PCI-RAID-IDE-controller
(without using the RAID-facility) on a PCI-card. My fstab contains the
following
lines:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc proc defaults0 0
LABEL=wg-rootpart   /   reiserfs defaults0   1

/dev/hdb/media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0/media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0

My /boot/grub/menu.lst contains the following lines:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.26-2-amd64
password ..
root(hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-amd64

initrd /initrd.img-2.6.26-2-amd64

When I use

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

this does not work for upgrading the kernel. The following messages appear:

Booting the kernel

Loading, please wait ...

mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed:
   no such file or directory

[the same concerning /sys and /proc]

Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init.
No init found.

.

Then the system halts and does not work further.

Yes, because at boot time, the machine isn't connected yet.

So why do you need to run named localy?

As far as I know ntpd will behave correctly when it can't reach a
  nameserver.

But in that case, why isn't there a script in /etc/network/if-up.d
to restart ntpd? In fact there was one in the past, but it has been
 removed probably because:

 ntp (1:4.2.4p0+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=low

This version of ntp will periodically rescan the network interfaces to
pick up new and deleted interfaces. This should supplant most or all
of the various workarounds in use such as restarting the daemon in
   /etc/network/if-up.d/ or /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/.

So, ntpd doesn't behave as documented.

As far as I know, it does behave as documented. The rescanning of
the interface is to pick up new IP addresses of the interfaces.
It will not try to resolve the names of the ntp servers/peers
again.

Could you upgrade to 1.6.8 and see if that is better. Checksum database
handling was changed in 1.6.5.

I think it is related to checksumming, so you could turn that off if it
is a recurrent and disruptive problem.

apt-cacher hangs on aptitude update. And it leaves lots of
processes lying about, how long it takes to accumulate these I'm not
 sure.

 Trying to restart I get:

 janus:~# /etc/init.d/apt-cacher restart Restarting Apt-Cacher:
apt-cacherUnable to bind socket ( port 3142), trying again in 5
seconds. Unable to bind socket ( port 3142), trying again in 5
seconds. Unable to bind socket ( port 3142), /usr/sbin/apt-cacher not
 started. .

It seems to take a killall -9 apt-cacher to get rid of all the
processes. After restarting apt-cacher it works again.

At this point you need to run

 /usr/share/apt-cacher/apt-cacher-cleanup.pl -r

after killing the processes but before restarting to clean locks and
mutexes from the checksum database.

Mark

It is no longer possible for wine applications to use nvidia-glx-ia32,
since nvidia-glx-ia32 still has its files under /emul.

Also there is no ia32-nvidia-glx package created by ia32-apt-get.
Please make nvidia-glx-ia32 work again, thanks!

Hi,

Did you had some news from upstream about that bug report?

Anyway, here is the debdiff with the integrated patch.

Fabrice

*** /tmp/tmpMpDqy8
In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * debian/patch/gcc_4.4.patch: fix a FTBFS because of missing
#include cstdio header in several sources (LP: #?)
  * debian/rules: added include of /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/simple-patchsys.mk

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Bug#535154: [pkg-wine-party] Bug#535154: wine: package broken after /emul - /usr/lib32 transition

 Török Edwin skrev:

I reported a bug for libc6-i386 that it should have a Breaks: wine, because
 it
 broke wine during the transition.

There might not be much reason for them to, as only Wine versions in
experimental were affected. Nothing happened to those in lenny and sid
(they use /usr/lib, not /usr/lib32). Also, even if they did care about
experimental, there probably aren't any broken Wine package versions to
add a Breaks line about anyway (see below), so they probably couldn't do
 this if they wanted to.

However wine should be updated to move to /usr/lib32, because now dpkg does
think that wine has its files in /usr/lib32 (but it didn't move the actual
 files):

If I understand your report correctly, the Wine package you've installed
already uses /usr/lib32. If so, the package is *not* broken.

(Perhaps there's a different version now in the archive which might be
broken, I'm not sure. But yours isn't.)

It is a well-known dpkg problem that it will never automatically convert
symlinks to directories on upgrade (but blindly follow them). The
involved packages must therefore use Breaks and Pre-Depends to ensure
that the directories are fully emptied (i.e., all relevant packages
uninstalled) before the libc upgrade. Then libc's maintainer scripts can
delete the old symlink, and then the updated packages can be installed,
and the files be placed in the new location.

Using Breaks might be tricky in this case, though, since the packages
*already* used the right paths, and did not need to be changed. Which
means there's no package version to use Breaks against.

You have a choice of reinstalling the Wine debs (apt-get install
--reinstall on the affected debs might suffice), or manually moving the
files around to match the dpkg -L output.

Reinstalling wine and all of its libs makes wine able to start, thanks!

I'm not sure it's worth it to add maintainer scripts to either libc or
wine that tries to automate any workarounds, given that the problem is
only in experimental, and never happened in sid. Hopefully people that
use experimental know how to fix their systems when it breaks - at least
know how to reinstall a package.

I will leave the bug open so that other people with similar issues know
what's going on, but there's no need to fix the package. Thus,
 downgrading to non-RC.

There is something wrong with dependencies now, since ia32-libs doesn't
actually install any of the
32 bit packages it used to, it merely pulls in ia32-apt-get.
It would be nice if there was a package that pulls in everything
ia32-libs used to have, but I can't seem to find one.

So starting 'wine notepad' fails because it can't find libSM.so.6 for
example.

I installed these to get a somewhat usable wine, I don't know if I
missed any libraries:
ia32-libsm6 ia32-libxext6 ia32-libfreetype6

I also noticed that ia32-apt-get created a package called ia32-wine.
Should that one be used now?
(it seems to pull in a lot of ia32- libs as dependencies, which I assume
is good)

However nvidia-glx-ia32 is broken, and there is no ia32-nvidia-glx, so I
manually copied files from /emul to /usr/lib32
(see ,#534873), and now games are working again with wine!

Best regards,
--Edwin

Bug#535177: svn-buildpackage: --svn-tag-copy tags HEAD rather than BASE

I can't see an option --svn-tag-copy and assume you mean --svn-tag-only.
If so, your bug report is a duplication of #478697. Can you confirm

Bug#535253: php5-ldap: ldap module not loading using fcgi (at least with lighttpd)

2009-07-01 Thread Deny Dias
Package: php5-ldap
Version: 5.2.6.dfsg.1-1+lenny3
Severity: important

When using php through lighttpd fast cgi interface (I don't know about apache
as I don't use it), php's ldap.so module is not loaded. To verify, just create
a php file in your webserver root directory with:

?php phpinfo(); ?

When you load this script in your web browser and search by 'ldap', there is no
mention. Instead, if you issue:

$ php -c /etc/php5/cgi/php.ini -i|grep ldap

the module is correctly loaded, as informed by grep output.

My lighttpd fcgi configuration is:
/etc/lighttpd/conf-enabled/10-fastcgi.conf

## FastCGI programs have the same functionality as CGI programs,

As stated before, I don't have any other web server software instaled on my

 Dear David et al.,

Is it possible for you to package viewvc 1.1.1? I realise that this
represents a major release and may require some reworking of the
Debian-specific files, but I think the benefits of the new version
 outweigh the pain!

If I have time, I will try to do the work for you by creating an
appropriate patch. You can check on my progress (if any!) by
 running:

   svn co http://svn.zap.org.au/svn/debian-packages/debian-updates/viewvc/

I will also send a follow-up e-mail once such a patch is ready.

Hello, John. I'm recovering from a long stage into Real Life. :-)

Because my router doesn't handle IPv6 and makes programs freeze.
I also had to install it on another machine, but I don't remember

  removed probably because:

This version of ntp will periodically rescan the network interfaces to
pick up new and deleted interfaces. This should supplant most or all

/etc/network/if-up.d/ or /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/.

So, ntpd doesn't behave as documented.

As far as I know, it does behave as documented. The rescanning of
the interface is to pick up new IP addresses of the interfaces.
It will not try to resolve the names of the ntp servers/peers
 again.

Then the script in /etc/network/if-up.d should be re-added.

Hi,

In the system reported below, the Format - Cells... dialog is broken
 (see attachment).

reported below? You are kidding? YOu are not even telling which graphics
card and/or driver you use...

and, uhm, broken dialogs? wtf? the dialogs work, it just doesn't get
painted correctly... your title suggests that the dialogs were completely
broken

That said, it works here in a sid chroot. But of course I ran lennys X and
kernel and don't have any non-fancy drivers (nvdiia, fglrx). Will also
try on a clean sid boot tonight but I really believe this is not a OOo issue
but a graphics driver one. Do you use nvidia or fglrx by any chance? What
happens when you don't use them?

PyWBEM is a Python library that implements a Web Based Enterprise

Bug#528365: vlc: Suashed and greyscale picture with x11 video output

2009-07-01 Thread Pascal Obry

Christophe,

 VLC version ?

I'm currently using 0.9.9a (testing). I had the same problem with the
previous version which was 0.8.6 IIRC. I won't swear but I think this
happened just after a xorg update.

Note also that I have no problem with all other video players (totem,
mplayer).

Also for all reporters, could you try the version in experimental ?

I had already tested (was not working) but not sure it was the same RC.

Just tried again with the 1.0.0~rc2-1 and I have the same problem.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks for the reply.

Pascal.

Bug#535177: svn-buildpackage: --svn-tag-only tags HEAD rather than BASE

2009-07-01 Thread Jakub Wilk

retitle 535177 svn-buildpackage: --svn-tag-only tags HEAD rather than BASE
thanks

* Jan Hauke Rahm i...@jhr-online.de, 2009-07-01, 09:50:

--svn-tag-copy tags HEAD revision of the repository. This is wrong,
as it introduces a race condition between tagger and other
commiters. Thus, you can never be sure what exactly would be tagged.

I can't see an option --svn-tag-copy and assume you mean --svn-tag-only.

Oops, that's right, I meant --svn-tag-only.

If so, your bug report is a duplication of #478697. Can you confirm
that?

Yes.

However, I don't understand why this bug was closed.
Eddy Petrisor explicitly stated that the bug is important, while
Neil Williams closed the bug stating that Eddy is absolutely right.

Besides, Eddy is wrong: triggering this bug does not imply having a
social problem. In my case, I was just trying to tag an old version.

Autoload works with 2.6.29.

Actually, /usr/sbin/glusterfs is a symlink to glusterfsd:

ls /usr/sbin/glusterfs -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2009-07-01 10:46 /usr/sbin/glusterfs - glusterfsd

So glusterfs-server is mandatory to use glusterfs-client.

Bug#535252: checkbashisms doesn't detect source

It *does*, but not if the filename being sourced is a single character.

$ cat script.sh
#!/bin/sh

$ checkbashisms script.sh
possible bashism in script.sh line 3 (should be '.', not 'source'):

I can see why, and a possible solution; I just need to check that it doesn't
introduce any further issues.

Bug#529695: Collaborative maintenance.

2009-07-01 Thread Jesus Climent
Hi

I'd be happy to put the package somewhere where we can have more than
only me checking in the code and making releases.

There are plenty of ideas and patches that I queued on my inbox. I
will export them and put them in the repository so that they can be
integrated.

Right now the code is under code.google.com and requires a (free as in
beer) google account to access it.

Cheers.

Bug#535033: route to remote using net_gateway fails for p2p links

2009-07-01 Thread Teodor
On Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 9:41 AM, martin f krafftmadd...@debian.org wrote:
 A line like

  route remote_host 255.255.255.255 net_gateway

is common to ensure that OpenVPN can continue talking to the OpenVPN
server, even if all routes are redirected. Unfortunately, this does
not seem to work on systems with a p2p uplink, because they do not
have (need) a gateway address in the default route:

 # ip r
 [...]
 default dev ppp0  scope link

I have a similar situation on my PPPoE link and the workarround was to
add this line:
| route OVPN_IP_addr 255.255.255.255 10.0.0.1
| #route 217.156.14.32 255.255.255.255 [current GW]

This is not a problem for me because I always have the same gateway to
the ISP. Unfortunately this is a manual workarround that does not
scale, so it would be nice if openvpn could add by default a route to
the OVPN server IP address which can be obtained like this:
| $ ip ro get OVPN_IP_addr
| OVPN_IP_addr dev ppp0 src LOCAL_IP_addr

This works with a default route via a gateway or via a PPP device.

Thanks

As shown below, it seems that /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99video freezes.

I've removed the vbetool package. This solves the freeze problem,
but the screen still remains off after resuming (I can still work
remotely via SSH).

The problem occurs with both suspend to RAM and suspend to disk
(pm-suspend and pm-hibernate).

I've tested the following script found on

  http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Dell_Latitude_E6x00#Suspend_.28RAM.29

but again, the screen remains off after resuming.

#!/bin/sh

# discover video card's ID

# securely create a temporary file

# dump current data from the video card to the

Pressing the shutdown button and selection Shutdown currently exhibits
a very erratic behaviour: Either it shuts down the computer, or it just
logs me out and goes back to the gdm welcome screen.

I am checking that now since weeks, and I couldn't find any pattern
in they way it behaves. The only idea (but without being able to
actually check that) was that if I su-ed a few times the shutdown
 was only a logout.

First of all, the logout code is now in gnome-session again. Since gdm
was not changed recently it’s more probably a bug in the code that talks
with it in g-session.

I think I have already seen this bug, but not as frequently; you may be
right about gksu, as I don’t use it much.

If you can reproduce it easily, you might have some luck running
gnome-session in debug mode. I’m interested to know what it outputs when
you logout.

Thanks,

ok. but that's not the only case where it doesn't detect it. the
problem that caused me to make this small test case and file the bug
was like this:

bash jade master ORDB-DebianModules-Generator $ cat test
#!/bin/sh

if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
source ~/.bashrc
fi
bash jade master ORDB-DebianModules-Generator $ checkbashisms test
bash jade master ORDB-DebianModules-Generator $ bash test
bash jade master ORDB-DebianModules-Generator $ dash test
test: 5: source: not found
bash jade master ORDB-DebianModules-Generator $

yes, this seems silly since of course sourcing .bashrc in a /bin/sh
script isn't gonna work, but my script is really #!/bin/bash and I'm
using source so that if I ever try to change the shebang from bash to sh,
I will run checkbashisms, it will draw my attention to this line, and
I will remember that I can't change it. at least that was my intention..

I just tried, and no, the wl module is not autoloaded even after
rerunning depmod -a explicitly and rebooting (which also runs depmod -a
 IIRC).

And why is it a bug in the kernel if an external module fails to load?

Please show the following information:

- modinfo wl
- /sys/bus/pci/devices/$PCIID/modalias

 Autoload works with 2.6.29.

So the wl module was not updated for 2.6.30? The kernel does not
consider kernel level interfaces as stable.

Bug#535268: pbuilder: option to replace /dev/random with /dev/urandom inside build environment

2009-07-01 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.188
Severity: wishlist

Hi Junichi,

what about an option to replace /dev/random with /dev/urandom inside the
chroot?
Installation of ia32-apt-get (current sid) during package build every time
drains /dev/random and blocks until enough new random bits can be collected.
For creating some temporary gpg keys/keyrings/whatever, the use of
/dev/urandom should be sufficient.
Are there any uses of pbuilder that might need a good /dev/random device?

What about a new setting for pbuilder to replace /dev/random by a
symlink to /dev/urandom
a) never (as it is now, probably should be the default)
b) during build
c) always (also during login/execute --save-after, create/update, ...)
== DEVURANDOMASDEVRANDOM=never|build|always

Once a setting of 'always' was used in a session that was saved
(--save-after, update, create) that change might be permanent and not
automatically undone by setting 'never' or 'build'.

Hi Peter,

it looks like ocaml-nox dropped one of the native-archs file, thus

| cat: /usr/lib/ocaml/*/native-archs: No such file or directory

See https://buildd.debian.org/~luk/status/package.php?p=skssuite=unstable

The changelog doesn't say anything about that, so I'm X-Debbugs-Cc'ing
the ocaml maintainers, so that they can clarify that.

ia32-libs used to have, but I can't seem to find one.

So starting 'wine notepad' fails because it can't find libSM.so.6 for

Someone already reported that in #534238, look there for more information.

I also noticed that ia32-apt-get created a package called ia32-wine.
Should that one be used now?

That's the ia32-libs-tools maintainer's recommendation, yes. I may have
to make some empty wine packages that depend on ia32-wine.

2009-07-01 Thread Gilles
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-1-amd64

Severity: normal

Hi.

The consequence of this problem seems similar to the report #532861.
My current kernel (2.6.26-1) behaves fine, while following an upgrade,
the newly installed is stuck just after printing Waiting for root [...].

The root file system was installed (using the Debian netinst from about
two years ago) on reiserfs on LVM on RAID1.

[To add to the annoyance, the upgrade process updated some X library,
and, although X starts up, no other graphical program does, so my
machine is now mainly unusable even with this working kernel.]

Bug#535274: /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg should probably be moved to /etc

2009-07-01 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: ia32-apt-get
Version: 18
Severity: normal

Hi,

ia32-apt-get creates /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg with its keyrings
etc. The contents should probably be moved to /etc/ia32-apt-get/.
Running
  gpg --homedir /etc/ia32-apt-get ...
should make gpg search the keyrings in /etc/ia32-apt-get/ (without
.gnupg appended), no more changing $HOME needed to fool gpg.

Removal of the package also leaves the empty directories
/usr/share/ia32-apt-get/dists/transitional/ and
/usr/share/ia32-apt-get/dists/ behind (they are removed during purge).

postrm should probably try to rmdir these (and /usr/share/ia32-apt-get)
after it did some cleanup in there during the remove step.

Thinking again, if there are custom signatures created in
/usr/share/ia32-apt-get, shouldn't this be moved to /var?

This is wrong, as kdelibs5 obviously depends on a lot of things. I'm guessing
reportbug-ng gets these fields from a source about installed packages and
doesn't expect that the package is not installed. Maybe the Package information

This is on hppa, but it should fail the same way on all archs when tried
with a new(er) dpkg-dev.

Same reasoning, same solution as e.g. 535230 for mpi. Get rid of \ and
use proper folding with leading space.

Bug#535277: pbuilder: ia32-apt-get (amd64) introduces changes to /var/cache/apt/archives/

2009-07-01 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.188
Severity: normal

Hi Junichi,

ia32-apt-get introduces changes to the /var/cache/apt/archives/ layout
by introducing /var/cache/apt/$ARCH/archives/ for amd64 and i386.
I'm not sure how this will affect operation of pbuilder.
Nor have I tried to use ia32-apt-get and see how it actually goes.

On the other hand I'm happily using a single /var/cache/apt/archives/
shared between my main system (amd64) and several amd64 and i386 pbuilders
for sid, squeeze, lenny (via BINDMOUNTS=/var/cache/apt/archives) and
an i386 schroot environment.
The cache is just never cleaned :-)
So there might be no need for separate caches in ia32-apt-get at all.

Andreas

As a matter of interest why did you cancel the initial install of

Actually i purged it (along with ia32-libs and others) thinking that it would

Anyway i'd give version 19 as soon as it enter repos

Hi.

With dpkg-dev (= 1.15.3), backslashes are (rightfully) no longer
allowed for line wrapping, making your package FTBFS. Since the dpkg
developers didn't check what FTBFS might now be triggered, I'm doing
so…

2009-07-01 Thread Antonio Vigueras Rodriguez
Package: octave-io

Package does not seem to implement the previous dlmread.m function.

In fact, the package contents other functions, for instance

missing one.

Bug#535267: sks: FTBFS with latest ocaml-nox

2009-07-01 Thread Mehdi Dogguy
Cyril Brulebois wrote:
 Package: sks
 Version: 1.1.0-5
 Severity: serious
 Justification: FTBFS

 Hi Peter,

it looks like ocaml-nox dropped one of the native-archs file, thus
leading to the FTBFS or your package:
 | # Slightly outdated:
 | cy...@talisker:/tmp$ apt-file show ocaml-nox|grep native-archs
 | ocaml-nox: /usr/lib/ocaml/3.11.0/native-archs
 | ocaml-nox: /usr/lib/ocaml/native-archs
 |
[...]

The changelog doesn't say anything about that, so I'm X-Debbugs-Cc'ing
the ocaml maintainers, so that they can clarify that.

We are in the middle of a transition. One of the changes is the location
of the standards library which moves from _/usr/lib/ocaml/$(OCAML_ABI)/_
to _/usr/lib/ocaml/_.

Sks FTBFS because the currently used path is no longer correct
(/usr/lib/ocaml/*/native-archs). It should rely on ocamlvars.mk (which can
be found in dh-ocaml) or on `ocamlc -where`. The fix is trivial.

BTW, why do you `cat /usr/lib/ocaml/*/native-archs`? It seems totally
useless and appears to be the only thing that caused this FTBFS.

Cheers,

hand http://localhost/cgi-bin/info2www?(fileutils): works fine.

I tried other web server like lighttpd, boa and apache, but it's still
the same. Then I installed it on my laptop and it works without a
problem. The difference between the systems basically are that this
system is 64bit and the laptop 32bit.

Perhaps there is a needed library installed on the laptop, which isn't
on my PC, but I don't know what to look for. If thats the case it should
be recommended or suggested for info2www.

Bug#535272: Wrong Homepage-URL in package description

2009-07-01 Thread Vincent Danjean
Mark Menzel wrote:
 Package: commit-tool

I translate the package description for 'commit-tool' to German language.
The URL of Homepage:http://www.cyd.liu.se/users/~freku045/gct/ in the
 package description
does not work. I get error 404.

commit-tool is dead upstream. qct is a possible alternative.
It is possible that commit-tool will be removed before squeeze.

Vincent

Bug#535274: [Pkg-ia32-libs-maintainers] Bug#535274: /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg should probably be moved to /etc

2009-07-01 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Andreas Beckmann deb...@abeckmann.de writes:

 Package: ia32-apt-get
 Version: 18
 Severity: normal

 Hi,

ia32-apt-get creates /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg with its keyrings
etc. The contents should probably be moved to /etc/ia32-apt-get/.
 Running
   gpg --homedir /etc/ia32-apt-get ...
should make gpg search the keyrings in /etc/ia32-apt-get/ (without
.gnupg appended), no more changing $HOME needed to fool gpg.

That isn't a config file where admins can add/removes keys at will. I
don't see any reason the keyring should be changed at all after it was
created. I will consider changing from HOME=... gpg to gpg
--homedir though. Probably is cleaner that way.

I normaly have purge on per default. I guess I need to remove that and
do some more testing.

Thinking again, if there are custom signatures created in
 /usr/share/ia32-apt-get, shouldn't this be moved to /var?

They are created only during package installation/configuration, never
at runtime. As the FHS says:

| /var is specified here in order to make it possible to mount /usr
| read-only. Everything that once went into /usr that is written to
| during system operation (as opposed to installation and software
| maintenance) must be in /var.

This is only at install time so /usr/share/ia32-apt-get seems fine.

 Andreas

Unless you disagree I will close this bug when I change to --homedir
and add the rmdir calls you suggested. Is that OK?

MfG
Goswin

Bug#535148: heap overflows after upgrade to 5.2.10

2009-07-01 Thread David Sommerseth

I am experiencing the same issues on a Gentoo box as well.

To reproduce:
?php
@session_start();
?

a similar issue comes, but not as frequently if using:

?php
if (!(session_id()) )
session_start();
?

This causes a plain segfault in the logs:
[Wed Jul 01 11:24:48 2009] [notice] child pid 22838 exit signal
Segmentation fault (11)

I configured Apache to dump core dumps ... but the backtrace didn't give
too much:

(gdb) bt

/usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so

#1 0x in ?? ()

Hope this helps somewhat ... I have not found this bug reported any other
places at them moment.

kind regards,

Bug#523027: [oss-security] incorrect upstream fix for CVE-2009-0840 (mapserver)

On Mon, 22 Jun 2009, Nico Golde wrote:

I'm not sure if this should get a new CVE id but the versions in the CVE id
description should be adjusted and the upstream patch revised.

This looks like even though there was a source code modification, the
previous issue was not fixed at all. That is, any attack that would have
worked before the fix, will still work after the fix.

However, Fedora FEDORA-2009-3383 at least claims a fix for CVE-2009-0840,
so a new CVE is probably in order to signal to admins that they have
another issue to handle.

Use CVE-2009-2281 for the new issue. What versions are affected by
this?

Bug#535285: apt: should suggest apt-listchanges

2009-07-01 Thread Török Edwin
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.21
Severity: normal

apt should Suggest: or Recommend: apt-listchanges.
It is useful to show the NEWS file before installing packages.

For example it would have warned me that I now need to pin i386 packages after
the ia32 transition (though IMHO it should have pinned them automatically
if that is required not to replace amd64 packages with newer i386 packages).

Instead I found out that I need to do this by accidentally
browsing debian-devel.
