Bug#535247: gnome-panel: shutdown button exhibits erratic behaviour
Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.26.2-1 Severity: normal Pressing the shutdown button and selection Shutdown currently exhibits a very erratic behaviour: Either it shuts down the computer, or it just logs me out and goes back to the gdm welcome screen. I am checking that now since weeks, and I couldn't find any pattern in they way it behaves. The only idea (but without being able to actually check that) was that if I su-ed a few times the shutdown was only a logout. Yes, because at boot time, the machine isn't connected yet. So why do you need to run named localy? As far as I know ntpd will behave correctly when it can't reach a nameserver. But in that case, why isn't there a script in /etc/network/if-up.d to restart ntpd? In fact there was one in the past, but it has been removed probably because: ntp (1:4.2.4p0+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=low This version of ntp will periodically rescan the network interfaces to pick up new and deleted interfaces. As far as I know, it does behave as documented. The rescanning of the interface is to pick up new IP addresses of the interfaces. It will not try to resolve the names of the ntp servers/peers again. Bug#535154: [pkg-wine-party] Bug#535154: wine: package broken after /emul - /usr/lib32 transition
On 2009-06-30 18:37, Ove Kaaven wrote: severity 535154 important stop (For other Wine bugs related to the ia32 transition, see #534238, #533315, and #535097.) Török Edwin skrev: I reported a bug for libc6-i386 that it should have a Breaks: wine, because it broke wine during the transition. There might not be much reason for them to, as only Wine versions in experimental were affected. Nothing happened to those in lenny and sid (they use /usr/lib, not /usr/lib32). Also, even if they did care about experimental, there probably aren't any broken Wine package versions to add a Breaks line about anyway (see below), so they probably couldn't do this if they wanted to. However wine should be updated to move to /usr/lib32, because now dpkg does think that wine has its files in /usr/lib32 (but it didn't move the actual files): If I understand your report correctly, the Wine package you've installed already uses /usr/lib32. If so, the package is *not* broken. (Perhaps there's a different version now in the archive which might be broken, I'm not sure. But yours isn't.) It is a well-known dpkg problem that it will never automatically convert symlinks to directories on upgrade (but blindly follow them). The involved packages must therefore use Breaks and Pre-Depends to ensure that the directories are fully emptied (i.e., all relevant packages uninstalled) before the libc upgrade. Then libc's maintainer scripts can delete the old symlink, and then the updated packages can be installed, and the files be placed in the new location. Using Breaks might be tricky in this case, though, since the packages *already* used the right paths, and did not need to be changed. Which means there's no package version to use Breaks against. You have a choice of reinstalling the Wine debs (apt-get install --reinstall on the affected debs might suffice), or manually moving the files around to match the dpkg -L output. Reinstalling wine and all of its libs makes wine able to start, thanks! I'm not sure it's worth it to add maintainer scripts to either libc or wine that tries to automate any workarounds, given that the problem is only in experimental, and never happened in sid. Hopefully people that use experimental know how to fix their systems when it breaks - at least know how to reinstall a package. I will leave the bug open so that other people with similar issues know what's going on, but there's no need to fix the package. Thus, downgrading to non-RC. There is something wrong with dependencies now, since ia32-libs doesn't actually install any of the 32 bit packages it used to, it merely pulls in ia32-apt-get. It would be nice if there was a package that pulls in everything ia32-libs used to have, but I can't seem to find one. So starting 'wine notepad' fails because it can't find libSM.so.6 for example. I installed these to get a somewhat usable wine, I don't know if I missed any libraries: ia32-libsm6 ia32-libxext6 ia32-libfreetype6 I also noticed that ia32-apt-get created a package called ia32-wine. Should that one be used now? (it seems to pull in a lot of ia32- libs as dependencies, which I assume is good) However nvidia-glx-ia32 is broken, and there is no ia32-nvidia-glx, so I manually copied files from /emul to /usr/lib32 (see ,#534873), and now games are working again with wine! retitle 535177 svn-buildpackage: --svn-tag-only tags HEAD rather than BASE thanks * Jan Hauke Rahm i...@jhr-online.de, 2009-07-01, 09:50: --svn-tag-copy tags HEAD revision of the repository. This is wrong, as it introduces a race condition between tagger and other commiters. Thus, you can never be sure what exactly would be tagged. I can't see an option --svn-tag-copy and assume you mean --svn-tag-only. Oops, that's right, I meant --svn-tag-only. If so, your bug report is a duplication of #478697. Can you confirm that? Yes. However, I don't understand why this bug was closed. Eddy Petrisor explicitly stated that the bug is important, while Neil Williams closed the bug stating that Eddy is absolutely right. Besides, Eddy is wrong: triggering this bug does not imply having a social problem. In my case, I was just trying to tag an old version. -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#535247: gnome-panel: shutdown button exhibits erratic behaviour
reassign 535247 gnome-session 2.26.1-7 thanks Le mercredi 01 juillet 2009 à 07:45 +0200, Norbert Preining a écrit : Package: gnome-panel Version: 2.26.2-1 Severity: normal Pressing the shutdown button and selection Shutdown currently exhibits a very erratic behaviour: Either it shuts down the computer, or it just logs me out and goes back to the gdm welcome screen. I am checking that now since weeks, and I couldn't find any pattern in they way it behaves. The only idea (but without being able to actually check that) was that if I su-ed a few times the shutdown was only a logout. First of all, the logout code is now in gnome-session again. Since gdm was not changed recently it’s more probably a bug in the code that talks with it in g-session. I think I have already seen this bug, but not as frequently; you may be right about gksu, as I don’t use it much. If you can reproduce it easily, you might have some luck running gnome-session in debug mode. I’m interested to know what it outputs when you logout. Thanks, -- .''`. Bug#535274: /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg should probably be moved to /etc
Package: ia32-apt-get Version: 18 Severity: normal Hi, ia32-apt-get creates /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg with its keyrings etc. The contents should probably be moved to /etc/ia32-apt-get/. Running gpg --homedir /etc/ia32-apt-get ... should make gpg search the keyrings in /etc/ia32-apt-get/ (without .gnupg appended), no more changing $HOME needed to fool gpg. Removal of the package also leaves the empty directories /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/dists/transitional/ and /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/dists/ behind (they are removed during purge). postrm should probably try to rmdir these (and /usr/share/ia32-apt-get) after it did some cleanup in there during the remove step. Thinking again, if there are custom signatures created in /usr/share/ia32-apt-get, shouldn't this be moved to /var? Bug#535277: pbuilder: ia32-apt-get (amd64) introduces changes to /var/cache/apt/archives/
Package: pbuilder Version: 0.188 Severity: normal Hi Junichi, ia32-apt-get introduces changes to the /var/cache/apt/archives/ layout by introducing /var/cache/apt/$ARCH/archives/ for amd64 and i386. I'm not sure how this will affect operation of pbuilder. Nor have I tried to use ia32-apt-get and see how it actually goes. On the other hand I'm happily using a single /var/cache/apt/archives/ shared between my main system (amd64) and several amd64 and i386 pbuilders for sid, squeeze, lenny (via BINDMOUNTS=/var/cache/apt/archives) and an i386 schroot environment. The cache is just never cleaned :-) So there might be no need for separate caches in ia32-apt-get at all. We are in the middle of a transition. One of the changes is the location of the standards library which moves from _/usr/lib/ocaml/$(OCAML_ABI)/_ to _/usr/lib/ocaml/_. Sks FTBFS because the currently used path is no longer correct (/usr/lib/ocaml/*/native-archs). It should rely on ocamlvars.mk (which can be found in dh-ocaml) or on `ocamlc -where`. The fix is trivial. BTW, why do you `cat /usr/lib/ocaml/*/native-archs`? It seems totally useless and appears to be the only thing that caused this FTBFS. On the other hand http://localhost/cgi-bin/info2www?(fileutils): works fine. I tried other web server like lighttpd, boa and apache, but it's still the same. Then I installed it on my laptop and it works without a problem. The difference between the systems basically are that this system is 64bit and the laptop 32bit. Perhaps there is a needed library installed on the laptop, which isn't on my PC, but I don't know what to look for. If thats the case it should be recommended or suggested for info2www. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages info2www depends on: ii bozohttpd [httpd-cgi] 20090418-2 Bozotic HTTP server ii perl 5.10.0-23 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction info2www recommends no packages. info2www suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#535274: [Pkg-ia32-libs-maintainers] Bug#535274: /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg should probably be moved to /etc
Andreas Beckmann deb...@abeckmann.de writes: Package: ia32-apt-get Version: 18 Severity: normal Hi, ia32-apt-get creates /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/.gnupg with its keyrings etc. That isn't a config file where admins can add/removes keys at will. I don't see any reason the keyring should be changed at all after it was created. I will consider changing from HOME=... gpg to gpg --homedir though. Probably is cleaner that way. I normaly have purge on per default. I guess I need to remove that and do some more testing. Thinking again, if there are custom signatures created in /usr/share/ia32-apt-get, shouldn't this be moved to /var? They are created only during package installation/configuration, never at runtime. As the FHS says: | /var is specified here in order to make it possible to mount /usr | read-only. Everything that once went into /usr that is written to | during system operation (as opposed to installation and software | maintenance) must be in /var. This is only at install time so /usr/share/ia32-apt-get seems fine. Andreas Unless you disagree I will close this bug when I change to --homedir and add the rmdir calls you suggested. Is that OK? Bug#523027: [oss-security] incorrect upstream fix for CVE-2009-0840 (mapserver)
On Mon, 22 Jun 2009, Nico Golde wrote: I'm not sure if this should get a new CVE id but the versions in the CVE id description should be adjusted and the upstream patch revised. This looks like even though there was a source code modification, the previous issue was not fixed at all. That is, any attack that would have worked before the fix, will still work after the fix. However, Fedora FEDORA-2009-3383 at least claims a fix for CVE-2009-0840, so a new CVE is probably in order to signal to admins that they have another issue to handle.
