Bug#536468: ITP: libumem -- Solaris slab allocator

2009-07-09 Thread Monty Taylor
Package: wnpp
Owner: Monty Taylor
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libumem
  Version : 1.0.1
Upstream Author : Message Systems, Inc.
* URL : http://labs.omniti.com/trac/portableumem
* License : CDDL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Solaris slab allocator

libumem is a port of the slab memory allocator from Solaris. It provides
runtime creation of slabs with per-cpu caching to reduce cpu contention
during memory allocation.

libumem also provides advanced memory debugging information and a
programmatic interface for creating object caches back by the heap or
memory mapped files.

Bug#536467: [nmudiff] diff should be sent as attachment even when not using mutt

Package: devscripts

Severity: minor

Hi,

Trying to obtain in-line patches is a PITA, which is exactly what happens when
nmudiff is called with --no-mutt.
Some time ago I wrote a bash function that builds an email out of several
parameters and it supports attachments, it might be useful:
http://git.debian.org/?p=users/atomo64-guest/debabaretools.git;a=blob;f=backends/mail.sh;hb=HEAD

Bug#536466: apache2.2-bin depends on libaprutil1-dbd-*

2009-07-09 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: apache2.2-bin
Version: 2.2.11-6
Severity: normal

apache2.2-bin has these in its Depends:

libaprutil1-dbd-mysql | libaprutil1-dbd-sqlite3 | libaprutil1-dbd-odbc |
libaprutil1-dbd-pgsql | libaprutil1-dbd-freetds
libaprutil1-ldap

These both increase the number of packages pulled in by gnome-user-share
and thus gnome-desktop-environment.

- Does apache2.2-bin actually depend on having a dbd module installed?
Or does this appear for the benefit of some optional apache module?
If the latter, would you consider moving the packages to Recommends?

- Same question for libaprutil1-ldap.

- Why default to the mysql module in particular?

Thanks,
Josh Triplett

Hi Guido,

the package was REJECTed for an "incorrect copyright file"; given
there is no obvious policy on which the FTP masters decide when
checking copyright files, I first need to check why *exactly* they
think that my copyright file is actually wrong.

My packages have been available ever since on

http://people.debian.org/~madkiss/ha/dists/sid/main/binary-amd64/

Bug#536354: linux-2.6: [s390,lenny] kernel panic during boot

2009-07-09 Thread Frans Pop
On Friday 10 July 2009, dann frazier wrote:
> Maybe the -fwrapv change?

Bingo. Makes a lot of sense too for an issue related to gcc version.

Reverting only that patch on top of -17 results in good boot too.

Gah! And it's even a known issue:
- http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/4/9/458

Does not yet look to be fixed upstream though. I only found 740ebe4a54,
but that's mips only.

P.S. Having the full series history in the kernel source was great for
tracking this bug! It allowed me to use my own (cross-)build system I
normally use to build upstream kernels (using 'make deb-pkg') in a very
straightforward manner.

Severity: wishlist

I permanently use pbuilder-user-mode-linux before upload packages in
debian. Sometimes changelog of package contains more than one change
sections. In these cases I have to add these sections into
package_*.changes by hand because options of dpkg-buildpackage/debuild/etc
like '-v0.1.0-1' are inaccessibly under pbuilder-uml.

Please add possibility entering options of dpkg-buildpackage when we

I'm seeing lots of what appears to be packet loss in traffic from the site
http://www.cv-it.com, performance inproves if I use kernel 2.6.18.5
but improves further if I use windows XP. upgrading linux to 2.6.26 does not
help
noticeably.

(upgrading XP to linux 2.6.26 helps, but not with this :)

On linux I'm using the same versions of libc and telnet binaries. (wget and
normal browsers exhibit this too, but telnet only depends on libc so it was
was chosen the comparison) As far as I can tell the only difference is the
kernel.

the server at cv-it.com claims to be Microsoft-IIS/7.0

I have set up 2 vmware machines on a lenny-based host and can do experiments
and comparisons there. (the fact that host is running kernel 2.6.26 does not
seem to effect the VMs)

Bug#536460: tintin++: tt++ command line editor interprets multibyte input as one-byte encoded

2009-07-09 Thread Basilevs
Package: tintin++
Version: 1.99.5-1
Severity: important

I run tt++ in LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 enviroment.

A problem appears when I'm trying to edit twobyte text (cyrillic).

1.
Backspace key erases the last symbol on the screen,
but a string sent to a server still contain first byte of erased symbol.
Pressing backspace twice causes two screen symbol erasure, but only
one symbol is erased from a command sent to a server.

2.
Navigation with left-right keys causes similar strange behaviour -
screen cursor is shifted one symbol per key press,
but insertion point in a string sent to a server shifts only one byte
per keypress (two keypresses is needed for one symbol shift).

3.
A length of the string recalled from the input history is also determined
incorrectly
(cursor is placed at byte-length position, not symbol length).

Described problems cause make (comfort) editing
of multibyte text impossible due to differences between
screen representation of command being edited and its internal
representation that is sent to the server.

I can still edit multibyte text keeping in mind internal representation and
ignoring corrupted screen one but that's awfully hard.

Bug#536459: zsh: Ctrl-ARROW gives ';5A' escape sequence instead of moving by word

2009-07-09 Thread Phil Miller
Package: zsh
Version: 4.3.10-2
Severity: normal

Until recently, Ctrl-LEFT and Ctrl-RIGHT have jumped back and forward in
the command line by a word at a time, akin to Emacs M-b/M-f. Now, when I
press one of the arrow keys in combination with Control, I get an escape
sequence:
Ctrl-UP:;5A
Ctrl-DOWNL ;5B
Ctrl-RIGHT: ;5C
Ctrl-LEFT: ;5D

I observe this behavior in both gnome-terminal and xterm, but not in a
console, where C-Arrow produces no visible effect. When I run bash in a
terminal emulator, these keystrokes produce the expected result.

Nice one. I applied the patch and can confirm that it fixes the problem.
I can now change my mac address. Thanks for the very fast fix.

Bug#356655: fuser doesn't find NFS exports that prevent umounting

2009-07-09 Thread Craig Small
Hello,
Over 3 years ago! you submitted a bug report about fuser not detecting
NFS exports. I'm not sure if you still care or not, but I have just
completed some patching of fuser in the upstream CVS that does this
detection.

I found that exporting alone doesn't stop a fs from being unmounted, but
it also needs to be mounted on a remote server. Luckily the files found
in /proc only show up exported and remotely mounted exports.

The output will look something like this:
$ src/fuser -mv /home2
 USERPID ACCESS COMMAND
/home2: root kernel mount /home2
 root kernel knfsd /home2

It should be shipping with psmisc 22.8, when its released.

The MAC change operation seems to have been accidentally left out of
this driver in a change to the way net device operations are set up.

Bug#513204: [php-maint] Bug#513204: php5-mysql: doesn't crash anymore if I use taskset to launch my php script

2009-07-09 Thread Greg Trounson
(sorry had originally only posted this to bug# 524366)

Hi,

Running php on Linux 2.6.26-2-686 #1 SMP, Lenny, on a 2x Opteron system.

It looks like the patched mysqlclient package has worked here:

# apt-get install libmysqlclient15off=5.0.51a-24lenny1
...
The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
  libmysqlclient15off
...
WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
  libmysqlclient15off
...
Preparing to replace libmysqlclient15off 5.0.51a-24+lenny1 (using
.../libmysqlclient15off_5.0.51a-24lenny1_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement libmysqlclient15off ...
Setting up libmysqlclient15off (5.0.51a-24lenny1) ...

I then ran a variant of Michael's php invocation script along with "stress
-c4 &", and after 800,000 iterations it hasn't missed a beat. Prior to
the package update the script would segfault after the first thousand or
two. The workaround of prependeding the php call with "taskset -c 0"
worked here too.

If there's no side-effects of this patch I'd recommend it go to stable
asap, with an incremented version number.

Thanks,
Greg

Bug#536454: apcupsd: apctest

2009-07-09 Thread Evan Harris

Package: apcupsd
Version: 3.14.4-1lenny1
Severity: normal

apctest does not appear to work properly when using the snmp driver. With
the exact same configuration, apcupsd works fine, but apctest fails with the
error "apctest: there is a problem here! We have no device open.".

I'm using an APC SmartSlot AP9605 SNMP adapter in a SU1400NET.

Here's good status info from the apcupsd events file showing it can talk to
the unit fine, and the config is the same, so the problem is with apcupsd:

Thu Jul 09 19:47:26 CDT 2009 Power failure.
Thu Jul 09 19:47:33 CDT 2009 Running on UPS batteries.
Thu Jul 09 19:47:37 CDT 2009 Mains returned. No longer on UPS batteries.

Bug#536455: linux-source-2.6.30: Unable to set NIC hwaddress

2009-07-09 Thread Nick Hastings
Package: linux-source-2.6.30
Version: 2.6.30-1
Severity: normal

After upgrading my kernel from 2.6.29 to 2.6.30 I am unable to set the
MAC address of my Prism 2.5 pci wireless NIC using the orinoco-pci
driver. My interfaces file has a section like:

iface eth1-foo inet dhcp
  wireless_key s:foobar
  wireless_essid barfoo
  wireless_mode managed
  hwaddress ether 00:01:02:03:04:05

Trying to bring up this interface results in the following:

# ifscheme foo
# ifup eth1
SIOCSIFHWADDR: Operation not supported
Failed to bring up eth1-foo

I have experienced this problem with the stock
linux-image-2.6.30-1-486 package kerenel and with custom built images
for the crusoe processor using the same config file as a 2.6.29 kernel
(which has no problem setting the NIC hwaddress). Booting back into a
2.6.29 kernel allows me to set the hardware address, so this problem
seems to really be kernel related and not caused by the userland
networking tools.

I have not yet investigated if this problem specifically relates to
the orinoco driver or if it is a more general issue.

Cheers,

Nick.

PS. The system information appended by reportbug below are for the
system on which the custom kernels were built, *not* the machine in
which the bug was observed.

This file is generated dynamically at build time. Could you attach a
copy of it from your system to the bug?

Also, just to double-check, did you run m-a clean openafs before doing
the build if you'd previously built an older version?

Bug#535023: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#535023: xfce4-smartbookmark-plugin: don't work with some browsers

Hi

I think it's related to bug #526619:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526619

xfce4-smartbookmark-plugin uses xfbrowser4 to launch the browser and since
xfbrowser4 uses exo-open, the url is sent with single quote to the browser.

since latest version of grub has made vga=0x318 deprecated in
favor of set gfxpayload=1027x...@32 before linux command
it would be nice that grub-common can support it through something
like GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX does in /etc/default/grub so that every time

Actually, it does.

http://bugs-rietz.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?severity=serious;severity=grave;severity=critical;exclude=tags:patch;exclude=pending:done;exclude=pending:absent;exclude=tags:pending;exclude=tags:squeeze-ignore;dist=testing

For example, selects bugs which are RC in testing but aren't tagged
suite-ignore, aren't tagged patch and are currently outstanding in
testing. [See the select options at the bottom of that page if the URI
scares you.]

>- optional: only those not claimed by someone

There's no information about this in the BTS, so you can't filter on
it.

>- optional: only those which are not yet 'done' (e.g an upload
> fixing this bug has happened)

This is rather difficult to figure out, unless you mean the trivial
case where someone has -done'd the bug, in which case I suppose I
could add a filter on that. [There's not currently one, but it's
fairly trivial.]

Bug#536449: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: can't figure out how increase scrollwheel sensitivity

2009-07-09 Thread Samuel Bronson
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Version: 1:2.2.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi. I can't figure out how to increase the sensitivity of the
scrollwheel->button 4/5 mapping on my mouse ... it seems a lot lower
than it used to be with the "mouse" driver and /dev/input/mice, as
configured in the commented-out InputDevice section below, that is, I
have to turn the wheel way further to get anywhere, and might as well
just move my hand to the keyboard and use Page Up/Page Down rather
than bother with the scroll wheel like this.

This could be a kernel problem, but I haven't really much clue about
that and if I try to double guess that I'll never get this report out,
so...

Bug#530235: Can be fixed by upgrading to arrows-0.4.1.1

2009-07-09 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi Kaol,

arrows-0.4.1.1 has a dependency on base that allows for base-4.1.
Upgrading to that should make it installable again.

Feel free to ask for an NMU.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#536448: xfce4-power-manager: Doesn't remember settings

2009-07-09 Thread Bob Hauck
Package: xfce4-power-manager
Version: 0.8.1.1-1
Severity: important

If I start power manager and configure it to suspend on lid close, it works
fine. If I then quit power manager and restart it, the settings according
to the preferences dialog are all as I set them but it does no longer suspend
on lid close. Instead it locks the screen, the default behavior.

If I then go into the preferences again and select something other than
suspend for lid close, and then go back to suspend, it works again. Until
I log out or exit power manger, at which time it reverts back to locking
the screen only.

It looks like power manager is reading it's settings on startup and setting
the buttons correctly in the preferences dialg, but not really applying the
settings. It worked correctly until today's update.

I left it as ITA because I was assuming Nikolas would take it
soon. and if he ends up deciding to not take it, I will. I just didn't
want it to show up to people as "request for adoption", because it's
not, there are already 2 potential maintainers :).

Bug#536446: kwin: dual screen, mouse's virtual position on wrong screen

2009-07-09 Thread Benjamin Peter
Package: kwin
Version: 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-6
Severity: normal

Hi,

sometimes, yes sorry I have no idea when, I get an annoying problem.

I have got a setup with monitor A, with a smaller resolution and a larger
monitor B using xinerama.

|||
| A |xxxv. B|
||.   |
 |-

When the problem occures, the mouse is still on the bigger monitor B, but
is only movable in an area as big as the smaller monitor A (Marked by x).
Additionally the position where a click is performed is not at the display
position of the cursor.

When I try to move the cursor lefft to monitor A, the cursor jumps into the
opposite direction, which is the edge of the currently movable area of
the mouse (Marked by the 'v'. It seems like it thinks the edge of
monitor A is somewhere in monitor B). Which means it stays on monitor B.

I can only move the cursor to monitor A if I manage to click focus a window
on that monitor. After that the behavior seems to be normal again.

Hope you can see what I mean - I would love to add a video but it can't
quite reproduce it.

I filed it as "kwin" but might also be a xfree problem.

Thanks for your time.

Benjamin Peter

Bug#536445: File association utility is missing on nautilus

2009-07-09 Thread Saulo Soares de Toledo
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.26.3-1
Severity: wishlist

I know I can change file association by right click at file -> Properties
and there are a space to change this. But I can have an utility with a list
of applications where I can do this to all file types and extensions, and
where I can add new extensions and associations. It's more simple to work.

KDE4 have something like this on "systemsettings" utility, at submenu "File
Associations" (KDE3 have too, but in KDE4 it's best).

Are you using the default .conkyrc file?

One reason that memory utilisation is high is if double_buffer is
used without own_window

Ok, that's what I wanted to confirm since sometimes infrequently-used

Following this Ryan Niebur set the owner to "no-owner" but Nikolas
has not set the owner to himself!

Hence, at this point no one owns this RFA/ITA and I'm setting it back
to RFA since it seems to be bad if the report is itself orphaned! :-)

By the way, Cesare Tirabassi is maintaining the
Ubuntu package and so you may want to get him on board as a
co-maintainer. (I'm cc-ing him in this message.)

Please get in touch with me for sponsor-ship of the upload if you need it.

Bug#532443: Remove .hi and .o before recompilation?

2009-07-09 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=532443 several users
have complained about problems with recompilation when upgrading ghc6.
It is not entirely sure whether this is due to a Debian-only change, or
whether it happens at regular ghc6 upgrades sometimes as well.

Anyways, I think it would not hurt to remove the xmonad.hi and xmonad.o
files before calling ghc6 in the "recompile" function. Would this be
acceptable?

Greetings,
Joachim

It should be at least non-greedy.

To avoid that we'd need to use \G and friends. The only problem is that we'd
need to modify every use of LEADIN to handle that, so I'm not quite sure
that's the best option.

Yeah, this is mostly what I said on #530815. But it'd be better in a
separate class so that we can reuse it. I haven't started working on it
mainly because I can't think of a good design for the class (I guess I'll
have to use TDD, otherwise I won't do anything any time soon).

It does work. But this is not core of problem. To be more accurate, it was
working before upgrade. But with 3.4.0 it does not work with or without

If this is a compiler bug then it doesn't necessarily relate in any
obvious way to any of the code changes. :-( You may have to bisect the
patch series.

That's the problem: neither does Lintian without having access to the
changelog file, which is where the distribution is stated.

We can handle this for packages that contain ubuntu in the version
number, but I don't see any way for Lintian to know that this is an
Ubuntu package if it contains no changelog (and a dangling symlink,
which is what we see for such packages, is equivalent to having no
changelog) and doesn't have ubuntu in the version number.

autotools after applying it.

This looks wrong to me: we definitely use classes from the libs you removed.

Bug#533927: libheckle-ruby: FTBFS: tests failed

2009-07-09 Thread Tobias Grimm
I'm now sure, that this bug is caused by changes between Ruby 1.8.7.72 and
1.8.7.174, which produce a problem with libparsetree-ruby. The latest
upstream version of libparsetree would help, but it would introduce a new
package.

Packaging sexp_processor, which was split off from ParseTree seems to be
an easy task. Unfortunately the latest ParseTree fails to pass all it's
tests and it's not very easy to track these problems down.

I decided, that if I update libparsetree-ruby, than it must be done right
and all tests should pass.

Until then, I'm going to simply fix the current version in Debian (See
#536437).

Tobias

I've just uploaded a new upstream version of freesci to the archive.
Could you please test if this bug still applies to the new version?

In any case, upstream development on freesci has stopped, because the

I'd suggest the CVE-2009-0029 fixes. Lots of arch-specific stuff in
there.

This is a known problem with 2.6.31-rc2 and it is likely to be resolved
upstream before 2.6.31.

Thanks for prodding me into working on this long standing problem!

There is a pretty stringent standard in place for uploads to stable and
old-stable [1], and I am not sure we can get over that bar. There may
be some debate whether this problem is a "truly critical functionality
problem", and as of now there is little evidence whether the fix
actually works as intended. Once -14 enters testing and there are no
reports of 100% CPU usage in a month or two, we can then talk to the
stable release team...

Bisect... - the following all built with gcc-4.1 (4.1.2-25):
* 2.6.26-15lenny3 panics
* 2.6.26-14   panics

=> the problem is in 2.6.26-14

(I guess this also tells us a lot about how many users run Lenny s390 with
a Debian kernel :-/ Unless maybe s390x is not affected.)

/me looks at patches in -14
Hmmm, panic is about where modules first get loaded, let's try reverting
bugfix/parisc/fix-loading-large-kmods.patch.

Nope. Still panics. Do you have any ideas? Bastian maybe?

Bug#536437: [libparsetree-ruby1.8] Ruby 1.8.7.174 breaks some ParseTree functionallity

2009-07-09 Thread Tobias Grimm
Package: libparsetree-ruby1.8

With the Ruby1.8-Update from 1.8.7 p72 to 1.8.7.174, libparstree has a problem
with
ranges:

With 1.8.7 p72 (Lenny):

$ ruby -e "require 'parse_tree' ; puts ParseTree.translate('1..2')"
lit
1..2

With 1.8.7 p174 (Sid/Squeeze):

$ ruby truby -e "require 'parse_tree' ; puts ParseTree.translate('1..2')"
lit

I could track down the code in ParseTree, that causes this problem and
isolated a bugfix from the upstream's SVN. Please see the attached patch.

JS_SetCStringsAreUTF8 appears in SpiderMonkey 1.8, but the package
uses 1.7, so you can't use it at runtime. You have to set it at
compile time.

I'm in the process of packaging this (and a set of libraries for

We'll soon be releasing Debian packages for the entire iHRIS Suite as
well.

Bug#536434: [checks/changelog-file] Do not check debian-changelog-file-is-a-symlink for Ubuntu packages

2009-07-09 Thread Benjamin Drung
Package: lintian
Version: 2.2.13

Ubuntu allows symlinked changelog files. So please do not report
debian-changelog-file-is-a-symlink if the package is an Ubuntu package.

I tried to write a patch for it, but Perl does not like me (or the other
way round). The check rule should look like

if (-l 'changelog' && !($version =~ /$UBUNTU_REGEX/ or $distribution =~
/$UBUNTU_REGEX/)) {
tag "debian-changelog-file-is-a-symlink", "";
return 0;
}

but I don't know how to determine $distribution.

Cheers,
Benjamin

I can't be 100% sure I saw it before or that it was on the same machine,
but after googling for the scary error message, I did have a strong
nonspecific memory of doing it before and having to delete those files.
Can't be 100% tho.

  32646 bmc 20 0 2244M 20228 2600 S 0.0 0.7 7:07.42
/usr/bin/compiz.real --ignore-desktop-hints --replace --replace core ccp

This causes a large amount of swap to be used and impairs the usability
of the desktop. I'm happy to provide anything that you need to solve
this problem.

Bug#536154: emacs-goodies-el: quack overrides emacs defaults, should probably be optional (aggressive)

I think Sami's logic that the changes are too invasive to be enabled
by default sounds about right.

Thanks for taking the lead on this, I just left town for a conference
so it's difficult for me to do any work on this for the next week, but
if you keep me CC'd I can try to find some time to test the changes
you make. Neil is around on #scheme where I hang out normally so if it
looks like there's a way to support quack.el better for autoloading
rather than through always manually requiring it I can also pass those
on to him.

Daniel

Bug#536432: discussion log

2009-07-09 Thread martin f krafft
This is from an IRC discussion:

09 22:48 < mbiebl> madduck: at first sight, I don't really like the idea
09 22:48 < madduck> yeah, neither do I
09 22:48 < madduck> but it's a good feature to have, and between that and the
backwards-compatible format of the file, I am not sure there's anything better
09 22:48 < mbiebl> just use dateext
09 22:49 < madduck> that just seems like a hack
09 22:49 < mbiebl> why
09 22:49 < madduck> write to a log file, rotate it to a dateext at a time
that's not midnight, tell the syslog daemon to open a new file
09 22:49 < madduck> when instead the syslog daemon could just write to the
per-day file directly.
09 22:51 < madduck> and it would be trivial to have another config file that
controlled a cron process to clean old files
09 22:51 < madduck> e.g. mail.log:730\nsyslog:30\ndebug.log:7
09 22:51 < mbiebl> I don't really get it, why the dynfile support is not
sufficient for you
09 22:51 < madduck> because then i have to modify /etc/rsyslog.conf
09 22:52 < mbiebl> so?
09 22:52 < madduck> it means that every upgrade, i will have to migrate my
changes
09 22:52 < madduck> (if you change the file)
09 22:52 < madduck> i am just thinking in terms of maintenance
09 22:52 < madduck> sure, i can use puppet
09 22:53 < madduck> but i really prefer not to and rather to try to improve
debian. ;)
09 22:52 < mbiebl> fwiw there is a wishlist bug to split the rules files from
the config
09 22:53 < mbiebl> and I'm considering to do just that
09 22:53 < madduck> mbiebl: yeah, but that won't solve the fundamental problem
09 22:53 < madduck> i'd like to change the way rsyslog behaves by adding a file
to /etc/rsyslog.d
09 22:53 < madduck> not by changing dpkg-installed filrs
09 22:53 < mbiebl> well, then you can just rm /etc/rsyslog.d/logging_rules.conf
09 22:54 < madduck> but then i'd have to maintain my own rules
09 22:54 < mbiebl> and define your custom log files
09 22:54 < madduck> when instead i'd like to just take the existing rules and
mangle the log filenames
