Bug#538217: wireless-tools: iwconfig can't set key but wpa_supplicant can

2009-07-23 Thread S Hwang
Package: wireless-tools
Version: 29-2
Severity: important

I'm setting up a new install on a Medion Akoya P6611. It uses Intel 5100 AGN
for the wireless networking. When trying to get the wireless network
configured, I have found that iwconfig is unable to set the encryption key and
thus fails to associate with the router. I issue the command:
iwconfig wlan0 key myhexkey
and the error message is:
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
Set failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
I get the same error if I use iwconfig wlan0 key s:mypassphrase. I can set
essid and mode without errors.

But, wpa_supplicant (with an appropriate configuration file that contains the
passphrase) can succesfully set the key and associate with the router. If I
then type iwconfig wlan0, it reports that the encryption key has been set. I
can then successfully ifup wlan0 (though it still complains about setting the
key).

I'm using the iwlagn module with the firmware downloaded by firmware-iwlwifi
(which the kernel complains is out of date - see bug 532207). I also tried the
newest firmware downloaded from the link provided in that bug report. This did
not help.

Perhaps this is a driver problem, and not specifically something with iwconfig,
but I don't know how to tell beyond what I've already tried.

Bug#538171: ITP: makefs -- create a file system image from a directory tree

NetBSD® makefs(8) creates a file system image from a directory tree

ECMA 119, SUSP and RRIP (Rock Ridge) compliance.

Supported target filesystem types are:

Rock Ridge, El Torito, and other features

support for UFS2 is currently untested

Debian GNU/kFreeBSD. It also serves purpose as a genisoimage re-
placement, if people should then so wish. (Which is why the MirBSD
version was ported, as it conforms to ECMA 119, RRIP, SUSP and the
El Torito standard, which the NetBSD® version doesn’t.)

Does this imply "make a bootable CD image"?

Bug#538216: ace-of-penguins: windows can't be moved

Package: ace-of-penguins

Severity: normal

Hash: SHA1

For some reason, I often find that I am not allowed to move
ace-of-penguins windows out of the corner of the scren in which they
start. This happens often but not always, and I haven't been able to
discren any pattern. My window manager is metacity. Attached is a
screenshot showing the 'Move' option in the window menu disabled.

I'd blame this on the window manager, but I've never seen this problem
with any application other than the ace-of-penguins games, so maybe a
wrong hint is being set somewhere? I don't fully understand how these
things work.

If I can further assist in debugging, please let me know.

Bug#538215: gnome-applets: mixer-applet eats my CPU

2009-07-23 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: gnome-applets

My CPU seems very busy and suddenly I notice, in top :

mixer-applet is eating more than 50% of my CPU, which is really weird : no
sound playing... nothing really special happening ATM on the computer
otherwise...

Thanks in advance if you can help debug why.

In the meantime, I'm gonna kill it.

Hi Ross,

first of all: Thank you! :-) I was very happy to integrate the new GPL
version (2008) of Latex2html into Debian.

However, I'm sending you the REJECT mail from the archive administrators
who found some problems with the current licensing. They are very
strict, and it looks like we need to address those issues first before
we have latex2html in "Debian main" again.

Thanks in advance!

Bug#538214: ITP: libio-compress-perl -- IO::Compress modules

2009-07-23 Thread Scott Kitterman
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Scott Kitterman

* Package name: libio-compress-perl
  Version : 2.020
  Upstream Author : Paul Marquess
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/IO-Compress/
* License : "Same terms as Perl"
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : IO::Compress modules

This module contains all IO::Compress and IO::Uncompress modules:
..
  - Compress-Zlib
  - IO-Compress-Zlib
  - IO-Compress-Bzip2
  - IO-Compress-Base
..
Compress::Zlib is a Perl external module which provides an interface to
the info-zip zlib compression library. zlib is a general purpose
compression library.
..
Some of the features provided by Compress::Zlib include:
..
   * in-memory compression and decompression
   * read and write gzip (.gz) files directly.
..
IO::Compress::Bunzip2 and IO::Uncompress::Bunzip2 provide a Perl interface
that allows transparent reading and writing bzip2 compressed data files or
buffers.
..
IO::Compress::Bases is the base class for all IO::Compress and IO::Uncompress
modules. It is not intended for direct use in application code. Its sole
purpose is to be sub-classed by IO::Compress modules.

Note: This is due to an upstream merge of libio-compress-bzip2-perl,
libcompress-zlib-perl, libio-compress-zlib-perl, and
libio-compress-base-perl. I am coordinating this upload with the
maintainers of these packages. The resulting package will probably be
mainained in pkg-perl.

if this is considered a problem maybe add a dpatch to rip out that check?
All it does it assume ARM means you have a small device+screen and so the
default window size is a little smaller. If it fails due to dash being
used (perhaps not an unusual occurance on embedded ARM systems) it just
falls back to the initial default window size of 640x480. Personally
I'd be inclined to just leave it as-is.

What evidence do you have that this is a kernel issue? Was there an
oops (see dmesg output)? Can you get a backtrace w/ gdb? Does it go
away if you back to the previous kernel?

Bug#538212: please provide a linux-image-r5k-ip22

2009-07-23 Thread Siggy Brentrup
Package: linux-latest-2.6
Severity: wishlist

I'm owning an Indy R5000 with IP22 ROM.

last dist-upgrade left me with an unconfigured openssh-server because
ssh-keygen & friends segfault during initialization.

I seem to remember from before 2004 that I experienced similar
problems which were remedied by installing a r5k-ip22 kernel.

Since I can't find any documentation on that fact, it's just from the
top of my head.

This machine being so slw and low on disk and memory, I'll try to
crosscompile on better equipped box now.

Thanks
  Siggy

Bug#535994: [Mutt] #3295: postponed email marked new (make this configurable)

#3295: postponed email marked new (make this configurable)
---+
  Reporter: anto...@dyne.org | Owner: mutt-dev
  Type: enhancement | Status: new
  Priority: trivial | Milestone:
 Component: mutt | Version: 1.5.20
Resolution:|Keywords:

Comment(by k):

I'm watching my postponed folder not so much on purpose as because,
referring to the [http://www.elho.net/mutt/maildir/ Mutt & Maildir Mini-
 HOWTO], I set:
 {{{
 mailboxes `echo -n "+ "; find ~/Maildir -maxdepth 1 -type d -name ".*"
 -printf "+'%f' "`
 }}}

Following pdmef's suggestion of not watching my postponed folder, I added:
 {{{
 unmailboxes +'.Drafts'
 }}}

This helps in some way since %b isn't affected by new email in my
postponed folder (i.e. Drafts), but as pdmef said, this makes it
harder to navigate to that folder.

Doesn't it seem inconsistent that when composing and sending an email,
when it goes into the record folder it isn't flagged new whereas composing
and postponing a message gets an email flagged as new? I can see how
flagging postponed messages new can act as a reminder than one has
postponed messages, but using the 'new' flag for this doesn't seem quite
 right.

By the way, the last line of my original message should read: "Can mutt be
configured so ''postponed'' emails are not marked as new?"

Bug#538211: ITP: texworks -- An environment for authoring TeX (LaTeX, ConTeXt, etc) documents

2009-07-23 Thread Atsuhito KOHDA
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Atsuhito KOHDA

* Package name: texworks
  Version : N/A (svn rev.333)
  Upstream Author : Jonathan Kew
* URL : http://www.tug.org/texworks/
* License : GPL ver.2.0
Description : An environment for authoring TeX (LaTeX, ConTeXt, etc)
documents

An environment for authoring TeX (LaTeX, ConTeXt, etc) documents, with
a Unicode-based, TeX-aware editor, integrated PDF viewer, and a clean,
simple interface accessible to casual and non-technical users.
 .
TeXworks is inspired by Dick Koch's award-winning TeXShop program for
Mac OS X, which has made quality typesetting through TeX accessible to
a wider community of users, without a technical or intimidating face.
The goal of TeXworks is to deliver a similarly integrated, easy-to-use
environment for users on other platforms, especially GNU/Linux and Windows.

Jonathan Kew is very famous for his XeTeX and texworks is
also his work. Although I have not used TeXShop but heard
that it is an excellent tool. We will enjoy a similar excellent
texworks. As far as I tested my private package, it could
display multi-byte characters like CJK in its pdf-viewer and
its most notable feature is synctex support IMHO.

I believe the reason Darcs' zlib dependency was bumped to 0.5.1 is
because 0.5.0 has known problems with CRC (checksums) -- either
generating bad ones, or failing to detect/repair bad ones.

I can dig up the exact details if you want.

Bug#538208: pkglab: depends on non-existing package libledit-ocaml

2009-07-23 Thread Philipp Kern
Package: pkglab
Version: 1.4.2-3
Severity: serious

pkglab depends on non-existing package libledit-ocaml. I guess
edos-distcheck could have found it... but... well... fix it, please.
This holds up the ocaml transition by the virtue of edos-debcheck
in testing breaking by having ocaml-base-nox-3.11.0 to go away,
which needs the migration of the new edos-debcheck in testing,
which in turn needs edos-distcheck to migrate.

Cheers and good night,

Bug#538100: dash makes strange things during command substitution

2009-07-23 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
I've just noticed something even more weird
When using that weird "\.\/\d \/\i\m\g\e\.\o\g" string (with the tab and
the 0x7's) as grep pattern, it actually matches lines that contain
"./data/image.oga".
When using --color=auto one sees, that the full "./data/image.oga" is
matched, and not just the first characters or so.

Perhaps another bug?

btw: The out put from
printf "${file}" | sed --regexp-extended 's/(.)/\\\1/g'
alone is correct in dash:
\.\/\d\a\t\a\/\i\m\a\g\e\.\o\g\a

It's the command-substitution,.. which makes strange transformations.

Cheers,
Chris.

Bug#538176: zope3 and python-zope.i18nmessageid: error when trying to install together

2009-07-23 Thread Matthias Klose
please stop filing these bugs. there's work in progress. it's a transition
currently going on and zope3 will be removed in the end. it's currently stuck a
bit because some packages are still in the NEW queue.

Moving the server.crt aside allows the daemon to start. I'm pretty
sure that I didn't manually create that server.crt symlink..

Bug#538194: fdm doesn't handle EXDEV when linking files.

2009-07-23 Thread Nicholas Marriott
Hi

Thanks for the report.

This isn't really an fdm bug per se, the point of maildirs is to allow delivery
to happen safely without locking. On AFS you are probably best using mboxes
which have flaws but can be locked atomically.

Saying that, I don't see a reason not to make this work for people who are
prepared to accept the risk or who know for sure they are delivering mail
sequentially. With fdm, you will want to set queue-high/queue-low to 1, and
perhaps parallel-accounts to 1 if you have multiple accounts delivering to the
same maildir.

This diff is reasonable, but if possible I'd rather it was implemented as a
wrapper function (xlink?) which has the same semantics as link but falls back
to stat/rename if it fails with EXDEV.

It will also probably need a note in the manual documenting this behaviour.

Offhand I don't think there are any other places where fdm does a
cross-directory link.

Regards

Nicholas

This is #529188. I rebuilt ncurses-ruby here:
http://apt.rupamsunyata.org/sup/

I'll just leave this bug here instead of reassigning/merging it so that
it shows up for anyone else checking for existing bug reports.

Bug#538151: Use apt-file

2009-07-23 Thread Samat K Jain
If you're looking for a specifically-named binary, you could use apt-file
(included in the apt-file package):

$ apt-file search srm | grep bin
aboot-cross: /usr/bin/srmbootfat
pvm-examples: /usr/bin/srm.pvm
secure-delete: /usr/bin/srm

Also, you can use the package file search at http://packages.debian.org/.

2009-07-23 Thread Benjamin Cama
Package: tftpd-hpa

Hi,

The postinst script fails because tftpd won't start. This is because UDP port
69 is already bound by inetd, which is the way I chose tftpd to run.

Something should be done to detect that, or continue the postinst script even
if tftpd doesn't want to start by its own init script.

Hello,

My case is like this, I got an upstream tarball with 2 subdirs,
each subdir has its setup.py, and each of those subdirs should be
installed in a separate binary package.

So, in debian/rules I would do:

override_dh_auto_install:
  dh_auto_install --sourcedirectory -p
  dh_auto_install --sourcedirectory -p

and I would expect that this would install in debian/, but
instead dh_auto_install ignores the -p switch, and just
  installs to debian/tmp

OK, I think I have been looking at the wrong thing. I thought the problem was
that the [libcurl] process got stuck using all the CPU and didn't become
idle and then exit after the upgrade had finished.

If I understand properly, your problem is that it consumes too many
cycles whilst actually working. Is that right?

Bug#538200: Pressing 'L' causes sup-mail to crash with 'symbol lookup error'

2009-07-23 Thread Amit Uttamchandani
Package: sup-mail
Version: 0.8.1-1
Severity: normal

Pressing 'L' for sup-mail should do a quick label search. However, as
soon as 'L' is presses, sup-mail crashes and the following error is
displayed:

ruby: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/ncurses_bin.so:
undefined symbol: funcall

The terminal is then "messed up". Whereby typing any command causes
characters to be printed all over the place
(http://pastebin.com/f6be3e21)

Also, sup-mail leaves a .lock file behind. This means that when
relaunching sup-mail again it detects the lock file and asks the user if
the process should be killed. Selecting 'yes' does not do anything as
the process has already been terminated. Removing the .lock file
manually fixes the issue.

Yes.

The only thing that may have changed after application of the patch is
that the throughput went down. But I'm not sure how good it was before.

No; it's the one using all the CPU.

I haven't timed it exactly, but I think it disappears after a decent
interval.

Yes this file is in the package, but this is a completely different

Would you mind giving a try to the attached patch?
Supposedly, it should do the right thing, though I couldn't test it for
obvious reasons.

Hi,

these steps, while e17 is in Illume mode and xterm is not installed,

I hope you can reproduce it as well.

Bug#538193: rtai-source: make-kpkg deprecated patch system -- please just ship all available patches

2009-07-23 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
Package: rtai-source
Version: 3.7.1-1
Severity: normal

Haven't built patched kernel for a while, and now wanted to setup RTAI --
make-kpkg puked on option to apply the patches -- changelog said that it was
deprecated :-/

So, I guess, it would be more useful just to ship patches for all available
versions.

http://cvs.gna.org/cvsweb/magma/base/arch/x86/patches/?cvsroot=rtai

carries patches for all recent versions, including 2.6.26 (even though it is
not in the released tarball), so it would address #513588. Also CVS
(vulcano/stable branch as well) has patches against 2.6.30, which are not
in the released version (not sure if they are compatible though).

Thanks in advance!

Bug#538191: [cowpoke] do not set username by default

Package: devscripts

Hi,

cowpoke insists on setting a username, and defaults to the user on the
originating host. This is not very friendly to people who have all
necessary options per host configured in ~/.ssh/config.

I’d propose rather to use no username by default. ssh will already use
the current user, if none is specified in the config.

Thanks,
Joachim

Bug#538194: fdm doesn't handle EXDEV when linking files.

2009-07-23 Thread Louis Opter
Package: fdm
Version: 1.5-3
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Dear maintainer,

link() fails with EXDEV when you try to link files accross file systems.

On the AFS file system, this also occurs between directories :
http://docs.openafs.org/AdminGuide/ch02.html#HDRWQ32

This special case breaks fdm when using maildirs on OpenAFS.

I suggest a patch which workaround EXDEV by using stat() and rename().

I haven't run fdm's regressions tests on it. I have just checked it on
AFS and ext3.

A similar issue has been fixed in openssh (see #352589).

The same bug certainly exists in other parts of fdm.

Here is the code :

Bug#537098: openafs-client: chdir() returns invalid working directory in chroot environment

2009-07-23 Thread Christian Ambach

Hi Russ,

I have fixed our root.cell so we can back to the original problem report. Sorry
for the noise.

Let me try to describe it in another way:

we chroot() FTP users into our root.cell.
Under that, several volumes are mounted. For one particular volume, FTP access in the chroot does not work correctly,
because getcwd() returns the absolute path to the FTP daemon instead of the path relative to the chroot as it is in the
other volumes.

The bad volume is the "www" one, here are some traces of the FTP daemon

pm3:~# strace -ff -p 3574 2>&1|grep cwd
[pid 23701] getcwd("/"..., 4096)= 2
[pid 23701] getcwd("/"..., 4096)= 2
[pid 23701] getcwd("/upload"..., 4096) = 8
[pid 23701] getcwd("/afs/./www"..., 4096) = 24
[pid 23701] getcwd("/afs/./www"..., 4096) = 24

The bad getcwd output leads to the FTP server reporting to the user that he is now in the absolute path (but that does
not exist because we are in the chroot). So if you are using a graphical client like FileZilla, it will report that you
are now in /afs/./www instead of just /www and all links to subdirectories in the FTP client are broken.

So there has to be something special about that volume and I suspect it is that only in this volume other processes like
apache are opening files and maybe doing getcwd() calls too.

It is possible that the AFS client caches the result of a getcwd() call or something similar for all processes and does
not take chrooted processes into account?

Is there anything else I can provide to you for debugging purposes?

Cheers,
Christian

To be honest it would be better to have something based on the actual
localepurge algorighm, not its effects on one particular system.

Cruft's matching "engine" does not support named classes. Or any classes
for that matter, IIRC.

I don't want to sound harsh, but that script would need some work. It
contains some naive (in the technical sense) parsing and does not quote
arguments to "cat", to begin with.

Has this always been the case with 1.6.8? Did something else change?

Is that thread idle? Does it not exit after about 2 minutes? I expect it
to be there, but idle and then exit after being unused for 120 seconds

Yes, I noticed that and sent a copy to debian bugs as well

Bug#509126: apt-cacher: uses most of CPU

2009-07-23 Thread Ross Boylan
[same as previous message, except cc'ing the correct bug]

No luck. Same or worse behavior as before.

During aptitude update
apt-cacher shows as using most CPU.
Throughput well below my link speed (this is the part that might be
worse than before).

During aptitude upgrade, while pulling in debs
apt-cacher shows as using most cpu. The offending thread says still
lists apt-cacher as the command line, but has [libcurl] afterwards.

This should be /usr/share/doc/lazarus/index.html, but this is not
packaged. I'll try to fix that soon.

Bug#465109: updated patch

Attached is an updated patch that works with amd64. I just changed the
xpm icon buffer to an array of unsigned long (instead of CARD32). I'm
sure that is not the correct approach, but it seems to work just fine.

From where does come
your /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/rpm/__init__.py? python-rpm does
not ship it and neither did previous version.

Lowering severity, because it really looks like some issue with your
system.

Bug#538185: notifications do work

Ok, notifications do seem to work regardless, except for empathy?!

Here's how it looks like (without the PA applet) with
gnome-swallow-applet having swallowed stalonetray.

Bug#538186: Uncommon key “Execute” in Illume default config

2009-07-23 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: e17
Version: 0.16.999.061-2
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

default Illume configuration specifies an action upon a key “Execute“:

  group "key_bindings" list {
group "E_Config_Binding_Key" struct {
  value "context" int: 9;
  value "modifiers" int: 0;
  value "key" string: "Execute";
  value "action" string: "delayed_action";
  value "params" string: "[0.0 syscon] [2.0 halt_now]";
  value "any_mod" uchar: 1;
}
  }

I could not find any reference to an Execute key on Debian, e.g. in
/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB. Therefore, I’d propose to change it to, for
example, XF86PowerOff. (This in particular would make the key behave as
expected on a FreeRunner).

Thanks,
Joachim

Bug#538187: gzip doesn't call close() when writing to stdout

2009-07-23 Thread Mark Kidwell
Package: gzip
Version: 1.3.12-6
Severity: important
Tags: patch

When gzip is compressing / decompressing regular files, it checks the
return status of close on the outfile. But when compressing / decompressing to
stdout, it doesn't call close before exiting. This can lead to
undetectable write errors on NFS v3 filesystems, where writes can be
buffered locally until the final close or exit triggers an NFS v3 commit.

Bug#538185: gnome-panel: notification area not working

2009-07-23 Thread Johannes Berg
Package: gnome-panel
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: important

For a while now, I have not had tray icons in the notification
area, and apparently due to that, also no osd notifications,
see attached screenshot.

Not knowing where the bug might be, I didn't report it for a
long time, but benjamin suggested to run stalonetray, and lo
and behold, stalonetray gets me not only my tray icons, but
also OSD notifications back! Of course that's not a permanent
solution!

Copy the database over. :) With the diverting this worked perfectly as
it would just keep using the old database. Now ia32-aptitude looks in
the wrong place.

Bug#208659: Confirmation of bug and patch

2009-07-23 Thread Dominique Unruh
I experience the same bug with another package.
Apt-src (version: 0.25.1-0.1) did not update from amule
2.2.2-1unbuntu1 to 2.2.4-1ubuntu1.1.

Sven's patch (message #10) works.

I debugged the problem and can explain Sven's patch:

In my situation (i.e., when comparing 2.2.2-1unbuntu1 and 2.2.4-1ubuntu1.1
$vs->compare($match->{Version}, $version)  returns 2.

This is in accordance with the documentation of AptPkg::Version (which
is the type of $vs):

   compare(A, B)
Compare package version A with B, returning a negative value if A
is an earlier version than B, zero if the same or a positive value
   if A is later.

(from the AptPkg::Version man page)

Apt-src 0.25.1-0.1 only checks whether compare only returns a value != 1.
If not, apt-src thinks the package has not changed.
However, any return value >0 should have the same effect as 1.
This is what the patch does.

Best,
Dominique.

Bug#538171: ITP: makefs -- create a file system image from a directory tree

Dixi quod…

> Description : create a file system image from a directory tree

First package, tested on sid of today (linux-i386), is available
at: http://www.freewrt.org/~tg/debs/dists/sid/wtf/pkgs/makefs/

Read http://www.NetBSD.org/cgi-bin/query-pr-single.pl?number=33925
for a long-standing bug in the ffs code, though (you’ll probably
have to use the -s option – in MirBSD, we use makefs(8) with it for
floppies, and all other uses are cd9660 which works superb).

I also manually rsync’d the AnonCVS and CVSweb mirror, so feel free
to poke in it (both for the package and for makefs itself).

Online manual page: http://www.mirbsd.org/man8/makefs

Aurelien Jarno will be looking into it (tomorrow, probably), but
more eyes never hurt. Luca Favatella will be testing it with his
d-i work on kfreebsd-* soonish.

bye,

Bug#532820: [cppcheck] Erroneously reports : (error) Invalid number of character

2009-07-23 Thread Reijo Tomperi

Hi,

Yet another status report

[./drivers/isdn/mISDN/dsp_cmx.c:1580]: (error) Invalid number of character ({).
Can't process file.

This happens because of this code, which looks like it is put there on
purpose to cause compilation error if DSP_NEVER_DEFINED is defined. I
don't think there is a bug in Cppcheck or Linux, while it would be nice
if there would be a comment on that line to tell what is the meaning of
it. No bugs reported.

#ifdef DSP_NEVER_DEFINED
}
#endif

[./drivers/staging/frontier/tranzport.c:666]: (error) Invalid number of
character ({). Can't process file.

Reported to Cppcheck:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/cppcheck/ticket/501

[./drivers/staging/wlan-ng/p80211types.h:208]: (error) Invalid number of
character ({). Can't process file.

This was actually in drivers/staging/wlan-ng/p80211netdev.c. It looks
like a bug in the kernel. Bug reported:

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13820

[./drivers/video/atafb.c:156]: (error) Invalid number of character ({). Can't
process file.

Reported to Cppcheck and fixed in trunk:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/cppcheck/ticket/469

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail. Possible
solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common
file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one
package and have this package depend on the other package. File
diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  usr/bin/dico
  usr/share/man/man1/dico.1.gz

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

-Ralf.

currently the dependency is locked to octave3.0. Would be nice to be
able to use qtoctave with octave3.x

You can choose octave3.2 as default octave using update-alternatives:
# update-alternatives --config octave

However, 3.0 and 3.2 are so different that you'll end up with an error
message in QtOctave's message window:

octave:13>error: `variables' undefined near line 1 column 176

So, I won't change the dependency for now.

Thomas

Actually qtoctave 0.8.2 works out the compatibility with octave 3.2. So
this bug should really be a wishlist for updating qtoctave to 0.8.2

OK, I'll pull that. At least it has received /some/ level of testing.

The current package is still from a released tarball, not from git,
but thanks for bringing that up!

Bug#538178: python-rpm: Entirely broken

2009-07-23 Thread William Pitcock
Package: python-rpm
Version: 4.7.0-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrading python-rpm to the version in unstable, I get this:

>>> import rpm
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/rpm/__init__.py", line 7, in
from _rpm import *
ImportError: No module named _rpm

This also means yum fails, so I can't build RPM-based chroots...

Bug#538177: grub-ieee1275 and grub-coreboot: error when trying to install together

2009-07-23 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: grub-coreboot,grub-ieee1275
Version: grub-coreboot/1.96+20090721-4
Version: grub-ieee1275/1.96+20090721-4
Severity: serious
User: trei...@debian.org
Usertags: edos-file-overwrite

Date: 2009-07-23
Architecture: amd64
Distribution: sid

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!

(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme
  usr/sbin/grub-install
  usr/sbin/update-grub
  usr/sbin/update-grub2
  usr/share/grub/default/grub
  usr/share/grub/default/grub.md5sum
  usr/share/man/man8/grub-install.8.gz
  usr/share/man/man8/update-grub.8.gz
  usr/share/man/man8/update-grub2.8.gz

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

-Ralf.

Bug#537996: More details

2009-07-23 Thread Tomaž Šolc
Some more details:

It appears that SvIV() call at src/speedy_perl.c:821 is sometimes called
on an undef value. SvIV() then tries to trigger a "use of uninitialized
value" warning, which then bombs out when it can't find the location of
the call in Perl source.

I have "#!/usr/bin/speedy -Tw" in my CGI script.

According to folks at #perl, SvIV() should always be safe to call, even
outside the interpreter. However, the attached patch appears to fix the
problem for me (and is probably also a more correct way of doing that if
statement anyway).

Somebody with deeper knowledge of Perl guts will have to tell if it just
fixes the symptoms or the cause of the bug.

Thanks
Tomaž

Hi Martin,

I'd like to adopt and maintain sleuthkit, but I need sponsoring for uploads.
Are you interested in, or maybe can I ask Daniel and consider joining the
Forensic team as well?

Thanks,

Yes.

Ah. Packed color...

Well it just list the modes (and - yes - 0x305 is present)

All modes work except for the ones using packed color format (8 bits).

Bug#538174: readahead: max_user_watches too low for profiling boot

2009-07-23 Thread Kevin Mitchell
Package: readahead
Version: 1:1.20060421.1016-6
Severity: normal

I was having problems profiling my boot. I would get a bunch of "no
space left on device" messages when udev was starting up (in spite of
the fact that I don't have any full devices) and most importantly, it
would somehow screw up the new hal/xorg rediculousness so that my mouse
and keyboard didn't work once I got to the login screen.

I determined that the problem was that I was exceeding my maximum number
of inotify watches (8192 by default I believe). I got things working again
by adding

echo 65535 > /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches

at the beginning of the profiling if clause in
/etc/init.d/readahead. I'm sure there's a less hackish way to do this,
but it would probably be a good idea to increase the max user watches
during profile.
