It seems there was some change within debhelper. It also affected the
DBUS package recently:

Yes, the package is already named python-scitools. I guess I just thought
that the 'Package name' field should contain the name of the source
package and not the name of the binary package.

Yes, of course. SciTools does not include any of these packages, its only

So compiz just always segfault. I am retitling and merging with other
bugs, it's likely a ABI breakage in other lib. Rebuilding compiz may help.

Bug#539100: libblkid1: Broken/loose dependencies

2009-07-28 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libblkid1
Version: 2.16-2
Severity: serious
Justification: wrong dependencies

Hi,

libblkdi1 has a generated dependency on libuuid1 > 1.40.3-1.

When I compile hal 0.5.13 against libblkid-dev in a minimal chroot, this
installs
libblkid-dev 2.16-2
uuid-dev 1.2-1.41.8-2
libblkid1 1.41.8-2

The build fails:
libtool: link: cc -g -O2 -g -Wall -O2 -Wchar-subscripts
-Wmissing-declarations -Wnested-externs -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align
-Wsign-compare -Wl,--as-needed -o .libs/hald-probe-storage

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[6]: *** [hald-probe-storage] Error 1
make[6]: Leaving directory `/tmp/buildd/hal-0.5.13/hald/linux/probing'

There seem to be a couple of problems here:
* libblkid-dev having an unversioned dependency on uuid-dev
* libblkid1 dependening on libuuid1 > 1.40.3-1, where apparently the old
version from e2fsprogs is *not* sufficient.
My guess is that this is either due to broken symbols files or
dh_shlibdeps not finding the correct symbols/shlibs files from
  debian/

Cheers,
Michael

The correct expression seems to be 's#\/#\\\/#', as shown below:

#!/bin/sh
OS_VERSION="squeeze/sid"
echo ${OS_VERSION} | sed 's/\//\\\//'
OS_VERSION=`echo ${OS_VERSION} | sed 's#\/#\\\/#'`
echo OS_VERSION=$OS_VERSION
OS_VERSION=`echo ${OS_VERSION} | sed 's/\//\\\//'`
echo OS_VERSION=$OS_VERSION

But frankly I have no idea why.. Maybe backticks somehow mess with
escaping.

Also, would you consider to add lsb-release to Build-Depends? Miniupnp
would be able to distinguish Debian and Ubuntu.
I'm not sure for what is OS' version and name used though, I'll try to
get some feedback from Transmission's developer about that.

Bug#539094: r-cran-surveillance: Package FTBFS due to missing build-depends

2009-07-28 Thread Scott Kitterman
Package: r-cran-surveillance

Justification: no longer builds from source

Package needs r-cran-vr and r-cran-colorspace to build from source. I believe
I have svn access to commit the fix and will do so. Ubuntu debdiff attached
(ignore the maintainer changes, the obviously aren't relevant).

Bug#539093: dovecot-common: Should ignore commented lines in /etc/inetd.conf that start with a hostname.

2009-07-28 Thread Philipp Weis
Package: dovecot-common
Version: 1.0.rc15-2etch4
Severity: normal

Dovecot's init.d script tries to avoid starting dovecot if inetd is
configured for dovecot. The regular expression to parse inetd.conf
matches lines that start with # followed by a hostname, but shouldn't.
If no hostname is specified, the behaviour seems to be correct.

Well, that's the "new", broken one. I was talking about the old
(pre-breakage) ia32-libs. It's still in lenny and squeeze (I think), but
not in sid. Though, like I told the guy in the other bug report, getting
it installed may require some downgrading of stuff. (I also mentioned
the schroot package if you desperately need a way to run 32-bit software
before ia32-libs gets fixed.)

This should say "with single precision", which has rather a different
meaning. :)

The description for libode1sp doesn't say anything about single
precision.

Bug#538946: Acknowledgement (Valgrind reports access to freed memory from Boost.Test.)

2009-07-28 Thread Daniel Burrows
I'm not sure I believe my initial diagnosis now. I attempted a
simple recreation of the deletion that seemed to be at the core of
the valgrind errors, and I came up blank -- no errors from either
valgrind or efence.

On the other hand, I don't think this is just a problem with
valgrind, since efence (based on a totally different and much simpler
technique) also flags a problem.

In short, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what's actually going on.
That said, my fix/workaround actually does eliminate the memory errors
that I get...I just haven't figured out why yet. (if I'm feeling
ambitious, maybe I'll give disassembly a shot...)

How bizarre! The problem is only on architectures for which the
package was autobuilt; does not appear in i386, which I built myself,
and does not occur on amd64 when I rebuild on an amd64 myself.

Anyway, thanks for the bug report, will track it down...

Bug#538669: libgtk2.0-0: Cannot compose accents with GTK applications since upgrade to squeeze

2009-07-28 Thread Thomas

Hi,

No problem, here’s a first idea: Please start gedit, open the context
menu in the text editing area and choose the X input method from the
penultimate submenu. Then try to compose some characters and add your
findings to this bugreport.

Gedit installed.
And as expected with X input it works I can do accents but _not_ with

Hmmm...I'm not sure I want to get gbp itself into this. So does this
look correct:

gbp-:
* fetch new upstream tarball
* import it using git-import-orig to branch a

By-Hand:
* munge it

gbp-:
* build a orig.tar.gz from branch a
* import it onto another branch b
* call pristine-tar on b

is that right?

Thanks a lot. The attached patch grabbed from upstream SVN r1729 really
fixes the problem for SVN trunk. Hence I tag this bug as fixed-upstream.

Unfortunately the patch doesn't work for AqBanking 3.6.2, so further
investigation is still needed on how to solve this for Debian Lenny.
I will look into this within the next days.

| Try epdfview, then.

Did. Unfortunately, it was too slow to use remotely.
When the top 2/3 of a page was displayed, for example,
I hit the space bar to see the bottom 1/3 of the page.
It took 5-10 seconds before the rendering was complete.
In the same environment, xpdf takes less than a second.

Evince was as slow as epdfview.

epdfview is an excellent viewer if used
on a local machine.

I'm sorry to hear that. (No, it's not possible

Updated the patch. Also fixed the error message to mention the LocalSocket
config, not the Plugin config. Compiled the package with these modifications,

As surprising as the behavior seems to you, it is the documented
behavior of GNU tar. See this page, for example, which explicitly
mentions \b as an escape sequence that is unquoted by default:

http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/manual/html_section/Selecting-Archive-Members.html

You can get the behavior you would like instead by passing the
--no-unquote option.

I hope that helps,

-Carl

PS. Bdale, for a case like this should I close the bug report by sending
to 483358-done@ ? And should I give it a "Tags: wontfix" or so?

Bug#538975: Quick fix with iptables

2009-07-28 Thread Michael Holzt
As a hint for other sysadmins:

For the time until a fixed debian package is available, this iptables rule
should filter all dnsupdate packets, thus mitigating the attack:

| iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 53 -j DROP -m u32 --u32 '30>>27&0xF=5'

Works for me, but no guaranty. I have added a second rule which logs
said dnsupdate packets and i already got several such packets from the
outside world, so the exploit is clearly in active use and the least you
can do is to try the iptables rule.

Michael

Bug#539091: [libgweather-common] Please enable python bindings

2009-07-28 Thread Julien Lavergne
Package: libgweather-common
Version: 2.26.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Is it possible to enable the python bindings for libgweather ? Looking
at debian/changelog, the reason is that the API is unstable. Well, it's
still true but developers are aware of this instability, because they
need to invoke the module like this :
"from gweather.I_KNOW_THIS_IS_UNSTABLE import gweather"
It's also the case for C code, which need the same kind of #define.

Also, next version of Avant-window-navigator will require this bindings
for one of its applets.

Thanks for considering this.

Regards,
Julien Lavergne

Bug#539090: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Extreme slowness after upgrade from 2.7.1-1

2009-07-28 Thread Dylan Thurston
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.8.0-1
Severity: normal

Certain drawing operations seem to be extremely slow after a recent
upgrade from 2.7.1-1. I notice this in firefox or in okular (KDE's
PDF viewer), but it's most obvious, oddly, in some of the options from
the game 'loopy' from sgt-puzzles, in the settings with lots of
diagonal lines. For instance, 'loopy 9x9t4' takes about 45 seconds to
start; this is new behaviour since the upgrade.

I'm using a 915GM on a HP nc6220 notebook, with a 1400x1050 display.
I set my virtual screen size to 1600x1200 since I sometimes use an
external monitor with that resolution. I notice the slowness whether
or not using the external monitor.

(I'll note that this upgrade did also fix two different display
glitches: in the older versions, text mode used to get corrupted, and
the screen would occasionally flicker momentarily.)

The long option --list-signals works. Thanks for pointing out my rather

Did this error reappear or was it a one-time issue? If not, has it been fixed
with

What's the status? Has this been resolved by more recent kernels or

Hi Dmitry,

Can you still reproduce this bug, and if so, can you give any more
precise steps for doing so? I just attempted the above steps on my
system, (with tar 1.22-1.1), and all symlinks were copied correctly.

We're already using one of the official scripts, in particular we're
using http://www.debian.org/mirror/anonftpsync and we're satisfied with
it. We don't feel the urge to switch to the ftpsync script since it
seems that it won't give us any major benefit comparing to our current
solution. Is it mandatory to use ftpsync to sync our mirror in order to
become an official Debian mirror?

We're now using ftp.pt.debian.org.

Our privacy policy does not contemplate external machines connecting to
our servers using SSH, therefore, we're not considering configuring our
mirror with a push scheme. Nevertheless, we've increased the frequency
of the mirror's syncs so that the mirror gets synced every 6 hours.

Bug#539089: libxdg-basedir: Memory leak even after calling xdgWipeHandle()

2009-07-28 Thread Arnaud Fontaine
Package: libxdg-basedir
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hello,

When running valgrind on my program using libxdg-basedir, it reports the
following memory leak:

==25556== 19 bytes in 1 blocks are definitely lost in loss record 1 of 3
==25556==at 0x402601E: malloc (vg_replace_malloc.c:207)

==25556==by 0x804DF29: main (pcompmgr.c:226)

I guess it's because cacheHome on line 187 (basedir.c) is never freed. I
have attached to this email a patch that works fine for me, e.g.
valgrind is happy with it, but as I'm not so familiar with
libxdg-basedir source code so I might be wrong.

Arnaud Fontaine

The same problem can be reproduced using other software that uses GEOS
as well, e.g. postgresql-8.3-postgis and the operation:

SELECT ST_BUFFER(ST_GEOMFROMTEXT('MULTIPOLYGON (((3375988.599 6680548.657,

The problem has been fixed in upstream GEOS release 3.1.1.

Bug#539008: ITP: telepathy-qt4 -- Telepathy framework - Qt 4 library

That's not the same library (sorry about the naming, I hadn't realised
telepathy-qt was also for Qt 4 when telepathy-qt4 started). This one can be
used as a replacement for both telepathy-qt and tapioca-qt (i.e. low *and*
high level interfaces - the low-level stuff is auto-generated from
telepathy-spec and not very exciting, and all the development effort goes into
wrapping that with high-level APIs like in Tapioca).

It's from the same team as telepathy-glib, using many of the same
design ideas (I'm one of the maintainers of both telepathy-glib and
telepathy-qt4; my co-maintainer on telepathy-qt4 previously worked on Tapioca).

George Grundleborg has blogged about its use in KDE and its advantages over
the combination of telepathy-qt and tapioca-qt:
http://grundleborg.wordpress.com/tag/telepathy/

I'd prefer to maintain it in pkg-telepathy rather than as a Qt/KDE package,
since I don't actually use KDE myself (don't panic, the other maintainers do!),
and the pkg-telepathy team works very closely with Telepathy upstream due to
being basically the same people :-)

The problem is likely that the patching has been wrongly removed: the
build target still depend on patch while there shouldn't be any patch
rule in there... I'll look at it.

Hi,

Both fuser's manpage and -h command line switch report -l as a valid switch,
but it actually doesn't work:

$ fuser -l
fuser: Invalid option l

The long version (--list-signals) does work though.

Cheers,

Bug#539084: rc.local starts too early when used with insserv

2009-07-28 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.87dsf-2
Severity: normal

If I am not mistaken in the next stable release insserv is going to be
activated by default. To provide backward compatibility with the
existing setups which assume that rc.local is run at the last stage of
booting it would be better to change the Required-Start directive to

Required-Start: $all

or use an equivalent.

Here are the two rules I just started using. These messages are of no

While I appreciate your work, I can't apply this patch unfortunately.

this request is not following the request rules as stated in the package's
README.Debian. And anyway sadly Iceweasel in Debian does not yet rely on
ca-certificates. There are plans, however, to fix this within some
timeframe that is yet unknown.

With the attached patch, it will be included (along with other DLLs), but
in the wrong path. Could you confirm moving it to
/usr/lib/gcc/i586-mingw32msvc/4.4.0/ works for you?

You are correct that this issue is sadly undocumented in Debian Java Policy.

However, I feel that comments by Matthias Klose, as uploader of the
java-common source in Debian, in bugs such as
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526273 - specifically
"default-jdk-builddep should be used if the package builds
native code built with gcj." provide adequate justification of the
intent of default-jdk-builddep vs. default-jdk in Debian.

Note that the bug referenced above was part of a mass bug filing:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?users=debian-j...@lists.debian.org&tag=jgc-vdep

Also, the changelog of the java-common version which introduced
default-* packages says: "Build-depending on default-jdk-builddep
ensures a dependency on java-gcj-compat-dev even if the default jdk is
another than java-gcj-compat-dev."

Thanks,
Max.

Bug#539081: DDPO: Inconsistent alphabetical order

2009-07-28 Thread Daniel Moerner
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: minor

Hi,

There is some inconsistency in how qa.debian.org handles packages in
alphabetical order. By default when I load qa.d.o, it seems to order
packages in alphabetical order. However, packages of the name: "X"
have a lower alphabetical order than "X-Y". In my case, pekwm is
listed before pekwm-themes. However, if I actually click on the
"Source Name" tab, it orders the packages in alphabetical order by
source name. This time, it treats "X-Y" packages as alphabetically
lower than "X" packages. So, in my case, pekwm-themes is now listed
before pekwm. This seems like a mistake since it seems like the
default alphabetical order should be the same as explicit alphabetical
order.

Thanks!
Daniel Moerner

I've seen your mail [1] on debian-java regarding choice between default-jdk-
builddep and default-jdk. To my knownledge, your position haven't reached
consensus and is not reflected in Debian Java Policy.

In Debian, default-jdk-builddep package [2] as exactly the same dependency
chain as default-jdk [3] : (gcj-jdk).
On Ubuntu, default-jdk is openjdk-6-jdk and default-jdk-builddep is default-
jdk + gcj-jdk

At the moment, your issue is more a disagrement on Java Policy between Debian
and Ubuntu.

I would prefer to :
- wait for a new Debian Java Policy (after Debconf9 ?)
- resync Debian and Ubuntu Java Policy about default-* packages
- fix Build-Depends on all packages [4]

2009-07-28 Thread Paul LeoNerd Evans
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.15.3.1
Severity: normal

Is there any reason this patch hasn't yet been applied? I'd find a menu
option very useful, rather than the current "break local config by
trashing it with upstream" vs "break the program by not upgrading its
config" choice we currently get. Every time I get such a question I
always hit Z and run

  vimdiff /etc/foo.conf{,.dpkg-new}

anyway, so having a menu option to do that directly would be useful
indeed...

Bug#539080: python-rope: Current version breaks with mercurial 1.3

2009-07-28 Thread Jan Huelsbergen
Package: python-rope
Version: 0.9.2-1
Severity: important

Now that mercurial 1.3 has entered testing, rope fails when trying to
perform any action on a file in a mercurial repository because of the
way mercurial.ui.ui is initialized in

in commit c8f79142ecfa:

Bug#539079: gnome-applets: system monitor applet thinks that ppp0 is some internal link and not classical internet connection

2009-07-28 Thread Jakub Lucký
Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.26.1-1

System monitor applet in my Gnome since upgrade few days or weeks ago doesn't
consider ppp0 as standard internet connection...

It displays some traffic, but in color for "Local" and in on-over window it
displays: "Receiving 0 bytes/s Sending 0 bytes/s"

Seems to be some small regression, though it worked for few last years...

So you mean that it's some kind of library and not a program ?

The description of the package may probably need some changes, then.

Billiards is a free cue sports simulator. It aims for physical accuracy
and simplicity and should hopefully be useful for practicing billiards
on your own and against your friends when a real pool table is not
available. Currently both a pool table and a billiards table (that is
with and without pockets) are implemented allowing you to play
eightball, nineball and carom billiards games.

Shouldn't it be at least a recommends?

Bug#299567: linux-image-2.6.30-1-amd64: Any progress on the vmlinux issue?

2009-07-28 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.30-3
Severity: normal

Hello

Is there any progress with providing vmlinux somewhere?

There was a suggestion to add support for kernel debugging packges into
the kernel build scripts but not turn it on by default so that the large
debug packages are not mirrored from Debian archive.

In my view this is completely pointless because the reason for this report
is that the uncompressed kernel is not provided and there is no way how
the compressed one can be uncompressed. If support for building debug
kernel is included but the package is not build there will still not be
any uncompressed kernel.

It is always possible to build your own kernel and use the vmlinux that
gets built in the process. The problem is that the vmlinux is not
available for the prebuilt kernels so you have to build a new kernel and
reboot, possibly creating a different kernel with different behavior.

Thanks

Michal

Python 2.3 was removed[1] from Debian and it obviously not supported.

Is it too much trouble to supply the missing support layer for 2.3?

I don't know about february 21 of 2008 (when this bug was filed), but
it seems to me you are playing a little fast and loose with your
tenses here :). Waiting a year and a half and then announcing that the
support has disappeared isn't really "fixing bugs".
Sorry you had to wait so long. (Actually, it's not my responsibility to
triage bugs; I just spotted this one by chance.)

And you are right, no bug was fixed, because there is no bug here.

Your reference

[1] http://bugs.debian.org/401407

is to debian UNSTABLE, when 2.3 was retired from THAT set of experimental
packages (in dec 2006).

Okay, here is the full timeline:
- Jan 2007: python2.3 was removed [1] from unstable and testing.
- Apr 2007: etch was released [2] (without python2.3).
- Feb 2008: this report was filed.
- Feb 2009: lenny was released [3] (without python2.3).

[2] http://lists.debian.org/debian-announce/2007/msg2.html
[3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-announce/2009/msg2.html

I maintain servers which are in many cases 10 years old, and going
strong. I don't know which machine this was from - probably my laptop,
serving as a test base - but sure, I can compile python 2.4 for them
(and probably have) but why should I when 2.3 works fine? If one only
have to provide a few support functions missing from 2.3, then shucks,
that's just par for the course in maintaining a piece of application
level code!
Actually, the culprit are not missing functions, but missing language
constructs.

There are codes I wrote twenty years ago for which I am
still providing support and compatibility layers for many different
kinds of support architectures .. one writes a line or two in
configure.in and generates the autoconf output and provides a function
of ones own. That's maintaining!
It's nice of you that you support legacy systems. However, we (Debian)
have enough work with supporting modern ones.

So please give some thought to fixing this - it ought to be a no
brainer for you.
I insist that there nothing to fix here. It you think it's not the case,
feel free to reopen the bug.

Bug#539068: CLIPS 6.30 pre-release available

2009-07-28 Thread Rick L. Vinyard, Jr.
Package: clips
Version: 6.24-3

clipsmm (C++ wrapper for CLIPS) is a project of mine. I have received
several bug reports from both Debian and Ubuntu users reporting that they
cannot compile on their systems.

The problem goes back to missing function contexts in CLIPS, which the
CLIPS project issued a 6.24 patch for.

They have also since moved their code to sourceforge under the clipsrules
project and have been slowly moving toward 6.30. There aren't any
earth-shattering changes, but there are numerous bug fixes.

Since I also maintain the Fedora CLIPS packages, long ago I created a
patch that added autotools support and some other Linux specific fixes
such as tty support via termios instead of sgtty. I've merged those
changes along with the CLIPS trunk and put it into a repository on the
clipsmm project page.

There are two separate tarballs, one for the code and one for the docs.
There are also several other files such as an xclips desktop file, emacs
support scripts (which I believe came from the debian package), a clips
pkgconfig file, etc.

The tarballs are here:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/clipsmm/clips-6.30.0.20090722svn.tar.bz2
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/clipsmm/clips-6.30.0.20090722svn-doc.tar.bz2

I've tried to eliminate any patches in the Fedora rpm specfile by
incorporating everything in the tarballs.

It would be great if the Debian package could move up to the 6.30
pre-release so that those wanting to use clipsmm could without rebuilding
their own clips package.

Bug#539067: bluez: probably typo in udev rule

2009-07-28 Thread arne anka
Package: bluez
Version: 4.42-2
Severity: normal

in /lib/udev/rules.d/62-bluez-hid2hci.rules
there's arle taht should match a csr dongle, defining vendor 0a12 and id
1000. in my fr there's an csr dongle with vendor 0a12 -- but the id is
0001.

# CSR devices (in HID mode)
ACTION=="add", ENV{ID_VENDOR}=="0a12", ENV{ID_MODEL}=="1000"
RUN+="/lib/udev/bluez --method csr -v $env{ID_VENDOR} -p $env{ID_MODEL}
--mode hci"

even the
# CSR devices (in HCI mode)
section uses id 0001.
so, i guess it's just a typo and has to be 0001 everywhere:

# CSR devices (in HID mode)
ACTION=="add", ENV{ID_VENDOR}=="0a12", ENV{ID_MODEL}=="0001"
RUN+="/lib/udev/bluez --method csr -v $env{ID_VENDOR} -p $env{ID_MODEL}

Bug#538017: libaqhbci13: Impossible to print INI-Letter

I see... The method QBanking::print() used to be just an override function for
another print method, and now that that other method is gone we have a
recursion...

I will fix that myself.

Bug#539066: lintian: [checks/shared-libs] misleading message for unknown dash-containing version in symbols file

2009-07-28 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: lintian
Version: 2.2.13
Severity: wishlist

Hi Lintian maintainers,

Debian policy allows version numbers like 4.999.8beta-115-gadbad2d-1
(),
which makes the symbols-file-contains-debian-revision check tricky.
For example, lintian misdiagnoses the problem in the following symbols
file:

liblzma.so.0 liblzma0 #MINVER#
 lzma_alone_deco...@base 4.999.8beta-111-g8f8ec94
 ...

Lintian reports symbols-file-contains-debian-revision. How could it
know otherwise? If no entry in debian/changelog has upstream version
4.999.8beta-111-g8f8ec94, for lack of better options Lintian assumes
the -g8f8ec94 is a Debian revision.

Unfortunately, at least to this naive user, the result suggests that
Lintian would not be happy with any version number with dashes in it.
And that's just not true.

Possible fixes:
 * Provide two separate warnings: one for unknown revisions in symbols
files and another for known Debian revisions in symbols files. Or
maybe even three: unknown but no dash, unknown with dash, and known
with dash (since unknown with no dash is usually not a mistake).
 * Treat revisions with two or more dashes differently from revisions
with only one dash? (This would handle the example just mentioned, but
generally it seems like a bad idea.)
 * Treat packages whose changelogs contain upstream revisions with a
dash differently? (This would handle the example just mentioned, but
generally it seems like an awful idea.)

Thoughts?

Regards,
Jonathan

So there will be no fix for this issue in lenny :-(

Thanks for the info. I will consider migrating to testing.

I was thinking the same. In the past, I had a similar problem, and
hence to solve it, there is a

setlocale(LC_NUMERIC, "C");

call to make sure everything stays in the same system internally.

Starting with gscan2pdf with

LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8 bin/gscan2pdf --debug

should reproduce the problem, but doesn't - I have everything in
German, but I don't get the error message on import.
