Bug#549626: ITP: libvdpau -- Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix
Just so you know, I thought I would help out with the packaging of libvdpau so I've setup the packaging for it. You can find it here. git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-multimedia/libvdpau.git http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-multimedia/libvdpau.git The packaging should be moved somewhere in a git repository maintained by the Debian NVIDIA Maintainers team. Anyway, this packages libvdpau-0.2. This addresses the concerns at [1]. One concern I have is with the trace library, libvdpau_trace.so. If this library is not going to supply any versioning, than this library should reside in a subdirectory in /usr/lib. For example, we could follow the same scheme adopted by pulseaudio, have the trace library installed in /usr/lib/vdpau-0.2/modules. If the library is to be ABI compatible across different revisions, than versioning info should be added to the library instead. 1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/432172 -- Regards, Andres -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#548095: crm114: General update after the debconf review process
Dear Debian maintainer, On Wednesday, September 09, 2009, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a review action on debconf templates for crm114. Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation updates. Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts. Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your development tree as long as they were reported. The attached tarball contains: - debian/changelog with the list of changes - debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions - debian/templates with all the rewritten templates file(s) - debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones) As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here, preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting errors have been corrected. The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control file(s) alone. Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control file(s) of your package as of Wednesday, September 09, 2009. If your package was updated in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not modified such files while the review process was running, remember..:-) It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes. Please notify me of your intents with regards to this. There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to fix this. -- patch.tar.gz Description: Binary data --- crm114.old/debian/crm114.templates 2009-09-05 16:41:17.398218370 +0200 +++ crm114/debian/crm114.templates 2009-09-23 21:12:58.42526 +0200 @@ -1,17 +1,26 @@ +# These templates have been reviewed by the debian-l10n-english +# team +# +# If modifications/additions/rewording are needed, please ask +# debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org for advice. +# +# Even minor modifications require translation updates and such +# changes should be coordinated with translators and reviewers. + Template: crm114/cssupgrade Type: boolean Default: false -_Description: Is it safe to upgrade crm114 now? - crm114 package is going to get upgraded to a new version that cannot read .css - files created by the currently installed crm114 version. There are surely many tiling window managers, which fall into groupable categories (StumpWM/Ratpoison, XMonad, dwm/awesome). Julien has done a great job developing awesome, and it probably deserves its own category separate from dwm. Echinus falls into the final category it seems, being similar to dwm. And it offers a clear advantage: configuration via .Xresources (does any other WM support this?) rather than via recompilation. I think this gives sufficient reason for inclusion. Hi Dne Thu, 15 Oct 2009 22:09:13 +0200 Frank Lichtenheld dj...@debian.org napsal(a): your package failed to build from source. Your build-dependencies are currently not co-installable due to the fact that libreadline6-dev and libreadline5-dev conflict. Strange that my pbuilder did not catch this. Bug#551029: Missing Dependancy on awk
reopen 551029 quit From: Manoj Srivastava sriva...@acm.org This is not abug. awk is a virtually essential package, so no package needs to depend on it. (hint: dpkg will not work unless there is a awk on the disk). While it may be rather uncommon to run across systems that do not have `awk` of some flavor installed, such do occur. The number of packages that explicitly depend on awk tends to suggest that it is not yet officially required to be installed (though I doubt ucf is the only thing that breaks if it is absent). `dpkg` sure seemed to work fine without `awk`, otherwise I imagine this system would have been in trouble when I ran `dpkg --install gawk_...`. Unless/Until Debian officially requires some flavor of awk to be installed, ucf needs it as a dependancy. Otherwise, as I discovered `apt` will happily remove the installed flavor of awk, install ucf and other packages before getting around to installing a different flavor of awk (problematically, if several of those use ucf they can prevent apt from continuing on to installing other packages, such as awk). -- (\___(\___(\__ --= 8-) EHM =-- __/)___/)___/) \BS (| e...@gremlin.m5p.com PGP F6B23DE0 |) / \_CS\ | _ -O #include stddisclaimer.h O- _ | / _/ 2477\___\_|_/DC21 03A0 5D61 985B -PGP- F2BE 6526 ABD2 F6B2\_|_/___/3DE0 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#537372: any news ?
Hi Pietro, Hi, Are there any hopes to make this happen before the end of the summer ? Did you have a bit of time to review my changes ? Is there anything else I can do to make this happen (including asking an NMU from another willing maintaner ) ? Sorry, finally summer is over, and it still isn't done. But I'm now ready to resolve it in any sane way. I'd just like to discuss a few aspects of your suggested changes: - I haven't worked that much with cdbs (usually using quilt for patch management), and even wonder whether we should use cdbs here or just do direct modifications of upstream source. Forward porting that, if a new release of minisat ever happens, won't be that much of a burden. - Is it worth the trouble splitting a package as small as minisat into three of them? I'd rather ship everything within the original package. Let me know what you think and we shall have an upload within a few days. Best, Michael pgpt8XLAR0GtA.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#551118: dpkg-dev: PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR override makes it difficult to compile build-architecture binaries when necessary
On Thu, 15 Oct 2009 21:23:04 +0100 Colin Watson cjwat...@ubuntu.com wrote: Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.15.4 Severity: normal User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu karmic The PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR override introduced for cross-compilation purposes due to #439979 (so courtesy-copying Neil as the reporter of that bug, although ISTR he's trying to reduce his involvement with Emdebian at the moment) has a somewhat awkward consequence. I'm not sure I have a good solution for this right now, but would like to have a bug open for discussion. Day-to-day cross-building for Emdebian has stalled, not just because of my reduced involvement but also because the cross-building system has critical problems and the solution means migrating to a fully operational multiarch - after Squeeze. The system used for Emdebian Crush 1.0 (based on Lenny) had severe limitations (principally in correct handling of build-dependencies) and can take us no further. http://lists.debian.org/debian-embedded/2009/08/msg5.html How will multiarch affect pkg-config? I'm not sure that the detail has been decided yet, so CC:'ing debian-embedded for info. FTR there are other cases that are similar - pango and gtk both build tools that are expected to be run during the build and these tools were simply not built (or at least not executed) in the cross-builds, using Emdebian-specific patches where necessary, causing a loss of functionality. I haven't been able to solve that problem (but there were workarounds for Crush 1.0 that relied on copying the data files from other systems instead of generating new ones. Not ideal.) It's true that setting PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR when cross-compiling makes it a lot easier to build the majority of packages that use pkg-config in simple ways. You ask pkg-config for libraries, it automatically looks them up for the host architecture, and your job's done. PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR was not the complete solution but it did/does do a good job for most packages that use pkg-config. There were still workarounds needed for some packages (using path mangling with gccross) and dbus was one of these packages. Emdebian used a field in the debian/xcontrol file (X-Build-Cross-Libtool=yes) that changed the PATH so that the cross-build always used the right compiler. In effect, this prevented dbus from building or executing the binding-tool using the build compiler and only allowed the host compiler to be seen. http://www.emdebian.org/emdebian/intro.html#gccross i.e. this is a known bug that I haven't been able to solve without a truly horrible hack (much worse than Colin's suggestion) and I fully agree that it is a corner case of the more general solution. Nevertheless, dbus seemed to work at runtime in Emdebian Crush 1.0 - whether that was by design or just because the limited package selection in Emdebian Crush 1.0 simply didn't ask dbus to do much, I wouldn't like to say. Sadly, with the current state of cross-building for Emdebian, it is hard to test fixes until multiarch is at least partially in place. However, consider the case where you need to build a binary for use during the build that needs to link against external build-architecture libraries that should be discovered using pkg-config. An example of this is dbus-glib, which builds a binary (dbus-binding-tool) both for use during its build and to ship in one of its .debs. This binary uses the dbus-1 and gobject-2.0 pkg-config modules, linking against the corresponding libraries. In the cross-compilation case, we clearly need to build this binary twice - but now we need to persuade pkg-config to give us build libraries! I've approached this in a hacky fashion in my experiments by using things like this in configure.ac: DBUS_CFLAGS_FOR_BUILD=`unset PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR; pkg-config --cflags dbus-1` The problem with this is that it's horribly Debian-specific However, the use of PKG_CONFIG_LIBDIR is also Debian-specific (specifically cross-building in Debian specific). Other teams cross-building dbus are likely to be using qemu or other staging methods where at least some of the build is actually achieved on the embedded device or something approaching compatibility with the device. I'm not sure that fixing this upstream would actually make any difference to those who cross-build the upstream dbus using non-Debian methods or staging methods involving things like qemu or builds-on-the-device. The only team trying to cross-build Debian packages using dpkg-dev and not using emulators or requiring access to the device until after the installation tarball has been created, is Emdebian. This is principally because Emdebian seeks to create a binary distribution (i.e. Debian-like) where the packages and the installation image can be prepared independently. (Using staging tends to require that you build all your packages yourself and then build one specific installation from that one build, making all build errors fatal for

Bug#551142: python-kde4-dev: /usr/bin/pykdeuic4 symlink broken
+ Sune Vuorela (Fri, 16 Oct 2009 09:27:55 +0100): Hi dato Hello! I'm not completely sure how pykdeuic is supposed to be used. it seems like for users it doesn't matter. I use it in the same way the regular uic-qt4 is used: you call it at compile time to generate the code that builds up the interface. Since it's Python code, at compile time means when generating the tarball to be released, so that the tarball includes directly the python code in addition to the source. Or it could be at package build time, so that the Debian package surely does. System-config-printer-kde seems to just dynamically load the .ui files on demand by using some from PyQt4 import uic and a bit later class MyClass def __init__() uic.loadUI(path/to/ui/file.ui,self) I see. Well, that requires that uic is installed of the user's machine. Which is normally not the case with C++ uic, but seems to be the case with uic for Qt in Python. (But not for KDE, since it's in the python-kde4-dev package.) I guess there is two possibilities. either remove teh symlink completely or make it point to where pykdeuic4.py now resides. Bug#527265: Strange QLA1040 firmaware load error with 2.6.30 from testing
With the latest testing 2.6.30-2 kernel package, the error disappeared, the firmware loads correctly. Just one question: Is the firmware always needed or can I uninstall the qlogic-firmware package again? Does the controller has an eprom or does it only works with driver-provided firmware? As the firmware does not seem to be loaded correctly, is it really needed? When I first tried the Debian 2.6.30 kernel the kernel locked up when initialising the qlogic driver as I had completely forgotten about the firmware. After installing qlogic-firmware driver it then booted fine. Given I was running a kernel that included the firmware prior to running the Debian kernel that is suggestive that the firmware is reloaded on every boot. Which is strange, because the SRM console and its I/O functions used by aboot also use the SCSI controller to boot the kernel/initrd from my SCSI ZIP disk (the root partition is on a large SATA disk with a SIL controller initialized later from the initrd. Because of that, I think the system would start without a firmware, but /boot and the CD-ROM mounts would be unusable). Maybe the firmware gets lost, when the PCI bus and the device is reset. This is why I asked. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

This renders many options of javahelp2 to be unsuable. It is due to an error in the repack of the javahelp sources. The fix is pretty easy. 1) download upstream archive 2) unpack src.jar inside 3) Copy the missing files cp -R javahelp2-upstream/src/javax/help/plaf/basic/images/ javahelp2-debian-dir/jhMaster/JavaHelp/src/new/javax/help/plaf/basic/ cp -R javahelp2-upstream/src/javax/help/plaf/gtk/images/ javahelp2-debian-dir/jhMaster/JavaHelp/src/new/javax/help/plaf/gtk/ I am not sure if the License for these images is DFSG compatible. The LICENSE.html says Sun Microsystems, Inc. Binary Code License Agreement. I guess they were removed from debian source due to license issues, but may be Marek Slama can clarify about this. OK. I understand. Anyway, an alternative can be to use an other icon set. It is going to be very easy to find remplacement (I can do that if you want). Thanks for the quick answers, Sylvestre IIRC even if javahelp sources was open sourced there was still some files with wrong license. I think we removed them from original sources to create upstream zip. But it is long time ago so I am not sure. Hello, The new packages for TurboGears 1.1 are ready (thanks to Federico Ceratto) at svn://svn.debian.org/python-modules/packages/turbogears/trunk They require the new tgmochikit module packaged (still thanks to Federico Ceratto) at svn://svn.debian.org/python-modules/packages/tgmochikit/trunk tgmochikit has been uploaded but is now waiting in NEW. Bug#425452: klash: The problem persists, and is actually quite serious
Package: klash Version: 0.8.6-1 Severity: normal I just want to point out, that this problem persists, and that it may have become more serious in KDE4. Since switching to KDE 4 I have experienced several times that it is either very time consuming or downright impossible to leave the KDE lock state. In some cases I have had to toggle the power on my computer, as if it was a Windows system :-( It took some time and invistigation to discover the common denominator for these situations: that my Konqueror was displaying a web page with some Flash window in it. My typical case is www.dmi.dk, the weather forecast from Danish Institute of Meteorology; but I guess most Flash ads will have the same effect. Somehow the already high CPU usage of kde4-gnash is irritated by the lock situation to increase its CPU usage to very close to 100%, effective killing the system. I now know how to avoid this situation. But it is a serious quality problem for the distribution, it almost merits a release critical flag. best regards -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_DK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_DK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages klash depends on: ii gnash-common 0.8.6-1free SWF movie player - common fil ii libc6 2.9-27 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.4.1-6 GCC support library ii libqtcore44:4.5.3-3 Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.5.3-3 Qt 4 GUI module ii libstdc++64.4.1-6The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.2.2-1 X11 client-side library klash recommends no packages. klash suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#551171: tmpreaper: debconf security question not accurate anymore
Package: tmpreaper Version: 1.6.10 Severity: minor Hi, Installing tmpreaper gives you the debconf question about security. The action to take is not entirely accurate anymore: If after that you still want tmpreaper to run, please edit /etc/tmpreaper.conf and remove the line: . echo Please read /usr/share/doc/tmpreaper/README.security.gz first.; exit 0 This should probably now read: If after that you still want tmpreaper to run, please edit /etc/tmpreaper.conf and set SHOWWARNING to false. Also, you may consider to remove the other debconf templates in the package: readsecurity_upgrading, confignowexists, TMPREAPER_TIME. They only trigger on very old upgrades (pre-oldstable even), so will not be triggered anymore. Removing them is an advantage to translators which will only have to translate a quarter of what they have to do now for this package. thanks, Thijs -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages tmpreaper depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.24 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.7-18 GNU C Library: Shared libraries tmpreaper recommends no packages. tmpreaper suggests no packages. -- debconf information: * tmpreaper/readsecurity: * tmpreaper/TMPREAPER_TIME: * tmpreaper/confignowexists: * tmpreaper/readsecurity_upgrading: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Unlike some programs that are designed to deal with a single topic (like fixing VBR headers or adding cover art), MP3 Diags is a one stop solution that identifies more than 50 different issues in MP3 files and provides the means to fix many of them. . Bug#550861: Old MRL triggers bad behavior
Dominique Dumont wrote: This MRL causes trouble: xvdr://127.0.0.1#nocache;demux:mpeg_block Removing the demux:mpeg_block option solves the problem. Note that this old MRL worked with older xvdr and older vdr (1.6.0-11). The demux:mpeg_block option is indeed deprecated, because xineliboutput now comes with its own demuxer (xvdr). Bug#550825: [safe-rm] Unable to upgrade perl (Postinst scripts fail screaming in pain :) )
reassing 550825 safe-rm thanks Hi there, I am sorry if my previous bug report was a bit (a lot) written in panic. I now realize it lacked information. Try apt-get install -f -o APT::Immediate-Configure=0 See my email to apt bug #548858 for some details about this option and why it is needed. (note the 5 instead of the 4) It was while running this command that I got more input and realized that it was safe-rm (a perl script that substitutes /usr/bin/rm) that was making all my post-inst scripts to fail. So your answer was truly helpful. I am reassigning it now, as it has nothing to do with apt, dpkg, circular pre-dependencies or such deep, complicated things :) It was just a simple perl script complaining (pasting here for the safe-rm maintainer) about not finding English.pm during the upgrade: ~-r...@ioapt-get install -f -o APT::Immediate-Configure=0 Reading package lists... Unfortunately, JS_SetBranchCallback was removed for some reason in version 1.9. Upstream seams dead and ships its own copy of libjs so it won't be affected. And, btw, ubuntu version FTBFS also here. Bug#551189: meld fails if the user has another version of python on their PATH
Package: meld Version: 1.1.5.1-2 Severity: normal Is there a reason that the shebang line for /usr/bin/meld uses /bin/env python, rather than /usr/bin/python? Using /bin/env causes the program to fail if the user has another version of python somewhere earlier on their path, if that version of python doesn't happen to have pygtk built. Since you're already depending on a local python being installed, presumably it should simply use /usr/bin/python? Bug#540083: Is anyone taking care of this package?
Excerpts from Michael Tautschnig's message of Tue Sep 15 16:57:26 +0200 2009: Yes, there are people caring about this package. Building the binary packages, however, is a fairly large burden for your buildds, therefore we try to keep the number of uploads low. I will try to see which other patches are supposed to make it into the next upload and try to come up with a new version at the beginning of October (any time sooner is not terribly realistic as I'm loaded with real-life work). At last! :-) I will keep an eye on the news about this package. There is no hurry. I sent another comment because I was afraid the package was orphaned or something. By the way, I am interested in helping with this package. I am familiar with Debian, although I think that all the maintainer/developer stuff have slightly changed in the last months. Anyway, if I can be of help, let me know. I'm currently trying to build a new package with swi-prolog bindings. If it all works fine, it will sit in NEW queue sometime today or tomorrow. If you want to help, you should probably start with subscribing yourself to the PTS page of the ppl package and just step up once it is time to package the next release. But gnupg declares this dependency explicitly in debian/control. So I'm not sure what you expect from gnupg with this bug. Can you please clarify? I do not expect much. There was a bug against debootstrap and I reassing it to gnupg. Probably you can not do much, maybe ask to migrate dpkg. Feel free to close the bug. Sorry for the noise.
