Bug#553423: ferm: negation missing for mod owner matches

2009-10-30 Thread Rob Leslie
Package: ferm
Version: 2.0.3-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The uid-owner match (from mod owner) is supposed to accept negations, but
ferm is unaware of them, resulting in a 'negation is not allowed here'
error message.

The attached patch at least partially corrects this problem.

Bug#553425: RFA: vm -- A mail user agent for Emacs.

2009-10-30 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the vm package.

The package description is:
VM (View Mail) is an Emacs subsystem that allows UNIX mail to be read
and disposed of within Emacs. Commands exist to do the normal things
expected of a mail user agent, such as generating replies, saving
messages to folders, deleting messages and so on. There are other
more advanced commands that do tasks like bursting and creating
digests, message forwarding, and organizing message presentation
according to various criteria. With smtpmail in modern emacsen, you do
not need an MTA locally in order to use VM.
 .
This package does not cater to XEmacs, since vm comes (by default)
 bundled in with XEmacs.

Upstream for this package seems to be dead again, and the issues
facing this package are getting to the point that I can't spend the
time it needs; my interests seem to be drifting away from this package
(I am more and more using IMAP and gnu, these days).

Bug#553424: RM: sfc -- ROM; included in linux-2.6 package

2009-10-30 Thread Ben Hutchings
Package: ftp.debian.org

sfc has been included in Linux since v2.6.26. Although the
out-of-tree driver has a few extra features it is probably not worth
having a separate package. Also the current package is long out of
date.

I don't know anything about Crush; I didn't realize I wasn't supposed
to use busybox on normal Debian systems. I see you're right, the
busybox package description tells me not to (although it doesn't say
WHY not...)

If you want to make a system of multiple machines does not recommend
the use of NSS and network access to NSS for *authentication* at all (it
does not matter libnss-pgsql2 or another module)

Otherwise, in this case the attacker by breaking one of the machines to
obtain root permission will be able to immediately take all logins and
passwords hashes from your NSS DB.

NSS can be used for authorization but not for authentication. Use PAM
instread it.

Yes, I have a more 'aww shucks' attitude when it comes to versioning of

Bug#553421: rebuildd: Manual doesn't appear to list all options

Hi,
I notice there is a discrepancy between the help output of rebuildd-job

Since I've just written a wrapper script to mash quinn-diff output into
the standard job format I was slightly supprised to see this.

If rebuildd is maintained in a vcs I'm happy to make a patch to the man
page.

Bug#553420: debian-policy: Please clarify what is the interface for building binary packages.

2009-10-30 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.8.3.0
Severity: normal

Dear Policy delegates,

there is currently a discussion on debian-de...@lists.debian.org with a strong
disagreement on what the Policy specifies for building binary packages, and
what it should specify.

http://lists.debian.org/msgid-search/4ae85d08.1050...@e-tobi.net
(I can prepare a summary if there is interest for this).

In a first step, I think that it would be very helpful to clarify what is the
build interface as of Policy 3.8.3. Currently the Policy specifies what the
debian/rules file is, gives a special role to dpkg-buildpackage, and the build
interface is extrapolated with conflicting interpretation among the developers.

In a second step, I propose to go forward and open the possibility of an
evolution of the constraints on the format of the debian/rules file, according
to the consensus on what the build interface should be (which can be different
from what it is as of version 3.8.3). This part is not independant from the
discussion whether debian/rules should be callable interactively with no
special environment variable set, or if dpkg-buildpackage should be the
canonical tool for this usage.

Have a nice week-end,

Some explanation: I switched to fingerprint authentication for normal
user, and it seems that using that does not unlock the login
keyring for gnome-keyring.

As soon as I disable fingerprint login (changing /etc/pam.d/gdm to its
previous state it works.

The point is that there is NO way gnome-keyring should interfere with
subversion, and I don't see why it is doing that.

I reassigned it to mutter, as I foudn out gnome-session decided
to use mutter instead of metacity at some point (without asking me)
and mutter has so many bugs.

I had to purge mutter from my computer to get gnome-session using metacity
again. Now also another bug (crash of gnome-settings-daemon is gone 553000).
So I guess most of the problems came from switching to mutter. I cloned
that bug and reassigned it to gnome-session.

This is a nice feature to have, sure. Unfortunately, upstream
seems to have disappeared, and this is fairly low on my TODO --
 patches happily accepted.

Bug#553416: libpam-opie: Adding support for pam-auth-update

2009-10-30 Thread Frédéric Brière
Package: libpam-opie
Version: 0.21-8+fbriere+1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Here's a patch that adds pam-auth-update support to libpam-opie. (I'm
CCing Steve Langasek so that he can tell me if I made a mistake. I'm
especially unsure about the Priority argument.)

I'm a wee bit tempted to raise this bug above wishlist, as the README
instructions are a little dangerous, in that they suggest wedging
pam_opie in between pam_unix and pam_deny. On a modern default Debian
setup, common-auth now looks like this:

  auth[success=1 default=ignore]  pam_unix.so nullok_secure
  authrequisite pam_deny.so

You can guess what happens when someone blindly shoves pam_opie in
there. (No, not me. I'd never do something as silly, especially not
on the road, locking myself out until I get back home. Why'd you ask?
)

To make it easier to use cut to select the desired fields, it is useful
to have the field numbers in the documentation. The attached patch does
this.

Hi,

When I upgrade grub-common and grub-pc on my MacBook Pro to 1.97-1 and
reboot, the system halts after printing "GRUB". The system booted
successfully before upgrading from 1.97~beta4-1 and booted
successfully again after downgrading to 1.97~beta3-1 (I couldn't find
1.97~beta4-1 at the time).

Bug#553412: [imapsync] Crashes upon prompting for password on Squeeze

2009-10-30 Thread Adrian Glaubitz
Package: imapsync
Version: 1.286+dfsg-3
Severity: important

imapsync bails out upon prompting for the password for server login. This
is a regression as imapsync works flawlessly on Debian Lenny with otherwise
identical conditions. The output on Squeeze is as follows:

glaub...@z6:~> imapsync --ssl1 --authmech1 LOGIN --host1
mail.zedat.fu-berlin.de --user1 foo --ssl2 --authmech2 LOGIN --host2
mail.zedat.fu-berl

I tried debugging the code a bit but I am not really into Perl so I couldn't
find
anything obvious. The version of "libterm-readkey-perl" hasn't changed from

Bug#553410: missing libgdcmDICT.so.2.0 and libgdcmcharls.so.2.0

2009-10-30 Thread Dominique Belhachemi
Package: gdcm
Version: 2.0.13-1
Severity: normal

Hi Mathieu,

libgdcm2-dev contains following files:

   245768 2009-10-28 19:12 /usr/lib/libgdcmcharls.so
   938280 2009-10-28 19:12 /usr/lib/libgdcmDICT.so

But it might be better to use symbolic links to
   /usr/lib/libgdcmcharls.so.2.0
   /usr/lib/libgdcmDICT.so.2.0
and from there to
   /usr/lib/libgdcmcharls.so.2.0.13
   /usr/lib/libgdcmDICT.so.2.0.13

The current situation can cause some linker problems:
   $ ldd /usr/lib/libITKIO.so
linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xb7fc2000)
[...]
libgdcmDICT.so.2.0 => not found
libgdcmIOD.so.2.0 => /usr/lib/libgdcmIOD.so.2.0 (0xb7b45000)

Cheers
Dominique

Bug#553411: SSVNC's SSL support should not be disabled by default.

2009-10-30 Thread Karl J. Runge
Package: ssvnc
Version: 1.0.23-1
Severity: normal

The debian ssvnc package puts 'stunnel4' on its recommends list instead
of its depends list.

This leads to a situation that confuses nearly all users that start up
the SSVNC encryption gui (i.e. the main 'ssvnc' command), namely that
SSVNC's default mode of encryption is SSL and all of its documentation
assumes that SSL is it not disabled.

However, if a user tries to make an SSL connection (e.g. to GNOME desktop
vino) he will quickly find that it fails right away because the stunnel
command is not found. It will likely not be clear to them how to get
encryption to work.

Any VNC server supporting normal SSL (e.g. x11vnc -ssl or a server using
an SSL tunnel tool) or any VNC server supporting VeNCrypt or Anon TLS
could be directly connected to by SSVNC if only 'stunnel4' were installed.

Many server support these SSL modes, and the number is increasing:

VeNCrypt: QEMU, Xen, ggi, libvirt, virt-manager
Anon TLS: vino

I request that these two debian packages:

stunnel4
openssl

be placed on ssvnc's depends list so that SSL/TLS connections to the
above VNC servers and others is enabled by default.

Thank you,

Karl Runge

Bug#553409: freeglut: FTBFS on hurd-i386: unused variable counted as error

2009-10-30 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: freeglut
Version: 2.4.0-8
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd

Hi,

freeglut does not compile on GNU/Hurd with the following error log (wrapped
in multiple lines for readability):

> i486-gnu-gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I../include -Wall -g -O2 -g \
> -Wall -pedantic -Werror -MT libglut_la-freeglut_joystick.lo -MD -MP -MF \

> freeglut_joystick.c: In function 'fghJoystickOpen':
> freeglut_joystick.c:1040: warning: unused variable 'i'
> make[3]: *** [libglut_la-freeglut_joystick.lo] Error 1

This is because there is the 'int i' declaration at the top of the function,
used for any OS, but there is no Hurd-specific block which uses it;
the proposed patch just initializes 'i', so it is considered used for every OS.
Hopefully should not harm every other OS.

Thanks,

Don't know but when I look at the line

gcc -o .libs/radeapclient .libs/radeapclient.o libeap/.libs/libfreeradius-
eap.so -lnsl -lresolv -lpthread -lssl -lcrypto -Wl,-rpath -

i see that a executable and not a library is comiled. This means that all
symbols must be resolved. If it is not the case and libtool prints something
else what it doesn't do then please reassign it to binutils-gold/libtool with
further information.

Best regards,
Peter

Do you want help? I copied the debian/ directory from your 2.1.0-1 into a
2.2.0 source tree and it builds fine. Adding

  usr/lib/pkgconfig/*

to debian/libprotobuf-dev.install even adds the two new pkg-config files.

Looks to be lintian-clean and fine from casual inspection. I can prepare an
NMU if you want.

Bug#553407: gridengine-exec: Init.d script does not detect running daemon

2009-10-30 Thread Michael Hanke
Package: gridengine-exec
Version: 6.2-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The init.d script does not detect a running daemon and therefore tries
to start another sge_execd instance when rerun with 'start'. That
naturally causes problems, since the relevant port is already occupied
and such scenario is not supported anyway.

The reason is that start-stop-daemon fails to detect the running
instance of 'sge_execd' when using the wrapper script at
usr/sbin/sge_execd' for testing. The attached patch is one way to fix it
(by using the proper binary at /usr/lib/gridengine/sge_execd for
testing.

Bug#552160: Mouse button 2 and 3 not working anymore

2009-10-30 Thread Eugen Dedu
Hi,

Sorry for the delay, I forgot to subscribe to the bug...

With 2.26.1, /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/tap_to_click does not
exist. With 2.28.1-1, it exists and was set to false. I set it to
true, and 2/3 button mouse clicking works, thanks!

However, now I have another strange problem: pressing with 2 fingers is
now the right button, while before it was the wheel button. The same
thing when taping with 3 fingers (now it's bound to wheel, instead of
right mouse button).

I have rebooted the computer, still the same wrong result.

Here is some result with the new g.s.d.:
snoopy:~$ synclient -l|grep TapBut
TapButton1  = 1
TapButton2  = 3
TapButton3  = 2

Still, this is curious, because I have in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
snoopy:~$ grep TapBut /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Option "TapButton1""1"
Option "TapButton2""2"
Option "TapButton3""3"

Also, changing manually the buttons:
snoopy:~$ synclient TapButton2=2
snoopy:~$ synclient TapButton3=3
does not change anything :o(

In fact, it seems that the TapButton[1-3] synaptics config options are
not taken into account anymore, because even if I change them in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, this does not change anything either :o(

Do you know what happens? xserver-xorg-input-synaptics has not changed
since June...

If you're not using lenny, perhaps you want to install the more
up-to-date wine-unstable instead. In any case, this is one of several
fixes I plan to backport to the stable 1.0 package sometime (this was
bug #535097), but probably won't happen before squeeze is getting close

Navigating in a file manager to the area /usr/share/xfce4/doc/C I can

Bug#553404: cups: n-up printing incorrect

2009-10-30 Thread Boris Barbour
Package: cups
Version: 1.3.11-1+b1
Severity: normal

n-up printing does not work correctly. Use of the -o number-up=2 option
(with the lpr command) causes two pages of the original document to be
printed in half the output sheet (as if n-up=4 had been chosen). If I use
-o number-up=4, the 4 pages are printed squashed into a quarter of the
sheet. From okular (where I first discovered the bug), if I change the page
order (from default LRTB to BTLR) 2-up printing then causes two full sheets
of paper with the original pages sizes to be printed. Changing to landscape
does not solve the problem in okular at least.

Mmmh, I guess that some user-defined filter could be implemented, even
though I would not feel terribly safe, if apt-listbugs were instructed
to automatically ignore bugs that match a given regular expression,
without letting me see them.

Anyway, frankly speaking, I am not able to estimate when I (or Ryan,
the other apt-listbugs co-maintainer) will find the time to implement
this feature...

In the meanwhile, you can manually ignore bugs with the "i "
command at the "Are you sure you want to install/upgrade the above
packages?" prompt, as you probably already know.

package: python2.5
severity: important
tags: security

hi,

the python packages embed some other libraries (zlib, pysqlite, and
expat for sure so far). this makes security updates complicated and
potentially error-prone. please update python to dynamically link to
these libraries. thanks.

Bug#553109: guile-gnutls: postinst-must-call-ldconfig /usr/lib/libguile-gnutls-v-1.so.0.0.0 by the dynamic library loader. Therefore, the package must call "ldconfig" in its postinst script.

In the alpha 1.9 series you can install them to "extensiondir". From
NEWS:

** Dynamically loadable extensions may be placed in a Guile-specific path

Before, Guile only searched the system library paths for extensions
(e.g. /usr/lib), which meant that the names of Guile extensions had to
be globally unique. Installing them to a Guile-specific extensions
directory is cleaner. Use `pkg-config --variable=extensionsdir
guile-2.0' to get the location of the extensions directory.

I think the balance goes for parallel installation -- that is,
installing in guile-specific directories. However we do support
dynamically loaded extensions in $libdir as well, for backwards
compatibility. Also I'm not sure it's portable to have a shared module
and be able to link to it.

Bug#553402: vm: vm-mime-encode-headers may mess up recipient addresses

2009-10-30 Thread Francois Fleuret
Package: vm
Version: 8.0.9-4
Severity: important

Dear maintainer,

When using recipients with full names containing accents, the encoding
done by vm-mime-encode-headers can produce incorrect addresses if a
space is missing after a comma. For instance:

 To: b...@something.com,François Fleuret

calling vm-mime-encode-headers produces

 To: =?iso-8859-1?q?b...@something.com,Fran=E7ois?= Fleuret

Hence the first address is not valid anymore. This does not happen if
the space is present.

Bug#549312: run with apt 0.7.23.1

2009-10-30 Thread ael
I have now solved the problems with getting apt-0.7.23.1 installed
and ran an apt-get install file command with the file under /dvd
(which was a loop mounted jigdo dvd iso image).

The short version was
1) no segfault; but
2) apt-get (or rather dpkg) failed to find files.

In fact, just the same as the most recent versions.

The long version:

I'm the one that have provided the set of italian voices that are currently
included in debian distribution.
Since that set is very old (like for 1.2 Asterisk release), some time ago I've
produced a new set for 1.4.x (for 1.6 sounds seems that are the same of 1.4.15,
at least at the time I prepared the set).
Sets can be found here:
http://www.voip.ammdomus.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=3&Itemid=4
and are provided in 4 formats (gsm, alaw, sln16 and wav).
Feel free to contact me for any info you need.
Hope in this occasion the package header will have a better description, the
current one is a "fuzzy" italian collage of not very pertinent phrases.
Following what I can read in the -es package, you could write:

Bug#553109: guile-gnutls: postinst-must-call-ldconfig /usr/lib/libguile-gnutls-v-1.so.0.0.0 by the dynamic library loader. Therefore, the package must call "ldconfig" in its postinst script.

2009-10-30 Thread Neil Jerram
Ludo / Andy,

Is it still the case that we recommend guile extensions to be installed
as normal libraries in /usr/lib, as opposed to some guile-specific
place? I think you were recently discussing this, and I'm afraid I
didn't pay complete attention.

(Historically this has cropped up several times. Marius favoured
/usr/lib on the grounds that it could make sense for some application to
use a Guile extension library just like a normal C library
(i.e. application coded in C, linking at build time to the extension
library and to libguile). But on the other hand the advantage of
somewhere like /usr/lib/guile-1.8 is that it makes it easier to handle
parallel installation, and corresponding correct version numbering,
without having to have .so names that have both libguile and extension
version numbers in.

My view on this is not very strong, but is that by sticking to /usr/lib
we do seem to be sailing against the wind (cf. other scripting
languages); and also that the normal C library argument feels unlikely
in practice.)

Please see email below, and the debian bug, for the complete context of
this.

Regards,
Neil

Not that I still have any hope of convincing you people, but as I already
demonstrated with my example code (all pointers have the same binary
representation and my example aliases pointers-to-pointers), and as stated
in the standard's strict aliasing rules, two types having the same binary
representation does not exempt them from the strict aliasing rules.

Bug#553392: 'hugin' received an X Window System error

2009-10-30 Thread Phil
Package: hugin
Version: 2009.2.0+dfsg-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

When I launch hugin, the splashscreen appears and the application crashes with
the following error message:

The program 'hugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.
  (Details: serial 786 error_code 1 request_code 135 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I have tried to compiled the code from source but I have the same error.

Any idea?

Cheers,

Phil

No, because it is building on the previous tests. The point of the test
is:

  - we already have 'file' tracked and in gitignore (from previous
tests in the series)
  - we add other-file to have some other file which is tracked but not
in gitignore
  - we check the output of "ls-files -i" to make sure that "file" is
there, but "other-file" is not

rad_send and most of the others are symbols defined in the radius
binary that dlopens these modules. Does gold not know how to build
dlopenable modules with symbol references in the main binary?

Do that fit? shouldn't it be "test_cmp other-file output"? "git ls-files
- -i --exclude-standard" should show the files in the index that are also
in the exclude list. And you only add other-file to the index. And
shouldn't there be also a "echo other-file > .gitignore"?

This was explained in the mailing list. Apologies for not CCing the bug.

Patches to upstream were submitted, but they are not going to be applied.
Basically, the use of the mp4ff stuff from faad2 is discouraged by upstream.
You
may read for yourself at [1].

So in Debian, it's been decided not to ship any of the mp4ff libraries or
headers at all. You should consider using ffmpeg or mp4v2 if it's your code.

Hi,

Sure, this is possible - they're just connection parameters to a
database call, after all. Basically, you want to create a seperate
/etc/nss-pgsql-root.conf with different connection parameters than the
regular /etc/nss-pgsql.conf. In postgres itself, the non-privileged
user should have read only access to your passwd, group and passwd-group
map tables. The 'root' user (whatever name you choose to give it)
should have read only access to the shadow table. These are standard
GRANT options in postgres speak.

In pg_hba.conf, the non-privileged user is granted access with trust,
the privileged user is granted access with md5 or whatever other password
mechanism you like. On the local filesystem, you protect the shadow
credentials in /etc/nss-pgsql-root.conf by making the file mode 0600
root:root. The non-privileged file of course has to be world read only,
so 0444 as a minimum.

Cheers,

I've never understood the use of "ls-files -i" without -o, so in that
sense, I have done 2. myself already long time ago.

In other words, I do not really care that much, and the choice would be
between "0. do not do anything---the patch in question was a bugfix for
longstanding insanity" and your "4. -i without -o didn't make much sense
but now it does and here is the new meaning".

I think that most people who are searching for something in a man page,
as opposed to reading the whole thing, will not care about order.

What were you doing when this happened?

Anything worth noting about your environment? Proprietary X drivers? Are
you using the epkowa backend with non-free plugin?

Thanks,

JB.

There is some misunderstanding.

While you answered to thios bug the 1st time, you asked me to try an
official Debian kernel.

I answered:

I've installed it:
[jean-...@tangerine] % uname -a
Linux tangerine 2.6.30-2-amd64 #1 SMP Fri Sep 25 22:16:56 UTC 2009
x86_64 GNU/Linux

... and I got the same problem.

This ia an official Debian package (X86_84), I've never used a 32
architecture on this machine.

And what I said is that, with this – official – kernel, I've the same
problem: machine (or display freeze) on some OpenGL stream.

Then, I've tested with an ATI 9500 Pro (R300) and, even if I have some
rendering problems, I've no freeze.

Then, when you asked me which kernel. I was thinking "latet kernel
without problem with OpenGL".

Regards

Jean-Luc

Aha, now I get it, the "test_cmp" do check the _content_ of the file
expect and not the file expect itself.

Ps. Uh, oh, maybe I should truncate the Cc ;-) Ok, hoping that is ok so

In general, no objections from my side. The only thing that speaks
against is that 0.95.3 is now out, and I'd prefer to focus some effort
on that release if possible.

I am not sure; my head spins when I see "tracked but ignored" (you have
a new one in the test) which is quite a bogus concept.

Does it mean "tracked but would be ignored if it weren't---perhaps it was

Bug#477060: [gNewSense-users] Re: unclear licence of AMSLatex (fwd)

2009-10-30 Thread Sam Geeraerts

Benedikt Ahrens schreef:

hello,

the AMS has decided to publish amslatex under LPPL. see david jones'
message on the bottom.

this concerns future releases only. is this ok for gns? can we keep the
current package even if it isn't covered legally by this license?

Thanks for following up on this.

Do they say which version of LPPL they're going to use? Both 1.2 and
1.3a are free software licenses, but according to the FSF license list
[1] 1.2 can have additional restrictions that make some files non-free.

Would they agree to retroactively add the same license to (recent)
earlier versions (including the one in gNS 2.x), so that those versions
become dual-licensed? Even just a short public statement that's not
(necessarily) legally binding would make me much more comfortable about
keeping the package in gNS.

As for changing names of modified files: I think Debian has some
infrastructure to handle all that and all TeX packages have been treated
as if they were under LPPL, so that won't be a problem. The only change
we should have to make is to refer to the public statement.

Well, yes. For two reasons: Transitive dependencies are
deprecated since the intermediate packages in the chain might in the
future remove dependencies, and secondly, what else are you missing by
 not running dpkg-shlibdeps?

Here it is. I think this is the right thing to do. Junio?

-- >8 --
Subject: [PATCH] ls-files: unbreak "ls-files -i"

Commit b5227d8 changed the behavior of "ls-files" with
respect to includes, but accidentally broke the "-i" option
The original behavior was:

  1. if no "-i" is given, cull all results according to --exclude*
  2. if "-i" is given, show the inverse of (1)

The broken behavior was:

  1. if no "-i" is given:
 a. for "-o", cull results according to --exclude*
 b. for index files, always show all
  2. if "-i" is given:
 a. for "-o", shows the inverse of (1a)
 b. for index files, always show all

The fixed behavior keeps the new (1b) behavior introduced
by b5227d8, but fixes the (2b) behavior to show only ignored
files, not all files.

This patch also tweaks the documentation. The original text
was somewhat obscure in the first place, but it is also now
inaccurate (the relationship between (1b) and (2b) is not
quite a "reverse").

I found http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=98907. Marking

That also means that it reportedly is a bit better in 3.2 (please confirm)
but it's not completely fixed yet.

Almost a decade ago, when I created the build-essential package, it had a
verbatim list. The dependencies were generated from that list.

I don't know the current situation (having passed b-e on years ago), but I
suspect it hasn't changed much.

I never heard of it before.

I don't know to which regulations / guidelines you refer by 'valid',
(the RFCs?) but I *think* "(no subject)" is valid, as in, it's not empty.

And yes, forgetting these things happens, thanks for pointing that out.

To me, this absolutely renders calc *unusable* for large plotting and
graphing purposes. They take at least 3-5 times longer, I've as a
temporary solution done my graphing on a virtual windows in OOo.

That being said, please read on.

So, I was using Cairo (Hardwarebeschleunigung), but unchecking this
didn't change anything. Whereas unchecking the button below, "Use
Antialising", almost resolves the issue. Nice and smooth afterwards. But
since that obviously isn't the root cause of the problem, I've done what
you suggested and here are my results:

vanilla .deb from OOo, Version 3.1.1 for Linux x86_64: Same problem,
after enabling Antialising. But, and probably worth mentioning:
Antialising is disabled by default, as opposed to the debian standard.

Vanilla .deb from OOo, Version 320_m2_3.2_beta_LinuxX86_64: I couldn't
get the Beta to work. It complained about missing dependencies to core0X
files, which weren't included in the download, not even after
downloading a second time

The alphabetical order is what is preferrable. It helps locating
opptions much faster when the direction of search is predictable. Like
when seen in scripts and web pages, forum posts.

Bug#553385: [pkg-config] Add Requires for Include-only

2009-10-30 Thread Peter Fritzsche
Package: pkg-config
Version: 0.22-1
Severity: normal

There are different libraries which uses glib2.0 for data definition and
internal. This means that they add glib2.0 to their required, but don't need
the glib2.0 for linking. It -lglib2.0 will be added and they would link
against it without really needing it. dpkg-shlibdeps will then print something
like

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: dependency on libglib-2.0.so.0 could be avoided if
"debian/libxyz/usr/lib/libxyz.so.1.2.3.4" were not uselessly linked against it
(they use none of its symbols).

So the .pc of the package must be able to say "I want the Cflags stuff, but
not the Libs stuff" without duplicating the effort in glib-2.0.pc

Bug#553296: gitignore broken completely

I think your reasoning is a little bit circular. They are not actually
broken with respect to git. But they might represent an error on the
part of the programmer, and one which they would want to investigate.
You could also catch it by looking at diffs ("why is this file in my
diff, it is supposed to be ignored"), but I am not opposed to accessing
the information via git-ls-files (and I think you are right that the
query cannot be easily done any other way).

I think that is basically equivalent to (1). There is already a way for
callers to avoid the bug, which is not to provide --exclude* at all. So
you are already setting that one bit of information in whether or not
you provide any excludes.

Yeah, that would actually be the least invasive change, and would keep
"-i" just as it is. If we do anything except a simple, I think your (6)
makes the most sense.

Let me see if I can make a patch.

Bug#542270: ldm doesn't read /etc/profile

> When I login using ldm, my /etc/profile isn't read. I need to make my

for some reason, commands given to ssh (such as ldm calling Xsession)
are exec'd in a shell that reads in /etc/bash.bashrc and ~/.bashrc

it seems the python ldm would run the command '/bin/bash --login ...',
so /etc/profile would be read *as well*

I think this was a bug that got fixed, but of course one needs to adjust
one's local configuration

Bug#553384: fcheck should CFInclude fcheck.cfg.local

2009-10-30 Thread JP Vossen

Package: fcheck
Version: all
Severity: wishlist

Goal:
fcheck should CFInclude either an /etc/fcheck/fcheck.cfg.local file
and/or /etc/fcheck/cfg.d (possibly overkill) to facilitate local and/or
package customization. For examples, see /etc/bind/named.conf.local or
/etc/cron.d.

Problem:
In order to make local changes to fcheck, right now you need to edit
/etc/fcheck/fcheck.cfg, which then causes conflicts on upgrades, since
you've modified the stock config.

Adding a "CFInclude = /etc/fcheck/fcheck.cfg.local" at the end of
/etc/fcheck/fcheck.cfg would allow the admin to make local changes
without changing the stock config and causing conflicts later.

I'm not sure that fcheck would actually support a /etc/fcheck/cfg.d
directory, nor am I really sure it's needed. But if you build it, maybe
packages will use it...
