Bug#560134: edos-builddebcheck: needs option to explain solution

2009-12-08 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: edos-distcheck
Version: 1.4.2-5
Severity: wishlist

edos-builddebcheck should have an option to output a solution (installation
set) in case the build-dependencies are installable. That would help to
understand cases where packages FTBFS due to apt not being able to
install build-dependencies.

The most probable explanation is indeed that apt does not find a solution
since it is incomplete (it does not try to install older versions of
a package when a newer version is available). As long as apt is incomplete
we may always have false positives of this kind.

Anyway, I'll have a look. For that, edos-builddebcheck should have an
option to display the solution in case installability is reported
(I'll open a wishlist bug for that).

Cheers -Ralf.

Why do you think this connection failure is due to a problem in
libdbd-sybase-perl? The protocol logic is all in the freetds libraries.

What did you do? (did you just load the page?)

Do you have one of the cookie_lifetime declared in one of the wiki
configuration files (/etc/moin/*)?
If you do, can you disable it
If you don't, can you enable, with "cookie_lifetime = (0,12)"

Note that cookie_lifetime must be a tuple, see
 http://moinmo.in/HelpOnSessions#Session_related_configuration

Bug#560130: gnome-keybinding-properties: numerous UI bugs when adding custom shortcuts

2009-12-08 Thread Aaron Barany
Package: gnome-control-center
Version: 1:2.28.1-1
Severity: normal

When adding custom shortcuts to gnome-keybinding-properties, there are numerous
UI errors:
- After adding the first custom shortcut, no additional custom shortcuts will
appear in the dialog until you close and re-open gnome-keybinding-properties.
- When you remove a custom shortcut, oftentimes the next time you launch
gnome-keybinding-properties a blank custom shortcut named ""
will be present. This cannot be removed normally, though it will go away if you
edit it and press "Apply". It sometimes will re-appear the next time you run
gnome-keybinding-properties.
- Whenever you single-click on a custom shortcut, the edit dialog is brought
up. If you wish to do another action on that shortcut, such as remove it, you
must first cancel out of that dialog. It should select the item on a single
click, and only bring up the edit dialog on a double click or when pressing an
"Edit" button. (which should be added)

I can't reproduce this on my Radeon X300 (rv370).

When did this problem start? What did you upgrade when it started?

Since nobody else has ever reported such a critical problem (while the
radeon driver has many users), I suggest your check your installation
(with debsums for instance) and maybe check your hardware as well
(memtest, smartctl, is there some sort of memtest for video?). Something
strange is going on here...

Bug#552705: ITP: mp4v2 -- a library that provides functions to read, eate, and modify mp4 files

2009-12-08 Thread Maia Kozheva
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

gtkpod, in fact, only uses mp4v2's metadata functionality.
Unfortunately, taglib is a C++ library and gtkpod is written in C, so
porting it to taglib is not an option.

Reinhard suggested porting it to libavformat - I couldn't find
documentation specifically about its metadata functionality, though, and
I'm not sure upstream will agree about adding a dependency on ffmpeg,
given how conservative they are. It can be patched for Debian/Ubuntu, at
least.

Since this bug was reported, no further comment was made by the

One more FTBFS bug has just been reported (easy to fix, admittedly,
but still) and I got no answers to my l10n NMU proposals.

As a consequence, I think that all conditions are met for the package

My current idea for this is to have a mode in which AT_CHECK_MACRO
records cache values, or we simply run `testsuite -d' and collect cache
values across all tests, maybe weeding out or commenting out those that
are not consistent across the testsuite; then redo the same for an older
release, and compare.

Thanks,
Ralf

Bug#560058: [NEW PATCH] Bug #560058: quinn-diff: should support architecture wildcards

2009-12-08 Thread Andres Mejia
Here's a new patch that I think better implements support for architecture
wildcards for quinn-diff. This uses the 'Dpkg::Arch' Perl module directly via
an embedded Perl interpreter. The old patch should be discarded.

This patch leaves out autogenerated files from autoreconf.

1.91 would be the latest gcc-defaults version. Let's forget about this
version since java-gcj-compat-dev comes from its own java-gcj-compat
source package. Hopefully that'll fix version-tracking from a BTS
point of view.

sure.

as best i can tell, that simply doesn't work:

  qemu-arm-static chroot /opt/ltsp/armel/
  Error -1 while loading chroot

the only point (that i'm aware of) for building static variants seemed to be
for simplified cross-architecture chroots, based on the bug report:

#384338 qemu: please build static variants for use inside chroots

i've heard people requesting cross-architecture support for debootstrap,
lessdisks and LTSP for 5+ years, and it is feasible to have it working out of
the box (at least for some architectures) with qemu-user-static.

so i'd like to figure out something workable for both use cases, though i
admittedly am not familiar with the use cases for non-chrooted environments.

p.s. no need to CC me; i'm wathching the bug report and list.

Bug#560127: freebsd-utils: Mounting /sys unconditionally breaks pbuilder --create

2009-12-08 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: freebsd-utils
Version: 8.0-1
Severity: important

Hi,

“pbuilder --create” is broken, presumably since the switch to 8.x
kernels, since:
 - current version with kernel 8.x is broken;
 - previous versions (even lenny's) with kernel 8.x are broken, while I
it was working fine a few months back, using 7.x kernels.

I'm not certain I can switch kernels with my (remote) porter box so I
can't tell for sure, but that sounds like something possible.

The actual failure:

| E: failed building base tarball

Workaround for the current situation: Interrupting (C-z) “pbuilder
--create” once freebsd-utils's postinst has been run, chrooting there,
umounting /sys, and resuming (fg) makes it possible to create a pbuilder
base system successfully.

A few solutions I can think of:
 - maybe ask pbuilder folks to exclude the sys directory when creating
   the base tarball.
 - maybe mount /sys conditionally. I'm not sure what could be checked
(in this very case, there's /debootstrap/ around, with e.g.
debootstrap.log inside), but then, it could break d-i or such stuff
where one would want various stuff to be mounted. I think this leads
us back to the idea of having a tool telling us whether we're in the
chroot, and of which type, brought up a few weeks/months ago.

I guess the first option could be fine, without too many side-effects,
and probably accepted. I can't really imagine what interesting stuff in
/sys could be needed in base.tgz but I might be lacking imagination. :)

In the meanwhile, opening a bug against freebsd-utils since its mounting
/sys unconditionally seems like the culprit at the moment, let's keep it
around until a proper solution is found.

Just as a reminder, freebsd-utils's postinst calls invoke-rc.d, and
there's no policy-rc.d to deny its being started when creating a chroot
(IIRC sbuild creates one, but after installing the basic chroot).

Mraw,
KiBi.

i've recently been seeing this with ldm as well:

http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/ldm.html
http://packages.debian.org/source/unstable/ldm

reports 2:2.0.6-4 for unstable. although most architectures, except hurd-i386,
have version 2:2.0.48-1 in testing and unstable.

seems gsynaptics is also very outdated on hurd-i386, so my guess is that has
something to do with it.

thanks for maintaining packages.qa.debian.org!

Bug#560125: freebsd-utils: Insufficient quoting in init.d script

2009-12-08 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: freebsd-utils
Version: 8.0-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

while debugging some stuff, I stumbled upon this:
| /etc/init.d/freebsd-utils: line 88: [: !=: unary operator expected

Indeed, the $(readlink …) part isn't quoted so if it returns nothing,
the test operates on “ != "/proc/mounts"” with a missing argument. That
may happen during debootstrapping.

Please find attached a trivial patch against glibc-bsd's trunk to fix
that.

[ As a side note: One may wonder, but even though the script is “set
-e”, later instructions are executed anyway (I was interested in such
operations). ]

As another (more interesting) side-note, that can break (I guess)
depending on the partitioning(?):
| + ln -f /proc/mounts /etc/mtab
| ln: creating hard link `/etc/mtab' => `/proc/mounts': Invalid cross-device
link

I guess another bugreport about that is in order.

KiBi.

Bug#559797: RFS: libtool 2.2.6b

2009-12-08 Thread Michael Gilbert
Hi all,

I have packaged the new version of libtool for unstable. This fixes
CVE-2009-3736. I am looking for a sponsor for the upload.

The upstream changes are substantial (the diff between 2.2.6a and
2.2.6b is 7.3 MiB, so I have chosen not to attach it). Instead, I have
attached a diff for my changes to just the debian directory.

If you feel more comfortable building the package yourself, you can
download the new upstream release directly, run 'uupdate -v 2.2.6b',
then apply my diff. The uupdate applies cleanly.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libtool
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libtool/libtool_2.2.6b-0+nmu1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards,
Mike

Bug#551442: gnome-panel: crashes unpredictably

package gnome-panel
found 551442 2.28.0-3
thanks

This bug still occurs after upgrading all of ‘capplets-data’,
‘gnome-applets’, ‘gnome-panel’ and many other related packages to the
latest in Squeeze. The panel still crashes frequently, and no
particular user activity appears to be the trigger.

Communication with upstream via email continues to be fruitless (as an
end-user, anyway); new reports from ‘bug-buddy’ get marked as
duplicates with no further discussion, and replies bounce when sent to
the sender address specified on the email messages from the BTS.

All relevant debugging packages are installed on the machine. The
reports from ‘bug-buddy’ contain full tracebacks with symbols.
Requests in the bug report, for explanation of what further
information is required, have been ignored.

Perhaps there's a second bug in it (or elsewhere). The bug I could
reproduce is definitely fixed now. I just re-tested that exact same
module by running a netperf TCP streaming test:

$ netperf -l 60 -H 10.42.43.10 -t TCP_MAERTS -- -H
fe80::223:54ff:fe0b:134%2,inet6
TCP MAERTS TEST from ::0 (::) port 0 AF_INET6 to fe80::223:54ff:fe0b:134%2

Recv SendSend
Socket Socket Message Elapsed
Size SizeSize Time Throughput
bytes bytes bytessecs.10^6bits/sec

 87380 16384 1638460.32 92.80

This is near-line-rate performance. The MAC and IPv6 stats on this end
also showed no errors during this test.

As I see this:

1/ notify-osd package in Debian doesn't replace the default
notification-system yet, so IMO, conflicts is not required.

2/ The ubuntu's patched version of pidgin-libnotify for notify-osd,
uses libindicate [1] which is not yet packaged in Debian. So there is
no easy way to pull in changes from Ubuntu.

TODO: Try to migrate libindicate to Debian (any help in this regard
will be appreciated), and then may be enable notify-osd support in
pidgin-libnotify.

just noticed that those are part of the normal debian patch set to
this package, so this isn't a concern. although the need for these
files is somewhat questionable.

Yes. My scripts are using those options.

FYI:
In the above URL, the required options for rsync are described as
follows:
- Recommended: --recursive --times --links --hard-links --delete.
- If possible: --delete-after

If you want to use --max-delete and --delay-updates, please update
the web page.

There is possbility to make the virtual host for http, but,
for making new virtual hostname, I need to negotiate with our
network management part and process some papers.

I can not make the aliases for debian from / (root), because
we need to put the Linux destributions under
/Linux/{packages|distributions} (our policy).

In addition, if we use the virtual host, the hostname is need
to change for http and ftp/rsync. An image is shown as follows:
- for http
  http://debian.ftp.ne.jp/debian/
- for ftp/rsync
  ftp://ftp.kddilabs.jp/pub/debian/
  rsync://ftp.kddilabs.jp/debian/
Note: I can not make a virtual host for ftp.

By the debian mirror list(*), some mirror sites uses the path
from /pub or other places. If you can, please accept the current
paths for our server.

I can undestand your concern. I will contact the Debian JP Project
and change the master server for us.

Though I am also using --max-delete option to avoid this situation,
the same accident occurs a few times per a year. Recently, it occurs
for the opensuse distribution. So, I will use the close master
servers, if possible.

there are some unnecessary changes to some of the binary (png and

Bug#560118: miscategorized mimetypes

2009-12-08 Thread Peter
Package: mime-support

I think application/x-go-sgf should be text/x-go-sgf.

I also think its likely that application/x-chess-pgn and
application/x-ruby, as well as possibly some others, should be "text".
Additionally, it seems that these are the same on gentoo/KDE as well
as debian/gnome so I'm not sure if I should just file a separate bug
report with gentoo or what.

Start from around Dec 8, 2009. Pidgin 2.4.* can't connect to MSN

According to a bug report [1] from upstream project, This seems apply
to all pidgin 2.4.* user world wide due to a little change in the

just another addition to this: any settng of GRUB_GFXMODE

belive this should be "set gfxmode=${GRUB_GFXMODE}".

gfxpayload should probably be set similar in /etc/default/grub

Don't know how helpful they are but gdb output is attached (gdb.txt)
There is also a backtrace with libqt4-dbg installed (gdb+qt.txt)

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Bug#560114: brltty: FTBFS on kfreebsd-* with 8.x kernels

Hi,

I know it's technically a regression and that this should be RC since
your package already built on kfreebsd-* but as discussed on IRC, we're
trying to coordinate the removal of the offending binaries.

Given changes in the USB stack (you can read details in [1]), your
package FTBFS with recent freebsd kernel/headers (full log at [2]):

Once usb-related work finished on the kfreebsd-* side, either patches

Bug#560079: not yet I think

2009-12-08 Thread Matevž Jekovec
Hi Paul.

I think NoteEdit still has some features all nted, Canorus and MuseScore
don't offer yet (eg. abc export, MUP import). There is also problem
opening the original noteedit files, which are not entirely MUP
compatible, so opening it with noteedit and exporting to musicxml is
currently the way to go.

IMO, we should postpone for at least another year about this. I hope
there aren't too big problems with qt3 and kdelibs4 maintenence for
this. Maybe I will create a noteedit/MUP import filter for Canorus.

All architectures that support PCI provide some means to access PCI I/O
space. It appears that glibc supports the in*() and out*() functions on
alpha, amd64, arm, ia64 and i386.

Bug#560113: Iceweasel: Ability to open another instance on another X server

2009-12-08 Thread Brian Paterni

Package: iceweasel
Severity: wishlist

I'm not sure what the design limitation is here, but right now I'm
unable to open another instance of Iceweasel when I'm in another X server
besides the X server that I launched the first instance from.

example:
I open first Iceweasel instance on X server 0 on vt7.
Starting another X server on vt8 and attempting to open another
Iceweasel window results in the following error message:

"Iceweasel is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window
you must first close the existing Iceweasel process, or restart your
system."

> ./etc/X11/app-defaults/DClock/Dclock.ad
:

I think the original bug submitter was trying to say that the
app-defaults directory has no subdirectories, and therefore there
should not be a DClock subdirectory there. The debian/install file
has "Dclock.ad etc/X11/app-defaults/DClock" - I think the package
maintainer was trying to rename the Dclock.ad file to Dclock, and have
it live in the app-defaults directory, but instead a DClock
subdirectory appeared, and the Dclock.ad Xresource file was installed
there.

Looking at the debian/patches/01_sound_paths.diff file, it shows:
-dclock*bellFile: /usr/share/sound/bell.wav
-dclock*alarmFile: /usr/share/sound/digital.wav
+dclock*bellFile: /usr/share/sounds/dclock/bell.wav
+dclock*alarmFile: /usr/share/sound/dclock/digital.wav

The alarmFile should be in /usr/share/sounds (plural), but it appears
correctly in /usr/share/sounds/ in the .deb file for some reason.

Yes, the name is a bit to generic. Any other suggestions for the name?
On the mailing list I found 'release-info'. On my list are now:

* release-info
* distro-release-info
* distro-releases

Any preferred name or suggestions?

Should i rename the scripts, too?

The topic of these discussions were slightly different. The release
packages does not know anything about the running release. It only needs
a date (and up-to-date data) for calculating the result.

Yes, there are different back-end scripts. Due to different release
models the both scripts use different algorithms. The distro data are
stored in cvs files (like a table) and then I throw a little bit of
Python on it. Subtracting the command line parsing only 60 lines of code
are required.

I found that page, too. The wikipedia page of Debian did not contain
more information.

I used this algorithm to calculate the support dates until we find
something more precise.

The patch is still needed. Modules support in 2.6.31 was also broken, I
haven't found time to check how it behaves in 2.6.32.

There is still a lot of work to get the support for bcm91250a in the
debian kernel packages, but I'll try to work on that.

Bug#559793: Fwd: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#559793: Update on libnss problem

2009-12-08 Thread Glen
I think we may actually be on a different page here. I haven't done anything
to the resolv.conf file at all, but it was a different .conf file that was
directly related to nss that I deleted, making it work. I seem to remember
browsing the postrm script for it, and it said something to the effect of if
its conf file is missing, cancel setup, else do some sort of perl command.
I'm beginning to think that perl may be the culprit here.

Until lucid is released, ubuntu-release -d would say lucid, but after
the release it will say m... (yes, a SRU with a one line change to the
data csv file is needed for the new information). The development
release is determined based on the date. We can add the next codename,
when it's announced.

'ubuntu-release -d' should always give you _current_ development release
or it will fail with telling you, that the data are outdated (example:
ubuntu-release -d --date=2011-01-01).

Yes, this tool is less useful on Debian, but it still provides you a
mapping from {old, stable, testing, sid} to the current codename. That's
for example useful for my pbuilder config.

I'm working on a parallel LCD interface with my custom PCB and I
wanted interactive way to use parallel port. Found this decided to
package it for myself and anyone else.

Should my packaging be changed to i386 & amd64 only?

The duplication issue should be solved when dictionnary packages are
rebuilt against the latest dictionnary-common package.

Agustin, do you know if that is planned?

Wonderful!

And one up my two upstream told me that the newer libltdl is 'smarter' and
will automagically defer to the system's libltdl when present which is what
we wanted here all along. I'll see that both my packages get those updates.

Bug#552813: rrdcgi also failing

2009-12-08 Thread Martin Schwenke
I'm seeing something very similar in rrdcgi on armel:

A different script on the same box produces a different
error:

  *** glibc detected *** /usr/bin/rrdcgi: munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer:
0x0009f010 ***
[Wed Dec 09 10:07:54 2009] [error] [client 192.168.20.31] Premature end of
script headers: index.cgi

Interestingly these scripts were working for me yesterday and nothing
on the box has been upgraded.

OK, I see. My filesystem is full. So librrd deals very poorly with a
full filesystem.

Could this explain other people's problems in this bug report?

This can be changed in console-data. I think the patch below should be
correct.

This may possibly require a change in console-setup as well if/when D-I
switches to that for keymap selection.

They're not really the source of much incompatibility, because people
rarely try to use them!

I have written a module like this myself for testing some new hardware.
On top of the low-level I/O, I defined classes for PCI devices and
register sets, and then wrote test cases using them. It was a lot
easier to write those test cases in Python than it would have been in C.

> Is there something that you want to package that depends on this?

I do hope not; this should never be used in production. But it may yet
be useful in hardware development.

Then ensure you call rsync with the same options as ftpsync does
(--max-delete used, --delay-updates and --delete-after enabled).

Possible, but not really wished to be honest: indeed, common path
avoid user errors, allow easier setup of round robins, etc.

Is a virtual host or alias so hard to be setup ?

Using --max-delete as ftpsync does protect against such failures on
a upstream mirror.

You can understand it may be counter-productive if any Debian mirror want to
sync from close master servers, it leads to overloading them.

Pandoc, like many other Haskell programs, uses Template Haskell, which
requires a stage-2 compiler. I'm not sure why the ghc compiler on hppa
is only stage-1, but that would be the place to fix the problem.

I noticed that a new upstream version (1.1) is available from the
project's SF website since October. Do you know if this issue as been
resolved and will you package the new version?

As an aside, your package(s) seem(s) to be interesting for scientists,
so I'd like to invite you to join the Debian Science team. You can find
help and sponsors there. (In case you need it, I did not bother to
check.)

it has been disclosed that it is possible for any website to query the

personally checked whether this package is vulnerable, but it seems to
be a general css design issue, so all css-supporting browsers are
likely affected. please check, and feel free to close the bug if the

(_AC_TYPE_INT_BODY): Avoid undefined behavior of attempting shift
wider than type.

I think we need to start comparing test results against tables for at
least a couple of systems, in order to guard against such issues.

Bug#560106: Spellchecker: Language entries are unsorted, some duplicated and there are too many entries.

2009-12-08 Thread Andrés Hamann
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.5-1
Severity: normal

The languages list for the spelling is extremely long and has no order.
I find myself using different languages and changing the writing
language often, therefore I have the following dictionaries installed:
myspell-ca, myspell-de-de, myspell-en-gb, myspell-en-us, myspell-es,
myspell-fr.
After last update, the "Languages" menu in iceweasel lists around 17
"Spanish / " dictionaries (main annoyance), this might be a bug in
myspell (please confirm if you agree) however iceweasel should also be
able to handle this better.
Also some of the entries are duplicated, having the list alphabetically
ordered and without duplications would be a good start.

This bug is related to this bug:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=557539
Which is marked as fixed in upstream:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=528893

But that fix has no relation to the problem of duplication and lack of
order.

I wrote a quick patch that seems to work, to order the entries and
ignore duplicated ones (that increases menu's usability), however I'm
not sure that it's the optimum nor the preferred way to do it but
hopefully it will give someone the idea to make it right.
A patch making submenus for each language with more than 3 entries or so
would be the ultimate solution, but I don't really know how to do that.

You can find attached the mentioned patch, written in Debian Squeeze,
with 2.6.30-2-amd64 kernel over the file
"toolkit/content/inlineSpellCheckUI.js" from the sources downloaded with
"apt-get source iceweasel" and this sources.list line:

Bug#560105: autoconf: AC_TYPE_INT32_T generates broken test?

2009-12-08 Thread Pierre Ynard
Package: autoconf
Version: 2.65-2
Severity: normal

AC_TYPE_INT32_T, and also AC_TYPE_INT16_T and AC_TYPE_INT64_T, output C
code that looks like:

int
main ()
{
static int test_array [1 - 2 * !(enum { N = $2 / 2 - 1 };
 0 < ($ac_type) ($ac_type) 1 << N) << N) - 1) * 2 + 1))];
test_array [0] = 0

  ;
  return 0;
}

which fails to compile with errors like:

conftest.c: In function 'main':
conftest.c:73: error: expected ')' before ';' token
conftest.c:74: error: expected expression before ']' token

Thus, the check always returns no. And then ./configure of project foo
aborts because it can find its int types...

This problem isn't there in autoconf 2.64-4.

Bug#556102: Google Earth doesn't display labels (#556102)

2009-12-08 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Hi!

Would be good to have this bug fixed, since it also makes the labels unreadable.
See http://people.debian.org/~naoliv/misc/556102-without.jpg
When exporting LANG=C, I get the correct result:
http://people.debian.org/~naoliv/misc/556102-with.jpg

Interesting is that if I export LANG=C I get the program in English.
If I export LC_ALL=C I get it in my language (Portuguese).

So maybe exporting LC_ALL=C is a better workaround?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Well, I'd like to stress that I'm not trying to coerce you into doing
other work you weren't willing to do! This doesn't have to be very
complex at all, if you have a Changelog that would be nice. Before
packaging it for Debian I'll also make a brief man page for it, which I

don't see one in the source. Under what conditions is the distribution
 of your interpreter permitted?

Some good choices for free licenses may be the GPL or the 3-clause BSD
license, depending on your taste. Normally, Public Domain is not as

 of a choice.[2]

That's the proper way to handle the license if it's under the GPL. Also
don't forget to add in a header to explain that you hold the copyright
since you started working on it.

I appreciate your cooperation on this; it's nice that other people will
be able to more easily benefit from your work.

Hi,
Sorry for the very long delay in following up.

The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable and tell
us whether the problem persists. If so, we should report it upstream
to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Thanks,
Moritz

Honestly, this doesn't sound like something that should be encouraged.
inb and outb are the source of much incompatibility between
architectures, and any package depending on this one will be (likely
permanently) stuck to i386.

Is there something that you want to package that depends on this?

Bug#559480: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#559480: alsa-base: No audio thought HDMI

2009-12-08 Thread Javier Ortega Conde (Malkavian)
Sorry Elimar, it's my fault as the writer of the report after trying to
help Jon with his problem.

The sound works except when trying to use HDMI output. I (we) don't know
how exactly HDMI works, but I think is something managed by video card AND
sound card.

'aplay -l' or "aplay -L" might say something about HDMI but they don't.

Sorry again if my severity calification is too hard.

I think that the asoundrc code you writed is for mixing audio for normal
audio output, and maybe is not necesary to manually write what you said
because I supose it'll work with default configuration. The problem is that
we couldn't get any HDMI output from aplay...

Thank you very much for your time and your quickly response.

Hi,
The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable and tell
us whether the problem persists. If so, we should report it upstream
to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Thanks,
Moritz
