Bug#561211: fox1.6: please add the Section field for the source package

2009-12-14 Thread Ilya Barygin

Version: 1.6.36-1
Severity: minor

User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com

Please add the Section field for the source package in debian/control.
In Debian, the field is not mandatory, just recommended. But in Ubuntu,
the absence of this field causes rejections from archive, as in this
bug: http://launchpad.net/bugs/484679 .

Bug#561207: fox1.6: Missing section in debian/control for source package

2009-12-14 Thread Luk Claes

Hi Fabrice

Fabrice Coutadeur wrote:

Recommended means it's not mandatory, so the severity of this bug seems
too high...

Every package should have a section and priority which you can find in
the Packages and Sources files. It can even be different from what's in
the control file of the package due to overrides. The ones in the
Packages and Sources files are the ones that matter. If it's impossible
to import such a package in Ubuntu, it looks to me like a bug in the
tool to import packages used in Ubuntu.

Cheers

Luk

As you might have seen (or not...), I sent a final summary of the l10n
update process in #510554.

So, I think this is more or less a right moment to upload a new
package version.

Anything I can do for helping this (that might include uploading the
updated package in case you're not a DD)?

Looking at the original bug report you sent (which we apparently
loosely noticed, sorry for this), I notice that we don't have much
details about your specific setup.

What kind of machine is the domain controller?

Could you post relevant parts of your smb.conf file (or, even better, the
output of "testparm")?

Maybe installing the samba-dbg package would help getting more
information in the panic trace, too (here, Steve Langasek would have
bette radvice than me, though).

Did this appear suddenly after an upgrade? Or is this something that
you never used before?

What exact smbclient command line are you using to access these shares?

How are the files shared on the Windows "servers" (share...and
files...allowed for "Everyone", or "Authenticated users"?)? Do these
servers have their anonymous account activated? Are they, themselves,
part of a domain?

Hello,

I think that the proper way to address this bug will be to tell users to
include the protocol in /etc/moin/wikilist, e.g:

instead of

Which unfortunately links against a copy of ffmpeg that utterly breaks
packages like vlc in debian. Please refrain from reporting bugs to

Hi,

As already mentioned, the used solution does not work when UINPUT is compiled
in. You can check for /sys/devices/virtual/misc/uinput (it's a directory)
being present and only try to load the module if it is not.
Then start the program _unconditionally_!

Bug#560331: Tried to have my package uploaded

2009-12-14 Thread Thomas Goirand
There you go, here's the limits of sponsoring showing up.

Roberto told me that his main development machine has issues so he can't
upload. I asked in #debian-mentors, someone told me he did upload, but
it fact, he did not (as the package is not showing up in the archive
after 12 hours). Here's the last message from Roberto:

"I am having problems with main workstation computer (which has my
entire Debian development environment on it). I am not sure when I will
get a chance to fix it, so it may be some days before I get to sponsor
your dkiproxy package."

Now, this clearly shows why being a DD would help me a lot for my
packaging work, and how sponsoring is really creating issues. I have the
package ready and tested, but yet, it is stuck in our private
repository, while many are needing it... :(

It also shows that I was not so wrong to tell that having many uploads
in a life cycle is really time demanding when you need to have your
package sponsored.

If anyone reads this, please consider sponsoring:

http://ftparchive.gplhost.com/debian/pool/lenny/main/d/dkimproxy/dkimproxy_1.2-1.dsc

and also consider being my AM.

Thomas

Dave, Carlos,
Would this imply something might be broken in the stack unwinding?
Or is this more likely to be something specific to Gnu ADA?

Bug#443372: Bonobo_Unknown_queryInterface throwing exception

2009-12-14 Thread Matt Kraai
Hi,

I instrumented the code on my system and found that the following
call,

 container = Bonobo_Unknown_queryInterface (object,
"IDL:Bonobo/ItemContainer:1.0",
&corba_ev);

which starts on line 1284 of gnome-panel's
gnome-panel/panel-applet-frame.c, is throwing the
ex_CORBA_COMM_FAILURE exception.

I don't know if the problem I'm seeing is the same as the original
submitter, nor if it's caused by gnome-applets, gnome-panel,
liborbit2, or some other package. Do you have any suggestions on how
to handle it?

Bug#524733: 524733: Script 'mscore' incorrectly assumes that I use pulseaudio

Hi Toby,

I'm still seeing the following messages when starting mscore 0.9.5+dfsg-1:
$ mscore
/usr/bin/mscore: line 9: list: command not found
stat: missing operand
Try `stat --help' for more information.
Using JACK for audio
Unable to open file "/usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2"

I have the package pulseaudio installed, but not pulseaudio-utils.
The pactl command referenced in the script /usr/bin/mscore lives in
pulseaudio-utils.

In /usr/bin/mscore, it has:
if [ "$PULSEAUDIO" -eq "0" ]; then

This should be something like if [ "$PULSEAUDIO" -eq "0" ] && [ -e
$(which pactl) ]; then

Package mscore should also have a Suggests: pulseaudio-utils (package
pulseaudio has a Suggests: pulseaudio-utils, so installing pulseaudio
will not install pulseaudio-utils).

thanks,
Yoshio

No, check packages.d.o, hurd still has the old version DEHS is finding.

Would be great if you could provide one. Basically what needs to be
done is move the code that injects the new packages in the temporary
tables outside the loop that reads the Sources file of each archive
area. That loop should then be modified to store in the hash the data
that is later to be injected into the database, and compare the
version numbers if an entry already exists on the hash. The db-related
code should then work based on the generated hash.

Cheers,

Bug#561200: (no subject)

2009-12-14 Thread Ryan Niebur
Package: gtkwhiteboard
Version: 1.3+dfsg-5.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: freewx-ma...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: wx2.6

When the current version of gtkwhiteboard is ran with python-wxgtk2.8
installed (since it's the default version and this program doesn't
make use of wxversion to force using wx 2.6), an error is generated
due to a behavior change in wxwidgets. Apparently starting with
wxwidgets 2.8, an error message is displayed when an icon (such as the
one that was removed from the gtkwhiteboard package) is attempted to
be loaded but doesn't exist. So the attached patch removes the code
that tries to use the icon that was removed. It also updates the
dependencies to include python-wxgtk2.8. "Severity: normal" because
this causes an annoying error dialog on startup for some users. Also,
I wasn't able to fully test the application because I don't have the
hardware to do so. If it still doesn't work with wx 2.8, wxversion
should be used to ensure that wx 2.6 is used.

Cheers,
Ryan

That bug (which I've unarchived and merged this one with), was never
marked as being fixed in 7.1.314-3+lenny2, so this is completely
expected.

Bug#561199: ganglia-monitor: post-installation script returns error exit status 1

2009-12-14 Thread Christoph Dwertmann
Package: ganglia-monitor
Version: 3.1.2-2.1
Severity: important

Upgrading ganglia-monitor to 3.1.2-2.1 fails with the message:

Setting up ganglia-monitor (3.1.2-2.1) ...
dpkg: error processing ganglia-monitor (--configure):

Errors were encountered while processing:

Removing the second line ("set -e") from the postinstall script resolved the
problem on my machines.

Reinhard,

So I see that mplayer has been sitting in new for 6 months now. I take
it the slowness is related to #552373 and the new stripping to add
mencoder to main?

It is really a shame that mplayer is languishing with no updates for so
long. When all is said and done we can probably lay blame at the US
patent system. Our Supreme Court is looking at eliminating software
patents altogether (see In Re Bilski in any search), and I think I can
speak for everyone in saying I hope they succeed.

Luckily we have the packages over at Debian Multimedia for now (which
has addressed this bug).

Any ETA for when this will be added to unstable?

Best regards,

Nathan A. Stine

Bug#561197: ncftpput upload always append

2009-12-14 Thread Tong Sun

Package: ncftp
Version: 2:3.2.2-1
Severity: minor

Hi Noèl,

I posted the following question a while ago, and nobody seems to be
able to solve it.

Could you help please?

Thanks

Subject: OT: ncftpput upload, not to append
 Newsgroups: gmane.linux.debian.user
 Date: 2009-11-28 18:46:51 GMT (2 weeks, 2 days, 8 hours and 22 minutes ago)

Hi,

Somehow my ncftpput upload session always ends up as appending to
existing files instead of overwriting them.

I searched its man pages, and it seems that there is only one related
option, the -A, which turns *on* append mode, not off, which I never use.

Any way for ncftpput to be in overwriting mode instead of appending?

Thanks

PS. Here is the command & detailed log:

Bug#561196: resolvconf: Add explicit support for Unbound, MaraDNS, and dnscache (in djbdns/dbndns)

2009-12-14 Thread Rick Moen
Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.45
Severity: wishlist

Version 1.45's README lists DNS recursing nameservers as: bind9(*),
pdns-recursor(*) (with * meaning "with some manual configuration").
It would be nice, when you guys have time, to add to that roster the
other three recursive nameservers available in Debian: Unbound,
MaraDNS, and dnscache (in packages djbdns/dbndns).

At the same time, I note with appreciation Thomas Hood's general
solution to that problem in bug #366309, message #14:

"First of all, resolvconf already puts addresses for lo.* first and
truncates the nameserver list in resolv.conf after the first 127.*
address. Second, overriding is already possible in more than one way.
One can add a 'nameserver w.x.y.z' line to
/etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head so that this line always appears
before a "nameserver" line generated by resolvconf. Thus w.x.y.z will
override any other addresses in the sense that it will be tried first."

For collective knowledge, an additional workaround is to just uncomment
this line in the client machine's /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf file:
 #prepend domain-name-servers 127.0.0.1;

Thank you for your work on this excellent software, anyway.

Bug#561195: Recursive type detection (e.g. .pdf.gz).

2009-12-14 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: less
Version: 436-1
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/lesspipe

Currently lesspipe defines handlers for compression (e.g. .gz) and for
binary files (e.g. .pdf). However it does not correctly handle both
together (e.g. .pdf.gz).

It would be nice if lesspipe handled this by either recursing over
extensions until there are no known extensions to consume. If that's
too "clever", the immediate symptom (handling .pdf.gz files) could be
implemented by performing two passes -- one for compression
extensions, and one for all other extensions.

I will keep that in mind. Fortran parts often change less frequently which
increases the chances if autoconf files getting stale.

I will patch R 2.10.1 by hand as you suggested, but we should liaise with
Kurt to make sure everything is tied up correctly upstream.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-1

I've been running into what appears to be the same problem since upgrading
to 2.6.32, in that vesafb is activating unsolicited (despite an explicit
video parameter referring to i915) and interfering with inteldrmfb:

Although X still starts up properly complete with UXA, DRI2, and such, the

inaccessible from then on. (Attempting to switch VTs keeps a snapshot of

Bug#462377: Updated policy in python-defaults 2.5.4-4 should resolve the confusion

2009-12-14 Thread Scott Kitterman
Now the that policy shipped in python-defaults has been updated (including a
review of Manoj's document, it should be at least clear which reference should
be used. We will need some time before we should consider it fully blessed,
so this is progress on this bug, but doesn't resolve it.

Hi,

Jabberd2 currently depends on udns which was abandoned a long time ago.
It should be replaced by something else. See upstream bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/jabberd2/+bug/496824

Cheers,

(I don't expect anything to happen in the Debian package now, just to
keep track of the issue)

This problem is revised by the following patches.
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-autoconf/2008-10/msg00039.html

Autoconf which this revision is taken in is autoconf-2.64.
And autoconf of Debian is 2.65-3 now.

Most of source pachages which use gfortran and configure was made in
old autoconf became the object of this problem.

After upgrading to lenny, bug #482776 reappeared almost exactly again.

I verified that the bug indeed was fixed in older versions, and the
"workaround" is still to "set nohidden". The other workaround given in the
original bug ticket doesn't work, though.

Bug#508527: [PATCH] via-velocity: Give RX descriptors to the NIC later on open or MTU change

2009-12-14 Thread Ben Hutchings
velocity_open() calls velocity_give_many_rx_descs(), which gives RX
descriptors to the NIC, before installing an interrupt handler or
calling velocity_init_registers(). I think this is very unsafe and it
appears to explain the bug report .

On MTU change, velocity_give_many_rx_descs() is again called before
velocity_init_registers(). I'm not sure whether this is unsafe but
it does look wrong.

Therefore, move the calls to velocity_give_many_rx_descs() after
request_irq() and velocity_init_registers().

Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings

This is untested; I don't have this hardware.

Hi Bas, hi all,

On Mon, 14 Dec 2009, Bas Zoetekouw wrote:

Thanks for spotting that, that is rubbish. We have to replace that
with gs.

There is another bug, namely that we do not ship dvipdfmx.cfg file
in /etc/texmf/dvipdfmx/dvipdfmx.cfg, will also be fixed in the next
release.

ATTENTION TO everyone on the list:
Can PLEASE PLEASE someone look into that and check what we should put
into the D (distiller) commands for dvipdfm and dvipdfmx? The stuff
in 2009 is different to 2007, and there is this remark of not
using -dSFER which makes me nervous.

PLEASE someone ... Either send me a fix invocation or edit
texlive2009/trunk/texlive-base/debian/patches/dvipdfm-config-no-rungs
(attention that is a diff) and replace the gs line with the
choosen code!

Thanks!

Everything else is in place so that a rebuild will fix it.

No matter what happened exactly in my case, I see it quite likely that
people break their system. The only thing you have to do is to install
a package from testing/unstable on a lenny system with a dependency
to libk5crypto3 and then uninstall it again. Libk5crypto3
will get uninstalled as well, as it is marked as an automatic
dependency and it's good bye for your remote system.

(Some members of) R upstream use Debian for development. Can you indicate
which autoconf versions in Debian are good enough ?

Also, before you send me bug reports for every binary that I upload: Is
there a way to fix this a little better programmatically ?

Bug#561185: xkb-data: support custom layouts

2009-12-14 Thread Shai Berger
Package: xkb-data
Version: 1.7-1
Severity: wishlist

Since all xkb data moved from /etc to /usr, upgrades
feel free to overwrite changes made to layouts. I want
my custom layout (at least while #530820 is being
pondered), and I don't want to modify the
files under /usr -- which I must modify again,
manually, with every upgrade.

I note bug #497341 and its upstream offshoot,
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20743

If I read that bug correctly, upstream's attitude
towards custom layouts is somewhere between "no"
and "it's downstream's business". Or perhaps I am
missing something, and it is just missing docs; but
downstream's
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/297428
would seem to indicate otherwise.

Thanks,
Shai.

Removing the "-- -B --pidfile=..." portion of the daemon parameters and
replacing with "--background" fixes this issue for me and gets pootle 2.0

Bug#561181: sepia: install fails with emacs23

2009-12-14 Thread Kevin Ryde

where I hoped that if sepia does plenty that doesn't depend on w3m then
it would install but the w3m parts be omitted or be non-functional in
emacs23 (or unless a new-enough w3m-el).

Or alternately if a new enough w3m-el really is a hard dependency then I
would hope the necessary version was expressed in the control file, not
by a failure during the postinst.

Hi,

r-base FTBFS on SH4.
Because configure included in r-base is created in old autoconf.

Bug#560809: storepasswd option writes to character devices and modifies permissions.

> though it fails.

Due to this bug report the -storepasswd error reporting has been improved
in the x11vnc 0.9.9 dev tarball:

http://x11vnc.sourceforge.net/dev/x11vnc-0.9.9.tar.gz

i.e., the reason for the failure is now reported.

Regarding writing to character devices like /dev/null, I'm not sure
why x11vnc shouldn't write to them if the user requests it.

Regarding changing the permissions, I don't feel this is a bug. I think
it is better to err on the safe safe side to prevent other users from
being able to read the VNC password. It's unfortunate that running
x11vnc -storepasswd with root privileges one can change the permissions
of device files in, e.g., /dev, but this is the expected behavior.

Also note that it is the libvncserver library package, not x11vnc,
that changes the pemissions to 0600.

With the above x11vnc 0.9.9 tarball I cannot reproduce the behavior
you describe WRT block devices: if done as ordinary user it fails, if
done as root it actually does write it to the first 8 bytes.

Thanks, I've added this patch in my Subversion repository; it will be
included in the next mbuffer upload in a couple of days, and I'll also
forward it to the maintainer.

Thanks for catching this and taking care of the kFreeBSD builds!

Workaround for now is to erase the new /var/lib/pootle/dbs directory

their details will only exist in that db.

Bug#560805: writes status information to stderr.

2009-12-14 Thread Karl J. Runge
Hi,

> Even though I'm using the -quiet option I still get output "stored
> passwd in file"

In the upstream x11vnc 0.9.9 dev tarball I have clarified the scope of
the -quiet option:

| -q, -quiet Be quiet by printing less informational output to
|stderr. (use -noquiet to undo an earlier -quiet.)
|
|The -quiet option does not eliminate all informational
|output, it only reduces it. It is ignored in most
|auxiliary usage modes, e.g. -storepasswd. To eliminate
|all output use: 2>/dev/null 1>&2, etc.

> and the output goes to stderr instead of stdout:
>
> # x11vnc -quiet -storepasswd foo /dev/null >/dev/null
> stored passwd in file /dev/null
> # x11vnc -quiet -storepasswd foo /dev/null 2>/dev/null

I'm not quite sure why you feel this output should go to stdout.
This won't be changed upstream; all of the -storepasswd success and
error messages go to stderr.

I'm sorry but I don't think we can do this. The fix depends on many
other changes between 2.6.26 and 2.6.29.

Description : tool that calculates the percentage of code
accessed by tests.

Library that measures test coverage by instrumenting a
code base and watching which lines of code are and are
not executed as the test suite runs. In addition to
identifying untested code and locating bugs, Cobertura
can optimize code by flagging dead, unreachable code
and can provide insights into how an API operates in
practice.

Bug#561176: krb5-kdc-ldap: krb5kdc leaks file descriptors

2009-12-14 Thread Michael Spang
Package: krb5-kdc-ldap
Version: 1.7dfsg~beta3-1.1
Severity: important

We are using the LDAP backend and the KDC slowly leaks file
descriptors to the LDAP server. The KDC needs to be restarted every
few days since it hits the resource limits for max open file
descriptors and becomes unresponsive. As a side effect, the LDAP
server also reaches its file descriptor limit and becomes
unresponsive.

Here's the tail of the LDAP server log for one crash:

Dec 9 02:33:39 ginseng slapd[21052]: conn=5792 op=0 RESULT tag=97 err=0 text=

The KDC eats up all that's left of the 1024 possible file descriptors
for slapd. The KDC log shows nothing of interest.

We are using the following configuration:

[dbmodules]
openldap_ldapconf = {
db_library = kldap
ldap_kerberos_container_dn =
"cn=kerberos,dc=csclub,dc=uwaterloo,dc=ca"
ldap_kdc_dn = "cn=kerberos-kdc,dc=csclub,dc=uwaterloo,dc=ca"
ldap_kadmind_dn =
"cn=kerberos-admin,dc=csclub,dc=uwaterloo,dc=ca"
ldap_service_password_file = /etc/krb5kdc/service.keyfile
ldap_servers = ldapi:///
}

This may be related to #511348 however we do not use krb524d.

Thanks,
Michael Spang

On both Debian and Ubuntu, /usr/lib/libbz2.so currently links to

transitional dummy package so we have a proper upgrade path.

Bug#561172: bmf: `dbdb_db_open' implicitly converted to pointer

2009-12-14 Thread dann frazier
Source: bmf
Version: 0.9.4-1
Severity: serious
Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

Function `dbdb_db_open' implicitly converted to pointer at dbh.c:64

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

Bug#561160: boswars: DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt still compiles with -O2

2009-12-14 Thread Kalle Olavi Niemitalo
Kalle Olavi Niemitalo writes:

> I suggest changing debian/rules to place the optimization options
> in CCFLAGS instead.

Unfortunately, the SConstruct file seems to insist on treating
the whole CCFLAGS as just one argument. If I run
scons CCFLAGS="-DSTRATAGUS_LIB_PATH=\\\"/usr/share/games/boswars\\\" -O0"
then the -O0 becomes part of the STRATAGUS_LIB_PATH preprocessor macro.

I then tried making debian/rules generate the build_options.py
file before it runs scons. This way, I can get a CCFLAGS that is
a list rather than a string, and SConstruct properly passes each
argument to the compiler. Unfortunately, SConstruct also appends
an -O2 option that cancels the previous -O0. The -O2 is part of
the "release" build variant, which SConstruct makes the default.

The obvious next step then is to build the "debug" variant
instead. Unfortunately, that doesn't work either:

g++ -o build/debug/action/action_train.o -c
-DSTRATAGUS_LIB_PATH=\"/usr/share/games/boswars\" -Wall -g -O0 -g
-Wsign-compare -Wall -Werror -DUSE_VORBIS -DUSE_THEORA -DUSE_OGG
-DHAVE_STRCASESTR -DHAVE_STRNLEN -DHAVE_X -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_REENTRANT -DDEBUG
-I/usr/local/include -I/usr/include/lua5.1 -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/SDL
-Iengine/include -Iengine/guichan/include engine/action/action_train.cpp
cc1plus: warnings being treated as errors
In file included from engine/action/action_train.cpp:43:
engine/include/animation.h:57: error: 'typedef' was ignored in this declaration
scons: *** [build/debug/action/action_train.o] Error 1
scons: building terminated because of errors.

g++ 4.3.4 with -Wall warns about the useless typedef, and -Werror
makes that an error. The typedef has been removed in the
upstream Subversion repository (r9581) but that fix is not yet in
any release.

Anyway, it now seems to me that to get DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt to
work, Debian would have to patch either the SConstruct script or
the C++ source code. Support for DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS is only
"recommended" by Debian Policy version 3.8.3.0 section 4.9.1,
though, so this bug is not serious.

I have contacted the Upstream about this bug and says it is unable to
reproduce the error.
I quote the author:

"I did recompile with all warnings on Slackware current and stable
Debian Lenny both upgraded today.

slackware: 64bit, gcc (GCC) 4.3.3, -Wall or -pedantic-errors
debian lenny: 32bit, gcc (Debian 4.3.2-1.1) 4.3.2, -Wall or -pedantic-errors

Unfortunately I was unable to reproduce these error"

Can give me more details?
Regards!
