It should, but as I'm using a tiling window manager, it's hard to tell.

You can also add "NSS_SSL_ENABLE_RENEGOTIATION=1" in
/etc/iceweasel/iceweaselrc.

I am curious why ssh+screen can't do the job? It would be much more
secure than telnet. It would be nice to add a note in the package
description.

Also it is much more "à la unix" to use two tools together to do one
job, each one doing one thing well.

I thought the crash reported in #561309 was caused by the module trying
to load firmware on a machine that didn't have it (and didn't need it)?

Are you saying that the Thecus n2100 doesn't have the particular
chipset versions for which it requests firmware? (eg, rtl8168d)

Thanks for the report. This version of markdown has already been
packaged and has been available in experimental for some time (since
June 11, 2007 if the changelog is to be believed).

Do you think it should be uploaded to unstable?

It does not. However, the static information in the module lists all
firmware files that it might request.

This problem is not unique to r8169; you should fix it generically in
d-i.

Bug#563035: console-setup: bottom 2-3 lines are cut off in virtual terminals with Fixed14

2009-12-29 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: console-setup
Version: 1.50
Severity: normal

When I reconfigure console-setup to choose the Fixed font in size 14
(see debconf information below) and reboot the machine, the bottom
2-3 lines are cut off in virtual terminals.

This is a problem similar to question 1.2 from

  /usr/share/doc/console-setup/FAQ.gz

but I do not change the font size.

Fixed14 looks the same as Fixed16. So, I wonder whether the font size
is really changed.

Note: I use gdm.

Bug#561309: Thecus n2100, d-i and #561309

2009-12-29 Thread Joey Hess

The Thecus n2100 uses r8169 for ethernet.
Per #561309, in 2.6.32, that module requests two firmware files
(that are not packaged and are nonfree anyway), even when they are not
needed by the actual hardware. (The n2100 doesn't need them.)

In d-i, check-missing-firmware is run by ethdetect and will notice the
kernel has requested these two files and failed to get them. It will
then display a debconf note about the problem. This note will block
d-i getting onto the network, which on this typically console-less
system, is the only way a user can see it and continue with the
installation. Oops!

I have not verified this since my thecus is too important a server to
take down to test it. Maybe tbm could?

If I've predicted this problem accuratly, I wonder if the r8169 module
should/could be changed to request the firmware files only on hardware
that needs them?

A few workarounds could be done on the d-i side. We could skip the
blocking note display if the only missing files are those two. Or the
note could be disabled from being shown before the network is configured
(by preseeding or other method) on systems using network-console.

Do you say that Sugar doesn't work due to this, or is it just that
you notice this in logs?

This is an error I found in the log. It looks like sugar-session is
trying to call an XO specific power management tool by default.
I think this is used by the internal OLPC updater to prevent the
machine from powering down during an update. I'll look into it more.
But this is probably something that should just be pushed upstream to
Sugar Labs.

I'll wait for tomeu or another develop to comment.

Ok.

Bug#561264: This is an issue for me too

2009-12-29 Thread Nicholas J Humfrey
Hello,

I have just upgrade to Squeeze and this was a problem for me on my machine too.

Bug#515567: gnome-system-monitor: This issue existed for so long and is still not solved

2009-12-29 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: gnome-system-monitor
Version: 2.28.0-1
Severity: normal

This issue still exists after so long. If you run gnome-system-monitor as root,
there will be no issues but running it as root only sees root applications and
even if it does see the user processed,
this is a bug and gnome-system-monitor should allow regular users to increase
the process priority (decrease in the numerical value). This is probably not
given importance because CPUs today are more
powerful but when you're running an application such as a game that uses up all
of your system ressources and you want to get the most out of your CPU, this
proves to be very useful.

If Sugar breaks somewhere due to this, I guess we need to package that

It would be nice if both:

sometimes copying and pasting from a changelog includes the '#', this

Bug#563029: spamassassin: Bayesian classifier doesn't work (no BAYES_* in X-Spam-Status)

2009-12-29 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.2.5-6
Severity: normal

Though I can see that the .spamassassin/bayes_* files are updated,
the Bayesian classifier doesn't work: there's no BAYES_* in the
X-Spam-Status header, just autolearn={ham|no|failed}.

/etc/spamassassin/local.cf says:

# Use Bayesian classifier (default: 1)
#
# use_bayes 1

Since 1 is the default, it should be used.

/var/log/syslog has logs about spamd, but I cannot see any error.

In Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf, it is said:

  bayes_min_ham_num (Default: 200)
  bayes_min_spam_num (Default: 200)
To be accurate, the Bayes system does not activate until a certain
number of ham (non-spam) and spam have been learned. The default
is 200 of each ham and spam, but you can tune these up or down with
these two settings.

but I don't see any message suggesting that these limits haven't been
reached, and how to get the current status is not documented.

Bug#563028: Subject: jruby: jruby.jar has classes compiled for 1.6 JVM but declares support for 1.5 runtime

2009-12-29 Thread Shyamal Prasad

It seems that some classes in /usr/lib/jruby/lib/jruby.jar have been
compiled for the 1.6 class file format:

org/jruby/RubyBigDecimal$i_method_0_0$RUBYINVOKER$op_uminus.class:

It would be nice if we could run it all on the 1.5 VM like the

Bug#563027: libatasmart-bin: please, provide manpages for the user programs

2009-12-29 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: libatasmart-bin
Version: 0.17-1
Severity: important

The programs in libatasmart-bin are quite useful and simple for mere
mortals to understand in comparison with the complexity of smartctl from
smartmontools.

Unfortunately, the utilities don't have documentation and one has to
know, beforehand, that they accept options for optional passthru with
USB bridges.

It would be very nice to have this documented (I keep forgetting the
syntax and users new to the tools may not even know the possibility of
them being available).

Thanks in advance, Rogério Brito.

Hi,
The next release of Debian (6.0, code name Squeeze) will be based
on 2.6.32. Please test the current 2.6.32 from unstable and tell
us whether the problem persists. If so, we should report it upstream
to the kernel.org developers.

The 2.6.32 kernel is available from packages.debian.org and can
be installed in both Debian stable, testing and unstable
installations.

Bug#563023: libatasmart-bin: please support usbcypress passthru

2009-12-29 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: libatasmart-bin
Version: 0.17-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

I am in the process of reorganizing and selecting new tools (the
lighter, the merrier) for my systems and it seems that skdump/sktest are
quite nice candidates.

Unfortunately, it seems that they support jmicron USB passthru, but not
cypress. (Yes, I do have one Firewire+USB enclosure with Cypress
circuitry).

OTOH, smartmonctl *does* support it and, from a quick look at it, it
seems that it would be reasonably easy to port the necessary parts to
libatasmart.

This is, therefore, a request for such feature.

Thanks for packaging it, Rogério Brito.

Bug#530901: gcc: mips cross-compiler generates needlessly slow assembly

2009-12-29 Thread Matthias Klose

reassign 530901 gcc-4.2
tags 530901 + help

I assume nobody wants to fix this for 4.2, and the build of biarch cross
compilers from the gcc-4.x sources needs some work.

On 28.05.2009 19:34, Bas Wijnen wrote:

Package: gcc
Version: 4.2.4-6

The mips cross-compiler[1] generates assembly which reloads gp (by
adding a constant to t9, the function's address) at the start of every
function. This would make sense if functions are allowed to change gp.
But AFAIK they aren't. If they would, gp would need to be restored
after any call to a function as well, and it isn't.

While it doesn't harm the programs in their output, it does result in a
potentially large performance hit, without any reason at all. Please
let gp be initialized in crt0.s (I didn't check if this is done
already), and remove the code from functions.

Thanks,
Bas Wijnen

[1] I built a cross compiler by using apt-get source binutils and
gcc-4.2 (later versions fail to build). Then I used
$ TARGET=mipsel-linux-gnu fakeroot debian/rules binary-cross
for building a binutils package and
$ export GCC_TARGET=mipsel
$ export DEB_CROSS_INDEPENDENT=yes
$ debian/rules control
$ dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us -b -rfakeroot
to build the compiler itself (plus some dpkg-cross magic to install some
cross-libraries).

I made no changes to the debian sources.

The fortran program

write(6,*) 'string1'
write(6,'(A)') 'string2'
end

outputs string1 and issues a segmentation fault before printing string2
when compiled with gfortran and flag -malign-double. Without this flag
the program ends normally.

This test program

class Test {

public static void main(String argv[]) {

Object args[] = {
new Float(0.0001),
};
System.err.printf("%f\n", args);
}
}

produces no output when compiled with gcj (gcj Test.java --main=Test
-o Test) and run (./Test).

The correct output is produced when the bytecode is produced by javac
and run with the java virtual machine:

   % javac Test.java
   % java Test
   0.000100

printf is generally messed up anyway. The %x format insists on
printing 64 bit numbers even when given 32 bit integers as feed, and
it sign-extends them all, reulting in 0x8000 output from
integer 0x800.

And %g doesn't print anything either.

Compile as:
gcc -std=gnu99 -O1 -fno-strict-aliasing -w foo.c

This problem appears only sporadically. Previous builds did not
encounter this problem, nor does the current mipsel build. Possibly
the attached (generated) C file is tripping over some corner case?

Are there any work-around gcc flags I can use before this gets fixed?

I've pushed my proposed debian/copyright changes. Dominic and Andrew,
please check and/or update your part.

Quoting:

The parts of the Debian packaging by Niko Tyni, particularly
debian/scripts/rt-setup-database-debian

debian/scripts/test-database

It is assumed that all other copyright holders of the Debian packaging
have licensed their work under the same terms as the software itself.

I don't think we need to bother Sam with this but YMMV. The packaging
I inherited was mostly just the standard debhelper rules, not sure
if there's any copyrightable content left. See ee36fc7c7 in the git

Bug#563014: please add argument to scriptreplay(1) to set maximum delay between output

2009-12-29 Thread John Morrissey
Package: bsdutils
Version: 1:2.17~rc3-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

We use script(1) to record major upgrades or maintenance. Sometimes, there
are long pauses as commands execute or we pause to check documentation, etc.

When replaying these scripts, it would be nice to have a limit on the delay
between output so we don't have to wait for minutes at a time in these
situations.

The existing divisor argument is useful, but we'd like to have quick
operations played back at regular speed so they're easy to watch. If we set
the divisor argument high enough to shorten long delays, the rest of the
output speeds by too quickly.

The attached patch (which should apply cleanly to the version of util-linux
in experimental, hence the Version:) adds a "limit" argument to
scriptreplay(1) that sets the maximum amount of delay between output. It
also fixes a think-o in argument parsing (&& -> || in the argc check).

Bug#563013: systemsettings crashes when attempting to set PolicyKit Auth. and policykit is not installed

2009-12-29 Thread peter . karbaliotis
Package: systemsettings
Version: 4:4.3.4-3
Severity: normal

The problem can be fixed by installing policykit which is not currently a
dependency of systemsettings (nor a recommends or suggests). A more graceful
failure would be nice.

A crash dump is attached.

Thank you,

Peter Karbaliotis

I ran that check, and here are the results:

662 package:
 165463 Package:
  1 PAckage:
  4 PACKAGE:

so given it's a strict minority, there are other strance typos for
'Package' pseudo-header, so I decided to do a lower-case check.

Ahh, I think it is a combination of blends-dev and blends-common. I
tried manual upgrade from Lenny to this package (which is what piuparts
is doing, right?) and it works. Tried this for similar problems in
Debian Junior and Debian Science and the solution was always the same.
I really hope I did not overlooked something.

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Bug#563007: dvd project burn wrongly reports write failure on dvd-r but not dvd+r

2009-12-29 Thread Gary Dale

Package: k3b
Version: 1.0.5-3+b1
Severity: normal

I always write DVDs with the verify turned on. However it's currently
useless since 4.3G DVD-Rs always report a write failure at the end of
the burn phase (50% complete). I also burn to DVD+R DL disks sometimes
and don't have the same problem with them. I don't currently have any
DVD+R disks but I suspect the issue is just with DVD-R.

If I get the disk to eject after burning, it never reloads and so also
reports failure.

I wrote a short bash script to manually do the compares and usually the
files burned OK. It's just k3b seems to have a problem switching from
writing to reading DVD-Rs.

Bug#563009: singularity: Cannot enter number of servers if only fi_FI.UTF-8 locale is configured

2009-12-29 Thread Kalle Olavi Niemitalo
Package: singularity
Version: 0.30-2
Severity: normal

In this game, you can rent a warehouse and install computers
there. The game then asks how many computers you want to buy.
I typed in clearly valid values such as 1 or 2 but the game
kept complaining: "That doesn't seem to be a valid number."
Every now and then though, the value got through.
(I still don't know why.)

I then installed python2.5-dbg and debugged this with gdb.
It seems to be a problem with Unicode conversions:

Bug#563003: xserver-xorg-video-intel: New KMS method in experimental is not upstream recommended

2009-12-29 Thread Julien Cristau
severity 563003 wishlist
tag 563003 moreinfo
kthxbye

I'm not sure why you're mentioning initramfs-tools, since there seems to
be wide agreement that the kms driver shouldn't be loaded in the
initramfs.

I'm also puzzled by your assertion that this method is "not upstream
recommended", since it was acked by Carl Worth (see #555906).

You say changing the boot parameters is "how other distributions are
doing it", without any sort of backing for that assertion (I know at
least fedora and ubuntu configure their kernels with
CONFIG_DRM_I915_KMS=y, which Debian can't do for squeeze without
breaking the upgrade path).

So less assertions and more evidence would be nice.

Cheers,
Julien

2009-12-29 Thread Achim Schaefer
Package: sasl2-bin
Version: 2.1.23.dfsg1-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

when upgrading from an older version the postinst script tries to upgrade to
the new db format.
But the new utils package is not a dependency, so as on my box it is not
installed.
=> the upgrade fails

Please change the dependency from db4.7-util to db4.8-util.
After manual install the upgrade worked fine.

Thanks

There's a suspicious similarity to [1] maybe?

I won't be able to compile any kernels myself on this one, but I can test
what you build.

Bug#531003: tunnel does not survive suspend

2009-12-29 Thread Reinier Haasjes
Hi,

I, the new package maintainer, wrote a script to be placed in
/etc/pm/sleep.d.

I would be pleased if you could test the script in combination with
suspend. Of course I tested the script itself but not after a suspend.
My installation is not able to suspend at the moment.

Could you also confirm that 60* is the right place.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Bug#563005: pu: package libcgi-pm-perl/3.38-2lenny1

Package: release.debian.org
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

Hi release team,

I'd like to fix #555733 in stable with the attached debdiff.

As discussed in the bug log, the issue is present in both perl-modules
and libcgi-pm-perl, but I think it's best to leave perl-modules alone
and fix only the newer CGI.pm version that is available in libcgi-pm-perl.

Please let me know if it's OK to upload.

Thanks for your work,

Bug#561918: client certificate authentication broken

2009-12-29 Thread Alexander Kurtz
Hi,

Since I didn't find a copy of libnss3-1d 3.12.4-1, I wanted to mention
that the lenny version[1] of libnss3-1d works without problems with
squeeze (and probably sid too) so using this version until this bug is
fixed is easily possible.

Cheers

Alexander Kurtz

CVE-2009-3889 should be dealt with at the same time. That covers the
dbg_lvl parameter which is also world-writable.

Bug#563002: libswt-gtk-3.5-java: package does not provide symlink for /usr/share/java/swt.jar

2009-12-29 Thread Tony 'Nicoya' Mantler
Package: libswt-gtk-3.5-java
Version: 3.5.1-2
Severity: important

The libswt-gtk-3.4-java package provides an alternatives link for
/usr/share/java/swt.jar. However libswt-gtk-3.5-java does not provide this
symlink, thus breaking programs expecting to load 'swt.jar'. In particular,
this prevents the latest version of Azureus (4.3.0.6-1) from correctly
launching.
