Bug#590910: japitools: Dependency amendment to support use in headless server environments
Hi I will be working on this over the next couple of days - happy to prepare a patch for Debian minus the maintainer changes As part of delivering this fix to Ubuntu there are also a number of lintian warnings that I am looking to address - it would be great if these could be integrated back into Debian as well so that Ubuntu can revert back to the Debian managed package without regressing in this area Let me know what you think Regards James On 30 Jul 2010, at 09:32, Niels Thykier ni...@thykier.net wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 On 2010-07-29 22:48, James Page wrote: Package: japitools Version: 0.9.5+cvs20060115-2 Severity: normal Tags: patch User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu maverick ubuntu-patch Amending the installation dependency of this package to default-jre-headless supports its use in headless server environments. Bug#591028: xserver-xorg-video-vesa: Display of text in iceweasel wrong after upgrade to testing
Package: xserver-xorg-video-vesa Version: 1:2.3.0-3 Severity: normal Since upgrading PC to testing (Squeeze) occasionally when scrolling through large areas of text in Iceweasel the display of the text area corrupts as if the positioning of the new area being scrolled onto the screen is a few pixels out vertically. Often it seems to repeat a region of the text a few pixels high many time where the new text should be. I haven't reproduced this outside of Iceweasel, but suspect this is an X issue, hence choice of reporting against the X.org driver. Understand if this is immediately reassigned. Attempts to use an Iceweasel snapshot plugin doesn't capture the issue, as the screen is redrawn/refreshed in some way immediately the snapshot tool is invoked. I have a photograph of the problem when it occurs, but it is intermittent making it hard to test. Aside from searching for similar bugs in Debian and elsewhere I've not yet made serious efforts to resolve myself. I will try disabling smooth scrolling in the Iceweasel advanced tab. Any advice on recreating such issues may be useful. Typically if a page has the problem scrolling up and down a few times will get it redrawn correctly, or attempting to snapshot the problem area. Once a page is rendered correctly, the problem is not seen viewing that page, so presumably at that point a correct bitmap is cached at some level (apps or X). -- Package-specific info: /var/lib/x11/X.roster does not exist. /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist. With cmdline client the connection just breaks, other clients (like Total Commander and FileZilla) reconnect, so users might not be aware of that. FileZilla sometimes (just sometimes) asks to overwrite the last file because it noticed some error and wanted to try again - but just sometimes. Downgrade to 1.3.2e-4 solved the problem, everything works fine again. As 1.3.3a-1 is already in testing I thought this bug should be brought to your attention. Bug#591030: bcfg2-server init scripts are a complete mess
Subject: bcfg2-server init scripts are a complete mess Package: bcfg2-server Version: 1.0.1-2 Justification: renders package unusable Severity: grave Tags: patch *** Please type your report below this line *** Hi ! While being in the process of evaluating bcfg2, I came across its Debian init scripts, which are IMHO a complete mess. Sorry to come to use these terms, but I am really being honest... I hardly believe such bugs (really release critical, I guess, as I can't imagine even remotely using bcfg2, or, more simply, can't use it, with init scripts in this state) have not been reported yet. * To start with the start (sic) stanza : - well it works quite right on a standard machine, as well on boot as manually. But I have no interest in running it on a standard machine : I need it to be in an OpenVZ container (as long as LXC is still rough, with a lack of commodity executables and other scripts, hardware sharing, ressource management, and so on - until all of that is better in LXC, OpenVZ still rocks a lot - a lot more than KVM and such, which I deem as stupidly used most of the time, while containers do most jobs better, more securely, and consuming less resources - I like KVM, mind you... at most, on top of container-ization, or for networks simulations - but for segregating services ? As ridiculous as an H-bomb so to kill a mosquito). And here comes the problem : it will start manually in an OpenVZ container, but not on its start-up (this one is a special case, of a not so frequent to come to figure out-kind, but still... annoying). Fiddling a bit, I came accross the fact that it seems to run too early. Maybe every and all things start quicker, or slower, or in a better way, or in a luckily worse way, outside of an OpenVZ container (I don't know, and honestly, I don't really care), but inside, it is not the case (what I know is that in the test container I set up, a ls /etc/rc2.d|grep 01 only shows S01bcfg2, S01bcfg2-server, S01bootlogs and S01rsyslog as being launched that early : so common sense hints to bcfg2-server requiring rsyslog to be launched before it's spawned). Activating its debug mode, I realized bcfg2-server would try to start, but fail, and be killed immediately - except if it was to be run once the syslog has been started (verified through an invoke-rc.d rsyslog stop invoke-rc.d bcfg2-server start : bcfg2-server indeed fails to start) : hence, I added a $syslog in the Required-start, as (new) Squeeze (containers) use the dependency based init system to determine the running order at the boot, and after an update-rc.d bcfg2-server defaults and a container restart, voilà ! This way, bcfg2-server is run just fine at the boot/init of an OpenVZ container. - well... almost voilà. In the event the stop stanza would work (wich it is'nt... but I'll explain it a bit farther), problem could arise. Indeed, there is nothing in your script to protect against launching the bcfg2-server if it already is running. Or, well, if you do this while it already is, it seems to write bogus information in the PID file : try this, starting with a stopped server, and through an invoke-rc.d bcfg2-server start cat /var/run/bcfg2-server.pid invoke-rc.d bcfg2-server start cat /var/run/bcfg2-server.pid pidof -x /usr/sbin/bcfg2-server, and you'll see the PID file gets renewed, but the PID of the running bcfg2-server actually is... : surprise, it is not what is in the PID file, but instead is the one which was initially existing (I guess the idiotic start_daemon functions from LSB starts a new server instance, overwrites its new PID in the PID file, even though this server seems to die for whatever reason, only leaving the original one running... or something like that) - which is highly problematic if one would then want to stop the server (which will necessarily happen, whenever, as stopping the server requires a correct PID file...)... I guess this is another example, amongst a freaking multitude, of why the LSB init-functions is a pile of buggy and, mostly, useless crap... but, well, whatever : you seem to want to use it, so, let us try to cope with what you want... problem is simply resolved by testing wether the server is running before trying to launch it, and silently tell everything went OK but not do anything, if it was already running (this also implies setting the PID variable outside of the status function of the init script, as it now makes it also be used in the start function). Two problems solved... but this is far from ending there. * Now, for the stop stanza : - there seems to be a recurring bug in bcfg2-server (see http://trac.mcs.anl.gov/projects/bcfg2/ticket/709 - bug opened, then closed, then re-opened, then re-closed, ... on and on), where the server doesn't fully respond to a SIGTERM, because the fam/gamin/whatever worker thread doesn't stop, while the server waits indefinately for it to terminate... which results in the stop stanza not working. This also can be observed

Bug#590993: installation-reports: netboot install report broken mirror if installation CD is used as mirror
Frans Pop wrote: reassign 590993 debian-cd severity 590993 normal thanks Since you are trying something that's not really supported, this is certainly *not* a grave issue. After all, a CD image is not a mirror even if both contain a repository. It is correct that the error occurs because CD images have symlinks for all suites to the release (codename) included on the CD. This is mostly for historic reasons and no longer has any purpose (since current versions of the installer select by codename instead of suite). In a bit more detail. The latest versions of choose-mirror (including the current Etch and Lenny versions) perform validity checks on the Release files and will reject a mirror as broken if the Release file under a suite symlink lists a different suite inside the Release file. It would be better if debian-cd was modified to only include the symlink for the suite actually specified in the Release file. Reassigning accordingly. Looks like my whole attempt to use the ISO image as netboot installation source is futile, as the files are not signed on the CD, so netinst gives up in the next step. This can be worked around by telling the installer to ignore the signatures. See the installation guide for details. Bug#591037: chromium-browser: should not repeatedly ask if cookies should be set in incognito mode
Package: chromium-browser Version: 5.0.375.125~r53311-1 Severity: normal http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=44670 The above upstream bug report has this issue. When in incognito mode and when you have configured Chrome to ask before storing cookies there is no way to say allow all cookies from this site (for the duration of the incognito session) and there is no way to configure the cookie policy for incognito mode to be either accept all or reject all. This means that if you visit a cookie-heavy site such as www.microsoft.com then you have to press ENTER a lot. http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=42920 The above bug regarding closing an incognito window when being asked for a cookie causing a crash makes this more annoying. If a web site is on a slow link and is periodically sending another cookie then there is always the chance of getting a crash when you close a tab. [...] I have finished the game with these changes, without cheating. ;-) Almost all puzzles have returned. The only problem that remains is that Bob aquires the jet pack too early. I'll file a separate report for that. Sorry for the extremely late reply. I am now also upstream, and I'm trying to fix all the upstream bugs that have been reported. Very nice! I have played it with your patch, but with half the speed, the game is indeed less interesting, mainly because you are walking for ages in some levels. For most of the platform jumping, the increase in speed over the pre-1.14 speed did not really change the difficulty, since with longer jumps you have to be more careful to release the left/right keys at the right time in order not to overshoot. I agree a number of challenges have disappeared now, but perhaps it would be better to change the maps in those places to return it to the original difficulty level without needing to decrease the speed. What do you think about this? I think changing the maps would be a lot of work, but it is possible. An easier option would be to increase the game speed as a whole instead of just Bob. This can be done by decreasing the number 16 which appears several times in src/game.cpp, as frameLimit = SDL_GetTicks() + 16;. (It's probably a good idea to change it into a macro as well, or even a variable which can be switched slow/fast with a key.) I just tried setting it to 8, which makes it too fast. Probably 12 is a good value. That way, the original puzzles are automatically working, but you don't have to wait all the time for Bob to reach a place. Bug#580484: Bug #580484, With df plugin, Field name can be duplicated when working with long device names
fixed 580484 1.4.0-1 quit Hi Andrew, Thanks for noticing and reporting this bug. I know that the wiki page at http://munin-monitoring.org/wiki/notes_on_datasource_names says that the 19 charachter limitation was circumvented in munin 1.2, but upstream has only actually changed the code in Plugin.pm to reflect this in the munin 1.4 branch. This means that this has only really been tested in munin 1.4. As munin 1.2 branch is no longer being maintained, I'm reluctant to add such a change only to the debian package, and in any case this will be solved when upgrading to munin 1.4. Bug#584616: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the astk package
Dear maintainer of astk and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the astk Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs da de fr pt ru sv zh_CN Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the astk package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, August 06, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Monday, July 26, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Saturday, July 31, 2010 : send this notice Friday, August 06, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation updates Saturday, August 07, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day send the NMU patch to the BTS Saturday, August 14, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming Thanks for your efforts and time. -- -- # SOME DESCRIPTIVE TITLE. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # FIRST AUTHOR em...@address, YEAR. # #, fuzzy msgid msgstr Project-Id-Version: PACKAGE VERSION\n Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: a...@packages.debian.org\n POT-Creation-Date: 2010-06-11 18:10+0200\n PO-Revision-Date: YEAR-MO-DA HO:MI+ZONE\n Last-Translator: FULL NAME em...@address\n Language-Team: LANGUAGE l...@li.org\n Language: \n MIME-Version: 1.0\n Content-Type: text/plain; charset=CHARSET\n Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n #. Bug#591038: initramfs-tools: udev goes crazy spawnings many processes
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.97.2 Severity: important Recentl my system has stopped booting. I have two MD raid arrays with LVM on top of them. Each LVM volume (including root and swap) are encrypted, so obviously initramfs has to deal with them on boot. Several weeks ago system stop booting: 1. First, I see a lot of message like show here http://imagebin.ca/view/eL-M9KQz.html. 2. Then I get password prompt to entery passphrase for a new volume. 3. After that nothing happens any more. Debugging shows that udevd behaves wierdly by endlessly spawning multiple children. I've made a workaound by killing udevd and restarting it in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/cryptroot -- Package-specific info: -- initramfs sizes -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 12M Jul 31 12:23 /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64 -- /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/vg0stronghold-root_crypt ro quiet quiet -- resume RESUME=/dev/mapper/vg0stronghold-swap_crypt -- /proc/filesystems ext3 ext2 xfs fuseblk -- lsmod Module Size Used by ppdev 5030 0 lp 7462 0 binfmt_misc 6431 1 xt_TCPMSS 2919 1 ip6table_filter 2384 1 ip6_tables 15075 1 ip6table_filter act_police 3636 0 cls_flow5948 0 cls_fw 3513 0 cls_u32 5466 0 sch_htb11942 0 sch_hfsc 12119 0 sch_ingress 1624 0 sch_sfq 4686 0 xt_time 1723 0 xt_connlimit2863 0 xt_realm 919 0 iptable_raw 1867 0 xt_comment 907 31 xt_recent 5977 0 xt_policy 2170 0 ipt_ULOG7129 7 ipt_REJECT 1953 4 ipt_REDIRECT 0 ipt_NETMAP 1137 0 ipt_MASQUERADE 1554 0 ipt_ECN 1672 0 ipt_ecn 1272 0 ipt_CLUSTERIP 4910 0 ipt_ah 1061 0 ipt_addrtype1769 3 nf_nat_tftp 966 0 nf_nat_snmp_basic 7796 0 nf_nat_sip 4934 0 nf_nat_pptp 2034 0 nf_nat_proto_gre1245 1 nf_nat_pptp nf_nat_irc 1366 0 nf_nat_h323 5095 0 nf_nat_ftp 2031 0 nf_nat_amanda 1144 0 ts_kmp 1623 5 nf_conntrack_amanda 2197 1 nf_nat_amanda nf_conntrack_sane 3620 0 nf_conntrack_tftp 3321 1 nf_nat_tftp nf_conntrack_sip 13546 1 nf_nat_sip nf_conntrack_proto_sctp 6238 0 nf_conntrack_pptp 3801 1 nf_nat_pptp nf_conntrack_proto_gre 3579 1 nf_conntrack_pptp nf_conntrack_netlink13128 0 nf_conntrack_netbios_ns 1282 0 nf_conntrack_irc3347 1 nf_nat_irc nf_conntrack_h323 36992 1 nf_nat_h323 nf_conntrack_ftp5537 1 nf_nat_ftp xt_TPROXY 1329 0 nf_tproxy_core 1549 1 xt_TPROXY,[permanent] xt_tcpmss 1401 0 xt_pkttype 1003 0 xt_physdev 1508 0 xt_owner1063 0 xt_NFQUEUE 1989 0 xt_NFLOG1038 0 nfnetlink_log 7000 1 xt_NFLOG xt_multiport2267 6 xt_MARK 917 1 xt_mark 917 0 xt_mac 979 0 xt_limit1782 0 xt_length 1164 0 xt_iprange 1433 0 xt_helper 1227 0 xt_hashlimit7707 0 xt_DSCP 1995 0 xt_dscp 1611 0 xt_dccp 1915 0 xt_conntrack2407 10 xt_CONNMARK 1267 0 xt_connmark 1123 0 xt_CLASSIFY 925 0 ipt_LOG 4518 0 xt_tcpudp 2319 27 xt_state1303 0 iptable_nat 4299 0 nf_nat 13388 12 ipt_REDIRECT,ipt_NETMAP,ipt_MASQUERADE,nf_nat_tftp,nf_nat_sip,nf_nat_pptp,nf_nat_proto_gre,nf_nat_irc,nf_nat_h323,nf_nat_ftp,nf_nat_amanda,iptable_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 9833 13 iptable_nat,nf_nat nf_defrag_ipv4 1139 2 xt_TPROXY,nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_conntrack 46551 31 xt_connlimit,ipt_MASQUERADE,ipt_CLUSTERIP,nf_nat_tftp,nf_nat_snmp_basic,nf_nat_sip,nf_nat_pptp,nf_nat_irc,nf_nat_h323,nf_nat_ftp,nf_nat_amanda,nf_conntrack_amanda,nf_conntrack_sane,nf_conntrack_tftp,nf_conntrack_sip,nf_conntrack_proto_sctp,nf_conntrack_pptp,nf_conntrack_proto_gre,nf_conntrack_netlink,nf_conntrack_netbios_ns,nf_conntrack_irc,nf_conntrack_h323,nf_conntrack_ftp,xt_helper,xt_conntrack,xt_CONNMARK,xt_connmark,xt_state,iptable_nat,nf_nat,nf_conntrack_ipv4 iptable_mangle 2817 1 nfnetlink 2398 2 nf_conntrack_netlink,nfnetlink_log iptable_filter 2258 1 ip_tables 13899 4

Bug#591039: git: Depends on libdigest-sha1-perl, but does not use it

I search for Digest:: in the source package, but only found references to Digest::MD5. Even in case I missed something, the dependency should be removed. Bug#550608: Speed patch for blobwars
On Tue, Jul 27, 2010 at 05:06:24PM +0200, Guus Sliepen wrote: perhaps it would be better to change the maps in those places to return it to the original difficulty level without needing to decrease the speed. What do you think about this? And I forgot to mention, there are some bugs introduced by the speed increase. For example, you can get stuck in the right wall of the aqualung blob level. Bob can move too far into the wall, after which he can no longer go left or right, but only up or down. Because of such unexpected problems, I would certainly go for holding Bob on his old relative speed, and increasing the game's speed as a whole. Note that with my restore speed patch, some horizontal jumps become very hard (you have to jump at exactly the right pixel. In particular, the entire staircase in Ice Cave 1 is like that. It may be a good idea to slightly increase the maximum speed in ice levels because of this. I'm not sure what value it originally had. Thanks, Bas signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#590932: kvirc: ignore script broken
Fixed upstream in https://svn.kvirc.de/kvirc/changeset/4720 Let me try to summarize the problem and the chosen fix. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1) you ignore spammer!...@bbb.com , this mask will get into kvirc registered user database and will be used to match the user; 2) some time ago, you see the same spammer nickname, but he's not matching his previous mask anymore (so kvirc is not ignoring him and the popup offers you the ability to do it); 3) you try to ignore it again, but kvirc shouts at you telling that a registered user with the same nickname already exists. Chosen fix: When trying to ignore (or, in a more general term, to add a registered user) a user whose nickname is already present in the registered users database, just add the new mask to the already existing user. This is accomplished using the -f switch to the reguser.add kvs command. Fabio Bas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#590126: [Pkg-tcltk-devel] Bug#590126: rcmdr: FTBFS on mips{, el}: Error : package 'tcltk' could not be loaded
Sergei Golovan sgolo...@nes.ru writes: Hi, On Sat, Jul 31, 2010 at 8:49 AM, Shane McDonald mcdonald.sh...@gmail.com wrote: Mips and mipsel definitely have Tcl/Tk. Investigating a little further, I tried building rcmdr on a mipsel system with tcl8.5 and tk8.5 present, but it still gave the same errors that you saw. But maybe it needs r-base to have been compiled with them present? Just wild speculation, I really don't know anything about these packages. I've looked through the config.log after the ./configure run (for r-base) and found the following error message during testing for Tcl/Tk usability: configure:32106: checking whether compiling/linking Tcl/Tk code works configure:32144: gcc -std=gnu99 -o conftest -g -O2 -fpic -I/usr/include/tcl8.5 -I/usr/include/tcl8.5 conftest.c -ldl -lm -L/usr/lib -ltcl8.5 -L/usr/lib -ltk8.5 -lX11 -lXss -lXext 5 /usr/bin/ld: non-dynamic relocations refer to dynamic symbol Tk_Init /usr/bin/ld: failed to set dynamic section sizes: Bad value collect2: ld returned 1 exit status configure:32144: $? = 1 configure: failed program was: (the failing program is attached). It seems that r-base hit bug #519006 (see [1]). It's a bug in gcc-4.4, and it's unlikely that Tcl/Tk itself can do something to it. yeah, r-base is hitting this bug. As a _workaround_, you can patch the r-base package with the joined patch. It'll disable the '-g' flag when running the configure test. With that, the tcltk.so lib is generated (and thus the tcl/tk deps are there too). Please note that I've not tested if the R tcl/tk stuff is working, I've only checked that the lib was built. Hi Yves-Alexis, I draw your attention to: http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/developer-duties.html#upstream-coordination Specifically the second sentence of the first paragraph, which you appear to have forgotten, where it says: You have to forward these bug reports to the upstream developers... I note that the construction have to should probably read as MUST instead, as per RFC usage, but it is reasonably definite even as it is. If we start discouraging bugs on the basis that we're rather busy, then the knowledge contained in the bugs will be lost, and will be unavailable to others who find the same bug. Since you are confident that it's an upstream issue, it is to your advantage to have it recorded in the BTS and marked as forwarded upstream, as that should prevent the next person to find it from bothering you, and you never know, it might even get fixed. It's already extremely nice that initramfs-tools allows adding hook/boot scripts to /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks/ and /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/ in addition to /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/ and /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/. IMO it would be even nicer, if those in /etc override those in /usr. E.g. you have in the package lvm2 the following scripts: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/lvm2 /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 Now the way they work may not fit my custom setup so I add: /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks/lvm2 /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm2 If the later exists than the corresponding hook-script (of the same name) in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/ should not run and the corresponding boot script in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/ should not be copied to the initramfs image. It would however be nice, if a warning (for each of them) is printed when generating the initramfs. Otherwise users might accidentally override important scripts :) Cheers, Chris. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#588036: intent to NMU
Hi, I uploaded the debdiff at: http://people.debian.org/~nion/nmu-diff/lxr-cvs-0.9.5+cvs20071020-1_0.9.5+cvs20071020-1.1.patch to DELAYED/2. Please note that I did not close 585412 (CVE-2010-1738) with this patch since I believe this to be a duplicate of CVE-2010-1448. I checked back with mitre on this one. Dear apt maintainer, do you think it's acceptable to have apt-listchanges file in the same location as of those of apt? that's /var/lib/apt/listchanges.db /etc/apt/listchanges.conf apt-listchanges can be seen as an extension of apt, and it has a strict depends on it, so without apt it won't be on a user system; That said, I find it appropriate to have those files in the location where they are now, and I'd like to hear from you your opinion. That's OK for me, under the following rules: A package may write to /var/*/apt/ under the following conditions: * Its package name is apt-foo * The files created are named foo* * The location is already in use by a package in Debian stable prior to 2010-07-31 (and APT maintainers did not ask you to stop using it) or the use of the location was agreed on by the APT maintainers. Bug#591059: RM: lxr -- RoQA; security bugs, oooold upstream version, not properly maintained
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Hi, I hereby request the removal of lxr from the archive, it should not be included in squeeze as well. The version that our package is currently based on is 0.3 (from 2003), which is light years behind upstream, has security bugs and not properly maintained. See e.g. #588138 and #585411. Probably #575745 affects lxr as well, hard to tell though, the code heavily differs since it's so old. There has been no move from the maintainer towards packaging current upstream versions and given the small number of popcon installations this doesn't have an impact on many users. Bug#591016: flash-kernel: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/flash_kernel_set_root mis-detects root filesystems for systems using ubifs

Maybe. In the meantime, you can simply dpkg --purge flash-kernel if your kernel is on ubifs. I could, but flash-kernel is useful for knowing the correct incantation of uboot-mkimage's mkimage for my architecture. Otherwise, i'd have to track the generation of /boot/uImage myself, which seems like a poor tradeoff. i also note that there is no command in flash-kernel for the guruplug to actually write the kernel to NAND storage -- it generates uImage and uInitrd, but does not store them to /dev/mtd1 as i'd expect something like: nandwrite /dev/mtd1 /boot/uImage But i understand not everyone would necessarily arrange the NAND on the GuruPlug in the same way. Perhaps we could verify that: fw_printenv x_bootcmd_kernel emits: x_bootcmd_kernel=nand read.e 0x640 0x10 0x40 since in that case, the nandwrite command is more likely to be correct. --dkg signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

So I'm maintaining evolution the better I can. If it's not enough, then you're gladly welcome to help, really. You have to forward these bug reports to the upstream developers... I note that the construction have to should probably read as MUST instead, as per RFC usage, but it is reasonably definite even as it is. If we start discouraging bugs on the basis that we're rather busy, then the knowledge contained in the bugs will be lost, and will be unavailable to others who find the same bug. I'm not discouraging but reports. I ask people to file relevant bugs upstream because that's where they belong. If they file it in Debian too, that's even better (and bonus points for filing them with the according “forwarded-to”). But upstream is where the (upstream) bugs will be fixed, not here, so it's faster to file issues upstream than to wait for me to do it. Since you are confident that it's an upstream issue, it is to your advantage to have it recorded in the BTS and marked as forwarded upstream, as that should prevent the next person to find it from bothering you, and you never know, it might even get fixed. Bug#550608: Speed patch for blobwars
On Sat, Jul 31, 2010 at 01:02:07PM +0200, Bas Wijnen wrote: And I forgot to mention, there are some bugs introduced by the speed increase. For example, you can get stuck in the right wall of the aqualung blob level. Bob can move too far into the wall, after which he can no longer go left or right, but only up or down. Ok, this is caused by a LINEDEF in the map which is meant to prevent Bob from going in the alcoves. The line is too thin I think, but I have now removed it completely. This allows you to enter the alcove, but this is completely harmless, and doesn't give you any benefit. -- Met vriendelijke groet / with kind regards, Guus Sliepen g...@debian.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#585411: RM: lxr -- RoQA; security bugs, oooold upstream version, not properly maintained
On 07/31/2010 04:38 PM, Nico Golde wrote: Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Hi, I hereby request the removal of lxr from the archive, it should not be included in squeeze as well. No. please wait. I agree that there are problems but: - I would not include it squeeze anyway - let go before the security fixes in lxr, than we could see if we could remove it. BTW most of security bugs are only in lxr-cvs, which is an enhancement of lxr with other upstreams. One of the enhancement was to allow cross-referencing many languages, thus doing indirect regex and other more complex tasks, inducing such errors. LXR instead has hardcoded C decoding, and it seems with many less errors. For now I would remove lxr and lxr-cvs from squeeze, and I'll ask upstream what are their plan, and probably I propose to remove also lxr-cvs. ciao cate PS: I would use some debconf time to improve the situation so that users will not have security problem after we remove the packages. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#591066: uswsusp: s2ram does not suspend (poweroff) after upgrading from lenny
Package: uswsusp Version: 0.8-1.2+b1 Severity: important Tags: d-i On lenny I had a working s2ram / s2both with parameters --force --acpi_sleep 1 --vbe_mode (2.6.26-*-openvz kernel in lenny). This is an unknown desktop PC: # s2ram -n Machine unknown This machine can be identified by: sys_vendor = System manufacturer sys_product = System Product Name sys_version = Rev 1.xx bios_version = 0302 After upgrading to squueze/sid neither the hibernate (s2disk) nor the suspend (s2ram) function works, i.e. after s2disk the power returned and the system was rebooted (successfully). I have found the solution for s2disk: the value of shutdown_method in uswsusp.conf should be changed from platform to shutdown. However, s2ram still switches the power back: the power led goes off for a moment but then the system resumes, i.e. the suspend process does not complete. As I noticed the version of uswsusp was 0.7-???, so I have tried to upgrade it by downloading manually the latest available version from the pool: 0.8-1.2+b1. However, there was not any advance in solving the problem.
