Bug#611878: rssh mkchroot.sh sample script broken

2011-02-03 Thread Erich Liebmann
Package: rssh
Version: 2.3.2-13

The mkchroot.sh sample script that comes with package rssh relies on
ldd to determine the shared library dependencies subject to be copied to
the chroot environment. Unfortunately ldd reports an incomplete list of
shared library dependencies since the introduction of Virtual Dynamic Shared
Objects (linux-vdso.so).

# ldd /usr/bin/scp
linux-vdso.so.1 = (0x7fff4bdff000)
libc.so.6 = /lib/libc.so.6 (0x7fcaa7e31000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7fcaa83a8000)
#

Kindly adjust the mkchroot.sh script to work on Linux systems with VDSO
enabled or advise (document) which commands can be used to determine the
full set of dynamic library dependencies required for manual creation of the
chroot environment.

Best Regards
Erich

Bug#436339: VLC and the screensaver inhibition in Debian Squeeze

2011-02-03 Thread Hadrien DUSSUEL

Hello,
I've read the bug report about the screensaver because it cause me
trouble. I'm relatively new to debian (less than a year), so i wonder
what will happens with VLC in Squeeze ? Actually, 1.1.5 is in
experimental to fix the bug, but will it reach Squeeze in the near
future ? Or will you force users to upgrade manually this package ?

Thanks you for an explanation,

I can reproduce this difference without the utempter library (though it's
possible that the problem is related to ifdef's for it). I'll look for a
solution and close out #268 soon (have been busy setting up new development
machines).

hmm - my quick check without was also without setgid, so there was no
utmp entry.

Reading the source for login, I see that the error message comes from a
check (a) not running as root and (b) no valid utmp entry found.

Given that, the likely explanation is that login is dropping the setuid
itself. I don't see that in the unpatched source, but see comments in the
Debian patch which indicate that's intended behavior.

Looks like a possible workaround would be to use sudo or other wrapper
that holds the setuid behavior.

Bug#551359: Processed: maraDNS and openvpn

2011-02-03 Thread Alberto Gonzalez Iniesta
Hi Nicholas,

Please do so.

There's not much to discuss. Services start following an order that fits
most of the users. But not all. In those cases, humans are required to
make changes to the system in order to suit their needs.

It seems that maraDNS needs to start after Openvpn if it wishes to use
the TUN/TAP interface. Then the system administrator should ajust his
system to make this happen. No more, no less.

It's not a bug in OpenVPN that maraDNS behaves this way (bind starts
using a new network interface when it pops up). But that's just a
feature. So either this bug should be a wishlist, or not at all.
And in any case, it's not openvpn's bug.

IMHO the best solution was already given by Ansgar Burchardt.

I wonder if you have had this issue with any other services.

Bug#611891: please give apt.conf.d option to disable ipv6

2011-02-03 Thread Marc Haber
Package: apt
Version: 0.8.10.3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

at home, I get IPv6 connectivity via a tunnel, which is (a) slow and
(b) uses third-party resources that are generously made available free
of charge. I don't want to overuse these resources while still
remainig able to use IPv6 for chatting and VPN purposes.

I therefore do _not_ want to disable IPv6 entirely, but I still do
want apt to do its download over the fast and cheap IPv4 link.

Please consider implementing an option to disable ipv6 for apt only.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#611326: Further information

2011-02-03 Thread Edmund Eyles

I have now discovered that when the panel gets into this spin, it can be
stopped by opening the panel properties and changing it from 'Normal
height' to 'Full height'. This causes the vertical panel to expand to
fit the height of the screen. The juddering stops, and the CPU usage of
the panel process drops to what I presume is normal: 1.5% - 2%. (I find
it a little odd that the process is not more idle.)

I have to say I am seriously considering ditching XFCE because of this
problem. I reported the bug 6 days ago, and there has been no
acknowledgement or response other than automated replies from your
system. There is no indication of the status of this bug within your
system. The bug has not found its way through to XFCE's bug tracking
system. I can conclude only that you are not maintaining this within
Debian.

Now its just a question of allocating time for doing it. Can easily take

Package: varnish
Version: 2.1.3-7~bpo50+1

Hi,

when I run 'varnishstat', I cannot freeze the output by pressing Ctrl-S.
I can do it eg. in 'top' without any problems, but in varnishstat, this
just has no effect. This is in the same xterm session on the same
machine.

The problem makes using cutpaste impossible, as updates come faster
than I can do the cutpaste operation, and each updates destroys the
markers for the area.

Being a newbie, I think I posted my original report to the wrong place,
so here's a link to it:

Summary: the current sudo has (what I view as) a serious regression
which will break stuff, at least possibly any instance of
sudo (X11 program)
with default configuration.

I'm also pretty sure that it's too late, but still worth a try.

Bug#611896: debuild: would be nice to have -aarch in rules mode

2011-02-03 Thread Loïc Minier
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.69
Severity: wishlist

Hey

I was a debclean user, but just realized that debuild clean would be
good enough most of the time. debclean[1] and debuild clean wont take
the -a flag, which is basically needed for dpkg-architecture by
debuild when calling dpkg-buildpackage or by dpkg-buildpackage itself.

It would be nice if debuild clean would take a -a argument setting the
dpkg-architecture vars (as it does when calling dpkg-buildpackage).

For now, I'll be using: debuild -aarch -Tclean, which is pretty
 close.

   Thanks!

[1] debclean -a flag is reported as Debian #575513

I would sponsor this if the release team acks that it is still possible.

Let's do that for 6.0.1. You can upload it, but it won't hit squeeze
at this point.

The fetch-and-build fix can also be included in a future .1 upload, so you're
not stuck with that bug for the uploads thereafter.

Yes, this works:

Bug#611897: cryptsetup: tries should default to 0, at least for devices required to boot

2011-02-03 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.2.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

It seems tries functionallity is back in the most recent version, having a
default of 3.

This should be changed to 0 IMHO, at least for those devices that are
required to boot (root and resume filesystems), as it makes no sense
for them to just stop trying after some failures.

Chris.

Bug#611898: adduser: manpage mentions nonexistent possibility to run custom scripts

2011-02-03 Thread Ludwig Ortmann
Package: adduser
Version: 3.110
Severity: normal

The description paragraph of the manpage says:
They are friendlier front ends to the low level tools like useradd,
groupadd and usermod programs, by default choosing Debian policy
conformant UID and GID values, creating a home directory with skeletal
configuration, running a custom script, and other features.

As far as I can tell (I looked around the code a little) adduser does
not provide the mentioned possibility to run custom scripts.
If this is indeed the case the passage should be removed from the
manpage.
Otherwise the manpage should provide documentation where to put / how to
use such scripts.

Bug#611899: python2.5 + openssl + xen-utils + squeeze = No module named _md5

2011-02-03 Thread john
Package: python2.5
Version: 2.5.5-11
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Have just started upgrading this xen server (dom0) from Lenny to Squeeze.

= xm has broken - no domU can be brought up from the command line

The problem appears to be that xen-utils depends on python2.5, but python2.5 no
longer
provides the md5 module. Google suggests that this is due to changes in
openssl, but
I am unable to confirm that.

The error message from any invocation of xm is:

No module named _md5

The error can also be reproduced directly in the python2.5 interpreter.
It does not exist in the python2.6 interpreter.

Bug#611519: aria2: only uses first dns server in /etc/resolv.conf, if the one fails then aria2c cannot resolve domain names

2011-02-03 Thread Tatsuhiro Tsujikawa
Hi,

I tried to reproduce the issue but I could not so far.
What I did is:
I added unreachable DNS server address to my /etc/resolv.conf, before
2 entries of working DNS servers.
Then I ran aria2c with 2 configurations: --async-dns=true and --async-dns=false.
In both cases, aria2c first tried false DNS server, so there is some
delay, but it eventually used working
one and download success.
Tested with 1.10.0, 1.10.9 and master branch.

Best regards,

Tatsuhiro Tsujikawa

I agree. But if you look at how it is setup (and RInside does the same) that
is how it always worked. And that is unlikely to change. It has worked for me
and many others for many years.

So I fear you have to put your libraries in a known constant location, or use
explicit location info in a call to library() when you load them.

Sorry but that is unlikely to change any time soon.

| |
| | I ran r with the strace utility to see if it

| |
| | I was unable to ascertain where r got the 2.10

| |
| | I'd be interested in your informed thoughts.

Bug#611900: cutycapt: generates empty file if URL doesn't start with http://

2011-02-03 Thread Ricardo Mones
Package: cutycapt
Version: 0.0~svn6-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

Trying to generate a PDF from --url=example.com produces one with one
blank page and no error or warning is issued. Using --url=http://example.com
instead does work.

If URLs must be fully written and no protocol will be assumed (as the manpage
seems to suggest) then an error message should be generated for those which
don't provide one.

Anyway, from a user POV I think is usually expected that these URLs without
protocol fallback to http, and is also better than issuing the error and make
the user to retype the command :)

Bug#611901: gnupg: Can't create lock on readonly filesystem

2011-02-03 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.10-4
Severity: normal

I keep some keyrings on a read-only partition, and all gpg is able to
tell me is this:
gpg: failed to create temporary file
`/some/path/.gnupg/.#lk0x25c6960.jigen.7598': Read-only file system
gpg: fatal: can't create lock for `/some/path/.gnupg/trustdb.gpg'
secmem usage: 0/0 bytes in 0/0 blocks of pool 0/32768

Considering the filesystem is readonly there is no need for a lock file,
especially when all that is asked is --list-keys or --fingerprint.
Considering the error (EROFS) is very distinguishable from other
readonly or failure cases, gpg could detect it and still act without a
lock.

 Kind regards

That should then also go to security, at least the 2 packages with

As far as I can tell (I looked around the code a little) adduser does

If this is indeed the case the passage should be removed from the

Otherwise the manpage should provide documentation where to put / how to
 use such scripts.

Search in adduser(8) for /usr/local/sbin/adduser.local. But it does
seem to me that this useful feature should probably also be mentioned
under FILES.

Suggested patch attached; my nroff seems okay but may need tweaking.

Bug#611899: thank you jakub - bug fixed

Following on from your suggestions, I went looking for any out of date

Turns out that there was a libcrypto.so.0.9.8 which was being found, and which
was not updated by aptitude.

Moved it to another directory where it would not be found, the problem went
away.
So this bug can be closed - which is excellent, particularly so close to the
proposed release!

Thank you very much for your prompt response, Jakub.

would
release libdmtcpaware.so.1.0.1 or libdmtcpaware.so.1.1.0 SONAME should
remain the same, thus different from actual version... usually only the
'major' version is included in SONAME, i.e. for god sake of convenience it
should be been libdmtcpaware.so.1 or, if you foresee often breakage of
ABI,
libdmtcpaware.so.1.0 (ie major.minor) at most

Also version part of SONAME (i.e. SOVERSION) should usually match version
in package name, which is libdmtcpaware1 ;-)

Bug#611906: libgssapi-krb5-2: GSS-API provides invalid key (?) to nsupdate

2011-02-03 Thread Michael Kuron
Package: libgssapi-krb5-2
Version: 1.8.3+dfsg-4
Severity: important

When running nsupdate (from dnsutils/bind) with the -g flag to sign a dynamic
DNS update request using GSS-API,
the DNS server (a Microsoft DNS on Windows 2008 R2) refuses the request,
claiming that the key is bad.
The solution is to compile krb5-1.7.1 from source and set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/krb5-1.7/lib before running
nsupdate so that it uses the older version of the Kerberos libraries. Compiling
Kerberos 1.8.3 (or any earlier
1.8 release) from source does not help and exhibits the same error.
My Kerberos server is Active Directory on Windows 2008 R2.

The maintainer, Ludovic Drolez, responded to this bug report 3 weeks ago [1]
 and
indicated that he was uploading a new version. It would have been rude (and
contra to Debian policy) for me to perform another NMU.

Yeah, I remember that.

I think a strong case can be made to have the patched atftpd package uploaded
 to
stable-proposed-updates for inclusion in the first point release as soon as
 the
 release occurs.

Yeah I sure hope so.

Ludovic, is there an upload forthcoming, or is it okay for me to upload an NMU
that includes Len's patch? I'm attaching the debdiff for the upload.

Thanks.

 would

should be been libdmtcpaware.so.1   or, if you foresee often breakage of
 ABI,
    libdmtcpaware.so.1.0 (ie major.minor) at most

Bug#611907: Simple fix for MD5 mis-match problem

2011-02-03 Thread Andrey Mitrofanov

Package: postal
Version: 0.70
Severity: normal

I've just seen that rabid ran to fetch mails sent by postal
reports MD5 mis-match on every one of them.

It seems the problem is that the two programs are checksumming
two _different_ sets of data. Postal summing subj+msgid+date header
lines and the message body while rabid compares it to only subj+body
hash. Simple patch -

Bug#611908: namebench: tries to launch google chrome (which is not in debian)

2011-02-03 Thread Jason Woofenden
Package: namebench
Version: 1.3.1+dfsg-1
Severity: important

Awesome program!

When it was done it failed to show the results, and instead said:

Error showing url: Failed to execute child process
/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome (No such file or directory)

in the calling terminal.

The graphical interface says nothing about this, and displays the
public URL in a way that cannot be clicked or even selected.

Fortunately it also printed the location of the generated html file
in the terminal, so I was able to see my results (by pasting into
my browser and prepending file://.)

I can see in the Query Data Source pulldown that namebench
correctly detected three browsers I have installed (Chromium,
Firefox, Midori). Now it's just gotta use one of those to display
the results, instead of failing to find a non-free browser.

I selected Chromium as the data source, in case that's relevant.

Thank you, - Jason

Bug#607177: mountnfs: nolock test for portmap seems not to be enough

2011-02-03 Thread Marcin Szewczyk
I would like to confirm this bug.

The optimization near the 53rd line of /etc/network/if-up.d/mountnfs
seams to cause problems.

70-second delay here as well. Two messages during boot stating:
rpcbind: server localhost not responding, timed out

Adding start_nfs=yes at line 55 seams to help. But then the whole block
checking for nolock option is obsolete.

Bug#435375: About some issues in php_rrdtool.tar.gz

2011-02-03 Thread Dario Minnucci

Hi Joe and Jeffrey,

My name Is Dario Minnucci [0], and I intend to package php5-rrdtool [1] to be
part of the official
Debian distribution and I'm contacting you as your email addresses are listed
on some files.

I've downloaded sources [2] and successfully built a debian package
(php5-rrdtool), but I faced a
few issues preventing me to upload the result to the official Debian repository.

I'll be glad if you can answer to any of these:

 * Via phpinfo() I've got the module version 1.2.x, is there any other
repository apart from [2], I can use to track versions?

 * Is there any update for the version I'm working with (1.2.x)?
