Bug#248674: Boost and pkg-config support

2011-02-28 Thread Steve M. Robbins

The rationale (from http://wiki.debian.org/ToolChain/DSOLinking)
is to detect situations where

your executable links against a library A which links against
library B, but your executable needs symbols in library B. This is
problematic in the situation where library A removes its
dependency to library B. The next time the executable gets rebuild
it will break and cannot be linked.

I think that pkg-config style dependency information is also helpful
for people using static linking.

The version you quote (which is not yet in testing) provides sha256sum. Is
that not sufficient then?

Actually, what causes prospective maintainers to refrain from packaging
that software, is when their packaging is ignored for 14 months and then
the ticket changed from ITP to RFP.

The original packaging is still available at

http://ray.starjuice.net/e1000e/e1000e_1.1.2-1_i386.changes
http://ray.starjuice.net/e1000e/e1000e_1.1.2-1.dsc

There is NO point encouraging someone else to waste more effort on this,
when no Debian developer is interested.

I don't really see the point. When you add the optional tag, you can
surely also add the alternate dependency in the file.

What is missing however is a way to have that alternate dependency
embed the strict versioning scheme. For this we need to support a new
#CURVER# substitution that is replaced with the current version so that
we can keep the associated dependency in sync with the latest version of
the package.

Filing this as a wishlist bug.

Bug#615857: open-iscsi init script refers to udevsettle which, is not part of squeeze

Dear Ritesh Raj Sarraf,

you are completely right. It is my fault. The regression is caused
by my FAI installation script that overwrites /etc/init.d/open-iscsi
with a slightly customized version. The template for this file dates
back to the time when the bug was still present in the testing
distribution.

So, please close my bug report! Sorry for wasting your time.

Kind regards, Thomas

I booted into recovery mode and then tried to run startx which freezes things.

figure out how to get GRUB to let me boot into the old install of Lenny on the

I've got a broken collar bone so a mouse enabled method would be fine.
An aside - Isn't GRUB supposed to set up the menu to boot the old install?
It can see it but doesn't set up the menu.

80 characters long, only on lines starting with "linux". This problem
still exists, it's quite clearly NOT a serious level bug.

Regarding the booting problems, it was caused by libc6 having a broken
ldd (see bug #615806) which caused problems for mkinitramfs which then
flowed on to borking the boot process.
grub.cfg looks the same before all this sadness happened and its working
so you can disregard the booting problem. I think I may of being
specifying an old initrd which was working which is why my grub command
line boots worked.

sorry for the false alarm, i never even though of checking ldd worked.

Bug#615937: docbookwiki: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2011-02-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: docbookwiki
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for docbookwiki.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading docbookwiki with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, March 04, 2011, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Friday, March 25, 2011. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Saturday, March 26, 2011, I will contact you again and will send a final
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Hm, indeed. This dependency was supposed to be dropped after Lenny (see
#453908), but this did not happen (yet).

> Hence, there's no need to pull in libxine1-x by hand.

Packages that need plugins from libxine1-x are supposed to depend on it,
precisely so that the dependency of libxine1 on libxine1-x could be
dropped ("after Lenny").

Only for binaries that link against libxine.so.1, not for those loading
plugins from libxine1-x (or libxine1-console).

The alternate dependency on libxine1 (<< 1.1.8-2) should just be
dropped, it is only there for partial upgrades from Etch to Lenny.

Indeed, all the useful files have been moved to a new package named
libxine1-bin, supposedly to fix circular dependencies (see #454267).
If/when #453908 gets fixed, they should probably be moved back to
libxine1 since having a library in a -bin package is rather weird.

Fine with me, but I think the actual problem is that #453908 was not
dealt with.

OK, thanks. I just checked out the mach-type setting for kernel images
here http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Buffalo_ARM9_Kernel_Port
It's sad it isn't autodetected. Still, I managed to install Debian via
the installer with your image, and these tweaks.

I can help for that. I have serial console access and I'm ready to try
different builds. BTW, there's nothing to flash (appart from kernel boot
prameters) on the Mini as the kernel is loaded directly from the disk
(images must be present on both sda1 and sdb1, on an ext2/3 FS).

I'm still trying to figure out the correct uboot-envtools (fw_setenv)
parameters to change the bootargs from Debian.

Could you brief me on what's --as-needed, why is it needed, and why
does it break a perfect model of "I link to shared library foo, and
whatever dependecies are used automatically".

Oh, using autolink headers to extract dependency information is cute.

Well, this is obviously somewhat messy. Another alternative approach is
to have dependency information extracted by Boost.Build -- which obviously
knows what other libraries any given one is linked to.

However, I still would like to understand why this is becoming more important
now. For all I could tell, with our current naming scheme (without compiler
and other decoration in library name), and with dynamic linking, you should
be able to just say -lboost_whatever and it should work. What am I missing?

Bug#615936: lilo: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2011-02-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: lilo
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#256461: wondershaper: Option to limit range of rules?

2011-02-28 Thread Matt Taggart
Dietrich is right, wondershaper is intended to be run on the router, not
end points. That said, a user installing it on an endpoint would still get
some benefit out of it when talking to the internet, but like the original
reporter said at a cost to slowing down access to other systems on the same
LAN as the router.

I think the fix for this bug is

A) a big WARNING in the README that wondershaper is intended for use on
routers and while you can run it on a client and it will help, it will also
slow down access to other machines on the LAN

B) add support for only having the rules apply to the packets sent to the
gateway.

I think A is severity normal and B is wishlist. Both are things that could
be fixed upstream.

Bug#615934: debiandoc-sgml: postinst provokes warnings from sgml-base >= 1.99.0

2011-02-28 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: debhelper
Version: 8.1.2
Severity: minor
Justification: cosmetic
X-Debbugs-Cc: sgml-b...@packages.debian.org

Hi,

/usr/share/debhelper/autoscripts/postinst-sgmlcatalog contains:

if [ "$1" = "configure" ]; then
rm -f #CENTRALCAT#
for ordcat in #ORDCATS#; do
update-catalog --quiet --add #CENTRALCAT# ${ordcat}
done
update-catalog --quiet --add --super #CENTRALCAT#
fi

but the command is supposed to be called update-sgmlcatalog (see
Bug#88008) in wheezy (I think?). Rather than a smooth transition, we
get a package in experimental with the following change:

  * tools/update-catalog: Documented with POD. Renamed to
tools/update-sgmlcatalog (closes: #88008). Further changes:
- Enable Perl warnings.
- If called as update-catalog (compatibility), print a warning.
- Do not exit with an error using --help/--version (closes: #391609).
- Fixed --version to print the version and not the help.

so I actually don't know what one is supposed to do --- if you use the
new name, your packages won't work with sgml-base (<< 1.99.0), but if
you use the old name, your packages will look buggy with sgml-base
(>= 1.99.0) and drown out more meaningful messages.

But, um, I think you're supposed to do something. Could you talk it
over with Daniel?

Thanks much,
Jonathan

I'm not a Debian user currently, but consider switching to it in time.
Meanwhile, I can get Debian in dual-boot or VBox to test things out.

So, I'm agree to become a maintainer of rp-pppoe.

I suppose that now I should package latest upstream version of rp-pppoe and
upload it to unstable Debian archive with help of a sponsor?

Alexey.

okay, i'll take a look at doing something similar here then.

That was my impression, yeah.

Minor correction: the submodules are by default detached heads, so it's
more like a reset than a fast forward, afaik. I think the tricky part
is that the submodules in the upstream branch might != the submodules in
the debian branch, but i'll see if i can find a way to get that without
branch switching.

> Also we do we update the submodules at all before exporting them? Can't

afaik, the submodules in the upstream tree are statically defined
hashes, so if the upstream tree isn't updated then the hashes aren't
updated. but it's possible that the repo has been cloned and the
submodules are not yet fetched/available.

anyway i'll RTFM a little and see if i can come back with something new
along the lines that you've suggested.

Bug#615742: binutils gold fix for libdrumstick

Hi,

Just for the record: in Drumstick's source tree, directory "utils/vpiano", the
file CMakeLists.txt has the following lines defining the list of libraries that
need to be linked to that program:

TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES(drumstick-vpiano

The same policy was introduced in Fedora some time ago, and probably in other

You are wrong assuming that the variable QT_X11_X11_LIBRARY is deprecated in
CMake 2.8.1, or it is not available anymore. The CMake macros were reorganized,
and now this variable is set in Qt4ConfigDependentSettings.cmake [2] (lines
259-271) which is included from FindQt4.cmake [3], line 1035, and it is also
documented [4].

The attached CMakeLists.txt test file should work as expected. Here is the
output in my development machine:
$ cmake .

Hello,

Please package Docs and Demos directories --- either as a separate
cython-doc package or within the cython package. It should not be
necessary to go online to find out how to use cython!

Bug#615931: ucf hard-coding of debconf templates path incompatible with multiarch

2011-02-28 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: ucf
Version: 3.0025+nmu1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: vor...@debian.org
Usertags: multiarch

Hi Manoj,

ucf's use of a hard-coded path for its debconf templates file in
/var/lib/dpkg is incompatible with multiarch, which will create
/var/lib/dpkg/$arch subdirectories and store its state there. As a result,
debootstrapping a system using a multiarch-enabled dpkg now fails, since
rsyslog uses ucf, so this is fairly important to get fixed before multiarch
support lands in unstable.

I've applied the attached simple fix to ucf in Ubuntu for this issue, with
the following changelog:

  * Use dpkg-query --control-path instead of hard-coding a path to our
debconf templates file, for compatibility with multiarch.

Please apply to the Debian ucf package as well.

Note that the 'dpkg-query --control-path' interface was introduced in dpkg
1.15.4, and stable has 1.15.8.10, so I don't think a versioned dependency on
dpkg is needed here.

Thanks,

Hmm, ok. I'm seeing an almost identical backtrace when trying to run
Gwibber, but running with LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to use the non-nvidia
libGL "fixed" the problem for me.

"Recommends" would be a stretch, because it is perfectly reasonable to
use the package without enabling the custom scrobbling script.

Bug#615928: wireless-tools: iwconfig needs ap set *twice*

2011-02-28 Thread Johannes Schlumberger
Package: wireless-tools

Severity: important

When setting the ap for my wlan device I need to set it *twice* in order for
the essid to become visible. This renders wicd unusable since it only sets the
ap once and then fails to connect. Spamming manual iwconfig set ap commands in
between while wicd tries to connect fixes the problem.

Bug#615927: python-central: assumptions about dpkg db layout incompatible with multiarch

2011-02-28 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: python-central
Version: 0.6.15
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: vor...@debian.org
Usertags: multiarch

Hi guys,

python-central makes heavy reliance on the presence of
/var/lib/dpkg/info/$pkg.list to determine the installation status of $pkg.
In the multiarch world, this is no longer a valid assumption; status files
are going to be under /var/lib/dpkg/info/$arch/ instead for each
architecture. On a freshly-bootstrapped chroot using a multiarch-enabled
dpkg, therefore, python-central consistently fails to find any packages,
causing maintainer script failures.

The attached patch accounts for this in the most naive way possible, by
checking both /var/lib/dpkg/info and /var/lib/dpkg/info/$main_arch for the
requested file. There are various ways that this may still be incorrect,
but it's correct *enough* to make pycentral work again for native packages
on a multiarched system, and we're a long, long away from having to worry
about non-native python extension packages being installed (if, indeed, this
is ever permitted).

I've uploaded this change to Ubuntu with the following changelog:

  * Fix up for multiarch dpkg: /var/lib/dpkg/info/$pkg.list is now no longer
guaranteed to exist, it may be /var/lib/dpkg/info/$arch/$pkg.list.

Please apply this ASAP to the python-central package in Debian, or let me
know if you think this needs to be fixed a different way.

Thanks,

Sub::Exporter::GlobExporter is a Perl module that enables packages to share
glob references with other modules. This allows your module to be subclassed,
for the subclass to re-use the same glob when exporting, or to export a new
one. This scheme provides extensibility by returning a collection validator,
allowing arbitrary options to be passed to the globref locator.

I have spent some time trying to patch bjam and have no inclination to
spend any more time with that code. For Debian purposes, could we
obtain PREFIX and LIBDIR directly from debian/rules? (In fact, they
would be constants, of course). What about TEST_HEADER?

Bjam has a list of the libraries that are *compiled* to a so/dll. Is
that enough? The root of the problem [3] is inlined code and there's
no guarantee that a header-only library won't similarly inline
something that requires, say, -lboost_system.

Boost Developers: is there a machine readable list of libraries
somewhere in the boost source tree?

Thanks,

Bug#615922: dash: The "." builtin does not reset the value of $?

2011-02-28 Thread Timothy Allen
Package: dash
Version: 0.5.5.1-7.4
Severity: normal

Steps to reproduce:

$ cat /tmp/test.sh
false
. /dev/null
echo $?
$ dash /tmp/test.sh
1
$ bash /tmp/test.sh
0

The only reference I can find to POSIX behaviour of "." says[1]:

EXIT STATUS: Returns the value of the last command executed, or a zero
exit status if no command is executed.

In the above example, no command is executed (since /dev/null is empty) but the
resulting exit status is not zero; in fact, it's left-over from the invocation
of "false". For the record, "busybox sh" behaves the same way as dash, as does
posh.

I came across this problem in a script that used "set -e". Here's
a slightly less minimal test-case:

$ cat /tmp/test2.sh
set -e
if false; then
echo "hello"
else
. /dev/null
fi
$ dash /tmp/test2.sh; echo $?
1

The "." builtin is treated as having failed, even though it was the condition
of the if statement that set $? to a non-zero value.

I don't include the 'unfinished' games in the package.

Bug#615654: ihu and a nmu

2011-02-28 Thread Miguel Colon
Hello:

I just uploaded it to mentors.debian.net:
Your upload of the package 'ihu' to mentors.debian.net was successful.
Sponsors can now download it. The URL of your package is:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/i/ihu

The respective dsc file can be found at:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/i/ihu/ihu_0.6.0-2.1.dsc

The test/things I did:
- Built with pbuilder in a clean sid chroot (i386/amd64)
- debdiff old deb with nmu to confirm no missing files and sane
looking control file.
- Lintian check it (could have updated the standard version but did not)
- Simplified rules file and made it 3.0 quilt since 98% of the diff
was auto-generated files (config.guess/config.sub/moc and others) and
it was FTBFS due to old autoreconf tools.
- CFLAGS and DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS get done by debhelper 7.
- Fixed clean routine to remove some auto-generated files that did not
get cleaned.
- Made sure to use the new soundtouch library.
- Installed/remove/purged and made sure it ran (never used it before
so it was a basic test of functionality).

I tried to keep the changes to a minimum since it's a NMU.

Please review it and make suggestions/edits. If it looks fine please
upload it. If it's bad just ignore it :) or inform me how can it be
improved.

Hope this helps,
Miguel

How do you start stumpwm? If you exec /usr/bin/stumpwm, it should
work. If you load stumpwm in repl, you have to (require "clx") first.
The module name must be downcase "clx", neither "CLX" nor :clx.

Bug#614440: alarm-clock: FTBFS: alarm_runner.h:33: error: 'alarm' redeclared as

2011-02-28 Thread peter green
As of right now this issue only seems to affect builds on sid not on
squeeze or wheezy.

The offending line is "GKeyFile *alarm;" which seems to conflict with a
new addition to the standard headers.

The strange thing is I can't seem to find any evidence that variable is
ever used either by grepping (admittedly grepping produced a LOT of
false positives so it's possible I missed something) or through removing
the declaration and attempting to build, install and run (I have not
tested functionality beyond whether the app starts or not). the package
(on squeeze, wheezy and sid).

The doc build calls dot -Tps2 which calls epstopdf; epstopdf is in
texlive-font-utils which is correctly a build-dep, but epstopdf calls
ghostscript which is only a Recommends of texlive-font-utils. Adding
an explicit build-dep on ghostscript fixes the FTBFS for me.

Thanks!

This, however, will cause a circular build-dependency.

Slitting off cdbs-doc as a separate source package could avoid that.

  Version : 5.8-1
  Upstream Author : Juergen Pfeifer
* URL : http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/ncurses/

  Programming Lang: Ada
Description : Ada binding for the ncurses text user interface library

NcursesAda allows programmers to use the Ncurses library within the Ada
language. This means programming panels, colors, forms in text terminals or
emulators.

This binding has been part of the ncurses source for a long time now, but
it was ignored in Debian since an Ada compiler is available on less
architectures than ncurses. The upstream authors have made a significant
effort in 5.8 release so that it may be packaged separately.

Ah, thank you -- sftp was one of the key things that I needed to reproduce
what you were doing. (I was trying scp, which had different symptoms.)

I've confirmed that the missing libnsl library causes those symptoms for
sftp and adding libnsl was the only change required to the chroot for sftp
to be happy again. The other libraries don't appear to be needed.

If you want to do Subversion, rsync, rdist, or CVS, more libraries will be
needed, but it looks like the script never handled that. I'm not sure
what to do about that, but for the next release I'll probably punt and
just fix the scp/sftp issue.

I'll upload a new package to unstable shortly. I also need to incorporate
the new upstream release.

It seems that upon passing the kernel boot parameter
"libata.force=40c" solves the problem. Should I still report this

Bug#615654: ihu and a nmu

2011-02-28 Thread Miguel Colon
Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for ihu (versioned as 0.6.0-2.1). I plan to
upload it to http://mentors.debian.net/ in the next few hours since I
have to finish running some of the test.

The reason for the NMU is that this package from my understanding is
currently blocking the ffmpeg/soundtouch transition:

Bug#615742: binutils gold fix for libdrumstick

Nop, you misunderstood the bug a bit. It does link on Debian or 0.5.0-1 would
not be in Debian testing. gold linker enables --no-add-needed by default and
that's typically the reason for packages to fail linking with it. Now ubuntu
enabled --as-needed by default and gcc maintainer is pushing this to debian
proper too.

So yes, the reason it's failing is that QT_X11_X11_LIBRARY is undefined and --
no-add-needed no longer looks the library up recursively. The code which sets
this variable was removed in cmake 2.8.1 by [1]. QT_X11_X11_LIBRARY falls out
of FindQt4.cmake scope.

You're right that current debian patch (courtesy by ubuntu) is a pure hack and
you nailed its deficiencies well. But you have the bug on your hands
nevertheless, it's not debian-specific bug. In order to fix this properly, do
find_package(X11) and use a proper variable which expands to X11 library
(iirc, X11_X11_lib).

Yeah, "git apply" is not supposed to segfault, period. :)

Tagging accordingly and lowering the severity, but I'd still like to
figure this out some time.

I’ve tested some more today, and strangely, I've not been able to
reproduce it at all today (even in the same directory (the "git rebase
--onto work work master" step), neither by doing exactly the steps
you've made above, and neither trying to retrace my steps following
.bash_history throws any errors today.

I know I've have gotten some hard drive issues (lots of sectors crashed
three years ago), thus it could have been the repo was partly on a
broken block, which was fixed during today’s boot.

As this might have been an local hardware technical issue, you might
want to close this bug as not a bug, unless the error should never have
happened in the first place, regardless of the health of the repo in
question.

Bug#615918: Depends on deprecated libeggdbus

2011-02-28 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libgnome-keyring
Version: 2.30.1-1
Severity: important

Hi,

(lib)eggdbus has been deprecated and replaced by GDBus.
libgnome-keyring is the last remaining package with a build-depends on
libeggdbus-1-dev.
While configure.in has a dependency on eggdbus-1 >= 0.4
I can't find any dependency in the actual code, so I guess the
pkg-config check can safely dropped.

The typo3 from backports depends on typo3-database which automatically installs
the mysql-server even if user wants to use postgresql (supported by typo3).

The non-backports typo3 package only recommends mysql-server which should be the

Bug#611894: varnishstat doesn't obey flow control (?!?)

Hi Toni,

I know this will not fix your bug, but might help anyways:

Try using:
 # varnishstat -1

By running varnishstat with the option "-1" you get the stats just once, so
that you can easily copy it or pipe it somewhere else or whatever.

hope this helps...

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Since upgrading to Squeeze, it seems like once a VPN connection is made,
that future connections fail. If the new connection is attempted within
the first few minutes of the first connection being made, then it
succeeds. But after 20 minutes, or so, new connections just don't work.
I have included an excerpt below of the daemon.log showing the
disconnection of a good connection, immediately followed by a new
connection attempt that fails. Looking at the log entries, it does not
seem that there is any evidence of a connection attempt. Executing
'/etc/init.d/ipsec restart' clears the condition and allows a new
connection to succeed.

Bug#533450: Nice!

2011-02-28 Thread Kushal Koolwal
I was about to write a long post on how to get the Poulsbo driver
working (with 3D) on Debian Squeeze using the native sources (non
EMGD) but I guess I will hold on to that (for now) since the kernel
component is in the staging trees.

I guess once those are stabilized in the kernel, we should be able to
do a xserver-xorg-video-psb package for Debian which was the original
intend for this bug report over 20 months ago -:)

Thanks for posting the LKML link, Mattia!

Bug#612710: pm-utils: split package to avoid conflicts

2011-02-28 Thread Piotr Szczepanik

> Have you actually read what I wrote in
> http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612710#29

Yes I have. I don't know which part of the comment you suppose I have
not read carefully enough but I guess it's the one about splitting the
package. But if you have read my comment you would have known that I
propose splitting the package in a different way than the one you have
mentioned.

Of course splitting it into pm-utils and pm-utils-modules would
require to have both packages installed to have basic functionality.
What I propose is splitting just the "power.d/*" part, so that after
splitting the package this way "pm-utils" would still retain 99% of
the functionality that "pm-utils" have currently (at 1.3.0-3) and if
one would want to have an extra of runtime power management that
person would have to install additional package. Without that package
installed pm-utils would still provide almost all of the functionality
it provided at 1.3.0-6.

You have also stated that you have contacted Martin regarding the
patch and although there is no file conflict right now there is still
a problem that the functionality overlaps. I also think that there is
a problem with it overlapping but proposed way of split would allow
99% of the former functionality of pm-utils to coexist with
laptop-mode-tools and people would have a choice of the package they
would use to control runtime power saving.

But... as I have also stated above what seems to be the best solution
to me does not have to actually be the best solution and I will not
stick to my idea stubbornly. :)

Bug#588752: review of patches, rebased to master

2011-02-28 Thread Sean Finney
okay, i've looked into things a bit more but i think it's doable. to
isolate the problem i've thrown together a simple shell script run on a
test repo to sanity check it (see below).

There's requirement about submodules matching is slightly more relaxed
now. the debian branch must have a superset of the submodules in the
upstream branch (at least i couldn't figure out a way to get ls-files to
work without cd'ing into the submodule... i suppose we could clone it to
an outside tempdir if it didn't exist). the submodules do not have to
be the same version or branch, but they do have to point at the same
remote (this might be a limitation in submodules themselves), and in
this code at least they must have everything already fetched (this could
be changed later, or at least caught). This works recursively too.

Anyway, now that I have a PoC and a general plan of attack, I guess
tomorrow I will take a stab at incorporating this into gbp proper!

#!/bin/sh

set -e

ubranch=master

ls_submodule() {
local prefix mode objtype hash name

  prefix="$1"

while read mode objtype hash name; do
fullname="${prefix:+$prefix/}$name"
if [ "$objtype" = "commit" ]; then
  echo $fullname:$hash
  ( cd $name 2>/dev/null &&
git ls-tree $hash | ls_submodule "$fullname"
  ) || ( echo "submodule $name not available?" >&2 && exit 1 )
fi
  done
}

submodules=`git ls-tree $ubranch | ls_submodule ""`
echo subs: $submodules

As a very unscientific test, I set up my development instance of b2 with
the live data shortly before tonight's run and ran it with the patch
applied. Both runs produced the same result in equivalent time (in fact
the run with the patch was ~15 seconds faster, presumably due to
external influences, phases of the moon, etc.)

This might be more of an issue with packages with a large number of
r-deps, but I think it may be worth resolving that if/when it arises.

there is an explicit exception in the license of opencsg:

the reason it says "License: GPL-2+" in the original opencsg bug report
is that there was no such exception until i discovered the problem
during packaging -- the upstream license and the debian package were
modified to reflect that since then.

Bug#615907: virt-manager: Fails to create networks

2011-02-28 Thread Michael Goetze
Package: virt-manager
Version: 0.8.4-8
Severity: important

In the host details of "localhost (QEMU)", I tried to create a new
virtual network. I set it to be isolated with no DHCP. In the dialog box
"Ready to create network", I get the following traceback every time I
click on "finish":

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/createnet.py", line 349, in

  File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/connection.py", line 730, in

libvirtError: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table filter --delete
INPUT --in-interface virbr1 --protocol udp --destination-port 69 --jump
ACCEPT' exited with non-zero status 1 and signal 0: iptables: Bad rule
(does a matching rule exist in that chain?).

I have no idea why libvirt tries to delete this rule, but whatever, I
created it. When I click on "finish" again, I get:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/createnet.py", line 349, in

self.conn.create_network(xml)
  File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/connection.py", line 730, in

status 2 and signal 0:
dnsmasq: failed to bind listening socket for 172.25.5.1: Address already
in use

So I stop my dnsmasq listening on 0.0.0.0, add that iptables rule
*again*, and then the network is finally created. I have no idea why
libvirt wants to start dnsmasq for a network without DHCP.

Anyway, this finally gets me a new network, but this is very ugly.

Bug#583476: license problem?

2011-02-28 Thread Joachim Reichel
I wonder whether there is a license problem: OpenSCAD has an exception for CGAL,
bug OpenCSG does not seems not to have such an exception.

Note that I haven't done a thorough analysis. Maybe CGAL and OpenSCAD are always
used exclusively. Maybe the QPL'd parts of CGAL are not used by OpenSCAD, but
why does it need an exception then?

I've actually reproduced it a few times. Unfortunately it is proving difficult
to get the full Oops stack trace out of it because klogd is altering the
/proc/sys/kernel/printk console log level and is stopping getting the
information to the console.

I've managed to change the logging level by booting using BOOT_DEBUG=3 and
applying the changes below but that seems to change the timing and the
problem doesn't occur. If you are able to rebuild the netboot image with

/sbin/klogd -c 7

in /lib/debian-installer-startup.d/S10syslog (normally it uses -c 2)

then that would mean that I could test it without having to use BOOT_DEBUG=3

Procedure for booting and manually tweaking S10syslog is as follows:

boot using

boot net BOOT_DEBUG=3

then use "exit" to leave the "just booted" debug shell

then in the "before init" debug shell run the following

cat > /lib/debian-installer-startup.d/S10syslog <

The doc build calls dot -Tps2 which calls epstopdf; epstopdf is in
 texlive-font-utils which is correctly a build-dep, but
epstopdf calls ghostscript which is only a Recommends of
texlive-font-utils. Adding an explicit build-dep on ghostscript fixes
 the FTBFS for me.
