Bug#618573: Needed some way to test whether we are on the console

2011-03-18 Thread Anton Zinoviev
On Thu, Mar 17, 2011 at 08:43:27PM +0100, Michael Schutte wrote:

It’s rather ugly, but can you confirm that

   # setfont -v -o /dev/null

 gives you the necessary information?

Thank you, it seems to work. And kbd_mode also seems to work.

Doesn't the following code do everything console-setup needs:

if kbd_mode 2/dev/null; then
configure_the_keyboard
if setfont -o /dev/null 2/dev/null; then
configure_the_font
fi
fi

If the answer is yes, then there is no need for special testing toos and
perhaps this bug can be closed.

Bug#618720: please use dpkg trigger facility instead of making packages depend on emacsen-common

2011-03-18 Thread Rob Browning
Gerfried Fuchs rho...@debian.org writes:

Actually, this exact case is what dpkg triggers were invented for.
Pretty please, with sugar on top, finally make use of them and then
please file bugreports against the reverse depends of emacsen-common to
tell people to drop the handling and let the dpkg trigger do its magic.

Actually, triggers won't work[1], but last summer, just before debconf,
I came up with a plan that I believe will work. However, I ended up
putting it off until after squeeze -- I plan to get back to it in a few
weeks.

The plan, assuming I was right, should allow us to remove the dependency
requirements entirely, and require only fairly minor changes to the
various add-on packages.

[1] or at least as they were defined when I last looked they wouldn't
work...

Thanks

Just a quick approximate wc(1) to see the proportions of what's in the
 file.

By the way, it would be neat to be able to list the images in a file
too. pdfimages just spits them out with no listing. Yes, there are other
tools one can use outside your family of tools, but...

It sounds like what you really want is the embedded font size, in bytes.

Some sort of size analysis tool could be interesting. It could list the
size of each font, content stream, image, etc. I'm not quite sure what
the output should look like, since fonts and images can be used on
multiple pages.

Same problem if I use the dafault mac address for the interface.

The command line :

I see also the same for qemu-system-arm, qemu-system-mipsel or qemu.

Since GNU/Hurd has marked wireless-tools as 'not-for-us' there is no

Bug#608116: libcairo2: reproducible on 1.10.2-4

 Hey,

I have the same issue on a Brother HL-5350DN (so it looks like it might
be brother-related at least) on cairo 1.10.2-4.

It prevents more or less completely printing on few boxes (basically
everyone using a brother printer on gtk-based desktop, I guess) so it'd
be really nice if someone could take a look at the issue.

 Regards,

Note that it might not be completely related to cairo, because here if
in the GTK+ app (midori right now) I ask to print to ps file and then
use 'lpr foo.ps', it works fine. So the ps generated by cairo seems
fine, not sure if it does ps or pdf by default when sending directly to
a printer.

Could the other reporters try to print to ps and pdf files and then use
lpr, and report back?

Bug#618463: mdadm: Mdadm grow of Raid1 destroys metadata

2011-03-18 Thread martin f krafft

  Commands where as following:
  lvextend -L +10G vda/opt
  lvextend -L +10G vdb/opt

md was not made aware of these changes to the sizes of the individual devices,
 so

  mdadm --grow /dev/md2 --size=max

This caused mdadm to do nothing as it always knew that all of
the available space on the devices was already in use.

Hello Neil,

thanks for your time taken to reply to this bug report!

I just want to point out that I understand Michael, and the
behaviour is strange to people who work with LVM a lot. For
instance, if vda/opt had a filesystem on it, then after extending
the LV, I could just grow the filesystem to maximum size. That's
because it does not know that all of the space is already in use,
but because it checks the size of the device and of itself and then
acts if they differ. mdadm should probably do the same, don't you
think? I.e. --grow --size=max should cause it to (re-)check if there
is available space, and then act accordingly.

Best regards,

Bug#618747: Please clean dependency_libs from libexiv2.la at build-time

2011-03-18 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: exiv2
Version: 0.21.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: vor...@debian.org
Usertags: multiarch

Hi folks,

The libexiv2-dev package includes a .la file that has a non-null
dependency_libs field. This means that when any other libtool-using
software builds against libexiv2 in Debian, it has to traverse the .la files
for all the other libraries listed here; and in some cases the
reverse-dependencies pick up unnecessary library dependencies as a result.

Debian Policy 10.2 recommends blanking out this dependency_libs field from
.la files that you install:

Packages that use `libtool' to create and install their shared
libraries install a file containing additional metadata (ending in
`.la') alongside the library. For public libraries intended for use
by other packages, these files normally should not be included in the
Debian package, since the information they include is not necessary to
link with the shared library on Debian and can add unnecessary
additional dependencies to other programs or libraries.[6] If the
`.la' file is required for that library (if, for instance, it's loaded
via `libltdl' in a way that requires that meta-information), the
`dependency_libs' setting in the `.la' file should normally be set to
the empty string. If the shared library development package has
historically included the `.la', it must be retained in the
development package (with `dependency_libs' emptied) until all
libraries that depend on it have removed or emptied `dependency_libs'
in their `.la' files to prevent linking with those other libraries
 using `libtool' from failing.

This becomes a practical issue soon because of multiarch; once multiarch
lands in the archive, libexpat, which has an .la file referenced by
libexiv2.la, will move directories, making packages fail to build if they
try to find /usr/lib/libexpat.la at build time. So I would suggest applying
the attached patch to exiv2, before multiarch forces the issue.

This patch, by Fabrice Coutadeur fabric...@ubuntu.com, has already been
applied in Ubuntu, with the following changelog entry:

  * debian/rules: delete the content of dependency_libs in la file to avoid
having to rebuild this package if the path of the libs changes. This fixes
also FTBFS in packages that b-d on libexiv2-dev because of incorrect
reference of libexpat.la. (LP: #737340)

Thanks,

Since the switch to gcc-4.5, gcc uses insane amount of memory (on armel
more than you can get on a 32-bit system) to build QEMU. It's a
regression from gcc-4.4 and should be fixed by the following patches:

Bug#618749: python-gobject: Depends on python2.5

2011-03-18 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: python-gojbect

Hi,

Today's upgrade wants to pull in python2.5 and python2.5-minimal:

# cupt full-upgrade
Building the package cache... [done]
Initializing package resolver and worker... [done]
Scheduling requested actions... [done]
Resolving possible unmet dependencies...
The following 2 packages will be INSTALLED:

python2.5 python2.5-minimal

The following 2 packages will be UPGRADED:

python-gobject python-gobject-cairo

Need to get 0B/5013KiB of archives. After unpacking 15.0MiB will be
used.
Do you want to continue? [y/N/q]

Probably this is because the upgraded python-gobject specifies that it
Depends: libpython2.6 (= 2.6), python2.5 (= 2.5).

But dropping the dependency seems quite harmless --- any application
looking to use python2.5-gobject would require python2.5 already.
Would there be a reasonable way to drop it?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Bug#618752: Fails to open files with colons in it

2011-03-18 Thread martin f krafft
Package: libgnomevfs2-0
Version: 1:2.24.3-2
Severity: normal

Inkscape cannot open files with colons in it:

  fishbowl:~/.tmp/cdt.HtrYqA% touch a:file.svg
  fishbowl:~/.tmp/cdt.HtrYqA% inkscape !$
  inkscape a:file.svg
  (inkscape:10661): libgnomevfs-CRITICAL **: gnome_vfs_uri_is_local: assertion
`uri != NULL' failed
  ** (inkscape:10661): WARNING **: Invalid URI
** (inkscape:10661): WARNING **: Error: Could not open file 'a:file.svg'
with VFS

The workaround is obviously, to pass ./a:file.svg to inkscape.

Would it be possible to insert a check before VFS according to the
following logic?

  if stat(file …)  access(file …) {
open(…)
  } else {
open_with_vfs(…)
  }

?

I do not use VFS (and I do not want to), but I have a lot of files
with colons in them. Hence I would really appreciate if VFS became
more flexible.

Thank you for your consideration.

Bug#581170: php5 crypt() does not complete with emtpy salt

2011-03-18 Thread Ondřej Surý
severity 581170 minor
thank you

Quoting from http://cz.php.net/manual/en/function.crypt.php:
--cut here--
An optional salt string to base the hashing on. If not provided, the
behaviour is defined by the algorithm implementation and can lead to
unexpected results.
--cut here--

However I updated our crypt patch, so it produce SHA512 hashes (and I
keep it with sync to use best algorithm available) if you don't
provide the salt.

 I'm inclined to agree, but:

I am mainly talking about backports. I lost one and a half hour
building a local git backport before finding out that it was
uninstallable. A versioned depends would have at least given me a
heads-up.

  - Policy §3.5 says we need a consensus on debian-devel before
adding a pre-depends, and I didn't see a clear consensus either
way.

A normal depends would serve fine as a warning.

Bug#618572: discover-data: Virtual machines get package mpt-status installed

2011-03-18 Thread Christopher Odenbach
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

a freshly installed virtual machine (VMware ESX 4.0,
   ^^^

 LSI Logic Parallel scsi controller)
   ^^^

00:10.0 SCSI storage controller [0100]: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 53c1030
 PCI-X Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra320 SCSI [1000:0030] (rev 01)

The detected storage controller isn't a RAID controller?

No, it is not. It is a virtual scsi controller. I have never heard of
virtual machines having raid controllers.

I am not the only one experiencing this bug:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/debian-reports-non-optimal-raid-status-866272/

If you have access to ESX 4.0 or higher you can quickly reproduce the
bug: Just create a new virtual machine and chose custom settings, then
you can chose the mentioned scsi controller (which is the default one,
so it will also be chosen if you do not tick the custom settings).

Bug#618722: libpam-ccreds: pam_deny.so in common-account prevents LDAP authentication

2011-03-18 Thread Guido Günther

Hi Luca,

[..snip..]
The problem is the pam_deny.so entry in /etc/pam.d/common-account
(attached): as the comment states, the default is to only deny service
to users whose accounts are expired in /etc/shadow. Obviously, LDAP
users are not in /etc/shadow and the LDAP server can not be contacted,
 thus the failure.

FYI, this situation has already been reported in Ubuntu:

   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpam-ccreds/+bug/294977

The only solution I found is to disable the pam_deny.so entry, but I
agree with Nick Piggott (X-Debbugs-Cc:ed) about the optimal solution:

A better solution would be to implement the account method for
pam_ccreds, which would allow differentiation between a machine that's
online but unable to reach the LDAP server, versus a machine that's
genuinely offline and relying on cached credentials.

I've always used s.th. similar to what is suggested in the pam-ccreds
documentation:

other account [user_unknown=ignore default=done]
/lib/security/pam_unix.so
other account [authinfo_unavail=ignore default=done]
/lib/security/pam_ldap.so
other account [default=done]
/lib/security/pam_permit.so

but I agree that handling this via pam-ccreds makes sense. I'm tagging
this +help and whishlist then. Would be great if somebody comes up with
a patch. Detecting that the machine is offlince is the hard part.

It would also be great to have a co-maintainer since I'm not using
pam-ccreads myself at the moment.
Cheers,

Mm, comments in debian/control and debian/README.source might work
as a (lousy) workaround.

A normal depends would serve fine as a warning.

A normal depends would be dangerous and tricky, e.g. because
backporters won't think to upgrade it to a pre-depends. I'll ping
-devel again.

Bug#617718: ITP: libgraphite2-2.0.0 -- a smart font rendering engine -- library

 * URL             : http://sf.net/projects/silgraphite
 * License         : LGPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description     : a smart font rendering engine -- library

Graphite is a system that can be used to create and use smart fonts capable
of displaying writing systems with various complex behaviors, such as:
contextual shaping, ligatures, reordering, split glyphs, bidirectionality,
  stacking diacritics and complex positioning.
  .
This library was designed and developed by the NRSI (Non-Roman Script
Initiative) within SIL International (www.sil.org) to act as a complement to
other smart font rendering technologies with limited practical local
extensability. Its purpose is to help meet the needs of a very large number
of minority language communities for local extensibility of complex script
  behaviors.
  .
The behavior of the rendering engine for a given writing system is specified
through extra tables added to a TrueType font.  These tables are generated by
compiling a GDL (Graphite Description Language) source file into a font using
  grcompiler.
  .
This package contains the shared library.

This seems to be the successor of silgraphite2.0(sic!) which is libgraphite3
 and
LibreOffice is going to switch to graphite2.

Indeed

Daniel, would you want to (co-)maintain it? I have a package (on upstreams
Debian packaging fixed up) here already :-)

Hi Rene,
Funnily enough I was starting to fix up upstreams packaging myself
earlier. Yes, I'd like to co-maintain it. I think it is good for the
LibreOffice packaging team to be part of maintaining it to make sure
there are no breakages there. And I can hopefully be a good link with
upsteam.

I think we should upload to experimental first as it is still under
development heading for the 1.0 release.

Thanks,
Daniel

Bug#618755: masqmail displays a warning when it starts/stops

2011-03-18 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: masqmail
Version: 0.2.27-1.2
Severity: normal

Hello,

when I start or stop masqmail, I got this message:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/masqmail stop
Stopping MTA (masqmail): debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Gnome
debconf: (Unable to load Gnome -- is libgnome2-perl installed?)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Dialog
 listen/queue.

I don't have libgnome2-perl installed on my system, so the message is
right, but I don't know why it calls debconf in the initd script in the
first place.

The error message is not harmful by itself, but it's a bit annoying and
it gives the impression that the initd script tries to do something
nasty beyond your back (maybe it doesn't, but that how it looks like).

This might be related to #432793 althought I don't remember seeing the
error message as described in this bug when shutdowning my laptop (maybe
I didn't really look).

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#618573: Needed some way to test whether we are on the console

With the adequate greps, this should be okay. If configure_the_font is
just a setfont invocation, there is no need to guard it, as “setfont -v
$font” just spits out the same warning message if it is on a graphics
console.

If the answer is yes, then there is no need for special testing toos and
perhaps this bug can be closed.

I’ll leave it open nonetheless. It makes sense to have some kind of
“vt_mode” command analogous to kbd_mode, rather than having to dump the
current font to /dev/null.

2011-03-18 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

Upstream has newer material than this more than 3 years old packaging:

Please consider upgrading.

I dare raise severity from wishlist to minor due to the excess of

Also, instead of the list of hardcoded ressources to fetch, it probably
is sensible to instead make use of this upstream provided
machine-parsable listing:

Bug#618760: python-keyring should suggest dependencies on backend keyring modules

2011-03-18 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: python-keyring
Version: 0.5.1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

tl;dr: scripts which relied in the Gnome keyring might now fail if the
python-gnomekeyring module is not installed.

Long story:

I have a piece of code which was dependent on python-keyring and
python-keyring-gnome and all was smooth: the default keyring was the
Gnome one and I didn't have to do anything.

Since the update to 0.5.1, I removed the obsolete package
python-keyring-gnome and then, my script started to fail because it
couldn't find the password I had in my keyring.
The problem occurs to be that the default keyring switched to
`keyring.backend.CryptedFileKeyring`, as revealed by
`keyring.get_keyring()`.

I first thought that I now had to configure manually the keyring system
so that it will use the Gnome one, but once I configured the
~/keyringrc.cfg file, I got this error:

 import keyring
 keyring.get_keyring()
keyring.backend.GnomeKeyring object at 0xb7233dec
 keyring.get_password('foo', 'bar')
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module

  File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/keyring/backend.py, line 140, in
get_password
except gnomekeyring.NoMatchError:
NameError: global name 'gnomekeyring' is not defined

I thought that there was a bug in python-keyring, but it occurs that I
was just missing the python-gnomekeyring module, on which python-keyring
now relies on. I think the same problem happens for users which were
using the KDE keyring, though I'm not using it so I can't really say.

May I suggest you to add a 'Suggest: python-gnomekeyring' or something
like that to the python-keyring package?
I'm not really sure how to handle the upgrade process from the previous
version to this one, maybe you could figure a better plan, but I think
this could be the minimum to do.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#618761: knm-runtime: knm could not enable wireless link after antena kill switch off-on cycle

2011-03-18 Thread mourad
Package: knm-runtime
Version: 0.1~svn1175124-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I'm experimenting a problem since version 0.8.2 of the network-manager...
Every time I'm using the wireless switch button (off - on cycle), knm doesn't
detect wireless any more (the Enable Wireless checkbox is disabled) !

to reproduce :
- use wireless network,
- switch the kill switch off,
- switch back it on,
- try to check Enable Wireless checkbox and reconnect to wireless network...

I found a quirk workaround :
- before switch of antena, uncheck the Enable Wireless checkbox,
and the wireless can be re-enabled after an on-off cycle !

It seem to be solved with knm bring with kubuntu 10.10 (kde 4.5), I didn't
manage to reproduce that defect...

Regards

 Hi Daniel,

this seems to be a bug in the binary driver, so we can't do anything
about it. You may want to report it directly to NVIDIA, following their
 bug reporting instructions:
 http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678

If you report it to NVIDIA, please drop a note here with the URL.

 Thanks

It appears to be no longer possible to start X as non-root user, regardless
of the x11-common configuration. I don't use this too often, so I can't say
exactly when it broke. I do remember that this worked fine before Squeeze was
 released though.

the -logfile option makes X drop privileges.

If I remember correctly, I first noticed this after I removed xserver-xorg,
however reinstalling xserver-xorg does not fix the issue. I may have simply
overplayed my hand by pruning too much of the Xorg stack, if so, I'd like some
pointers on how to restore previous behaviour. Simply setuid'ing the X binary
does not have the desired effect :)

Please provide the output of
- ls -l /usr/bin/X* /etc/X11/X /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
- cat /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config

Bug#618762: system-config-printer: 'Add' button does nothing (drop-down adjacent does)

2011-03-18 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: system-config-printer
Version: 1.2.3-3
Severity: minor

The 'Add' button in the main dialogue (screenshot hopefully attached) doesn't
do anything when clicked. The drop-down to its right, however, does: it
reveals a context menu with Printer or Class on it, which are active.

Add should not be reactive if it isn't meant to be clicked.

You are welcome, more are coming ;-)

Two notes:

1) upstream SVN is not working anymore, which is a bit sad given that it

2) I started working on Apache::Gallery because I was evaluating it
against Gallery http://gallery.sourceforge.net/ to manage my

In the vast majority of cases, the df plugin doesn't need privileges.
The only problematic case I can think of right now is if some file
system is mounted at /secret/foo and the unprivileged user isn't
allowed to read /secret.

Plugins which do require privileges can be found in the collectd wiki in

Bug#618714: fossil: FTBFS on squeeze

2011-03-18 Thread Barak A. Pearlmutter
You probably need to tighten your libsqlite3-dev dependency. Maybe it
 requires 3.7.5.

Fossil ships with its own copy of sqlite, which I remove in favour of
the debian package. For a while I used an aggressive version
dependency, but I recently switched to guarding the snippets of code
in the fossil sources that use advanced sqlite functionality. (Which
is used in all cases for extra safety or metering, and not essential
functionality.)

This includes in particular these added #if guards:

$ grep -n -B1 -A4 stmt_readonly src/*.c
src/report.c-247-#if SQLITE_VERSION_NUMBER = 3007004
src/report.c:248:  if( !sqlite3_stmt_readonly(pStmt) ){
src/report.c-249-zErr = mprintf(SQL must not modify the database);
src/report.c-250-  }
src/report.c-251-#endif
src/report.c-252-  if( pStmt ){
--
src/report.c-857-#if SQLITE_VERSION_NUMBER = 3007004
src/report.c:858:  if( !sqlite3_stmt_readonly(pStmt) ){
src/report.c-859-sqlite3_finalize(pStmt);
src/report.c-860-return SQLITE_ERROR;
src/report.c-861-  }
src/report.c-862-#endif

So apparently either the version there, taken from the sqlite
changelog, is wrong, or I wrote the guard incorrectly. Could I ask
what version of libsqlite3-dev you had installed? I ask because this
works for me using libsqlite3-dev 3.7.3-1.

6.0.0. I initially thought something went awry during the installation,
  until
I read on the Debian Forums that others are missing this icon as well.

There's no screensaver settings in Xfce. (what you might remember is the

 xfce-mcs-manager). This is gone now.

Ok, sorry, I was wrong. What happens is that xscreensaver forces the
extension in the desktop file which confuses xfce4-settings. This is
already fixed in xscreensaver but not yet uploaded (see

gnome-vfs is no longer developed upstream so there is no way we will

Applications should be ported to use GIO instead.

Bug#618764: accountsservice: Make it match Debian user/groups system

2011-03-18 Thread Frederic Peters
Package: accountsservice
Version: 0.6.5-2
Severity: important

AccountsService makes many assumptions on the underlying system, basically it
considers it's a Fedora / Red Hat system, minimum uid set at 500, admin group
set as desktop_admin_r, presence of a desktop_user_r group, etc.

Here is a serie of patches:

0001-take-minimal_uid-value-from-login.defs.patch
 - read /etc/login.defs and look for the definition of UID_MAX

0002-create-and-manage-groups-like-on-a-debian-system.patch
 - do not consider desktop_admin_r and desktop_user_r, add desktop users to a
serie of groups typical of Debian systems (audio, cdrom...), add admin user
to an admin group (this may not exist but it appears to be working for
the default sudo configuration on Ubuntu at least).

0003-do-not-consider-system-users-returned-from-consoleki.patch
 - accountsservice would add users found in consolekit history without
attention to their uid, making it possible for system users to be listed.

When bug #600957[0] is solved, you'd at least have another (performant)
solution...

Bug#618766: gummi: superfluous build dependency on libpoppler-dev

2011-03-18 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: gummi
Version: 0.5.5-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

gummi uses poppler-glib and build depend on it, while it does not use the core
poppler library; can you please remove the libpoppler-dev build dependency?

Thanks,

Bug#618572: discover-data: Virtual machines get package mpt-status installed

Hi,

When bug #600957[0] is solved, you'd at least have another (performant)
 solution...

 [0] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=600957

Correct, that would be nice indeed. But at the moment the parallel LSI
logic scsi controller is the VMware default for Debian (Lenny as there
is currently no support for Squeeze in VMware), so it would be good to
detect this hardware correctly to stop the mpt-status package from being
installed by default and filling the logs with wrong information.

Bug#618714: fossil: FTBFS on squeeze

2011-03-18 Thread Faheem Mitha

Hi Barak,

On Fri, 18 Mar 2011, Barak A. Pearlmutter wrote:

You probably need to tighten your libsqlite3-dev dependency. Maybe it
requires 3.7.5.

Fossil ships with its own copy of sqlite, which I remove in favour of
the debian package. For a while I used an aggressive version
dependency, but I recently switched to guarding the snippets of code
in the fossil sources that use advanced sqlite functionality. (Which
is used in all cases for extra safety or metering, and not essential
functionality.)

Have you sent this patch upstream?

This includes in particular these added #if guards:

   $ grep -n -B1 -A4 stmt_readonly src/*.c
   src/report.c-247-#if SQLITE_VERSION_NUMBER = 3007004
   src/report.c:248:  if( !sqlite3_stmt_readonly(pStmt) ){
   src/report.c-249-zErr = mprintf(SQL must not modify the database);
   src/report.c-250-  }
   src/report.c-251-#endif
   src/report.c-252-  if( pStmt ){
   --
   src/report.c-857-#if SQLITE_VERSION_NUMBER = 3007004
   src/report.c:858:  if( !sqlite3_stmt_readonly(pStmt) ){
   src/report.c-859-sqlite3_finalize(pStmt);
   src/report.c-860-return SQLITE_ERROR;
   src/report.c-861-  }
   src/report.c-862-#endif

So apparently either the version there, taken from the sqlite
changelog, is wrong, or I wrote the guard incorrectly. Could I ask
what version of libsqlite3-dev you had installed? I ask because this
works for me using libsqlite3-dev 3.7.3-1.

The version I was using was the version in squeeze

orwell:/home/faheem# apt-cache policy libsqlite3-0 libsqlite3-dev
libsqlite3-0:
  Installed: 3.7.3-1
  Candidate: 3.7.3-1

 *** 3.7.3-1 0

I just switched back to that from 3.7.5, and can still reproduce the
failure on my squeeze installation. Note I'm using

faheem@orwell:/usr/local/src/fossil/fossil-2011.03.01.190432$ debuild binary

to build.

The errors are coming from the snippets you quoted, so maybe the guards
are at fault. Though in that case I don't understand why you are not
seeing the problem.

Bug#502021: Reopening etoolbox ITP to re-introduce it in Debian

2011-03-18 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
etoolbox was included in texlive and then removed from unstable. It now
turns out that, in order to maintain newer versions of biblatex,
etoolbox needs to be maintained separately. I thus reopened this bug and
will upload a new version of etoolbox that will close it again.

Bug#618714: fossil: FTBFS on squeeze

2011-03-18 Thread Barak A. Pearlmutter
Hmm. Could you check that src/sqlite3.{c,h} do not exist?

I have a sneaking suspicion that even though these files are deleted
in the debian branch, they're not staying deleted, which would lead to
the wrong sqlite3.h being #included, etc. If so this is due to a
deficiency in the debian patch format, which I'll work around by
re-deleting them in debian/rules.

2011-03-18 Thread Jan Hauke Rahm
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jan Hauke Rahm j...@debian.org

* Package name: logreq
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Philipp Lehman pleh...@gmx.net
* URL : http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/logreq/
* License : LPPL
  Programming Lang: LaTeX
  Description : LaTeX compiling helper

The logreq package helps to automate a typical LaTeX workflow that
involves running LaTeX several times, running tools such as BibTeX
or makeindex, and so on. It will log requests like please rerun
LaTeX or please run BibTeX on file X to an external XML file
which lists all open tasks in a machine-readable format. Compiler
scripts and integrated LaTeX editing environments may parse this
file to determine the next steps in the workflow in a way that is
more efficient than parsing the main log file. In sum, the package
will do two things: 1) enable package authors to use LaTeX commands
to issue requests, 2) collect all requests from all packages and
write them to an external XML file at the end of the document.

found, in the other it is not).

It would be good to have the log for one empty PDF and one good PDF
using 2.5.1 (and, of course, identical versions of CUPS and GhostScipt -
chack that in any case!), both using identical cups-pdf.conf-settings,
identical PPDs, identical printing commands and identical input files.

 Hi Volker,

I'm pretty sure that I've printed the same web page: www.cups-pdf.de
The web page's title is CUPS-PDF. All three logs are printed from
 iceweasel.

From the log of the empty page you can see that there was no title found
within the original PS file that was sent (by iceweasel) to the printer.
In the good case there was. So the input obviously differed. Since there
was no PS-title in the first case, perhaps there was more information in
the file missing so the PDF could not be created.
There are two possible culprits I can think of: iceweasel itelf and
CUPS/the PPD used. Please make double-sure those are absolutely
identical (same version, same revision, same built).
The best test for the printing system would be to just print two
identical files (e.g. the tiger.eps from Ghostscript's examples) via
commandline to the PDF-printer (to avoid any additional interaction by
other programs that might decide to modify the input).

Regards,
Volker

I have a ext4 partition labeled mdpf, and I set the mounting point for it
at the setup time.
The mount point I set for it is /home/pswz-zhangy/mdpf (ps:pswz-zhangy is my
username)
And everytime I log in the first time I want to enter the partition, I have
to
do:
1.single or double click on the icon on desktop or the folder in /home/pswz-
zhangy
and this action will have no response.
2. double click on it again to enter it.

after the first time I open the folder, everytime afterward will be normal
(only one time double click will open it) until my next login.

Bug#618764: Acknowledgement (accountsservice: Make it match Debian user/groups system)

2011-03-18 Thread Frederic Peters
After I wrote those patches I noticed similar ones have been created
and pushed yesterday by accountsservice developers.

daemon: read minimal uid from login.defs
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/commit/?id=fdb2cbeafc

daemon: drop desktop_role_r group checks
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/commit/?id=733291e426
(this one will still need patching, as it changes accountsservice to
use the wheel group, which is not used on Debian, and doesn't add
the desktop user to any group)

The third patch should still be ok.

Bug#440516: libpam-otpw: pam_otpw session module does not work

2011-03-18 Thread Phil Brooke

Hi,

This (relatively old) bug asks if it exists in a pure environment. It
does seem to exist in 1.3-2 on a pure squeeze system.

If telnetd is used, it works; if sshd, then the session module returns an
error which is logged as per the original report.

I (1) installed a fresh squeeze inside virtualbox; (2) set
/etc/ssh/sshd_config to include UsePrivilegeSeparation no,
ChallengeResponseAuthentication yes; (3) set /etc/pam.d/ssh to include the
two pam_otpw.so lines.

I haven't investigated further to see if the problem lies in otpw, or the
PAM data it receives from ssh.

Cheers,

Phil.

Here they are, 0002-create-and-manage-groups-like-on-a-debian-system.patch

easier with the removal of the supervised type of account, so it's made

This is a collection of software that help users to share resources in a
complex, heterogeneous, and unreliable computing environment. This includes:
 .
Chirp - A personal filesystem and I/O protocol that allows unprivileged users
to share space securely, efficiently, and conveniently. When combined
with Parrot, Chirp allows users to create custom wide-area distributed
  filesystems.
Parrot - A transparent user-level virtual filesystem that allows any ordinary
program to be attached to a remote storage device such as an FTP
  server or a Chirp server.
Makeflow - A workflow system for parallel and distributed computing that uses
a language very similar to Make.
Work Queue - A system and API for building master-worker style programs that
scale up to thousands of processors.
All Pairs - A computational abstraction for running very large Cartesian
  products.
Wavefront - A computational asbtraction for running very large dynamic
  programming problems.
The Fault Tolerant Shell - A high-level programming language that allows
users to combine the ease of shell scripting, the power of distributed
programming, and the precision of compiled languages. Basically,
parallel programming and exception handling for scripts.

Bug#506191: New atop release

2011-03-18 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Hello,

the debian atop package was not updated for long now and has several
annoying bugs. So I was so perky and did update the package.

As I am no debian maintainer, I am not able to upload to debian
directly. I uploaded the package to my own debian repository[0]. You
might find all files there including the source[1][2][3]. Feel free to
upload it back to debian. For the moment I only build for amd64 but a
rebuild for i386 should be no problem.

The packages will close the bugs 569175, 529003, 587584, 611616 and
506191.

Regards
   Klaus

Bug#618714: fossil: FTBFS on squeeze

2011-03-18 Thread Faheem Mitha

On Fri, 18 Mar 2011, Barak A. Pearlmutter wrote:

Yes, they're here, and unaffected by debuild clean.

faheem@orwell:/usr/local/src/fossil/fossil-2011.03.01.190432/src$ ls sqlite3.*

If it really is a bug, I hope you'll report it.

Bug#618779: user not allowed to change neither the file name nor it's extension

2011-03-18 Thread Raf Czlonka
Package: bookmarkbridge
Version: 0.76-2.2
Severity: grave

Hi,

While I was looking for a graphical tool to synchronise my bookmarks I
found this one to be completely useless as it doesn't allowe one to
choose a bookmark file - neither its name nor extension.

I'm trying to synchronise Iceweasel and Opera bookmarks but:

- the only file name I can choose for Opera is opera*.adr but Opera
  bookmarks are stored in bookmarks.adr.

- the only file name I can choose for Iceweasel is bookmarks.html but
since Firefox 3 they're not storred there any more[0].

Please do your homework and update this software to support other file
names and file formats as well - it will allow adding other browsers'
bookmarks as well. If not, please remove it from the archive as the last
release has been nearly five years ago.

How can this be a problem of upstream, since the Debian packagers can change

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning here.

Hi there!

This should probably be merged with #412512 (and FWIW #596377 as well),

IMHO Severity: important because Debian had UTF-8 as a Release Goal

I was preparing for the key signing party at Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2011
http://chemnitzer.linux-tage.de/2011/addons/pgp and discovered that

Mixing Debian packages and pear installed libraries quickly turns

I fully agree with this proposal however the main problem is that
pear can't deal with two directories and it breaks some webapps

 eGroupWare could be broken).

Then shouldn't the packaging for these apps be fixed so that they depend from
the right place where these PEAR libs would belong depending if they are
packaged already or not ?

I think you may not expect that manually installed web apps can run on a Debian
system unchanged if they depend on a mix of packaged and non-packaged PEAR
dependencies.

In any case, this looks like a PHP policy that may need more debating than this
just one bug ?

My 2 cents,
