Bug#386525: Update or Fix?
Hi Nick Generally the rule of thumb for this package is that services that do not have ssl enabled by default (and as only service) should be rejected. Do you know if that is the case for uw-imap? I see that dovecot-imapd and courier-imap should probably be restricted as well. And cyrus imap have changed its name... // Ola On Tue, Aug 23, 2011 at 09:04:11PM -0500, Nick Daly wrote: Hi, this bug has been unattended for 5 years now. Does OpenSSL or GnuTLS have any concept of a revocation store format, similar to a certificate store, or would this need some special-purpose custom format? So I installed them. And the problem disappeared (~10 reboots without any problem). Just to be sure, I tried to remove them. And the problem is back. Yep, problems with the radeon driver's fallback behavior when microcode is not available are not so unusual. :/ Still, provoking random segfaults is not great. I guess what would be most useful is (1) to try a recent (3.x) kernel from sid or experimental, (2) to build from source, enabling some debugging options from the kernel hacking section in make menuconfig, and then (3) to report this upstream with a patch. I can help with (2) and (3), but I cannot promise to be quick at all. For now, please attach output from /usr/share/bug/linux-image-$(uname -r)/script 31 so we can tell what hardware and drivers you are using, then try a kernel from sid or experimental if you have time (you'll also need the linux-base and initramfs-tools packages from sid or squeeze-backports). Although there are some minor issues that are already commented in the code published in the pkg-ossec git repository, these are the main ones: - - external zlib: we have compared and discussed around the differences between original zlib and Ossec's zlib version and, although some of these modifications seem to be interesting features and will be send some of them to zlib upstream, IMO this can be overriden and we are ready to link against the zlib distributed by Debian. - - OpenSSL exception: we need the OpenSSL exception. We are waitting for upstream to implement the legal code that avoids this problem but we are considering to prepare a patch to make things easier to upstream. - - chroot issue: as you already know, Ossec works in a chrooted environment, and although this seems to be a a good idea, it's not being perfectly handled. That's why we are working on a patch to improve this feature. Feel free to solve any of the above issues you by yourself and send us a patch. It would be really helpful. That's all by now. Best regards, 2011/8/23 Amaya am...@debian.org Hi all! Any updates on the changes needed for ossec to be packaged in Debian? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=361954 Thanks! -- .''`. I'm wondering about what happened to openid4java package since I remember seeing it at NEW queue on January 2011 but I couldn't find any FTPmaster reject or something. It was rejected dur to some .class files included in the package. I'm preparing a package with an optional Build-Depends on openid4java, so I have interest to know about the current status of this package. You can find the current package in the java team git. I don't know if you want to help packaging openid4java. Maybe you could join the java team and update it directly in the git. Or you can just clone it and give me the patch I can apply. Thx for you interest. I have some plan to improve openid4java packaging during this next month. Bug#299678: aptitude: supporting source packages (i.e. from deb-src lines)
retitle 299678 aptitude: support installing build-dependencies from curses/gtk interface quit One very helpful improvement to aptitude would be if it would handle browsing/installing source packages from deb-src sources. When pointing at the regular debian repositories, this isn't always necessary, since every source package should be already compiled (although, this isn't necessarily the case--the amd64 port, for instance, since it not all packages are currently build). However, this is very useful for 3rd-party repositories, where being able to browse/download/install source packages and their build-deps from within aptitude's GUI would be a very useful feature. Just tidying this up as it is (at least) 4 separate requests. Please correct me if I have misinterpreted any of these. 1. Browse source packages A new grouping policy [1] has been added in 0.6.4-1 which enables browsing sources in the package view: # with grouping policy `source, status' ... --\ eggdrop (2) --- Not Installed packages (2) --\ eglibc (17) --\ Upgradable Packages (6) ilibc-bin ilibc-dev-bin ilibc6 ilibc6-dev ilocales imultiarch-support --- Not Installed Packages (11) ... 2. Download source packages Not implemented in aptitude but suggested elsewhere [2, 3]. 3. Install build-dependencies of packages - command-line action [4] was added in 0.4.11-1 - the curses interface does not support this yet 4. Build source packages Not implemented _by aptitude_ but suggested elsewhere [5]. See also: apt-build - frontend to apt to build, optimize and install packages. * Summary The only remaining feature suggested here which is not either already implemented or covered elsewhere is installing build-dep from the curses interface. Rhonda The build-depends on nvidia-settings was always there in the first place; currently, conky in testing/unstable still has libxnvctrl-dev | nvidia-settings (both in contrib) as build dependencies, even though conky (the source package) was moved back to main since version 1.8.1-1. This has already been discussed extensively in #579102; please see [1] in particular. [1] is clearly wrong then, citing the policy: ,--- quote policy --- | 2.2.1. The ftpmasters have simply accepted the status quo as a compromise. Where did that happen? Do you have a hint for that? In light of all this, would you be willing to re-consider accepting conky as-is to Debian backports? In the light of all this, I'm filing a RC bug against the package for violating policy 2.2.1. Bug#639779: netbase: /etc/sysctl.d/bindv6only.conf should not be the default
Package: netbase Version: 4.45 Severity: important Tags: ipv6 I've just discovered that netbase now sets the system parameter bindv6only. This seems completely wrong to me, especially in the light that acceptance for IPv6 is still very low simply because there's next to no interoperability with IPv4. Luckily, at least servers can listen for IPv4 and IPv6 connections with a single socket, using :::x.x.x.x addresses for IPv4 clients. I've been busy changing my own code (tons of stuff) to do just that (i.e. listen to a single IPv6 socket which will also accept IPv4 connections) and now I find out that this is disabled per default in Debian...! The comment in /etc/sysctl.d/bindv6only says: # This is the default behaviour of almost all modern operating systems. This is the first time I hear about this. All boxes I'm dealing with (SunOS, HP-UX, AIX, various Linux distributions) have this questionable feature disabled and will accept IPv4 connections on an IPv6 socket. It is the same reason that motivates me to use maintainer mode in my own set of automake scripts for all programs I write. Which in turn breaks applications such as Roundcube hence the critical severity. Wordpress should NEVER write files in another packages directory! The only way to fix this is to force the removal of tinymce manually delete the directory and then reinstall tinymce. I can't reproduce this, could you show me which plugins are written in /usr/share/tinymce please? Cheers, Giuseppe. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#639791: lltag: Option to force encoding of ID3 tag
Package: lltag Version: 0.14.4-1 Severity: wishlist It seems that lltag does not specify encoding of written tags for mp3 files. As a result, tags with non-ASCII characters written in lltag are displayed malformed in other programs. I did check mpd, easytag and puddletag. id3v2 displays them correctly, but if I'm correct, id3v2 does not care about encoding as well. I think that the best way is to create new option for that. If unspecified, lltag should behave the same as now. I'm not sure if defaulting to user locale is good idea (for me it is, but don't know about others). I found little (200 lines of code) GPLed perl script called mp3_tag_iconv[0]. It changes encoding of ID3 tags. Maybe lltag could borrow some code from it? There is also mid3iconv which changes tags encoding to unicode. It is in python-mutagen Debian package. You can find some threads about ID3 encoding on perlmonks.org. They may be handy. Bug#639799: cups: Prevents foomatic-db and foomatic-db-engine upgrade
Package: cups Version: 1.4.8-2 Severity: normal The current version of cups prevents the installation of the last foomatic-db and foomatic-db-engine packages (20110803-3 and 4.0.8-2). Those packages are set to conflict with cups ( 1.5.0). The solution so far has been to hold the upgrade. I've filed this under this package because I consider this to be a bug in cups, not foomatic-db and foomatic-db-engine. I wonder why those packages were upgraded before cups. But given the current situation, the obvious solution is to upgrade cups to 1.5.0 on Wheezy. Bug#639778: conky requires packages outside main for compilation (was: Re: conky rejected from backports)
Hi! * Aron Xu a...@debian.org [2011-08-30 13:14:59 CEST]: Sorry, I am on vacation, but I can be online sometimes... I didn't see where is your bug report on BTS, I think it would be better to roll in ftp-masters to the discussions then, so they have a chance to explain why it was accepted, and why buildds enable contrib by default even if building main packages. Because ftp masters are only human too, and can make mistakes. Given that there is no log of the discussion that dererk had with the unnamed ftpmaster, this is very unfortunate, but mistakes happen. That doesn't mean that this it was rightfully granted, and the policy is crystal clear on this, like Vincent Bernat quoted already in bugreport 579102 in message #129, and like I quoted again with the opening of 639778. I don't see any need for bringing in any ftp master for explaining a clear statement from the policy that packages in main aren't allowed to build-depend on packages outside of main.
