Bug#648801: lib, commandline client and gui in one package

2011-11-14 Thread Oliver Korff
Package: cutechess
Version: 2014+0.4.2+0.0.1-1
Severity: serious

The lib, commandline client and gui should be separate packages.

There should be a -dev package. The lib should treat sonames and symbols
correctly.

See the excerpt of the README.Debian:

 README
Why including lib, commandline client and gui in one package

There are several reasons:
- The upstream sources are under heavy development and changes to the
lib likely
- Upgrading is a pain, if no so-names are managed upstream
- No other software is using the lib

There will be a RC-bug filed against this package as long as this situation
remains. This bug
will prevent cutechess to go into testing.

Bug#648367: [dm-devel] Bug#648367: device-mapper devices such as dm-crypt always have rotational=1; should inherit "rotational" setting from underlying devices

Rotational flag is inherited in DM core, nothing dm-crypt specific.
And it works (for several kernel releases already):

create test scsi disk (also with discards)
# modprobe scsi_debug dev_size_mb=16 sector_size=512 num_tgts=1 lbpu=1
# grep scsi_debug /sys/block/*/device/model
/sys/block/sdj/device/model:scsi_debug

Map some crypt device over it
# echo "password" | cryptsetup create sdj_crypt /dev/sdj

And now see inherited ROTA flag (it is /sys rotational)

# lsblk -t /dev/sdj
NAME ALIGNMENT MIN-IO OPT-IO PHY-SEC LOG-SEC ROTA SCHED RQ-SIZE
sdj0512 32768 512 5120 cfq 128
`-sdj_crypt (dm-0) 0512 32768 512 5120 128

Please paste lsblk -t output tree if you think there is a bug, do not blindly
check all dm-X devices queues.

Please find attached a patch dropping the dependency on defoma and
x-ttcidfont-conf. This is a simple patch as the package was not
providing any defoma hints file.

Okay, well, so much for that theory. I was hoping that for some reason
you were getting service tickets that weren't arcfour-hmac for some
reason, but you are, so I don't get why they wouldn't match.

The only thing that I can think of at this point is that the underlying
GSS-API implementation behind rpc.svcgssd isn't supporting arcfour-hmac
for some reason. Maybe you don't have the backported version of
everything and your daemon still only supports DES somehow?

Bug#648800: Needs to Recommend: python-dev

2011-11-14 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Package: python-pyrex
Version: 0.9.8.5-2
Severity: minor

python-pyrex currently Recommends: python-all-dev, which depends on
python2.6-dev and python2.7-dev (among others). If you wish to install
the package without pulling in support for 2.6, you don't have any good
options. You can

1. specify --no-install-recommends, in which case you don't get any
   python*-dev package at all;

2. specify "python-pyrex python-all-dev-", and also no python*-dev;

3. specify "... python2.6-", which yields the desired effect, but is not
   version-agnostic;

4. specify "python-dev", which is redundant.

Adding a recommendation of python-dev would allow option #2 to
work cleanly.

No, this is the TGT for the client's principal. Rather than running
klist

-e immediately after obtaining credentials, run kinit and then try to
access NFS (so that rpc.gssd will obtain a service ticket for the server)
and *then* run klist -e and look at what encryption type the service

That is an interesting point.

I found an interesting one as well here on the pptpclient home page:
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/

"PPTP Client is a Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD client..."

There is also information available here
http://www.freebsddiary.org/pptp.php
There the installation seems to be simple:

When looking deeper into this it looks like your change is only
applicable to GNU/kFreeBSD, right?

I thought the package was linux only, but obviously I was wrong.

Oh. My mistake I thought this one was linux only. My bad. In this
case I think I should apply this as a first step.

However I have one note on the patch. I see that you use
some patches/series function. I have not used that before. I have simply
applied the patches in the old fashioned way. Is it ok if I continue
that way? I find the new patch mechanism a bit too slow and not very
fail safe.

Bug#648612: Patches with incorrect paths

Are you saying that chunks with "./binutils" works while chunks with
"./gas" does not? I've just tried to rebuild on a freshly update
chroot and it works just fine. Might this be due to some issue with
your system?

The patch looks simple enough to be accepted to stable, so I'll prepare
a stable release and ask the release team about it.

Bug#648799: init.d/saslauthd uses /lib/init/vars.sh without Depends: initscripts

2011-11-14 Thread Ivan Shmakov
Package: sasl2-bin
Version: 2.1.23.dfsg1-7
Severity: minor

The /etc/init.d/saslauthd script tries to source
/lib/init/vars.sh which was introduced in initscripts somewhat
in-between 2.86.ds1-4 (which provides no such file) and
2.86.ds1-21 (whose Debian's changelog mentions one.)

Therefore, I suggest a versioned depency on initscripts >=
2.86.ds1-21.

This is a substantive change to the syntax, not a clarification, and as such
is not on the table for consideration in DEP-5 at this time.

I also disagree that this syntax offers any clarity at all.
"GPL-2.0+-with-font-exception and GPL-2.0+-with-OpenSSL-exception" expresses
that use of this code must simultaneously comply with the two named
licenses. It does *not* express that the same code is simultaneously
covered by two exceptions to the GPL. Nor does use of "or" instead of "and"
fare any better, as that suggests that you can only make use of one license
exception or the other.

That has not been proposed.

Bug#648762: Please update MIRA to autoconf 2.68 or superior.

2011-11-14 Thread Charles Plessy
Dear Bastien,

we are distributing Mira in Debian and got a report from our Ubuntu friends
that Mira 3.4.0 needs to be patched in order to be linked with ‘--as-needed’.
This patch can be avoided if you use autoconf 2.68 or superior in your next
release. Can you consider that upgrade ?

See below for more technical discussion.

Have a nice day,

Executive summary for the CCed DEP-5 parser writers (and apologises for those I
forgot): this is about how to signal multiple exceptions to a license.

SPDX uses one short name per combination of license and exception. I did not
like it at the beginning as I find it inelegant, but in the end it would be
simpler. With that syntax, ‘GPL-2+ with OpenSSL and Font exceptions’ would be
written ‘GPL-2.0+-with-font-exception and GPL-2.0+-with-OpenSSL-exception’.

This would have the following advantages:

 - Parsers would not need to be modified.
 - Straight compatibility with SPDX.

I would recommend against having ‘Y with X exception’ making Y compatible with
X, because it would deviate with how SPDX uses exeptions. For instance,
GPL-2.0-with-bison-exception does not mean that there is a special exception
to use the GPL-2 with a so-called ‘bison’ license.

In that context, for a computer to determine that for instance ‘OpenSSL’ and
‘GPL-2+ with OpenSSL exception’ are compatible, some extra information has to
be stored somewhere:

 - With the plain text English syntax, that ‘OpenSSL exception’ makes the GPL-2+
   license compatible with OpenSSL.
 - With the short name syntax, that GPL-2.0+-with-OpenSSL-exception is
compatible with OpenSSL.

My preference is for the short name syntax. In case there is a consensus
against my opinion, I support Jonathan's proposition as a fallback, that I
quote here.

Exceptions are signaled by including "with
exceptions" at the end of the short name. The word
"exception" or "exceptions" can be used. Each keyword must be
a single word (see the list below for standard exception
keywords), and the list of keywords is formatted as a list of
words separated by "and".

Example license field

License: GPL-2+ with OpenSSL and Font and GCC-Runtime-Library exceptions

The buildd daemons require that the first package of an alternative
exists in the archive, which is not the case there. You'll find
attached a build log showing the issue.

The removal in wheezy/sid of gdm and installation of gdm3 has rendered my gnome

No, this is the TGT for the client's principal. Rather than running klist
-e immediately after obtaining credentials, run kinit and then try to
access NFS (so that rpc.gssd will obtain a service ticket for the server)
and *then* run klist -e and look at what encryption type the service
ticket for nfs/archiv.sag.local@SAG.LOCAL has.

Thank you for fixing this. However now that libv4l-dev is available
on GNU/kFreeBSD, it's probably better to include the other plugin as
well. E.g. see attached patch.

Note: patch is UNTESTED. I can test it but not right now. Maybe in
~12 hours if noone beats me to it.

Bug#622146: nfs-kernel-server: error Encryption type not permitted

The NFS server, client, and KDC all have to agree on a single encryption
type, and the encryption type of the service ticket issued by the KDC to
the client has to be in an encryption type that the NFS server supports.
KDC supports the types of encryption
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd560670(WS.10).aspx):

AES256-CTS-HMAC-SHA1-96
AES128-CTS-HMAC-SHA1-96

The NFS server is the core:
ARCHIV ~ # uname -a
Linux ARCHIV 2.6.39-bpo.2-686-pae #1 SMP Thu Aug 4 11:02:22 UTC 2011 i686
GNU/Linux

As you said above, it supports:
AES256-CTS-HMAC-SHA1-96
AES128-CTS-HMAC-SHA1-96
RC4-HMAC
The NFS client has a core:
root@debian:~# uname -a
Linux debian 3.0.0-1-486 #1 Sat Aug 27 15:56:48 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
It is older than the server, respectively, should also support the above
types of encryption.
(If the server and client on the kernel Linux debian 3.0.0-1-486 # 1, then
there is no error ...)

I tried to tune in krb5.conf on the client and server NFS (last letter):
default_tkt_enctypes = rc4-hmac
default_tgs_enctypes = rc4-hmac
permitted_enctypes = rc4-hmac

But still there was an error on NFS server:
Nov 14 22:54:40 archiv rpc.svcgssd[4812]: ERROR: GSS-API: error in
handle_nullreq: gss_accept_sec_context(): GSS_S_FAILURE (Unspecified GSS

handle_nullreq: gss_accept_sec_context(): GSS_S_FAILURE (Unspecified GSS
failure. Minor code may provide more information) - No supported
encryption types (config file error?)

It would be more interesting to run klist -e after attempting to contact
the server, so that you can see what the encryption type of the service
ticket for the NFS server was.

on client:

root@debian:~# kinit -k nfs/debian.sag.local

Bug#648797: xinput cannot disable built-in keyboards, only USB keyboards

2011-11-14 Thread jidanni
Package: xinput
Version: 1.5.3-1
File: /usr/bin/xinput

We find that there is no way to disable the keyboard.
E.g., if one has a defective builtin keyboard that types phantom characters and
wishes to turn it off in lieu of a USB keyboard.
One finds one can enable and disable USB keyboards fine, but not
built-in keyboards!

$ xinput --list

$ xinput set-prop 10 "Device Enabled" 0 # Works fine, but:
$ xinput set-prop 12 "Device Enabled" 0 # Works but sends infinite RET (0x0D) to
the terminal!

(One also notices that the latter does not leave any trace in Xorg.0.log.

The former causes two entries, as it comes back, but just disabled. And
no entries when reabling with "1".)

Anyway, one ends up using
# cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/66-jidanni.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Bypassed Busted Keyboard"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event0"

Bug#648796: symlinks fail in xorg.conf

2011-11-14 Thread jidanni
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.11.1.902-1

Undeniable proof that xserver-xorg-core cannot read symlinks here:
$ cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/66-jidanni.conf
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Bypassed Busted Keyboard"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-0-event-kbd"
Option "Ignore" "on"
EndSection

Does not work.

If one uses instead
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event0"
then it works perfectly.

Even though
$ ls -og /dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-0-event-kbd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 9 11-15 07:08 /dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-0-event-kbd
-> ../event0

Removing MatchIsKeyboard "on" does not help.

Bug#648792: netatalk: bogus EA header file and error calling ea_open errors prevent file moves or deletions

2011-11-14 Thread Tim Miller Dyck
Package: netatalk
Version: 2.1.2-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hello,

Mac OSX 10.6 clients cannot move or delete some files shared out by Netatalk.
Syslog shows the following error:

... afpd[30625]: ea_open('.AppleDouble/22-01B-for discussion.doc::EA'): bogus
EA header file
... afpd[30625]: ea_deletefile('22-01B-for discussion.doc'): error calling
ea_open

This problem has also been reported on the netatalk-admins list at
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=EC8BD16E-FBA7-4C28-A4ED-037623413CB5%40otenet.gr&forum_name=netatalk-admins

A patch was posted by Nikos Chatzimpontozis at that same thread which is
reported to fix the error (in libatalk/vfs/ea.c).

This patch has been committed to trunk by Frank Lahm but 2.2.1 was already out.

Could this patch be applied to the Squeeze release?

Thanks,
Tim Miller Dyck

2011-11-14 Thread Dave Steele
Package: amule-gnome-support
Version: 2.3.1-1
User: debian...@lists.debian.org

The Piuparts sid log at piuparts.d.o has a broken symlink failure for:

  http://piuparts.debian.org/sid/pass/amule-gnome-support_2.3.1-1.log

A very large number (6,000+) of sid packages at piuparts.debian.org,
which are otherwise passing all tests, are showing the same warning
for the same symlink.

The symlink is maintained by the fontconfig source package. The
current version, 2.8.0-3, released 6/28/2011, tests without this
error. The amule-gnome-support log, dated 11/12/2011, contains the
warning. A local test against amule-gnome-support yielded the same
warning.

And then this debconf protocol corruption happens somehow while the main

file-preseed.isinstallable hiding that menu item? (This is almost as if
there are two things trying to talk to cdebconf at the same time.)

Something is surely corrupted in the debconf protocol at this point,
because lots of things end up in the main menu that are replies to other

Bug#648785: libreoffice-l10n-th: Recommended Thai font package has been renamed

2011-11-14 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan
Source: libreoffice-l10n-th
Version: 1:3.4.4-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

libreoffice-l10n-th is currently recommending ttf-thai-tlwg, but this package
has been renamed to fonts-thai-tlwg, according to the new Debian font package
naming policy. (ttf-thai-tlwg is still available as 'oldlibs' dummy
transitional package, but it will be obsolete in the future.)

So, please update the Recommends: field from ttf-thai-tlwg to fonts-thai-tlwg.

Bug#648762: [Debian-med-packaging] Bug#648762: mira: Fix detection of libexpat

2011-11-14 Thread Michael Terry
Upstream is using the macro AX_LIB_EXPAT. They need to generate their
next tarball using a newer version of autoconf-archive, at least
version 2011.03.17 [1], which includes a fix for this [2]. And then
they need to make sure to switch to using EXPAT_LIBS instead of
EXPAT_LDFLAGS (since the macro changed which variable it defines).

My patch is just a minimally-invasive workaround until they they do
that.

Bug#648387: [copyright-format] English proofreading.

2011-11-14 Thread Charles Plessy
Steve,

it has been monthes that we are waiting for you to say more precisely what is
wrong with the current text. Your comments were promised by Lars for April:

“Steve, my co-driver, says he has a couple of issues he wants to fix before we
are finished with DEP5. He'll write patches and submit them for discussion
  about next weekend or so.”

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/04/msg00527.html

You write “I'm inclined to ignore this altogether in favor of working on the
real problems with the text.” If I may suggest a starting point, there is
http://bugs.debian.org/609160#146

Also, Stefano asked you for a timeline on debian-project:

  http://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2011/09/msg00028.html

You mention in http://bugs.debian.org/633797 “the list of issues that I
consider blockers”. Please share it.

Lastly, you mention in this current thread: “I don't think I'm going to merge
this into the dep repo”. If you mean to fork the latest draft that is developed
in the debian-policy Git repository, I ask you do reconsider.

In any case, your comments and patches are welcome. But I find it unacceptable
to constantly push the emergency stop button without precise justification.

Bug#633797: copyright-format: "with exception" underspecified

2011-11-14 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Steve Langasek wrote:

> However, the history of the draft shows that people are concerned

Good point. For example, the "GPL-2 with OpenSSL exception" and
"OpenSSL" licenses are compatible, while GPL-2 and the OpenSSL
licenses are not.

[...]
> I have a slight preference for:
>
>GPL-2+ with OpenSSL and Font exceptions

Sounds fine to me. FWIW the only event that I can imagine making me
care one way or another is if someone implementing a parser finds some
particular syntax difficult to parse.

So that means, roughly:

Exceptions are signaled by including "with
exceptions" at the end of the short name. The word
"exception" or "exceptions" can be used. Each keyword must be
a single word (see the list below for standard exception
keywords), and the list of keywords is formatted as a list of
words separated by "and".

Example license field

License: GPL-2+ with OpenSSL and Font and GCC-Runtime-Library exceptions

The above rough text says 'including at the end' of the short name
instead of 'appending' because the file needs a stand-alone License
paragraph describing the license including exceptions unless the
License field included an explanation after the short name.

I didn't define what "a single word" means but I imagine in the final
text we might want to, to avoid being able to misparse the above
example as listing only two exceptions --- one called "OpenSSL and
Font", and the other called "GCC-Runtime-Library".

Bug#648784: 30K * /etc/motd broken symlink warnings in piuparts.d.o

2011-11-14 Thread Dave Steele
Package: initscripts
Version: 2.88dsf-13.13
Severity: Important
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts piuparts.d.o

A very large number (~30,000) of packages at piuparts.debian.org,
which are otherwise passing all tests, are showing a warning for the
broken symlink "/etc/motd -> /var/run/motd". That link is maintained
by the initscripts package.

The current version of initscripts (2.88dsf-13.13, released 11/03/11)
passes a local Piuparts without a warning (symlinks is made in
initscripts.postinst, and torn down in initscripts.postrm). Also, a
(very small) sample of recent additions to the sid "but logfile
contains 'broken symlinks'" were tested locally without warnings, both
with and without the piuparts "-a" option. The version of initscripts
listed on piuparts.d.o, under "essential-required", is the current
version.

Despite this, piuparts.d.o continues to accumulate packages with this
warning. A recent example is libedata-book1.2-dev, tested last

Yes, it's still a problem because it steals time from the policy editors
and/or DEP drivers away from substantive issues. And when I say "I'm
inclined to ignore it", I mean that I don't think I'm going to merge this
into the dep repo.

I don't think readability matters much when it still doesn't say what it
needs to.

It seems to work as expected for me (iow, if either of the two are
installed, it proceeds with using the installed package). I tested both
variants on latest unstable, so I'm at a loss to explain the failure you're
seeing - can you forward the build output showing the issue?

Allowing either package to satisfy the dependency means more people have
been able to continue to build and use these packages, which helps those
users who are not using unstable, so unless its not feasible I'd prefer to
leave that option open to them.

cheers.

Readline, libicu and cwiid do not appear to be linked against in the
right order in the build process, which yields the undefined
references above. The same error happens on all architectures we test
[2] (amd64, i386, armel, powerpc), but I suspect it also comes up on
the other architectures in Debian as well.

Attached is a patch that resolves the issue, it would be helpful if
you could include it in your package or review it.

Hi,

I am almost sure I checked that insteadOf worked soon after the bug was
closed, but it does not seem to work now. Upon 'git annex get', I get:
"git-annex: copying from non-ssh, non-http repo not supported".
Also, the error is not the same on a freshly cloned repository, on which
I get:

Try making some of these repositories available:
bb80923e-ebc5-11e0-bd7a-e3011d062a4e -- lab: main repository

git-annex: get: 1 failed

Then (after having changed the remote to its full url, get an annexed
file and changed the url again to use the insteadOf), the first error
appears.

It happens with versions 3.2011 and 3.20111011~bpo60+2.

5.10.1-18 returns foo.
5.12.4-6 returns an empty string.

Pretty weird given the entire perl testsuite passed. Based on
previous builds, the main problem area is thread support.

There is some glibc/perl issue. Could that be the problem?

There's no point in declaring the spec "1.0" while ambiguities like this one
remain. This is in fact on the list of issues that I consider blockers for
DEP5.

You can always say GPL-2+-with-anything as a custom license name, but the
value in spelling out standardized license tags at all as part of the spec
is that it allows for mechanical extraction (and eventually, automated
checking of license compatibility and accuracy of license information). If
it's going to be extended in a free-form manner, what's the value in
partially specifying the name?

One benefit, certainly, is that you can assume that "GPL with
exception(s)" gives you at *least* all the same rights that the GPL does,
since GPL exceptions can only grant additional permissions and not take them
away. However, the history of the draft shows that people are concerned
about knowing whether *specific* common exceptions are in effect, so I think
the spec should include a standardized way of expressing these common
exceptions, including in combination.

Of the various options suggested above for combining exceptions, I have no
strong preferences; I think it would be bikeshedding to spend overly long
discussing the options. Does anyone else have a preferred option that we
could quickly reach consensus on and enact?

I have a slight preference for:

GPL-2+ with OpenSSL and Font exceptions

because it's both easy to parse and reads naturally in English.

So, to be clear, does that mean that (assuming they don't change the
meaning) you object to these changes, or only that you do not want to
spend time dealing with them? In other words, if some portion of the
"everyone" whose time is wasted wants to spend time that way, would
that be a problem?

For what it's worth, I find the text more readable after JBR's changes
than before.

I think the effort to have this proofread by debian-l10n-english at this
stage is misguided, because there are serious problems with the *standards
language* of the current draft, which makes it nearly impossible for
implementors to get things right due to the resulting ambiguities. I
haven't reviewed the proposed diff, but I don't expect a proofreading effort
to have resulted in significant improvements.

Charles inquired privately whether I objected to this strategy, but only
waited a day before requesting proofreading from debian-l10n-english, so,

I think merging such changes (which at a glance appear to include arbitrary
preferences of word choice) is a waste of everyone's time and I'm inclined
to ignore this altogether in favor of working on the real problems with the
text.

Bug#648781: debian-installer: unattended installation using preseed is interrupted by installer main menu popping up

2011-11-14 Thread Johannes Schauer
Package: debian-installer

When using this preseed file:

after the "Install the base system" step this appears and interrupts the
installation, prompting for user input:

http://mister-muffin.de/p/Ai7F.png

Also notice the wrong menu entries.

The same error happens with more minimal preseed files.

It turns out that the problem only occurs when having:

d-i mirror/suite string sid
d-i mirror/udeb/suite string sid

When choosing wheezy instead, everything is fine.

I gathered debug output with the DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer option and with
this preseed file:

http://mister-muffin.de/debian/preseed2.txt

(which will produce the following interrupting main menu:
http://mister-muffin.de/p/qlbd.png)

Here is the syslog from the point where the menu appeared:

And here a tarball of the directory, which is created after hitting
"save debug logs" in the main menu:

Dear Jakub,

I think that this is a good point, but I am unsure if we have the capacity to
fix it before releasing version 1.0 of the format. I definitely would not
object.

I looked at how my favorite parser, config-edit, is doing with exceptions, and
if I add a ‘OpenSSL and Font’ or an ‘OpenSSL, Font’ exception, it stops with
error at loading…

If other people would like this point addressed before DEP 5 is finalised, it
is time to participate.

Increasing the severity a bit, since such setups can happen if you
upgraded your system via a chroot.
The initscript postinst script will create a symlink /run → /var/run on
upgrades if it detects a chroot environment.

Yeah, processes should not get stuck in the D state like that.
Questions:

 1. Is this still reproducible? How do the latest squeeze and
sid kernels behave? (To test a sid kernel on a squeeze system,
the only packages aside from linux-image-foo you should need from
outside squeeze are linux-base and initramfs-tools.)

 2. Please try uninstalling or blacklisting the nvidia driver to
make sure that is not the cause, and send full "dmesg" output
from this happening if possible.

 3. Output from dmesg after running "echo t >/proc/sysrq-trigger"
while in this state would also be useful. (Or run
"echo 1 >/proc/sys/kernel/sysrq" to disable the paranoid checks
and press alt-sysrq + t while in that state. See
Documentation/sysrq.txt for details.)

 4. (I'm just curious:) Does the nouveau driver behave any
differently?

Thanks for reporting, and sorry for the slow response.
Jonathan

It's mentioned (14 times) in the user guide, for instance:

/usr/share/doc/lynx-cur/lynx_help/Lynx_users_guide.html.gz

The comments in .lynxrc also tell about it.

Starting with no .lynxrc, and no $LYNX_CFG variable to confuse things,
I am able to save my settings. Without more information, there's nothing
to fix.

Bug#648777: lintian: Generalize distribution check

2011-11-14 Thread Daniel Dehennin
Package: lintian
Version: 2.5.3
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

I propose a patch to generalize the distribution check, permitting to
easily configure the list of allowed distributions.

The idea here is to add a file under 'data/changelog-file/' with a name
ending in '-dists'.

This file contains regular expressions to test against the distribution
name.

git pull git://git.baby-gnu.net/lintian dad/generalize-distribution-check

I attach the patches for review.

Regards.

Subject: [PATCH] Generaliste distribution name check.

This patch allow to create a new data/changelog-file/-dists
file to add new valid distribution regexps.

* checks/changes-file: Build an array of distribution regexp and test
  distribution fiedl against each one.

* data/changelog-file/debian-dists: Define full regexp instead of only
  base distribution.

* data/changelog-file/ubuntu-dists: Ditoo.

There is no sense to send this patch to upstream because squeeze was

Thanks, this is interesting.

Now for some stupid questions:

 - does linking with gold instead (i.e., installing binutils-gold)
   change the outcome?

 - does using -Wl,--no-undefined in place of -Wl,-z,defs change
   anything? Presumably -Wl,--no-undefined
-Wl,--error-unresolved-symbols errors out --- what is the message
   when it does?

 - what does using "-z defs" buy us when the error is demoted to a
warning by a later command-line option, anyway? Though I still
don't understand what is causing this code path to break.

Bug#648775: transition: mono 2.10

2011-11-14 Thread Iain Lane
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

Dear Release Team,

[ re-filing as a bug per jcristau ]

We'd like to start the Mono transition[0,0.5] soon.

The packages have been aged in experimental for some time now, and this
transition has also taken place in Another Place with no notable
badness.

Following the RT's request for a dry run (Model 3 in [0.5]), Julian
Taylor did a test rebuild[1] of all rdepends and to the best of our
knowledge we have resolved the outstanding issues so that all that
should be required are no-change rebuilds or uploads from experimental
to unstable, as well as one removal of a package not yet ported
(dlr-languages).

Roughly, the plan will be

  * Upload all of mono & cli-common from experimental to unstable
  * Upload build tools (nant)
  * Remove mono-debugger
  * Get LO bindings disabled
  * No-change rebuild / binNMU all applications against the 4.0
profile
  * No-change rebuild / binNMU all libraries against the 4.0 profile, in
leaf-first order

The reason for this ordering is because 4.0 executables can load 2.0
libraries but not vice-versa. A great deal of packages are pure managed
code, so arch:all and will therefore require sourceful uploads.

You can see the results of our testing at [2].

Please let us know when we can go ahead.

Cheers,
on behalf of the Debian Mono Group,

My apologies; I read the claim in the package synopsis that it

I think we were close, and it's still worth a few more tries. Option
A, with a minimal change from my last version (probably not enough):
maybe just replacing "configured" with "set up" would make it sound
less like an "autoboot: yes" option:

_Description: Automatically start Linux Containers on boot?
Please choose whether appropriately set up Linux Containers should be
automatically started during system boot, and shut down on reboot or
  halt.
  .
To take advantage of this, copy or symlink their configuration files
  into the /etc/lxc/auto directory.

Or switching to something a bit more syntactically heavy:

  [...]
Please choose whether Linux Containers with appropriately arranged
configurations should be automatically started during system boot, and
shut down on reboot or halt.
  [...]

Otherwise we're getting on for something like this:

Please choose whether Linux Containers configured in /etc/lxc/auto
should be automatically started during system boot, and shut down on
  reboot or halt.

And yes, by this point it might be simpler to stick to the
single-paragraph approach.

That's not a lot of information. A few possibilities:

a) your home directory is writable by other users
b) you're saving the options, but not seeing the ones that are configurable
   using ENABLE_LYNXRC
c) you're attempting to use the same filename for settings (normally ~/.lynxrc)
   and the configuration (normally lynx.cfg).

Bug#648769: ITP: pylibtiff -- wrapper to the libtiff library to Python using ctypes

* Package name: pylibtiff
  Version : 0.3.0
  Upstream Author : Pearu Peterson
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/pylibtiff/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : wrapper to the libtiff library to Python using ctypes

PyLibTiff is a package that provides:
 .
  * a wrapper to the libtiff library to Python using ctypes.
  * a pure Python module for reading and writing TIFF and LSM files. The images
are read as numpy.memmap objects so that it is possible to open images that
otherwise would not fit to computers RAM.
 .
There exists many Python packages such as PIL, FreeImagePy that support reading
and writing TIFF files. The PyLibTiff project was started to have an efficient
and direct way to read and write TIFF files using the libtiff library without
the need to install any unnecessary packages or libraries. The pure Python
module was created for reading "broken" TIFF files such as LSM files that in
some places use different interpretation of TIFF tags than what specified in
the TIFF specification document. The libtiff library would just fail reading
such files. In addition, the pure Python module is more memory efficient as the
arrays are returned as memory maps. Support for compressed files is not
 implemented yet.
 .
Warning: pylibtiff currently supports reading and writing images that are
stored using TIFF strips. Patches are welcome to support tiled TIFF images.

Dear Maintainer,

Noticed that weekly Analog run via cron.weekly was about 4 weeks
old. This was prior to a apt-get upgrade. Upgrade broke something.

anacron hasn't changed in ages, and the last cron upload was 2 months
ago, so at the moment, I have no idea what could have gone wrong.

Still possibly within timeframe. I do apt-get upgrade infrequently,
the change could be within the last 3 months.

the analog script has perms
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 63 Sep 25 10:35 analog

$ cat /etc/cron.weekly/analog
#! /bin/sh

test -x analog  || exit 1

nice -10 analog

exit 0

What do the log files say? Did other (non-anacron) jobs run
successfully)? Are there any failure messages for anacron?

I have an IP logging script in daily that is running. HMMM.

Checked anacron and looked at logic. Anacron appears to remove itself
from running processes after running once.

This is by design. anacron is not a daemon, it is supposed to be
started

by cron.

Ok.

Cron checks for anacron and if executable then doesn't run daily,
weekly or monthly. But anacron is not resident and only runs when
daily, weekly or monthly cron runs. This circular logic means that
daily, weekly or monthly will never run.

You are overlooking the script anacron installs to /etc/cron.d. It is
run on a daily basis, which means that all the jobs that cron is
skipping in /etc/cron.{daily,weekly,monthly} are executed by anacron.

Then downgrade this bug as that covers standard running logic so
it's probably in my script or setup.

Bug#648768: tcpdump: does not include words "mac" "address" "hardware" in the -e option paragraph in the manpage

2011-11-14 Thread xavier renaut
Package: tcpdump
Version: 4.1.1-2+b1
Severity: minor

to print the hardware mac address,
the option is -e.

here is the manpage paragraph :
-e Print the link-level header on each dump line.

would be nice to add :

on ethernet : print the hardware mac address.

it would help searching the manpage.

thanks

Bug#648765: bison: don't generate code that causes -Werror=format-security errors

2011-11-14 Thread Michael Terry
Package: bison
Version: 1:2.5.dfsg-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

Dear Maintainer,

I noticed that nip2 has a FTBFS due to code generated by bison (bug #643446)
due to the non-use of string literals to yyerror.

I believe the attached patch will fix such errors.

Thanks for considering the patch, which I have applied in Ubuntu.

Bug#647866: Network: Packages over hub via bnc not received

2011-11-14 Thread debian

Because it seems to be a problem in driver mv643xx_eth I have now
analysed the source code.

For debug reason I disabled the error detection in the driver
/*
if ((cmd_sts & (RX_FIRST_DESC | RX_LAST_DESC |
ERROR_SUMMARY))
!= (RX_FIRST_DESC | RX_LAST_DESC))
*/
and built the kernel again.

Now packages which come via hub and bnc cable will not dropped anymore
(as expected because check is disabled).
For the moment I can not determine, that anything does not work
concerning the network transmission.

I am not well versed in the code of this driver, but perhaps there is a
bug in the evaluation of the error status bits of cmd_sts or the error
bits itself ?

Best regards
Hermann

This new version basically replaced the build-depends on
  libreadline-gplv2-dev
by a build-depends on
  libreadline5-dev | libreadline-gplv2-dev

Given libreadline5-dev is not in the archive, the package can't be
built, and the bug is still there. Reopening it, marking 3.1.6 as
non-fixed.

2011-11-14 Thread Jakub Adam

Hi Thomas,

do you need org.eclipse.jgit.generated.storage.dht.proto artifact for your
gerrit packaging efforts?
For now I'd like to upload a package without DHT storage and enable it later
when fix for
protobuf is shipped [1], probably together with next jgit upstream release.

Bug#594283: grub: non-standard gcc/g++ used for build (gcc-4.3)

Hi dear Grub maintainers,

I just tried to _build_ Grub (Legacy) with the currently default GCC, and
(without much surprise), it builds fine (at least on amd64).

A possible proposed NMU is attached (basically removing the explicit
references to gcc-4.3 and Build-Depending on gcc-multilib [amd64]), but I
can't be confident enough to upload it without having tested it.

So, Grub maintainers, what do you want to do? As this RC bug shows, Grub
Legacy currently doesn't build from source; so there are probably two
solutions only:

a) Build it with the default compiler, get it tested and migrated to testing,
b) remove it from Debian (is grub-pc ready enough [I use it for a very long
time, but I don't have special needs…] ?)

What's your opinion ?

Cheers,

Bug#645850: lxc package debconf templates

2011-11-14 Thread Daniel Baumann

On 11/14/2011 02:27 PM, Justin B Rye wrote:

(Just for a start, why is that package called "linux-container"
rather than "linux-containers"? Is it perhaps an unwise
abbreviation of "Linux Container tools"?)

package names are not and should not use plurals if they are generic.

Wouldn't that rule out package names like "coreutils", "lm-sensors",
and "locales"?

no, those are fine, since they do provide stuff in plural.

the group of packages that i had in mind was e.g. kernel packages. i
guess you'd agree that they should not be named linux-images-2.6.$something.

The package "linux-container" does not provide either one Linux
Container or many Linux Containers. It provides utilities for the LXC
system

no, it applies the necessary modifications to a normal system in order
to make that usable as a container for lxc, see README.Debian.

(and it's not named lxc-container for that matter, since it will later
be split out so that it handles vserver/xen/$whatever transformations
too; see TODO)

_Description: Automatically start Linux Containers on boot?
Please choose whether appropriately configured Linux Containers should
be automatically started during system boot, and shut down on reboot or
   halt.
   .
To take advantage of this, copy or symlink their configuration files
   into the /etc/lxc/auto directory.

s/appropriately configured //

otherwise sounds good, thanks.

Well, taking out the "appropriately configured" makes it less obvious
that these are particular containers (referred back to by the "their"
later on) rather than the whole LXC system that's being autostarted.

Are you unhappy with it because it sounds as if it's a variable being
set in the configuration file?

yes, it sounds to me as if they would need to be specifically prepared
(in the rootfs or in the config file) to be auto started/stopped.

If so, would "appropriately linked" or
something like that be better?

it doesn't necessary need to be a sym- or hardlink, the config file can
also be a copied. how about this:

Please choose whether Linux Containers which have their configuration
file copied or symlinked into the /etc/lxc/auto directory should

be automatically started during system boot, and shut down on reboot or
halt.

splitting into two sounded first a good idea, but makes things actually
more complicated. what do you think?

He was right --- this functionality is the kernel's responsibility.

Sounds like this is a regression. Can you try the kernel from squeeze
or squeeze-proposed-updates, to confirm?

Please test without the nvidia and virtualbox drivers, so we can rule
those out as a cause (or track it down from that direction if one of
those turns out to be the cause).

Output of "dmesg" and of "acpidump" from immediately after booting
a working and a non-working kernel would be helpful, too.

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan
