Bug#638680: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the phpldapadmin package

2012-01-21 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of phpldapadmin and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the phpldapadmin Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es fr gl it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the phpldapadmin package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Monday, January 30,
2012. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Sunday, January 22, 2012 : send this notice
Monday, January 30, 2012 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Tuesday, January 31, 2012 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Tuesday, February 07, 2012 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Hello Arthur and thanks again for all your work on this package,

Given that 0.8.5 now reached testing, do you have more visibility on
the moement you can do an upload (including of course the translation
fixes I'm monotoring)?

OK, I'm preparing ITK 3.20.1-3 which adds dependency from
libinsighttoolkit3-dev to libvxl1-dev. This fixes the
immediate problem ...

... because FindVXL.cmake is part of libvxl1-dev.

Unfortunately, it exposes a different problem. The build now requires
file /usr/share/vxl/cmake/doxy_header.html which I cannot find.

Bug#656841: exim4-config: Support SMTPS via macro and update README

2012-01-21 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.77-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

In light of new SMTPS client support by Exim 4.77 and raising popularity
of DKIM/SPF, I proposed to update package as attached patch.

This patch allows user to use SMTPS without making intrusive changes to
the Debian defaults just like AUTH_CLIENT_ALLOW_NOTLS_PASSWORDS macro
did for enabling nonencrypted plaintext password.

This patch also updates README.

== FYI: Some facts on smarthost services by ISPs ==

I have tested smarthost services with:
 * gmail.com   STARTTLS 587 (Free email)
 * yahoo.co.jp SMTPS469 (Free email)
 * nifty.com STARTTLS 587 (SMTP ISP for my OFC service)

Gmail accepts any envelope From_ address and header From: address but
overwrite such information automatically with the Gmail email account
you used to connect to their SMTP service. Then they sign your mail
with DKIM.

Yahoo (you can get a free account in their Asian ISPs such as Japan and
India by opting in for their advertisement mail while their US service
seems to be only for payed customers.) I tested with Japanese service.

As I understand, since Yahoo did not offer STARTTLS service nor CRAM5,
people were using Yahoo with plaintext password over unencrypted
connection using AUTH_CLIENT_ALLOW_NOTLS_PASSWORDS macro. This is not a
good idea for security.

Since Exim 4.77 supports SMTPS, I tested it for Yahoo without setting
AUTH_CLIENT_ALLOW_NOTLS_PASSWORDS macro but adding "protocol = smtps" to
/etc/exim4/conf.d/transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp_smarthost .
I confirmed that it works fine. Unlike Gmail, it does not rewrite email
address. If envelope From_ is not resolvable address, it rejects such
mails. So use of /etc/email-addresses is essential for using them as the
smarthost. Also, I noticed that if the header From: address is not the
email address of theirs, it does not sign DKIM. If only the header From:
address is the email address of their, Yahoo signs such mail with DKIM.

Nifty seems to do nothing on DKIM and does not enforce anything on the
From: header and send mail with the original non-Nifty From: address.
When Gmail receives such tweaked mail with my debian.org address, having
envelope address pointing to my Nifty's email account by using proper
entry in the /etc/email-addresses improved spam filter position on SPF
to "pass".

Try -hackers first and if you don't get a response after a week or so, try
-users. Or just cross-post and be done with it.

Debian-release,

I would like to request a transition slot for linphone, libexosip2 and libosip2,
for which pkg-voip-maintainers are responsible.

All packages have been uploaded to experimental.

linphone transition is liblinphone3 -> libphone4, no external rdepends

linphone provides libmediastreamer0
rdepends kopete, no binNMU required. kopete is also part of kde transition.

transition libosip2-4 -> libosip2-7
rdepends sipwitch siproxy libexosip
all binNMU OK

tranistion libexosip2-4 -> libexosip2-7
rdepends sipwitch binNMU OK

Bug#656824: Reinstalling GRUB did not help

2012-01-21 Thread James Robertson
I re-installed grub-pc and grub2 using the following commands:

apt-get install --reinstall grub2
apt-get install --reinstall grub-pc.

This did not help.

I then purged the following packages and answered yes to the debconf
prompt about removing /boot/grub and reinstalled them:

apt-get autoremove --purge grub-common grub-pc-bin grub-pc grub2 grub2-common

This did not help either.

Booting linux-image-3.1.0-1-amd64 works fine.

Is there something specific I am missing or should this bug be re-opened?

Thanks

[...]

Which is:

if (!have_band) {
WARN_ON(1);
return -EINVAL;
}

and have_band is set if any element of wiphy->bands[] is non-NULL.

ipw_wdev_init() clearly does initialise wiphy->bands... except that it
seems to depend on the regulatory area having been determined already,
which I suppose must be done during the callback from netdev
registration (ipw_net_init()). Judging by the comment about this in
ipw2100.c, it's probably important that initialisation is done in this
order.

So maybe cfg80211 should instead tolerate registration in this order?

Ben.

Bug#613626: wrong option for modprobe in man page of pcimodules

In fact, the argument -s is still valid, it means log result via syslog. The
-k was the autoclean option back in modutils 2.4. There is no mapping to the
-k option in the module-init-tools version of modprobe.

I think that:

for module in $(pcimodules) ; do
  modprobe -s "$module"
done

Would be a good replacement example.

Full build log is at:
http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=oce&arch=alpha&ver=0.8.0-1&stamp=1326555718

The build error is caused by a misdetection of Alpha Linux as Alpha OSF1
Unix in inc/MFT_FileRecord.hxx beginning at line 50 with:

#if defined ( __alpha ) || ( DECOSF1 )
#include
#define MMAP(file_addr,mmap_size,fildes) \
mmap((caddr_t) 0x10,(size_t) mmap_size,PROT_READ, \
MAP_FILE | MAP_PRIVATE | MAP_VARIABLE,fildes,(off_t)
file_addr)
#define MUNMAP(mmap_addr,mmap_size) \
munmap((caddr_t) mmap_addr,(size_t) mmap_size)
#endif  // __alpha

The pre-defined compiler macro __alpha is defined if the hardware is
Alpha whatever the OS and so the above code, intended only for OSF1,
gets compiled under Linux.

Maybe modifying the conditional to be something like:

#if (defined ( __alpha ) || ( DECOSF1 )) && ! defined( linux )

would fix it --- but I don't know what is the appropriate macro to
detect Linux.

I did a quick grep and check of all other defined(__alpha) occurences
and they look fine to me, but did notice issues that might affect other
architectures supported by Debian, that is, the code has the appearance
of being written with the assumption that Linux is Intel only.

Cheers
Michael.

Bug#655144: rhythmbox: Seg fault in rhythmdb_entry_type_get_name ()

2012-01-21 Thread Simon Waters
I suspect this bug was some sort of extension compatibility issue.

Removed rhythmbox-plugins and the problem seems to be fixed.

Although not sure what plugins I was using or how to check.

Then don't worry about it. I'll send the patch upstream for review.

Looking inside your patch i've learned it's related to wifi. That could
explain why i haven't seen any problem so far, because i use this laptop

This is a problem to test your patch, because i have no wireless network
at hand. The other problem is the current lack of time: i hope i can
find some time to learn how to build kernels nowadays, then doing it on
my old hardware, but i cannot guarantee.
It would be really really helpful and time saving if you could provide

Bug#656242: perl: .packlist file missing

I really don't see why this needs this discussion: I reported an obvious
bug (missing file(s)) in debians perl package.

It turned out that this breakage was done deliberately by the
maintainer(s) of the perl package, because they thought they know better
what perl should do then upstream and changed semantics.

Even documentation was changed in an attempt to make the new, incompatible
syntax, somehow less broken.

Unfortunately, when debian redefined .packlist semantics this way, it
_kept_ the name of perl, instead of renaming it to, say debperl.

The result is a debian perl, which is incompatible to standard perl, but
confusingly uses the same name. Standard perl has not been packaged.

So the situation is quite simple: either debian fixes its perl by adding
the missing files, or it creates a real perl package and packages both or
it simply stays broken.

This is not my decision, but a question of how much breakage debian wants
to introduce into standard programs.

Well, the underlying problem here is action without understanding. The
fact that perl has a .packlist for it's core library shows that .packlists
are not some module management mechanism.

> obvious overlap with the Debian packaging tools. Perhaps part of
> the rationale was to prevent uninstallation of packaged modules behind

And whats your evidence for this conjecture?

Even if it were true (it's not, because using this to remove .packlists is
not a common way to remove packages. In fact, if you want to uninstall a
module, you have to do this manually, and .packlists can be of help).

> Other than that, it's not clear to me if .packlist files for vendor
> directories are compatible with the Debian binary packaging:

Then removal is obviously wrong. Again, debian must have a reason to
remove these files, not a reason to add them.

> - is it guaranteed that every CPAN distribution generates a separate
>.packlist file, or are there cases where two distributions would have
>to touch the same .packlist ?

No, of course not - a distribution that has the same name needs to use the
same location for the .packlist file.

> - what should happen with diversions? For example, both
>libmodule-corelist-perl and perl ship /usr/bin/corelist, and the perl

You can break your system with diversions in any number of ways. What
happens when you divert /sbin/init? Well, you better provide a compatible
executable there.

Likewise, if you divert, say, a .pm file, then obviously something has to
fill the gap. If the perl .packlist says there is a strict.pm, and it's
diverted, too bad, you better provide a replacement for it or very few
perl programs will run.

Lack of capability in dpkg should not result in removal of files,
obviously. If something is imperfect under very special circumstances
then it's still better than breaking it for everybody.

> where it was suggested that ExtUtils::Installed should keep working

Well, it doesn't work like the original module does, and somebody felt
compelled to patch it's documentation so debian can claim "works as
documented".

Nevertheless, this makes debians perl an incompatible fork of perl,
because library semantics have changed. Documenting that doesn't make it
go away.

This is the last mail I will write about this - I really don't think debian
should require lengthy discussion to fix this bug, but intead, it should be
fixed unless there are known reasons not to.

Guessing and claiming lack of specification is approaching the problem
form the wrong side: you need a rationale for removing stuff, not for
keeping it, when managing software.

Good luck,

Sorry, I don't believe this can be fixed in Debian 6.0 'squeeze'. There
have been many other changes to the IPv6 address configuration code and
I don't think we can safely cherry-pick these.

Install a kernel from testing/unstable. You will currently find Linux
3.2 in unstable, and this is likely to be the version we use in Debian
7.0 'wheezy'.

The crontab keywords @daily,@hourly,@monthly,@weekly are defined like this:
  @monthly   Run once a month, "0 0 1 * *".

Perhaps I just don't see the reason, but is there any that these are not
aligned (i.e. all at minute 0
and - if applicable - hour 0, day 1)?

Cheers,
Chris.

Bug#656833: gmediaserver: libupnp3 -> libupnp6 transition

2012-01-21 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: gmediaserver
Version: 0.13.0-7~libupnp6+1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch ipv6

Hi,

To aid the forthcoming transition from libupnp3 to libupnp6, please
could you apply the attached patch to Build-Depend on libupnp-dev ?
The intention is that this will always point to the stable branch
of libupnp.

Please note that libupnp6 will introduce IPv6 support to libupnp by
default. I hope that I've added support for it correctly in the patch.

Many thanks,

Nick Leverton

Hello. Sorry for the delay in acknowledging this bug. My debian time
is very limited these days. :-/

In any case, I am about to upload a fix to the RC security bug. Once
that clears, I'll take a look at this one. Thanks. I'm sending you an
additional response privately.

Bug#637142: gdm3: .ICEauthority-l seems to be the problem

2012-01-21 Thread Jared Raddigan
Package: gdm3
Version: 3.0.4-4
Followup-For: Bug #637142

This seemed to happen right after I changed my desktop background using image
viewer 3.2.2 so it's possible it might be related. I had 3 .ICEauthority files

.ICEauthority
.ICEauthority-c
.ICEauthority-l

I removed them and rebooted and the error was gone.

Using service "gdm3 stop" and service "gdm3 start" and ran a few tests

I replace the newly created .ICEauthority (-c and -l where not recreated after
boot) with old copy and gdm3 would still start fine. I then added in
.ICEauthority-c and .ICEauthority-l back into /var/lib/gdm3 and the problem
came back. I then removed only .ICEauthority-l and the problem went away but
when gnome started my background looked like a bunch of pixels which made me
think maybe it was related with the background change. I then rebooted and the
problem was gone and my background was normal. Looking in the directly it
appears .ICEauthoirty-c was deleted and now I only have the original
.ICEauthority file which using diff now says is different after reboot.

Bug #648666 might fix this but it appears they might only remove
.ICEauthority.

Also, once fixed GDM does not seem to be opening any slower than I remember
before I experienced the bug.

It appears that a transmit completion results in dropping the last
reference to a PPPoL2TP tunnel, causing it to be destroyed.
pppo2ltp_tunnel_destruct() calls pppo2ltp_tunnel_closeall() (inlined
here) which calls lock_sock(), and that may sleep.

Although this was observed in 2.6.32, the bug appears to be present
today: l2tp_tunnel_destruct() calls l2tp_tunnel_closeall() calls
pppol2tp_session_close() calls lock_sock().

But maybe this is actually a ref-counting bug and the tunnel should
never actually be destroyed in atomic context.

Bug#656831: vlc: libupnp3 ->libupnp6 transition (packaging, patch)

2012-01-21 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: vlc
Version: 1.1.13-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch ipv6

Hi,

To aid the forthcoming transition from libupnp3 to libupnp6, please
could you apply the attached patch to Build-Depend on libupnp-dev ?
The intention is that this will always point to the stable branch
of libupnp.

Please note that libupnp6 will introduce IPv6 support to libupnp by
default but I think vlc is already OK with that. Many thanks,

Nick Leverton

I'm uploading a new version momentarily to unstable to fix it. Sorry
for the delay. I'm also preparing packages for stable-security and
oldstable-security. The patch is trivial to backport. Should I do the
uploads? I'm attaching the patches. If okay, I'll build against
oldstable and stable and upload.

Bug#656789: scid: FTBFS: fatal error: tcl.h: No such file or directory

2012-01-21 Thread peter green

tags 656789 +patch
thanks

Builds of scid in minimal environments (such as the autobuilders) are
failing:

The package already build-depends on tcl8.5-dev and it built fine when I tried
it in my pbuilder just now.

Taking another look at the failed build log on i386 I saw the following.

configure: Makefile configuration program for Scid
   Tcl/Tk version: 8.5
Your operating system is: Linux 2.6.32-5-686-bigmem
   Location of "tcl.h": /usr/include/tcl8.5
   Location of "tk.h": /usr/include/tcl8.5
Location of Tcl 8.5 library: /usr/lib
Location of Tk 8.5 library: /usr/lib
Location of X11 library: not found
Checking if your system already has zlib installed: yes.
   Using Makefile.conf.
Not all settings could be determined!
The default Makefile was written.
You will need to edit it before you can compile Scid.

While the last successful i386 build said

configure: Makefile configuration program for Scid
   Renaming "Makefile" to "Makefile.bak"
   Tcl/Tk version: 8.5
Your operating system is: Linux 2.6.32-5-686-bigmem
   Location of "tcl.h": /usr/include/tcl8.5
   Location of "tk.h": /usr/include/tcl8.5
Location of Tcl 8.5 library: /usr/lib
Location of Tk 8.5 library: /usr/lib
   Location of X11 library: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
Checking if your system already has zlib installed: yes.
   Using Makefile.conf.
The Makefile configured for your system was written.
Now just type "make" to compile Scid.

So it looks like the real problem is nothing to do with the build-depends* but
rather a problem in the configure script.

libx11-dev is pulled in indirectly by tk8.5-dev. Since the configure script is
looking for it explicitly, there should probablly be a direct build-dependency
but it IS getting installed in the autobuild environment so the main question
is why isn't the configure script detecting it?

So I decided to try the build in my (dirty) i386 chroot and was able to
reproduce the failure there. YAY

So I added some debug code to configure and got

x11Path=
   /usr/lib
   /usr/X11/lib
   /usr/X11R6/lib
   /usr/local/X11/lib
   /usr/local/X11R6/lib
   /usr/X/lib
   /usr/local/X/lib
   /usr/openwin/lib
   /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu

Looking further reveals that list was hardcoded in configure.

Next I decided to take a look back at the version of the package in testing.
It seems the version in testing had a list of all multiarch dirs debian uses
in "x11path" while the version in unstable only has x86_64-linux-gnu. Looking
at the current package it seems these directories got lost during patch
conversions and/or the import of the new upstream version.

It would be possible to simply restore the list. However I think hardcoding
a list of all multiarch dirs is a bad idea for two reasons. Firstly at some
point in the future more ports will likely come along which won't be in the
list. Secondly it raises the possibility of the wrong directory being
selected (after all the whole point of multiarch is to allow multiple
architecture versions of the same package to be installed).

So i decided to take a different approach, rather than patch the configure
script with a fixed list of paths I simply substitute the correct multiarch
path into the configure script using sed in debian/rules.

Patch is attatched which adds the sed code to debian/rules and also adds
a build-dependency on libx11-dev (as mentioned above) and
dpkg-dev (>= 1.16.0) (for DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH).

Can you test whether the attache patch fixes this (and doesn't cause any
new problems)? Instructions for rebuilding the kernel package are at:

Currently cfg80211 fails to create a "phy80211" symlink in sysfs from
the net device to the wiphy device. The latter needs to be registered
first.

Bug#656828: speech-dispatcher: HelloWorld example only speaks 'once' using Python API

2012-01-21 Thread Tim Skillman
Package: speech-dispatcher
Version: 0.7-6.1
Severity: important

I tried the sample code given for the Python speech API which is

import speechd
client = speechd.SSIPClient('test')
client.set_output_module('festival')
client.set_language('en')
client.set_punctuation(speechd.PunctuationMode.SOME)
client.speak("Hello World!")
client.close()

1) After running the script there was a pause and "Hello World" was spoken.

2) I then stopped the script and ran it again and the script immediately
stopped with no errors and no speech!

3) Sound continued to work for the rest of the system. It was only until I
rebooted that speech would work - but only once as before.

Bug#656827: ejabberd: don't generate a self-signed certificate

2012-01-21 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: ejabberd
Version: 2.1.9-1
Severity: whislist

Hi.

Currently ejabberd generates a self-signed certificate.
IMHO this doesn't make much sense, no one will recognise this certificate.
As it's just another self-signed host cert, wouldn't it be better to use
/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
?

Moreover, many people won't just use /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.pem but have
something like /etc/ejabberd/certificates or so.
Wouldn't it make sense to _only_ generate the certificate (again) when a
check like
grep /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.pem /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg
matches.

Cheers,
Chris.

if translates.js is the same for all the projects using sphinx then it
probably makes sense to symlink it, but it's also true that there's
only one occurrence of translate.js in all debian packages, so
probably we can also wait and see how the situation evolves.

that too, or differentiate the warning and error messages (that are
now the same, which could be a bit misleading).

but sphinx/search/ja.py doesn't define any js_stemmer_code so it uses
the default implementation in __init__.py which is the dummy one.

RDF::Helper's goal is to offer a syntactic sugar which will enable

methods to work with RDF in a way that would be familiar to Perl

Right, it's only a warning about translations.js.

In theory we _could_ move translations to the libjs-* package and then
symlink them too, but this is probably too much hassle for very little
benefit.

But it we decide that not symlinking translations.js is by design, then
we should also silence the warning.

You mean they don't like not testing that other codepath with Linux?
Then let's keep the new patch Hurd-only, that's fine.

It has always been a will *not* to define PATH_MAX in GNU/Hurd.

BIND itself builds ok, yes, simply with ipv6 disabled (see #651001). The
issue is the mixture of bind and dhcpd code, where the bind side does
not enable ipv6, and dhcpd enables it.

Well, we'd like to manage to release with wheezy.

We have not tried, but if that's the way we can directly discuss the
patch with them, then we should probably do it. dhcp-hackers seems very
low-volume, I guess dhcp-users might be preferable?

Yes, this is the patch we discussed.

I'm expecting you'll receive something via the ISC, but I'll try to remember
what was said.

> - the PATH_MAX fix, which they _can_ check on GNU/Linux, since GNU/Linux

One of the concerns with this patch was that it was conditional not on the
Hurd OS, but on glibc being in use. I think they'd rather see this be
explicitly conditional on Hurd. I imagine they're worried about how this
would behave on other non-Linux OSes that don't use glibc but do have
PATH_MAX?

They asked if it were possible to add PATH_MAX compatibility to the Hurd
instead, since it's an OS that is under development.

I'm not sure if there was specific feedback on this chunk of the patch.

I'm pretty sure the BIND change (if it's the change to configure that I
think it is) has already been accepted (in a slightly different form). I'll
try to check in with them regularly between now and 4.2.3 to make sure that
that fix is going to be in it. Does BIND build okay on Hurd?

Bug#656707: xournal: Fonts do not display on Apple Preview

Hi Dylan:

Thanks, I will pass this upstream.

The PDF files that Xournal produces using 'Export to PDF' do not
display properly under Apple Preview on MacOS: the fonts are not
visible. PDF files produced by printing to a PDF file work fine.
Other PDF viewers seem to work fine, including, eg, Adobe Acrobat on
the Mac.

I've attached a small test xournal file and PDF files produced in the
two different ways.

I note that the cairo rendering library had a very similar bug 4 years
ago. See, eg,
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/cairo-bugs/2007-June/001256.html
Since xournal has its own font subsetting code, perhaps this bug was
inherited from somewhere else.

(The bug is doubtless ultimately in Apple Preview, but it seems worth
working around.)

Workarounds: Use print to pdf rather than the built-in export, or use
a different viewer.

Bug#651359: python-sphinx makes virtualenvwrapper FTBFS: unknown JavaScript code: debian/virtualenvwrapper/usr/share/doc/virtualenvwrapper/ja/html/_static/translations.js

2012-01-21 Thread Sandro Tosi
Hi,
I've looked into this issue, and it's not about translations.js but
about searchtools.js: given virtualenvwrapper provides multi-language
doc, sphinx generates a searchtools.js that might be different for
some langs, and in this case Japanese generates a searchtools that is
different from the reference copy in
/usr/share/javascript/sphinxdoc/1.0/searchtools.js. I'm attaching a
diff in case it might help.

It seems there could be 2 versions of searchtools.js: one for langs
with stemming rules and another without them.

The solution might be to include both versions in libjs-sphinxdoc and
link them case by case ?

Cheers,

Bug#656824: linux-image-3.2.0-1-amd64 Boot Failure

2012-01-21 Thread James Robertson
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.2.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After installing this kernel I was not able to boot to it and received
the following error on the console.

Loading Linux 3.2.0-1-amd64 ...
error: cannot read the Linux header.
Loading intitial ramdisk ...
error: you need to load the kernel first.

press any key to continue...

I use LVM with XFS on top of that, not sure if that has any relevance.

I also received a time out when Querying Debian BTS for reports on
linux-2.6 (source)... So apologies if this bug has already been
reported.

Bug#656683: kmod: Switching to kmod makes only one ATI driver between audio and video work

Thanks Marco,

I just tried the new package (which I re-compiled for amd64 from that
link).

Unfortunately, rebooting results in a lot of disk thrashing, because of
four "modprobe" processes that start eating all available memory.

After consuming about ~2 GB memory each, the kernel first tries killing
some other processes to free memory, then panics with an "out of memory
error".

So it looks the new package actually makes things worse :-|.

Cheers,

Ah, Pino pointed me at your planet.debian.org post.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised that the patch generates so much
discussion around it, but not about its content. Did they see my
updated patch with comments? There are basically three things in it:

- the PATH_MAX fix, which they _can_ check on GNU/Linux, since GNU/Linux
uses glibc.
- the get_hw_addr changes, which does not actually change any code,
but simply uses existing code in a case which would not even compile
otherwise.
- the bind change, which just makes GNU/Hurd use the same thing as
GNU/Linux.

So in the end, the first part is not trivial but can be checked on Linux
(and actually fixes a bug), and the second and third part look trivial
to me, thus the wonder.

Bug#650258: 2nd status ping on ,,dhcpHost not removed if system is removed''

2012-01-21 Thread Mike Gabriel

Hi Cajus,

this is a second status ping on the ,,dhcpHost not removed if system
is removed'' issue with GOsa² in Debian sid and squeeze.

To be able to upload a fix for this to Debian squeeze this bug has to
be fixed in Debian sid.

The Debian Edu team is really desperate for this fix to be introduced
into Debian squeeze.

If you need any help with this, please let me/us know.

Thanks!!!
Mike

Bug#53829:

2012-01-21 Thread Joshua Hudson
Herein lies the problem. I managed to move the location to
/run/mount/mtab by changing the value of the #define, but that leaves
no upgrade path from /proc/mounts due to the bizarre code in
/lib/init/mount-functions.sh. The migration should have happened at
package install time, not boot time.

See http://packages.qa.debian.org/d/dvi2ps.html it's not marked for

Is there an active maintainer for this package, or is it left for
adoption? In that case; I can create a new package, if somebody sponsor

Meaning it's a toy OS, you shouldn't expect people to spend their free
time playing with it. And yes, porter NMUs are generally allowed, with
appropriate delays.

Looks like some people regards GNU/Hurd as a toy OS. Can you sponsor an
NMU of this package?

And Julien, it's damned easy to install GNU/hurd in a VM: see

Bug#656809: help with ruby-ffi on armhf - several failing tests (#656809)

2012-01-21 Thread Antonio Terceiro
Dear armhf porters,

I need some help from you to solve a ruby-ffi FTBFS on armhf. The source
builds, but several unit tests fail, and they are all related to float
pointing numbers.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=656809

I am attaching a simple test script that reveals the problem without having to
run the full test suite. To run it:

  * get the ruby-ffi source and install build dependencies
  * run the test script from the root of the sources with something like:
$ ruby /path/to/ruby-ffi-test-armhf.rb

A second run will produce a cleaner output, since it doesn't need to
build the C code anymore.

It doesn't matter whether you use ruby 1.8 or 1.9, the same tests fail
on both.

On amd64, the test script gives me:

Expected 100, got 100
Expected 1.5, got 1.5
Expected 2.7, got 2.7

On the sid chroot in harris.debian.org, I get:

Expected 100, got 100
Expected 1.5, got 2.90211670708434e-102
Expected 2.7, got 2.90085606709136e-102

Could you please downgrade libglib2.0 (and related packages) to
2.30.2-4, ie. the version from testing and see if the
gnome-settings-daemon crashes go away?
What would also be helpful, if you could get a backtrace resp. core
dump. For that install the libglib2.0-0-dbg package and either run
gnome-settings-daemon in gdb, or set ulimit [1] accordingly.

I suspect that this crashes in g-s-d are due to the backported BE ffi
patches.

Bug#656717: libzen FTBFS on most 32-bit architectures, overload error

2012-01-21 Thread peter green

The FTBFS is caused by a rather hacky patch[1] I included in -3 to fix an FTBFS
in s390[2].

Is there a better way of doing this without rewriting the parts of the library
that use the NEED_SIZET macro to use templates? Specifically, it looks like I
would need a preprocessor conditional to check whether size_t is unsigned int or
unsigned long.

I don't know any way to do a preproccessor conditional for it directly
but I have figured out

a way to find it from within a script or makefile.

here's a makefile snippet that figures it out (should be easy to turn it
into a shell script

fragment if that is more conviniant for you).

ifneq (,$(findstring long,$(shell echo __SIZE_TYPE__ | cpp -P)))
 CFLAGS += -dSIZE_T_IS_LONG
endif

Bug#656818: gnome-subtitles: Mono 2.10 transition, rebuild required

2012-01-21 Thread Jo Shields
Package: src:gnome-subtitles
Version: 1.2-1
Severity: serious
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: mono-2.10-transition

Hi,

A Mono transition is underway. Every source package needs to be rebuilt
to compile against CLR 4.0 instead of CLR 2.0. Please upload antlr for
this change. You can check it worked if, after rebuilding,
gnome-subtitles
has a dependency on libmono-corlib4.0-cil instead of …corlib2.0-cil.

  http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianMonoGroup/Mono210Transition
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=648775

Additionally, your package contains a manual dependency on
libmono-i18n2.0-cil which must be updated to …4.0-cil. These changes
(plus a few other packaging fixes) have been made in pkg-cli-apps git,
however you appear not to have kept the git tree updated and there is no
evidence of the 1.2-1 upload in the git repository, preventing valid
team-maintained uploads.

Please either make the corrections yourself for 1.2-2, or push your
changes
to git where other team members can submit their work.

Cheers

Bug#641280: ITP: libtemplate-plugin-datetime-format-perl -- are you still working on it?

2012-01-21 Thread Florian Schlichting
Hi Julien,

back in July of last year you volunteered to work on the Perl packages
needed for FixMyStreet, and in September filed an ITP for
libtemplate-plugin-datetime-format-perl (#641280), yet as far as I can
see nothing has been uploaded to git yet. I've packaged the other
modules on the FixMyStreet list, and unless you object, I'd also work on
libtemplate-plugin-datetime-format-perl.

How far has your work on libtemplate-plugin-datetime-format-perl
progressed, and do you still plan to keep working on it until a first
release?

Yes, changing bug severity is not recommended, I know that. Is there no

So we had “with no ill-effects” when the patch was introduced, and now
we have “no info disclosure”. Will we get an update to re-enable the
patch soon? ;-)

Can you please test with the latest 1.7.1~b3-4 ?

If it still happens, then I'm totally out of ideas.

In the meanwhile, I'm downgrading this bug's severity, since it seems to
happen only with the French localization (so wicd-curses is not "totally
unusable for everyone"), and wicd can also migrate to testing (so that we also
get a chance to have more people to triage this bug).

Have a nice evening/night,
