Bug#658571: lintian: runs out of space on tmpfs mounted /tmp
package: lintian severity: normal version: 2.5.4 With the move to /run [0], /tmp now gets mounted in ram as a tmpfs by default. Being in ram of course means that there is rather limited space, and for certain packages, lintian needs a whole lot of it. For example, I'm running into problems because of this with chromium in particular. Manual usage of TMPDIR is of course an option, but it would be more ideal if lintian's default tmpdir was not so limited. This could be perhaps /var/tmp, which is on disk according to the FHS. Bug#658483: Please use the fork instead of original library.
No way, additional features from this fork get merged back once they are mature and their API is reviewed. It's not debian's job to subvert OSS projects. On 03/02/2012 13:55 Boris Pek wrote: Package: qxmpp Version: 0.3.0-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, As we can see there are no packages which use qxmpp library in Debian yet. To avoid duplication of code it would be nice to switch your package to the fork: https://github.com/0xd34df00d/qxmpp-dev I need this modified version of library for my package leechcraft. There are such main changes in this fork: * Fixed install paths — install to /usr[/local] instead of Qt installation path. * Extended Roster management API — support sending reason texts for subscription management operations. * Implemented bookmarks. * Added pubsub manager. * Extended vCards support. * Implemented XEP-0184. * Implemented XEP-0224. * Implemented XEP-0145. * Added option for skipping authentication stage when connecting to server — allows implementing In-Band Registration XEP. * Support of XHTML-IM. * Fixed build in FreeBSD. * Fixed presence verification string generation. Fork developers regularly sync their copy of sources with upstream. Also fork do not broke the API. Each program which can be compiled with original qxmpp library also can be compiled with modified library without any changes in the sources. The main problem is that upstream review patches very and very slow (during few months). And most of them are not accepted yet. But the Azoth plugin from LeechCraft can't be compiled with unmodified library. If you agree with my arguments please let me know here. I am interested in co-maintaining the package. And I could make the updated package in the nearest future. Or if you lost interest to this package you may orphan it. And I will maintain it by myself. Best regards, Boris

You must feed, house, provide jobs and goods for your residents. Due to the finite resources available in any one place, this is not a game that you can leave for long periods of time. This game is similar to the commercial simulation game with a similar name. lincity has been in Debian for over a decade and was abandoned and finally removed a year ago. I prefer the classic lincity over lincity-ng, so I'm bringing it back. I noticed that the way I wrote this sentence isn't 100% correct. tmpfs mounts may be using swap space as well, which is of course on disk. Another solution that I forgot to mention is of course sizing the tmpfs mount to be larger. Both of these solutions are fine, but I think the defaults should be good for casual users where either of those would be possibly challenging. Thanks for the reply. However, I do believe this is still a bug in the dependency specification, since if the hdf5-tools package depends on the *latest* version of the libhdf5-1.8 package, then it should explicitly do so, to prevent installation when the correct version cannot be installed because e.g. it is being held back automatically by some other package (paraview in my case). -- Forwarded message -- From: Francesco P. This is an issue already raised. My own opinion is that any upgrade should be done in a smooth way, allowing more than a version to cohexist at the same time, until all rdepends are rebuilt. After that the old one could be dropped. Sylvestre managed that differently by requiring explicit rebuilding and conflicts, for a good reason, I think (but I did not have time to understand what that reason is, and now it is anyway done, so it is quite pointless understanding why and if a better approach was available). The result is what you are experiencing: all rdepends need to be rebuilt and in sync, else you need to keep packages on hold until rebuilding completed for all of them. The dependencies specification per se is correct (and note that the packaging changed in 1.8.4 - 1.8.8) -- Francesco P. Bug#658579: cups: parallel device gets stuck at 100% CPU with Xerox Phaser 3121
Package: cups Version: 1.5.0-16 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, First of all, I would like to apologize if this is not the right package; I think it is, but I'm really not sure. Maybe something in the kernel. In the last 2-3 days, it seems every operation that tries to access my Xerox Phaser 3121 printer, which is connected through the parallel port, gets stuck and never completes; I get a process on the host that looks like this in ps axuww: lp9324 99.9 0.0 5732 1104 ?R07:57 268:48 parallel:/dev/lp0 1547 sigal Cooks 1 TonerDensity=3 Duplex=None number-up=2 number-up-layout=btlr PageSize=A4 Resolution=300dpi InputSlot=Auto EconoMode=0 noJamRecovery Altitude=LOW MediaType=OFF PowerSave=5 job-uuid=urn:uuid:d8331db0-edd9-3d65-72d5-81b8567a00e8 job-originating-host-name=localhost time-at-creation=1328334501 time-at-processing=1328335027 The only way I found to solve this is to lprm the print jobs, bring down the cups service, and sudo kill -9 the process. If I just bring down cups, the process stays up (also does not respond to SIGTERM); if I just kill the process, cups respawns it; if I just bring down cups and the process (leaving jobs in the queue), cups restarts it as soon as it is brought back up. Some of the time -- can't be sure -- I've gotten error messages printed by the printer, complaining about a timeout. Until yesterday, I was using the older, Samsung ML-1710 driver from Foomatic/gdi; I switched to Splix with the actual Xerox model, but it made no difference. Another printer, connected via USB, continues to function normally. Bug#658483: Please use the fork instead of original library.
Hi, No way, additional features from this fork get merged back once they are mature and their API is reviewed. It's not debian's job to subvert OSS projects. I know you are one of the authors of qxmpp. That explains your reaction to my proposal. But you haven't even tried to understand my arguments. Debian Policy does not allow embedded copies of libraries: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#s-embeddedfiles But leechcraft package can not be build with original qxmpp library now. I have proposed the logical solution: use the fork code in package until it is accepted in upstream. After that package could switch back to original library. There isn't any program in Debian using this library now. Your package is standalone. Currently I intend to add first program which uses this library. And I faced with few problems which could be resolved quite simply in the proposed way. If you continue insisting on your point I will have to make another package (qxmmp-leechcraft for example), because we can't wait for years until upstream merges necessary patches from the fork. Best regards, Boris

Bug#658590: please start with an initscript in S, not in initrd
Package: fake-hwclock Version: 0.1 Severity: normal Hi, currently fake-hwclock loads the hwclock state in initrd. Unfortunately not all our systems that need fake-hwlock boot using an initrd - for instance our octeon mips machines don't. The usual hwclock script runs in S, from /etc/rcS.d/S05hwclockfirst in our case. It would probably make sense and it's AFAICS sufficient to do the fake-hwclock at the same time, no need to do it in the initramfs. I have changed our init script to include the following: | # Default-Start: S | # X-Start-Before:checkroot [taken from S05hwclockfirst] and | start) |/bin/fake-hwclock load |;; | status) |echo We think it's currently `date -u`. |;; Also, as a side node, the init script probably should not use full paths, and instead should set and export PATH at the top. Bug#658483: Please use the fork instead of original library.
Why can't leechcraft be built with plain qxmpp? Qxmpp is modular by nature so any additional managers can be provided in the application. The parts of the code you really need merged back to qxmpp are modifications to existing classes. I'd be happy to review such changes. Jeremy On 04/02/2012 13:19 Boris Pek wrote: Hi, No way, additional features from this fork get merged back once they are mature and their API is reviewed.

This is an issue already raised. AFAIK, it was not raised. This is a different issue and this bug should not have been closed. Bug#658483: Please use the fork instead of original library.
Hi! While I generally agree that it's better to keep one version of a library in the repositories, and it's better be upstream version, in case of QXmpp things are a bit more complicated. First, patch accepting cycle is quite long — we in LeechCraft can't wait for 2-4 months before features get accepted into the upstream branch. We already implement most of the changes we need on LC side, thanks QXmpp modularity, but sometimes we need to tweak and patch QXmpp's core, as it was with XHTML-IM and In-Band Registration support. And we think of implementing XEPs like Extended Stanza Addressing and Message Carbons soon, and that once again requires as to patch QXmpp core. Once again, LC is a vibrant project, rapidly developing, and unfortunately it cannot be built with upstream QXmpp now (and, I guess, in the nearest future as well). Implementing support for building with both QXmpp versions is hard enough to not being an option. Second, since QXmpp is the primary (and only, for now) XMPP backend in LeechCraft, people around LeechCraft sometimes want to patch QXmpp themselves (I gave Jeremy a link to such patch some time ago), and it's better and more handy for them to do it in already-established community, environment and workflow. One may think that it actually segregates the communities, but actually it's the reverse: it unifies the communities, so in the end QXmpp benefits from code written by LC people. Third, AFAIK there are no packages depending on QXmpp in Debian right now, so one shouldn't worry about binary compatibility issues. Personally, I wish the upstream code could be replaced with the fork's one for now, since that will make things easier for everyone, from users to developers, and I actually don't see any sensible reason for not replacing it. -- Georg Rudoy LeechCraft — http://leechcraft.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#658598: RM: libvdeplug2-dev -- NBS; Replaced by libvdeplug-dev which Provides it
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Hello, I'd like you to remove libvdeplug2-dev from unstable. The libvdeplug2-dev package has recently been renamed to libvdeplug-dev in order to simplify future Build-Depends if/when the SONAME will change. Since libvdeplug-dev Provides: libvdeplug2-dev, and since libvdeplug2-dev can be safely replaced by libvdeplug-dev, there is no need to keep the 2 version in the archive. In addition, the presence of libvdeplug2-dev is preventing vde2 from migrating to testing (it generates out of date excuses for all architectures). I'll take care of notifying the maintainers of the few packages which still Build-Depend on libvdeplug2-dev instead of libvdeplug-dev for updating them (actually I'm a comaintainer of umview, which is one of them). If you have the time to spare, this game has the vegetables just waiting to be eliminated! /para /refsect1 refsect1titleNOTES/title para Before starting the game, you should know that the game uses OpenGL for hardware accelerated 2d amp; 3d graphics. This means that you must have fully OpenGL compatible graphics card in your PC. Your card also needs to be able to use 512x512 textures, and this rules out Voodoo 1, 2 and 3 (limited to 256x256 textures). /para para As for the CPU and memory requirements, I'd recommend something along the lines of Pentium II (or an AMD equivalent) and 64MB. The game works on much slower systems as well, as the game skips frames if the system can't keep up with the 60 FPS rate; this ensures that the game runs at the right speed, you just don't get very smooth animation. /para para This game features solid game play with beautiful OpenGL API driven isometric 3d graphics and nice music. It also includes a MOD player, and you can use your own MOD-type music in the game background. Just copy your XM/S3M/IT/MOD - files to the filenamemusic/filename subdirectory of emphasisI Have No Tomatoes/emphasis and the game plays them. You can press keycapF1/keycap to skip a song when ingame. There's room for 128 MODs. Btw, if you don't have any MOD music, ModArchive (ulink url=www.modarchive.comwww.modarchive.com/ulink) is a good place to download some. /para /refsect1 refsect1titleCONFIGURATION/title para You may also want to set some options, such as the screen resolution and color depth. By default, emphasisI Have No Tomatoes/emphasis starts fullscreen in 800x600 resolution, 32bpp. To fine-tune the preferences to suit your PC better, open the file filenameconfig.cfg/filename in a text editor (Notepad will do). Under Unix this file is stored in filename~/.tomatoes//filename. /para para Most likely you'll be interested in these lines: itemizedlist listitemparaoptionvideo_mode/option = 800 x 600/para/listitem listitemparaoptionvideo_mode_color_depth/option = 32/para/listitem listitemparaoptionvideo_mode_fullscreen/option = 1/para/listitem listitempara optionsound_enabled/option = 1/para/listitem /itemizedlist /para para To set the resolution, change the optionvideo_mode/option - line (some common resolutions include 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768). Most common color depths are 16 and 32, and sometimes 24. optionvideo_mode_fullscreen/option controls whether the game starts in fullscreen or in a window. When running in windowed mode, you can use any resolution you want (the 4:3 aspect ratio modes are still preferred). If you don't have a sound card (or want to turn the sounds off), set optionsound_enabled/option to 0 (zero). /para para Finally, if you want to know how many frames your system draws per second (FPS), set optionshow_fps/option to 1. Package: dragonplayer Version: 4:4.4.5-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch I discovered this issue in Squeeze. I'm unable to test in later versions at the moment. When using konqueror to browse through my collection of DVD ISOs, I tried to click on one of them and expected dragonplayer to start or at least for KDE to propose either to use dragonplayer or k3b. Instead only k3b was started. The reason for this is that /usr/share/applications/kde4/k3b.desktop list application/x-cd-image as a supported MIME type, while /usr/share/applications/kde4/dragonplayer.desktop do not. Please add the MIME type. When I start 'dragon /path/to/dvd.iso', the DVD plays just fine, so I know dragonplayer support the DVD ISOs. :) Here is a patch to implement the change: --- /usr/share/applications/kde4/dragonplayer.desktop 2010-01-20 00:22:04.0 +0100 +++ /tmp/dragonplayer.desktop 2012-02-04 15:39:22.943947297 +0100 @@ -109,5 +109,5 @@ X-DocPath=dragonplayer/index.html TryExec=dragon Exec=dragon %u -MimeType=video/ogg;video/x-theora+ogg;video/x-ogm+ogg;video/x-ms-wmv;video/x-msvideo;video/x-ms-asf;video/x-matroska;video/mpeg;video/avi;video/quicktime;video/vnd.rn-realvideo;video/x-flic;video/mp4; +MimeType=video/ogg;video/x-theora+ogg;video/x-ogm+ogg;video/x-ms-wmv;video/x-msvideo;video/x-ms-asf;video/x-matroska;video/mpeg;video/avi;video/quicktime;video/vnd.rn-realvideo;video/x-flic;video/mp4;application/x-cd-image; Categories=Qt;KDE;AudioVideo;Player; -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.4 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=nb_NO.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nb_NO.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages dragonplayer depends on: ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.4.5-1runtime components from the offici ii libc6 2.11.3-2 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libkdecore5 4:4.4.5-2+squeeze3 the KDE Platform Core Library ii libkdeui5 4:4.4.5-2+squeeze3 the KDE Platform User Interface Li ii libkio5 4:4.4.5-2+squeeze3 the Network-enabled File Managemen ii libkparts4 4:4.4.5-2+squeeze3 the Framework for the KDE Platform ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0really4.4.2-1 the core library of the Phonon mul ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.6.3-4+squeeze1 Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqtcore4 4:4.6.3-4+squeeze1 Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.6.3-4+squeeze1 Qt 4 GUI module ii libsolid4 4:4.4.5-2+squeeze3 Solid Library for KDE Platform ii libstdc++6 4.4.5-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libxine11.1.19-2 the xine video/media player librar ii libxine1-x 1.1.19-2 X desktop video output plugins for ii phonon 4:4.6.0really4.4.2-1 metapackage for the Phonon multime dragonplayer recommends no packages. dragonplayer suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
