Bug#658764: free ATI driver corrupts output on Radeon HD 6310
Hi Ben, Ben Finney wrote: On the same system, selecting Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (from the GRUB menu) results in uncorrupted display also. So the problem is restricted to Linux 3.1.0-1 on this system. Does this happen with version 3.2.4-1 from sid, too? Can you bisect? Even a few tests of versions halfway between from http://snapshot.debian.org/ can help a lot in narrowing down the cause of this particular regression. Bug#658817: gnome-panel crashes with SIGFPE when in a vertical orientation
Package: gnome-panel Version: 3.2.1-2+b1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I'd like to configure gnome-panel to run a single panel on the right side of my display. When I setup such a configuration in dconf, gnome-panel exits immediately with this error: (gnome-panel:13676): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: /tmp/buildd/glib2.0-2.30.2/./gobject/gsignal.c:2295: signal `size_request' is invalid for instance `0x1b38600' Floating point exception and $? set to 136. Ubuntu seems to have a bug report filed for this issue at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libwnck3/+bug/847464 Based on information in that bug report, I rebuilt the gnome-panel packages with the Debian patch 03_tasklist_orientation.patch removed. The problem went away. That patch seems to be in response to Debian bug #524117, which is from 2009. I attempted to reproduce the problem described in that bug with my recompiled gnome-panel, and could not. I believe this patch may no longer be needed, and would like you to consider removing it; it seems to be causing problems rather than solving them at this point. In case you believe it relevant, I am running the xmonad window manager. If needed, I can attempt to reproduce under a more normal GNOME session. I'm happy to test any configurations or patches you would like me to. Bug#658818: fails to handle cuesheets with 99 tracks
Package: cuetools Version: 1.3.1-9 Severity: normal There's an off-by-one error in cd.c which causes cueprint to wrongly reject cuesheets with 99 tracks. Its actual limit is 98 tracks, and yet as the source code notes, the Red Book audio standard permits 99 tracks per disc (and 99 indices per track). When I looked into this, I saw that: 1) not only will the same error occur with index numbers, but 2) the wrong preprocessor symbol is being expanded when checking the index number. (Can this few people really have ever dealt with Nine Inch Nails's _Broken_ EP? It's not exactly an obscure title, especially among hackers...) Please find attached a cuesheet which will enable reproduction of the problem, and a tested patch fixing it. Bug#658820: confusing and contradictory documentation and behavior
Package: noweb Version: 2.11b-7 Severity: normal man noweb says quote the first documentation chunk must contain a LaTeX \documentclass command, it must contain \usepackage{noweb} in the preamble, and finally it must also contain a LaTeX \begin{document} command. /quote So I tried this (simplified example): sample @ \documentclass{article} \usepackage{noweb} \begin{document} Hi there. t1.py= class Foo: pass @ \end{document} /sample Running this through noweb produces a tex file that can't be latexed because the first word is an undefined control sequence. Experimenting revealed that removing the first line, the one with the @, fixed the problem. It also showed that emacs noweb mode kept jumping to the top of the file every time I hit enter or tab when the first @ was missing. So the first alternative doesn't work and the second produces a file that is very difficult to edit with emacs. Note I do have ess installed, and as per another bug I'm getting emacs noweb mode from there. The second issue is that the format of the input file differs between noweb and noweave. The latter generates the boilerplate automatically (\documentclass through \begin{document} as well as the \end{document}) and also has different rules for generating output files than noweb (noweb makes file from all top level code blocks with names that contain no spaces while notangle creates it from * by default or a command-line specified name). It is unfortunate that the two commands, in the same system, place contradictory requirements on the input file. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.9 APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (995, 'oldstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages noweb depends on: ii gawk1:3.1.5.dfsg-4.1 GNU awk, a pattern scanning and pr ii iconx 9.4.3-2 Executor for Icon, a high-level pr ii libc6 2.7-18lenny7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries noweb recommends no packages. noweb suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Also, maybe check with upstream that there aren't any known issues with these flags? I see that you fixed the problem that I identified in [1] with cppflags not getting set by including them in ccflags. [1] http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/perl-maintainers/2012-January/002886.html I'd sort of missed that mail, sorry. Yes, I think this is the only way to get cppflags into the build. Putting the ldflags into lddlflags along with -shared is rather ugly, but I couldn't come up with anything better. -- Niko -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#658662: drm/i915: no signal via DisplayPort on Sandy Bridge since Linux 3.2
Hi, Peter Colberg wrote: To summarize: The external display connected via DisplayPort works fine with Linux 3.1, while, with Linux 3.2, it works with lower (non-native) resolutions and fails with the maximum (native) resolution. Please report this upstream, following instructions from [1], and let us know the bug number so we can track it. The upstream developers may ask you to bisect to find the specific patch that introduced the problem. It works like this: 0. Prerequisites: apt-get install git build-essential 1. Get a copy of the kernel source repository: git clone \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git cd linux Or if you already have a copy, update it: cd linux git fetch origin 2. Test v3.2: git checkout v3.2 cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config; # current configuration make localmodconfig; # optional: minimize configuration make deb-pkg; # optionally with -jn for parallel build dpkg -i ../name of package reboot ... test test test ... If it doesn't exhibit the problem, declare victory and we can try to figure out what Debian-specific patch (unlikely) or configuration change (more likely) caused it. Otherwise: 3. Test v3.1: git checkout v3.1 make silentoldconfig; # reuse configuration make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../name of package reboot ... test test test ... Hopefully it does not exhibit the problem. 4. Test a version halfway between: git bisect start v3.2 v3.1; # checks out a version halfway between to test make silentoldconfig; # reuse configuration make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../name of package reboot ... test test test ... git bisect bad; # if it exhibits the problem git bisect good; # if the external display works fine, after a # power-cycle and with the right resolution git bisect skip; # if some other problem makes it hard to test 5. Another version to test will be automatically checked out. So: make silentoldconfig make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../name of package reboot ... test ... git bisect good/bad/skip 6. Rinse and repeat until bored. 7. After sufficiently many iterations, git will indicate the first bad commit --- hoorah! If bored before then, you can run git bisect log to print information about the versions tested in a form that will allow someone else to pick up where you left off. At any step if the gitk package is installed, you can run git bisect visualize to watch the regression range narrowing. Bug#656886: roundcube: problems with symlinks in /var/lib/roundcube/plugins/
OoO Pendant le repas du dimanche 05 février 2012, vers 19:50, Marc Dequènes (Duck) d...@duckcorp.org disait : The output of ls -l is misleading for this file: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 janv. 22 12:37 /var/lib/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui/js/jquery-ui.min.js - ../../../../javascript/jquery-ui/jquery-ui.min.js Why misleading? Becauseitwouldappear thatittriestoaccess /var/lib/javascript/jquery-ui/jquery-ui.min.js (which does not exist) while in fact there is an intermediate symlink: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 déc. 26 21:50 /var/lib/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui - /usr/share/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui Therefore, the above symlink works. I have: Alias /roundcube /var/lib/roundcube I'm using a dedicated vhost, but was using /usr/share/roundcube. It seems i missed the change in the changelog in 0.5.1-1 « Rework how symlinks work. ». Nevertheless, after changing the directory, it does not work better. The correct directory has always been /var/lib/roundcube but we previously arranged so that /usr/share/roundcube would work too but it was getting quite complicated. I am unsure when we removed the symlinks From /usr/share/roundcube to /var/lib/roundcube. I would say this was for 0.3. I had another look at the problem. When building your package i get (using debc): lrwxrwxrwx root/root 0 2012-02-05 19:06 ./var/lib/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui - /usr/share/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui In my system, it is not a symlink, but a directory. I may have done a mistake earlier, so i moved /var/lib/roundcube/plugins/jqueryui away, before upgrading to 0.7.1-1. This file is then recreated as a directory! Looking a bit further, i can see /usr/share/roundcube/plugins should be a directory, but in my system is a symlink to /var/lib/roundcube/plugins. It really seems the migration to the new symlink layout did not work correctly on my system :-(. That's quite surprising because it is the job of dpkg to work with those symlinks. I will try to find which version had symlinks in the old way and test an upgrade. -- Vincent Bernat ☯ http://vincent.bernat.im Test input for validity and plausibility. - The Elements of Programming Style (Kernighan Plauger) pgpyrQcJ8JuWw.pgp Description: PGP signature

Or another solution would be to remove the file explicitly after dh_auto_install, but dh_auto_install could as well just do it itself, to avoid the same tedious thing for all simple packages which have a texinfo documentation. dh_auto_install is just a generic way to run make install, it's not appropriate for it to go in and try to override the installation sequence. dh_install -X could be used, In the case at stake, no, because it's a single-binary package, so everything is already installed. One thus has to pass --destdir to dh_auto_install, and then use dh_install by hand, it's a bit tedious. or you could fix the Makefile to not install it It's an automake Makefile, I don't really want to patch that :) (why should an arbitrary make install overwrite /usr/share/info/dir.gz?), It doesn't overwrites it, it updates it. make install is originally intended to install in the real place ;) or possibly fix texinfo to not create it when building documentation. That could be an option. Cc-ing automake: in the case DESTDIR is not empty, automake should perhaps prevent the dir.gz update. FYI in latest versions of automake, if you set AM_UPDATE_INFO_DIR=no in the environment it will suppress creating the dir file. If debhelper just set that it would solve the problem. -- Eric Dorland e...@kuroneko.ca ICQ: #61138586, Jabber: ho...@jabber.com signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#658688: GNOME 3 integration: Use GIO instead of deprecated GnomeVFS

While looking at this, I also found that the package has a build dependency on libgnomeui-dev which is no longer useful. Also the --enable-gnomeui configure is gone. Bug#639910: SBT Debian packaging suspended
Hi, since I've been asked: I'm currently writing my bachelor thesis and won't continue working on SBT Debian packaging until after easter holidays. However in general I'd strongly suggest that packaging of SBT for a distribution is only continued, if upstream can be convinced to support a build path without a previous SBT binary, e.g.: 1. build a minimal SBT without SBT 2. build the full SBT with the minimal SBT from 1. I spent a full week to compile SBT without SBT (and learning more about Scala and SBT). Any third party scripts to bootstrap SBT could break at any time and require a lot of work to fix, if upstream does not support this build strategy. Initial attempt to support build without sbt: https://github.com/harrah/xsbt/pull/308 Best regards, Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Upstream fixed the SGML source file, but I get the following failure when building Courier from source: ../docbook/sgml2man rfc822.sgml rfc822.3 warning: failed to load external entity /usr/share/sgml/docbook/xsl-stylesheets/manpages/docbook.xsl cannot parse /usr/share/sgml/docbook/xsl-stylesheets/manpages/docbook.xsl ../docbook/sgml2man: 27: cannot open rfc822.3.tmpdir/*: No such file ../docbook/sgml2man: 27: cannot open rfc822.3.tmpdir/*: No such file According to the changelog, this bug was fixed in an upload to experimental with version 0.65.2-1. I verified that building in current testing works (though I did not check further, especially I did not search for non fatal build errors etc.). Also ./debian/courier-maildrop/usr/share/man/man7/maildropex.7.gz looks fine there as well. If you intended to keep this bug open for another reason please reopen. Bug#658185: freebsd-9: freebsd-9 kernel + smartmontools: error sending CAMIOCOMMAND ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device
On Thu, Feb 02, 2012 at 09:41:46PM +, Robert Millan wrote: El 2 de febrer de 2012 18:54, Aurelien Jarno aurel...@aurel32.net ha escrit: We need the rebuild for ABI transition anyway, so it's no harm to queue it right away. Does it mean that after a rebuild, it won't work anymore with a kernel 8.x? Probably. After several hours I've given up trying to make userland compatible with both kernels. Specifically with CAM, the required patch would be very intrusive (a struct is modified carelessly, which would require duplicating the struct, all structs that include it, and versioning in all the functions that rely on any of that). If someone volunteers feel free to supply a patch, but IMHO with manpower being so scarce this is a dead end. The problem there is that given that all 9.x packages have been already pushed to the archive with ABI changes and so on, we *must* switch the default kernel for wheezy to 9.x. I don't say it's a bad decision, but I would have prefer to have some discussion about, it including the possible consequences of such a choice, instead of getting to the point of not having any other choice. Now we have no choice than making a real plan for switching to 9.x kernel: - We have to make sure users are using wheezy/sid with a 9.x kernel. - We have to provide an upgrade path for users, including the best moment to switch from one kernel to another in the release notes. - The build daemons are going to stay with the 8.1 kernel up to the release of wheezy. Will it work? Sometimes after they are going to switch to a 9.x kernel, but they should still be able to build squeeze packages. Will it work? Bug#658696: dpkg-dev: Please document the dependencies field in deb-shlibs(5)
Package: dpkg-dev Version: 1.16.1.2 Severity: minor Hi, I read deb-shlibs(5) today and I felt it was rather vague on the dependencies field. Fortunately, Policy Manual §8.6.3 has the following: dependencies has the same syntax as a dependency field in a binary package control file. It should give details of which packages are required to satisfy a binary built against the version of the library contained in the package. See Syntax of relationship fields, Section 7.1 for details. The example in deb-shlibs(5) is not enough to deduce this[1]. The manpage does say See the Debian Policy Manual for (further) details. However, I feel deb-shlibs(5) should explicitly tell me that dependencies has the same syntax as the Depends field[2]. ~Niels [1] Mind you, I think it is better to keep the example simple. [2] I don't mind being sent to the Policy for reading up on the syntax of a dependency field. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#657940: perl: upgrade problem if defoma-app is called from a maintainer-script in the middle of the perl upgrade

I just tried it and added perl-modules: Breaks: defoma ( 0.11.12) and rebuilt this as 5.14.2-7.1 and tested it - this is already sufficient to get a working upgrade path: Thanks for the testing. While I'm glad it works for your case, and indeed probably for the majority of cases, I'm afraid it isn't quite sufficient. Therefore, it looks like both perl-base and perl-modules need to Conflict with defoma ( 0.11.12). I don't think a Breaks entry is enough to prevent the above. Bug#658341: Conclusion: upload multi-arch enabled dpkg (in time for wheezy)
On Thu, 02 Feb 2012 08:16:34 -0700, Bdale Garbee bd...@gag.com wrote: I therefore call for an immediate vote on the following ballot. With votes from 7 of 8 committee members, all ranking A as their first preference, the outcome of this ballot is no longer in doubt, and we have met the required 3:1 majority. The decision of the committee is: A. While recognizing the substantial benefits of thorough code review, the Technical Committee believes the goal of multiarch support in the Debian wheezy release is sufficiently important as to warrant accepting the current draft implementation into the archive, even if code review by the primary dpkg C maintainer cannot be completed in time. However, as much review as possible is strongly desired. The Technical Committee therefore overrides the decision of the dpkg maintainer to require complete code review before upload of the multiarch implementation in dpkg to the Debian archive and sets the following upload dates: February 6th: upload to experimental for general testing February 20th: upload to unstable For each of those deadlines, if no implementation of dpkg with multiarch support has been uploaded to the archive for that distribution by that date, Raphaël Hertzog is empowered by the Technical Committee to upload a version of dpkg with multiarch support to that distribution. The upload may be done on or after that date, when, in his judgement, the dpkg implementation meets the quality standards expected for a Debian core package in those archive distributions. The Technical Committee strongly encourages anyone with the required knowledge to review the multiarch implementation proposed for upload and provide the results of that review to the debian-dpkg list as soon as possible so that the code can receive as much review as possible and the results of that review can be incorporated into the code by those dates. Similarly, the Technical Committee encourages as broad testing and review of the experimental implementation as possible so that as many bugs as possible can be resolved prior to uploading it to unstable. Thank you again to Russ Allbery for help with the resolution text, and to my fellow committee members for prompt attention to this matter. Bdale pgpvmQvYR4hQW.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#648993: ecl: FTBFS on hurd-i386
Hi, Alle mercoledì 16 novembre 2011, Svante Signell ha scritto: The attached patch fixes the FTBFS problems of ecl on GNU/Hurd. When native threads are enabled the ./ecl_min compile command hangs. Preface: libgc, used by ecl, makes use of the SIGUSR1 SIGUSR2 signals (handling them on its own) to respectively suspend and threads when the main thread needs to stop the world and garbage collect or so. In ecl, src/c/unixint.d, there is the following function: | static void | install_process_interrupt_handler() | { | #ifdef SIGRTMIN | # define DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL SIGRTMIN + 2 | #else | # define DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL SIGUSR1 | #endif | #if defined(ECL_THREADS) !defined(ECL_MS_WINDOWS_HOST) | if (ecl_get_option(ECL_OPT_TRAP_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL)) { | int signal = ecl_get_option(ECL_OPT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL); | if (signal == 0) { | signal = DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL; | ecl_set_option(ECL_OPT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL, |signal); | } | mysignal(signal, non_evil_signal_handler); | #ifdef HAVE_SIGROCMASK | sigdelset(cl_core.default_sigmask, signal); | pthread_sigmask(SIG_SETMASK, cl_core.default_sigmask, NULL); | #endif | } | #endif | } given on Hurd we don't have realtime signals yet, SIGRTMIN (and SIGRTMAX) is not defined, which makes SIGUSR1 the signal being used for the inter-thread communication, overriding the SIGUSR1 handler set by libgc. The solution (a bit of hack, actually) I have is use a different signal for DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL (I chose SIGINFO, generally not used and not POSIX); this allowed me to compile ecl correctly. I attached the patch for it; note I don't think it should be forwarded upstream, as it is not clean and kind of working around the lack of realtime signals in Hurd. -- Pino Toscano --- a/src/c/unixint.d +++ b/src/c/unixint.d @@ -1073,6 +1073,8 @@ { #ifdef SIGRTMIN # define DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL SIGRTMIN + 2 +#elif defined(__GNU__) +# define DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL SIGINFO #else # define DEFAULT_THREAD_INTERRUPT_SIGNAL SIGUSR1 #endif signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#658700: libpam-usb: Insufficient entropy in pad files
Package: libpam-usb Version: 0.5.0-1+tms1 Severity: normal Tags: security, patch When creating pad files of random data, the randomness is quite small. For an attacker with a local account, the time of login and process id are quite easy to guess. (Using the deterministic rand() generator to increase the length to 1024 bytes doesn't generate any extra randomness, so that's a red herring). Being generous, there's probably 8-12 bits of entropy, from the point of view of a local adversary. This patch increases the entropy bits sizeof(int)*CHAR_BIT bits (i.e. 32 bits where int is 32 bits), although it does nothing to deal with the false impression of security given by creating a 8192-bit file. Description: Increase entropy of generated pad files Seeding the random number generator from PID and current time provides very little entropy, as these can be guessed quite closely by an attacker, so use the kernel's random number generator instead. But it doesn't send an email. If you have an array with double-redundancy and one disk fails entirely while another returns dodgey data then you lose, and obviously anyone who creates a doubly-redundant array wants protection against that sort of thing. Shouldn't debhelper be able to drop dir? For now, the solution we have found is to tell dh_auto_install to install in debian/tmp, and create a debian/install which contains all the desired directories, which is tedious. Bug#658707: samba: NTLM CRAP authentication for workstation fails with NT_STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT
Package: samba Version: 2:3.6.3-1 Severity: important Hello, I used Samba 3.4.8 on Lenny for Wi-Fi authentification with Freeradius+EAP/MSCHAPv2+ntlm_auth. I upgraded to Squeeze friday. Firstly, I need to use samba from Sid because #612049 ; secondly, I have a bug/regression : when a workstation (XP or Seven) try to authenticate, I have this error: [2012/02/05 11:16:24.418248, 2] auth/check_samsec.c:283(sam_account_ok) sam_account_ok: Wksta trust account hostname$ denied by server [2012/02/05 11:16:24.418323, 2] winbindd/winbindd_pam.c:1883(winbindd_dual_pam_auth_crap) NTLM CRAP authentication for user [DOMAINE]\[HOSTNAME$] returned NT_STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT (PAM: 9) Then all workstations fail to authenticate and have Wi-Fi :-( For your information, I look in Samba 3 source code, and I find this condition in auth/check_samsec.c file: if (acct_ctrl ACB_WSTRUST) { if (!(user_info-logon_parameters MSV1_0_ALLOW_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT)) { DEBUG(2,(sam_account_ok: Wksta trust account %s denied by server\n, pdb_get_username(sampass))); return NT_STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT; } } I don't think workstations stop to send MSV1_0_ALLOW_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT flag, then the bug is probably with handling logon_parameters. Samba bug 8548[*] is interessant but the fix is already in 3.6.3 ! Another information, I try a crapy hack: disable this condition in source code and rebuild samba package: it works well. Bug#658708: ikiwiki: proposal for actiontabs theme for formatting of pre and code elements
Package: ikiwiki Version: 3.20120202 Severity: wishlist Hi, Joey. I happen to like the way that github formats their code in both code and pre elements and I came up with a dirty way of copying what they do (staring at their code, modifying it a little bit etc.) so that it blends moderately well with the actiontabs theme. My local.css file is attached and I would love it if you included that in a future release. It surely can be reduced, but my CSS-fu is rusty at the moment, but, as you, I also belive in incremental, continuous software development.
