Bug#658994: mirror submission for mirror.digitalone.com

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

On Tuesday 21 February 2012 08:17:13 Sergei Arsentiev wrote:

According to indices/files, you are also mirroring armhf and s390x. You are
probably not including them on the architectures exclude list in ftpsync's
configuration file.

> We can mirror from http://mirror.cogentco.com/pub/linux/debian/

I'm afraid that cogentco.com's mirror is not part of the official Debian
mirrors network, and that it doesn't seem to be updated very often.

Could you please mirror from one listed at the following page?
http://www.debian.org/mirror/list

I apparently missed that you are only updating once a day. At the moment the
archive is updated four times a day but it may vary in the future. It will
most likely increase.
Could you please update at least four times a day?

While at it, is there a role email address that could be used as future
contact point? From experience, role addresses work better than personal
addresses, including on situations like when the person is on vacation.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Hi Anibal,

In , a user
has reported that umich_ldap is not working with version 0.25-1 of
libnfsidmap in Ubuntu. I've confirmed that this is due to a bug present
upstream in libnfsidmap 0.25: a wrong check for ENABLE_LDAP in umich_ldap.c
causes the module to be linked as an empty module.

The attached patch which corrects the issue has been uploaded to Ubuntu.
Please consider applying it to the Debian package and forwarding it
upstream.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "dependencies that are missing".
I thought I explained that.  These:

1)     fp-units-gnome1 [Not Installed]

What happens when you try to install one of these packages directly?
eg., 'apt-get install fp-units-gnome1'?

2)     fp-units-gtk [Not Installed]
3)     fpc [Not Installed]
4)     libcairo2-dev [Not Installed]
5)     libgtk2.0-dev [Not Installed]
6)     libpango1.0-dev [Not Installed]

If I do that, I get a complaint that one of the other listed package "is
not going to be installed". I tried specifying all of them on one command
line and I got a complaint that libpixman-1.dev was not going to be
installed. Adding that made the complaints go circular.

Good catch. SuSE mount /dev/pts in very early boot (initramfs) therefore do
not require the hack. We had to patch Debian's startpar for this though to get
away from the shell based init.d script execution concurrency which existed at
the time.

Bug#661214: mutter: garbled, slow rendering on browser, image viewers while scrolling

2012-02-24 Thread Prakash J
Package: mutter
Version: 3.2.2-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I have a Nvidia 7300GT Graphics card based system and uses latest nvidia
proprietary drivers. After upgrading to Gnome3(gnome-shell), image rendering
and browsing has become difficult due to frequent garbled and slow rendering.
the problem is faced with image viewing applications, iceweasel
browser(especially).
Here is a Screenshot:
http://upl0ad.org/images/iceweasel.png
I have recorded what is happening when I scroll with My usb mouse through web
page. Here is the link(Zip format 4MB file):
http://www.mediafire.com/?liie7lj3bo6d4rw
More info:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=72358
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2501366

* What led up to the situation?
Using a Debian Testing+Sid system. upgraded to Gnome3 3.0 and started facing
this issue where, while slowly scrolling with mouse, webpages and images looks
garbled, freezed. web page returns to normal, if I launch any application or
scroll a little up or down. upgraded to Gnome-3.2 from Sid along with related
packages still facing the problem.
Note that, in Gnome "Classic"(fallback) Session, either with metacity or compiz
window manager, This bug is not found. however, if I try "mutter --replace" on
fallback session, bug reoccurs(in fallback session).
I tried "gnome-shell --replace" from a terminal and the output shows error
related to "clutter". Please see the debug output here:
http://paste.debian.net/152699/

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I rebuilt mutter-3.2.1 from Ubuntu for Debian and tried it. but it did not
resolved. faced the same garbling and slow page rendering.
Then, I reinstalled Debian libmutter0 and updated Nvidia drivers(295.20-1) from
Debian Experimental Repository. This also did not work.
As a Last resort, I tried nouveau driver. with nouveau driver, Gnome-3.2 shell
is working fine.
* What was the outcome of this action?
with nouveau driver, Gnome-shell works fine. all other options failed. the
issueis with libmutter0/gnome-shell interacting with nvidia proprietary drivers.

Please ask for any more info needed,
Regards,
Prakash

Bug#633297: funguloids: FTBFS everywhere: error: reference to 'map' is ambiguous

2012-02-24 Thread Paul Wise
The FTBFS bug and the other RC bugs have been open for a long time.
There is no point in fixing the FTBFS bug without fixing the crashes
that prevent the game from working at all. The package is not in testing
or stable anyway so it can basically be considered a new package.

To fix the crashes you need to modify the data and for that you need to
run mpak.py or maybe some of the C code from the game can be used.

mpak.py needs to be re-implemented or re-licensed because the current
implementation as distributed by Arch does not have any license attached
to it, so it is not distributable by Debian and Arch folks are violating
copyright law.

Ideally though, upstream needs to be revived and the mpak stuff ripped
out and replaced with either filesystem accesses or some standard pack
format like zip/tar. I've been trying to do that for a while but
upstream hasn't responded.

Since upstream is not responding I am not sure how to deal with the
situation. Either mpak.py has to be run at orig.tar.gz creation time or
a second tarball needs to be added with the pre-fixed data.

Alternatively the project could be completely forked, but that does not
seem to be a good way to do things to me.

I tried to reproduce this with git 1.7.9.2 and libsvn1 1.6.17dfsg-3.
At first, I got a different error[*] ("Unable to determine upstream

Unsetting "[log] abbrevcommit" in ~/.gitconfig made the error go

Unfortunately after that, "git svn dcommit" works fine.

I am going to contact upstream about incorporating this change since it
is probably too much to carry this as a Debian-only patch. If you could
rebase against upstream commit 87898f6012, that would help for both this
and the cast graph patch in #660380. Please let me know.

M17n Thai input engine always loses the last cluster when input method is
switched immediately without space character in between.

Steps to reproduce:
- Add "Thai - tis820" input method.
- Open gedit.
- Input some Thai characters without space.
- Switch input method with Ctrl+Space.

The last cluster will always be lost. This is unexpected for Thai users.

Thank you, I did not pay attention that the Imports field in the packages
DESCRIPTION equates to a Depends requirement in Debian.

For raising the packages from Suggests to Recommends, I am worried that it
would pull a lot of packages through r-cran-rgl's dependance on mesa.

How will you do in your cran2deb project? Raise all DESCRIPTION Suggests
to debian/control Recommends ?

Have a nice week-end,

Bug#661188: aptitude purge recursively REMOVES BUT DOES NOT PURGE the unneeded dependencies of

2012-02-24 Thread Georgiy Treyvus
Firstly sorry if it was too long. The relevant parts were:

root@PANTHER:/home/georgiy# # NOTICE HERE HOW python-newt IS REMOVED BUT
NOT PURGED
root@PANTHER:/home/georgiy# aptitude purge byobu
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  byobu{p} python-newt{u}
...
root@PANTHER:/home/georgiy# # NOW NOTICE HOW PASSING --purge TO purge HAS
THE CORRECT BEHAVIOR OF PURGING AS WELL AS REMOVING python-newt
root@PANTHER:/home/georgiy# aptitude purge --purge byobu
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  byobu{p} python-newt{pu}
...

Question: To be clear when if I tweak Aptitude::Purge-Unused to true it
effects only "aptitude purge " and not "aptitude package"
correct?

Also while you say that the current behavior is a safeguard and I do agree
partially the current behavior will also confuse new users. At some point
in time much like me they're reading the documentation, they learn to use
remove in case they wish to reinstall the package and keep current
configuration, they learn to use purge if they want it gone period or if
they want a fresh start for whatever reason.

Say they go "aptitude purge " wanting to then install with a fresh
start. The messed up conf file belonging to some dependency isn't removed.
After purging they install again, it's not how they remembered it to be at
first, confusion ensues...

The way the documentation is worded users will understand the consequences
of purge. They think remove means keep configuration just in case and purge
means clean it I want a fresh start. Yet aptitude behaves differently then
described. Many simply may not figure out what's happening in such a
situation.

With that said while I understand the safety rationale for the current
behavior I still feel it causes more harm then good. Speaking of keeping
aptitude safe for new users here is an interesting issue to look into that
has caused many a n00b grief http://tanguy.ortolo.eu/blog/article8/

TL;DR -- this "simple workaround" is actually a safety measure to
prevent accidental data loss.

Purging packages removes files that contain potentially useful
data--logs, conffiles, etc.. Unless the user explicitly asks for a
package to be purged then it will only be removed. This is intended
to protect user data from being accidentally destroyed.

On the command-line "aptitude purge byobu" the only explicitly
requested package is byobu, so that is the only one purged.

Note that apt-get behaives similarly, where "apt-get remove foo" does
not even remove unused packages and "apt-get autoremove" also requires
"--purge".

If you *always* desire unused packages to be purged:

-- /etc/apt/apt.conf
Aptitude::Purge-Unused "true";
--

and this will be the default. *User beware*.

In your example, perhaps I have customized the configuration of the
auto-installed package python-newt and wish to continue using it in
the future. If Purge-Unused was the default then when byobu is
purged so too is python-newt, and along with it the customizations
performed to it's configuration (not too mention log data).

A savy user will pick up on this and cancel the operation, mark
python-newt as manually installed, and redo--however, aptitude must be
relatively safe for non-savy users as well.

Bug#661211: librrd4 huge dependency bloat (20+ MB)

2012-02-24 Thread Jakob Bohm
Package: librrd4
Version: 1.3.3-1
Severity: normal

The librrd4 package seems (from the outside) to consist of two very
different parts:

1. A small efficient library for storing collected time series
data. This is used by important system components such as
sensord and is thus likely to be installed on small headless
systems.

2. A larger GUI for inspecting such data in a way preferred by the
upstream of rrdtool. Most indirect librrd users don't need this
part at all.

Unfortunately, the two parts are currently packaged together with
the result that simply installing sensord to get hardware
monitoring events (such as CPU temperature) logged to the system
logs forces the installation of slightly more than 20MB of GUI
dependencies even on a completely headless semi-embedded system.
These dependencies (direct and indirect) include such large items
as the Cairo 2D library, the Pango East-Asian font library and the
Defoma font management system, none of which serve any purpose
when just logging the system health on a slow embedded system.

I suggest splitting the librrd shared library package into two
library packages: librrdN for the basic data storage code needed
by system software such as sensord, and librrd-guiN for the
additional GUI functions needed mostly by closely related packages
such as some other packages built from the rrdtool source package.

As for the librrd bindings for languages such as perl, python, lua
etc. those may or may not benefit from a similar packaging split,
depending on their reverse dependencies in Debian as a whole.

Dear Maintainer,

I have no sound with adobe flash. This makes me sad because I had sound a week
ago. I also happen to not have sound with html5 youtube's beta.

   * What led up to the situation? Received updates from wheezy within the
last week was when sound stopped working.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)? Uninstalled it and installed gnash
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Sound plays, not as much flash support though (pandora doesn't work, some
flash videos dont play, etc)
   * What outcome did you expect instead? To not lose sound? To see gnash,
lightspark, or html5 working better? I was glad to see sound *finally* work in
64bit adobe flash last year, but now I'm back to gnash. Would flashplugin-
nonfree-extrasound help if there was a 64bit arch for it?

* URL : https://github.com/edmonds/mtbl
* License : ISC, BSD-3-Clause, Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: C
Description : immutable sorted string table library

mtbl is a C library implementation of the Sorted String Table (SSTable)
data structure, based on the SSTable implementation in the open source
Google LevelDB library. An SSTable is a file containing an immutable
mapping of keys to values. Keys are stored in sorted order, with an
index at the end of the file allowing keys to be located quickly.
 .
mtbl is not a database library. It does not provide an updateable
key-value data store, but rather exposes primitives for creating,
searching and merging SSTable files. Unlike databases which use
the SSTable data structure internally as part of their data store,
management of SSTable files -- creation, merging, deletion, combining
of search results from multiple SSTables -- is left to the discretion
 of the mtbl library user.

Bug#598428: broken release file for one source completely breaks updates

2012-02-24 Thread Jakob Bohm
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.6.3-3.2+squeeze1
Severity: important

Just reporting that this bug is still present in 0.6.3-3.2+squeeze1

P.S.

Supplemental comment on why I agree with the original reporter
that this is an Important class bug (besides the formal
justification that it can break the whole system).

The usage scenario most likely to trigger this bug is having an
out of date site local mirror of one of the time-sensitive
archives (security, volatile or backports) and listing that
before its upstream in sources.list (so package files in the
local mirror can get downloaded without incurring bandwidth
costs on the outside line, while not missing more recent
updates not yet in the local mirror, I am aware that this might
only work on days when the local mirror is up to date, but it
still saves on total bandwidth costs).

In that scenario, the abortive behavior causes aptitude to
sometimes think large parts of Debian don't exist, resulting
in meaningless upgrade/downgrade/removal suggestions, such as
wanting to upgrade all packages to their backports variants
when this bug prevents download of the non-expired package
files of the main Debian archive.

OK, there was a small cleanup with
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702681 but a deeper
refactor came with https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702251
and that new DecommitArenasFromAvailableList function looks more sane
than DecommitFreePages did, but there's still no attempt to check
errno in DecommitMemory or figure out why madvise fails, which is
somewhat inconsistent with the:
while (madvise(address, bytes, MADV_DONTNEED) == -1 && errno == EAGAIN) { }
pattern used in yarr, but whatever. 702251 appeared to be fixed in
the aurora branch, so I installed 12.0~a2+20120217042010-1 to see if I
could reproduce the issue, and unfortunately I still could. On the
trunk, the jsgcchunk stuff got generalized with
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=720439 and DecommitMemory
was effectively renamed to MarkPagesUnused but is otherwise the same
as it was. So it doesn't appear like this problem is scheduled to go
away anytime soon. I wish I could get gdb to pick up on the debugging
information for libmozjs, but despite having the -dbg package
installed I just can't seem to get it to do so. (I'd welcome any tips
there.)

Bug#633297: funguloids: FTBFS everywhere: error: reference to 'map' is ambiguous

2012-02-24 Thread peter green

Back in august pabs tagged this bug as pending,

Looking at the SVN (which took a while to find since the PTS still
points at the git repo) it seems he did commit it to the repo but soon
afterwards put a notice in the changelog saying.

* DO NOT UPLOAD, needs to reimplement the mpak.py from archlinux
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/fu/funguloids/PKGBUILD

Can anyone explain why mpak.py needs to be reimplemented, why there
doesn't seem to be a bugreport about the issue (I searched all the
packages open bug reports for mpak.py and found nothing) and why it
justifies leaving a FTBFS bug unfixed for so long? Following the link to
arch didn't seem to reveal anything to my untrained eye.

Yes, I can reproduce it. This is [1], which has a patch that needs
finishing touches:

Boy oh boy am I late to the party!

I do agree that this is a good feature to have. I've been sold on the Auth PAM

It seems that Cyril also agrees that this is a good feature to have.

However, I do not feel comfortable putting it in anything other than
nginx-extras. I have included in there. Unless I see some very good and
compelling reason to include it in -light or -full, it'll stay there only.

Well, I got a new flat-screen and hook it up, and it seems to work with
both cards in the machine.

Here are the particulars:

So far nothing has shown up regarding the earlier fix I did to get the

I'll keep looking.

Bug#661207: alsa-utils: Flash video sound no longer controlled by PulseAudio after upgrade to alsa-utils 1.0.25-1

2012-02-24 Thread jimmy the saint
Package: alsa-utils
Version: 1.0.25-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Upgrade to version 1.0.25-1
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I attempted to play sound through HDMI. All sound goes through HDMI,
except for Flash Video sound.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
I noted that Flash video sound continued to play through my laptop
speakers, even though ALL other sound (system sounds, movie sounds etc.) played
correctly through HDMI. Further, upon playing Flash video, the "Sound
Settings" dialog which serves as the front end for Pulse Audio, showed that no
applications were currently playing sound. Adjusting system volume has no
effect on flash video volume. Selecting which "hardware" to play sound through
also has no effect with Flash video. Even selecting "no hardware" which
disables all system sound, has no effect, as flash continues to play.

It is as if flash bypasses Pulse Audio completely since this update to alsa-
utils.

This behavior was not present prior to the update.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Flash video should be controlled by pulse audio, as it was prior to the
update.

This reads like you ask if "main | non-free" should be allowed. In my
opinion, the question should rather be if it must be "main | non-free"
or if both, "main | non-free" and "non-free | main", should be allowed
and how a possible mechanism to let users choose between "always prefer
free packages" and "follow the maintainer's recommendation, even it
a non-free package is preferred" could look like. There is already
a way to express "never install non-free packages", i.e., vi
sources.list.

A bug that occurred because a Ubuntu maintainer assumed that "main
| universe" would not be not allowed (the wording in their policy
substitute was not clear back then) can be found at:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704377

The question if "main | non-free" should be allowed is very similar to
the Ubuntu "main | universe" problem, except that the latter missed the
ideological part.

In <87wrshvqh4@windlord.stanford.edu> you wrote that you filed a bug
about this second problem, mentioning the bug's number in this bug could
be useful.

http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-main shows the
according part of the policy with above patch applied. So one part of
this bug is fixed in policy and for the other one, there is an other bug
(additional to the already merged one)? If this is true, this bug can
be closed or merged.

I went a slightly different way, using in order to add
the (localized) date at build time in the HTML too (it's already written
on the front page of the PDF). I'd love to write it the same way (in
plain text, not in numbers) in the HTML than in the PDF, but haven't
find yet how all this work ;-). I've removed the
$DEBIAN_EDU_DOC_BUILDDATE from the wiki, since it's mainly a PITA for
translations: the string was marked fuzzy every day…

The attached patch will allow to run “make update-copyright-dbk” to
produce the appropriate copyright.xml files, that can be amended (and
ultimately committed to the repository), and of course to use them at
build time (I only updated the needed targets to make it work for the
real build).

I put the built files (HTML and PDF) on my home server [0] (crappy
bandwidth alert) to offer a quick view of the result. For some files,
the result is quite fine [1], but when the holders list is huge [2], I
wouldn't use the same words…

Thus, not applying the patch but offer it publicly for discussions.

Please note that other DocBook tags (author, othercredit, etc.) could
also be used.

I just checked out the latest source from git and used the supplied debian
directory to build the package with debuild on my wheezy/amd64 machine,
the build finished without any problems and the emulator seems to run fine.

So, I guess the problem has been fixed if it has ever been a problem with p-uae
itself.

As for the included debian directory, the upstream source should probably be
stripped from it since the debhelper version used is deprecated anyway
(uses the old debian/rules file) and the old source format. Also, usually
the upstream source shouldn't include the debian stuff but this should be
taken care of by the Debian maintainer(s) of the package.

I recommend creating an orig tarball from the git repository, stripped from
the debian directory (and maybe other stuff which is not compliant with
the dfsg), then starting the debianization from scratch using
the current debhelper version and source format. We still can reuse some
of the files provided in the upstream debian directory however.

Adrian

Dear Maintainer,

My Debian Wheezy system is configured to use the debian-stable repository
from jenkins-ci.org to download the latest stable Jenkins release. Today
I performed my regular weekly update with aptitude and was surprised to
receive a new package named jenkins, along with a package named
jenkins-common.

While installing the new packages from apttiude, a message was reported
"chown jenkins:jenkins invalid group" or something similar to that.

The message does not seem to have harmed the installation of Jenkins.

The machine had already been running a Jenkins version as delivered
by jenkins-ci.org, so this issue may be related to the transition
from a package provided by jenkins-ci.org to a package provided within
Debian itself.

Bug#656903: RFP: desurium -- Desura is a gaming client that allows a user to one click download and install games and game modification.

2012-02-24 Thread John Paul Adrian Glaubitz
Hi,

I just had a look at the upstream source and I think getting Desurium into
Debian isn't that trivial.

The problem is that Desurium is built with a lot of third party applications
and libraries
in tree. It includes boost, wxWidgets, curl among others and expects them to
reside
in src/third_party in the source tree in order to build properly.

However, since most of these packages are already part of Debian, the build
script
of Desurium will have to be patched in order to use the existing versions in
Debian.
It is not desirable to have redundant packages in Debian.

Okay, I've fixed all that, and started using the new DEP5 URL from
policy, and bumped standards-version:

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tack/tack_1.07-1~mentors3.dsc

tack (1.07-1~mentors3) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Adopt package.
Closes: #660140 (ITP for this package).
  * Switch to dpkg-source 3.0 (quilt) format.
  * Fix "hyphen-used-as-minus-sign" warning from lintian.
  * Re-add debian/watch file (was dropped in 1.06-3).
+ Enable uupdate.
  * Enable build warnings.
  * Add Vcs-Browser: and Vcs-Git: fields to debian/control.
  * Install a symlink CHANGES.gz -> changelog.gz in the doc directory.
  * Update debian/copyright to final DEP5 format.
  * Use dh-autoreconf to regenerate the configure script during build
+ Build-depends on dh-autoreconf and autoconf-dickey.
+ This also takes care of pulling up-to-date config.guess and config.sub
  scripts in from autotools-dev.
+ Drop build-depends on autotools-dev (subsumed by dh-autoreconf).
  * Add support for dpkg-buildflags(1) by bumping debhelper compatibility
level (and build-depends) to 9.
+ Drop the LDFLAGS="-Wl,-z,defs,-ltic from the call to
dh_auto_configure, so that configure will pick up the LDFLAGS from
  dpkg-buildflags(1).
+ Replace it with:
  - LIBS="-ltic" as an argument to dh_auto_configure
  - DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND for the rest.
  * Update package to Standards-Version: 3.9.3.
  * Thanks to Jakub Wilk for his thorough review.

Re-reading the documentation in firewall.conf, I now understand what the
source of my confusion is. the tilde symbol is used as a SUFFIX on the left
hand side of the arrow, indicating "what is before me is a IP address", and
it is used as a PREFIX in the right hand side of the arrow, indicating
"what is after me is a port number." in both cases, it is used to separate
an IP from a port. This is certainly confusing behavior, as anyone reading
it left-to-right or right-to-left is bound to be confused.

You should have called configure with --libdir so that the
rpath got set up correctly.

But we're still affected by #632281.

Bug#661200: r-cran-vegan should Depends: r-cran-lattice

Bug#632281: elfutils isn't finding its plugins

2012-02-24 Thread Kurt Roeckx
On Fri, Jul 01, 2011 at 07:44:01PM +0200, Kurt Roeckx wrote:

So the elfutils code does:
#define ORIGINDIR "$ORIGIN/../$LIB/" LIBEBL_SUBDIR "/"
strcpy (stpcpy (stpcpy (dsoname, ORIGINDIR "libebl_"),
machines[cnt].dsoname),
".so");

Which gives you something like:
$ORIGIN/../$LIB/elfutils/libebl_x86_64.so

Which then gets translated to:
/usr/bin/../x86_64-linux-gnu/elfutils/libebl_x86_64.so

I assume the non-multiarch code generated:
/usr/bin/../lib/elfutils/libebl_x86_64.so

And I was expecting the new code to generate:
/usr/bin/../lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/elfutils/libebl_x86_64.so

(The "/lib" part is missing.)

I've uploaded a new elfutils that moves the files to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/elfutils/, but it still can't
find them. Could you change the code include the lib part?

Bug#661199: ristretto: "Normal Size" zoom doesn't seem to provide perfect 1:1 pixel mapping

2012-02-24 Thread aquilus
Package: ristretto
Version: 0.3.2-1
Severity: normal

Selecting "Normal Size" zoom gives a noticably blurred/rescaled image, where I
would expect it to instead provide a perfect 1:1 pixel mapping between the
image and the display. This is especially evident on PNG screenshots, where
text is slightly blurred even though the original screenshot is perfect.

I can reproduce it using ikiwiki from Debian Squeeze/stable and Sid/unstable

Hello,

Thanks for your report, your patch has been applied in our repository,
it should work fine.

You may be right, but we did not get any feedback about such issues yet.

OK. Well, I didn't know what the context was when I was unexpectedly copied
into this discussion, and it's been quite a while since I've looked at
LDraw.

My understanding is that the .dat files are the preferred form of
modification even though the maintainers may use tools that save and load
files in other formats. I don't know anything about the library maintenance
process to be able to say if the .dat files are generated from something
else.

Checking now, it seems that the parts library described at

  http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads-req-viewdownloaddetails-lid-98.html

is not redistributable because it contains non-redistributable parts.
Issues with the parts library include:

 1. Licenses:
   a. Creative Commons Attribution 2.0. I don't know how this fits into any
  of the Debian policies.
   b. All rights reserved. It seems that you would have to ask the
copyright holders of those parts to choose a license, or just avoid
  distributing those parts.
 2. Binaries in the archive.
   a. A Windows executable file.
   b. Three ZIP files containing source code, with some files licensed
under the GPL v2 or later, and other files with no licenses.
 3. No build system for the platform-independent tool required to create the
parts list.

It should be straightforward to find all the CC parts, simply by using grep
to find the ones with the appropriate !LICENSE statement.

Hope this helps,

David

Bug#661194: webalizer: Catalan program translation not up-to-date

2012-02-24 Thread Jordi Mallach
Package: webalizer
Version: 2.23.05-1
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

Hi,

While waiting for a Webalizer update in Debian (thanks!), I rewrote the
upstream Catalan translation entirely, as the old one was *horrible*.

However, the po file hasn't been refreshed with the new strings, and using
Webalizer in Catalan in Debian is still a sad, sad, sad experience. Can
you refresh the po files using the lang/ data?

This patch really needs to go upstream, I hope you can convince the author
somehow to accept it.

Thanks a lot,
Jordi

My opening paragraph did say that didn't it Sorry for that. By the end of
the mail I had corrected that:

Sorry for the confusion. I should have amended my message before hitting send.

I never suggested this was a security vulnerability. Clearly it isn't. I
think Julia's frustration is that when reloading the firewall rules after the
upgrade she gets a broken firewall and a WARNING message. Is there a way to
prevent loading of the rules entirely and preserving the original firewall
state in the case of a parsing error? Maybe that's reaching a little; I'm just
curious if that might be a good path forward to prevent future updates from
blowing away currently running firewalls when the administrator is unaware of
configuration file changes (even parser fixes)? This will happen again I'm
sure(completely by accident). See the history of bash for more examples(and
bash upgrades are generally really clean).

Agreed. You cannot regression test against undocumented features.

Bug#661193: linux-tools-3.2: perf fails to annotate code with separate debug info under some conditions

2012-02-24 Thread Sami Liedes
Package: linux-tools-3.2
Version: 3.2.1-2
Severity: normal

Hi!

perf report does not show source code lines (annotation) for some
binaries with separate debug information if those build-id's have been
cached in perf's build-id cache. This is true for at least those
packages whose debug symbols are installed in
/usr/lib/debug/path/binary and not in
/usr/lib/debug/.build-id/.../$hash. For example, e2fslibs, e2fsprogs
and I believe very many others packages are affected by this (the
mentioned packages even after fixing their -dbg packages per #661071).

This manifests with the following symptoms. If you want to test this,
I suggest either waiting for a fix for #661071 to be uploaded or to
choose a different package from e2fsprogs and its corresponding -dbg
package (but not one where the -dbg package has files in the .build-id
directory):

1. Compile a package with separate debug info (so that you have the
sources available actually) and install both the package and the -dbg
package. Use a binary from the package in place of dumpe2fs in
following steps.

2. Run perf record -g dumpe2fs $some_fs_image

3. Run perf annotate

NOTE: functions in e.g. libext2fs.so.2.4 or in dumpe2fs are not
annotated with source code lines

4. run perf buildid-list. Note that it lists binaries for those
non-annotated functions. Either find the file in the
~/.debug/.build-id directory tree, or investigate using
perf annotate -vv (grep for "Executing:") where the file file
resides.

5. Note that the file you found is a copy of the binary or the library
in question, *not* a copy of the relevant file from /usr/lib/debug.
The objdump command that perf reports executing does not annotate it
with source code lines. If you try that same line but replace the
filename with the path to the actual binary, objdump knows where to
find the debug info and does annotate it.

6. mv perf.data perf.data.tmp

7. perf record -g ls

(this step is important because it empties the build-id cache and
populates it with objects needed for the ls execution; turns out perf
handles annotating fine once the relevant object is no longer in the
build-id cache)

8. perf annotate -i perf.data.tmp

NOTE: the functions that were unannotated in step 3 in that old
perf.data are now correctly annotated with source code.

I think the actual bug is that, for some reason, in step 2 perf record
copies the non-debug version to the build-id cache instead of the
debug version. I have not investigated why this happens.

I also tried to remove the wrong file from the build-id cache and
re-add the correct one with perf buildid-cache -v
--remove=1a22c5f5c7a51ede62d01eeba1de59c15e7c9325; perf buildid-cache
--add=/path/to/file, but for some reason I couldn't get that --remove=
command to actually remove anything from the cache.

Bug#661192: Haddock is stricter than GHC about newtypes in FFI code

Hi,

this bug makes haskell-glut FTBFS and is forwarded upstream as
http://trac.haskell.org/haddock/ticket/194, this is just for reference:

Hi,

this is Haddock version 2.10.0 as shipped with GHC 7.4.1. The package
GLUT-2.1.2.1 contains FFI code that GHC warns about, but haddock fails:

[ 9 of 21] Compiling Graphics.UI.GLUT.Window (

But something is fishy, the [..] part contains a few of the Warning: newtype

amiss here.

OK. Can you check whether this applies to chromium 17, and if not
refresh it? I think this is something we should apply.

Best wishes,
Mike

Bug#658499: arno-iptables-firewall syntax changes

2012-02-24 Thread Arno van Amersfoort

Dear Zac,

Your assumption is wrong. One can still use the short form
"SRC_PORT>INT_IP~INT_PORT". So the only real problem is when people
use(d) the undocumented, no longer working, "~SRC_PORT>INT_IP~INT_PORT"
form. The version that no longer allowed this form, is ALSO the version
that introduced rule sanity checking which IS mentioned in the
CHANGELOG. This means, as I also told Julia, that the firewall does
report that it was unable to parse *ALL* rules properly. It even reports
which rule fails and it certainly doesn´t cause any security issues.

Furthermore it's impossible for us to (regression) test any previously
undocumented/unintended functionality and report it in the CHANGELOG
accordingly.

cheers,

Arno

On 24-2-2012 18:21, Slade, Zac wrote:

Arno,
It sounds to me like you made a change to the software that changes the behavior of the
NAT_FORWARD_TCP setting to no longer allow a missing source IP address. In previous versions you allowed
"~SRC_PORT>INT_IP~INT_PORT" and now you must explicitly use the more complete form of
"SRC_IP~SRC_PORT>INT_IP~INT_PORT" or you will have ignored port forwarding rules.

Correct me if I'm wrong Arno, you seem to indicate in this bug report that
the earlier behavior is a bug. If so a note in the CHANGELOG stating that you
addressed a parser BUG would be helpful to anyone. I also understand that you
probably won't be able to do this for the current upload as amending CHANGELOG
entries isn't usually done. Maybe just a note in your upstream CHANGELOG
noting the bug fix.

Julia,
Looking at the current form of the firewall.conf that ships with arno in
sid I see the following:

# NAT TCP/UDP/IP forwards. Forward ports or protocols from the gateway to
# an internal client through (D)NAT. Note that you can also use these
# variables to forward ports to DMZ hosts.
#
# TCP/UDP form:
# "{SRCIP1,SRCIP2,...~}PORT1,PORT2-PORT3,...>DESTIP1{~port} \
#{SRCIP3,...~}PORT3,...>DESTIP2{~port}"
#
# IP form:
# "{SRCIP1,SRCIP2,...~}PROTO1,PROTO2,...>DESTIP1 \
#{SRCIP3~}PROTO3,PROTO4,...>DESTIP2"
#
# TCP/UDP port forward examples:
# Simple (forward port 80 to internal host 192.168.0.10):
# NAT_FORWARD_xxx="80>192.168.0.10 20,21>192.168.0.10"
# Advanced (forward port 20& 21 to 192.168.0.10 and
# forward from 1.2.3.4 port 81 to 192.168.0.11 port 80:
# NAT_FORWARD_xxx="1.2.3.4~81>192.168.0.11~80"
#
# IP protocol forward example:
#(forward protocols 47& 48 to 192.168.0.10)
#NAT_FORWARD_IP="47,48>192.168.0.10"
#
# NOTE 1: {~port} is optional. Use it to redirect a specific port to a
# different port on the internal client.
# NOTE 2: {SRCIPx} is optional. Use it to restrict access for specific source
# (inet) IP addresses.
# (IPv4 Only)
# -

This does not seem to allow the syntax you were using. Notice the form
"{SRCIP1,SRCIP2,...~}PORT1,PORT2-PORT3,...>DESTIP1{~port}". This seems to
indicate to me that the ~ in your previous examples is what caused your breakage. Can you
confirm that the documentation is correct and that you can set
NAT_FORWARD_TCP=SRC_PORT>INT_IP~INT_PORT and it work correctly?

Thank you,
Zac Slade

Taking over this package, at least for the moment.

I have no objection to others committing code. Use of branches is encouraged;

Bug#628444: Info received (iwlagn - "MAC is in deep sleep", cannot restore wifi operation)

2012-02-24 Thread Juha Jäykkä
> tried at least 5 different versions. I have almost completely stopped
> using hibernate (suspend only) on my system and have not seen the problem
> in a long time and for my system at least, hibernate seems to be related

I never thought it was a firmware issue before, so I never paid any attention
to the firmware versions before. But now that I am back to 0.33, it looks
stable – although it is just 24 hours since last problem, that is nevertheless
towards the longer intervals. Usually it is just a couple of hours unless the
workarounds are on, which they are not at the moment (because I wanted to test
this).

I never had any issues with hibernate or suspend and certainly neither was
ever needed to trigger the bug. For example yesterday, I hit the bug after
about 3 hours without ever putting the laptop off my lap meanwhile.

This is past my knowledge and understanding, but it seems reasonable enough.
Is there anything I can do? If the pci bus is the reason, it might explain the
random freezes I have been experiencing (see #575965 for details), too.

Ok, so I just hit the problem while writing this up: 0.33 & 2.6.39 does not
help. Attached is what happened when I turned the HW kill switch after the MAC
went to unrecoverable deep sleep. Perhaps that backtrace can help figure this
out.

What is VERY strange here is the fact that I did not have this problem before
going from 2.6.39 to 3.0.0, but not I have it even with 2.6.39! How can that
be?!? What else is involved with talking to the wifi card except the kernel
and the firmware? Do I need to downgrade iwconfig et al, too?

This is *very* annoying. I now need to boot more than once a day compared to
once every few months before!

Bug#636776: libfreetype6: Line height squeezed in GNU Emacs

I just tried upgrading the the newest libfreetype6 again, and now I
notice that GNU Emacs isn't the only program where lines get crammed
together by the upgrade: Text in other programs, such as Pidgin, also
gets changed display - line spacing is decreased a lot.

I wonder if this is due to some configuration in my system, because I
doubt that people wouldn't complain about that look in a newly installed
system.

Setting this works fine for me - but that doesn't solve the problem for
all the other programs where the newer libfreetype6 decreases the
default line spacing making text hard to read.

I have looked in /etc/fonts/* but I think I need someone to take a swing
at me with a clue bat...

Bug#626019: hang even on amd64 with backtrace

Hi!

I was able to reproduce the hang on amd64. Attached is a backtrace,
unfortunately from an optimized build but maybe it gives someone a quick
idea what's going on.

Thank you for reacting quickly!

However, I am re-opening the bug, since there's still something that
looks incorrect in the debian/copyright file:

| Files: *
| Copyright: 2008, Justin Samuel ,
| 2006-2007, Everaldo Coelho
| License: MPL-1.1 or GPL-3

It does not seem to me that the majority of the shipped files are
dual-licensed under MPLv1.1/GPLv3
I see many files solely released under the terms of the GNU GPL v3 (or
later).

Do you have information about a further licensing option (under the
MPLv1.1) that's not written inside the source files?
If this is the case, I think you should document this additional
information in the debian/copyright file...

Please fix the debian/copyright file.
Thanks for your time!

Yes, this rather pedantic warning is more trouble than it's worth. I'll remove
it.

This is what libgssglue is. The question is: does it export enough of the
non-standard interfaces to let ssh do all the things it wants to do? It
was fairly limited the last time I looked at it.

Hi,

FYI, I have applied your patch, and it will be uploaded with the rest of
the package improvements (symbol file, etc.). I am also expecting to
make a transition to have version 1.6 in SID / testing, which may take a
bit more time. In the mean time, you're welcome to use the version in
the Git on Alioth (see the package VCS fields).

Also of course: thanks a lot for your patche. :)

Here is Thomas Meyer's explanation from [1]:

,
| the size of autofs_v5_packet_union is 300 bytes on x86 and 304 bytes on
x86_64 kernels.
| when running systemd (x86) on an x86_64 kernel this leads to a hang in
automount_fd_event->loop_read
| as a second fd_event is trigged for the remaining 4 bytes. but the loop_read
tries to read

OK, so it was all supposed to be non-word-size-dependent and someone
messed it up with padding.

The same thing happened with some newer ethtool command structures.
:-/ Would be nice if we had some systematic testing to detect this
before such definitions escape into a release.

Sane allignment rules. Only x86-32 and m68k aligns 8-byte values on
