Hello Hubert,

please allow me to "ping" you about the ufraw lensfun support. We are
nearing the freeze for Wheezy and I'm getting a bit nervous now. Can we
have ufraw with lensfun support?

Bug#678093: RFP: php-mail-mbox -- PHP PEAR module to read and modify Unix mailboxes

2012-06-18 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: wnpp

package, also ccing Thijs and Thomas since they maintain php-mail-*
packages)

* Package name: php-mail-mbox
  Version : 0.6.3
  Upstream Author : Roberto Berto , Christian Weiske

* URL : http://pear.php.net/package/Mail_Mbox
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: PHP
  Description : Library to read and modify Unix mailboxes

This library can split messages inside a Mbox, return the number of messages,
retrieve, update or remove an specific message or add a message on the Mbox.

---

This PHP library is a dependency of a Tuleap (http://tuleap.net) which
I'm trying to package. It would be great if someone in the PHP Pear
Packaging team could take care of creating this package.

It's not a complicated package (single PHP file + some tests files + some
examples) but I'd like to avoid having to join the team just for this
package.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Bug#678092: RFA: emil -- Conversion Filter for Internet Messages

2012-06-18 Thread Roland Rosenfeld
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the emil package.

The package description is:
 Emil v2 is a filter for converting Internet Messages. It supports
 three basic formats: MIME, SUN Mailtool and plain old style RFC822.
 It can be used with sendmail, as a mailer, or as a prefilter or
 backend program with a mail client program, or as a plain filter.

I stopped using this tool myself some years ago since SUN Mailtool is
no longer used and so my primary usage for this tool (converting mails
from SUN Mailtool format to MIME) no longer exists.

If someone wants to adopt this package please stand up!

Otherwise we should remove the package from archive.

Sloppy. Looks like this is already filed and the fix used is a little
better (since it adds an xz-utils recommendation --- by the way,
should python-apt recommend bzip2, too?). So untagging the patch and
merging the bugs.

Thanks for your work,

Thanks, I've fixed that by using an empty defaults file so any
/root/.my.cnf will be ignored.

The bug will be fixed in the next upload of 1.7.1-1 to unstable.

Yes, thats right. The "problem" is that /proc//environ might
be readable to other users.

But I don't think this will be a problem here, because on linux only
the process owner can read such a file - and root of course.

Please let me know if you have any additions.

Removals from only testing are handled by the release team. The ftp
team only removes packages from unstable/experimental (and britney then
automatically tries to remove them from testing).

Bug#678091: python-apt: recommends xz-lzma but does not use it

2012-06-18 Thread Jonathan Nieder
Package: python-apt
Version: 0.8.4
Severity: minor
Justification: http://bugs.debian.org/677991
Tags: patch

Hi,

Since December, 2011 (due to [*], presumably), python-apt recommends
xz-lzma to ensure apt's ExtractTar is capable of installing
lzma-compressed packages (like google-chrome). Now in sid the xz-lzma
package is being removed in favor of xz-utils providing "lzma" through
the alternatives system directly, making that recommends harder to
literally satisfy.

Sorry I missed this before uploading. We can add a Provides to
xz-utils if appropriate, but it seems that python-apt has not used the
"lzma" command in practice since apt 0.90.

  * apt-pkg/aptconfiguration.cc:
- if present, prefer xz binary over lzma

How about something like this patch?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Confirmed. Thanks, I'll do my best to fix this up.

+1 to stay with the old behaviour.

As a matter of fact, I've downgraded to v2 for the time being.

Confirmed. Also, init scripts which fail are a really strong kind of
error, as they also usually break package upgrades.

Yes, I agree. Keeping the bug open for this.

Bug#678086: ftp.debian.org: Please remove wherpygo and python-lua from testing

2012-06-18 Thread Bas Wijnen

I just filed serious bugs for wherpygo (#678084) and python-lua
(#678085), both maintained by me, in order to keep them from being
released in the next stable release. Please remove them from testing.

Thanks,

Bug#678085: python-lua: unsuitable for testing

2012-06-18 Thread Bas Wijnen
Package: python-lua
Version: 0.2-1
Severity: serious

Python-lua is still quite experimental and subject to change. To avoid
maintainance, it should not be in the upcoming release, and therefore
removed from testing. The only reverse dependency is wherpygo, which
should also be removed from testing.

Wherpygo is subject to lots of changes. Also, the name will change in
the near future. As it is, it should not be included in the upcoming
release, and therefore it should be removed from testing.

I can enable it right now, but the next stable release (Debian 7.0,
'wheezy') will use Linux 3.2. Do you want it added to that as well? It
looks like it wouldn't be too hard to do.

Jérémy:
I noticed the "Cancel" button after a few hours, but because I was unsure of
what exactly it would cancel, and whether it was a required or optional step
of the proceess, I opted not to risk wasting all the time already invested and
didn't cancel anything.

Again, I think more information about what was going on could have enabled me
to make an informed decision.

Christian: I understand and agree with your point of view.
However, I still consider that an operation that is going to take more than a
day to complete is granted at least a warning to the user, as it is likely way
outside the expectations of users requesting guiding in partitioning that such
ancilliary preparation of the storage medium that is going to hold the about
to be installed operating system, takes so much time to complete.

> If you want to use an encrypted partition without erasing the data on

I would have, had I known in advance that it was going to erase the volume
prior to creating the filesystem in it, and that it would take for ever to
that.

I could have made an informed decision, but only if I had been provided with
the necessary information.

Hmph. :)

Please send a summary of the symptoms to Alexander Viro
, cc-ing linux-...@vger.kernel.org,
linux-fsde...@vger.kernel.org, and either me or this bug log so we can
track it. Be sure to mention:

 - steps to reproduce the problem, expected result, actual result, and
   how the difference indicates a bug
 - the date and log message for the commit that introduced the problem
 - which kernel versions you have tested and what happens with each
 - any other weird symptoms or observations
 - a link to for the backstory

Hopefully Al can say whether the change in behavior was intentional
and, either way, what an appropriate way to move forward would be.

Thanks again for your help, and hope that helps.

Sincerely,

Though maybe that is what Osamu ran into? If that's it, the fix will
be even simpler: change the recommends to lzma, or to "xz-utils (>=
5.1.1alpha+20120614-1) | lzma" if the python-apt packagers want to

Bug#675971: what should we be doing?

Is the situation that all users that are at 1.2.3-348 and older can
speak to each other and all users that are at 1.2.3-349 and greater can
speak to each other, but >=349 cannot speak to <=348 users?

If so, is the intended plan for everyone to bump up to >=349?

If that is true, at the very least this warrants a NEWS entry.

Crashes here in wine-1.2, wine-1.3.32, wine-1.5.6.

If you can run a regression test, that would be helpful:

Bug#678082: Landscape-mode is broken in XeLaTeX

Like in the other bug report: we are no LaTeX help desk. Please
ask on comp.text.tex or somewhere else.

In this special case, you should have read and followed the advise
we are giving in the bug report text, namely produce a
MINIMAL EXAMPLE
Do you really thing we can analyze a file that is sooo complicated?

With this kind of bug report not many people will be willing to take
a look at it, neither here, nor at comp.text.tex, nor anywhere else.

To repeat from the bug report text:

Bug#678079: KOMA-Script -classes work badly with fontspec of XeLaTeX

2012-06-18 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi Juhapekka,

short question: Was it *ever* different, i.e., is it a regression or not?

In any case, I guess that has nothing to do with the *Debian* packages,
but with KOMAscript itself.

And if this is the case, I hope you have read the reportbug message,
the Debian TeX Team is not a LaTeX Help Desk. Plpease ask your
questions concerning these things in either a TeX User group,
comp.text.tex, or directly to the KOMAscript author.

Just for your completeness, here is the text again:

for any feature request, and also for any bugs that are
very difficult to fix due to major design considerations.

If we had a simple way to detect whether a server has the old Apache
bug asanka mentioned or the newer Apache misconfiguration you
mentioned, this would be easy to fix. Unfortunately, no one has
provided that.

Incidentally, severities don't actually matter. Working code matters.

Hope that helps,

Bug#611943: dictionary-el: Customizing dictionary-server does not cause list of dictionaries to be updated

2012-06-18 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Reuben Thomas  writes:

> If you change dictionary-server, then surely the list of dictionaries

AFAICT (both from trying this and from reviewing the source), this
should only be a problem if you keep any *Dictionary* buffers open. As
soon as you close the last one (by pressing "q", for instance), Emacs
will close the connection to the original dictionary server; the next
dictionary command will then open a fresh connection to the newly
specified server.

That behavior strikes me as fairly reasonable, so I'm inclined to leave
it as is, particularly given that I will be adding support for
customizing dictionary server settings at startup.

At any rate, thanks for the report and sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate the pointer to information on how to make this message go
away on my system, but I intended the bug report as a request to make
wpa_supplicant less chatty by default.

My question above still applies: Does wpa_supplicant really need to log
every time rekeying occurs? What value does this provide? Could this
message become something that only appears at -v or above, rather than
by default?

Thanks,
Josh Triplett

Bug#606124: Workaround

2012-06-18 Thread Alex King

The upstream template seems to be flawed in two ways.

The file name (12-dm-permissions.rules) puts it in the udev rules too
early to use environment variables (e.g.. ENV{DM_VG_NAME}).

Apparently in RHEL6 these values are set up in files named at 10 and 11
priority, but in debian they are set up in
/lib/udev/rules.d/56-lvm.rules and or
/lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage-lvm.rules, so to be safe I used
62-dm-permissions.rules.

Secondly the template file has the following lines:

# "add" event is processed on coldplug only!
ACTION!="add|change", GOTO="dm_end"
ENV{DM_UDEV_RULES_VSN}!="?*", GOTO="dm_end"

at the start, and

LABEL="dm_end"

at the end.

There is already a good template installed at
/usr/share/doc/dmsetup/examples/udev-dm-permissions.rules including LVM
examples, but there is no guidance on how to use it. I found this file
after having done a lot of work

When I copied it to /etc/udev/rules.d and filled it in with appropriate
values, it worked for me.

The other problem I initially thought I was encountering was when lvm is
bought up in the initramfs, (e.g. root file system on lvm,) any user
entered rules file in /etc/udev/rules.d/ is not copied into the initrd.
However, for file systems not needed at initramfs time, this does not
matter, it seems lvm sets them up correctly later in boot.

I suggest a note in /usr/share/doc/lvm2/README.Debian

"To change the permissions or ownership of a LVM device and have it
persist across reboot, for example for a daemon that works directly with
disk partitions, you need an appropriate udev rule. Copy
/usr/share/doc/dmsetup/examples/udev-dm-permissions.rules to /etc/udev.d
and modify it to mention the required ownership and permissions."

Cheers,
Alex

Bug#678082: Landscape-mode is broken in XeLaTeX

Version: 2012.20120611-1

Problem is this:

juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.landscape.pdf should be a

landscape-mode is broken. In other pages averything is fine.

-- Package-specific info:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We will only consider bug reports concerning
the packaging of TeX Live as relevant. If you have problems with
combination of packages in a LaTeX document, please consult your
local TeX User Group, the comp.text.tex user group, the author of
the original .sty file, or any other help resource.

   *** The Debian TeX Team is *no* LaTeX Help Desk ***

If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report.

Please run your example with
(pdf)latex -recorder ...
(or any other program that supports -recorder) and send us the generated
file with the extension .fls, it lists all the files loaded during
the run and can easily explain problems induced by outdated files in
your home directory.

Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are
needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Bug#678081: libsvn-perl: Assertion `svn_dirent_is_canonical(base, pool)' failed with SVN::Client

2012-06-18 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: libsvn-perl

Severity: important

I get an assertion failure with:

#!/usr/bin/env perl

my $svnc = SVN::Client->new;
$svnc->info('.', undef, undef, sub { }, 0);

With subversion 1.6.17dfsg-3:

With subversion 1.7.5-1:
perl: /tmp/buildd/subversion-1.7.5/subversion/libsvn_subr/dirent_uri.c:955:
svn_dirent_join: Assertion `svn_dirent_is_canonical(base, pool)' failed.

The assertion failure apparently occurs in the library, but perhaps
the Perl interface provided wrong data, causing the assertion failure.

Note: I'm not sure that the program is correct (the SVN::Client
man page doesn't have many details), but even if it isn't, one
should never get an assertion failure in Perl. So, there's at
least a bug on the subversion side.

Bug#678079: KOMA-Script -classes work badly with fontspec of XeLaTeX

2012-06-18 Thread Juhapekka Tolvanen
Package: texlive-latex-recommended
Version: 2012.20120611-1
Severity: important

Please, check out files in this WWW-directory:

http://iki.fi/juhtolv/tmp/bugreports/LaTeX/02/

Problem is this:

When I compile file juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.tex , it includes a
file called RST_Palatino_MPlus.sty . fontspeac is loaded in the
beginning of juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.tex . RST_Palatino_MPlus.sty
has these important font-definitions:

 Clip here
\newfontface\mytitlefont{M+ 1p black}
\newfontface\mysubtitlefont{M+ 1p heavy}

\newfontface\mysectionfont{M+ 1p black}
\newfontface\mysubsectionfont{M+ 1p heavy}
\newfontface\mysubsubsectionfont{M+ 1p bold}
\newfontface\myparagraphfont{M+ 1p medium}
\newfontface\mysubparagraphfont{M+ 1p regular}

% Now use that \mytitlefont the first time. These work:
\addtokomafont{title}{\mytitlefont}
\addtokomafont{subtitle}{\mysubtitlefont}

% Not used in certain document classes
%\addtokomafont{part}{}
%\addtokomafont{partnumber}{}
%\addtokomafont{chapter}{}

% FIXME: These do not work! It still uses MgOpen Cosmetica
\addtokomafont{section}{\mysectionfont}
\addtokomafont{subsection}{\mysubsectionfont}
\addtokomafont{subsubsection}{\mysubsubsectionfont}
\addtokomafont{paragraph}{\myparagraphfont}
\addtokomafont{subparagraph}{\mysubparagraphfont}

 Clip here

In reality, only title of whole document really has that font I want.
Titles of sections, subsections etc. still use that MgOpen Cosmetica.
Just see that file juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.pdf .

Here is another example:

When I compile file juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.landscape.tex , it
includes a file called RST_Landscape.sty . fontspeac is loaded in the
beginning of juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.landscape.tex .
RST_Landscape.sty has these important font-definitions:

 Clip here

%%% This is the old name for \setmainfont, retained for backwards compatibility.
%\setromanfont{DejaVu Serif}

\setmainfont{DejaVu Sans}
\setmonofont{DejaVu Sans Mono}
\setsansfont{DejaVu Sans}

\newfontfamily\mytitlefont[BoldFont={DejaVu Serif}]{DejaVu Serif Bold}

%%% Now use that \mytitlefont .
\setkomafont{title}{\mytitlefont\Huge}
\setkomafont{subtitle}{\mytitlefont\huge}

\setkomafont{subsubsection}{\mytitlefont\large}
\setkomafont{paragraph}{\mytitlefont\normalsize}
\setkomafont{subparagraph}{\mytitlefont\normalsize}

 Clip here

I just try use DejaVu Serif in all titles, including titles of
sections and subsections. In reality, only title of whole document
really has that font I want. Titles of sections, subsections etc.
still use that DejaVu Sans. In addition, I just can not see any
fontsize-difference between titles of sections and subsections. Just
see that file juhtolv_tolle_harjoitukset.landscape.pdf .

the original .sty file, or any other help resource.

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of

you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that

restorecon will never do any harm. So running it more than it's needed,
running it twice, etc doesn't matter at all.

When in doubt it's best to run it. You wouldn't want to run it a million
times, but running it twice instead of once in the init script won't slow
things down in any way that makes a statistically significant difference to
the boot process.

Bug#678075: subversion: incorrect Last Changed Rev after upgrade from 1.6.17 to 1.7.5

2012-06-18 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: subversion
Version: 1.7.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

(actually that's silent data corruption in the WC)

Subversion 1.7.5 no longer notices a change of revision of some file
when a parent directory has been moved. In particular, this yields
incorrect keyword expansion.

The bug can be reproduced with the following script:

#!/bin/sh

set -e

mkdir my-test-svn
cd my-test-svn

svnadmin create svn
svn co file://`pwd`/svn wc
cd wc

svn mkdir dir1
svn ci -m 'add dir1'

printf '\044Revision\044\nfoo\n' > dir1/file
svn add dir1/file
svn propset svn:keywords Revision dir1/file
svn ci -m 'add dir1/file'
echo "File dir1/file:"
cat dir1/file

svn up
svn mv dir1 dir2
echo "File dir2/file:"
cat dir2/file
svn ci -m 'mv dir1 dir2'
echo "File dir2/file:"
cat dir2/file

svn up
echo "File dir2/file:"
cat dir2/file
svn info dir2/file

svn mv dir2/file .
echo "File file:"
cat file
svn ci -m 'mv dir2/file .'
echo "File file:"
cat file

cd ../..
rm -rf my-test-svn

If I grep the output with '.Revision:\|Last Changed Rev:', I get:
  * svn 1.6.17 (r1128011): 2 2 3 3 3 -1 4
  * svn 1.7.5  (r1336830): 2 2 2 2 2 2 4

There are 4 differences, but only 3 really matter, because for the
last one (-1 vs 2), the commit hasn't been done yet (so that one is
in some intermediate state).

Thus the important differences (3 vs 2) correspond to:

svn ci -m 'mv dir1 dir2'
echo "File dir2/file:"
cat dir2/file

svn up
echo "File dir2/file:"
cat dir2/file
svn info dir2/file

The last test of the script shows that the problem doesn't occur
when the file itself is moved.

Because of that, when checking out a repository with svn 1.7.5, some
files seem to go back in time.

I'm lowering the severity to minor, because in my opinion this doesn't
impose a significant impact on wpa_cli's usability.

This is caused by switching wpa_cli to the new (since 1.0~) internal
readline replacement, which might not have all the bells and whistles
GNU readline has to offer, yet(?). You can confirm this by rebuilding
wpa with this patch:

So far this seems to be the only side effect of switching to
WPA_CLI_EDIT (personally I didn't even notice that yet), and abandoning
readline usage is wanted for licensing reasons (especially looking at
the wpa 2.x branch and readline6/ GPL-3). With a little luck, this
feature may get added to future upstream versions, as there seems to be
some rudimentary ctrl-L handling already. In which case we'd consider
backporting it to wpa - although likely not for wheezy.

As we want/ need to avoid depending on GNU readline, I may tag this bug
as wontfix for the time being. Although I certainly hope that wpa_cli's
internal readline implementation gains feature parity with GNU
readline in the externally visible regards.

Bug#664850: (no subject)

2012-06-18 Thread Michael Lustfield
While it's true that the wiki suffered a lot of down time in the past, it's now
been moved to some redundant servers. Uptime should be less of a concern in the
future. 6.0MB of compressed data seems like an awful lot of data to expand and
organize and maintain. I can't think of any sane way to do this.

Bug#669314: [squeeze -> wheezy regression] nfs: kernel forces trailing slash for export in /proc/self/mounts

Thanks Jonathan,

Based on this tip I tested that commit and neighboring commits and was
able to find the commit that introduced the problem:
c7f404b40a3665d9f4e9a927cc5c1ee0479ed8f9
vfs: new superblock methods to override /proc/*/mount{s,info}

The last commit to be problem free was the previous one:
f8ad9c4bae99854c961ca79ed130a0d11d9ab53c
nfs: nfs_do_{ref,sub}mount() superblock argument is redundant

I think this bug should be fixed before Wheezy becomes stable.

Thanks a lot,
Chris

More debugging results:

 * If I replace -Os with -O0 to disable optimisation, the crash goes
   away too. Suggests (maybe) a compiler bug here...

 * There's a real bug in the ARM assembly version of longjmp in
   usr/klibc/arch/arm/setjmp.S: it will always pass back its first
   argument as a return value, even if it's 0 (see the man page for
   more details). Oddly, the Thumb implementation in the same file
   *is* correct!

Bug#678071: linux-image-3.4-trunk-686-pae: Kernel 3.4 does not include CONFIG_MOUSE_SYNAPTICS_USB

2012-06-18 Thread Stefan Monnier
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.4.1-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm looking forward to Debian's 3.4 kernel, mostly because it should
finally free me from manually compiling the synaptics-usb kernel
module I've been using for years now (pretty much the last such module,
except for tp-smapi).

But I was disappointed to see that the linux-image-3.4-trunk-686-pae
in `experimental' does not include it. I understand that the
`experimental' branch may not be representative, but I want to
make sure that when the real 3.4 kernel shows up in `unstable'
it will include this module, hence this bug-report.

Bug#661991: should libtrash be removed?

2012-06-18 Thread Jose Luis Tallón

Hello,

libtrash is indeed not maintained anymore AFAIK.

Please file the appropriate RoM / RoQA if you have the time to do
so. Otherwise, I'll do it myself.

Thank you for taking the time to review this bug.

Hi!

Your package libtrash has an RC bug since the beginning of march. The
bug can easily be reproduced on amd64: It does not save files from
being deleted, but it causes a segfault in in vim and other binaries.
But even on i386, the package does not appear to work as explained in
the documentation - I also could not get it to rescue any file I
deleted with rm. It only created SYSTEM_ROOT within ~/Trash.

I tried to debug the Segfault on amd64, but I could not gain any
further insight as the breakpoints I set were ignored, and the
backtrace I got with valgrind did not fit what I saw in the source code.

I'm wondering whether the package should be removed, as the latest
upstream version is 3.2, which was released in 2008, so it seems
pretty much unmaintained. The latest upload also dates back to 2008.
Also, the package does not have any reverse dependencies.

Note that problems I mentioned can also reproduced in stable, so if
the package is removed from testing, it should probably also get
removed from stable.

Greetings from Salzburg BSP

Hi,

(Please Cc me in replies, I am not subscribed to debian-science mailing list)

I am looking for a sponsor for the package "libquantum".

It builds those binary packages:
  libquantum-dev - library for the simulation of a quantum computer
(development files)
  libquantum7 - library for the simulation of a quantum computer

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:
  http://mentors.debian.net/package/libquantum

Direct link for download:

Changes in the package:

libquantum (1.1.0-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload.
  * Set maintainer to Debian QA Group (see #674883).
  * Deleted Vcs-* fields from debian/control.
  * Package was switched to source format 3.0 (quilt).
  * Added build dependency from autotools-dev.
  * Bumped Standards-Version to 3.9.3.
  * debian/rules was updated:
- now dh is used instead of direct dh_* commands
- used hardening flags in compiler options
- added section get-orig-source (uscan is used)
- fixed FTBFS because of outdated config.{sub,guess} (Closes: #572527)
  * Fixed such lintian errors, warnings and wishes:

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Also I need DD's help to create git repository for this package in collab-maint.
I followed instructions from [1] and sent the request to join. Now I am waiting
for reply.

Best regards,

On double checking, I realise that I do not have python3-apt installed in that
chroot and that python-debian is falling back to its internal parser. I should
also reiterate that the test suite passed without issue with sid's python3
(3.2.3~rc2-1) package; the test suite failures are all in the communication
with gpg not apt.

The root of all the failures is deb822.GpgInfo.from_sequence() and its
interaction with subprocess. While the changes summary for 3.3 doesn't mention
anything about subprocess, there's a 1000 line diff between 3.2.3 and 3.3.0a4.
The key difference is that the "universal_newlines" behaviour flag now
influences
the data that is sent to stdin of the subprocess as well as the stdout/stderr
coming back. This means that the input data given to subprocess.communicate()
must be of the appropriate type:

«The type of input must be bytes or, if universal_newlines was True, a
string.»

http://docs.python.org/dev/library/subprocess.html#subprocess.Popen.communicate

My reading of this is that for python3.3, setting universal_newlines=True and
sending bytes is wrong. The attached patch turns universal_newlines off and
sends bytes in both directions. The alternative would be to leave
universal_newlines=True and fix the treatment of "inp" before passing it to
p.communicate(). I have no feeling either way other than the changes I made
looked less invasive.

(BTW if GpgInfo._get_full_string() is going to return bytes, perhaps the
method name and docstring should change -- misleading method names make bytes
vs strings even harder to track down than they otherwise should be.)

Application of the two attached patches along with your patch stack allows the
test suite to pass with both python3.2 and python3.3a4.

cheers
Stuart

Hi Osamu,

seems to be a bug in xml-resume-library package or dpkg or whatever,
that this package wasn't removed. Furthermore, I checked all my
aptitude log files and there is no mentioning of this file, so
I am a bit surprised that this file is still here.

Anyway, I removed /etc/sgml/xml-resume-library.cat.

Still no success ... we are left wiht w3c-dtd-xhtml.cat:

>  * w3c-dtd-xhtml  (package RC bug fixed Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2012)

Ok:
rc  w3c-dtd-xhtml  1.1-5

Well, then
$ aptitude purge w3c-dtd-xhtml
...

THat makes it already a bit better, now I get only one error:
$ debiandoc2text test.sgml

Could it be that there is no update running...

Ahhh and now it is good.

Ok, let us consider this bug closed, but allow me some remarks:

I don't know why *you* are deducing things like:
- me using only the command line
- me not being fully uptodate although I mentioned it several times
  that I am using sid and upgraded everything

And why you assume that I keep removed packages around.

I keep disagreeing: Here several things have been messed up and
this can happen in the very same way when upgrading from stable,
why don't you see this problem?

If someone has w3c-dtd-xhtml removed but not purged in squeeze,
the dist-upgrade (how often you recommend it) will *NOT*HELP*
as it leaves the system in a broken state.

And how often you close this bug, this bug is *still* present, because
I can easily recreate it from stable, see:
$ cowbuilder --login --basepath /var/cache/pbuilder/stable.cow

Bug#678067: gnome should not depend on gnome-games

2012-06-18 Thread jaakov jaakov

Package: gnome
Version: 1:3.0+9

Severity: wishlist

Currently, gnome depends on gnome-games. I, probably as well as other users in
the office environments, would like to be able to remove games completely and
retain the standard functionality. I suggest putting gnome-games into the
recommended or suggested list instead. Completely removing the dependency is
fine for me, too. Yes, I know that it is more work, this is why I don't file it
as a normal bug, but as a wishlist.

Bug#678008: debian-installer: "Space fun" theme considered harmful

2012-06-18 Thread Rick Thomas

Holger,

Thanks for your helpful replies.

Can we keep this bug report open, as a way of tracking this issue in
the period before Wheezy release?

While I understand that the debate has passed and it's probably too
late to get the radical changes the OP requested, perhaps there's
still some wiggle-room. Personally I agree with the OP: space-fun is
OK as a demo of the new gnome features, but it's unprofessional
looking and not suitable for a general release.

I've decided that, unfortunately, I can't win that argument.

So I'm taking this opportunity to hope and pray for some kind of
"theme" capability in the new Wheezy desktops that allows us old fuddy-
duddy types to at least get something more to our liking after the
fact of installation. Is there some place we (members of the fuddy-
duddy party) can make our voices heard where it will do some good?

I've just subscribed to "debian-desktop"; is that the best place? Are
there other places as well?

Enjoy!

Rick

Thanks, will try to have a look at rb (and the other gnome related
packages tomorrow).

The worst thing that can happen is that we will have to schedule a
binNMU in a clean buildd environment.
Any reason, rb doesn't prefer libmb5 over libmb3? I.e. try v5 first,
then v4, then v3?

Bug#678066: Proposal to simplify PowerPC CD/DVD boot options

2012-06-18 Thread Milan Kupcevic

Package: debian-cd
Tags: patch d-i wheezy
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I would like to propose a slight change in the way PowerPC CD/DVD boots.

CD/DVD boot-script, which runs on PowerPC Mac machines, can detect
whether it runs on 32-bit or 64-bit processor, then offer boot options
accordingly. This proposed change makes 32-bit Macs offer 32-bit boot
options only. Therefore, pressing ENTER or typing 'install' would load
32-bit kernel. On the other hand, 64-bit PowerPC Macs and IBM CHRP
machines would offer 64-bit boot options by default. Therefore, pressing
ENTER or typing 'install' would load 64-bit kernel, but it would also
offer 32-bit boot options such as install32 or expert32.

Attached diff introduces two new files:

boot32.msg - Boot prompt for 32-bit Macs.
mac32.conf - Options offered on 32-bit Macs.

Bug#678065: debian-cd: Include brltty and espeakup in netinst

2012-06-18 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: debian-cd
Version: 3.1.8
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

Currently, the netinst images do not contain brltty and espeakup. This
means that blind users who install Debian without a network mirror end
up with an unusable installed system, lacking brltty and espeakup to
show braille or talk to them. brltty was explicitly removed in version
3.1.0 because it pulls libicu, resulting to 5MiB increase. The rationale
was that it was not deemed the size for the little userbase. Some blind
users have complained about espeakup, which is about the same story
(pulling espeak etc.), so I'm recording the request here, in case that
could be reconsidered.

You have to wait 30 seconds otherwise you get a cached copy.

So what is it, Stable or Testing or Unstable? The package versions of
the dependencies look like an unfinished mixture, mostly Testing.

I wonder why there are no config files attached... and also no logs
although reportbug would have told you to send some... all that assuming
that the report was written on the machine running apt-cacher-ng 0.7.6.

So was this the case or is the report incorrect or incomplete?

Eduard.

Bug#678064: debian-cd: Please include espeakup on cd1

2012-06-18 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: debian-cd
Version: 3.1.8
Severity: important

Hello,

Currently espeakup is not asserted to be on cd1. If speakup is not on
cd1, blind users (with no braille device) which use only cd1 to install
Debian, end up with an unusable system, because lacking espeakup to talk
to them. To avoid this situation, espeakup should really be on cd1,
just like brltty is. alsa-utils is also needed, but I see it's already
on the list.

Samuel

Bug#677604: [postgresql] Despite failure "/etc/init.d/postgresql start" returns 0 and no output

If you define the job postgresql initscript to be "bring up all
configured postgresql clusters" with zero clusters, exit code 0 would be
a good choice.

I am wondering: Does that (current) approach meet expections of the
user? Imagine a futuristic car with pluggable engines, potentially
several in parallel. When trying to start the car would you prefer a
message "All availabble engines have been started, fine" or message
"Error, no engines found" in case of no engine available?

What consequence would an exit code of 1 at that stage have?
My guess is that an error is shown but booting continues as usual?

Thanks, that's a start.

Best,

Sebastian

I've been hoping that we'll have no mb3 packages in wheezy, since mb3 doesn't
really work ;), but it's not an official release goal or anything like that.

If you are too busy what do you think about an NMU?

Thanks

Bug#678063: gearmand: FTBFS on Debian GNU/Hurd - Unconditional use of PATH_MAX [patch attached]

2012-06-18 Thread Barry deFreese
Package: gearmand
Version: 0.32-2
Severity: important
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd
Tags: patch

Hi,

Currently gearmand fails to build on Debian GNU/Hurd due to an unconditional
use of PATH_MAX which
we do not define.

Attached is a patch for building on Hurd.

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Bug#669934: kdepim: korganizer cannot load calendar after adding a new contact in kontact

2012-06-18 Thread Stanley Schade
Hi,

I want to give some further information. I added a new user for testing
purposes (with a clean home directory) and could nevertheless reproduce
this bug (now using kdepim version 4:4.4.11.1+l10n-3). Furthermore I
figured out that the freebusyurls file is not created when no email
address is specified in the new entry in the integrated addressbook of
kontact.
