Not sure what that warning was. That bug report was done after my
machine was up for several days, maybe that had something to do with a
USB wifi adapter which used a non-free firmware or something. The new
bug report with a newly-booted dmesg didn't say that.

Odd.. I cannot reproduce this (as RAID5 reshaping to more devices always
starts reshaping once it becomes writable).

Thanks for writing. Your hardware is sufficiently different from
Roland's that I really want this as a separate bug. We can merge them
later if they turn out to have the same cause.

To save a round trip: when filing that new bug, please include the
portion of your kernel log describing this warning (or full "dmesg"
output from a normal boot, which would be even better) as an
attachment.

Hope that helps,

2012-07-15 Thread Gedalya
Package: src
Version: 3.2.21-3
Followup-For: Bug #680737

I think this is the same problem here.. using an HP dm4t-1200 laptop.
The backlight is set to zero brightness as soon as the kernel begins to load.
In my case I can set the brightness higher by simply using the appropriate fn
key combination, but until then everything looks black.

It looks to me like the following is the fix:

Thanks.

My excuse is that a syntax allowing Vcs-Git to refer to a particular
branch was considered a blocker for documenting the Vcs-* fields at
all.

Would you be broken-hearted if I asked you to file a new bug for the
other VCSs that also have weird syntaxes worth documenting?

Yeah, good catch --- the current text that tries to do that is
only the rationale, and it's better to say it somewhere normative.

How about this?

Bug#681741: libreoffice: LibreOffice user installation could not be processed etc.

2012-07-15 Thread Gedalya
Package: libreoffice
Version: 1:3.5.4-5
Severity: normal

When starting LibreOffice, either on a newly installed system or, at least in
one case, on a previously working but upgraded system, I get the following
message:

The application cannot be started.
LibreOffice user installation could not be processed due to missing access
rights. Please make sure that you have sufficient access rights for the
following location and restart LibreOffice:

/home//.config/libreoffice/3

It turns out ~/.config/libreoffice is for some reason owned by root:root. chown
-R to the user fixes the problem.

Sorry, I was bitten by a distutils bug as I made the mistake of
building the source tarball in squeeze.

Upstream version 0.7.4 fixes this and only this.

Why only document git and not the syntax of the other fields?

cvs: a identifier suiteable for cvs -d (i.e. usually starting with :pserver:),
followed by an optional module name (seperated by a space).

I think it might also make sense to explicitly request that the fields should
describe an anonymous checkout.

Could you please provide an example to reproduce the issue? It looks
like “jp” comes from your PO file, but I can't see it for sure from here.

That shouldn't be related. Please note that it is recommended to use
[po_directory] rather than [po4a_langs] and [po4a_paths]. See section
“Autodetection of the paths and languages” in po4a(1).

Bug#557609: icedove crashes when secon send attempt fails

2012-07-15 Thread Carsten Schoenert
Hello Dmitry,

I know it's a while ago you opened this bug.
In the between times several new icedove packages are builded. Did you
have this crashes too in this versions? Have you tried to use a fresh
clean userprofile for icedove? Or is this problem gone with the wind.

@Hramrach
You only wrote that you have some other error, wich kind of error? Did
this also happen with current versions? If so, can you please explain
what kind of errors.

Regards
Carsten

Dear po4a maintainers,

strangely, po4a inserts a lang="jp" attribute for Japanese translations,

there another place where I can look for a misconfiguration, or is it a bug

Ok, I expected that.

TBH I'm a bit at a loss here.

What happens if you add a line

application/pdf=evince.desktop

to the [Default Applications] section in
.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Could you also dump the environment when executing xdg-open.
I.e. add a call to "env" somewhere in /usr/bin/xdg-open and redirect
that to a file.

An strace of gvfs-open might be helpful, too.

So it seems we need two fixes here:
1/ nm-applet needs to reliably disable itself if gnome-shell is used
2/ gnome-shell needs to look at the right place for the authentication
dialogs.

Problem 2/ is most likely caused by Redhat distros using $libexecdir:
/usr/lib/gnome-shell → /usr/libexec and
/usr/lib/NetworkManager → /usr/libexec

For 2/ I've cloned and reassigned this bug and I'm marking them as
release critical, since we need to fix this for wheezy.

Thanks everyone for helping tracking this down.

Ok, nice to hear. (Nice to hear because it means we have a better
chance of fixing it.)

Could you try the 3.4.y kernel from experimental and see if that
produces the same symptoms (it probably will)? If it does, please
contact linux-wirel...@vger.kernel.org to get an explanation of the
symptoms, cc-ing ath5k-de...@lists.ath5k.org and either me or this bug
log so we can track the conversation. Be sure to mention:

 - exact steps to reproduce (how do you connect, etc), expected
result, actual result, and how the difference is unexpected
(something similar to the explanation you gave before should
   work fine for this)

 - which kernel versions you have tested and what happened with
   each

 - a link to http://bugs.debian.org/586383 for context

They should be able to say if this is a bug or an expected
behavior and what it means, and if it is a bug, they should be
able to say what a good next step for investigating in pursuit
of a fix would be.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Jonathan

I just started testing the 0.9.6-rc1 packages in experimental and I am
seeing this same behavior there as well. And only with gnome3, with the
fallback session the auth dialog comes up as usual.

The following workaround works for me:

cd /usr/lib/gnome-shell
ln -s ../NetworkManager/nm-openconnect-auth-dialog

and then restart gnome-shell or log out and log in. This seems to be
the only path where gnome-shell is looking for the auth-dialog
executable [1].

I'd still appreciate hearing your response, and I think you might find
that Chris similarly would like to find a reasonable solution to this
problem. Both of us (and others in this bug) just want to have a usable
Mumble without having to install an older version and put it on hold. I
think we're *all* not too far from common ground here. Also note that
we don't need to actually call on the TC if we can sort this out
ourselves; thus, I'd suggest that actually talking to each other seems
like the best way to resolve this.

A quick enumeration of possible solutions:

- Leave mumble out of testing and wheezy, keep it in either unstable or
experimental (as we would for any client-server software with an
unstable protocol that we can't support for the lifetime of a stable
release) with compatibility warnings in the description and
  NEWS.Debian.

- Let mumble migrate to testing and release with wheezy, with similar
compatibility warnings. Help upstream get a stable Opus-based version
released ASAP for others to use, and ask the stable release managers
very nicely about including that version in stable.

In both cases, someone interested in having a CELT-based version
available for compatibility could consider uploading one to a
repository for others to use. If a DD is interested, they could
potentially upload a mumble-celt to experimental. Either way, such a
package should have giant warnings about security issues.

The first approach has the advantage of not shipping an incompatible
version of Mumble to stable/testing users, but the disadvantage of
delaying the point at which stable users have a version with Opus
support. The second approach lets stable users have an Opus-based
version as soon as possible, but meanwhile users of stable and testing
will have a version that won't actually communicate with anyone other
than Debian users.

Assuming that CELT 0.7.1 really does have unfixable security issues, it
doesn't seem like a reasonable alternative to upload a version that
re-enables it. On the other hand, not knowing the details of those
issues, I don't see an obvious reason why the issues can't just be
fixed as they arise.

Any other alternatives, or are those the choices we're stuck with?

- Josh Triplett

The upstream bug report has testcases that are fixed by GCC 4.7.1, yet
this problem is still triggered by bsd_mouse.c (and only with -O2)
unless the workaround is used.

Both testcases still fail on GCC 4.6.3; one of them only fails if
compiled with -O2, and the other only with -O3. So it seems to depend
what the source gets optimised into.

Hi Boris,
the [1] patch is not really useful. It's removing symlinks but it's
not harmful to follow them in this case. It's not a
recursive/iterative function so it's harmless. It shouldn't be
applied.
the [2] patch, on one part is fixing the bug like i did, on the other
it's setting the first entry in the combo box for no apparent
reason...

I'd suggest you to go through KDE to improve the application instead
of applying patches to your package. It might improve the package
sooner, but review is important and I prefer to be responsible myself
of the software I maintain.

I have this dim recollection of deferring fair eviction, but can't find
any record of that.

I think it starts with this:

commit be54bbcaee8559cc412b5e4abc8eb33388b083e0
Author: Daniel Vetter
Date: Fri Jun 17 10:04:20 2011 -0500

drm: implement helper functions for scanning lru list

which changes a DRM structure that is driver-allocated.

I'll see if I can find a way to apply this without breaking any OOT DRM
drivers. But are there any? The most popular OOT GPU drivers, fglrx
and nvidia, don't use DRM. VMware or VirtualBox guest GPU drivers
might.

Ben.

/proc is mounted but it doesn't behave like outside, at least about
/proc/self/exe. Same about querying that kernel param.
My configuration is a fresh sbuild install as you can see below, with
one sid chroot. Easy to reproduce.

This has been addressed by the amd64-microcode (>= 1) and intel-microcode
(>= 1) uploads, currently in unstable.

microcode.ctl is going to be deprecated (unless upstream decides to change
it to do something like what iucode-tool does).

cpu-upgrade scenarios are not handled automatically by default.

Addressed by the new intel-microcode/amd64-microcode and /etc/modules
(really!), doesn't require an initscript anymore.

The answer is "no".

Bug#681735: override: intel-microcode:non-free/admin/standard

2012-07-15 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal
Tags: override

intel-microcode provides updated microcode to Intel processors, and
should ideally be installed by default on every system with an Intel
processor. Unfortunately, it is non-free, but its priority should still
reflect the fact that it should be installed by default in a system.

The package doesn't cause any issues on systems without an Intel
processor, and can be co-installed with the amd64-microcode package.

Bug#658139: Using FreeDesktop MIME entries directly in mime-support (Re: Fixing the mime horror ini Debian).

2012-07-15 Thread Charles Plessy
Hello everybody,

http://bugs.debian.org/497779 contains a patch for the mime-support package to
solve this problem for every package that provides a .desktop file but no
mailcap entry. The mime-support package has been orphaned last week.

Wouldn't one of the following solutions be acceptable for you ?

 - Add the function to mime-support in Wheezy to update /etc/mailcap using
the FreeDesktop menu entry files in /usr/share/applications via dpkg
   triggers.

 - Do this in Sid, and add back the MIME entries in evince in Wheezy as a
   temporary compromise.

If nobody else volunteers, I propose to start a maintenance group for the
mime-support package, that I would store in a Git repository on Alioth's
collab-maint group.

My background in MIME support is that I maintain packages that declare MIME
types, I keep track of MIME support in the Policy
(http://bugs.debian.org/661816),
and I wrote much of the MimeTypesSupport page on the Debian wiki
(http://wiki.debian.org/MimeTypesSupport).

Have a nice day,

I noticed later that the new empty/dummy ia32-libs is not in wheezy, so
that makes this bug much less urgent than I had thought.

Anyway, I'll see if I can find time to do an NMU; if not, go ahead of
course.

Hi,

The items which replaced HAL are Udev, Upower, Udisks...
(ie: you can have a look here : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL) It is
most
important to have them all installed in all distributions. (Unless some use
other
mechanisms I may not be aware of, but in this case which ones ?)

I also think Upower really has to be added in a strategic package so not to
miss it, and
if possible not as a recommend but as compulsory.

Regards,
Mélodie

So a simple binNMU won't help because it wouldn't have a tight enough
dependency and therefore could transition before python2.7, leaving a
broken Vim in Wheezy.

Shall I make a sourceful upload of Vim with a libpython2.7 (>= 2.7.3-2)
Depends and request it be unblocked or is there another way we should
solve this?

Bug#681732: dunst package does not have "Provides: notification-daemon" set.

2012-07-15 Thread Andrew Hout
Package: dunst
Version: 0.2.0-1
Severity: important

The dunst package does not have
"Provides: notification-daemon"
set.

Other notification daemons like notify-osd have this set so they meet the
dependency requriements of packages that check for a notification-daemon.

Beacause this is not set in the dunst package dunst cannot be used to replace
another notification-daemon if the user has a package that depends on
notification-daemon installed.

In my case the packages with that caused this were

mail-notification
mail-notification-evolution

I encountered no problems after making my own dunst package with "Provides:
notification-daemon" set.

Hi,

Currently libomxil-bellagio fails to build on Debian GNU/Hurd and kfreeBSD.

Attached is a patch for building that works on both. Right now it just
disables a couple of
debugging outputs that use Linux specific syscalls. It would be better to find
a more portable
solution. On thought would be to use pthread_self() but that isn't guaranteed
to return an integer.

Thank you,

Bug#681636: Looks like this bug is invalid

2012-07-15 Thread Diederik de Haas
Hi,

I just got an updated pkg (binutils, version 2.22-7.1) on my sid box, but it
didn't show up on my server, which has Default-Release "testing".
The only way to get that version installed on my server was by
"apt-get/aptitude
install binutils -t sid".
Don't know why "apt-get dist-upgrade" or "aptitude full-upgrade" didn't upgrade
the package though.

So it looks like this bug report is invalid.
If I can't reproduce this bug in the coming week, I'll close it myself.
If someone else (f.e. maintainers) already know it is invalid they can close
this bug too of course ;-)

Cheers,
  Diederik

Which utilities? Do you mean that "lspci" did not list your card? Is
that result reproducible? If so, please attach full "dmesg" output
from booting that kernel and running lspci.

Bug#681729: unblock: transmission/2.52-2

2012-07-15 Thread Leo 'costela' Antunes
Package: release.debian.org

Please unblock package transmission

The new version includes a fix backported from the version in
experimental. The bug[0] still hasn't been reported in Debian, but
I'm confident it would affect many users during the life-time of
wheezy. And since the backported patch[1] is pretty straightforward,
I believe it's worth unblocking at this early freeze-stage.

unblock transmission/2.52-2

Description : An Introduction to GCC by Brian J. Gough

This manual provides a tutorial introduction to the GNU C and C++
 compilers, gcc and g++.
 .
Many books teach the C and C++ languages, this book explains how to use
the compiler itself. Based on years of observation of questions posted
on mailing lists, it guides the reader straight to the important options
 of GCC!
 .
Concisely written, with numerous easy-to-follow "Hello World" examples.
 .
Now with extensive new sections on error messages, portability and
 floating point arithmetic!
 .
Features a special foreword by Richard M. Stallman, principal developer
of GCC and founder of the GNU Project.
 .
The content of this Debian packaged version has some minor adjustments to
match learning experiences under the Debian environment.

This is currently under GFDL-1.2+ with with no Invariant Sections, but with
the explicit Front-Cover Texts, and with the explicit Back-Cover Texts.

Thus I am planning upload to non-free/doc unnless I hear differently.

Format will be:
 * info
 * html
 * PDF (for single sided printing. No blank pages inserted.)

Indeed, when trying on the command line it works after I do an explicit
apt-get update.

I'm confused why I'm getting the error mail from unattended-upgrades
though. I would think that apt-get update is ran before that.

I'll send an update if the error shows up again.

I agree. The situation with openjpeg is far from ideal. I was
working on a lot of multiarch changes supporting wine, and this one
got blocked for a while by people expecting the 1.5 transition to
happen. Then the release team made the call on that a couple days
before the freeze, at that point those opposing stopped opposing, and
so I finally uploaded the multiarch nmu again to 1.3 but that was
unfortunately late (two days after the freeze).

You've probably already seen all the details of those discussions in
#675773 and #669348.

Fortunately the multiarch conversion for this package was very
straightforward and not very invasive, but I can understand your
alternative perspective. We are still in the early freeze where
riskier changes are allowable, aren't we?

I apologize for missing that. You are quite correct, that should have
been bumped to 9 as well. I've just uploaded 1.3+dfsg-4.5 with that
change.

Best wishes,
Mike

I assume you mean this patch:

so I'll apply that.

It won't be accepted into a 2.6.32.y release unless someone can explain
how it was fixed upstream (ideally, which commit(s) fixed it).

Well, as I said, it's working now. When I was first trying to figure out the
problem, I started by replying to bug 604613 because it seemed to be
the same symptoms I was having with my system: it had worked with
Lenny, then was unable to get an IP address with the Squeeze kernel.
But sometime between my install of Squeeze and the attempt to use the
backported kernel, it was resolved. Since you say the ath5k drivers have
not been updated I can only presume that something else was wrong,
and it was fixed in one of the updates related to or accompanying the
wicd security fix. Since that bug is no longer occurring for me, I don't
know how I can contribute anything more to this particular bug discussion.

The backported kernel is a completely different problem, which I don't
have to deal with if I don't need that kernel. :D Yes, it did boot in "recovery"
mode on my system. But it apparently did not boot correctly, because the
wifi card was not visible to the command line interface utilities. Even worse,
simply restarting and booting to the current Squeeze kernel was not enough
to fix whatever it did wrong with the hardware on boot. The graphical desktop
could not load until I did a hard shutdown and then restart. Whether this is
specific to GDM or perhaps would also happen with KDM I don't know. But
some registers were altered or some bit set somewhere that caused major
problems even when the backported kernel itself was no longer in memory.

Admittedly, when Wheezy becomes the stable release it will BE a problem
if this has not been fixed. But I don't know what I can do to test this weird
malfunction. It seems to be a a very low hardware level. Would there be
some sort of debugging utility that could read all the hardware registers and
log the results? Is anyone else reporting a problem like this with the Wheezy
kernel? Either in its backported form or in its "native" setting as part of the
Wheezy system?

Is there a point in reporting non official packages?

Package: popularity-contest

Currently, the popcon script on user computer sends the list of all
installed packages.
However, it would the nice to have a configurable option to limit it
to the official package because today, there is only two choices if
the user have sensitive packages:

 - refuse popcon to not publish them
 - accept popcon and be unpleased because it's published.

If they can choose what they publish: {all | only official packages | none}
it could fit more needs.
(And perhaps to have more contributors because it could fit the users
using currently the first choice?)

Waiting after the freeze has happened to introduce such changes really
isn't appreciated, especially when you get them wrong, and when
changelog entries absolutely don't describe the actual changes
(1.3+dfsg-4.2 and 1.3+dfsg-4.3 notably).

That doesn't match:
 2. changes for release goals, if they are not invasive;

in: http://release.debian.org/wheezy/freeze_policy.html

Also, debhelper (>= 5) certainly isn't sufficient for those changes, is
it?

Other release team members may have a different opinion, but that's a no
for me. One way to go from here is reverting the multiarch changes so
that you get the security fix in. Another way would be t-p-u, but that
means close to no testing, which isn't helpful.

KiBi.

Bug#681599: vim/python2.7: symbol lookup error: vim: undefined symbol: init_hashlib

2012-07-15 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Jakub Wilk , 2012-07-15, 15:07:
this is most likely caused by building _hashlib as an extension,
not a builtin anymore, to address #680930. rebuilding vim should
fix it.

Indeed, rebuild fixed the problem for me.

However, in comparison to version in testing (2.7.3~rc2-2.1),
libpython2.7 not only removed two symbols (init_hashlib, init_ssl) but
also added one (init_heapq). This new symbol doesn't have correct
dependency declared in the symbols file. As a consequence, if you
rebuild vim in unstable, and then run it against libpython2.7 from
testing, you get this:

$ LD_BIND_NOW=1 vim
vim: symbol lookup error: vim: undefined symbol: init_heapq

I'll check if other source packages are affected later.

I checked all i386 binaries depending on libpython2.7:

- There are no other users of init_hashlib.

- ntop uses init_ssl. However, the intention was to use this one:

$ readelf -s /usr/lib/ntop/libntopreport.so | grep -w init_ssl
   446: 00046480 1804 FUNCGLOBAL DEFAULT 12 init_ssl

So if libpython2.7 dropping init_ssl makes any difference for ntop, then
it should rather fix things than break them.

So what's missing here, linprocfs inside the chroot? Or is there
something additional that needs setting up?

What's the output of "schroot -i -c $chroot" for the build chroot?

So you can accomplish the /etc/resolv.conf part today, by redefining the
make_resolv_conf() function in a custom hook in
/etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/ You could make the function be a total
no-op, and then you have what you want there.

As for default gateway behaviour, that's a bit more difficult today. It is
my longer term vision for /sbin/dhclient-script to be a large collection of
shell functions that can be user-overridden by way of hooks.

This package has not been updated in 3 years, so it is a prime
candidate for nmu'ing. In fact, it's perfectly appropriate to nmu
without advance permission of the maintainer in general.

If you don't get around to the nmu in the next couple days, I'll go
ahead and do it.

Best wishes,
Mike

Bug#681410: false postives for arch-dependent-file-not-in-arch-specific-directory diagnose

2012-07-15 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Russ Allbery , 2012-07-15, 11:56:

I noticed a lot of false positives:

E: libpython3.3-dev:
arch-dependent-file-not-in-arch-specific-directory
usr/lib/python3.3/config-3.3m-x86_64-linux-gnu/libpython3.3m-pic.a

Move it to /usr/lib//python3.3/config-/ and
add a symlink if really needed. This will make lintian happy.

So maybe better check if the path either contains the multiarch name
or the debian architecture name.
I think we should rather remove existing exceptions (for ruby and
openjdk, after they are fixed) than to add more.

What (besides minor improvements in ease of maintenance of Lintian)
would be gained from doing so? It looks to me like this is an
arch-qualified path, so it satisfies the requirements of multiarch, and
the only issue is that Lintian has to be slightly more complex to
detect that.

I'm not very active at the moment, so weigh my opinion accordingly, but
I always tried to apply the general principle that if Lintian *could*
figure out the right thing to do, fixing Lintian rather than changing
packages just to make life easier for Lintian is the right approach
unless the package behavior introduces an actual bug or Policy
violation. If people have do things just to make Lintian happy, it
discourages people from using Lintian and paying attention to it.

Fair enough.

The attached is a patch to whitelist all uses of multiarch triplet
within paths.

I didn't whitelist Debian architecture names, because they are too
generic (e.g. "i386" is CPU name for various other architectures that
are != i386). If someone thinks whitelisting them is a good idea,
they'll have to write the code themselves. :P

(I still think that maintainers should use /usr/lib///,
which is blessed by the Policy, wherever possible instead of inventing
their own schemas.)

Bug#681716: automatic setup using dbconfig-common / debconf

2012-07-15 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: sogo
Version: 1.3.16-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

it would be great if the sogo package provided a better out-of-the box
experience. This could include
- setting up the mysql / postgresql database (using dbconfig-common)
- query/determine the ldap configuration. populating the ldap directory
with the necessary structure if not existent.
- query/determine the imap / smtp configuration and setup up sogo.conf
  accordingly.
- include a README.Debian with further information regarding the steps
needed to get sogo running. This could include links to external
  documentation.

Hi Christine,

Maybe you could ask the release team to remove that package from

Actually, what I think would be useful first, is to have WebIDDelegatedAuth [0]
packaged first.

It is a scaled down version of libAuthentication, that just deals with the
delegated authentication needs, which is already enough for quite a few use
cases of WebID use.

Note that some unofficial packaging sources are available in upstream git tree.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, the patch didn't work as expected for two reasons:
* PCRE engine is used when arm* architecture is not found, we wanted
the other way round.
* perl = TRUE option has to be passed to sub() function, not grep() one.

I'm attaching a patch which should work now.

This should be handled by rsyslogd. Is the content of /var/log/dmesg
not present in the standard system logs such as /var/log/kern.log?
This was removed because it was redundant, duplicating existing
functionality. Is this not the case for your system?

Avoiding a new transition at this point would be preferable I'm afraid.
linbox looks unmaintained, fflas-ffpack has only been in the archive
since the day before freeze and givaro was unmaintained until a few

I've added the relevant removal hints; thanks for your work on the

2012-07-15 Thread james
Package: smokeping
Version: 2.6.8-1

Severity: normal

Release: Unstable

The chart data seem to be displayed "off-by-one", with the most recent 5min
measurement shown covering the earlier 10min to earlier 5min time period, and
with the most recent time period shown blank, when using 5min updates. The
data is shown 5min earlier than the actual time.

This is especially a problem when setting-up smokeping "targets" for the first
time and wondering if new configuration is correct and working, where it may
appear that no measurement was made or recorded for the current time period.

This patch has two issues:
- it is not compatible with the poppler version (0.18.x) currently in
  Debian
- the format for the parameters in the error string is wrong
(in >= 0.20, it is not printf-like but follows the GooString::format()
  syntax)

I just reported upstream the issue (it was not reported), proposing a
patch which would switch the call to error() to a simplier fprintf().
This avoids issues if error() changes again in the future, and it is
compatible with any poppler version.

Thanks,
