Bug#681199: [ftpmas...@ftp-master.debian.org: libgtkdatabox_0.9.1.3-1_amd64.changes ACCEPTED into experimental, experimental]

2012-09-01 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Daniele,

it took a bit longish that ftpmaster accepted latest libgtkdatabox due
to the freeze. Would you like to check gtkdataboxmm against this and
are you fine with an upload to experimental?

Kind regards

Andreas.

numerical data
Closes: 640004
Changes:
 libgtkdatabox (1:0.9.1.3-1) experimental; urgency=low
 .
   * Upload to experimental because of freeze
   * New upstream version
  - Refreshed remaining patches
  - Deleted 02_deprecated_GTK.patch which was applied upstream
   * Incorporated patch from Ubuntu version below
 Closes: #640004
   * debian/README.source: removed because redundant
   * debian/control:
  - Standards-Version: 3.9.3
  - Updated versioned package names
  - Fixed Vcs fields
  - Dropped Build-Depends cdbs, quilt
  - Do not repeat Section field in binary packages if not
required by d-shlibs
   * debhelper 9 (control+compat)
   * debian/rules:
  - cdbs -> dh
  - enable building twice in a row by creating a copy of original
docs/reference which differs drastically from the doc created
in the build process
  - implement some dh_install, dh_link calls directly in rules
instead of helper files to reduce the number of cases where
you need to change the package name due to version number
changes
   * libgtkdatabox-0.9.1-3.lintian-overrides: Use override because the
symlink check seems to be a false positive here

I assume you would be interested to care about this - if not just tell
me and I'll upload.

Bug#685787: devscripts: Enabling uscan to simply remove files from upstream source

I personally have no idea how release team will handle this.

While this would also have been a possibility I now followed previous
advise and use

  git://git.debian.org/git/users/tille/devscripts.git

While I agree that having such test cases would be nice I admit that I
do not feel fit for this and would need help. I'm testing my changes
for uscan by migrating Debian Med teams get-orig-source scripts to the
files-excluded method and verify that the result will remain the same
(or even more reasonable if the get-orig-script was not optimal.)

Please safely assume that my Perl foo is below yours. :-)

Thanks for the hint, but I hope for the help of others to follow this
advise.

Whee, another round of building the thing on i386 and amd64 and then
merging changelogs. ;)

No problem. I'll do that sometime this weekend (it's a holiday weekend in
the US) and request another unblock.

that our beloved release team will soon start to be grumpy about the
l10n folks..:-)

Seriously, an immediate upload would allow me to focus attention on

Hello everyone,

thank you for your work on the translation of isdnutils. Your changes
have been commited and your authorship noted.

I'm not sure if this is standard procedure or not, but it seems
wasteful to me to open a separate ticket for every language. Just
attach your updated po files to bug 686180. I would appreciate a
courtesy copy so that I will be aware of your work but I will look
through said ticket once more before making the upload as well. Some
of you have commited straight to git at
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/isdnutils.git and
that is fine also if you have alioth commit rights.

Regards

Rolf

Bug#686481: debian-reference instructs users on how to install non-free software

2012-09-01 Thread SirGrant
Package: debian-reference
Version: 2.46
User: trisq...@trisquel.info
Usertags: libreplanet, trisquel

I am reporting this bug because Stefano Zacchiroli has called for a
"free-ness assessment" [2]. It is up to the package maintainer on how to
proceed.

*Summary:* Package
debian-referenceadvises
the user that non-free software is a solution to problems.

*Versions Used:*

   - Operating System: Trisquel 5.5
   - Package: debian-reference
(2.46)

*Steps to reproduce:*

(From the terminal)

   - sudo apt-get install debian-reference
   - debian-reference

(Program opens documentation in browser)

   - Click: HTML (multi files)
   - Click: 9.7.8. Non-free hardware drivers

(Documentation states:)

   - "Although most of hardware drivers are available as free software and
as a part of the Debian system, you may need to load some non-free external
drivers to support some hardwares, such as Winmodem, on your system."
   - ect.

Bug#686478: systemsettings: fails to initialize multiple monitor setup

2012-09-01 Thread Carlo Wood
Package: systemsettings
Version: 4:4.8.4-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?
Click on the K-menu --> System Settings --> Display and Monitor
configure a dual head (I'm using nvidia twinview setup if that is
relevant) where the last alphabetically ordered device is Left of
the first alphabetically ordered device. For example, DVI-I-3
Left Of DVI-I-2. Set The latter (DVI-I-2) as Primary output.
   Click Apply, confirm, click Save as Default and save as default;
   click on OK. Reboot.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
A Cloned view (both monitors show the same thing).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
   What I configured.

   * Please help!
The above configuration leads to a line in
   ~/.kde/share/config/krandrrc under [Display]:
   StartupCommands=xrandr --output DVI-I-2 --pos 1680x0 --mode 1680x1050
--refresh 60.0\nxrandr --output DVI-I-3 --pos 0x0 --mode 1680x1050 --refresh
60.0\nxrandr --output DVI-I-2 --primary
which is executed as three commands in that order after logging in
into KDE. The first of those commands fails (because?).
What DOES work is putting the command with the lowest X-value first.
Thus, do not write out the commands in the alphabetical order of
device name, but write them out left to right. That is, the following
   line gives the desired result:
   StartupCommands=xrandr --output DVI-I-3 --pos 0x0 --mode 1680x1050 --refresh
60.0\nxrandr --output DVI-I-2 --pos 1680x0 --mode 1680x1050 --refresh
60.0\nxrandr --output DVI-I-2 --primary

Bug#686473: gnuplot-mode: no message on mode start

Package: gnuplot-mode
Version: 1:0.6.0-8
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/gnuplot-mode/gnuplot.el

It'd be good if "M-x gnuplot-mode" didn't display it's version number
message. A find-file sometimes has other messages like read-only etc
and it's helpful if a mode starts up quietly so as not to lose those.
I see there's already keystroke bindings for the mode and program
versions if/when desired.

Bug#495101: xzgv: panning with the mouse does not work

2012-09-01 Thread Kevin Ryde
Michael Deegan writes:
>

The code seems to be slightly fighting gtk in the pointer motion bits.
I'd propose something like below which takes button press, motion,
release on the "viewport" widget, not the scrolledwindow or mainwin etc.
Normally it works much better to choose where a click should be active
and select, connect, etc in one place only.

This diff is a bit radical in how much it chops out :), but it's
supposed to be a simplification. I hope I haven't broken anything else
in the process. Better give it a try for a while.

It might be necessary to turn on the "ignore_drag" flag in the
shift-button or control-button press cases, so that dragging is not
active in those cases. Unless it's in fact desirable to have dragging
work if initiated by one of those too.

It would be nice if the DVD-1 iso image were just a bit smaller, so it would fit
onto a 4 GB USB flash drive.

I'm presonally interested in seeing this happen for PowerPC architecture,
but I'd even be happy if it only happened for the x86/amd64 architecure
if that's the best we can do in the Wheezy timeframe.

Ummm. We've been doing this for ages for amd64 and i386 so that
they'll work in isohybrid mode from USB. Have you tried to use one of
the current images?

I tried it with the PowerPC Wheezy Beta-1 DVD-1. Is that recent
enough? It claims to be 4.4 GB, the same size as the DVD-2 from the
same series.

Bug#678066: Proposal to simplify PowerPC CD/DVD boot options

2012-09-01 Thread Rick Thomas

Regardless, I'm trying to write a comprehensive set of notes on booting
Apple PowerMacs from USB drives, and it would be nice to have this part
fully documented.

Is there something I can tell people to do at the OF prompt that will
load and run the stage-one boot loader?

I was not able to figure out how to do it from OF. Apple machines are
looking for the blessed file if 'C' key is held pressed during the
machine start-up. It is the "official" manufacturer prescribed way to
boot a Mac from a CD/DVD.

I tried
boot usb0/disk@1:2.\\:tbxi

This appears to load the stage-one boot loader, but unfortunately, the
stage-one is apparently looking for a physical CD and gives up when it
doesn't find one. I suppose I could change the "cd" devalias to point
to the USB stick, but that might have unknown ramifications later on
that would be messy when you want to boot from the physical CD-ROM.

I guess I'll just warn folks that they need to use "install32" if they
don't have a G5 machine.

Enjoy!

Rick

PS: As you say, what I'm trying to do is only partially supported by
Apple, and doing unsupported stuff may have unpredictable results. It's
probably best to leave well-enough alone.

Ummm. We've been doing this for ages for amd64 and i386 so that
they'll work in isohybrid mode from USB. Have you tried to use one of
the current images?

Bug#685865: Upgarding STILL..!! doesn't work, init script can't start/stop server...

2012-09-01 Thread André Verwijs

 Thank you for reply..

I'm not sure witch steps Synaptic or "gpk-application" takes to
install or upgrade a package.
in my case i have "update-notifier" installed, witch executes
"update-manager" package witch shows
witch updates there are and install them, if you choose to...

but whether you use Synaptic or "gpk-application" or apt within a
terminal, its usually done with root permissions,
or else you cant install/upgrade packages. So in theory you should
have permissions to install/upgrade

so the question is, why does all these packages have a problem with
starting or stopping MySQL-server?
on the other hand the MySQL script is still looking for
“mysqladmin” witch is replaced by MySQL-workbench..

--

but I don’t think this is the reason why the installation/upgrade
packages have a problem to start/stop MySQL-server, reporting it anyway...

I don’t have any other log files or clues to narrow down the bug,
maybe other users have thoughts on how to solve it

It would be nice if the DVD-1 iso image were just a bit smaller, so it would fit
onto a 4 GB USB flash drive.

I'm presonally interested in seeing this happen for PowerPC architecture,
but I'd even be happy if it only happened for the x86/amd64 architecure
if that's the best we can do in the Wheezy timeframe.

Bug#686470: libssl1.0.0: uses SHA256 instead of SHA384 for 384-bit EC key

2012-09-01 Thread brian m. carlson
Package: libssl1.0.0
Version: 1.0.1c-4
Severity: important

I am running postfix on a sid machine (using OpenSSL) and I have set up
both RSA and EC keys. The EC key in question is using a 384-bit curve
(secp384r1). Logically, the appropriate algorithm to use in this case
is SHA-384, and this is what libgnutls28 expects. However, OpenSSL
tries to use SHA-256, which GnuTLS doesn't like. This causes the
connection to be aborted.

I've read the relevant specs and they don't absolutely require that
SHA-384 or SHA-512 be used (there is no MUST), but if a 384-bit key is
being used for ECDSA, SHA-384 is the logical choice if the client
supports it. I noticed this using both gnutls-cli as a client and
Debian's mutt package (linked against libgnutls28 instead of the
default).

GnuTLS is going to work around this, but I expect this will cause other
interoperability concerns. This also prevents Suite B compatibility out
of the box. I marked this bug as important because it means that GnuTLS
and OpenSSL will not interoperate properly using ECDSA.

A log of the behavior using gnutls-cli is available at
.

The current changes in our git repository fix two bugs and I like to get
these fixes into wheezy. The new script origtargz was also added and I
dunno if this scripts prevents us from getting the fixes into wheezy.
Maybe we should move origtargz into an experimental branch.

You could push your uscan changes into an 'experimental' branch in our
git repository if you want.

Before merging your changes into the master branch after the release of
wheezy, I like to see test cases to demonstrate the correct functioning.
Adding test cases is extra work in the beginning, but will pay off
later. devscripts comes with an growing test suite in tests/. The test
suite uses shunit2.

There is currently one test for uscan, but this is an online test. It
would be great if uscan could be modified to work locally for the tests.
This requires more Perl foo than I currently have.

You might want to look an DPU [1]. It is a test framework for Debian
tools and might be useful for us.

It's libtool, not Autoconf, that calls ldconfig, so I imagine
that the issue that you see is related to libtool. Therefore,

Package: gnuplot-mode

As an idea for a feature, it'd be good if 50gnuplot-mode.el arranged to
have the example files from the gnuplot-doc package open in
gnuplot-mode. Eg. /usr/share/doc/gnuplot-doc/examples/simple.dem

I've been using the following line which could go with the other
auto-mode-alist bits in 50gnuplot-mode.el

  (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist
   '("gnuplot-doc/examples/.*\\.dem\\'" . gnuplot-mode))

I don't think there's any need for a full "/usr/share/doc" in the

It seems jscoverage 0.3.1-1 currently in testing (and Squeeze) also
shipped an embedded code copy of libmozjs, so it may be sensible to
actually remove it from testing as suggested two years ago, and maybe
from Squeeze too.

You are right. I C&P the description from the source code [1].
I will rephrase the package description as:

This can be particularly useful when you want to track upstream Illumos
(or any other OpenSolaris fork) development closely and don't want the
overhead of maintaining a large patch which converts Solaris primitives
 to Linux primitives.

This is true, the latest release of the ZFS source code is the zpool
version 28. After Oracle took over Sun, they turned Solaris into a
closed-source operating system effectively killing OpenSolaris.

However, several open source projects (OpenIndiana and Illumos) forked
OpenSolaris and continued its development in parallel. Also FreeBSD
added official support for ZFS on their Kernel.

So, while is true that possibly we can't expect Oracle supporting
further development for the open-source ZFS, we can (and should) expect
that this development effort continues in the open backed by the several
open source efforts behind this (zfsonlinux, freebsd, illumos,
openindiana, smartos, nexenta ...). There is already a working group
composed by some of the former communities working on further
development of the open source version of ZFS [1]

About the ZFS specifications for the Oracle's zpool greater than 28, I
don't know if they made this documents public (probably they didn't)

Anyway this ZFS working group is developing the open source ZFS version
independently from Oracle, so I guess (not sure about this) that the
last ZFS version compatible between all the ZFS ports and Oracle/Solaris
ZFS will be zfs=5,zpool=28. The ZFS working group has already shared a
proposal for allocating zfs/zpool version numbers that allows the
different parties to add features to ZFS independently without conflicts
between them [2]

For example, Illumos released a few months ago a new version of ZFS
(zpool=5000) which added support for "asynchronous destruction of ZFS
datasets" and "SPA versioning with zfs feature flags" [3], and the
FreeBSD folks are already merging this in their port [4]. Its expected
that the zfsonlinux project would also merge this changes on their port [5].

Also, ZFS in its current state (zfs=5 / zpool=28) is very stable and
more feature-wise than any of the other filesystems available for Linux.
Furthermore none of the features added from [29-33] is a killer feature,
for encryption we already have LUKS/dm-crypt on Linux (you can just
build a zfs volume on top of a LUKS/dm-crypt volume).

>
> What is the status on trademarks? Can we use the name "zfs"? For

>

We already have in the archives the following packages using the zfs name:

http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=zfs&searchon=names&suite=all§ion=all

So I don't see any problem there. If Oracle decide to enforce the zfs
trademark we simply can rename the package and problem solved.

Also, as I can see, Oracle not longer holds the ZFS trademark since they
abandoned the application for it [6]

> While the future of alternative zfs implementations does look gloom, I

I also think that can be useful, ZFS has many nice features that would
boost Linux and Debian possibilities.

When the exact affected versions are not known (such as when a security issue
is reported) it is best not to specify any version. That way it won't affect
the package's testing migration or anything.

Once determined, the not/affected versions can be marked approprietly.

Because current ruby-pgplot in Wheezy is 0.1.3-2, these three FTBFS fixed
in 0.1.3-{3,4,5}. I forget sent unblock request about them. Sorry for my
rudeness. The debdiff output I sent is between 0.1.3-2(in wheezy) and
0.1.3-6(in unstable)

Although there were no bug reports, these library(libX11, libpng.so)
needs in order to execute ruby scripts using ruby-pgplot. Thus this is
bug fix and not new feature. I am sorry whose contents which I wrote to
changelog were inaccurate.

This change is done in ruby-pgplot ver. 0.1.3-3. because of RD2 page
generation issue:
rdtool: rd2 generates broken layouted manpages
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=676154

The rdtool in Wheezy(0.6.34-4) can't output html/manpages correctly
under some situations. I'm upstream maintainer of rdtool, and these bug
is already fixed in upstream release. However this is not part of
Wheezy. Thus, some rdtool outputs (html/manpages) into debian/doc in
order to avoid another FTBFS in Wheezy. I know, this is workaround and
I'll fix them when rdtool package is updated.

Best Wishes,

I'll check the dpkg log tomorrow to find out exactly what happened, but
I should have been explicit: this was doing an apt-get upgrade, not
dist-upgrade - I recall that this is normally what's recommended by the
release notes during release upgrades, as a precursor to a dist-upgrade
(I'm part-way through the dist-upgrade now).

Bug#686467: qt4-perl: Does not provide libqtdeclarative4-perl

2012-09-01 Thread pasky
Package: qt4-perl
Version: 4.8.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

the source package does not provide many bindings, most notably
QtDeclarative4 which is apparently required for QML-based applications.
Also, looking at

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/perlqt

Ubuntu seems to provide many more bindings as well, perhaps it's worth
a thought porting them over?

You have two options here :
- if sigtest is not used by an essential part of asm4 (for instance, if
sigtest is only used for unit testing), you can choose to add a patch in your
asm4 package to disable usage of sigtest until it's available in Debian
- you can then choose to package sigtest, and yes, you will need to submit an
ITP (see [1])

Bug#683041: Info received (Bug#683041: Acknowledgement (graphviz: please mark Multi-arch: foreign))

2012-09-01 Thread David Claughton
Hi Shawn,

Thanks for your patch submission, sorry for the delay in responding to it.

Unfortunately I don't believe Multi-arch:Foreign is correct for graphviz
as this is intended to be used for arch:all support packages or packages
where it doesn't matter if its arch matches the one you are building
against. This is very much not the case for graphviz. See [1] for more
info.

However I have almost completed packaging the new upstream release
(2.28) and this includes Multiarch support. It just needs some proper
testing, in particular with regards to the -dev package and checking if
rdepends correctly build against it. I've not yet found the time to do
this, but you're welcome to give it a whirl if you wish. The code is
currently in the git archive at [2] which you can build with the
'git-buildpackage' utility.

Dear Maintainer,

Please find attached tty-clock.1, a manual page for tty-clock, written
in roff format. You can include it into your package by copying it to
the debian/ directory, and writing "debian/tty-clock.1" into the
debian/tty-clock.manpages file.

If you have any comments or if you want me to improve or correct
something, let me know, I would be happy to implement your suggestions.

Best regards,

Same for me. The system suddenly switched to SlowKeys while I didn't

Can you please specify what's the use case for not providing the

The version information suggests that only one of those actually affects
the package in testing; is that correct? (I'm not sure from looking at
the reports if the other bugs actually exist in testing or were
introduced by later fixes.)

Could you expand a little more on what this means, beyond the addition
of the build dependencies? It sounds a little "new feature"ish, which
isn't really what we'd like during a freeze.

Why are these in debian/ ? Their addition doesn't seem to be mentioned
in the changelog; the stanzas for two of the FTBFS are unhelpfully
undetailed, which makes it difficult to tie them up with the changes.

Andre,
Also now I look at it #484671 (a bug against synaptic) looks very
similar. And it occurs to me also that insufficient permissions in your
sudoers file could explain the failure to stop the mysql server if you
were trying to use any sort of sudo.

Andre,
I've finally managed to read through the bug report after having a
difficult week or two. I would like to begin by reconstructing what
happened with your upgrade as indicated by term.log.

1.) From line 1180 to 1219 we see mysql-5.5 being unpacked
2.) From line 1264 to 1286 the actual installation happened and was
successful.
3.) From line 1332 it starts to purge mysql-server-5.5. (Why it should
do that is I think the principle mystery. And why a purge and not a remove?)
4.) Consequently at line 1333 it tries to stop the server. Unfortunately
it fails. This could be a bug but since I don't understand why it is
being removed in the first place I don't see it as an important one.
5.) At line 1339 it tries to start the server even though the stop
process clearly returned a failure and also even though it is apparently
trying to remove the package.
6.) At line 1340 it tries to remove mysql-workbench presumably because
it has decided to remove mysql.
7.) At line 1342 we get the glorious declaration "dpkg:
mysql-client-5.5: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you
requested:"
8.) At line 1345 it removes mysql-client-5.5.
9.) At line 1357 it reinstalls mysql-client-5.5.
10.) At line 1383 it tries again to install mysql-server-5.5. So first
of all it tries again to stop the server which again fails.
11.) From line 1393 it starts to get in a real mess. There is already a
mysqld process running which has a lock on the ./ibdata files and so on.
12.) By line 1717 the mysqld process has given up trying to register the
InnoDB engine. So now it becomes clear that the innodb comments are
symptons and not the root cause.

So it strongly seems to me that the questions that first need to be
answered are what did your package manager software think it was doing?
Until someone can demonstrate this problem using just apt or at least
explain why it tried to remove the mysql software after and as part of
an upgrade I am downgrading and marking it "will not fix". I await
further information.

Bug#686461: libusb: Future plans for libusb-0.1

2012-09-01 Thread Bob Bib
Source: libusb
Source-Version: 2:0.1.12-20
Severity: wishlist
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

the latest upstream version of libusb-0.1 is 0.1.12 (released in March 2006);

to make the legacy applications work with the current libusb-1.0,
a compatibilty layer package called libusb-compat-0.1 has been released on the
libusb upstream site;

meanwhile, Debian has switched from libusb-1.0 (http://www.libusb.org/) to its
fork called libusbx (http://libusbx.org/).

What are the future plans for the legacy libusb-0.1 library support in Debian?

If packaged properly, I am sure many people will find this useful.

The missing revisions / functionality are:

29 RAID-Z/mirror hybrid allocator.
30 ZFS encryption.
31 improved 'zfs list' performance.
32 One MB block support
33 Improved share support

I do have (personal?!) concerns about the ZFS future. After the zpool
version 28, no more source code was release by oracle (please correct
me if I am wrong). Are the specs released for the later zpool
versions? As it is now, all implementations are incomplete in
comparison with Oracle's implementation. And if no specs are
available, the open source / linux implementations are going to become
more and more incomplete in the future.

What is the status on trademarks? Can we use the name "zfs"? For
example, drdb trademark is actively being enforced.

While the future of alternative zfs implementations does look gloom, I
do think zfs (-like) implementations would be useful on linux and in
debian.

Regards,

Dmitrijs.

Oh, wait, no, I misread that. It's the userspace part that it's building,
and it's missing the normal asm/errno.h in
/usr/include/i386-linux-gnu/asm/errno.h. This is almost certainly
something on your local system; I suspect that compiling a simple program
like:

#include
#include

int main(void) { printf("hello\n"); return 0 }

would also fail.

Do you have a recent enough compiler to have multiarch support? I wonder
if what happened was that libc6-dev was upgraded but the compiler wasn't,
and dkms ran with a compiler that doesn't understand the multiarch include
paths. There's a Breaks in libc6-dev that tries to prevent this from
happening, but during a dist-upgrade, sometimes orderings get confused.
I'm not sure if dkms ensures that the compiler is fully configured before
kicking off its postinst. At a glance, it *looks* like it should, but
sometimes those dependencies get confusing.

The chain *should* be:

openafs-modules-dkms -> dkms -> gcc -> gcc-4.7

and libc6-dev Breaks old versions of all gcc-* packages earlier than
gcc-4.7 (4.7 always had multiarch support), so that *should* force either
gcc to be upgraded to point to gcc-4.7 or an earlier gcc-* package to be
upgraded to have multiarch support before dkms is considered configured,
and openafs-modules-dkms should not be willing to run its postinst until
dkms is fully configured

I'm very confused, since I've been using openafs-dkms on wheezy for quite
some time and have never seen any problem like this. It builds fine with
the current source and the current kernel. I *think* this is something
specific to your local machine, although I'm not sure what. Could you be
missing the complete set of linux-header packages, perhaps?

That file is provided by linux-headers--common:

./linux-headers-3.2.0-3-common/arch/x86/include/asm/errno.h
./linux-headers-3.2.0-3-common/include/linux/errno.h
./linux-headers-3.2.0-3-common/include/asm-generic/errno.h

The error is consistent with a missing -I flag that doesn't pick up the
arch/x86/include directory, but I don't know what would cause that.

The user space utilities are not linked against any GPL library so there
isn't any license problem distributing them in binary form.

The only external dependencies for the user-space utilities are:
libselinux1, zlib1g, and of course libc6.

Hello Peter,
thanks fo searching the bugreport on the mozilla bugtracker.
Yes, this is long ago this behavior is reported for the first time,
but unfortunately this is nothing unusual on mozilla bugs. There are
some other bugs opened for over ten years.

Maybe Mozilla is working on it in future versions of FF/TB. For version
16 and 17 are big reworks for the memory managment announced.

Wikipedia has a nice table comparing the different ports of ZFS [1]
According to it, both the FreeBSD port and this Native Linux port (LLNL)
are based on zpool version 28, for which the relevant changelog is also
detailed on Wikipedia [2].

For the Linux port, the ZFS Posix Layer (ZPL) is available from version
0.6.0-rc1 and is expected to be completely stabilized for version 0.6.0 [3]

These are changes that are quite large. I'm willing to unblock them, though, as
they work much better / more reliable than microcode.ctl. The only thing left
to solve, from my point of view, is dropping the breaks on microcode.ctl and
the upload of a transitional package replacing it.

Just to update the status here, given that a private conversation with hmh
happened more or less accidentially.

Kind regards

Ah! Yes. I understand your point now. However, this does work and is
tested, as Jonathan pointed out.

I can pull out just this part of the language if we need to (it's only a
rephrasing of language that's already there, not new language, but I do
pull out the footnote saying that it doesn't work properly), but I'd
rather not. I think it's already working.

Bug#686456: hobbit-plugins -- configuration for 'libs' test

2012-09-01 Thread Dr. F. Lee

Package: hobbit-plugins
Severity: wishlist

The libs test is doing a fine job on almost every system. One where it
fails is on an imap server where imapd holds open some deleted files
indicating which messages have been seen by the user. This results in a
'false' yellow - 'false', at least, as far as the sysadmins are concerned
although the script is behaving perfectly well.

I suggest a config file in /etc/hobbit which permits the administrator to
over-ride tests for a particular process: a patch and sample config are
attached.

Hi, it looks like the problems are non-trivial. For now you can replace
the second path of the patch, for src/new/newgetcwd.c, with (in the
beginning of that file):
#ifndef PATH_MAX
#define PATH_MAX 4096
#endif

I'm digging into that problem, but no solution yet. Seems to be a little
tricky...

  Upstream Author : Brian Behlendorf
* URL : http://zfsonlinux.org/
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: C
Description : The Solaris Porting Layer (SPL) for the Linux kernel.

The Solaris Porting Layer (SPL) is a Linux kernel module which provides
many of the Solaris kernel APIs. This shim layer makes it possible to
run Solaris kernel code in the Linux kernel with relatively minimal
 modification.
 .
This can be particularly useful when you want to track upstream Solaris
development closely and don't want the overhead of maintaining a large
patch which converts Solaris primitives to Linux primitives.
 .
This package contains the source code for the SPL Linux kernel module,
which can be used with DKMS, so that local kernel modules are automatically
built and installed every time the kernel packages are upgraded.

Bug#686452: /usr/bin/normalize-mp3: normalize-ogg by default re-encodes with lower bitrate

2012-09-01 Thread gwern
Package: normalize-audio
Version: 0.7.7-10
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/normalize-mp3

Dear Maintainer,

I recently finished up selecting 900MB of high-quality OGGs I had converted
from FLACs;
as a final step before making a backup, I normalized the audio with
normalize-ogg. I was
shocked to realize my 900MB had somehow become 500MB. All the files seemed to
have shrunk
considerably. Upon checking the man page, I saw

   --bitrate BR
Set bitrate of re-encoded file (default 128)

No - you do not irrecoverably delete massive amounts of user data with a quiet
default!
You preserve user data at all costs, or make an explicit opt-in mandatory so
the user
knows what you're doing to his files.

This design decision was a bad idea back in 2001, and it's an even worse idea
now in 2012.

Question remains whether the resulting binary packages are distributable
by Debian. You'd basically need to ship source only binary packages
which are built on the installing platform - including utilities, not
only for the kernel driver.

I can't help directly with that (no nvidia hardware here), but you could

Why lib32vdpau1? You're evidently using packaged xine; given that, it'll be
for amd64, so trying to fix this by installing something built for i386 (even
though packaged for amd64) makes no sense here.

Bug#686449: userv: Parser unable to parse `range' condition

2012-09-01 Thread Mark Wooding
Package: userv
Version: 1.0.5-0.2
Severity: normal

The `range' condition can never be parsed successfully. You get an error

found keyword `1000', expected linear whitespace

instead.

The bug is in `parser.c'. The function `pa_mwsp' insists on parsing some
whitespace; `pa_numberdollar' explains that it `[a]lso parses the whitespace
beforehand' and indeed does so. But `pcf_range' calls `pa_mwsp' before each
call to `pa_numberdollar'. As a result, any whitespace before the numeric or
`$' arguments has been consumed already, and the `pa_mwsp' called from
`pa_numberdollar' will always fail.

Bug#682403: icedove: New upstream (14)/3 missing (security related) updates

2012-09-01 Thread markus

Hello Carsten,

are there any news about Christoph?
Mozilla released Thunderbird 15 some days ago.
I'm using 10.0.6 at the moment but some addons already require 14.0
(like enigmail).
Also, mozilla has updated to list of known vulnerabilities and there is
a new ESR version too.

I really hope christoph finds some time to work on this. :)

Regards,
Markus

Hello Markus,

unfortunatley you are right. Mozilla released the version 14 of
thunderbird. Eric (see #682016) opened also a bug related to that
curcumstance. But Christoph as uploader is tied up with buisness
at the moment.
So it will take a little bit of time to package the newest version
of icedove.

I setting the severity to wishlist because you requested a new version,
security fixes for squeeze and actual for the wheezy releases are
nearly reworked in.

Regards
Carsten

Dear Maintainer,

there are 3 missing updates in experimental. The current experimental version
in debian is 11.0. The current thunderbird version is 14.0.
Mozilla published a list of known vulnerabilties (this is why I choose grave, I
hope this is ok):
https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/thunderbird.html
I think a lot of users use experimental since it's the only non-ESR version.
It would be awesome if you could publish a new version.

Thank you.

Bug#686448: O: uw-imap -- c-client library for mail protocols - development files

2012-09-01 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the uw-imap package, as I don't use it any longer:
Thanks to CiderWebmail I now finally got rid of PHP on the systems I
maintain (php5-imap used by most other webmails depend on libc-cleint).

The package description is:
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a method of accessing
electronic messages kept on a (possibly shared) mail server.
 .
The UW (University of Washington) IMAP toolkit provides the c-client
mail-handling library supporting various network transport methods,
file system storage formats, and authentication and authorization
 methods.
 .
This package contains the static c-client library and development
 headers.

Wow, this is actually very nice. I didn't know the implementation of
ZFS has advanced that much. I would really love to see this in Debian
anytime soon.

Do you know how it compares to the version of zfs available for the
FreeBSD kernels feature-wise?

Cheers,

Adrian

Robert, the patch doesn't fit the version in Debian, and I guess that you
haven't tested a fix for the version in Debian.

Paul, do you intend to make a new release that includes the solution for this

Bug#685814: phpgacl: prompting due to modified conffiles which were not modified by the user

2012-09-01 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Only an idea how this could be approached: Remove the file as conffile
and let the file be generated by postinst (and make the substitutions).

1/ remove the file as conffile

2/ In case the file does not yet exist generate the file as shiped
in the package.

3/ If and only if dbc_install is set to true, then do the substitutions
on the configuration file as previously done.

4/ If the update is from version <= 3.3.7-7.1 then it also needs to
 substitute smarty_dir variable setting with

 smarty_dir  = "/usr/share/php/smarty3/"

But this needs also to handle the case then when the package is
purged.

Regards,
Salvatore

Bug#682826: world writable directories possible patch

2012-09-01 Thread Barak A. Pearlmutter
Yeah. The "right thing" is to either:

 - disable the functionality

 - have a per-user exported fasl file dir in their home directory, and
an easy way for users to add other users they trust to their search
   path

 - have a setuid program that builds fasl files from trusted sources,
which in practice means download them itself or from .deb packages

My inclination is "disable", and reconsider if someone whines.
