Bug#705599: finish-install: 07speakup needs to be updated for Wheezy and GNOME 3

During my tries I got this error: error: Cannot spawn a message bus without a machine-id: Unable to load /var/lib/dbus/machine-id or /etc/machine-id: Failed to open file '/var/lib/dbus/machine-id': No such file or directory Now you're calling dbus-launch and I expect that a side-effect of this is to create /var/lib/dbus/machine-id. So I'm saying that on normal install this would be created on first boot while in install with speech synthesis it's now created within d-i. Yeah, but how common is the multiple users per machine scenario ? And whatever happens, all users will have gdm with a11y enabled. > On the other hand, just changing the default could be less surprising > than having a configured user. > > But on the other hand again, having "a file in > /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas outside of dpkg's knowledge" is not a good > thing either, and people will wonder how this script ended up there, and > not coming from a package. That's why I have put a clear comment on the top of the file that says what created this file. I agree it's not perfect but the same goes for having one user pre-configured and not the others... I would not expect to have files in my home directory that do not come from /etc/skel/ (except standard directories from xdg-user-dirs). The other positive point of changing the default is that you don't have to special case and hardcode the knowledge of the gdm user. > > 4/ if the system is reconfigured so that gsettings uses something else > >than dconf as backend, > > Urgl, so gsettings might be storing parameters another way, depending on > the system preference? That, however is really a problem indeed. Yes. That said I don't know anyone who has done it in production. The only supported databases so far are dconf and gconf. > Would it be possible to store a schema file somewhere in the user home? Not that I know. I tried to look up alternative places to put the schema override files (in /var, in /etc, etc.) but didn't find any (except if you're ready to change XDG_DATA_DIRS system-wide). See "man glib-compile-schemas". > Now, an issue is that while finish-install can be updated with a new > patch without rebuilding debian-installer, brltty can not, and rc2, > supposed to be used for 7.0.0, is already on its way. Bug#696059: linux: PATCH required for server interrupt load balancing/irqbalance (tested)
Dear maintainer, I must agree with Henrique de Moraes Holschuh and Sebastian Kutsch. I've tried the patch from Henrique for two months in a 3.2.35 kernel and it runs smooth without any problems. I use irqbalance (1.0.3-3) with "--powertresh" option. Please insert this patch into the next "wheezy"-kernel. Kind regards Holger Lüdecke smime.p7s Description: S/MIME Kryptografische Unterschrift
Bug#705725: sks maintainer scripts should avoid excessive chowns
Package: sks Version: 1.1.3-2+b1 Severity: normal The sks maintainer scripts have a number of chown operations, including some which are recursive chowns. When run under a kernel that does not implement linking restrictions at the filesystem level, this opens a path for privilege escalation from the sks user to the superuser. We should minimize the use of promiscuous chown operations in sks's maintainer scripts. --dkg -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (200, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.8-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#699586: closed by vin...@gmail.com (Vincent W. Chen) (Bug#699586: fixed in fvwm 1:2.6.5.ds-2)
Hi, On Tue, Mar 5, 2013 at 11:11 AM, Harald Dunkel wrote: > BTW, I get the same problem using vnc4server instead of Tightvnc. > Using xorg all 3 versions work. > Sorry to say, but I'm now quite convinced that the problem lies with both tightvnc and vnc4server, rather than fvwm. The deprecated.patch only changes from the function XKeycodeToKeysym() to XkbKeycodeToKeysym(). Both of those functions are provided by the X server. If fvwm is really at fault here, then the problem that you're seeing should manifest itself no matter which X server you're using. Since it works under xorg (which probably has more user than any other X server), there's probably no way to fix it in fvwm. You should try contacting the maintainer of tightvnc and vnc4server about this. Good luck, Vincent

Bug#694690: chrony: please, consider changing chrony to team maintainance
Package: chrony Version: 1.26-2 Followup-For: Bug #694690 Hi there. I just had some free time tonight and I worked a little bit more on the package, including importing upstream version 1.27. Should we change this to team maintenance? There are many, many things to fix with the package since, as it is right now, it is very bad. What I have so far is at: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/rbrito-guest/chrony.git The short summary of changes since last time is: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/rbrito-guest/chrony.git;a=commitdiff;h=HEAD IMVHO, we show kill all the overengineered init script that ships with chrony, as a lot of what it does is not really relevant---the whole "putonline" thing is mostly to tell if we are: * running and online * running and offline This would also allow us to drop the dependency on timelimit and make everything simpler. Also IMVHO, we should integrate chrony with the newer network managers like network-manager, wicd and similar programs, so that whenever an interface goes up chrony can have at least a chance of synchronizing the clock of the computer. Well, that's it for the moment. Comments are welcome. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (100, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: amd64 Kernel: Linux 3.8-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf-8, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.utf-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages chrony depends on: ii dpkg 1.16.10 ii install-info 4.13a.dfsg.1-10 ii libc6 2.17-0experimental2 ii libedit2 2.11-20080614-5 ii timelimit 1.8-1 ii ucf 3.0025+nmu3 Versions of packages chrony recommends: ii udev 175-7.1 chrony suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- Rogério Brito : rbrito@{ime.usp.br,gmail.com} : GPG key 4096R/BCFC http://rb.doesntexist.org/blog : Projects : https://github.com/rbrito/ DebianQA: http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=rbrito%40ime.usp.br -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#683095: wheezy pam_ldap broken with squeeze slapd using CAcert.org
Subject: Re: ldap client breaks after upgrade to wheezy Followup-For: Bug #683095 Package: libgnutls26 Version: 2.12.20-6 I just spent the last couple hours struggling with the same problem. Upgraded a pam_ldap client machine from squeeze to wheezy, openldap server is still running squeeze. Server certificate was issued by CAcert.org. With debug turned up on an ‘ldapsearch’, all I get is the following: TLS: peer cert untrusted or revoked (0x102) TLS: can't connect: (unknown error code). That led me to bug #478883. Tests using the following command: gnutls-cli --x509cafile /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt \ -d 4711 -V -p 636 ldap.example.com …works fine on squeeze (2.8), but fails on wheezy (2.12): …|<3>| HSK[0x251f710]: CERTIFICATE was received [4753 bytes] |<6>| BUF[REC][HD]: Read 4749 bytes of Data(22) |<6>| BUF[HSK]: Peeked 214 bytes of Data |<6>| BUF[HSK]: Emptied buffer |<6>| BUF[HSK]: Inserted 4 bytes of Data |<6>| BUF[HSK]: Inserted 4749 bytes of Data |<2>| ASSERT: ext_signature.c:393 |<2>| ASSERT: ext_signature.c:393 |<2>| ASSERT: ext_signature.c:393 |<2>| ASSERT: mpi.c:609 |<2>| ASSERT: dn.c:1209 |<2>| ASSERT: verify.c:584 |<2>| ASSERT: gnutls_kx.c:705 |<2>| ASSERT: gnutls_handshake.c:2777 |<6>| BUF[HSK]: Cleared Data from buffer *** Fatal error: Error in the certificate. |<4>| REC: Sending Alert[2|42] - Certificate is bad |<4>| REC[0x251f710]: Sending Packet[1] Alert(21) with length: 2 |<7>| WRITE: enqueued 7 bytes for 0x4. I hadn't realized that CAcert had reissued their intermediate to change fingerprint algorithm. Thanks Daniel! Manually replacing /usr/share/ca-certificates/cacert.org/cacert.org.crt on the squeeze server with the wheezy version solved the LDAP failures. Feels really dirty overwriting a file in /usr. Perhaps the ca-certificates package in squeeze could use some maintenance (squeeze-backports?) so that other users avoid this problem on wheezy upgrade. Or maybe a NEWS.Debian entry in libgnutls26 hinting at the breakage of the new gnutls validation code vs. older CAcert certificates on remote squeeze servers? -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages libgnutls26 depends on: ii libc6 2.13-38 ii libgcrypt111.5.0-5 ii libp11-kit00.12-3 ii libtasn1-3 2.13-2 ii multiarch-support 2.13-38 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.7.dfsg-13 libgnutls26 recommends no packages. libgnutls26 suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- Gerald Turner Email: gtur...@unzane.com JID: gtur...@unzane.com GPG: 0xFA8CD6D5 21D9 B2E8 7FE7 F19E 5F7D 4D0C 3FA0 810F FA8C D6D5 pgpkeGKmWoB7Q.pgp Description: PGP signature

I'm not sure what we really want. Most often, users (other than the person who installed the system with braille or speech) will not want accessibility being enabled. On the other hand, just changing the default could be less surprising than having a configured user. But on the other hand again, having "a file in /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas outside of dpkg's knowledge" is not a good thing either, and people will wonder how this script ended up there, and not coming from a package. > 4/ if the system is reconfigured so that gsettings uses something else >than dconf as backend, Urgl, so gsettings might be storing parameters another way, depending on the system preference? That, however is really a problem indeed. Would it be possible to store a schema file somewhere in the user home? Now, an issue is that while finish-install can be updated with a new patch without rebuilding debian-installer, brltty can not, and rc2, supposed to be used for 7.0.0, is already on its way. Ideally we'd use the same strategy for both the speakup and the brltty installations... Samuel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". That's what I thought as well however to my understanding "contrib" is for packages that can satisfy their dependencies from "non-free" and those games will hardly ever will be in "non-free". ResidualVM is very similar to ScummVM which already belong to "main" for a while. Also ftp-masters did not object for inclusion of ResidualVM to "main". Bug#705291: fetchmail: redundant fetch when configured for more than one user
This is expected behaviour. --user (or -u) is not a selector, but only overrides the default (which is the user name of the user running fetchmail). Effectively, the -u option overrides all username stanzas. I am demoting this to wishlist because it matches documentation: *We would need an option to specify and match the username in addition to the pollname.* This is not fetchmail 6.x stuff, however, it will have to wait for 7.x. The workaround is to use a pollname that is distinct from the server's host name. It might look like (untested): skip fred-pop.safe-mail.net via pop.safe-mail.net protocol imap port 993 interval 3 username "fred.flintst...@safe-mail.net" ssl sslcertck fetchall ... skip barney-pop.safe-mail.net via pop.safe-mail.net protocol imap port 993 interval 3 username "barney.rub...@safe-mail.net" ssl sslcertck fetchall ... (the same scheme for wilma). The poll name (the ...-pop.safe-mail.net right after skip) now no longer specifies the server name, but only an internal name to fetchmail. The actual host name goes after "via". It's a bit longer to spell out, but should solve your problem. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Any application (not library) which wants to use that mlock protected memory (aka secure memory) needs to make sure that libgcrypt has been initialized correctly. Thus if the application does not do that and a library wants to to its own thing, that library should do it in the above way. Salam-Shalom, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei. Bug#696899: can anybody sponsor an ITP for premake4 ?
Thanks! Experimental makes sense given how close Wheezy must be to being done. I wouldn't hold your breath on 4.4, it's an active project but not a terribly fast moving one. Also most of the development effort has moved onto a bit of a rewrite that will probably become 4.5 or 5. That said I've noticed a few projects using the 4.4 beta in the wild, so it may be worth updating to that if that's what people want to use. First, the absence of /usr/bin/python2 is a valid bug. The fact that it's not present is an accident, but I think you are pointing your frustration in the wrong direction. PEP 394 was written AFTER Archlinux took the insane step of pointing /usr/bin/python at a python3 version. That is not something that upstream had ever intended or expected. PEP 394 was done to try and, eventually, undo the damage. In the mean time, the problem you are concerned about will exist until every single distribution that was shipped without /usr/bin/python2 is retired. This is a long term issue and in the scheme of the problem you are bothered about, one release on one distribution isn't that big of an issue. The version of python-defaults in Experimental does have /usr/bin/python2 and that is what's intended to be the bases of the Python system for Jesse. Something like: chronic --log-output /var/log/foo.log /usr/bin/foo Would always log stderr and stdout to /var/log/foo.log, regardless of exit status or error, in addition to it's usual behavior of only outputting on error. Proof-of-concept patch, which would obviously require argument processing and probably could be written much better: --- /usr/bin/chronic2012-06-25 13:33:06.0 -0700 +++ chronic 2013-04-18 13:06:13.802819115 -0700 @@ -44,16 +44,20 @@ my $h = IPC::Run::start \@ARGV, \*STDIN, \$out, \$err; $h->finish; my $ret=$h->full_result; +open(LOGFILE, '>>/tmp/foo.log'); if ($ret >> 8) { # child failed showout(); + showout_log(); exit ($ret >> 8); } elsif ($ret != 0) { # child killed by signal showout(); + showout_log(); exit 1; } else { + showout_log(); exit 0; } @@ -61,3 +65,10 @@ print STDOUT $out; print STDERR $err; } + +sub showout_log { + print LOGFILE $out; + print LOGFILE $err; +} + +close(LOGFILE); -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (120, 'unstable'), (110, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages moreutils depends on: ii libc62.13-38 ii libipc-run-perl 0.92-1 ii perl 5.14.2-20 moreutils recommends no packages. Bug#655515: Bug in ntp.postinst
Hello, I dist-upgraded from squeeze to testing and had the exact problem described by Martin Eichenberg, however the suggestions provided by Michael Stapelberg didn't help. You may then consider to remove --quiet to make adduser more verbose. … I hacked around the problem by appending ‘|| true’ expressions to the postinst addgroup/adduser commands. I was in a bit of a hurry, so hopefully it's all OK. Looks good — I've uploaded, with a single change that I missed right from the start, changing the suite from unstable to experimental.
Bug#705667: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#705667: network-manager: automatic connect fails after suspend/resume when password is in user keyring
Am 18.04.2013 11:02, schrieb Stéphane Glondu: > I think NetworkManager should wait for the user to unlock the screen > when secrets are required. So, the issue here is that you store the connection secret in the user keyring (in your case I assume gnome-keyring) and gnome-keyring is automatically locked on suspend or when the screensaver lock is activated. I'm not sure yet, I guess this needs fixes in user session clients, like gnome-shell and nm-applet, to monitor the keyring and (re)initiate a connection attempt once the secret is available. Most users won't notice that problem, since system-wide connections are the default for WPA-PSK connections, where the secret is stored system wide and available at all times. In your case (eduroam is WPA-EAP iirc), the secrets are stored in the keyring indeed. Would you mind forwarding this bug to upstream and letting me know about the bug report? Otherwise I'll get to it once I have the time for it. I'm not sure what part the why is referring to, so: The reason to either need access to the repository information is so that the dependecies could be checked against the availability of packages/versions to produce a correct list of packages to install, possibly with version specifiers, so that the correct version, when multiple are available would get requested, or the correct alternative when one is not satisfiable (the OR depedencies problem Frank, a maintainer at the time, mentioned some time ago). Having a Build-Depends of “perl (>= 5.16.0) | libfoo-perl” with perl=5.14.2 installed and getting just perl as output is pretty much unsatisfactory and confusing, given that perl is already there, and I'm not looking forward to such kind of user confusion or derived bug reports. The reason why dpkg-dev cannot currently know or assume a specific frontend is because (as implemented in the patch) doing so would be a layer violation, making the code depend on something up the stack, and hardcoding a specific frontend, which are unacceptable, also stated on the mailing list. The path for a solution should come after wheezy, as I stated on the part trimmed from my previous mail to this bug report. > > Blindly outputting version-less package entries that might or might > > not be able to satisfy the dependencies anyway, seems very > > suboptimal, and currently one is best served by one of the frontend > > aware alternatives. > > Which ones? I'm attaching a debdiff of the changes I used to get ruby1.8 1.8.7.358-6 to build on x32 -- though it changes to use default gcc unconditionally, which is the reason I'm not setting the patch tag on this report. (I think this would also be an issue for the upcoming arm64 port.) -- Daniel Schepler ruby1.8.debdiff Description: Binary data
Bug#368297: About the libgcrypt and OpenLDAP issue
On Tue, 16 Apr 2013 20:37, a...@adam-barratt.org.uk said: > libgcrypt maintainers - any thoughts on this? Did anything change since my comments from 2010? OpenLDAP needs to get it right and it would even be better if all applications would set up a their policy regarding their demand for private key protection. For instacne by setting up a custom memory handler. My current problem with OpenLDAP is that it can't be used anymore with GnuTLS 3 because the OpenSSL emulation switched to GPLv3+ and thus no software with GPLv2only parts is able to use OpenLDAP. The straightforward solution would be to change OpenLDAP to use the native GNUTLS API and while at it also fix the libgcrypt initialization. Shalom-Salam, Werner -- Die Gedanken sind frei.
