During my tries I got this error:

error: Cannot spawn a message bus without a machine-id: Unable to load
/var/lib/dbus/machine-id or /etc/machine-id: Failed to open file
'/var/lib/dbus/machine-id': No such file or directory

Now you're calling dbus-launch and I expect that a side-effect of this
is to create /var/lib/dbus/machine-id.

So I'm saying that on normal install this would be created on first boot
while in install with speech synthesis it's now created within d-i.

(it might not be a big deal, but it's the kind of side effect that I prefer to
avoid)

Yeah, but how common is the multiple users per machine scenario ?
And whatever happens, all users will have gdm with a11y enabled.

That's why I have put a clear comment on the top of the file that says
what created this file. I agree it's not perfect but the same goes for having
one user pre-configured and not the others...

I would not expect to have files in my home directory that do not come from
/etc/skel/ (except standard directories from xdg-user-dirs).

The other positive point of changing the default is that you don't have
to special case and hardcode the knowledge of the gdm user.

Yes. That said I don't know anyone who has done it in production. The only
supported databases so far are dconf and gconf.

> Would it be possible to store a schema file somewhere in the user home?

Not that I know. I tried to look up alternative places to put the schema
override files (in /var, in /etc, etc.) but didn't find any (except if
you're ready to change XDG_DATA_DIRS system-wide).

See "man glib-compile-schemas".

Yes, I agree. That said it doesn't break anything to mix up the strategies.
Thus we can always sync for 7.0.1.

Bug#696059: linux: PATCH required for server interrupt load balancing/irqbalance (tested)

2013-04-18 Thread Holger Lüdecke

Dear maintainer,

I must agree with Henrique de Moraes Holschuh and Sebastian Kutsch.

I've tried the patch from Henrique for two months in a 3.2.35 kernel and it runs smooth without any
problems. I use irqbalance (1.0.3-3) with "--powertresh" option.

Please insert this patch into the next "wheezy"-kernel.

Kind regards

Bug#705725: sks maintainer scripts should avoid excessive chowns

2013-04-18 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: sks
Version: 1.1.3-2+b1
Severity: normal

The sks maintainer scripts have a number of chown operations,
including some which are recursive chowns.

When run under a kernel that does not implement linking restrictions
at the filesystem level, this opens a path for privilege escalation
from the sks user to the superuser.

We should minimize the use of promiscuous chown operations in sks's
maintainer scripts.

Sorry to say, but I'm now quite convinced that the problem lies with both
tightvnc and vnc4server, rather than fvwm.

The deprecated.patch only changes from the function XKeycodeToKeysym() to
XkbKeycodeToKeysym(). Both of those functions are provided by the X server.
If fvwm is really at fault here, then the problem that you're seeing should
manifest itself no matter which X server you're using. Since it works under
xorg (which probably has more user than any other X server), there's
probably no way to fix it in fvwm.

You should try contacting the maintainer of tightvnc and vnc4server about
this.

Good luck,

Vincent

Bug#694690: chrony: please, consider changing chrony to team maintainance

2013-04-18 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: chrony
Version: 1.26-2
Followup-For: Bug #694690

Hi there.

I just had some free time tonight and I worked a little bit more on the
package, including importing upstream version 1.27.

Should we change this to team maintenance? There are many, many things to
fix with the package since, as it is right now, it is very bad. What I have
so far is at:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/rbrito-guest/chrony.git

The short summary of changes since last time is:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=users/rbrito-guest/chrony.git;a=commitdiff;h=HEAD

IMVHO, we show kill all the overengineered init script that ships with
chrony, as a lot of what it does is not really relevant---the whole
"putonline" thing is mostly to tell if we are:

* running and online
* running and offline

This would also allow us to drop the dependency on timelimit and make
everything simpler.

Also IMVHO, we should integrate chrony with the newer network managers like
network-manager, wicd and similar programs, so that whenever an interface
goes up chrony can have at least a chance of synchronizing the clock of the
computer.

Well, that's it for the moment. Comments are welcome.

You seem to be using nouveau, if I'm not mistaken; if you're willing
to test out the proprietary nvidia drivers, could you please do so as
well (once you're able to)? It'd provide upstream with some additional
information to troubleshoot this bug.

Bug#705721: nis: missing -r option to makedbm for netgrp targets

2013-04-18 Thread Vincent McIntyre
Package: nis
Version: 3.17-31
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Hi,

our netgroups map has a good number of comment lines,
some of which generate warnings like this:

makedbm: warning: malformed input data (ignored)

The patch below turns on the -r option of makedbm when making
the netgroup-related maps. This avoids the warning and does not
seem to have any ill effects. Is it worth applying?

Kind regards
Vince

Hi Vincent,
I've just moved house and my internet isn't in yet, so I'm not yet able to setup

When I get internet running and I have a moment of time, I'll try to setup

Missed this. steptalk is a reverse dependency that would also need removed.

Bug#705719: gdb: Doesn't handle complex numbers

2013-04-18 Thread chrjae
Package: gdb
Version: 7.4.1+dfsg-0.1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

I've got code that deals with complex numbers. While debugging code
(that casts pointers), I noticed that GDB doesn't handle complex
number types:

(gdb) p ((complex double*)(x))[0]
No symbol "_Complex" in current context.
(gdb) p ((double complex*)(x))[0]
A syntax error in expression, near `_Complex'.
(gdb) p ((complex long*)(x))[0]
No symbol "_Complex" in current context.
(gdb) p ((complex float*)(x))[0]
No symbol "_Complex" in current context.
(gdb) p ((double*)(x))[0]
$1 = 7.9050503334599447e-323
(gdb) p x
$2 = 140737104258313

(for some reasons x is actually defined as long int in my code base,
even though it *does* contain an address)

Not a big deal for me, as I can inspect the real/imag fields manually,
but I was asked in IRC to report this. Dunno if that's just not
implemented or a bug.

Bug#683095: wheezy pam_ldap broken with squeeze slapd using CAcert.org

2013-04-18 Thread Gerald Turner
Subject: Re: ldap client breaks after upgrade to wheezy
Followup-For: Bug #683095
Package: libgnutls26
Version: 2.12.20-6

I just spent the last couple hours struggling with the same problem.

Upgraded a pam_ldap client machine from squeeze to wheezy, openldap
server is still running squeeze. Server certificate was issued by
CAcert.org.

With debug turned up on an ‘ldapsearch’, all I get is the following:

TLS: peer cert untrusted or revoked (0x102)
TLS: can't connect: (unknown error code).

That led me to bug #478883. Tests using the following command:

  gnutls-cli --x509cafile /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt \
-d 4711 -V -p 636 ldap.example.com

…works fine on squeeze (2.8), but fails on wheezy (2.12):

fingerprint algorithm.

Thanks Daniel!

Manually replacing /usr/share/ca-certificates/cacert.org/cacert.org.crt
on the squeeze server with the wheezy version solved the LDAP failures.
Feels really dirty overwriting a file in /usr. Perhaps the
ca-certificates package in squeeze could use some maintenance
(squeeze-backports?) so that other users avoid this problem on wheezy
upgrade. Or maybe a NEWS.Debian entry in libgnutls26 hinting at the
breakage of the new gnutls validation code vs. older CAcert certificates
on remote squeeze servers?

That seems to be the solution the rest of the open source community is
converging toward. Short sighted is an odd categorization since it
seems to have taken 8 years to come to this conclusion.

Maybe some of the blogs on the issue and other comments in this bug

The official description from the policy manual: "The contrib archive area
contains supplemental packages intended to work with the Debian
distribution, but which require software outside of the distribution to
either build or function." residualvm seems to fit the "function" part of
that description perfectly.

Right, I forgot to kill the daemon afterwards.

Yes, thus Cc-ing debian-accessibility. I'm not sure what we really
want. Most often, users (other than the person who installed the system
with braille or speech) will not want accessibility being enabled.

On the other hand, just changing the default could be less surprising
than having a configured user.

But on the other hand again, having "a file in
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas outside of dpkg's knowledge" is not a good
thing either, and people will wonder how this script ended up there, and
not coming from a package.

> 4/ if the system is reconfigured so that gsettings uses something else
>than dconf as backend,

Urgl, so gsettings might be storing parameters another way, depending on
the system preference? That, however is really a problem indeed.

Would it be possible to store a schema file somewhere in the user home?

Now, an issue is that while finish-install can be updated with a new
patch without rebuilding debian-installer, brltty can not, and rc2,
supposed to be used for 7.0.0, is already on its way. Ideally we'd use
the same strategy for both the speakup and the brltty installations...

Package: microcode.ctl

Severity: wishlist

So I run Linux from an USB pendrive, I install it in an AMD system but I will
use it sometimes in an Intel system, I need to download and keep updated the
database even if it isn't for the CPU I am using right now.
In my personal opinion I think that if someone installs this package and runs
the script to update the database it should do as told irrespective of the CPU
it has.
Otherwise having an option to simply force the download would be nice.
Thanks for your consideration.
Have a nice day!

That's what I thought as well however to my understanding "contrib" is
for packages that can satisfy their dependencies from "non-free" and
those games will hardly ever will be in "non-free".

ResidualVM is very similar to ScummVM which already belong to "main"
for a while. Also ftp-masters did not object for inclusion of
ResidualVM to "main".

I don't mind moving ResidualVM to contrib (if appropriate) but only if
some experienced DDs will suggest that as well.

Maybe, but debhelper 9 is already in squeeze-backports so it can
already be built for squeeze without any trouble.

Bug#705714: unblock: meta-kde/5:77+deb7u1

2013-04-18 Thread Sune Vuorela
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock package meta-kde

The default install of KDE Plasma Workspace ended up with two
applications notifying the user about available updates,
update-notifier-kde and apper. The latter can also actually help with
applying the updates so it is generally preferred. So let's remove
update-notifier-kde from the default install.

Thanks in advance

Here comes the full diff according to my git.

Bug#705713: libpam-mount: Script to proper update password of crypted home partition/container

2013-04-18 Thread colliar
Package: libpam-mount
Version: 2.14~git+d1d6f871-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi

It would be nice if this package would include a helper script to properly
update passwords of crypted home partitions/containers when the user changes
his/her pw.

Maybe libpam-scripts could help to run a script when passwd is called.

Thanks

Hi

It would be really useful to be able to parse options to mkfs through pmt-ehd,
especially when used on a partition.

I do not need any reserved space for root for example.

Thanks

Bug#705291: fetchmail: redundant fetch when configured for more than one user

2013-04-18 Thread Matthias Andree
This is expected behaviour.

--user (or -u) is not a selector, but only overrides the default (which
is the user name of the user running fetchmail).

Effectively, the -u option overrides all username stanzas.

I am demoting this to wishlist because it matches documentation:

*We would need an option to specify and match the username in addition
to the pollname.* This is not fetchmail 6.x stuff, however, it will have
to wait for 7.x.

The workaround is to use a pollname that is distinct from the server's
host name. It might look like (untested):

  skip fred-pop.safe-mail.net via pop.safe-mail.net
  protocol imap
  port 993
  interval 3
  username "fred.flintst...@safe-mail.net"
  ssl
  sslcertck
  fetchall

...
  skip barney-pop.safe-mail.net via pop.safe-mail.net
  protocol imap
  port 993
  interval 3
  username "barney.rub...@safe-mail.net"
  ssl
  sslcertck
  fetchall

... (the same scheme for wilma).

The poll name (the ...-pop.safe-mail.net right after skip) now no longer
specifies the server name, but only an internal name to fetchmail. The
actual host name goes after "via".

It's a bit longer to spell out, but should solve your problem.

Sorry, it won't be possible to add any new graphics hardware support
to 'squeeze'. The kernel and X packages in squeeze-backports might
support this hardware properly; otherwise try Debian 7.0 'wheezy'
which will be released very shortly.

Hmmm...

# grep '^FIRST_SYSTEM' /etc/adduser.conf
FIRST_SYSTEM_UID=123
FIRST_SYSTEM_GID=123

Sorry I forgot about that, a few years ago I was juggling a bunch of Xen
guests, trying to keep system passwd and group entries in sync for a
handful of common daemons and manually bumping adduser.conf.

Perhaps I need to restore those to 100 in order to avoid this type of
"bug" with other postinst scripts.

It also ships 3.0 (libgnutls28) which then sometimes leads tp processes
linking two different versions of GNUTLS. Usually this works, but it is
not a pretty thing and might be the cause for other trouble later.

I did this 3 years ago and would have appreciated if that persisting
problem had been raised again at gcrypt-devel.

Bug#368297: About the libgcrypt and OpenLDAP issue

Urgs. That is a short sighted fix.

That is the most correct solution. Any application (not library) which
wants to use that mlock protected memory (aka secure memory) needs to
make sure that libgcrypt has been initialized correctly. Thus if the
application does not do that and a library wants to to its own thing,
that library should do it in the above way.

Bug#696899: can anybody sponsor an ITP for premake4 ?

2013-04-18 Thread Cameron Hart
Thanks! Experimental makes sense given how close Wheezy must be to being
done. I wouldn't hold your breath on 4.4, it's an active project but not a
terribly fast moving one. Also most of the development effort has moved
onto a bit of a rewrite that will probably become 4.5 or 5. That said I've
noticed a few projects using the 4.4 beta in the wild, so it may be worth
updating to that if that's what people want to use.

Since we don't say which gid to use, that can't be a reason to
fail. It also never failed here ...

Maybe it's not a system group for you? What does "getent group ntp"
return?

Can you run it without the --quiet option?

That seems easier than

Bug#705709: lxc-unshare manpage has wrong command name

2013-04-18 Thread Dan Greene
Package: lxc
Version: 0.9.0-3
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,
In the manpage for lxc-unshare, the wrong command name is given.
For example, the synopsis, which currently says
lxc-clone {-s namespaces} {-u user} {command}
should be
lxc-unshare {-s namespaces} {-u user} {command}

This same error is found in the examples.

(Trying to execute any of the incorrect commands results in lxc-clone
printing its usage message.)

Bug#705708: gmic: FTBFS on hurd-i386

Source: gmic

Severity: important

User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org

Hi,

currently[1], gmic fails to compile on GNU/Hurd.

The failure happens because in the (home-brew...) Makefile the code path
used if OS=GNU is the Windows configuration.
The easy fix is doing what has also been done for GNU/kFreeBSD, i.e.
turn OS=GNU into Linux.
(Side note: patch kfreebsd-support seems obsolete.)

Bug#689397: follow PEP 394 (re-include /usr/bin/python2 symlink)

No. We're two and a half weeks from release and far past the point where the
release team would accept any non-critical changes. No matter how critical
you think this is for Python, it's not critical for the release.

First, the absence of /usr/bin/python2 is a valid bug. The fact that it's not
present is an accident, but I think you are pointing your frustration in the
wrong direction.

PEP 394 was written AFTER Archlinux took the insane step of pointing
/usr/bin/python at a python3 version. That is not something that upstream had
ever intended or expected. PEP 394 was done to try and, eventually, undo the
damage. In the mean time, the problem you are concerned about will exist
until every single distribution that was shipped without /usr/bin/python2 is
retired. This is a long term issue and in the scheme of the problem you are
bothered about, one release on one distribution isn't that big of an issue.

The version of python-defaults in Experimental does have /usr/bin/python2 and
that is what's intended to be the bases of the Python system for Jesse.

chronic is pretty nice, thanks!

I'm curious if you'd consider adding an option to also log to a specified file
in all cases.

I could see wanting a full log file of a cron job, but only output to cron on
errors.

Something like:

  chronic --log-output /var/log/foo.log /usr/bin/foo

Would always log stderr and stdout to /var/log/foo.log, regardless of exit
status or error, in addition to it's usual behavior of only outputting on error.

Proof-of-concept patch, which would obviously require argument processing and
probably could be written much better:

I hacked around the problem by appending ‘|| true’ expressions to the

After poking around other postinst scripts looking for addgroup/user
usage, I see a better way would probably be something like the bind9

  getent passwd bind >/dev/null 2>&1 ||
adduser --system --home /var/cache/bind --no-create-home \

to upset the RMs this late in the release cycle. But it still needs to navigate
NEW anyway and hopefully once that's done a re-up to unstable will be swift (or
perhaps 4.4 will be out by then)

The only problem is that help2man tends to make pretty bad man
pages. I've used it before to give me a start, but they usually need a
lot of cleaning up

Bug#705685: [kdebase-runtime] Investigating

2013-04-18 Thread Rafael Belmonte
Package: kdebase-runtime

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I did this fresh install yesterday using the Live CD, this one:
http://live.debian.net/cdimage/release/next+nonfree/i386/iso-hybrid/debian-
wheezy-live-rc1-i386-kde-desktop+nonfree.iso

I have just created a new user some minutes ago to test this in a clean user
enviroment, the first two times I logged in with the new user, logout worked
well (I only changed the KDE language to American English in this case in
Systemsettings), but now logout dialog usually fails with no special action
done. I just log in to KDE and Shutdown and Logout buttons from Kickoff do
nothing, right click on desktop and Leave option does nothing, Logout plasmoid
does nothing.
Sorry I am not sure right now how to tell you about reproduce the problem.
Is there anything I can do to offer you some debug info?

Bug#705704: Hibernate is not working, kernel cleans nodes on startup

2013-04-18 Thread Javier Domingo
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.2.41-2
Severity: important

I have tried several times to hibernate the system and boot from it, and it is
not working. I had after a partition resize my swap partition changed, and it
wasn't being properly loaded due to the UUID having been changed.

I have reconfigured the /etc/fstab to be aware of the partition, and now I am
given the option to hibernate (without swap this is disabled), but it isn't
working anyway.

I am putting here all the logs reportbug asked me, but I will also send the
full dmesg file. As there You will be able to see that kernel cleans nodes at
begginning

Bug#547171: debhelper version and compat

2013-04-18 Thread Tyler Trafford
I've been testing this (with mock) and it seems great.

I can see no ill effects when the debhelper version requirements (in
control and compat) are lowered to 8. This makes it so the package can
be rebuilt for squeeze when necessary.

Bug#705703: cgminer: create manpage during debian build

2013-04-18 Thread Scott Howard
Package: cgminer
Version: 2.11.3-1
Severity: wishlist

this is a to-do bug so I don't forget: we should generate cgminer's
help2man man page during build. This is because the different algorithms
available to the miner are a function of architecture, thus the manpage is
a function of architecture

Bug#705702: residualvm: Doesn't it belong in contrib?

2013-04-18 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: residualvm
Version: 0.1.1+dfsg-1
Severity: normal

I was pleasantly surprised to see this show up in my new packages list this
morning (I was heavily involved in the development of it for a while).
However, given that it requires data files from either Grim Fandango or
Escape From Monkey Island to be of any use, wouldn't it make more sense for
this package to live in contrib rather than main?

Bug#659378: Réagir efficacement ?

2013-04-18 Thread patricia . colmar

Bonjour,

Comment faire face:

I see two options to get this fixed for Wheezy:

[Option 1] -- Do the same that Ubuntu did. That is:

1.a) Patch libgcrypt to revert commit
 d769529a71ccda4e833f919f3c5693d25b005ff0

1.b) Patch python-gnutls to fix the regression that 1.a) will introduce.
 Check: http://bugs.debian.org/368297#173

[Option 2] -- Patch OpenLDAP to set the flag GCRYCTL_DISABLE_SECMEM if
GCRYCTL_INITIALIZATION_FINISHED is false. This is the patch I previously
proposed at http://bugs.debian.org/368297#135

Any of the two options will fix the problem. Which one is better? You bet

One test if you don't mind: merely rebuilding it vs. Asterisk -3 does
not fix the issue, right?

get a reply now either way about whether this unblock is going to happen?

GnuTLS 3 isn't particularly relevant to getting this RC bug fixed in
wheezy, given that wheezy will be shipping with 2.12.

In less than two weeks, without introducing any new bugs?

The realistic alternatives as far as I can see currently are that the
suggested fix gets applied or this bug remains unfixed for wheezy.

Opinions that help towards a constructive resolution appreciated.

Bug#705701: iscsitarget-dkms: fails to install when kernel headers not installed

2013-04-18 Thread Conrad Clement
Package: iscsitarget-dkms

Version: 1.4.20.2-10.1

Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I was installing iscsitarget-dkms on a brand new Wheezy system.

In aptitude I disable the feature 'Install recommended packages automatically'

when installing the package I received the error

---snip---

Setting up iscsitarget-dkms (1.4.20.2-10.1) ...

Creating symlink /var/lib/dkms/iscsitarget/1.4.20.2/source ->

DKMS: add completed.

Error! Your kernel headers for kernel 3.2.0-4-amd64 cannot be found.

Please install the linux-headers-3.2.0-4-amd64 package,

or use the --kernelsourcedir option to tell DKMS where it's located

Press Return to continue.

---end snip---

Since the kernel headers are required for this package to install properly

maybe consider making the linux-headers package a depends package.

Thank you,

Conrad

It seems you have a corrupt config.xml file. Please backup your hidden
config directory and move it to .osmo.old for example, then purge osmo
completely and reinstall the application.

If osmo cannot find your hidden .osmo directory in $HOME, it will start
with new settings and it should work again. Please report back if that
solves your problem.

Markus

location of my music library wasn't there. I would have expected rhythmbox to
complain about missing files, but it segfaulted. I tried starting it several

Bug#705667: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#705667: network-manager: automatic connect fails after suspend/resume when password is in user keyring

Am 18.04.2013 11:02, schrieb Stéphane Glondu:
> I think NetworkManager should wait for the user to unlock the screen

So, the issue here is that you store the connection secret in the user
keyring (in your case I assume gnome-keyring) and
gnome-keyring is automatically locked on suspend or when the screensaver
lock is activated.

I'm not sure yet, I guess this needs fixes in user session clients, like
gnome-shell and nm-applet, to monitor the keyring and (re)initiate a
connection attempt once the secret is available.

Most users won't notice that problem, since system-wide connections are
the default for WPA-PSK connections, where the secret is stored system
wide and available at all times.

In your case (eduroam is WPA-EAP iirc), the secrets are stored in the
keyring indeed.

Would you mind forwarding this bug to upstream and letting me know about
the bug report?
Otherwise I'll get to it once I have the time for it.

Michael

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this
command:

This package is an update, it has already been put into the repo once by
a sponsor, though I don't remember who it was.

This was pretty clear from the discussion started around that particular
patch on the debian-dpkg mailing list.

> Why?

I'm not sure what part the why is referring to, so:

The reason to either need access to the repository information is so
that the dependecies could be checked against the availability of
packages/versions to produce a correct list of packages to install,
possibly with version specifiers, so that the correct version, when
multiple are available would get requested, or the correct alternative
when one is not satisfiable (the OR depedencies problem Frank, a
maintainer at the time, mentioned some time ago). Having a
Build-Depends of “perl (>= 5.16.0) | libfoo-perl” with perl=5.14.2
installed and getting just perl as output is pretty much unsatisfactory
and confusing, given that perl is already there, and I'm not looking
forward to such kind of user confusion or derived bug reports.

The reason why dpkg-dev cannot currently know or assume a specific
frontend is because (as implemented in the patch) doing so would be a
layer violation, making the code depend on something up the stack, and
hardcoding a specific frontend, which are unacceptable, also stated on
the mailing list.

The path for a solution should come after wheezy, as I stated on the
part trimmed from my previous mail to this bug report.

For example mk-build-deps, pbuilder-satisfydepends, sbuild or embuilddeps,
as stated elsewhere.

Guillem

Bug#368297: About the libgcrypt and OpenLDAP issue

Did anything change since my comments from 2010?

OpenLDAP needs to get it right and it would even be better if all
applications would set up a their policy regarding their demand for
private key protection. For instacne by setting up a custom memory
handler.

My current problem with OpenLDAP is that it can't be used anymore with
GnuTLS 3 because the OpenSSL emulation switched to GPLv3+ and thus no
software with GPLv2only parts is able to use OpenLDAP. The
straightforward solution would be to change OpenLDAP to use the native
