Ok. Thanks for your answer!

The main practical reason why it is bad to carry a cmake file in e.g.
/usr/share/cmake-3.0 is that when e.g. cmake 3.2 gets uploaded, it doesn't
look there automatically any more.

The main conceptual reason is that installing files there is that it is like
burying the treasure map together with the treasure.

FooConfig files have - since cmake 2.6 or something like that - been the
preferred way for a shared component to tell cmake where it is installed.

Yes, I think it actually comes from the fact that parcellite is using
g_source_remove() in a wrong way. So this bug has absolutely nothing to
do with parcelliterc.

Bug#784900: Installing of a new language causes that other locales are registered as outdated

they don't want to fix it as it could cause more regressions (this was also
the reason to forward it to upstream).

As already explained, Debian doesn't use language packs. locale-gen
regenerates all locales and that matches what Debian needs. It doesn't
seems to match what Ubuntu needs, and in that case Ubuntu should either
modify it or call it in a different way.

I don't see why Debian should fix an Ubuntu specific bug, just ask
Ubuntu developers to do it.

  Dear John,

I have uploaded the new upstream version of makehuman to
experimental. Could you please test it and tell me if you still have
  this bug, please?.

 Hi Muammar,

I use the testing distribution, but I have manually installed makehuman
and makehuman-data from experimental using dpkg. The only other
dependency, python 2.7, is already on my system.

Initially the segfault occurred as before over several trials, but after
a reboot, makehuman runs fine. I have no clue as to why.

I have changed the relationships in the Binary dependencies of makehuman. In
this sense, the package should now replace completely versions earlier than
1.0.2 if installed in the system. Maybe that's the problem you had, because
I tried to upgrade from 1.0.0~alpha6-5+b1 to 1.0.2 and dpkg even died when
trying to overwrite one of the files.

In the next upload I am preparing, I will close this bug. But you are free to
open it if you find the problem upgrading from 1.0.0~alpha6-5+b1 to 1.0.2
is still there.

Thanks for replying.

Bug#697765: dpkg-reconfigure -fnoninteractive locales fails

2015-05-17 Thread Christian Meyer
Dear maintainers,
I badly got bitten by this bug, too, while trying to (automatically)
install Debian Jessie (stable) with FAI.

When installing locales and then reconfiguring it with
# dpkg-reconfigure locales
it works as expected using dialog input method.

Trying to reconfigure locales noninteractively, it fails:

# echo set locales/locales_to_be_generated de_DE.UTF-8 UTF-8 | chroot
$NFSROOT debconf-communicate
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.

# chroot $NFSROOT dpkg-reconfigure -fnoninteractive locales
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:

perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale (C).
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or

Workaround (thanks to Thomas Lange from FAI):
Don't install locales with all the other packages but seperately (e. g.
with a script). Configure locales before installation. Do not
reconfigure them (noninteractively).

Bug#785542: viewnior: Behavior setting doesn't work corectly

2015-05-17 Thread Mikhail Morfikov
Package: viewnior
Version: 1.5-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrading viewnior from 1.4-2+b1 to 1.5-1 , I noticed that basically all
options that can be set via the behavior tab simply don't work as expected.
You can set, for instance, on mouse wheel to navigate images, but you get
zoom image instead, etc. On the previous version everything works just fine

Bug#785543: libc6-dev: iswalnum(0x345) incorrectly return 1

2015-05-17 Thread Error of the function iswalnum for the character COMBINING GREEK YPOGEGRAMMENI
Package: libc6-dev
Version: 2.19-17
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

In Greek traditional text analysis, the iota subscript (U+0345) is often talked
about as a diacritic, see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iota_subscript;

In the recourse: http://www.unicode.org/ucd/
I found two documents:
1. http://www.unicode.org/Public/UCD/latest/charts/CodeCharts.pdf
2. http://www.unicode.org/Public/UCD/latest/ucd/PropList.txt
In the first document in the section: Combining Diacritical Marks I found
this character in the table. See at the screenshot
https://yadi.sk/i/F_A04mo7gRMvd.
In the second document in line 752 we have:
0300..034E; Diacritic # Mn [79] COMBINING GRAVE ACCENT..COMBINING UPWARDS
ARROW BELOW

As a result, I think, it is pretty clear that iswalnum(0x345) should not return
1, but rather 0.

To test the function iswalnum(), I created a simple code:
===
#include stdio.h
#include locale.h
#include wctype.h
#include inttypes.h
#include stdlib.h
#include string.h

#define HAVE_CONFIG_H 1

int main (int argc, char** argv)
{
if (!setlocale(LC_CTYPE, )){
perror(setlocale(3) failed);
return 1;
}
wchar_t wc;
mbtowc (NULL, NULL, 0);
mbtowc(wc, argv[1], strlen(argv[1]));
printf(iswalnum(0x% PRIxMAX )=%d\n, (intmax_t) wc, iswalnum(wc));
return 0;
}
===

I put this code in a file test4iswalnum.c, then compiled:
$ gcc -Wall -o test4iswalnum test4iswalnum.c

Then I check the function iswalnum():
$ LC_CTYPE='C.UTF-8' ./test4iswalnum  ͅ
iswalnum(0x345)=1

Bug#784328: fvwm (2.6.5) does not detect hotkeys

2015-05-17 Thread Claude Krantz

... I forgot to include my VNC configuration, which might be relevant:

My ~/.vnc/xstartup looks like this:

#!/bin/sh
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
#x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title $VNCDESKTOP Desktop
#x-window-manager
# Fix to make GNOME work
export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1
/etc/X11/Xsession

The system-wide Xsession is auto-configured by Debian to start FVWM. As far as I
know, the same script is executed if one runs 'startx' on a physical
X11-session. As far as I remember, the XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE-part was recommended
at some point to fix VNC issues with GNOME-applications, I tried removing it,
but it seems to be unrelated to my FVWM-issue.

 Thanks, Lisandro.

 [...]

Hi,

Thanks for working on this.

We will need a test case in the test suite before merging it. The
description might be needing a bit of rewording. How about:

Info: This package contains a file in a path reserved solely for
ttCMake/tt. This normally means you are shipping a ttFind/tt
module. Libraries should not ship Find modules at all but Config files
 instead.
 .
The Config files should be installed in the unversioned path
 usr/(lib/lt;archgt;|lib|share)/cmake/lt;namegt;*/
 .
By using CMake Config files in the unversioned path, the package will
continue to work as expected when a new version of CMake is uploaded.

Admittedly, I presumed there was only one (valid) prefix and it was
always usr.

More suggestions:

 * If you got any related documentation, please consider adding a Ref
   field listing it.

Thanks,
~Niels

The internal RTC is not expected to work on this model so it should
be disabled in the Device Tree:

will fix the first error message.

Looks like this has now hit mainline as
http://git.kernel.org/linus/750e30d4076ae5e02ad13a376e96c95a2627742c

It's tagged for stable v3.8+ so unless you want it sooner (in which case
I can arrange a cherry-pick) I plan to wait for it to hit 3.16.y.

The second message also seems inappropriate in cases where no RTC
device exists. Also the path prefix isn't helpful.

Agreed on both counts.

Bug#685605: qa.debian.org: Would be great if the PTS could provide RDF descriptions of packages

2015-05-17 Thread Iain R. Learmonth
Package: tracker.debian.org
Followup-For: Bug #685605

Hi,

Just an update on progress on this.

The service at rdf.debian.net has been running stably for a while now.
I've now ported all the scripts to Python 3 so there is no longer a
Python 2 issue. I have just today added in some links to the HTML
templates to get from there to the RDF/XML, Turtle and N3
serialisations.

I also have some progress on linking to upstreams, with the beginnings
of a script to generate triples for packages with CPAN upstreams.

I'd like to move the script that generates triples from UDD to using
D2RQ instead (although this is not yet packaged in Debian). The script
that pulls data from Perl should really be putting the data into UDD
first too.

For when this service is ready for deployment, I propose using
Frozen-Flask to generate a static site and pushing this to
static.debian.org. This will require setting up content negotiation on
the static mirrors but as this is already done for language negotiation
this should be a large problem for DSA.

Thanks,
Iain.

and several of my scripts are not working anymore. After some tests, it
turns out that the problem likely comes from the fact the 'date'
function does not work as expected.

  In wheezy, the command line
  date /bin/date +%Y%m%d.%p
  would have returned
  20150512.PM

In jessie, the same command line returns
  20150512.
  omitting PM.

As a consequence of this omission, my scripts are crashing.

Have you got any idea why this is happening?

  I can't reproduce it:

  /bin/date +%Y%m%d.%p
  20150512.AM

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a locale issue. What does
  env LANG=C LC_ALL=C /bin/date +%Y%m%d.%p
  return?

  If that works, what does
  locale
  return when run by itself?

%p is blank in many locales unfortunately.
You can see the am_pm vary with these commands:

  $ LC_ALL=en_IE locale -k LC_TIME
  $ LC_TIME=C locale -k LC_TIME
  $ LC_ALL=zh_CN.utf8 date +%p
  ??
  $ LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 date +%p
  PM
  $ LC_ALL=en_US date +%p
  PM

locales with blank am_pm should be fixed up to allow one to
get an explicit 12 hour format like `date +%I:%m%p` for example.

Note some locales (like en_GB for example) default
to 24 hour (t_fmt=%T), and also provide an am_pm entry,
which is the correct behavior in my opinion.

  I see that https://sourceware.org/glibc/wiki/Locales states:
am_pm and t_fmt_ampm - should be empty if using 24 hour time

  Marko, that seems incorrect?
At least am_pm should be populated to
allow users to generate 12 hour time with strftime?

I can't find references to the discussion I had with Keld earlier but
the rationale for not populating it was along the lines:

 1) am_pm should be populated only if AM/PM convention is used to signal
applications they should not try to print them when using them is
unwanted. Seems that only the locale(5) commit messages, not the page
 itself, spell this out:

 http://git.kernel.org/cgit/docs/man-pages/man-pages.git/commit/?id=b5d4168adfb426f45108ac2bf7c8b17b126b07a1
 http://git.kernel.org/cgit/docs/man-pages/man-pages.git/commit/?id=0c2dbad182e40db2ca47128f229ca7dbd83e179f

 2) what unwanted means is that in many cases 12 hour time with AM/PM
notation is alien thus generating such time representation under those
locales would be illogical (e.g. 5.34 ip. in Finnish context is
 completely unnatural).

The same goes for various name_* keywords in LC_NAME, defining them for
locales where they are not used would not allow signaling applications
that under those locales their usage is unwanted.

I think that when running scripts you should ensure that the correct
locale is used, and in most cases that would be the C locale.
Better set it explicitely.

Best regards
keld

Hi!

the deadwood binary can currently also not be built reproducibly.
During building a new header DwRandPrime.h is generated with
the tool RandomPrime, which is used in the deadwood source.

Is there any reason why the MUL_CONSTANT has to differ on each build?
Or could this also be made reproducible without affecting security?

Bug#785540: www.debian.org/events/speakers contains data not internationalized

Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

Dear all

to translate
www.debian.org/events/speakers

It seems it contains not internationalized data from the file
https://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/webwml/webwml/english/events/speakers/speakers.data

I've inspected the file and I'm not sure about how to insert the corresponding
gettext tags, since the content is mixed with labels defined (and correctly
internationalized) in speakers.def.

For example, in this line:

languages German, English

languages refers to the file speakers.def and it's correctly
internationalized (translations from newsevents.XX.po), but German and
English remain in English, cannot be translated currently.

If somebody gives and example about how to fix this (e.g. how the former line
should be rewritten), I could prepare a patch for the whole file.

Bug#785544: goocanvasmm: Build with latest goocanvas in Experimental

2015-05-17 Thread Ross Gammon
Source: goocanvasmm
Version: 0.15.4-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I would like to adopt the goocanvas package and move it to unstable, so I am
checking through the reverse dependencies.

Goocanvasmm builds fine for me with the version of goocanvas in experimental
(2.0.2). However, I cannot locate any helpful documentation about API changes
(that is a dummies list of API changes) to know if goocanvasmm would work
properly with this version or not. Although the version in Debian is quite old

Are there any plans to update goocanvasmm (I have found a 1.90 version) and
test against the goocanvas in experimental?

 Dear Maintainer,
After upgrade to latest testing nouveau driver colors in X became ugly. Also
 all cursor graphics became garbaged.
KDE's jumping icons upon start of application became garbage.

The nouveau driver has not seen any source changes, this seems to be an
endianness bug in the new X server (or its headers).

 Possibly related: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1206060,

Here is the patch that's in Fedora 22. I don't know if this one should
be applied or if we should rather cherry-pick the upstream commit.

I guess this is somehow related to the handling of stderr in

I see this it uses Capture::Tiny, so this is probably the

FWIW, I can't reproduce this locally anymore right now.

I'm merging this bug with #781216: that's two ways to achieve the same
goal.

I've uploaded wkhtmltopdf 0.12.2.2-1 a few days ago with a -dbg package.
It's pending in the new queue[1] (because of this new binary package)
but it could take some time to be processed.

Bug#785547: ncl-ncarg: No Plots possible, environment varables are not set/don't work correctly

2015-05-17 Thread pick
Package: ncl-ncarg
Version: 6.2.0-3+b1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

Something is wrong with the (hardcoded) environment variables in the NCL
Package.
As soon as NCL needs the environment variable $NCARG_ROOT and its
derivatives, it complains not finding the specified path. Even a hand export of
the env doesn't help.

-What led up to the situation?
Just running a script with plotting and some load sections.

-What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)?
I tried to set $NCARG_ROOT by hand, but it didn't get any better. I also tried
to build NCL from source, but with all the dependencies, it was unsuccessful.

Thank you for your time and maintaining this package.

Dominik

Hi!

While working on Debian's “reproducible builds” effort [1], we have
noticed that dist doesn't build reproducibly.
It embeds the hostname and domainname into a script.

The attached patch sets those values to reproducible ones.

One last thing... If you are able to try it then it would be interesting

That's a gain of a couple of M in the space of a couple of releases, how

2015-05-17 Thread Ross Gammon
Package: gpredict
Version: 1.3-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

The latest version of goocanvas has been sitting in experimental for some time
(2.0.2). Now that Jessie has been released, I am looking at the reverse
dependencies to see what needs fixing and updating to allow the goocanvas
transition to start.

I have built gpredict against the experimental version of goocanvas and it
fails to build. This is the tail of the log:

Bug#785552: [rsync] [sender] expand file_list pointer array to 524288 bytes, did not move

2015-05-17 Thread Marco Righi
Package: rsync
Version:
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,
I have the board ODROID-XU3 described at the end of this mail.

I have installed four 2TB disks, two USB3 disks (called main_a and
main_b) and two USB2 disks (called backup_a and backup_b). The USB2
disks are connected to a powered usb2 hub and the USB3 disks are
connected to a powered usb3 hub.

Every night I performed a rsync from main_a to backup_a and from main_b
to backup_b.

It is some days that I can not perform a backup from main_a to backup_a.
The script I use contains the following string:

rsync -avhd --no-g --size-only --update --delete --verbose --progress
--log-file=/root/log/rsync_from_main_a_to_mirror_a_verbose.log
/media/main_a/ /media/mirror_a/

I tried to use reportbug but I got an error:

*** ERROR: Ubuntu BTS is currently unsupported. Please use
ubuntu-bug (from the apport package) for reporting bugs in Ubuntu. You
can report bugs to
Debian by specifying 'bts debian' in your ~/.reportbugrc or by passing
the -B debian option on the commandline (see reportbug(1)).

Bug#785018: KVM internal error and emulation failure

  emulation mode support finit?

Yes, it should strive to support all instructions. But there are a lot,
and since it's only used for big real mode you pick your fights. If
you're on a pre-Westmere chip and your program uses the FPU in big real
mode, it's probably not using any fancy KVM feature and then it's faster
to use QEMU's translator instead of KVM.

Thus, the emulator covers most non-FPU instructions, and all
instructions that access memory (because those are used for MMIO even if
  not in big real mode).

That doesn't explain, though, why this same BIOS image works fine with
-enable-kvm on a Sandy Bridge system.

Found it. It's eptad; you can avoid the problem by loading kvm-intel
 with eptad=N.

OVMF used to place page tables in ROM, which works on real hardware,
and also works on VMs except:

 - on AMD systems

 - on Intel systems, if you have EPT page tables with A/D bits on

Why? Because on these systems, the processor treat page table accesses as
writes. (Why piggyback this on enabling accessed and dirty flags
for EPT? the answer is probably deep in the EPT microcode). For Intel,
see 28.2.3.2 (EPT Violations) and 28.2.4 (Accessed and Dirty Flags
 for EPT) in the SDM.

That's...special. Is there no way to work around that? In general, it
seems like a bug if KVM cannot faithfully simulate real hardware.

We did fix it for eptad=N and ept=N (commit ba6a35415455, KVM: mmu:
allow page tables to be in read-only slots, 2013-09-09), but ultimately
the processor does not cooperate. You need to update OVMF to a more
recent version, which builds page tables at run time instead of
 embedding them in the FD:

 commit c90e37b503d4e79dbebbd49f9bfc3c6c14ffb67d
 Author: Jordan Justen jordan.l.jus...@intel.com
 Date: Tue Sep 24 18:23:20 2013 +

OvmfPkg: Add platform specific reset vector code for X64

KVM has a bug that prevents using page tables in the ROM if the ROM
region utilizes the KVM READONLY memory feature. Therefore, we
avoid using page tables stored in the ROM.

Since OVMF doesn't require memory initialization, we just build
page table entries in RAM at 0x8 very early in the OVMF boot
process. This address is just after the 'temp RAM' which is set
 up by the SEC module.

Currently we only set up 4GB of page tables for OVMF's PEI,
but DxeIpl will build identity mapped page tables that cover all
of the available processor physical address space.

I can confirm that updating to a newer OVMF makes this problem go away.
If there's no way of supporting page tables in ROM with eptad, then you
can go ahead and close this bug.

Bug#784854: RFS: gtk3-engines-unico/1.0.3+14.04.20140109+repack1-1 [ITA] [RC]

2015-05-17 Thread James Lu

Hello Vincent,

I have uploaded a new manually packed tarball of the Bzr trunk, with
version 1.0.3+bzr152-1 instead of the +14.04.20140109 Ubuntu had in its
repository. I didn't make that clear, but a bad version number could
accidentally replace the package they have AFAIK.

As for the package truly being orphaned, I assume that the people who
filed the report already knew what was going on. The LDAP database
didn't find anything for Karolina Kalic or karol...@resenje.org, and the
package has been orphaned for almost 2 years now. Two of their packages
appear to have new maintainers already
https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=karolina%40resenje.org
(curtain and spotlighter).

Either way, I'll Cc them on this conversation now. I'm not sure what has
been done already, and what still has to be done.

Best,
James

Hi James,

Hi,

Okay. Forget what I said about quilt, I don't think it'd fix this particular
issue either.

Right now, the problem is in the original source (aka the .orig.tar). The
INSTALL file isn't even installed in the final binary, but just having a
symlink in the original source is enough to make Lintian complain. Adding a
debian/clean file only removes the INSTALL file from the extracted tree, but
not the .orig.tar.gz.

I could add a Lintian override if this is appropriate.

Just from what you've said above, I'd ignore the lintian error
entirely; if INSTALL is never used during the build process or
installed into any of the binary packages produced by your source
package, then source-contains-unsafe-symlink is quite harmless. It
_is_ a valid lintian error though, since the orig tarball upstream
presumably contains an INSTALL file symlinked above the root of the
source package, and removing it via debian/clean doesn't change that.

Where did you obtain this orig tarball? I can't seem to find a tarball
versioned as 1.0.3+14.04.20140109 at [1]; if you actually are rolling
your own tarball instead of using one provided upstream, then why not
get rid of that symlink in your tarball?

Also, this may seem to be a formality, but is this package actually
orphaned? Neither the maintainer nor the MIA team filed #717044; a
random user deciding to ITA the package out of the blue is more or
less hijacking the package. Please follow the steps outlined in
devref 5.9.4/5.9.5 [2] to properly orphan a package and adopt it.

Regards,
Vincent

I have just implement one half of this: a -w/--overwrite option that
will, well, overwrite the files under debian/ that dh-make-ruby would
have created if they didn't exist before.

It seems that the other half (--refresh itself) should be easy, but I
didn't get yet what's the idea. Should dh-make-ruby move debian/ away,
recreate a fresh debian and then let the user use meld/whatever against
 them manually?

That's the idea, yes. But maybe it's best done outside of gem2deb,
manually by the user? I'm not sure anymore. Maybe upload with -w only,
and we will see later if there's still a need for an option that moves
or copies debian/?

About the re-licensing of php_ext/ming.c and php_ext/php_ming.h, does
the relevant Github issue [1] mean that the re-licensing wasn't
actually ACK-ed by all the contributors of these files? This sounds
like this might be a blocker?

debian/copyright:
- various files in e.g. src/blocks/ are also copyrighted by Klaus
Rechert, not just the specific stanzas you've listed in d/copyright
- perl_ext/SWF/BinaryData.pm:# Copyright (c) 2009 Albrecht Kleine
- a small portion of ch/pkgcreate.ch is Copyright 2005
SoftIntegration, Inc., public domain
- java_ext/* doesn't seem to be licensed under LGPL-2.1+ as claimed by
d/copyright, but under this license instead:

This software is copyright 2001 E-Publishing Group Inc. Permission is granted
to use the code and/or make changes to the code provided that the original
copyright and author attribution is included in each file.

The license does not make any warranty of liability, merchantability, or
fitness for any specific purpose.

Please contact the author jsh...@e-shuppan.com if you have any questions
about the license or the software.

- debian/ming-fonts-{dejavu,opensymbol}.copyright not converted to
DEP-5; that's fine, although it's worth pointing out that
ming-fonts-opensymbol.copyright has an unversioned symlink to the
LGPL.

There's a variety of other things that can be done to
improve/modernize the package, e.g. DEP-3 patch headers, conversion of
d/rules to dh shorthand, etc., but I suppose you want to tackle the
copyright/licensing issues as that's what got the package removed from
testing in the first place?

Regards,
Vincent

Bug#785579: wpa_supplicant: terminates as soon as dbus is disconnected, causing shutdown ordering issues

2015-05-17 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi

Am 18.05.2015 um 00:33 schrieb Facundo Gaich:
While trying to debug issues related to systemd unmounting NFS shares way
after the network has gone down, I ran into problems trying to stop services
 before wpa_supplicant initiated deauth.

Even tying my service (autofs.service) to NetworkManager with
 After=NetworkManager.service
didn't work, wireless would get disconnected before it could unmount over the
 net.

This is because wpa_supplicant will shutdown when the dbus is disconnected

...

Since this relationship is not set in the systemd configuration, the only way
to correctly shutdown services that require wireless connection is to
set After=dbus.service in them. Of course, this is not evident in any way, and
it can cause bugs such as #761909.

I'm not sure what the solution would be in this case, I'm cc'ing the systemd
maintainers since it seems to me they have tackled this kind of problems with
 wlan before.

This issue has come up before and will hopefully become moot in the
future, once we have kdbus. See

 Thx for your review!

debian/copyright is missing a few entries:
 - src/serial/*: Copyright 1997-2001 John E. Stone (j.st...@acm.org),
 3-clause BSD (+ upstream author)

 Should be fixed.

You're also missing Thomas Anderson t...@nextgenengineering.com as the
copyright holder for a number of files in src/magellan/. (In case you
haven't done so already, please take the time to do a thorough
license/copyright check yourself when adopting/packaging new
 packages.)

Damn, you're right, I definitely need to check more carefully the
licenses and copyrights! licensecheck seems to be a good helper :)

By the way, I also suggest that you use start-stop-daemon in your
sysvinit script, especially since you're shipping a script of your own
 here.

 Init script updated.

The new version is there :
 http://mentors.debian.net/package/spacenavd

Looks good, except for one last thing I should've checked earlier
(sorry for these piecemeal reviews); your orig tarball doesn't seem to
match the tarball distributed upstream:

upstream md5sum: 7e2c04fb8dbb7d39b9ee7b64565e0c4f
mentors.d.n tarball md5sum: 0fbcb66a9ef8368fb3de5397b14eb991

Please ensure that you're using the same tarball as upstream is; if
you must repack it (e.g. to satisfy DFSG), please change the version
string (appending +dfsg is typical in this scenario) and add a brief
explanation to d/README.source or d/copyright. If you're using
git-buildpackage or similar helpers without e.g. pristine-tar, or some
other way of reconstructing pristine tarballs, you're going to end up
with a tarball with a different hashsum as well.

(Also, re: #781185, you didn't actually retitle the wnpp bug and set
yourself as owner.)

Vincent

I didn't make that clear, but a bad version number could accidentally
replace the package they have AFAIK.

Ok, that works.

BTW, I still don't see where you're getting this +14.04.20140109
tarball from. Ubuntu simply doesn't have this version packaged [1] in
its repository (I haven't checked PPAs, but they aren't relevant to
this discussion), so I'm afraid I don't understand why you're worried
about a version number collision here.

As for the package truly being orphaned, I assume that the people who filed
the report already knew what was going on. The LDAP database didn't find
anything for Karolina Kalic or karol...@resenje.org, and the package has
been orphaned for almost 2 years now. Two of their packages appear to have
new maintainers already (curtain and spotlighter).

Either way, I'll Cc them on this conversation now. I'm not sure what has
been done already, and what still has to be done.

Again, please follow the instructions mentioned in devref 5.9.5,

It looks like she did not do anything about critical bug #706330
since 2013-07-17 which IMHO justifies takeover because she is obviously not
active or at least appears to be not on top of her maintainer's duties...

I would assign ITA bug to the package, express my intention to take over to
the bug and to current maintainer, wait for some time and eventually proceed
with upload (provided that everything is OK with packaging and there are no
 objections from maintainer).

I'd argue that the right approach is still to contact the MIA team and
ask them to investigate and reach out to the supposedly missing
maintainer. The thing is, either way (MIA team involved, or not) you'd
usually want to wait an indeterminate amount of time for the old

follow the devref guidelines. The MIA team is fairly active AFAIK, and

Bug#785588: Plug computer images don't boot

See https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2015/05/msg00590.html

The problem is that the way these machines are handled in the kernel
has changed. We now have to append a device tree blob (DTB) to the
kernel image in d-i.

I'll commit a patch soon.

No objections from me. :)

I just wanted to mention another approach to friendly takeover for

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading xfce4-panel from 4.10.1-1 to 4.12.0-2, I noticed the
workspace switch showing very narrow workspaces. I use one workspace
with 4 viewports (compiz), the new pager correctly finds out 4 virtual
workspaces, but the sizing part is not doing the same...

I'm using the open source ati graphics with a 3-screen setup. After upgrading
to unstable after the release of Jessie everything ran without issue.

I booted into a seperate install of Jessie on the same computer that had
flgrx installed, and after rebooting into unstable one of the screens
(connected by a HDMI cable) has acquired a distinct green tinge that obscures
whatever the screen is trying to show. It is a sort of neon green.

This image is a graphical corruption bug - I took a screenshot using
ksnapshot and on my other two screens the image dispaled withouth the green
 tinge.

 The tinge is not present:
   * In the BIOS
   * When GRUB is active
   * Early in the boot process when the kernel is still printing text
   * On a separate Debian install on the same hardware, using fglrx

I tried changing the gamma settings of the screen and poking at the backlight
settings but this did not help. Changing the gamma made a very slight
difference but the tinge does nto seem to be caused by a rogue gamma setting.

At some points during, eg, shutdown my screens go blank - usually this is
black but at present the green tinged screen goes straight green.

It sounds like there might be a problem with the physical display
connection. Have you checked the connector seating at both ends, maybe
unplugging and re-plugging them, or even using a different cable?

Bug#785589: tiger: Don't have required command DIFF on Linux 4

2015-05-17 Thread Francois Marier
Package: tiger
Version: 1:3.2.3-12.1

tiger doesn't support Linux 4 and spits this out on cron every hour:

The fix is to add a new symlink:

I've attached a patch for the package.

Bug#784900: Installing of a new language causes that other locales are registered as outdated

2015-05-17 Thread sworddragon2
And again: I'm reporting this specifically against upstream. At least the
manpage of locale-gen from Ubuntu implies that this is here. And since the
binary locale-gen does contain this bug (except it should be fixed in a newer
version) theoretically the current maintainer should be responsible for
handling it. Also as long as Debian does provide the binary locale-gen in any
package it is theoretically affected by this bug but maybe just hiding it in
the default setup. But maybe an user that makes some user-defined changes could
stumble over it.

Bug#771778: squid3: Pinger segfault with libc

2015-05-17 Thread Gerald Turner
Package: squid3
Version: 3.4.8-6
Followup-For: Bug #771778

Hi, since upgrading to jessie I have noticed pinger segfaulting on three
separate installations. I am using the stock squid3 3.4.8-6 package and
it's dependencies. Initially I had ignored the complaints (kernel
message sent via logcheck), since the squids continue to function.
However this morning two distinct hosts had pinger segfault within a few
hours of each other, so I decided to investigate further.

Segfaults since upgrading to jessie:

  Apr 18 15:01:08 host-1 kernel: [15564213.180446] pinger[17145]: segfault at
c0067c0098 ip 7fc239e90e62 sp 7fff64541e70 error 4 in

  May 17 08:40:04 host-2 kernel: [1430099.672549] traps: pinger[14608] general
protection ip:7efc1ddc68e0 sp:7fff05636118 error:0 in pinger[7efc1ddbd000+f000]

After a segfault, no pinger process is respawned, yet squid still
handles requests as though it doesn't need the process. The squid
configuration reference documentation doesn't do a good job of
explaining what the pinger is used for, but FWICT, it's used to measure
closest cache_peers (of which I have none configured), and possibly, as
best as I understand it, determine closest origin server,
i.e. www.debian.org has two IPv4 addresses, perhaps squid determines
which has closer RTT - which sounds appealing but I haven't been able to
prove it's actually doing this.

So I've set debug_options ALL,1 42,6, and on an idle squid server the
cache.log is filling up with Recv: xx bytes from yy.yy.yy.yy, and the
IP's are a mix of IPv4 address from all over the world, and IPv6
link-local addresses from neighboring equipment at my VPS. At one point
the timestamps rolled backwards by 53 minutes. Within a few minutes a
segfault occurred, and again after another restart, and a third time
after about an hour. Unfortunately my attempts to get a core dump have
been futile (I had set LimitCORE=infinity in squid3.service).

The second of these segfaults showed the following in cache.log (whereas
the other crashes had been silent in cache.log):

  *** Error in `(pinger)': corrupted double-linked list: 0x7fea972c4110 ***

The whole thing is rather disconcerting. Could the net be plagued with
squid pinger DoS attacks?

  # ss -lnp | grep pinger
  raw UNCONN 214656 0 *:1*:* users:((pinger,pid=6200,fd=3))
  raw  UNCONN  214656  0  :::58  :::*  users:((pinger,pid=6200,fd=4))

Port 1 huh, what voodoo is this?

Bug#750135: Initial draft of resolution

2015-05-17 Thread Sam Hartman
Proposed for your consideration and checked into git for your editing:

Background/Rationale (Constitution 6.1(5)):

1. In #750135, the
technical committee was asked by Manuel Fernandez Montecelo who should
be the maintainer of the aptitude projectp. He had been actively committing
until his commit access was removed by Daniel Hartwig. Manuel and Daniel took
over development of aptitude in 2011 with the support of Christian Perrier, an
admin for the aptitude alioth project. There was friction between Manuel and
Daniel, which eventually resulted in Manuel's commit access being revoked by
Daniel. Since then, Daniel has become inactive, and did not comment on the
issue when requested by the technical committee.

2) During the discussion of this issue, Christian proposed that he and
Axel Beckert could watch the social aspects of aptitude development
and restore Manuel's commit access. Christian still has
administrative rights and believes he has the technical power to implement his
proposal. However he wants review from a broader audience before implementing
that proposal.

Advice (Constitution 6.1.5):

1. The technical committee agrees that Christian has the power to implement
his proposal and encourages him to do so.

2. The committee agrees that restoring Manuel's committ access is a
good step to move Aptitude development forward. Since there is a
clear way to accomplish this goal within the existing Aptitude project
support that approach.

3. We hope that Christian and Axel will work to managed the social
aspects of the Aptitude project, working to recruit new developers,
building a stronger Aptitude development community, and establishing
policies and procedures that promote a collaborative team. Sometimes
the skills necessary to grow a community ar different than the skills
to develop a project. Through this approach we hope the Aptitude
community will gain both sets of skills.

4. We thank Manuel for bringing this matter to our attention and
apologize for our delay in resolving this matter.

Which was reported in bug #728144 wherein Amos Jeffries says the bug had
been forwarded to http://bugs.squid-cache.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2656,
however that upstream bug is from 2009 dealing with Pre-Init TZ env
which I've confrimed is already patched in squid3 3.4.8-6.

check availability of public key for the subkey.

With a fix below, now, it fails with emitting error like this:

gpg: encrypted with ELG-E key, ID 9541DC07
gpg: public key decryption failed: public key not found
gpg: decryption failed: secret key not available

I think that the message would be confusing for a user a bit (as it
is explained from the view point of the implementation), but
it's much better.

xserver-xorg-core depends on one of libegl1-mesa|libegl1 while the virtual
package seems to be named libegl1-x11 - which is also the package
libegl1-mesa provides.

So currently it will lead to problems if an alternative package (like a
binary driver) does provide libegl1-x11 but not libegl1.

Bug#785578: libusb occasionally hangs after suspend/resume

2015-05-17 Thread Alexander Ponyatykh
Package: libusb
Version: 2:0.1.12-25
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu wily ubuntu-patch

Dear Maintainer,

I'm trying to make g15daemon correctly recover after suspend/resume and found
that it occasionally hangs after resume in libusb's usb_urb_transfer()
(linux.c) on this line:
ioctl(dev-fd, IOCTL_USB_REAPURB, context);

After some research I found that linux kernel internally has lists of pending
and completed requests. All requests - successful or not - are moved from
pending list to completed list, no requests should be lost. But it looks like
after suspend/resume some request may be lost (may be a kernel bug). It that
case IOCTL_USB_REAPURB would hang forever since request it's waiting for will
never appear on completed list.

There is simple workaround. After preceding IOCTL_USB_DISCARDURB call our
request is guaranteed to be completed, so there is no need to use blocking
IOCTL_USB_DISCARDURB, we may use non-blocking IOCTL_USB_REAPURBNDELAY instead.

I've attached patch with this workaround. It also fixes race condition existed
in original code, which may cause corruption of stack.

  * Added debian/patches/12_hang_after_resume.diff to fix occasional hang
after suspend/resume. (LP: #1455924)

Thanks for considering the patch.

Linux file managers should ask for admin authentication when root

unfortunately they don't do that yet.

I'm open to suggestions, and I would understand if this wasn't accepted.

Sorry, I clicked Reply and forgot to add your e-mail to the To field.

I'm going to add a warning to the package description (the warning that

I'm also going to change the code, as upstream, to display a warning

Bug#785579: wpa_supplicant: terminates as soon as dbus is disconnected, causing shutdown ordering issues

2015-05-17 Thread Facundo Gaich
Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 2.3-2
Severity: normal
File: /sbin/wpa_supplicant

Dear Maintainer,

While trying to debug issues related to systemd unmounting NFS shares way
after the network has gone down, I ran into problems trying to stop services
before wpa_supplicant initiated deauth.

Even tying my service (autofs.service) to NetworkManager with
After=NetworkManager.service
didn't work, wireless would get disconnected before it could unmount over the
net.

This is because wpa_supplicant will shutdown when the dbus is disconnected, as
seen in these logs:

wpa_supplicant[919]: dbus: bus disconnected, terminating
wpa_supplicant[919]: wlan0: Removing interface wlan0
wpa_supplicant[919]: wlan0: Request to deauthenticate - bssid=REDACTED
pending_bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3 state=COMPLETED
wpa_supplicant[919]: TDLS: Tear down peers
wpa_supplicant[919]: wpa_driver_nl80211_deauthenticate(addr=REDACTED
reason_code=3)
wpa_supplicant[919]: wlan0: Event DEAUTH (12) received
wpa_supplicant[919]: wlan0: Deauthentication notification
wpa_supplicant[919]: wlan0: * reason 3 (locally generated)
wpa_supplicant[919]: Deauthentication frame IE(s) - hexdump(len=0): [NULL]
wpa_supplicant[919]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=REDACTED reason=3
locally_generated=1

Thanks,
Facundo

Hi James,

I'm unable to review your packaging at this time.

On Sun, 17 May 2015 17:13:34 James Lu wrote:

No he did not know. #717044 was filed by person who is not a Debian Developer
and not even Debian Maintainer. Clearly he is not familiar with orphaning
procedure...

 The LDAP database
didn't find anything for Karolina Kalic or karol...@resenje.org,

This is expected as she is also not a Debian Developer. Database is only for
official members of Debian project and it does not list all contributors.

However there is some scarce information here:

https://contributors.debian.org/contributor/karolina-guest%40alioth

 and the
package has been orphaned for almost 2 years now. Two of their packages
appear to have new maintainers already
 https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=karolina%40resenje.org
 (curtain and spotlighter).

Either way, I'll Cc them on this conversation now. I'm not sure what has
been done already, and what still has to be done.

Good.

Description : daemon to protect disk for laptops with supported sensors

The accelerometer drivers for HP and DELL laptops are already available
in the linux kernel for a while. A daemon is required to handle the
events generated by the drivers.

This program is included in the kernel source. It will do the user-space
jobs: to park/un-park disk head when something happens, and make LEDs
blink accordingly.

I don't think you need to file an ITP for a package that will be built
from the linux source package already in Debian.

I notice that there is another implementation of this idea that supports
more laptops than the Linux one, should these two be merged or what?

Bug#785592: nodm: please handle shutdown signal received while restarting session

2015-05-17 Thread Ryan Tandy
Package: nodm
Version: 0.11-1.3
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

When I shut down the computer, nodm does not quit when told to, but just
restarts my session, leading to a minor but annoying delay until systemd
times out and forcibly terminates it.

It seems that this is caused by systemd killing my session and stopping
nodm in parallel. I can easily reproduce the problem by doing:

pkill -u ryan nodm pkill -u root nodm

I guess this is caused by nodm only listening for the quit signal while
it's in its main loop, but not while it's busy managing children.

It would be nice if nodm would respect the stop command and abort the
session restart.

Bug#785494: [linux-image-4.0.0-1-amd64] USB3 device errors (on empty ports)

2015-05-17 Thread jnqnfe
Control: close -1
Control: archive -1

Update: To my surprise, the problem seems to have disappeared.

What changed?
1) A handful of minor package updates since it last occurred, nothing
jumps out at me as something that might affect this.
2) Having noticed that one of the fans on my GPU has stopped working, I
installed lm-sensors to check the GPU temp. This obviously has resulted
in a couple of additional kernel modules being loaded.
3) Before this latest boot of the machine, I removed the GPU temporarily
to clean out any dust, on the off chance of that making any difference
to the non-functioning fan, and reconnected everything as before after
doing so. For the duration of this I turned the PSU off.

USB 3-3 appears to be a USB hub:

 [1.318051] usb 3-3: New USB device found, idVendor=174c, idProduct=2074
 [1.318052] usb 3-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3,

Bug#784328: fvwm (2.6.5) does not detect hotkeys

2015-05-17 Thread Claude Krantz

Dear Vincent,

Thanks for investigating this. Based on your observation, I looked once more
more systematically into the problem.

Most of my Debian machines are headless: I normally run FVWM inside a VNC-server
(tightvncserver 1.3.9-6.5). For testing I attached a physical terminal to two of
the machines and started the same FVWM session inside a real X.org-server:
Indeed, in the physical X11-session, the FVWM keybindings always work as
expected. Inside the VNC-server they work for FVWM 2.5.30 (from the wheezy
package), but not for FVWM 2.6.5 (jessie).

So after all, this bug may have been triggered by a change in VNC rather than in
FVWM. Still, downgrading FVWM from 2.6.5 to 2.5.30 is the only viable solution I
have found up to now, in an effort to stay as close as possible to a stable
jessie setup. I tried changing my VNC-server from tightvncserver to vnc4server,
but this changes nothing to the problem. I also tried various VNC clients:
xtightvncviewer, KRDC (from Ubuntu 12.04), and UltraVNC (from Windows) - they
all exhibit the same keybinding problem in combination with FVWM 2.6.5. Also -
as mentioned previously - I have the exact same setup (FVWM 2.6.5 within
tightvncserver) working flawlessly on FreeBSD, so I still do not believe this is
an upstream issue.

Feel free to re-classify the bug, as it is definitely less important than I
first thought - given that most users will run on physical X displays. Still I
hope the issue can be fixed somehow fro me - either from the FVWM or from the
VNC-server side ...

Yours,

Claude
