Bug#794444: python3-networkx should conflict with python3-pygraphviz

2015-08-02 Thread Johannes Schauer
Package: python3-networkx
Version: 1.9.1-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

python3-networkx is able to use python3-pygraphviz as wells as
python3-pydot for drawing dot graphs. If both are installed, then the
former will be used.

Unfortunately it seems that python3-pygraphviz is unable to render
graphs with vertex attributes which makes it unfit for drawing all but
the most trivial graphs.

Since the presence of python3-pygraphviz will make python3-networkx use
it over python3-pydot (which does not suffer from this problem), I
suggest that python3-networkx conflicts with python3-pygraphviz until
the problem is either fixed in networkx or pygraphviz upstream.

To test the problem yourself, try to do the following with
python3-pygraphviz installed:

python3 -c 'import networkx as nx;
G=nx.Graph();G.add_node(1,foo="bar");nx.write_dot(G, "out")'

The command will never terminate. It on the other hand immediately
finishes (as expected) if python3-pygraphviz is not installed but
python3-pydot is.

This bug is causing problems with my package botch which depends on
python3-networkx for graph drawing. Instead of botch conflicting with
python3-pygraphviz, I'd like to see this conflict in python3-networkx
itself.

Thanks!

cheers, josch

Bug#794441: obnam: chunk ... does not exist

2015-08-02 Thread Vladmimir Stavrinov
Package: obnam
Version: 1.13-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The problem with nonexistent chunks still exists. I have tried to run Your
software few times with options:

--fsck-fix --fsck-rm-unused --no-fsck-ignore-chunks --no-fsck-skip-dirs
--no-fsck-skip-files --no-fsck-skip-generations
--no-fsck-skip-per-client-b-trees --no-fsck-skip-shared-b-trees fsck

but every time there was a lot of messages like this:

chunk ... does not exist
checksum whole-file checksum mismatch

This means that fsck command does nothing and repository remains broken. Why
this command does not remove references pointing to nonexistent chunk when it
finds such ones? And what to do with "checksum mismatch"? Does this mean the
file is broken? If so, why do You not remove them?

If there are no way to keep repository in consistent state, then we compelled
to start new repository every time when it gets broken. This is bad methodology
and if there are no other solutions, I am not sure that such backup software is
usable at all. This is sad news.

Bug#794442: [kde-full] Windows frames disappears!!!!

2015-08-02 Thread Marco Righi
Package: kde-full
Version: 5:84
Severity: critical

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,
after the last upgrade session the applications in my KDE Plasma has
lost the windows frames. Even if I use alt-tab it is not possible to
switch from an application to another one.

The only way to get the access to KDE menu' is closing all the applications.

I have try to delete

rm $HOME/.kde* -Rf

without resolving the problem.

I have not .xsession in my configuration.

I have updated the system setting application (icon) because the
previous was not executable.

KDE openbox works fine with my previous settings.

Command 502 of 4 #apt-show-versions kwin-x11
kwin-x11:amd64/testing 4:5.3.2-3 uptodate
kwin-x11:i386 not installed

If I install plasma-workspace apt-get removes automatically the
following packages

  kde-plasma-netbook kde-workspace kde-workspace-bin kde-workspace-data
kdeartwork-style kdeartwork-theme-window klipper kscreensaver
  kscreensaver-xsavers kscreensaver-xsavers-webcollage
libkactivities-bin openbox-kde-session plasma-desktopthemes-artwork

Consider that my kde was perfectly full-operating before some upgrades ago.

Please write me if you think I can provide you informations.

Thanks for your work

Bug#793210: libfontconfig1 missing in openjdk-8-jre-headless

2015-08-02 Thread Joel Chen
Hi Emmanuel,

Thank you for the followup.

Looking forward to have libfontconfig1 added in the next version of
openjdk-8-jre-headless, so that my projects and others' projects can run
smoothly on the latest Java Docker container.

Warmest Regards,
Joel

I originally thought it's a 32 bits issue. But what about s390x, alpha
and ppc64?

Specifically this is the second issue (see below).

Those symbols seem to actually come from libpj.

I guess that the symbols file there is broken: it contains a host of
symbols from other sub-packages.

I think that under uGet2, command uget-gtk-1to2 can convert setting from
old uGet files.

Guillem Jover spotted my use of an undefined architecture variable.
Updating the patch.

Bug#793888: ui-gxmlcpp includes autogenerated files that cannot be rebuilt from source

currently, ui-gxmlcpp doesn't build at all:

https://qa.debian.org/dose/debcheck/src_unstable_main/1438491604/packages/ui-gxmlcpp.html#6f35b7a5db3b524f612e0ace6da69b31

so instead I used a snaphsot from July 1 2015 and then built in a clean chroot
with `dh --with autoreconf` and additional build dependencies on dh-autoreconf
and ui-auto.

To my surprise, the package was then buildable. This was strange because I
could swear I tried the exact same thing before reporting the bug and only
re-did it now to get the error log (which I should've done initially).

So with autoreconf and when build depending on ui-auto, the package indeed
successfully builds (at least with the archive of July 1 2015) and thus I'm
adjusting the severity.

Thanks!

cheers, josch

Just an update for the situation with lvm2 2.02.126-2:
- all affected systems are running the amd64 architecture
- all systems are up to date Debian unstable/main

using initramfs-tools 0.120:
- most systems are broken with lvm2 2.02.126-2, to varying degrees.
the problem is apparently timing sensitive, systems using a SSD
for the system paths (with their dedicated volume group) are less
likely to fail booting, but occassionally they still do break.
- doing a local bin-NMU of lvm2 2.02.126-2, in order to update
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-lvm-metad.rules with the changes pointed out
by Michael Biebl helps me on all non-mdadm == lvm2-only systems.
Not a single failed boot on these systems so far.
- lvm2 (2.02.126-2) on top of mdadm (RAID1) fails reliably for me,
regardless of the bin-NMU for 69-lvm-metad.rules or staying on
the plain lvm2 2.02.126-2; I'm aware of #793631 and just mention
it because the update to lvm2 2.02.126-2 doesn't appear to make
  a difference.

using dracut 040+1-1:
- all lvm-only systems are booting fine, no local bin-NMU needed.
- the mdadm(RAID1)+lvm2 system is also booting reliably, no local
  bin-NMU needed.
- no issues found with the current lvm2 and dracut (but I obviously
don't need any special initramfs hooks/ scripts)

I have same problem.
I tried to downgrade old (deb7u4) package and check again, it works fine.

Currentry disabling SSLCertificateChainFile is a workaround, but

great, thanks

the package is too old for 2 reasons

- not long ago jessie was released, before that we were in freeze
- 0.9.8 is the latest python version of asciinema.

I never packaged a go application for debian before, it is on my TODO
list but it will take more time (it is a new thing for me)

Daniel, I'm sorry you found the program does not work, I haven't use it
in a while so I wasn't aware of the breakage.

Marcin, could you release a last python version, a patch is fine too,
which uses https? I could upload that right away while I work on
packaging the latest version

2015-08-02 Thread Carlos Kosloff

Package: partitionmanager

Severity: grave

Dear Maintainer,

* What led up to the situation?

I recently updated my KDE desktop to plasma5 which entails a lot of
changes, lots of things not working yet, including this one.

partitionmanager errors out saying that root password incorrect.
This is a false positive, root password is correct.
I tested it on other programs that depend on it, like Synaptic Package
Manager.

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?

I just launched partition manager from an icon in my desktop

 * What was the outcome of this action?

  * What outcome did you expect instead?

A normal launch like in plasma4

Bug#794191: [php-maint] Bug#794191: php5-mysql: PHP is compiled with old version of the MySQL headers

2015-08-02 Thread Julian Calaby
Hi Ondřej,

I urge you apply that patch when you can.

Debian already handles the API changes this is warning against through
library versions, so the warning is unnecessary in Debian's packages.

Frustratingly, this harmless little warning means I can't run some of
the software I'm developing with full error messages as I can't filter
out only those warnings.

I'll deal with this by installing mysql-5.6 from Sid, but I'm guessing
this might hurt other developers, so applying that patch is probably a
good idea.

Thanks,

Julian Calaby

Bug#794437: redis-server: systemd ExecStop is incorrect if port is changed

2015-08-02 Thread Chris Kuehl
Package: redis-server
Version: 2:3.0.3-2
Severity: normal

Howdy maintainer,

If I change the port Redis listens on (e.g. to listen only on a UNIX
socket), the ExecStop line in redis-server (which calls redis-cli
shutdown) is then incorrect. When I try to stop redis-server, syslog
shows:

Aug 2 17:42:53 anthrax systemd[1]: Stopping Advanced key-value store...
Aug 2 17:42:53 anthrax redis-cli[4099]: Could not connect to Redis at
127.0.0.1:6379: Connection refused
Aug 2 17:42:53 anthrax systemd[1]: redis-server.service: Control process
exited, code=exited status=1
Aug 2 17:42:53 anthrax systemd[1]: Stopped Advanced key-value store.
Aug 2 17:42:53 anthrax systemd[1]: redis-server.service: Unit entered
failed state.
Aug 2 17:42:53 anthrax systemd[1]: redis-server.service: Failed with
result 'exit-code'.

Simply removing the ExecStop line fixes this (presumably systemd sends a
SIGTERM or something to the process). This seems like a reasonable fix
(looks like it's basically what `/etc/init.d/redis-server` does).

Many thanks!
Chris

Bug#791262: qtwebkit-opensource-src: library transition may be needed when GCC 5 is the default

thanks

This package only needs symbols fixes, which I already fix and pushed to our
repos. I'm not uploading the package not only because all buildds are still
not ready but because if I do so this package will surely need a binNMU later,
which would be wasting buildds' time and power. Moreover this is webkit, which
takes hours to build on some archs...

Anyway, the package is ready to be built and pushed as soon as it's necessary.

Hmm. I thought gnome-terminal captured /, but I know
xterm doesn't.

Can you try with "vim -u NONE -N -p ..." and see if that works?

I guess in general, perhaps "gcc" could be resolved by symlink(s), and
of course, other pages should only refer to "gcc" when they're sure the
version isn't relevant.

I'm not sure I have strong preferences about the details, but broadly
speaking, perhaps it'd be nice if we could satisfy the following:

  - When people ask for the pages for foo, they get the current "system
default" foo (or maybe just the newest one?).

  - All of the internal links for a particular "version" point to the
pages that go with that version. I'm not sure I care right now
whether that's via browser behaviors, or via some (speculating
wildly) "makeinfo --version-ref calc=24.4 --version-ref org=24.4
emacs.info" build-time mechanism.

  - There's an easy way to ask specifically for the "foo X" pages. I
suppose X might be program specific, but all of the values I can
think of right now are of the form N or N.M. (i.e. GCC 5.0, Python
2.7, Python 3.4, Emacs 24.4 (or just 24?)), etc.

All else being equal, it might be handy to allow X to be configurable,
so that you don't have to get involved in deciding where the
"multi-version line" should be. i.e. some people might only want pages
for GCC 4 and GCC 5, and some might want pages for 4.8, 4.9, and 5.0.

I suppose if you were willing to assert that all of the "versions" were
going to be strings separated by periods, then you might be able to
support lookups for say, "5", "5.0", and "5.0.1" at the same time, when
5.0.1 was installed, but I'm somewhat wary.

As mentioned elsewhere, I'd be fine with a top-level dir listing
multiple versions, but I don't know what would be easiest/best.

I suppose in the end, I think of this issue roughly like that of going
to look for the web documentation for say Python. Sometimes I need the
2.X pages, and sometimes I need 3.X, and on the main page
(https://docs.python.org/3/) there's a sidebar:

  Python » 3.4.3 Documentation »

Download these documents | Welcome! This is the Python 3.4.3 documentation
Docs for other versions | Parts of the documentation:
Python 2.7 (stable)| What's new in Python 3.4?
Python 3.3 (stable)| Tutorial
Python 3.5 (devel) | start here
Old versions | ...

Of course we wouldn't necessarily handle it that way, but I think the
general idea of treating multiple versions as a normal case is sound.

> PS Is there any way of stopping the Debian bug tracker system
> acknowledging my email, other than leaving it off the reply list?

Hmm, not sure offhand, I just ignore it, but I wouldn't mind turning it
off myself.

Thanks

Bug#794436: cqrlog: LoTW import/export does not work due to "Error: ssl_openssl"

2015-08-02 Thread Eric Christensen
Package: cqrlog
Version: 1.8.2-1.1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
When I try to import LoTW QSLs I get the following error:

NOT logged
Error: 0
Error: Host not found
Error: ssl_openssl

This used to be caused by an openssl package not being installed but I think
I've got everything installed properly.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The above error happened.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expected CQRLOG to pull down the QSLs from LoTW.

From: Luca Boccassi
To: Debian Bug Tracking System
Subject: nvidia-kernel-dkms: DKMS build failure on armhf
X-Debbugs-Cc: luca.bocca...@gmail.com

Package: nvidia-kernel-dkms
Version: 352.30-1
Severity: important

Testing the build of nvidia-kernel-dkms in an armhf chroot (via qemu static
binaries) results in build failure
for kernels 3.16 (jessie) and 4.0 (sid). Cannot test 4.1 as the armhf build of
linux-kbuild-4.1 is missing.

I already addressed 2 problems and committed to the SVN repo (patch nv-linux.h
and enable dma_ops for arm in
conftest.h, but the final problem is that the armhf kernel ships with
CONFIG_XEN enabled [1], without CONFIG_PARAVIRT,
and this is not supported.

Enabling the Xen-related defines in conftest.h would likely end up exposing
code paths in
the binary driver that should really not be exposed, so I don't think that is
an option.

The workaround is to manually hack
/usr/src/linux-headers-4.0.0-2-armmp/include/config/auto.conf and
/usr/src/linux-headers-4.0.0-2-armmp/include/generated/autoconf.h to add
CONFIG_PARAVIRT before building
the module, which means it has to be done every single time. Even so, only 4.0
builds, 3.16 fails because of
the presence of a Xen-related GPL-only symbol.

Andreas, Vincent, do you happen to know why the armhf kernel is shipped with
this configuration?
What are our options?

Kind regards,
Luca Boccassi

Hi David,

Instead of an arbitrary sleep, could you try using "sync" to flush
current buffers. It seems like the container should respect that, and
it could be a solution that could work in general.

Bug#794434: d-feet: segfault when trying to browse org.freedesktop.systemd1

2015-08-02 Thread Jason Pleau
Package: d-feet
Version: 0.3.9-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I installed d-feet to be able to browse the dbus API that systemd exposes.
Unfortunately, trying to browse org.freedesktop.systemd1 crashes d-feet with a
segmentation fault.

1. Launch d-feet
2. Double click on org.freedesktop.systemd1
3. It crashes

This is with version 0.3.9-1 from sid.

Here's the output I captured:

There is also a popup that appears before the crash, with the following

Bug#794433: xdg-user-dirs: program acts without the user’s approval

2015-08-02 Thread Thomas Grüttmüller
Package: xdg-user-dirs
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

1. The program creates folders in the user’s home directory

* without identifying itself to the user,
* without informing the user about the action, and
* without a chance for the user to opt out.

2. The program also repurposes existing folders in the user’s home directory

* by listing them under “~/.config/user-dirs.dirs” for use by other
programs,
* without informing the user about the step and the intended future use,
* and again without a chance to opt out.

3. In my case, I did not choose to install the “xdg-user-dirs” package. I
don’t know how it got on my computer. None of the rdepends apply, and even if
it was a dependency remnant, it should have long been autoremoved. Maybe the
package was slipped in during the Jessie upgrade.

Solution (to 1 and 2):

Before taking any action, the program should pop up a dialog to

* identify to the user,
* inform the user about the planned changes, and
* give the user a chance to opt out.

* *** Especially, there should be no repurposing of existing folders without
the users consent!!! ***

Regards,
  Thomas

OK. I hadn't noticed the comment I referenced wasn't from the original

If the problem persists, please reopen the bug and let us know what versions of

Bug#733860: dependencies

2015-08-02 Thread Jason Hernandez
It looks like all the dependencies for Pond other than AGL's go-gtk have been
packaged. https://github.com/agl/go-gtk

We have
golang-go.crypto-devhttps://packages.debian.org/sid/golang-go.crypto-devand
golang-ed25519-devhttps://packages.debian.org/sid/golang-ed25519-dev

I made an amateur attempt at packaging AGL's go-gtk (hopefully this helps
someone who understands go / packaging better can clean this
up)https://github.com/saltthefries/go-gtk

I'm trying to put together makefiles to create a pond-client package, but
creating makefiles for multi-binary go packages is currently beyond my
knowledge.

> Can't that method, whatever it is, also switch the Info files that are found?

Among other things, I don't think that'd really be feasible on a
multi-user system. I don't want to change the docs (and currently the
default #! version as well) for everyone on the system just because I
want to check out the GCC 5 info pages.

At least on Debian the normal method is update-alternatives, which can
only be invoked as root, and changes the defaults globally.

Taken as a whole that seems awfully heavy handed if all you want to do
is read the Guile 2.2 docs while still defaulting to 2.0 in all other
ways (i.e. for #!/usr/bin/guile).

And even if update-alternatives worked per-user, it would still have to
be augmented to accommodate the documentation independently from any
"#!/..." links, because I don't want to switch even my per-user default
executables just to read newer/older docs.

I'm also not sure how you would address the #! links per-user, unless
they were required to be of the form "#!/usr/bin/env ..." system-wide,
or similar.

Perhaps it's naive, but I feel like I might just want a dir like this so
that I can find what I want and don't have to change global state and/or
restart the viewer just to read different versions:

  * Emacs 24 ...
  * Emacs 25 ...

  * GCC 4.9 ...
  * GCC 5.0 ...

  * Python 2.7 ...
  * Python 3.4 ...

Then the internal refs would be appropriately versioned, and the readers
would jump to the appropriate version by default. i.e. the Emacs 24
pages would link internally to the emacs24-calc or calc-emacs24 or
whatever.

Perhaps the various calc versions might percolate up to the top too:

  * Calc W.X
  * Calc Y.Z

And "info calc" might even just show me that if I wasn't more specific,
say via "info calc/W.X".

Though at the moment, I don't really care about the details of the
interface as long as there's a reasonable way to find the versions I
want.

> I just don't see how Texinfo can help to solve the
> multiple-version-packaging problem.

I'd be a bit surprised if in the long run Texinfo doesn't plan to
accommodate installing and reading the documentation for multiple major
versions. For example, in the GCC world it's certainly reasonable to
expect that you might need to work with both 4.9 and 5.0, or with 2.7
and 3.4 in the Python world, etc.

FWIW, if I'm reading it right, it looks like the Debian GCC 5 info pages
may be using gcc-5 and gccint-5 style refs.

Thanks

How about

# Preventing ntpd from swapping (with mlockall()) reduces time delays,
# but resource limits (ulimit -l) cause out-of-meory errors that lead to
# ntpd quitting with strange (or no) error messages. Particular trouble
# spots are the -u option (depending on /etc/nsswitch.conf) and the pool
# command (which does DNS lookups at run time). It's more reliable with
# this disabled.
#
# Note that the busier your NTP server, the less swapping is a concern

ok, both locally and on the Ubuntu buildds in a wily environment, I get another
build failure.

  https://launchpad.net/~doko/+archive/ubuntu/toolchain/+packages

however, this is with a rebuilt boost1.58, libsigc++2.0, libapt-pkg-dev,
xapian-core, cppunit.

xapian and boost were uploaded today, bug reports for libsigc++ and cppunit
exist (if maintainers don't reply, maybe you could coordinate these
transitions?). Michael Vogt provided me with an update for apt which I should
upload, coordinating with David.

So I think unstable is not yet ready to do this rebuild.

2015-08-02 Thread Mikhail Gusarov
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I no longer have time to maintain rmilter, so it is up for adoption.

The package is in a good shape, upstream is active and collaborating.

One might ponder switching from native package to non-native one,
native proved not to be a good choice.

Daniel Pocock writes:

I have no idea if this has been discussed before but what it comes to
private key storage, there is program named tpmtool (part of GnuTLS)
that allows storing private keys in place out-of-the-filesystem. I
have not tried using it myself so I don't know if there is useful API
available or anything - just the idea seems good to me -> so maybe
advocating usage of that method might be the Correct Way? Also
fallback option should be in place for HW where TPM chip is not
present..

Goes back to 2009:

commit 1eb10ccb85261931d5401adbff11acd2dbc5bf63
Author: Christoph Hellwig
Date: Wed Apr 29 15:32:28 2009 +0200

keep autoconf-generated files over make distclean

We do want to ship the autoconf-generated files over make distclean and
pick them up in Makepkgs so that a user compiling the program doesn't
require autoconf.

For that split up make distclean from make realclean and exclude the
files we want to keep form the former.

To make this easier to maintain adher to stricter rules of use for
CONFIGURE and LDIRT. CONFIGURE now includes all generated files from
autoconf (or for it like our copied install-sh) and gets only removed
on make realclean, but added to LSRCFILES so that Makepkgs can pick it
up. Everything else than needs to be removed on a realclean gets
assigned to LDIRT.

Also split up the configure rule into one to generate the configure
script and one to run it.

Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig
Reviewed-by: Mike Frysinger

So we've been doing this with release tarballs for more than 6
years - I checked and found these files in the tarballs back to
3.0.1. The above commit is the last commit prior to the release of
3.0.1...

Nowdays, the generated files in the 3.2.4 tarball created via a
'make dist' rule. I run that on an up to date debian unstable box
with autoconfig 2.69 installed to generate the files, so the
question I have is this: why is an up-to-date build box generating
"out of date" configure/m4 scripts? What, exactly, is out of date,
and how do I ensure that the pre-build config files are correctly
up-to-date?

Cheers,

Dave.

As the uboot-mkimage package does not exist in jessie, this is a policy
violation there (§2.2.1: "the packages in main must not require or
recommend a package outside of main") so it's release-critical and
should be fixed.

In wheezy, uboot-mkimage still exists as a transitional package, so I
think this is not important enough to fix.

Please correct nonexistant with nonexistent (I corrected such typo
in xfs's user some time ago, and it would be bad to get this to spread).
You might also want to add (non)existant as a common mispelling for
(non)existent.

Bug#794425: gufw: segmentation fault or gui freeze with fluxbox

2015-08-02 Thread Alessandro Aglietti
Package: gufw
Version: 12.10.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I use fluxbox without modification, I customize only the menu to sort
entries as I prefer.

After a fresh gufw installation notification about "listen report" aren't
shown, then I add the file /usr$

[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.Notifications
Exec=/bin/sh -c "if [ ! -x /usr/lib/notification-daemon/notification-daemon
] || [ ${GDMSESSION%.desktop}$

with this file notifications works.

Once time I get a trace about the refreshing a GTKtable, sry I lost the
trace content.

Without the "listening report" options, for now, I don't get freeze or any
problems.

How I can run gufw with a debug/fine logging level to help you?

Thank u,

Bug#794423: vlc: no "Continue playback" message in qt4 interface

2015-08-02 Thread Alz
Package: vlc
Version: 2.2.0~rc2-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When reopening a video file, the promoted feature of a message like
"Do you want to restart the playback where left off? [Continue] X"
doesn't appear in QT4 interface.

After a search, it seems to be precisely this (resolved) bug:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/14034
Just like described in the link, opening a video through "Open file" menu will
let that particular file to have the "Continue" message and button appearing
every next time.

It's reproducile with a standard Jessie installation. In Debian Testing the
feature is working. I understand that it's a minor bug, it would be nice to
have it in Stable as well.

Despite what SDDM maintainers said it seems that the code itself does[1]
(or, at least, should) source /etc/profile and $HOME/.profile, provided
they exist[2]. I am also pretty sure that Kubuntu capitalizes on this
functionality to handle nvidia-prime.

I'm using /usr/bin/gnome-terminal.wrapper via
/etc/alternatives/x-terminal-emulator

I just tried: opened 7 files (verified .vimrc not containing any remap):
Ctrl+PgUp/PgDown does nothing. Also verified that "Ctrl" is not captured by
WM: Ctrl+V enters the visual block as it should.

I think I never changed my terminal but, I'm afraid, I cannot be 100% sure.
However, I tried also with xterm and /usr/bin/xfce4-terminal.wrapper and
nothing changes.

Bug#793067: Bug#792328: info: can no longer find the Emacs manual

2015-08-02 Thread Karl Berry
Here's what I don't get: suppose there are two versions of Emacs
installed, emacs-x and emacs-y. Presumably Debian (and anyone else) has
some method for the user to choose which one is invoked by just "emacs".
Can't that method, whatever it is, also switch the Info files that are found?

For instance, with emacs-[xy] info files installed in
/usr/share/info/emacs-[xy]/ subdirs, it could change a symlink
/usr/share/info/emacs.info*. Or do whatever is necessary. Then no
special features are needed.

I just don't see how Texinfo can help to solve the
multiple-version-packaging problem.

Axel tries to accelerate the downloading process by using multiple connections

Bug#794420: ghostscript: ps2pdf13 produces incomplete files with PS files generated by Windows printer drivers

2015-08-02 Thread Christian Mueller
Package: ghostscript
Version: 9.06~dfsg-2+deb8u1
Severity: important

When setting up a Windows client to print through my main Debian box, I noticed
that the test page came out incomplete - only the logo and one letter was
printed.

I tracked this down to CUPS using compatibility version 1.3 when converting the
PS file to a PDF file (/usr/lib/cups/filters/pstopdf). This can be reproduced
using ps2pdf13 and ps2pdf12 with the file I indent to attach to this bug report
(hoping that I can attach files).

I've changed the CUPS filter to use PDF compatibility version 1.2 and can now
print from Windows - this might be an acceptable workaround until the underlying
cause has been fixed but this is, of course, a different package. I'm still
submitting this bug to ghostscript because this is where I believe it's
ultimately located.

The importance of this defect is, I believe, relatively high because it appears
toprevent any Windows client from printing anything on a Debian 8.1 server, at
least in situations as mine whether the printer doesn't speak Postscript and
CUPS needs to handle the input file.

Please stand by for the example file (the printer test page from Windows).

Bug#794419: sddm doesn't source /etc/profile and $HOME/.profile

2015-08-02 Thread Hillel Lubman
Package: sddm
Version: 0.11.0-3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading Debian testing to KDE Plasma 5, things which rely on
/etc/profile being sourced became broken because sddm doesn't source it unlike
kdm did (it also doesn't source $HOME/.profile unlike kdm, so if anything
relied on that it would be broken too).

For example, /etc/profile adds /usr/games to the PATH, and minetest and a
number of other Debian games rely on this. With sddm + Plasma 5 their launchers
became broken in Debian.

I filed the bug upstream: https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/448 and sddm
developers commented that profiles aren't supposed to be sourced by the display
manager, so there should be some other way of handling this in such case.

Maybe the comment is a little misleading. There have been various
reports over the past few year about the rlimit breaking things,
but ussually dieing after a few hours of running or something like
that. With the pool command it just doesn't start (for me).
Maybe other see different kinds of error like the getpwuid() fail
instead.

Okay, so you have a workaround. That's a relief.

Haven't found time for that yet. Sorry. But now that I can
reproduce the crash, it becomes more urgent. And I've set
the two MALLOC variables in my environment, so I should be
getting random crashes too. That should motivate me. :)

Dear Maintainer,

As per Policy §5.6.26, VCS-Broswer should point to "publicly accessible

Bug#793745: [PATCH] I'm seeing it too.

2015-08-02 Thread sacrificial-spam-address
Since I run a pool server, I have a customized config. That means that
I have the pool servers commented out, and the comment on the rlimit
command says it's not needed in that case, so I left it out of my config.

And ran into the same problem.

Really, ntpd should make calls like getpwuid() before calling mlock,
This requires breaking -u option processing has to be broken into
two phases (since you can't mlock after changing uid), but it's not that
hard. Appended is a (working for me) patch to do just that.

The mlockall() fails because it exceeds the available limit, but ntpd
just logs the error and continues. In the original, earlier location
it succeeds, but then later allocations fail due to the same limit.

Bug#794413: libgl1-mesa-glx: Mesa interferes with mouse, causing "lost sync" and confusing psmouse (wierd, I know)

2015-08-02 Thread Josef Kufner
Package: libgl1-mesa-glx
Version: 10.5.9-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

after upgrade of all *-mesa-* packages from 10.5.9-2 to 10.6.3-1, I got very
wierd behavior of my trackpoint and touchpad on Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12. Mouse
looses sync, sometimes jumping around, sometimes it stops working completely.
Reloading of psmouse module sometimes helps to get mouse back, but not for
long. It happens more when Chromium is running, probably becouse of more
windows to render, but it also happens when Chromium is not running. After
downgrade of Mesa back to 10.5.9-2, mouse works much better, it happened only
once so far when GPU was under full load.

Kernel parameters "i8042.reset" and "i8042.nomux" do not help.

Both Linux 4.1 and 4.0 is affected (latest Debian packages).

I dmesg, I can see messages like this:

[ 1997.236795] psmouse serio1: TouchPad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost

Nothing about GPU related stuff. But since downgrade of messa packages helped,
I'm sending this to you :)

I guess there may be some issue with interrupts or something like that,
otherwise I have no idea how these two things are related to each other.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Subject: [PATCH] Remove apache2-mpm-worker from depends list

- We anyway use apache2-mpm-prefork due to PHP dependency.

- This Debian package has been removed and the new way to switch MPMs to
use a2enmod with various module configurations for MPMs.

As you can tell, nothing is recommended yet. There have been some
suggestions in this discussion thread about what could be done, but as
far as I know the people who want to use multiple versions of manuals
haven't come back to say whether these suggestions will meet their
needs, or what else could work.

One observation is that the case with Emacs having many manuals for it
and associated programs is a rare case. Thus the suggestion of having
subdirectories for each Emacs version (/usr/share/info/emacs23,
/usr/share/info/emacs24, etc.) doesn't mean that there would be a huge
number of subdirectories. Other manuals could have a suffix on the
filename, like gcc-4.0.info, gcc-4.1.info, etc. The only drawback of
that would be that you wouldn't be able to access those manuals with
cross-references to the "gcc" manual. Only one manual at a time could
be accessed as "gcc", unless they were installed in multiple
directories all of which were on INFOPATH. I don't think that's a huge
problem.

Apart from that the main idea to help with multiple versions of
programs is to try to get the Info file from the same subdirectory
when following a cross-reference, so that e.g. a link followed from
/usr/share/info/emacs23/calc.info to "emacs" would go to
/usr/share/info/emacs23/emacs.info, and not to
/usr/share/info/emacs24/emacs.info. (I think I said this before; I
haven't gone and read the previous conversation on this.)

There could be a script for the users to run that would update
symlinks so the right documentation file would be given if "info
emacs" was run. As far as I have heard, there's something like that
already on Debian. I think suggestions like this have already been
made.

Debian maintainers, please tell us what you need us to do. I'd be
looking for indications that somebody would find changes useful that I
might make, because any changes I would go and implement at the moment
would only be based on my theorizing, because I haven't had a real
need to look up documentation of multiple versions of programs, and my
theorizing might not match the practical reality.

PS Is there any way of stopping the Debian bug tracker system
acknowledging my email, other than leaving it off the reply list?

Bug#794410: debian-installer: Installer hangs during 'select and install software'

2015-08-02 Thread edwin de held
Package: debian-installer
Severity: important

Subject: debian-installer: Installer hangs during 'select and install software'

Dear Debian team

During the installation on a Acer Aspire E11 ES-111-C5Q9 laptop the
system freezes with an installation with both the
debian-8.1.0-amd64-xfce-CD-1.iso image and also
debian-8.1.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso.
The freeze takes place during the 'select and install software' after
'laptop detect' while apt is running. Both with grapical and
non-grapical gui
In this stage of the installation apt is already configured.

On the same system, on a different partition, with the same method I
did a fresh install of linux mint ( kernel 3.16.0-38-generic) , which
is working perfectly so I'm pretty shure there is no malfunctioning of
the hardware.

On the debian file system the following log of apt was found:

Bug#794409: os-prober: generic detection using /etc/os-release (for Void Linux and NixOS)

2015-08-02 Thread Török Edwin
Package: os-prober
Version: 1.65
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Maintainer,

os-prober correctly detects Fedora 22, however it doesn't detect Void Linux or
NixOS (they are reported as unknown Linux distribution).

Actual os-prober 1.65 output:
/dev/mapper/os-fedora_root:Fedora release 22 (Twenty Two):Fedora:linux
/dev/mapper/os-void_root:unknown Linux distribution:Linux:linux

Expected output:
/dev/mapper/os-fedora_root:Fedora release 22 (Twenty Two):Fedora:linux
/dev/mapper/os-nixos_root:NixOS 14.12.801.221101a (Caterpillar):NixOS:linux
/dev/mapper/os-void_root:Void Linux:Void:linux

Both of these have an /etc/os-release file, and using the patch below allows
update-grub2 to generate the expected names.

Watch bug #793556 for progress on inclusion of this bugfix into

for people who use -Z to drop privileges and stream the output of
tcpdump to another program.

Full debdiff attached.

Bug#794406: g++: Non-deterministic "/usr/include/c++/5/bits/basic_string.h:121:53: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault" when compiling aptitude 0.7-1

2015-08-02 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: g++
Version: 4:5.2.1-3
Severity: minor
Control: affects -1 src:aptitude

Hi Matthias,

I've just tried to build the upcoming aptitude 0.7-1 inside a pbuilder
chroot.

I've first recompiled the following source packages with gcc-5/5.2.1-14
respectively g++-5/5.2.1-14 and against libstdc++6/5.2.1-14 and
installed the (necessary) packages built that way:

cppunit_1.13.2-2.dsc
ncurses_5.9+20150516-2.dsc
xapian-core_1.2.21-1.dsc
apt_1.0.9.10.dsc

I then tried to build aptitude_0.7-1.dsc (as currently in aptitude's
debian-sid branch):

command again, it builds fine again. And running "g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H
-I. -I../../tests -I.. -I.. -I../.. -I../../src -I../../tests
-DBOOST_TEST_DYN_LINK -DSRCDIR=\"../../tests\" -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2

-fno-strict-aliasing -Wall -c -o test_resolver_costs.o
../../tests/test_resolver_costs.cc" manually immediately after the
segfault worked fine as well.

Reporting it as only minor hence. I can also try to gather more of the
stuff requested in /usr/share/doc/gcc-5/README.Bugs, but only if you
consider this really as a bug and want to try digging into it. (I'm
perfectly fine if you want to postpone investigation of this bug until
after the libstdc++6 transition.)

Hardware on which this was experienced is a Lenovo Thinkpad X250 running
Debian Sid amd64 with kernel "4.1.0-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Debian
4.1.2-1~exp1 (2015-07-11)" with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5300U CPU @
2.30GHz CPU.

[reportbug-gathered stuff missing due to some recent reportbug
incompatibilities with debian-el. But I'm not writing this report inside
the chroot where this happened anyways.]

Yes, I also cannot discern anymore what my main gripe was about.
I still sometimes wish that gqit would leave and on their
own lines and indent the stuff between, reflowing it as fit, but
that's a different issue…

Hi Osamu -- As a Debian user, not a software developer, I can only point
to the the problem and suggest a clearer description. The Debian 8
Release Notes confirm the maintainer's comments in replying to my
comment in bug #792752.

Debian 8 Release Notes
4.6.2. Changes to root and /usr filesystem mounting and checking

initramfs-tools will now also run fsck on the root filesystem
before mounting it. If the chosen init program is systemd and
there is a separate /usr filesystem, it will also fsck and mount
/usr.

Suggestions:

1) Remove misleading or erroneous info in debian-reference:

Remove from 9.5.6. Filesystem creation and integrity check:
Tip

Use "shutdown -F -r now" to force to run the fsck(8) command
safely on all filesystems including root filesystem on reboot.
See the shutdown(8) manpage for more.

I also believe, but don't know, that the tip in the prior paragraph is
also misleading or erroneous and should be removed:
Tip

Check files in "/var/log/fsck/" for the result of the fsck(8)
command run from the boot script.

2) Replace these tips with this, which is true but perhaps not
comprehensive.
Tip

The command "cat /run/initramfs/fsck.log" will show the result for
the fsck(8) command run from initramfs-tools before the root filesystem
was mounted.

Hope this helps.

Ralph

Steps to reproduce:

/tmp$ mkdir foo
/tmp$ cd foo/
/tmp/foo$ mkdir 1
/tmp/foo$ mkdir 2
/tmp/foo$ echo one-line > 2/only-in-2
/tmp/foo$ echo one-line > 1/only-in-1
/tmp/foo$ seq 1 10 > 2/big-file
/tmp/foo$ diff -Naur 1 2 | diffstat
 big-file |10
++
 only-in-1 |1
 only-in-2 |1
 3 files changed, 11 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-)
