Bug#824447: build deb for stretch

2016-05-15 Thread Yang Yu
Package: usbmount

It looks like the package is not built for stretch but present in all
other releases. What's preventing it from being built?
Thanks.

Bug#824043: [pkg-boost-devel] Bug#824043: this should be a dependency package, instead of containing all headers

I agree it is a bit unusual. I am sorry that you find it inconvenient.

This is incorrect. Debian's -dev packages always contain the link-time
libraries (.a and .so). Please see Section 8.4 of the Policy Manual [1]

> libboost-date-time1.58-dev should contain /usr/include/boost/date_time.hpp.

What the Policy Manual says is:

Installing the development package must result in installation of all
the
development files necessary for compiling programs against that shared

library.

This is true of libboost-date-time1.58-dev. No policy is violated.

Now, of course, your complaint is that it installs *more* than strictly
necessary and that is unusual; it is true. Years ago, boost was split as you
describe. I tried partitioning the boost headers into the various -dev
packages. But Boost was not very good at encapsulation so it happened that
Boost.X would be using headers that normally "belong" to Boost.Y. This
resulted in bug reports including #548503, #553281, #550006. I did fix some
such using inter-component dependencies (i.e. boostX-dev depends on boostY-
dev) but then I would get bugs rightly complaining that there should be no
such dependency. The best compromise I came up with was to put all *headers*
in one place and have all -dev packages depend on that.

I have had essentially no complaint (before yours) about this practice in the
intervening 6.5 years.

> libboost-date-time1.58-dev to actually contain specific headers.

If we are going to return to this practice, we should be convinced that (a)
Boost is now better at encapsulation and (b) provides a mechanism to produce
the required partition of header files.

Best,
-Steve

FWIW, Bug #18869 on the emacs bugtracker seems
to be related:

http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=18869

I did some testing and I can reproduce the crash
with the given font "Source Code Pro-9".

Some further testing seems to point at the font name itself.
Steps to reproduce:

,[ ~/.emacs [
| (set-face-attribute 'default t :font "SomeBogusFont1")
`
starts the daemon just fine.

However with
,[ ~/.emacs [
| (set-face-attribute 'default t :font "SomeBogusFont-1")
`

, the daemon does not start correctly.

This is with

of 2016-04-08 on powerpc-osuosl-01, modifed by Debian

Bug#824441: aptitude segfaults when marking texlive-generic-extra as auto-installed

2016-05-15 Thread James Tocknell
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.8.1-1
Severity: important

As per the title, aptitude segfaults when marking texlive-generic-extra as
auto-installed. I'm marking it as auto-installed via the keyboard shortcut.
The segfault happens when I'm in the default limit as well as the limit "!~M".
This happens every time I do this, whether it's the first thing I do in
aptitude, or after doing something else.

Are there debug symbols for aptitude in unstable so I can provide a backtrace,
they only appear to be in testing?

That "-o .." at the end should say "-o ."; the '.' at the end of the sentence
makes it ambiguous. I would suggest quoting "-o ." or otherwise making the

That's precisely the problem: chroots do *not* have to be "default",
and that's precisely why Build-Conflicts exists at all.

Moreover, my chroot was pretty "standard" as it had debhelper installed
by default, nothing really strange.

This is a FTBFS bug. Please read Debian Policy about Build-Conflicts
before modifying severity again.

I'll quote policy for you to save time:

  Build-Depends, Build-Depends-Indep, Build-Conflicts, Build-Conflicts-Indep

Source packages that require certain binary packages to be installed
or *absent* at the time of building the package can declare
 relationships to those binary packages.

This is the case here. This package requires normal automake to be
*absent* because it needs automake1.11 and gets confused if there is
another automake floating around.

Thanks.

That has no useful effect, as it is a boolean option that only enables
a menu of further options.

Please explain what changes are really needed.

Did it work when running an earlier kernel version or an earlier
version of Debian?

Why do you say the chip is problematic?  Why is the lm75 driver even
loaded?  That shouldn't happen automatically and is not necessary as
the BIOS should manage fan speed by itself.

We prefer that you use 'reportbug' which will run our own scripts to

What is the kernel command line?  (It's in /proc/cmdline)

Hi,

I have just rebuilt warzone2100 in a clean sid cowbuilder chroot.
Everything went fine. Currently automake 1.11 is automatically installed
but this might change in the future so we should keep an eye on this
issue. I don't consider this to be release critical at the moment as
long as warzone2100 can be built from source in a default chroot
environment but I leave the rest to pabs, if he should feel differently
about that.

Markus

Bug#824437: mpack: RFC 2047 non-compliant. MIME strings are not decoded

2016-05-15 Thread Anonymous
Package: mpack
Version: 1.6-8
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

If a MIME header uses a character set encoding, munpack does not
correctly decode the string when naming the file. For example, if a
MIME header looks like this:

===8<
--926373431-50545-903641383=:8047
Content-Type: application/pdf;
name="=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Andr=E9?="
Content-Disposition: attachment;
filename="=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Andr=E9?="
Content-Transfer-Encoding: BASE64
===8<

Then munpack creates a file that is literally named
"=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Andr=E9?=". Likewise, it's the same problem if the
filename is UTF-8 encoded, which takes the form:
"=?UTF-8?B?blahblah=?=".

This does not comply with RFC 2047. For simple example if the
decoding that's needed, see: http://dogmamix.com/MimeHeadersDecoder/
Perhaps that site will be good for testing purposes.

I applied this patch in Ubuntu [1], but, as you can see from the link,
it still failed to build on s390x due to a malloc-related test
failure. Any ideas on how this can be remedied?

In this case the binary should go into /usr/lib instead. That place
exist exactly for this reason:
"/usr/lib includes object files, libraries, and internal binaries that
are not intended to be executed directly by users or shell scripts"
http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#USRLIBLIBRARIESFORPROGRAMMINGANDPA

Given that in your case you say the binary is not called by anything
else than the application itself, then why keep it in /usr/bin?

Not here. This package puts a single ./usr/bin/HDFCompass in a package
named hdf-compass. If that's not intended to be used by the user then
I'd be really confused :)

There's one use case I can think of where overriding a
"binary-without-manpage" is fine: if the executable isn't supposed to
be used by the end-user, only as an external command called from the
application itself. I had to do this with "pythonpy"[1], as it uses an
executable called "pycompleter" to provide its bash-completion
feature.

Can't say if this is what is happening here, as I didn't reviewed the
package. Anyway, I guess worth mentioning this kind of corner cases as
an exception for a rule.

Regards,
Tiago.

Thank you for clarifying that. (My mistake; I was going too much by the

packaging issue...)

No, this doesn't happen any more since quite some time. I don't remember

Bug#824430: multitail: Illegal utf-8 character sequences break output permanently

2016-05-15 Thread Christoph Biedl
Package: multitail
Version: 6.4.2-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

if the locale settings are somewhat utf-8-ish, illegal utf-8 character
sequences break any future multitail output until the program is
terminated. Instead of the actual text, the string "^`" is printed for
each character, inverted.

Reproducer:

printf '\xf8\xa7\nhello\n' | LANG=en_US.UTF-8 multitail -j

Analysis:

The mbsrtowcs invocation in mt.c might fail. The program does not catch
this but uses the pre-defined value for wcur which is the null byte.
The documentation states the value is undefined but appearently it's
just left untouched. That null value is considered a control character
and the code to print that generates the observed sequence (it should
rather be "^@", different story).

The surprising thing is any future invocations to mbsrtowcs will fail,
too. Appearently the internal state is distorted in a way it cannot
recover even when processing sound input. This might be an issue in
glibc, I've filed #824429

Workaround:

Set LANG to C before calling multitail.

Possible fixes:

- Set LC_CTYPE to "C" instead of "" in main. Unless this has other
  side effects.
- Instead of using the internal state, provide one on our own,
and reset it upon error, see below.

In either way it's a good idea to set wcur to the question mark to
indicate a character conversion error. More elaborate things were
printing it inverted and/or using the replacement character U+FFFD for
this. Figuring out side effects is left as an exercise to the reader.

Bug#824429: libc6: In certain locale combinations mbsrtowcs cannot recover from EILSEQ

2016-05-15 Thread Christoph Biedl
Package: libc6
Version: 2.22-7
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

It might be questionable whether this is a bug in glibc at all. But at
least it's surprising behaviour.

The reproducer below calls mbstowcs two times, first time with
an illegal UTF-8 sequence, second time a correct one.

Now if the caller's environment is set to something UTF-8-ish like
"en_US.UTF-8" or "de_DE.UTF-8", also the second and any further
mbsrtowcs invocation fail with EILSEQ. Note setting LC_CTYPE to an
empty string is also required to make this happen.

Also, I didn't make this up, this happened to me in real-life code.
That application needs to be restarted to be usable again. There are
several ways to work around it, still in my opinion it should be
addressed at the libc side.

Or in short:

With LANG set to "C", both tests pass; while set to "en_US.UTF-8" the
second fails.

FWIW, on a 10.3-RELEASE FreeBSD the first fails for "C" (i.e. the
character sequence is accepted) while both pass for "en_US.UTF-8".

So try using gnome-openhttp://www.google.com from a
command-line and
report back what happens.
Also try using gnome-open mailto:666...@bugs.debian.org and see if that
works too.

If you don't have gnome-open on your system, use xdg-open instead.
Should give you the same results.

The configuration for your mime types is in
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

Try running cat ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list | grep http
If you see anything in there that is no longer installed in your system
you're going to have to fix it.

You could always backup to another location and delete
~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list which should cause your
desktop environment to regenerate it.

Hello,

Just checking in to see if anybody was still impacted by this issue. As
far as I can tell, it's mainly caused by a stray config file that points
to the wrong web browser, or no web browser at all.

These old config files are mostly from people upgrading as the issue
does not present itself with a clean configuration.

Let me know if you're still having this issue in Jessie or newer, or
I'll go ahead and close this out.

Thanks for your time.

Bug#824428: cinnamon: touchpad scrolling defaults now to reversed order?

2016-05-15 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: cinnamon
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi.

With 3.0 there appears to be a new option that makes
the touchbad horizontal/vertical scrolling reverse the direction.

While this is nice, it seems to be default to the reversed order.
Any reason for that?
The old behaviour seemed to be more intuitive...

Anyway, this is just a reminder that you *may* want to change
that default - not a real request to do so.
If you say, you want to follow upstream's new default (if this
actually is that), then I'm fine with it either, since it can
be easily configured (cinnamon vs. Gnome ^^); in that case, feel
free to close the bug :)

Cheers,
Chris

Bug#824427: cinnamon: bell sound appears in all kinds of places

2016-05-15 Thread Christoph Anton Mitterer
Package: cinnamon
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: normal

Hey.

Not sure whether this can be considered a "bug"...
Since 3.0, in all kinds of things the "bell" sound appears
in all kinds of places, where it didn't before...

e.g. when doing an unsuccessful tab completion in
gnome-terminal (which at least has an option to disable the
bell)... or in Firefox when searching for text and that isn't
found.

That's quite annoying and I didn't find a way to get rid of
it via the sound applet,...
It is possible in my system cause the soundcard itself
(though only ALSA exports this and Pulseaudio once again sucks
here), allows me to "mute" the "beep" (which seems to be used
for the bell.
But this is of course no solution for all those people
with cards who don't export that as a mixer item.

Cheers,
Chris.

Bug#824387: Acknowledgement (asterisk: SIP registrations fail with latest version)

2016-05-15 Thread Anton Ivanov
I have narrowed down the registration to a set of Cisco 79xx clients -
looks like a regression from one of the recent openssl updates. They all
suddenly stopped working after it.

You can downgrade this accordingly

I will file the debug info issue separately later.

Bug#824402: sra-toolkit: does not load data from fastq files to directory (and probably more problems)

2016-05-15 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Jana,

thanks for this bug report. I admit that sra-toolkit packaging is
lagging behind upstream development. The reason was a new dependency
(ngs-sdk) which is packaged now. I tried the latest upstream source but
due to the quite unusual build system (the source is using a configure
script which is something else than an autoconf created script) the new
version does not build as simple. I hope that once we've managed to get
the package build there are chances that this problem is fixed - if not
we try to contact upstream about this.

Any volunteer to fox the build system is more than welcome.

Kind regards

  Andreas.

This one too.
It has Vcs-* pointin to the DPMT namespace, but this time the repository
doesn't exist. And DPMT is not neither in Maintainer: nor in
Uploaders:.

Also it doesn't close a WNPP bug?

I found the ITP #776083, which is owned by somebody else (which strikes
me, as I would expect the ITP to "expire" after some months, but
apparently here didn't happen). So, I won't sponsor this until you
clarify the situation with the ITP owner and get an ack from him and
take over the ITP.

Please clarify these situations.

Bug#824416: cpu fan doesn't start

2016-05-15 Thread john k
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-4-486
Version: 3.2.78-1

cpu fan doesn't start automatically. The result is to high temperature.
If i boot different OS fan works ok.
If i enter bios fan works ok.
If i restart or boot while in high temperature to debian, system says "critical
temperature" and auto shuts down.
The machine is a laptop. It uses the problematic i2c chip with the problematic
lm75 driver.
I am attaching a hardinfo report
Thank you.

Doing the thing through the git repo linked there.

Again, pushing a debian/ tag before the upload is not that great idea,
as now I have things I'm not happy about and the tag needs to be
deleted/recreated. Usually I also push the tag for teams I'm part of
(like this), but I can also leave it to you if you like. Just that as
of now there is a tag that doesn't match reality.

* d/hdf-compass.lintian-overrides
+ bad habit doing lintian overrides without a comment. But I can't
imagine a reason to override binary-without-manpage. That one just
needs fixing, and hiding it behind an override doesn't help it.
* d/rules:
+ what's the reason for disabling the tests? please document it in a
comment.

FTR, what I veto against is the override for binary-without-manpage,
that IMHO is plain wrong, even if I know several others DDs who are ok
with that).

BTW, for me, it's enough to put:

@hooks [ { func load files [ "/dev/null" ] } ]

in /etc/asound.conf to make 'aplay -L' blow up.

Bug#824424: please mark cross binutils as Multi-Arch: foreign

2016-05-15 Thread Helmut Grohne
Source: binutils
Version: 2.25.1-2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: helm...@debian.org
Usertags: rebootstrap

Hi Matthias,

please mark binutils-$targettriplet as Multi-Arch: foreign.

I think that this marking is correct, because the architecture name is
encoded into the binary package name and thus there is no ambiguity
about the interface. It should be possible to use e.g.
binutils-mips-linux-gnu:i386 and binutils-mips-linux-gnu:amd64
completely interchangeably.

I think that this marking is necessary, because it is part of our plan
to support cross toolchain translation. Eventually, we will need
binutils-for-host (Arch:any, M-A:same, Depends: binutils-$targettriplet)
in a similar way to src:gcc-cross-support. For that dependency to become
satisfiable in non-trivial ways, we need the M-A:foreign marking on
binutils-$targettriplet. Though, the absence of a patch for
binutils-for-host implies that there is no urgency about this.

Do you agree with the reasoning and the attached patch? debian/control
needs to be regenerated after applying it.

Considering how broken hibernation was on my machine (IIRC it worked
once, maybe twice) I'm not ruling out that the issue is somewhere
deeper. That is not to say that the ams code is free of issues--I just
can't say without having a reliable test case.

I'll try to give it another spin on a PowerBook6,8 with the I2C version
of the sensor (Dan, the bug reporter, used a PowerBook5,6). Hopefully
the device actually works--I never powered it on after acquiring it.

Umh. This has a repository in DPMT, but you are the maintainer.

Also, as this is in DPMT, by team policy I'll just ignore mentors.d.n

Ok, I must have missed that news. My question would then be, is there
some harm to adding it so it works now, until all former LXDE users
migrate to LXQT or something else? Even if it means reverting that
later, when there is no LXDE package? We are talking about 5 extra
letters "LXDE;" in 1 single text file, and it will not affect any
other desktop environment in any way. And if not, what will be done
if/when LXQT or any newer DE currently not supported comes along? I
understand whitelisting only DEs that are known to be compatible and
actively developed, but up to a point. Surely there are more than 2
viable DEs in existence? Maybe only they meet some quality cutoff, but
it seems somewhat arbitrary without having an idea what the cutoff is.

Yes, please. Having every program that is technically compatible show
up without jumping through unneeded hoops. Anyone who installs 2 or
more should be tech. savvy enough to know why he/she did it, i.e. the
other one has a feature they need.

Only to rank beginners, and that can be mitigated somewhat by clear
concise explanations/titles in the menu and hints. E.g. if instead of
calling itself "Terminal" as if there is only one (echoes of
Highlander in my head) it would specify "gnome terminal, a terminal
emulator for X11 implemented by gnome, with perhaps the upstream URL
for FAQs, if needed"

---
If you get an error message like this:

go build runtime: linux/386 must be bootstrapped using make.bash

…you are missing the appropriate golang-go-$GOOS-$GOARCH debian

But the golang-go-... packages no longer exist.

Alright, so this package is maintained in collab-maint. Great.
Now:

* why did you upload a -2 to mentors.d.n?
* in git there is a newer version with minimal changes, guess it would
be better if I upload that one?
* you install History.md. I think it would be better to install that
  file as a changelog, see
  https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-changelogs
  For that, just call dh_installchangelogs.

You don't need to upload new releases to mentors, I actually prefer
working with git.

Bug#824420: python-phply: Building with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="nocheck" causes parsetab.py not to be included

Dear Maintainer,

While checking this package with the reproducible builds[1] tool
chain, I noticed that building the package with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS="nocheck" set causes the file parsetab.py not to be
included in the final .deb, because the tests are what cause
parsetab.py to be generated. Another PLY-based package,
pycparser, has a specific file _build_tables.py[2] that's called by
setup.py and by the debian version's rules[3] to build the parse
tables during installation, so a similar solution would probably work
for python-phply.

LXDE is dead upstream (has been replaced by LXQt). So I'm not convinced
it makes sense to add this for LXDE now.

I wonder if it would make sense to drop
debian/patches/01_onlyshowin.patch completely.

This patch was added as other desktop environments usually install their
own preferred terminal, in case of lxde this is lxterminal.

Having multiple terminals in the menu could be confusing.

Bug#824419: cups-filters: Please document pdfAutorotate in the README

2016-05-15 Thread Brian Potkin
Package: cups-filters
Version: 1.0.83-2+b1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch upstream

Although pdfAutorotate was introduced in cups-filters 1.0.25 it is not
documented anywhere. I would suggest the README is as good a place as
any. My suggestion is:

A PDF file containing pages with page width greater than page height
(a landscape page) has such pages automatically rotated anticlockwise
by 90 degrees. To turn off the feature on a job-for-job basis use

lp -d -o nopdfAutorotate

On a per queue basis use

-o nopdfAutorotate

  as an option to lpadmin.

Note that the 'landscape' and 'orientation-requested=4' options of
CUPS take precedence and are applied before 'pdfAutorotate' or
  'nopdfAutorotate'.

(BTW. It is noticable that portrait/landscape bug reports when printing
from applications have reduced to zero since the introduction of
pdfAutorotate. It is also worth remarking that I think it is the only
way of printing a PDF with mixed orientation pages).

Regards,

Brian.

That is a false positive:

# grep '\' debian/README.Debian

I searched for this spelling error before in all of the Golang
packages but could not find it, so it must be in the Go standard
library. I will file an upstream issue with golang/go.

Yes, the trailing capital letter is characteristic of a false positive
that I have seen in other packages before.

This is an ongoing issue, please see the following bugs:

I plan to upload a new version of acmetool once #823014 is fixed.

I will ask the Debian Go maintainers whether -O--buildsystem=golang
can be dropped safely. In any case, it’s fixed in commit 4244a83,
which is ready for upload.

As you probably know that's not allowed :)
Also, FYI, whilst most of Debian's buildd allows network connection,
ubuntu's don't, so your package would have FTBFS there.

I only maintain letsencrypt.sh that doesn't have tests, so I'm not
really testing it. I don't know about the other clients.

Well, I prefer git, so I'll do the thing with git here that you (have
to?) use it, and nitpick on it.

* please provide a pristine-tar branch with the metadata of this tarball
* d/control:
+ Vcs-Git is missing, even if Vcs-Browser exist, please add it.
+ These recent days there are guys doing s/cgit/git/ in their
Vcs-Browser, you may consider it too
+ Std-Version is 3.9.8, please check against that
* d/patches/0001-elpa-version.patch:
+ do you have forwarded it?
* d/copyright:
+ line 7 has 'License: GPL', though:
- there is no standalon license paragraph named 'GPL' in d/copygith,
so you are not respecting the format specification
- the license of that file is actually GPL-3+.

Turns out that what's in git is different than what you uploaded, with a
different email address even. Care to explain?

Not just that, the tarball you provide is different than what I can
download from https://github.com/magit/magit-svn/releases in a way that
is actually differnt and not just a repack. Please use what upstream
provides, if you need that diff, then you've got to use a patch.

Yes.
With gtk-3 3.18 this configuration works.
I also see this problem with emacs24 and with the firefox version linked against
gtk-3.
I wasn't able to find something helpful in the web.

Thanks for catching this. I built the package in an sbuild chroot,
which by default does not block network connections. The test is
trying to contact the Let’s Encrypt staging server.

The easiest solution is to disable the test for now, but in the
long term it would be good to package boulder for Debian and use
it for offline testing.

How are you currently testing the other Let’s Encrypt clients?

Would you be interested in packaging boulder together?

Yes, but consider that some random 3rd-party who doesn't know about
proper sections builds a package in section "misc": Then we would
claim the package to be free software while it clearly isn't.
TBH, I think any package not in the Debian repositories can not be
trusted to be DFSG-free at all, and therefore we shouldn't claim it to
be, unless the developer explicitly stated that in it's upstream
metadata by only having free licenses in its project_license tag.
That stuff is marked as "potentially non-free" is only a visual thing
btw, it won't prevent you to install/uninstall/rate the software.

(Marking this as wontfix early was probably a mistake, because I can
see why someone might have a different opinion on this matter... Maybe
that needs a project-wide decision, but from my experience 3rd-party
developers don't do packaging correctly and often produce bad deb
packages, and we really should not treat those as containing free
software, until it's clear that they are.)

The steppers have been missing from the default gnome theme for a while,

I see, and it's important to sort this out.

This is my actual plan:
1. Update urllib3 and requests (the first package is ready, I'm updating
   requests right now)
2. see if the problem is still present;
3. forward the bug upstream; upstream is very responsive so we will have
   news soon.

Thanks and sorry again for the delay on handling this.
