Bug#654633: XFCE4-VOLUMED: mute and set the volume to 0, when I unmute it, it leave the volume in 0
Package: xfce4-volumed Version: 0.1.13-3 Followup-For: Bug #654633 Hi. I also experienced this while using Openbox and I found the solution in the Ubuntu bug #883485 [1], comment #3 [2]. 1. https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-volumed/+bug/883485 2. https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-volumed/+bug/883485/comments/3 But while for the comment #3, the issue was fixed by setting the active-card property to PlaybackInternalAudioAnalogStereoPulseAudioMixer, in my case I had to install the xfce4-mixer package, start the xfce4-mixer application and set the soundcard to Playback: Built-in Audio Analog Stereo (PulseAudio Mixer). After I made this operation, a new soundcard appeard in xfconf-query -c xfce4-mixer -l: /sound-cards/PlaybackBuiltinAudioAnalogStereoPulseAudioMixer. So I set the active-card to PlaybackBuiltinAudioAnalogStereoPulseAudioMixer with: xfconf-query -c xfce4-mixer -p /active-card -s PlaybackBuiltinAudioAnalogStereoPulseAudioMixer and the xfce4-volumed started muting/unmuting correctly. I think this behaviour is due to the fact that the active soundcard is not set if the xfce4-mixer is not started and I presume this doesn't happen in xfce, where xfce-session is working and starting all the applications and setting the right properties in xfconf. That would be a reason why this bug is overlooked. -- System Information: Debian Release: 7.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xfce4-volumed depends on: ii gstreamer0.10-alsa [gstreamer0.10-audiosink] 0.10.36-1.1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad [gstreamer0.10-audiosink] 0.10.23-7.1 ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good [gstreamer0.10-audiosink 0.10.31-3+nmu1 ii gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio [gstreamer0.10-audiosink] 0.10.31-3+nmu1 ii libc62.13-38 ii libglib2.0-0 2.33.12+really2.32.4-5 ii libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 0.10.36-1.1 ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.36-1.1 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-2 ii libkeybinder00.2.2-4 ii libnotify4 0.7.5-1 ii libxfconf-0-24.8.1-1 xfce4-volumed recommends no packages. xfce4-volumed suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#696880: RFP: Fontik -- A font configuration GUI
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: Fontik Version : 0.6.1 Upstream Author : Suresh P. These settings are usually set system-wide while installing the fonts. The power of fontconfig is thus limited when it comes to the user. The user can definitely override or enhance these settings, but for that, he has to manually edit the ~/.fonts.conf each and every time. I haven't come across any GUI tool that performs these tasks with ease. This is an attempt on it. At present, this tool can only perform limited tasks compared to the actual power of fontconfig. This can be used with font collection managers like Fontmatrix and the most recent one, Font Manager (http://fontmanager.blogspot.com). The latter has inspired this work as well. Currently Fontik can be used to: * Set hinting method for for individual fonts. * Add alias (an alternate name for the font which can be picked up by applications) for a font. * Tweak matrix size of font if needed. (Playing around with this is not recommended, usually) * Blacklist fonts if the user doesn't like them or they take precedence over other fonts of similar family. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. As another example, the File menu can be accessed by pressing Meta-F. The main audience for Tilde is users who normally work in GUI environments, but sometimes require an editor for a console/terminal environment. This may be because the computer in question is a server which does not provide a GUI, or is accessed remotely over SSH. Tilde allows these users to edit files without having to learn a completely new interface, such as vi or Emacs do. It has been designed to : * Be as simple as possible to set up: No complex configuration files to edit - Your backup configuration (which is stored as an XML file) can be edited with Areca's graphical user interface. * Be as versatile as possible: Areca can use advanced backup modes (like delta backup) or simply produce a basic copy of your source files as a standard directory or zip archive (readable by WinZip or other archivers). * Allow you to interact with your archives and the files they contain: Track different versions of a specific file, browse your archives, recover or view specific files, merge a set of archives, ... -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#682575: leptonica-progs: Please include more programs from prog/
Package: leptonica-progs Severity: wishlist Hi. I noticed that there are a lot of useful programs in the prog/ subdirectory of the leptonica lib. It would be nice to include more of those in the Debian package. I found flipdetect_reg.c particularly useful which I used in a project, but I was forced to compile the whole leptonica lib from source because Debian didn't have it and I couldn't get the deb-src package to build with the autotools in wheezy. I also noticed that Debian is handled differently in the leptonica lib source (there is a Makefile.am.debian which includes only a few of the progs). Is there a reason for this? Bug#670958: [regression] HP ProBook 451x: udev/power_supply battery oscilates between remove and add
Package: src:linux-2.6 Followup-For: Bug #670958 Hi. I return with new info. So, I tried the latest upstream kernel (3.4.0-rc5+) and the problem is still there. In the meantime, I stumbled upon a forum thread [1] on the Archlinux forum which describes that after kernel 2.6.38.2-1, backlight setting stopped working on 2 HP laptop models. Backlight isn't working on my model as well (since as far as I can remember). I tried with acpi_backlight=video, acpi_backlight=legacy and acpi_backlight=vendor at boot, but nothing worked. Backlight doesn't work neither by setting /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness. 1: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=117556 So this is starting to look like an ACPI problem more and more. And I'm betting it affects the majority of HP laptops released after 2008 - 2009 which have the same ACPI and BIOS implementation. So far I have determined that the following HP laptop models are affected: - HP Probook 451x - HP Compaq 315 (Ralf's) - HP 6735-s (alculquicondor from the Archlinux forum thread) ACPI functionalities that are broken so far: - power_supply (battery and AC events - this bug) - backlight setting I don't know what's the next best course of action. I guess I can start getting dirty and bissecting the releases between 2.6.37 and 2.6.38~rc6... I hope to have some results soon. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#601948: linux-image-3.2.0-2-686-pae: Fails to resume from hibernate (all pm_test modes pass)
Package: linux-2.6 Followup-For: Bug #601948 Hi. I'm also suffering from this on linux-image-3.2.0-2-686-pae, HP ProBook 4515s. The behaviour is exactly the same. It looks like the kernel *doesn't even try* to resume from the file on the filesystem (BTW: how does the kernel know from where to resume? I have never understood that; it's a kind of magic for me). I also have run all the tests Documentation/power/basic-pm-debugging.txt and all the /sys/power/pm_test tests work fine. The ones with echo platform /sys/power/disk and echo disk /sys/power/state don't run, obviously, as the kernel doesn't try to resume from the filesystem. Running with init=/bin/bash gives the same: bash: echo: write error: No such device. Suspend-to-RAM and resume from suspend works fine. I remember that hibernation worked in the past, but I haven't used it for some time because I mainly keep my laptop connected to the AC and I use Suspend-to-RAM alot. Now I was curious to check if hibernation works and... bummer. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-2-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I tried booting with acpi_backlight=legacy|vendor, but all they did was to keep the brightness to maximum; keyboard shortcuts didn't do anything and also echo 10 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness didn't do anything. Booting without the acpi_backlight kernel parameter just dims the LCD to a lower brightness level, but again, I can't change it neither through the keyboard, nor the sysfs interface. I preffer to keep it to maximum with the acpi_backlight=vendor. I also tried booting with acpi_osi=Linux, but it made no change whatsoever. Bug#671116: linux-image-3.2.0-2-686-pae: LCD backlight setting doesn't work on HP ProBook 451x
Package: linux-2.6 Followup-For: Bug #671116 Good news. After applying the latest BIOS update from HP, setting the LCD backlight started to work through the sysfs interface. I had to remove the acpi_backlight kernel boot parameter and then it started to work. echo 10 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness changes the LCD brightness. Bug#670958: linux-image-3.2.0-2-686-pae: udev/power_supply battery oscilates between remove and add
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.15-1 Severity: normal Hi. I'm using Debian Wheezy/Testing, kernel 3.2.15-1 on a HP PowerBook 4515s laptop. I noticed that /var/log/syslog is getting spammed with messages from laptop-mode, like in the attached syslog-laptop-mode_spam.log.gz file. Also, at the same time, upower --monitor shows the messages from upower-monitor.log.gz. In Windows XP I don't see any issue with the battery and also running HP Battery Check [1] I got the result that the battery is functioning correctly, but is week (admittedly it is more than a year old, but still holds a charge for 30 mins). 1: http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm So it looks like a kernel issue. I started checking the udev events with 'udevadm monitor --property' and got the messages from the udevadm_monitor.log.gz file. This happens only when the battery and the power cable are connected. When running with the battery removed or without the power cable connected (running only on battery) this is not happening. Here are some more discussions about this: - a Debian Bug reported [2] - and also a thread on the Upower mailinglist [3] 2: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=638970 3: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/devkit-devel/2012-February/001225.html I hope this gets solved rather soon. With top, I see the upowerd daemon using quite a lot of CPU from time to time. Which file has the change you are referring to? git shortlog v2.6.37..v2.6.38-rc6 doesn't show me anything obvious fitting that description. This was just a wild hunch. Bug#643028: network-manager-gnome: refuses to join new wireless networks
Package: network-manager-gnome Version: 0.9.2.0-2 Followup-For: Bug #643028 I am using lightdm as session manager and openbox and I also experienced this issue with network-manager-applet not reacting when trying to connect to wireless networks. At first I solved it by starting /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 from openbox's autostart script (~/.config/openbox/autostart). Then I noticed the file /etc/xdg/autostart/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.desktop which starts polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1, but only for GNOME, XFCE, Unity (see the line OnlyShowIn=GNOME;XFCE;Unity;). So I copied /etc/xdg/autostart/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.desktop to ~/.config/autostart/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.desktop, removed the line OnlyShowIn=GNOME;XFCE;Unity; and now it works. Still, I think that this should be made more clear in the documentation as not many people have Enable menu shortcut keys activated. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages roxterm depends on: ii libatk1.0-0 1.18.0-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.6-5GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.10-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-3 1.1.1-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.74-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.2-1library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-02.12.13-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.10.13-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.5-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-2 PNG library - runtime ii libvte9 1:0.16.8-1 Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.8-2X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxft2 2.1.12-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxi6 2:1.1.2-1X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.2-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.6.29.dfsg-1GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.1-1X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.2-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-5 compression library - runtime roxterm recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#435989: roxterm: Additional information
Package: roxterm Version: 1.5.2-2 Followup-For: Bug #435989 I noticed that if I modify a shortcut in the menu (by hovering over the menu item and pressing the key combination that I want) the ..config/roxterm.sourceforge.net/Shortcuts gets created and I can copy the profile through configuration editor. Still, roxterm should create the directory on startup if it doesn't exist, so that one could copy the Default profile using Configuration editor regardless if he changed any of the shortcuts of not.
