Bug#716058: [Mayhem] Bug report on hebcal: hebcal crashes with exit status 139
Hi, I noticed this bug in upstream (https://github.com/hebcal/hebcal/issues/173) but the original "full report" on forallsecure is now a 404. Does anyone have a saved copy of the original crash report? -- Ambrose Li | Time zone: GMT-4 (Eastern) ambroseli.ca “Any organization which designs a system… will inevitably produce a design whose structure is a copy of the organization’s communication structure.” — Conway’s Law

It happens unpredictably, but fairly frequently with our web site if you leave iceweasel running for a couple of days without quitting. And this doesn't seem to happen with any other browser. I don't really think this is an iceweasel (i.e., Debian-specific) thing, but I haven't used non-Debian firefox on Linux for so long that I don't know if I should file the bug upstream or not. Have you been able to reproduce this problem in the past years with the newer versions of Iceweasel from either Lenny or Squeeze ? Sorry but I have not been able to update my Debian for the past year due to some conflict between libc and kernel versions. If I manage to upgrade libc I'll upgrade my Debian and test this out. I, for one, certainly never experienced such bugs, while I'm leaving iceweasel virtually always running. Perhaps it has to do the way my proxy settings are configured? Just a wild guess. Bug#471763: /var/run/screen permission weirdness
Hi, On Sat, Jul 25, 2009 at 03:40:25PM +0200, Jan Christoph Nordholz wrote: Hi. I'm still looking for an upgrade path that reproduces this bug. Up to 4.0.3-0.3 /var/run/screen was part of the package tarball (and mode 0775 root:utmp), then it got moved out of it and its creation postponed to the initscript (for volatile /var/run mounts) or postinst - also root:utmp and with permissions in accordance to the setid bits on the binary. It would be great if you could show me a way to see this happen myself. Until then I don't want to change the lines in the initscript and probably cover the bug. Sorry, I don't have an upgrade path. I only do the sporadic apt-get upgrade and an apt-get dist-upgrade once in a blue moon. Sometimes things don't work out and when I report that they just say upgrading from xxx to yyy is not supported even though I have no intention to nor would I have know that my apt-get upgrade would have resulted in something unsupported. Basically I feel that this points to a design flaw in the apt system, but I have said that before and people had not agreed with me, though I cannot understand why. Bug#432865: initscripts: Allow option to always fsck serially in checkfs.sh
On Thu, Jan 03, 2008 at 12:59:32PM -0500, Theodore Tso wrote: - The system contains at least one very large partition. - At startup time, fsck starts to check all partitions (say because the box had a very long uptime) - fsck chose to run two checkers, one on a small partition and one on the big partition - fsck chose to display the progress bar on the small partition - fsck finish checking the small partition and continues to check all the other smaller partitions - fsck continues to check the large partition WITHOUT ANY PROGRESS BARS If the large partition is so large that it takes, say, an hour to finish, the machine will appear to be hung. Have you actually *seen* this happening, or are you positing this as a theoretical situation just from reading the fsck man page. In fact, the way fsck works is that when a child e2fsck finishes, fsck will look for another ext2/ext3 filesystem check taking place, and send that child e2fsck an USR1 signal, which requests it to start displaying a progress bar. Yes, I have seen this happening. And in fact I pressed the big Reset button a couple of times before realizing that fsck was checking the huge partition. (I forgot how I got to realize that though, since it is very non-obvious. I suppose it was during a manual fsck, maybe within a screen(1) session.) (I forgot to mention in my original report that this will happen only if the huge partition is on a separate physical disk from the small partitions. Obviously everyone who has read my report so far knows this must be the case, but I just to want the records to have this explicitly mentioned somewhere.) So in fact, the right thing should be happening today, to avoid the problem which you described above. It is not. Or at least it was not when I filed my original report. If it was not but is not any more, then my report can be closed as fixed. (Or it could be a packaging problem. Apparently, upgrading programs on Debian sometimes fails to automatically upgrade its associated libraries. I have been told not to upgrade my system piecemeal, but it sounds philosophically wrong to require the user to know what program requires what libraries and manually specify everything in an apt-get install.) Bug#441098: pidgin packaging error or bug in apt
Package: pidgin Version: 2.1.1-1 Severity: normal This is either a packaging error in pidgin, or a bug in apt. Summary: apt-get install pidgin causes apt-get to claim that it requires pidgin-data both = 2.1.1 and 2.1.1, which obviously can't be met; but if you apt-get install pidgin pidgin-data (i.e., explicitly specify pidgin-data) then it finds no dependency problem. So there is no actual dependency problem, but apt-get somehow doesn't know that pidgin-data is a real dependency. tea:/Downloads/pub/win# LANG=C apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Package: libgphoto2-2 Version: 2.4.0-2 Severity: normal Note: This problem has occurred for some months now, but in old versions of gphoto2 this problem DID NOT EXIST. It was introduced some months ago. In current (and recent) versions of gphoto2, using --delete-file on a Canon G2 camera results in the photo (.crw) being deleted but the thumbnails (.thm) not deleted. When the camera is put back into playback mode, the deleted photos appear as tiny thumbnails with the text Unidentified image. Bug#436696: iceweasel: Intermittent problems with 304 HTTP redirects
Package: iceweasel Version: 2.0.0.3-1 Severity: normal This has been a problem for some years already so this is not new. After an indeterminate amount of time (usually several days, sometimes shorter but sometimes longer), firefox/iceweasel will suddenly stop processing 304 HTTP redirects correctly. It will see the 304, attempt to load the redirected page, but instead of loading it from the origin server or the configured proxy, will (apparently) attempt to load it from the local file system. The result is this error message: File not found Iceweasel can't find the file at (path to the page excluding protocol and server name). * Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors. * Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted. (Try Again) (Note: This conclusion is drawn from the following observations: 1. Both the proxy and the origin server sees and logs the initial request for the page; both logs the 304 reply 2. The error message contains the path to the redirected page, so the browser sees the 304 reply with the correct path 3. However, the origin server does not see (log) any request for the redirected page, so the browser has stopped contacting the server after seeing the 304) At this point firefox/iceweasel will respond to reloads as follows: - Regular Reload - no effect (continues to display the above error) - Shift-Reload - This seems to reset firefox/iceweasel's internal state and cause it to contact the origin server or configured proxy again -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.16.2 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages iceweasel depends on: ii debianutils 2.22.1 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii fontconfig 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libatk1.0-0 1.18.0-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.6-2GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.10-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.2-20070609-1 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-02.12.12-1+b1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.10.13-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libjpeg62 6b-13The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libmyspell3c2 1:3.1-18 MySpell spellchecking library ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.4-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-2 PNG library - runtime ii libstdc++6 4.2-20070609-1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxft2 2.1.12-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxinerama11:1.0.2-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxp6 1:1.0.0.xsf1-1 X Printing Extension (Xprint) clie ii libxrender1 1:0.9.2-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt6 1:1.0.5-3X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii psmisc 22.5-1 Utilities that use the proc filesy ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-5 compression library - runtime iceweasel recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#432865: initscripts: Allow option to always fsck serially in checkfs.sh
Package: initscripts Version: 2.86.ds1-38 Severity: normal The checkfs.sh script currently does not use the -s option, so fsck will try to check more than one filesystem at a time. Checkfs.sh also uses -C to display a progress bar. However, from fsck's manpage, fsck only displays one progress bar at a time even when two checkers are run. This leads to the following possible scenario where fsck may appear to be frozen while it is actively checking a filesystem: - The system contains at least one very large partition. A better way is to use the -s option, or allow the system to be configured in such a way that the -s option can be used. Then all checks will have a progress bar and the machine will not appear to be hung when doing fsck's. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.16.2 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages initscripts depends on: ii debianut 2.21.3 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii e2fsprog 1.39+1.40-WIP-2007.04.07+dfsg-2 ext2 file system utilities and lib hi libc62.5-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.1-23.1Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii mount2.12r-19Tools for mounting and manipulatin ii sysvinit 2.86.ds1-38 System-V-like utilities Versions of packages initscripts recommends: ii psmisc22.5-1 Utilities that use the proc filesy -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#332685: Please update your Debian openoffice.org bug report
Yes, the bug still exists in the latest OpenOffice on unstable, with the same symptoms (no line spacing under 7.1pt or over 283.5pt). And this is not a minor problem. Since Microsoft Office does not have these restrictons, this means that OOo Writer is not compatible with Microsoft Office even if the user does not use advanced features like mail merge. Bug#328140: Please update your Debian openoffice.org bug report
This seems to be fixed in the version in unstable. PS: I don't understand this request; this took me one minute to verify, even though I have to take the trouble to log in remotely, through ssh, over a WAN link. PS: I also would have expected that either the severity be changed or a note posted explaining why a data-loss type bug is considered by Debian to be only normal; this has not happened even though so much time has passed that the bug has to be closed due to it being too old. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#330232: Please update your Debian openoffice.org bug report
The bug still affects the latest Ooo in unstable. As soon as anchor is changed to page, the image is homed to the top-left corner (i.e., not even the horizontal position is reset to zero, the VERTICAL position also changes for no reason). PS: I don't understand this request. I have included a very straightforward test case which took only 1 minute to verify (after taking 2 to 3 minutes fighting OOo's scim-related bugs). A non-Chinese person certainly can reproduce this in just 1 minute. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#416865: Acknowledgement (openoffice.org-writer: Insert Symbol causes oowriter to hang)
I am postulating that this might have to do with the new OpenOffice trying to find fonts to display characters that does not exist in the chosen font. For font that is causing the strange behaviour has only a few characters defined. But in OOo's Insert symbol dialog (which takes several minutes for it to show up), it has some extra characters (including some diacritical marks) that should not be there. This is definitely wrong behaviour, because if I choose a font, I only want OOo to show all the characters that actually exist in that font. It should not show me characters from another font to confuse me. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It worked before I did an apt-get upgrade (but I didn't write down what version I had as I didn't expect any problems). I couldn't get it to work, and I reinstalled from the version in etch. When I reinstalled the unstable version to get the log message, it stopped the mysql from etch, which is what the log I sent you was. Or is the new build depending on a particular kernel feature at compile time? I am asking because I compile my own kernel and it is not the latest kernel series; squid also gives me problem since a number of months ago and I was told that squid will never be fixed, so I am setting apt to hold squid to avoid the new builds from getting installed. The only reason I know why mysql completetly stoppes but still not crashes is when it tries to write but there is not enough space on the disc. Do you use innodb so that it maybe tries to extend the table space? On which partition is it? It's on the /var partition which is 63% full. Bug#403642: whois: Truncation of output not overridable
Package: whois Version: 4.7.20 Severity: important If the whois server produces alledgely-excessively-long output, whois truncates the output and produces a Answer from RIR truncated message. This behaviour cannot be overridden by any command-line option or any other means. Nor is the number of lines deemed excessively long configurable. Unfortunately, the Brasillian whois server routinely outputs extremely verbose output, and thus frequently causes this truncation problem. Package: mutt Version: 1.5.13-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n In practice, GB-based Chinese emails with traditional characters are tagged as GB2312 even though technically speaking they are in GB18030. This results in the bizzare situation where certain Chinese mails are displayed as garbage (bakemoji) in mutt's text viewer, but is displayed correctly by external viewers such as w3m. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages mutt depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdb4.44.4.20-8 Berkeley v4.4 Database Libraries [ ii libgnutls13 1.4.4-3 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libidn110.6.5-1 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libncursesw55.5-5Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libsasl22.1.19.dfsg1-0.5 Authentication abstraction library ii zmailer [mail-transport 2.99.56-2Mailer for Extreme Performance Dem Versions of packages mutt recommends: ii locales 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: National Language ( ii mime-support 3.37-1 MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#402035: mutt: Mutt's internal text viewer confused by out-of-range GB2312 characters
Package: mutt Version: 1.5.13-1 Severity: important Tags: l10n (The following is in the Big5 charset) Consider the following byte sequence, a GB18030 message incorrectly tagged as GB2312 (see wishlist item #402027): 000 c2 a0 d6 76 d9 46 cc 8e b7 ea df 4c b6 fe d3 d0 020 c6 b9 c5 d2 9a c2 bb ee 84 d3 a3 ac b5 ab be 57 040 ed 93 c9 cf 93 68 df ed b5 bd When displayed on a Big5 terminal, mutt's internal viewer renders this as mojibake: ???v?F??逢?L二有乒乓?祿??櫻?但?W??上?h唔到 (i.e., 000 3f 3f 3f 76 3f 46 3f 3f b3 7b 3f 4c a4 47 a6 b3 020 a5 e2 a5 e3 3f b8 53 3f 3f c4 e5 3f a6 fd 3f 57 040 3f 3f a4 57 3f 68 ad f8 a8 ec in Big5) There are a couple of problems with this output: 1. In an allegedly-GB2312 string, any high byte following pure ASCII should be treated as the lead byte of a presumed double-byte character, even if it is invalid GB2312. The sequences ?v, ?F, ?L, and ?h are all meaningless and should all be simply ?? (because they are unknown kanji, not pairs of unknown 8-bit character followed by valid ASCII). 2. The output 祿 [b8 53] and 櫻 [c4 e5] cannot be explained; they don't seem to be related to the original gb18030 in any way. (While the real problem is #2, the cause of #2 is quite possibly #1.) When the same message is piped to w3m with an argument explicitly telling it that the input is GB2312 (as incorrectly tagged), it correctly renders it as: 聽講貴處逢週二有乒乓毬活動,但網頁上??唔到 (i.e., 000 c5 a5 c1 bf b6 51 b3 42 b3 7b b6 67 a4 47 a6 b3 020 a5 e2 a5 e3 b2 41 ac a1 b0 ca a1 41 a6 fd ba f4 040 ad b6 a4 57 3f 3f ad f8 a8 ec in Big5) This implies that mutt's internal viewer is confused by invalid GB2312 and fails to correctly replace out-of-range byte sequences with the ?? string. (When the same message is piped to w3m without any optional arguments, w3m correctly detects 18030 and renders it as intended. But this is OT.) This *might* be the same bug as or a related bug of #249626, since the symptoms seem identical, though it is a different character set. If this is the same bug, it is probably affecting all other CJK encodings as well. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages mutt depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdb4.44.4.20-8 Berkeley v4.4 Database Libraries [ ii libgnutls13 1.4.4-3 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libidn110.6.5-1 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libncursesw55.5-5Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libsasl22.1.19.dfsg1-0.5 Authentication abstraction library ii zmailer [mail-transport 2.99.56-2Mailer for Extreme Performance Dem Versions of packages mutt recommends: ii locales 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: National Language ( ii mime-support 3.37-1 MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap -- no debconf information

Bug#292202: cvs: Still buggy in 1.12.13-5
Package: cvs Version: 1:1.12.13-5 Followup-For: Bug #292202 It has been almost 2 years since I filed the report. I wish to report that the bug still exists in the 1.12.13-5 version of cvs. To summarize again, 1. If a file has been removed (from local and the repository) using cvs rm, doing a subsequent cvs add (without the file being present) causes cvs to act as advertised and tells you to use cvs commit to commit the resurrection. 2. However, when you actually do the cvs commit, cvs will complain that Up-to-date check failed for the file in question. (Obviously, because the file is NOT supposed to be there.) 3. If you use cvs co or some other means to manually restore the local copy first, the cvs commit succeeds. This step should not be necessary. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages cvs depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.5.9 Debian configuration management sy ii libc62.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libpam-runtime 0.79-4 Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 0.79-4 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime Versions of packages cvs recommends: ii info [info-browser] 4.8.dfsg.1-3 Standalone GNU Info documentation ii konqueror [info-browser]4:3.5.3-2KDE's advanced file manager, web b ii netbase 4.25 Basic TCP/IP networking system -- debconf information: cvs/rotatekeep: 7 * cvs/badrepositories: ignore cvs/rotatekeep_nondefault: no cvs/rotate_individual: true cvs/pserver_repos_individual: true cvs/pserver_setspawnlimit: false cvs/rotatekeep_individual: 7 cvs/pserver_repos: all * cvs/pserver: false cvs/cvs_conf_is_dead: * cvs/repositories: /var/lib/cvs cvs/pserver_spawnlimit: 400 cvs/rotatehistory: no -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#399140: flashplugin-nonfree: Upgrade fails with misleading error message
On Sat, Nov 18, 2006 at 09:18:16AM +0100, Bart Martens wrote: - The package says it is downloading the file (even though squid does not log anything), It uses wget to download. I'm not sure about logging in squid. Assuming that it uses a http:// URL, all downloads should go through squid at my site, including a transparent proxy at the router in case people try not to use a proxy. So if it actually even tried to download anything, there should be something (at least a 404 or something) logged by squid here. Sorry for the missing detail. then after a while a second screen appears and tells the user again that the file cannot be located. This means that the download failed for some reason. Was networking up? Maybe a temporary problem at the download site? I have tried upgrading from flash 7 to 9 just now, and it works. I tried both 9.0.21.55.2 and 9.0.21.55.3. Yes, networking was up at the time. Assuming that the package's scripts do not reset $http_proxy, all downloads should be logged by squid on the localhost (and even if it for some reason reset http_proxy, the squid on the transparent proxy should have logged the download), so it appears to me that for some unknown reason it did not actually try to do the download. This time, it specifically asks the user Have you already downloaded the install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz package from Macromedia? (Note the file name... Here dpkg tries to fall back on the previous flash package. That message is from a previous flashplugin-nonfree version. This is confusing because I did have the file downloaded about a year ago, so if it really tried to fall back on the previous version, it should have found the file it tries to the previous version in the directory specified, and then proceed without any error messages. So there must have been something OTHER than a download problem going on here. I guess this looks like my apt is somehow half broken and is affecting the flash plugin's installation scripts; I wonder if there is some way to bump up apt's verbosity and log errors somewhere... :-( [stuff deleted] My impression is that the grave severity was correct for 9.0.21.55.2. Bug#399140: flashplugin-nonfree: Upgrade fails with misleading error message
Package: flashplugin-nonfree Version: 9.0.21.55.2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable This report is for: flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.21.55.2 (NOT 7.0.68.0.1) The package (9.0.21.55.2) cannot be installed due to the following reasons: - It asks the user to locate the tar.gz from Macromedia without telling the user *which file* (file name). The user has downloaded the file last year, so he/she enters the path name. - The package then tells the user that the file cannot be located. The user is confused, but out of desperation presses Enter to download the file. - The package says it is downloading the file (even though squid does not log anything), then after a while a second screen appears and tells the user again that the file cannot be located. This time, it specifically asks the user Have you already downloaded the install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz package from Macromedia? (Note the file name... the user becomes more confused because the file so named is indeed present) - The package still cannot find the file no matter what the user does. Then the installation fails. - The user takes the extraordinary effort to unpack the deb file in /tmp and look inside control.tar.gz, and finds that it actually is looking for flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.21.55.2_i386.deb and not install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz. - The user proceeds to download the required file and retries. - When the package asks for the directory it is entered. - Then the install fails abruptly with Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.21.55.2_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) without any further explanation. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages flashplugin-nonfree depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.8 Debian configuration management sy ii gsfonts-x11 0.20 Make Ghostscript fonts available t ii libxext6 1:1.0.1-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxmu6 1:1.0.2-2 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxt61:1.0.2-2 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii wget 1.10.2-2 retrieves files from the web Versions of packages flashplugin-nonfree recommends: ii xfs 1:1.0.1-5 X font server -- debconf information: * flashplugin-nonfree/httpget: true * flashplugin-nonfree/not_exist: flashplugin-nonfree/http_proxy: * flashplugin-nonfree/local: * flashplugin-nonfree/delete: false flashplugin-nonfree/failed: -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#380153: konqueror: Konqueror not applying CSS to MENU elements correctly
Package: konqueror Version: 4:3.5.3-2 Severity: normal Given identical HTML and identical CSS, except for the difference that one uses the MENU tag and the other uses the UL tag, Konqueror will render the one that uses MENU in a very inconsistent way. The following HTML snippet illustrates the problem: --- cut here -- 8 - style type=text/css html, body { color: black; background-color: white; } /* All links */ #topnav a { text-decoration: none; color: inherit; padding-left: 0.5em; padding-right: 0.5em; } #topnav a:hover { color: white; background-color: black; } #topnav ul { list-style: none; } /* Main horizontal menu */ #topnav ul li { float: left; } /* Submenus */ #topnav li ul { display: none; } #topnav li:hover ul { display: block; } #topnav li ul { position: absolute; float: none; padding-left: 0; border: 2px solid black; } #topnav li ul li { display: block; position: relative; float: none; } #topnav li ul li a { display: block; } /style div id=topnav ul lia href=#File/a ul lia href=#New/a lia href=#Open/a lia href=#Close/a lia href=#Save/a lia href=#Quit/a /ul lia href=#Edit/a ul lia href=#Undo/a lia href=#Cut/a lia href=#Copy/a lia href=#Paste/a /ul lia href=#View/a lia href=#Help/a /ul /div --- cut here -- 8 - This will generate a screen that looks like a normal GUI with File, Edit, View and Help menus. If the user hovers the cursor over File or Edit, a submenu is displayed; i.e., the screen looks like this: File Edit View Help and, when hovered over File, File Edit View Help New Open Close Save Quit and, when hovered over Edit, File Edit View Help Undo Cut Copy Paste This is also the way Mozilla displays the HTML. If the ul tags are replaced with menu tags, the screen will look completely garbled like this: File New Open Close Save Quit * Edit * View * Help The visible differences between this and how Konqueror renders the ul version are: - The first submenu are interspersed between File and Edit - Unexpected bullets and alignment for the last 3 items The inconsistencies seem to be caused by Konqueror being confused by nested MENU elements, as can be seen from the following symptoms: - The text contained inside the LI elements inside the nested MENU are displayed as if they were part of the outermost MENU - The close tag of the nested MENU caused Konqueror to think that the outermost MENU has closed - Subsequent LI elements seem to have caused Konqueror to insert an implicit UL, thus causing the styling for MENU (specifically the list-style and float properties) to be not applied - The Edit MENU is nested within the implicit UL (if UL is indeed the implicitly-inserted tag), and Konqueror is thus not confused by the nesting, and displays the submenu as expected The behaviour of MENU should be identical to UL. So nested MENU's are definitely allowed. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages konqueror depends on: ii kcontrol4:3.5.3-2control center for KDE ii kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.3-2core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.3-1core libraries and binaries for al ii kdesktop4:3.5.3-2miscellaneous binaries and files f ii kfind 4:3.5.3-2file-find utility for KDE ii libacl1 2.2.39-1 Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-22.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr12.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio2 1.8-1The Network Audio System (NAS). Bug#378902: konqueror: upgrade of GB2312 charset to GB18030 when necessary
Package: konqueror Version: 4:3.5.3-2 Severity: wishlist Tags: l10n See http://www.chinesecj.com The page identifies itself as GB2312, but it's actually in GB18030, which is a superset of GB2312. The result is that the page is partially garbled. For the GB2312-compatible encodings, Konqueror only supports GB2312 and GB18030. The user can work around this by manually switching to GB18030, BUT if the user proceeds with clicking a link to the traditional Chinese version of the site, the pages switches to the Big5 charset, and the site now becomes completely garbled. It might be helpful if the charset is automatically upgraded to GB18030 if a GB2312 characters are seen on a page which claims to be GB2312. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages konqueror depends on: ii kcontrol4:3.5.3-2control center for KDE ii kdebase-kio-plugins 4:3.5.3-2core I/O slaves for KDE ii kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.3-1core libraries and binaries for al ii kdesktop4:3.5.3-2miscellaneous binaries and files f ii kfind 4:3.5.3-2file-find utility for KDE ii libacl1 2.2.39-1 Access control list shared library ii libart-2.0-22.3.17-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libattr12.4.32-1 Extended attribute shared library ii libaudio2 1.8-1The Network Audio System (NAS). Bug#378248: openoffice.org: Text overlapping checkboxes in Paragraph Styles dialog
Package: openoffice.org Version: 2.0.2.99.2.0.3rc6-1 Severity: important In the Chinese locale, the Organizer tab in the Paragraph Styles dialog in Writer looks like this: Name Default [ ][X][AutoUpdate The third checkbox is covered by the AutoUpdate label. If I click the second checkbox which has the check mark, the screen flashes a bit and then the checkmark becomes disabled but there's still a check mark, indicating that Writer's notion of where the checkboxes are is different from where they really are on the screen. So there's some layout problem with that dialog, and basically this tab in this dialog is unusable in the Chinese locale. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-ow1 Locale: LANG=zh_TW.Big5, LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.Big5 (charmap=BIG5) Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on: ii openoffice.org-base 2.0.3-2 OpenOffice.org office suite - data ii openoffice.org-calc 2.0.2.99.2.0.3rc6-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - spre ii openoffice.org-core 2.0.3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite archit ii openoffice.org-draw 2.0.3-2 OpenOffice.org office suite - draw ii openoffice.org-impre 2.0.3-2 OpenOffice.org office suite - pres ii openoffice.org-java- 2.0.3-2 OpenOffice.org office suite Java s ii openoffice.org-math 2.0.3-2 OpenOffice.org office suite - equa ii openoffice.org-write 2.0.3-2 OpenOffice.org office suite - word openoffice.org recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#358039: scim: Chinese input with * does not work well.
Hi, On Mon, Jun 19, 2006 at 05:42:47AM +0900, Osamu Aoki wrote: I see. But which Chinese input rule set do you use? Pinyin, Chewing, ... or any of the table method. I tried Kantonese pinyin and alas, * is processed funny way. I usually use Changjei and Cantonese (both table methods), sometimes pinyin. Support for the wildcard key in scim is not good, but it exists; however, in Debian, even when the wildcard key is set, pressing it does not produce any response from the scim system. That is strange. SCIM is project lead by Chinese and joined by Japanese and Korean. So Chinese support should be in the best shape. I guess this probably may be because SCIM was originally designed for simplified Chinese. SCIM's pinyin input method is very good and there's no need for wildcard keys, but for traditional Chinese it is more useful. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#358039: scim: What kind of wild card key?
Hi, Wildcard key is a feature in Chinese input methods. (This has nothing to do with entering asterisks.) For example, to decompose the traditional character for country, using the Changjei input method, the decomposition is wirm. Suppose the user forgot the decomposition, but is sure that it begins with wi and ends with m, using the wildcard key feature, he/she can enter wi*m, and the system will display all characters whose decomposition begins with wi and ends with m; the user then can select the correct character. Support for the wildcard key in scim is not good, but it exists; however, in Debian, even when the wildcard key is set, pressing it does not produce any response from the scim system.
