Bug#702401: Documentation for configurable text export is outdated
By the way, if you check the documentation of the File Menu in the Menus section of the Gnumeric Manual , you find: "Save As... — The Save As... menu item allows users to save a file which has not yet been named to a named file. This is always used when a user saves a file which Gnumeric has named by default. This menu item can also be used to save a newly created file or to save an existing file to a new and different name. To export data from Gnumeric to a non-spreadsheet format, use the Data menu described in The Data Menu. For an explanation of the file formats which Gnumeric supports see Saving Files." You are of course right that the configurable-text-export section itself has not yet been updated. Andreas -- Andreas J. Bug#687729: fcitx: makes gnumeric cursor keys edit (and delete) instead of navigate
A general statement such as "Custom GTK widget are very likely to have bad behavior." is obviously utter nonsense. It seems that fcitx is leaking keystrokes to Gnumeric. That is not a Gnuemric bug. Input methods such as fcitx are required to be invisible to any application. Andreas -- Andreas J. Gnumeric does not know the '新細明體' font and so has to guess the character widths. We obviously are guessing slightly wrong. so that's why the times are wrapped onto a second line. Without knowing the correct character widths, Gnumeric has no way of knowing what the author intended. Andreas -- Andreas J. Bug#666699: Debian Bug report logs - #666699
This partially depends on the version you are using. In 1.10.x you would choose save as and specify the file type you want to save as at the bottom of that dialog. You may notice you can even select various versions of html. In 1.11.x you would select data->export but you still have to choose the file type at the bottom of the dialog. Gnumeric has 14 different export formats (beside the 9 save as formats). It really makes more sense for you to select them in the above dailog rather than having a huge menu. Andreas -- Andreas J. Bug#662877: gnumeric: IFERROR saved in formats that do not recognise it
Gnumeric does not write OpenOffice files. We write files in Open Document Format version 1.2 and IFERROR is defined in that standard. OpenOffice may only implement a subset of ODF 1.2. In any case, ODF 1.2 also defines how to save additional functions and we are doing that according to the standard for any functions not defined there. Moreover IFERROR(X,Y) is not equivalent to IF(ISERROR(X),Y,X). Since the latter evaluates X twice, potentially yielding different values. Andreas -- Andreas J. Bug#609984: l10n: CSV export should be performed in the C locale
Why does this make the file non-portable? There is no "csv-specification" that prefers one over the other. Gnumeric for example can open either. Bug#257945: davs...
The php5.conf file attaches a mime-type via a FileMatch. That appears to override ForceType. In php4.conf the extension was mapped to a type. That works fine with ForceType. So by usingthe phpo4 version of attaching the extensions to the mime-type/handler for php5, ForceType works again in the dav setup and it is trivial to have php files served via dav asif they were text. Bug#495144: critical
Any bug that causes the equivalent of a crash is critical. I you think that one can do without that menu item then remove the menu item. There is no way I can use a program in one of my classes that will hang if a student selects an obvious menu item to run their program. What would users of gnumeric say if we just ignore crashes with the comment "just don't do that". Bug#308068: Sorting does not update hyperlinks
When sorting you can choose whether you like to have formats including hyperlinks moved or not. (This has been around for a while but maybe not in version 1.4.3). To use that feature either use the sort dialog or set the appropriate sort preference in the preference window. So this "bug" is definitely fixed in 1.6.x and later. Bug#448445: print preview broken: Unknown option --print-settings in evince
This is really a configuration issue. Some things to note: Newer versions of evince understand the --print-settings option Gnumeric does not pass this option to evince. We just hand-off printing (and previewing) to Gtk. Gtk then calls the appropriate pdf viewer. WHat is the "appropriate" previewer can be configured in .gtkrc-2.0 located in your home directory. The important entry is: gtk-print-preview-command="evince --unlink-tempfile --preview %f the above line should work for most older versions of evince. Of ocurse you can also use other programs such as: gtk-print-preview-command="gv %f" or gtk-print-preview-command="xpdf -q %f" Note that evince is preferred since gtk creates temporary files and --unlink-tempfile tells evince to delete them. The otehr commands will keep those temporary pdf files around. We are experiencing a similar issue and may have some light to shed on the issue (especially for others that may experience it to). We are running ltsp thin-clients connecting via xdmcp to a debian "unstable" amd64 machine. We occasionally got the same error. It turned out that the error occurs until some application does something along the lines of: xset fp default That command itself fixed the problem. Since we don't seem to do anything strange with the fontpath I don't know why this command makes a dfference but it fixed the problem. (So we inserted it into the R shell script.) Bug#354115: bug fix causes problems
To drop the order bind, hosts line from /etc/host.conf is very ill advised. It just took me a large number of hours to track the problem that an essential (for us) software package stopped working thanks for this unnecessary bug fix. I call it unnecessary since that line is simply not used in recent versions of glibc. This program that failed for us is Mathematica version 4.0. This is a statically linked program that uses the order line of /etc/host.conf. (While some in our department have migrated to maxima, several members are still using Mathematica, and failure to have this run correctly is a major problem!) Bug#292811: There should be an autosave function so less is lost in case of crash
Gnumeric has an autosave function already. You just need to switch it on (Tools->Autosave). You may want to suggest to have AutoSave on by default. This has been discused at length and the problem is that for some users that may also lead to dataloss. Andreas -- Prof. Dr. Andreas J.
