Bug#465850: flashplugin-nonfree: does not install: download failed, get-lastminute failed

2008-02-17 Thread Andreas Kroschel

> Any additional info available ?

Found something: When I unset $http_proxy, update-flashplugin-nonfree
succeeds. It is still a mystery to me, because all utilities, i.e. wget,
work fine with the proxy, but at least I was able to install the
package.

It is the update-flashplugin-nonfree utility which fails here. Maybe the
strace dump is useful for you, but it didn't help me, though.

Bug#465850: flashplugin-nonfree: does not install: download failed, get-lastminute failed

2008-02-15 Thread Andreas Kroschel
Package: flashplugin-nonfree
Version: 1:1.3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

flashplugin-nonfree doesn't neither download nor use an existing .tar.gz
package from Adobe. Instead, I get:

Setting up flashplugin-nonfree (1:1.3) ...
download failed
get-lastminute failed

Downgrading to 9.0.115.0.1~etch1 works as a workaround.

Sorry, I sent an incomplete mail by mistake. As I said, I can
reconstruct the behavior anytime, but I forgot to give some additional
information: The error only occurs when using GDM for login. If I call
startxfce4 from a VT, everything works. So maybe GDM is to blame.

it is a mystery to me, too, but I can reconstruct the behavior anytime.

For my part, yes. I switched to xfce4 completely, and don't use Gnome
anymore (and I have the feeling I was the only one demanding this
feature).

Bug#428700: libasound2-plugins: fails to load asound_module_pcm_pulse.so

2007-06-13 Thread Andreas Kroschel
Package: libasound2-plugins
Version: 1.0.14-1
Severity: important

When I use the pulseaudio plugin for output, aplay complains about a
missing file:

ALSA lib pcm.c:2105:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library
plugindir/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
aplay: main:545: audio open error: No such file or directory

But there is an existing library
/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so, as well as
/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_ctl_pulse.la and
/usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_ctl_pulse.so.

Playing a file directly to dmix, after killing the pulseaudio server,
works fine.

The patch solves the problem here. Thank you very much.

Bug#365598: gdm: after upgrade, GTK+ refuses to initialize

2006-05-01 Thread Andreas Kroschel
Package: gdm
Version: 2.14.4-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

After upgrade to 2.14.4-1, GTK+ refuses to initialize. As a result,
xfce4 and Gnome session do not start, and if I use a non-GTK+ dependent
windowmanager like Windowmaker, a lot of programs refuse to execute,
e.g. Firefox or Openoffice.

This is the excerpt from ~/.xsession-errors which I think that it is
relevant when I try to start xfce4 or Gnome:

,
| (process:24391): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or
setgid.
| This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
| program instead. For further details, see:
|
| http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html
|
| Refusing to initialize GTK+.
`

With Windowmaker, I get the following errors when starting GTK+ programs:

,
| (process:24921): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or
setgid.
| This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
| program instead. For further details, see:
|
| http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html
|
| Refusing to initialize GTK+.
|
| (gnome-settings-daemon:24946): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently
running setuid or setgid.
| This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
| program instead. For further details, see:
|
| http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html
|
| Refusing to initialize GTK+.
`

Here we have at least the name of the process that causes the error, but
the error message is wrong:
/usr/lib/control-center/gnome-settings-daemon is neither set setuid nor
setgid.

Bug#364454: mozilla-firefox-locale-all: please upload a compatible version

2006-04-24 Thread Andreas Kroschel
Removing firefox-locale-de and reinstalling the same version
(1.5.0.1lang20060327-1) fixed the problem for me on two machines. Don't
ask me why, but it is worth a try, perhaps for other language packs too.

Bug#357207: xkb-data: does not work at all after upgrade

2006-03-16 Thread Andreas Kroschel
Package: xkb-data
Version: 0.8-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After upgrade to 0.8-1, keyboard layouts in xkb-data do not work at all.
It doesn't make any difference whether they are configured in xorg.conf
or in a setxkbmap command, neither does it matter whether I set a
symlink from /usr/share/X11/xkb to /etc/X11/xkb, as described in the
README file, or if I start the X server with the option “-xkbdir
/usr/share/X11/xkb” and an equivalent XKBPATH environmant variable.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get setxkbmap to say more than “Error loading
new keyboard description”.

from working as compose key. Please change severity to minor or
close this bug.

Sorry again.

There's a typo in /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/compose, which stops to

Sorry, I can't find it in a freshly downloaded xkb-data_0.6-1_all.deb.
There are only definitions for ralt, rwin, menu and rctrl.

By the way, the sclk_toggle definition in /etc/X11/xkb-data/symbols/group is
gone too, compared to xlibs.
