Unfortunatly, compiling does not mean working.  Unless someone actually
test and make sure it works, I will not be adding more architectures.

In version 3.03-3 of xpdf, there are still many lines of

displayed on startup.  I suspect the files in /usr/share/xpdf/xpdfrc-*


While most content now displays (so I'll leave the grave bug closed)
there still seem to be missing characters so I'll go back to 3.02
again.  Please inform upstream that changing such file syntax on a
minor release is a terrible idea, and that both old and new syntax
should be supported for at least a major release cycle.

xpdf fails to display most pdf content due to missing fonts.  This can
be cured by removing /etc/xpdf/xpdfrc, however purging and
reinstalling the package does not remove this file.  As most users will
not be able to do so, this makes xpdf pretty much unusable on systems
upgrading from prior versions.

bug 640486 makes this problem more difficult to diagnose.

Unfortunatly, the reality of dealing with the amount of spam sent to
the debian bug tracking system with the human resources available
means that such measuers need to be put in places.  Rejecting with
SMTP 550 is much better than blackholing the message.  We still have
several hundred messages blackholed every day that make it past the
SMTP time filters.  Before the SMTP filters were put in place, there
were tens of thousands of such messages per day, frequently over a
gigabyte a day.  All messages to the BTS are greylisted.

Some ISPs have DNS servers that violate the RFCs and cache answers for
weeks or months.  The machine that used to be the only bugs.debian.org

case, complain to your ISP.

 possible to keep an alternative in manual state, if you change
 priority, add or remove slave links?

I don't know why I, as bug submitter, should be expected to figure out
how you should handle alternatives.  My packages don't do much with them.

Overwriting a manually selected alternative is IMHO a serious bug.  If
you can't figure out whether the alternative was manually or
automaticly selected, don't overwrite it.

That seems to fix the overrunning malloced area problem.

At least some (and possibly all) of the cases where it was not routing
were due to incomplete data and the poor way gosmore handles it.  It
should indicate that you can't get there from here rather than giving
the instructions on how to indicate here and there.  (Many of the
wrong-way on motorway problems are caused by incomplete data as well.)

bugs.debian.org isn't always willing to accept mail.  Besides the

don't think reportbug does mail queueing.

Also, some ISPs do not allow direct outgoing mail connections.

[0] Load average over 400 for a while, 25% idle time, 50% wait.  The
only unusuall thing running was many exim4 and procmail processes
starting and completing quickly.  My guess is spammers tried sending
so much spam at once that nothing got through.

When booting 2.6.17 on my ultra-10 with a creator3d (upa) graphics
card, no output is seen on the monitor past the Booting Linux...
message.  The system does boot and is usable via ssh.

There is no usable output on the onboard mach64 vga output either.  My
19 vga monitor sees no signal, even with the creator card removed

off.  It appears that the gps records the time stamps in GMT, and
linux vfat uses the local time zone for timestamps.

kernels.  It's been in RFA state for almost a year, with no takers.
(One NM contacted me, but never prepared a fixed package for
sponsorship.)

As it looks like 2.4 kernels will not ship with etch, I'm increasing
the severity of the outstanding bug and orphaning the package.  If
noone adopts the package I will request removal in a few weeks.

This is due to a bad interaction of dpkg and logrotate.  dpkg removes
the /var/log/suck directory on uninstall if it is empty, then
logrotate complains that the directory does not exist even though suck
uses the missingok option of logrotate.

While it would be possible to duplicate normal dpkg functionality in
the install and remove scripts on suck, I feel it would be better to
have logrotate handle the case of missing directories when them
missingok option is used.

Many times a bug in one package causes symptoms to appear in another
package.  Reassigning the bug to the actual buggy package causes it to
disappear from the list of open bugs for the affected package, so
frequently duplicates get submitted (and reassigned, and merged,
lather, rinse, repeat).  Leaving a bug open in the affected package
means that it is not closed automaticly when the bug is fixed.

My proposal is to have affects list of packages associated with
the bug, and when displaying lists of bugs on a package show this
package is affected by the following bugs in other packages.

This error repeatadly happens, and is the main reason sparc is no
longer considered a release architecture, but I could not find a bug
filed for it.

Running with a serial consoled logged to another system, I was able to
catch the error messages.  They arn't completely consistant, so I'm
including them all below.  (A couple of weeks worth on my sparc
pbuilder system.)

Speculation: there has been a report that heavy disk I/O causes this
problem.  Since many of the messages have truncated kernel fault
messages, I guess that the system buffers a kernel fault message, then
tries to dump core causing a fault in the fault handler.  (I think
that's what a RED state exception is.)  Adding a delay or turning off
the kernel core dump may allow the full error message to be displayed.
The doubled characters may be due to both processors printing the same
message at the same time.

(All the RED state excpetion lines below were followed by the normal
reboot messages.)

We have found that some systems are fine with later 2.6 kernels (say, in
the 2.6.15 series) and some are not.  sparc32 systems are a problem;
U1/U2 systems routinely crash under heavy disk I/O, U60 now seem fine,
SB1000 is fine, I think U5/U10 are OK, and so on.

  Same problem as before

 no esp would mean that you are still booting in the old initramfs
 where esp was not specified to be loaded.
 
 initramfs-tools adds any modules that are listed /etc/mkinitramfs/modules
 and loads them really early on reboot.

Since the system isn't bootable it's hard to check the contents of
that file.
