Bug#395147: linux-image-2.6.17-2-sparc64: [sparc64] No display on ultra10 creator3d
Package: linux-image-2.6.17-2-sparc64 Version: 2.6.17-9 Severity: important When booting 2.6.17 on my ultra-10 with a creator3d (upa) graphics card, no output is seen on the monitor past the Booting Linux... message. The system does boot and is usable via ssh. This did not happen with the default 2.4 kernel under sarge, or after upgrading to etch before installing a 2.6 kernel. There is no usable output on the onboard mach64 vga output either. retitle 316195 O: cutter -- disconnect routed IP connections severity 232058 grave thanks I'm not using this package, and it reportedly does not work with 2.6 kernels. It's been in RFA state for almost a year, with no takers. (One NM contacted me, but never prepared a fixed package for sponsorship.) As it looks like 2.4 kernels will not ship with etch, I'm increasing the severity of the outstanding bug and orphaning the package. Bug#366337: bad interaction of logrotate and dpkg
reassign 366337 logrotate thanks This is due to a bad interaction of dpkg and logrotate. dpkg removes the /var/log/suck directory on uninstall if it is empty, then logrotate complains that the directory does not exist even though suck uses the missingok option of logrotate. While it would be possible to duplicate normal dpkg functionality in the install and remove scripts on suck, I feel it would be better to have logrotate handle the case of missing directories when them missingok option is used. -- Blars Blarson [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.blars.org/blars.html With Microsoft, failure is not an option. Bug#367238: debbugs: affects for showing a bug causes problems in another package
Package: debbugs Severity: wishlist Many times a bug in one package causes symptoms to appear in another package. Reassigning the bug to the actual buggy package causes it to disappear from the list of open bugs for the affected package, so frequently duplicates get submitted (and reassigned, and merged, lather, rinse, repeat). Leaving a bug open in the affected package means that it is not closed automaticly when the bug is fixed. Bug#361214: linux-image-2.6.15-1-sparc64-smp: RED state exception crashes on sparc64 SMP
Package: linux-image-2.6.15-1-sparc64-smp Version: 2.6.15-8 Severity: important This error repeatadly happens, and is the main reason sparc is no longer considered a release architecture, but I could not find a bug filed for it. Running with a serial consoled logged to another system, I was able to catch the error messages. They arn't completely consistant, so I'm including them all below. (A couple of weeks worth on my sparc pbuilder system.) Speculation: there has been a report that heavy disk I/O causes this problem. Since many of the messages have truncated kernel fault messages, I guess that the system buffers a kernel fault message, then tries to dump core causing a fault in the fault handler. (I think that's what a RED state exception is.) Adding a delay or turning off the kernel core dump may allow the full error message to be displayed. The doubled characters may be due to both processors printing the same message at the same time. (All the RED state excpetion lines below were followed by the normal reboot messages.) sundry login: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference RED State Exception sundry:~# \|/ \ |/ @'/ .. \`@ /_| \__/ |K00//r e RED State Exception sundry login: kernel BUG at arch/sparc64/mm/fault.c:273! \|/ \|/ #4 . However, 2.6.12 no longer boots, (apparently not compatable with new udev) so system is now boat anchor. no esp would mean that you are still booting in the old initramfs where esp was not specified to be loaded. initramfs-tools adds any modules that are listed /etc/mkinitramfs/modules and loads them really early on reboot. Bug#353111: linux-image-2.6.15-1-sparc64-smp: 2.6.15 kernel can't find root disk /dev/sda1, won't boot
On Thu, Feb 16, 2006 at 07:21:00PM +0100, maximilian attems wrote: this is fixed with latest udev from unstable, please upgrade and update-initramfs -u -t the bug report is about missing sysfs support by the sparc sbus drivers, thus the appropriate drivers don't get loaded by udev and need to be specified before image creation on /etc/mkinitramfs/modules or handloaded in the emergency busybox shell on boot. I installed unstable udev, added esp, sd_mod, and sr_mod to /etc/mkinitramfs/modules, and tried to reboot. Same problem as before on 2.6.15, esp module is not present in initramfs so root can't be loaded. However, 2.6.12 no longer boots, (apparently not compatable with new udev) so system is now boat anchor. -- Blars Blarson [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.blars.org/blars.html With Microsoft, failure is not an option. Bug#353111: linux-image-2.6.15-1-sparc64-smp: 2.6.15 kernel can't find root disk /dev/sda1, won't boot
On Thu, Feb 16, 2006 at 03:18:05PM +, Stephen Gran wrote: I am having the same problem with an amd64 ide based system here. Oddly, I can just exit the busybox shell afterwards (without a modprobe or any commands at all) and the system will then boot normally. I am guessing some sort of race condition, but I haven't had time to take a look, so I've been holding off reporting. Now that I see this already open one, I thought I would add another data point. On my system, the /dev/sd* devices do not get created, and exiting just leeds to a repeat of the same error. So the amd64/686 problem (another bug got filed for 686) is timing, but the sparc one isn't. -- Blars Blarson [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.blars.org/blars.html With Microsoft, failure is not an option.
